We were walking by to go get some food farther down Mass Ave but noticed this red corner was finally opened! I've been curious what it was going to be since the renovation started, so we dipped in to have a drink and a look. The ambiance is really cool. We were there on a Sunday afternoon so there was hardly anyone there, but I'm sure on a weekend night it would be really great. The bar was beautiful - it's massive and I can't even imagine how they got it in there. The bar stools were really neat as well, almost an art piece. The drink menu had some interesting options. I ordered a glass of wine because it was Sunday at 2pm and I wasn't feeling a crazy mix at the time. My friends all ordered unique drinks. One wanted to try the signature cocktail but they were out of a key ingredient. Fail. The food menu was pretty generic, but the food we saw brought out looked pretty amazing in comparison. We didn't order anything as we were on our way to dinner, but I would be interested to try some of the dishes. The bartender was our server and he was really nice, but not very attentive. He ordered our drinks almost individually - when one of us decided on a drink he went and rang it up, then 10 min came back and asked another person. It was awkward. I'm sure they're still working out the kinks, but for a Sunday with hardly any customers, I would have expected better. Overall I would suggest trying it out on a Friday or Saturday night for a better feel.

We travel frequently, and enjoy seeking out classic craft cocktails wherever we go. These were some of the best cocktails we've had. Great selection, skilled hand. We enjoyed a sazarac - delicately and precisely balanced; and an aviation - floral, refreshing, with two organic maraschino cherries at the finish. We WILL be back.

I have not been in here to really sit down and eat dinner, but I do have a handful of visits when I have stopped in to have a beer or two later in the evening. This review is pretty much just about the bar area and later-in-the-evening service there. The location is hard to beat, and the building is cool. It has huge windows that face Mass Ave so you can see everything going on outside. The bar is a nice big wooden bar and the entire bar back and room are also ornately decorated out of wood. It's always kept a little darker in here so the ambiance is very nice. There are also a few tables in the room that can sit groups of 4 to 6 depending on how close you want to be. There is a wall that separates the bar area from the rest of the restaurant. I don't know if this is some type of requirement according to their liquor law or just a wall that can't be removed architecturally, but they would be much better served to have it gone. The area for the bar always feels really cramped and packed, even when there aren't a ton of people there. If you aren't at the bar or at a table, you are probably out of luck because there is almost no standing room anywhere. It also gets very loud in here, probably due to the small enclosed space. The service here has been a little iffy for me. When it isn't busy, I have had no problems at all. The issue is that it is often pretty full and the bartenders are both taking care of the patrons at the bar and the tables. Having to leave the bar, take orders at the tables, come back and fill the orders, and then deliver the drinks all while checking on their other tables and clearing them leads to some poor service for the people at the bar. I don't think there is an issue with the bartenders not working hard enough because they are always busy, but there have been a few times when I was here that they could have used an extra person or two working. On my last visit, the bartender who was serving us for the night was in the middle of taking care of a table when we wanted to pay and we asked a different bartender there to cash us out, to which he said he needed to get the other girl who was serving us to take care of getting us our checks. That seemed really strange and a poor way to do things at a busy bar. The beer selection is always good, and it seems like they have a special on most nights. They feature plenty of Indiana breweries and bring in some original stuff on tap. There is also a focus on good craft cocktails here and they have a nice selection of liquors, but I have yet to delve into any of those. One thing that has caught my eye the past few times I was here was a late night small plates menu that had a lot of delicious sounding options on it to satisfy a craving later in the night when the normal dinner hours have passed. The crowd here is a little odd. It seems like the kind of place that would pull in a more hipster type crowd, but it seems to always be full of bros and cougars when I am here, although it is a place that doesn't really set the normal type of atmosphere you would expect. I will continue to stop in at Liberty St. to try some new beers if I am out and it isn't too full, but if it looks crowded then this is somewhere that I will pass on.

We stopped into Liberty Street to kill some time before we met others for dinner so we only got drinks. The wait staff was super friendly and offered some tips for ordering since we'd never been there before. I went with a Moscow Mule. It passed the first test because it came in a copper mug (the ones at Blackbeard do not and I hate that). It was also very well made and I have to say might have topped 1933 Lounge in my opinion of the best Moscow Mule in Indy. The food looked interesting and I'm hoping to go back and try some of it in the near future!

Teetering between a 3 and a 4 for this one, but I'm feeling nice on this gloomy Monday! Stopped in Liberty Street on a Saturday night - almost everywhere else was full to the gills, but Liberty Street had an empty table so we took it. Overall, I thought this place was pretty good, although a bit pricey. Good selection of cocktails, although once again were a bit pricey. I opted for a Moscow Mule which was yummy and also came in a copper mug which made me happy. I also had the charcuterie plate which was damn good. That's what upped this review from a 3 to a 4. Highly recommend! You get to pick either three or five different meats and cheeses and it comes with bread and butter pickles, whole grain mustard, caramelized onions and toasted bread. We opted for gouda and cheddar cheese with pepperoni. Very, very good. If I came back, I would definitely opt for the meat and cheese plate again. I should mention that service was a bit spotty, but overall a decent place on Mass Ave. Not the best out there, but you could do worse too.

Liberty street really is a hidden gem on Mass Ave. First off, let me say that this is not your crowded, touristy frat bar on Mass Ave. if that is the type of environment you are looking for, you are best to keep walking. But If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing atmosphere with great craft cocktails and beers, then liberty street is the place to be. My fiancé and I have frequented the place more than any other bar on Mass Ave. Their food menu is always changing, but I have yet to have a bad meal. Portion sizes aren't huge, so you are likely to finish feeling satisfied but able to continue drinking a beer or two afterwards. The last time we went, I had the BLT. Nothing fancy, but executed well. My friend, who was visiting from Madison, had the veggie burger. She later told us that it was one of the best veggie burgers she has had. My fiancé had the Mac and Cheese. It was simple and amazing! I may have stole a few (or several) bites from him. I ordered a draft beer and he had a gin cocktail. They were both great. Because we were traveling to multiple places, I did not order my favorite drink on their menu, which I like to call a Boiler Maker. It's a PBR and shot of whiskey- straight up. The whiskey choice constantly changes from their HUGE selection! I have yet to try the same whiskey twice. Best part- it's $6. The atmosphere of the bar is one that I really enjoy. Exposed brick, a huge mahogany bar, and NO TV! It almost feels as if you have traveled back to the 1920s. It is always clean, and they have live acoustic music sets playing throughout the week. The place is large, which is their biggest downfall because there are generally a lot of empty seats. Please don't let that deter you- as Liberty Street really is one of a kind.

I consider my mind changed on this place! When I saw the empty seats shortly after opening, I was skeptical. I have been twice recently and tried beer, food and cocktails and have not been disappointed. They have a great beer selection, which changes periodically and I have enjoyed the two cocktails I have had there thus far! My scotch drinking friends seemed to find some interesting things to try as well. Recently, I tried their food, and it was surprisingly good!! I hope to visit again!

Maybe this place had a strike against it already for me. I mean, this is the place that opened only after they kicked Yats out so they could open a restaurant. True, they did own the building and it was their right to do with it as they please, but it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Sometimes when a new restaurant joins the scene, the hype that occurs before builds the place up much more than it should be. I've read articles about Liberty Street over the last several months, and now that they're finally open, had a chance to give them a try last night. My first clue should have been that every other spot on Mass Ave was on a waitlist for a table, and Liberty Street's dining room was almost empty. My group all ordered differently. Some ordered appetizers only, some ordered appetizers and dinner entrees, and others (like me) just ordered an entree. This seemed to confuse the servers as at least one of the appetizers didn't come out until we had already started to get our checks and the end of the meal. I ordered the B2 meatloaf, which was recommended by one of the servers standing around waiting on customers to arrive. The meatloaf had a nice flavor but the sweet potato puree underneath it was too sweet. Other people had to send their food back to have it warmed up as it came out cold. Personally, mine was okay, but there were a lot of people who felt this would probably be their first and only time at Liberty Street. There seemed to be a lot of apologies and "We've only been open a week" comments flying around. Let's hope they get past those fairly quickly, or they won't make it on Mass Ave.

I actually give this place 4.5 stars. We arrived at 10:30 on a Sunday (opening weekend). It wasn't busy and we were helped right away. Thomas, the bartender was extra friendly and chatted it up with us as we sipped our prohibition era cocktails. The vibe of this bar is classy, like a flapper girl speak easy. The music played is classical and inviting. We had a clover club and a cacao 72% cocktails. Both delicious. This bar sells true cocktails. Not a lot of sweet, flirty mixtures. Many of the drinks are heavy, bitter, strong or all of the above. I haven't tried the food yet since the kitchen closes at 9 on weekdays. The menu is small but offers a variety for both vegetarian and meat lovers. I will definitely be back. I'd love to hang at this place on a busy weekend night.

I can't speak for their food as i've never had it, but they have a pretty good selection of craft beer. They tend to have beers that aren't the typical beers many trendy bars have. The selection also rotates a lot. There's plenty of seating (though there is some controversy on how they got so much seating) but it's hard to come here and no find a place to sit. It's not a big noisy bar with loud TVs. it's quiet enough to carry on a conversation or BS with the bartender. Good place for calming after work drinks.

Checked out the new bar which was replacing an Indy icon. The space has undergone a complete transformation - I barely recognized the place. The bar is super classy without being pretentious. The mahogany bar is something to behold. The tunes are old-school blues. You could lose yourself in a bourbon here. If bourbon isn't your thing, there is plenty of craft beer local and non-local) to be found. I think this was a win-win for everyone involved. The previous tenant needed to upgrade to a bigger space, and now that they're in a sweet new location just up the road. I'll try the food next time. It's a little pricey (it's all a ala carte), but everything looked good. (This review is only for the ambiance/bar)

This weekend was the first time we've been here since Liberty Street opened, and though we haven't yet tried their food (we'll keep that fifth star for a time we can try dinner here), their drinks were quite delicious! I had the Liberty and could not have been more pleased. These cocktails are well made and quality. The ambiance and noise level were both exactly what I was looking for with a group of six - low light, the ability for all of us to have conversations, and lovely historic pictures on the walls. I look forward to spending much more time here.

  • Trena T.

We've only been here once, and only for drinks, but I have to say that our first impression was very positive! Can I just say that I love that there are no TVs here? I am a sports fan, but sometimes it's nice to be somewhere that isn't showing the latest developments of Andrew Luck's beard or Paul George's baby mama. I love that Stephanie is here now; she's fun, friendly, and engaging---and makes a great drink! I had heard that Andy moved here from Dorman, as well, but I didn't see him. Hopefully, next time, as he's a mixology magician. We had already eaten, but their food menu looked tempting, and the food that came out to the people surrounding us looked and smelled fantastic. I'm sure we'll be back for dinner

I went to this place opening week. I have not written a review until now because it was so unmemorable. What a disappointment. I waited a long time for this place to take over the old Yats space. As the time for the grand opening grew nearer, I noticed the outside was not getting a make over. When you walk in, not much as been changed from Yats on the inside either. A few lighting changes and table differences but that is it. Really? Talk about lazy. Already off to a bad start with atmosphere, the menu arrives. Many boring and uninspired options here. My girlfriend opted for a salad that was average but nothing memorable. I went with a steak option that was less than memorable. I could get a steak like this at Applebee's. We also ordered drinks and they were alright but nothing compared to say Libertine, Ball and Biscuit or any of the other mixologist places popping up. This place doesn't even have a website. What business in this day and age doesn't have a website? I had a hard time deciding between 1 and 2 stars here, but I really save the 1 star category for the places I'd rather starve than eat at. Therefore this place qualifies for 2 stars. With so many good options on Mass Ave, there is no reason to come here and I highly doubt this place will exist for much longer if it continues in this direction.

Went into Liberty Street to check out the mahogany bar, and it did not disappoint. Upon walking in I felt comfortable w/ the atmosphere. The bar was classically decorated, and the exposed brick wall gave it an old-school feel. It felt very similar to Ball & Biscuit, w/ soft music and no TVs. A good place to have conversations and a chill spot to hang out. With a huge bar back comes a huge selection of liquor. I think you can order any drink you want at Liberty Street. They also have a decent list of craft cocktails, wines, and about 10-12 draft beers. The menu is limited to appetizers, small plates, and a handful of entrees. We ordered hummus and fried green beans. They were fine as finger foods over drinks. Liberty Street opened in early March, and as of right now there is little information about its menu, drink selections, etc. You have to physically go in to find out what they have. The place shows a lot of promise, and is in a prime location. I'd recommend going in to grab a drink, and maybe in time they will figure out what direction to take w/ the food.

Awesome bar! Great selection of liquor and beer. The bartender recommended great bars in the area. So friendly! Really cool atmosphere. I really like this bar and will be back

Only giving 3 stars bc of a new chef taking over and they don't have a full menu yet. The atmosphere is nice and they had a live band starting on Friday night. There is a good selection of bottled beer with about 8 beers on draft. Will go back to try new menu.

Went for cocktails over the weekend and we were very impressed. Every drink was creative and all were a bit. The bartender and server were attentive and the bar area had a cool, old bar feel.

Made a return visit for First Friday because it was the only place on Mass Ave with tables free. Kind of tells you something. The place already looks worn out. Shaky tables, slightly run-down decor. Not promising for such a new place. The service was friendly, if distracted and erratic. But the food! The beef sliders have so much soy sauce, the saltiness makes them practically inedible. The pulled pork tostada was a disaster -- the tortilla was so tough it was impossible to even cut. Crispy? Far from it. The dish was presented nicely, but the elements didn't exactly go together, and it was far too spicy. The poppers were completely unexceptional. And the menu remains unfocused. This place is prime real estate and has no excuse to be as bad as it is. The beer and cocktail list are decent, and some of the specialty drinks are OK, but they're somewhat expensive. My first visit was not great, but I thought the place at least showed a little potential. With this visit, I doubt I'll return.

I just wasn't impressed. A few friends of mine and I decided to check out the new restaurant on Mass Ave. Sunday afternoon/ early evening and there were very few people. Maybe it's just because their new. We sat checked out the menu and decided to skip food. Nothing looked THAT good. At least not for the price. I will say though that what I saw brought out to other tables looked much better than expected. So, we settled on just doing drinks. I had a beer. They have a pretty good beer list. A friend of mine tried to get their signature drink but they were out of one of the ingredients. Overall the service was sloppy. The Bartending was slow given how few people were there. I'm sure I'll eventually go again once they work the kinks out but I'm in no rush.

Bottom line: A long way to go to catch up to places like Libertine and Bluebeard. If you like Mesh, you will probably like Liberty Street. This market segment in Indy is getting very competitive, which I really enjoy. They're aiming for a relaxed dining experience with a strong bar presence. The menu sounds very inventive and includes local ingredients which is a big plus, but nearly everything that I tasted, including the turf-on-surf was boring. My cocktail which featured gin, st. germaine, and ginger beer was also disappointing. It wasn't well balanced and inviting, it was really pretty watery. Having been to Yat's many times I was really wondering how you could do a finer-dining place in the same space and it just doesn't work. There's something creepy about watching everyone's food coming out of the basement. It's not their fault, as the entrance to the basement is the first thing that you see when you walk through the door and you've got a great view of the doorway from most of the restaurant. The last nail in the coffin was service. They must have been short staffed because the servers looked like they were running crazy like chickens with their heads cut off. They were all pleasant, but they were way too busy to be appropriately attentive.

Only been in once for drinks on a fairly slow night--good selection of drinks, lovely bar and ambiance, although a little dark. Big change from Yats. But drinks (and food options) were pretty pricey and service was kinda slow for just ordering drinks. Now that we no longer live down the street :( we probably won't be back unless we've got a lot of leisurely drinking time to kill

My friend and I entered just after 7:40 PM on 3/27/15. We sat down in the dining area, and we ordered two drinks, one each. After we received our drinks, we realized that a band was setting up and asked to move to a table in the bar area to avoid talking over the music. The waitress was very pleasant. We moved to our new table, and I tried my drink. It was awful. My friend's drink was pleasant. I had ordered the Clover Club (death's door gin, vermouth, Wilks & Wilson raspberry gomme, lemon, and frothed egg white), and I didn't know what it would taste like, but I didn't expect it to taste as it did. It tasted like I was drinking BBQ, mesquite, or even wood chips, an almost smoky flavor. I asked the waitress, and she said she would ask the bartender what gave it that flavor. I was told it shouldn't have that flavor, but that they would make me another drink. I certainly didn't want the drink I just tried, but my friend's drink was great, so I ordered it. She had the The West Coast Ammunition (sombra mezcal, fever tree ginger beer, ginger simple syrup, frothed egg white, and lime juice.) This drink arrived, and the waitress asked me to try it with a concerned look on her face. She then said she thinks it was made wrong. So I tried it, and it didn't taste anything like what my friend had shared minutes prior. This drink too had this smoky, wood chip flavor like I was gnawing on a grilled piece of meat. The waitress took it back to the bartender who was clearly very agitated and the owner then took it upon herself to make my original drink order. By this time, my friend had also tried both of my drinks and she said, "I think your drinks have mezcal in it. Mezcal is smoky." I said, "Well yours doesn't taste like that and yours had mezcal in it!" She didn't think she ordered a drink with Mezcal, but we went back to the menu and realized she had ordered a drink with Mezcal which didn't taste smoky, and I had ordered a drink without Mezcal, and both of mine (the original Clover Club and the request of one to match hers) tasted like smoky wood chips. We determined the bartender likely mixed up the drink orders making hers without Mezcal and mine with. Anyways, the waitress came back with the third drink, this time it looked like the original order of Clover Club. I tried it, and it didn't taste smoky! I was so excited! I thanked her many times, and she was pleased we were happy. My friend also tried my drink and said, "Oh yeah, much better!" This is where it gets BAD. The owner comes over and asks, "Did you enjoy your drink?" I replied very nicely with an apologetic tone, "Yes, thank you so much. It tastes much better---" and she cut me off with, "It's the same drink as before!" I was shocked. I replied with, "this drink does not taste like wood chips or smoky BBQ, and the other two did, even though they were different drinks." And my friend even vouched for that, but the owner continued to argue with us telling me that the drink I was sipping was the same as the previous two. She was so very rude and unprofessional. I will NEVER go back. As she walked away from our table, she proceeded to whisper to the bartenders that looked over at us whispering back. The waitress was pleasant. The owner was not. BAD SERVICE. Also, their food was high priced for a BLT and cheese with tomato sauce. My friend and I were not impressed and felt sorry for the employee as she did nothing wrong and was nice.

My parents took us to Liberty Street last night for dinner and drinks before a show. It started out as merely unimpressive: the seats were uncomfortable, our server wasn't knowledgeable about the food, and it took 15 minutes to get our drinks. We ordered a mix of apps, salads and entrees, and waited at least 45 minutes for our food, and each time we asked about its progress, the server said "they're plating it now." They kept putting us off, as we watched plate after plate of food being delivered to tables seated after us. So my dad left the table to find the owner and complain about our disappointment and how completely screwed our evening was, as we now only had five or ten minutes before we had to leave, and we still had no food. He returned, the food arrived, he asked for the check, and the server told us our meal was being comped. Then the server left our table and never once returned. We were thirsty, as our first round of drinks was long gone, and we had no water. We were hungry, finally feeling a sense of relief as we dug into our meals. But there was nothing remarkable about the food: rice that accompanied a bland steak tasted like Rice-a-Roni, salad was warm and limp and drowning in dressing, shrimp tacos had little flavor. Then suddenly, the owner appeared at our table. But Tammy Miller didn't approach us to apologize for our experience or empathize with our disappointment. We sat stunned as she stuck her finger in my dad's face--a full five minutes after their private conversation about our situation and with our table and the entire dining room in audience--and proceeded to berate him for complaining, telling him that if we ever returned, she would "kick [our] asses out of here." I was appalled. What started as unimpressive had turned horrific, our minds blown by her complete lack of professionalism. When we got up to leave, the server stopped my dad and told him that the owner changed her mind about comping our meal. To add insult to injury, she reneged on the only form of apology we received by deciding to charge us for her outburst and ineffective management, for an inexcusable wait, mediocre food, and an overall experience that spurs me to tell everyone I know how very much this restaurant--which replaced Yats, a beloved icon on Mass Ave.--deserves to fail. There are a hundred restaurants within 10 minutes of Liberty Street that are better in every way, so my advice is to steer clear of this disaster.

I don't really give a rat's ass about the whole thing with Yats. It's not like Yats didn't survive, plus I believe in giving everyone a fair shake. We came to Liberty Street today (July 4th) because a lot of the other places were closed. The menu selection is small, but the BLT I ordered was awesome. The emphasis was on the "B", and the "B" was perfect - crispy and slightly fragile. The aioli mayo was a nice touch. The roast beef au jus was less remarkable - the meat was underseasoned and the jus tasted like Lipton onion soup was a bit thick. I am willing to give them another shot, though!

LOVE the Mac and cheese! Also the cocktails are always on point and service is quick and pleasant! Love when I pop in and there is a band. I would highly recommend to any one looking for a nicely priced cocktail and small plate!

Comfy bar stools with a foot railing, good ambiance, nice beer list, very nice selection of booze, and innovative cocktails. Our drinks were very good, but a bit sweet. I wouldn't have been able to drink a second one, for sure. Service was just a bit on the slow side but was attentive. This bar just opened about a month ago, so they are still getting used to things. The room you enter has the beautiful wood bar with some 2-4 top tables along the wall, then a second room has more dining tables. Noise level was completely acceptable, we were able to chat with each other but weren't eavesdropping on our neighbors. Framed historic postcards decorate the exposed brick walls. We had already had dinner so I can't comment on the food. What's missing? HOOKS for purses and coats under the bar! The bar stools are STOOLS, not chairs, so there's not a even a chair back to drape anything over. You just end up heaping it at your feet, sitting on it, or holding it. Awkward. This is such a basic thing. I have been reading comments on Yelp and IBJ about how "terrible" it is that Liberty Street "kicked Yats out" on and on and on...the commenters will "never patronize" Dorman Street or Liberty Street. It's called capitalism, people. They OWN the building and were under no obligation to renew the lease. They gave Yats A LOT of advance notice AND waited until the new construction at the northeast end of Mass Ave was completed so that Yats would have someplace to go in the same neighborhood. Yats isn't exactly tiny anyway...how many of them are there now...a dozen, and even out-of-state? It's a small chain that changed locations so a "little guy" could open a new business. Also, Yats has terrible environmental practices: styrofoam cups and plates and all plastic eating utensils. Those gross things are going to be around on this planet for a hundred years or more. WHY do they use all polystyrene and plastic? Because it's cheap and Vuskovich wants to make a big profit. So knock it off. Get some perspective. Liberty/Dorman Street didn't do anything unholy and may in fact have improved the block a bit by bringing some history back and decreasing the litter!

I got a sneak peek at Liberty Street last night, which officially opens today, and it is fabulous. The bar itself is gorgeous and definitely hits the mark on the feel of taverns past. We got a sampling of some of the dishes they'll be serving as well and we're going back tonight for more. They have a meatloaf that will make your mother blush! Woo, boy. And the pesto-ish sauce/foam/heaven/happiness stuff underneath the salmon we tried was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. We thought the cocktail sauce with the shrimp could have used some more kick but we also lean toward flavors that smack you in the face. Now, on to the cocktails. Amazing. Andy (the head bartender, of Dorman Street fame) has seriously outdone himself. The Smoky Pearl is fantastic if you're in to Scotch. I personally am not huge on it but my partner is and he said it's the only Scotch cocktail he's ever had that he liked. It's definitely peaty but sooo smooth and complex all at one. I wasn't huge on the Cacao 72% but it did start growing on me as I drank it. I'm still working on liking dark chocolate myself so if you already like it, this is the drink for you. The cocao notes in this drink were wild, in a good way! It was interesting to try just to experience the different flavor profiles in it. The other one that stood out was the Cloverclub and wow, this one was my favorite. A gin drink that uses some raspberry liqueur on top. It tasted like a cloud. A little on the sweeter side than the other things we tried but not overly sweet. So good. Needless to say, I'm excited to go back tonight and try all the things! First on the list is the Gin Floozy which sounds amazing.

I'm going to go ahead and give Liberty Street the dreaded one star award based on my almost experience there this past Saturday. We were looking for someplace to eat on Mass Ave and suddenly, Liberty Street appeared before us. Let's try it, we all said. Then we tried to open a door along Mass Ave. It was locked. We tried to open another door along Mass Ave. It too was locked. We walked around the corner, saw a third door and realized that this *had* to be the correct door. It wasn't , it was locked. So is there a mysterious way to get in to this place? A couple of people dining there saw us and looked our way. I think one of the servers even made eye contact with us but didn't motion towards the way in, didn't even acknowledge us at all. I guess I'll go back during daylight and figure out how to get inside. So watch for an updated review from me for this place.

Went after dinner on Mass Ave for a nightcap. Ashley was our waitress and she was very attentive. Had a great selection of craft beers that are not found everywhere and the bourbon selection is at about 170 types. Great band and an awesome old bar. We will be back

I first visited Liberty Street a few weeks ago late in the night for a night-cap cocktail. Frankie was working and steered us right on what to order. The service was good and the cocktails were good. I left happy. My second visit was last night. We sat at the bar. We were immediately greeted and asked what we wanted to drink. We wanted a beer and could not decide, so they gave us samples. I liked that. We got our first beer and we were extremely happy and content until......they forgot about us. For the next two hours, It was as if they didn't know that we existed. I had to flag them down to ask, "What is good on the menu?". They told me, then we didn't exist again. I had to flag them down to ask for a water. I sat with an empty beer glass for maybe 30 minutes until I flagged them down to ask for another drink. I had to flag them down to finally order food. No one ever asked how we were doing or if we needed anything after our initial beer order or food order or anything. They were available at the bar and obviously busy as they claimed they had no bar back tonight, yet.....no eye contact, nothing. It was like we weren't there. Yet, two to three bartenders behind the bar the entire time. I feel bad complaining about the service, because two of the bartenders work at other local establishments and I ALWAYS get great service from them there. Something was off last night. They were washing glasses behind the bar non-stop and that seemed like more of a priority than good service to the people on the other side of the bar. On a better note, I had the OSB salad with fried oysters and loved it. It isn't a meal, but more of a really big starter. My friends last beer was really warm. We started with cold beer when we got there and suddenly, the beer went lukewarm. My dirty martini was delish though and very generous in size. Couldn't complain about that! I will be back. Just hoping for better service next time.

My first visit was stellar, crafty ambience with a smooth and chill vibe. I sat in the bar room with a gorgeous mahogany toned bar. I loved the music that played during my meal. Good music makes good food even better. I had the Citrus Salmon with asparagus & roasted red potatoes (not on the menu) I asked the Chef to surprise me. The meal was dope! The salmon was full of flavors. Sweet & tangy come to mind. The staff was also pleasant. I think this is nice little spot with great potential. It's still new but they are off to great start.

The most personable, pleasurable servers in town. Sam is my favorite waitress and the rest of the crew always make you feel at home. Amazing people, amazing atmosphere, aggressive, yet pleasant drinks.

Any Cocktail made by the expert Andy Ashley is a cocktail for me. I really enjoy the ambiance of Liberty Street, mainly the dimly lit bar. I've been there twice now and ate on the second visit. The "Gone Shrimpin'" and Hummus were fine. As they JUST opened, I'm sure they'll work out kinks like menu items and the possible necessity for a sign out front. It won't remove me from Dorman Street, but it is definitely a great experience to be served a ritzy cocktail by a familiar face.

My wife and I headed down to Mass Ave after a play last Saturday, and decided to stop into Liberty Street to try something new. The interior is classically beautiful. Its got great hard wood and nice intimate lighting. The unique shape of the building adds to the charm of the place as well. They had a strong local beer menu with about a dozen different options on draft. We ordered an appetizer of poppers which were basically cheese stuffed hush-puppies, They were served in a marinara sauce and were tasty but not super exciting. I got the meatloaf entree with a bourbon maple mashed sweet potato. The meatloaf was well seasoned and went great with potatoes. I loved the potatoes. The bourbon and maple complimented the natural sweetness of the potato so well. My wife ordered the fried shrimp. It was also very good. Nice breading without being too heavy. Their cocktail sauce was good, not as spicy as I like but my wife was a fan. This will be added as a go to spot when looking for a nice but not overpriced meal downtown

The Liquor selection here is among the finest and most expansive in Indianapolis. Heavy on Craft Distilled Spirits, which to be frank few places in this town even have. The drinks are better than any of the mixology bars everyone is so gaga about but at a much more pocket friendly price point, and with better ingredients. Andy Ashley is an Alchemy Artist. Period. End of Story. The beer selection is among the strongest on the Avenue. Liberty Street is an excellent addition to Mass Ave. Period. End of Story.

Excited to try a new place, my husband & I and another couple ventured out to Liberty Street. It looked like such a cool place from the outside... However, I had previously read a few of the reviews on Yelp and was definitely skeptical. The ambiance overall is exceptional. Such a unique spot and decorated so cool. The drink menu is extensive and well thought out. I got one of their signature drinks called The Liberty... fitting ;) It was delicious! Very refreshing. I would definitely recommend it. The great drink is where my good review stops. The menu is very vague and doesn't explain items as they are presented. For example, they have these "Jowl Bacon Poppers" that sound like they will be cheese wrapped with bacon, however they are actually puff pastries with cheese in the middle and NO BACON!! What??? I'm confused... It goes on from there. My husband ordered the Bayside BBQ. For $18.99 you would think you would get more than 3 shrimp. And his grits were cold!! Our couple friends shared the half pound shrimp which I thought was like a peel & eat shrimp type thing, but no it was fried shrimp and French fries!! Not very classy. I think they need to revamp their menu and be a little more straightforward. Our apps came out fairly quickly, however our dinner took almost an hour to come out!!! I was starting think about the reviews I had read. We spoke with our server, Brian. Although he did a pretty good job serving us, he did admit to putting our order in late. When we asked to speak with a manager, they were not in the building at the time. Are you serious?? That to me is unacceptable! Brian did end up taking my husbands meal off our bill and he also brought us 2 yummy desserts to apologize. I think this restaurant could be great. It has potential, but the menu needs revamped, the food to table speed needs work (as well as the food temp) and the service needs to be improved as well. Maybe add more servers? Also, the unisex bathroom was very dirty and didn't have a mirror.

This is becoming a new regular spot for me and my friends. It's really a great place to drink and have conversations. The ambiance is awesome, and fits the high level of craft in their drinks. I always get the Liberty. I'm a creature of habit, and it's everything I ever want in a glass. It's refreshing, crisp, and artful. We always get the poppers to share and they are delicious, but keep in mind to order a few orders of them if you have a big group. I got the salad with candied pecans last time, and man. Man. It was mind-blowing! I judge a place by the salads they serve, and you definitely won't get bagged salad with a cup of ranch here (even though that's perfect sometimes ;)). The service is always on point when I'm here, but I think people are approaching this place the wrong way. It's not really just a restaurant. I mean, the dining room was obviously not intended to be the focal point of this place. It's really a mixology bar with great/innovative food. It serves multiple purposes for the people that eat AND drink.

Let me preface this by saying a few things: 1. My party did not come to Liberty Street for a bar night out but rather with plans to sit, eat, and drink for a gathering, so maybe as just a night on the town stop or for a drink after work, these comments won't apply. 2. My group was pretty large, approx 14 people. After going here, it does seem like a bit of a smaller crowd place, so again, this may have impacted our experience (though I would argue it should not effect the service so significantly in a new place trying to establish a name for themselves...especially when the Yelp site states this is a great place for groups). 3. I did enjoy the ambience-the bar really is really beautifully crafted and the mood was nice. 4. Overall, the food I personally had was tasty and reflective of the quality ingredients listed in the menu, though I did have a few friends who said their food was a little dry. All that said, I was pretty disappointed with our experience, primarily related to service issues. We were out for a friend's birthday and incidentally also had a friend share some exciting news that we ended up wanting to additionally celebrate. When we ordered a drink for her, it got placed on her bill instead of the people who asked to get it for her, somewhat defeating the purpose of ordering a drink for someone. Additionally, our bills were all jumbled at the end with several people not even receiving one until they asked. Ordering was a nightmare. They don't have iced tea or lemonade, which is a huge problem for anyone that is trying to start the night off without alcohol immediately or doesn't drink soda/alcohol. Additionally, the menu is pretty small (likely because it is pretty good quality), which means as staff, you should know it like the back of your hand. We tried to order an appetizer, only to be told a bit later that it was not available that day, information that, in my experience, is usually shared at the time of ordering. Additionally, one of the people with me had a few questions about the menu that the waitress seemed unable to answer and even at times disinterested or irritated that she was being asked. After it took nearly an hour to get orders in for everyone, it took another 30-40m for people to get their food, a few of which were incorrect or missing parts. The menu was also seemingly a little disproportionate. While many of the items were appropriately priced, especially for what their quality is, there were also several that seemed oddly more expensive than they should have been, like a chicken skewers small plate that came with three super thin pieces of chicken that probably combined created about 1.5 chicken tenders and cost about 8$. I am always sad when new places around town don't put forward their best face since I truly love going to our unique Indy venues and supporting local businesses. Because the food was good and because perhaps much of our experience was waitress-related, I think I might try to give this place another go, but only with one other person since apparently this bar just can't handle party groups at this time. Unfortunately, in my opinion, there are just so many other stellar places in town to choose from that they will likely not stick around long if the service doesn't improve.

Great time tonight! Drinks and live music in the "triangle" room. Our server, Amber, took good care of us and the owners stopped by to say hello. Crowd was lively, all having fun. My husband had a pint from the impressive craft list. I chose from the cocktail menu, the Hemingway Daiquiri, and it was excellent. Looking forward to future visits.

I was there for opening night and it was wonderful. I thought I was walking into a set on Boardwalk Empire. I went in for drinks and the ambiance is amazing. Make sure you look up and see the cool ceiling as well. Nice old brick walls. The bar looks like it had been in place for over 100 years. The service was great a nice local craft beer selection on draft. I couldn't believe how many different kinds of whiskey/bourbon and licqour bottles I saw. Wow. It went well and no opening day glitches. I did not eat but got a good look at the menu. There is no skimping on quality here, meats from the Goose, et al. The prices are good for everyone from someone watching their budget or wanting to splurge on a nice quality meal. The principles were out and accessible.

Came on opening night and it was fantastic. Great food and drinks at a very reasonable price. We had the skewers, g2 loaf and hummus plate which were all incredible! The service was prompt and the servers, especially the stunningly beautiful Alex, we're very pleasant and knowledgeable. Liberty street is a great addition to mass ave. It would be perfect if they would just open up that patio on the roof in time for summer...

Food was good after it was warmed up. I ordered the blue cheese chips with my initial drink order and didn't actually receive them until the 3rd time I asked the server. Obviously, they comp'd them, but the service is unacceptable. My partner ordered a steak and it came out cold and he had to send it back. They have a decent selection of beers, but I won't be back again because of the quality of the food and the lack of service this place provides. My appetizer came out after the check was dropped and paid. When I spoke with the manager, she dismissed my complaint quickly with the excuse that "we've been open a week". Maybe the service and quality will get better, but I'm not coming back to find out.

Came here last night for the first time for a friend's birthday celebration and was very very disappointed. The ambiance as people have have previously mentioned is quite nice however the service is extremely lacking. The only thing I would suggest is maybe having some more lighting as they seemed to actually dim the lights MORE as it got darker to the point where I couldn't even clearly see what I was eating. I'm hoping it may just have been our waitress who did not receive the proper training or understand how to take care of larger parties (we had 13 people or so). She came by probably 3 times within 10 minutes to ask for our drink order, brought the drinks 10 minutes later and then proceeded to disappear for about 45 minutes before coming back to ask about our food order. The food then took even longer to come out. No one came by to give updates or apologies. Additionally they happened to be out of calamari that night which the waitress did not seem to know as she had to come back after trying to put in orders to tell us. Now ordinarily when visiting a restaurant I have found that the waiters/waitresses start off by asking "have you dined with us before? just to let you know, we are out of _____ and ____ tonight." The worst part was getting our bills. We all decided to get separate checks to make it easier but she still had an extraordinarily difficult time. Some of us got our bills as expected but several people did not get any bill and she had to come by and ask if she had given them a bill yet or not. When specifically asking a certain shared dish to be put on someones bill she put it on someone else's bill. The food and drinks were pretty good and I would come back as a place to hang out, but I certainly hope I do not have the same waitress. At the very least they should work harder on training their staff. As a place that is replacing Yats and as a new restaurant on Mass Ave I expected them to be more prepared, especially as they need to establish a good reputation. Side note to mention, I realized this after I read another review, there is an extremely strong fryer smell. I didn't necessarily notice while I was there, but all of my clothing smelled terrible afterwards, had to throw them into the wash immediately. I don't exactly understand why this happens as it is not like Korean BBQ where you expect to smell like the food...

We were intrigued by the write-up in the paper and decided to give it a try. As we entered, we were greeted by the bartender and he made us welcome. However, one thing that we noticed right away was the fryer smell. We had a drink and decided to move on, didn't feel like smelling like a fryer!

To see 5 star reviews for this place is a joke. My friends and I went to this place the weekend that opened. Apparently they didn't even have most of the food on the menu. I ordered the chicken skewers for 10 dollars which was literally a chunk of chicken on a skewer with nothing else. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting out for a week. I took one bite and was afraid it was going to make me sick. My friends meals were ok, but the food for cost is ridiculously expensive, and my friend thinks the waiter stole his credit card information. Do not go to this place.
