If you get there anytime after noon, dont plan on sitting there for lunch as this place gets very busy. Dogs were good and huge and tater tots were good as well. Skip the Mac and Cheese though as my kids who love Mac and Cheese wanted nothing to do with it. My only complaint is the cost. It cost my wife and 2 kids (I wasnt terribly hungry) $22 to have lunch and mind you our kids are 8 and 3 so they arent hungry teens. Other than that, good place to go for a great dog.

King David's is Indy's premiere downtown place for Hot Dogs (although in a pinch the one's from the Hot Dog karts near the City-County Building can be ok). Toppings galore and a side of tater tots make this place a favorite of mine.

Kind of a hole in the wall, nothing fancy, but great hotdogs, and patient cooks.. the menu has a lot of great options !!!

Very good tator tots. I am not sure if I am a huge fan of the hot dogs. Just a different flavor than I am used to. But very good none-the-less. Very quick and friendly service as well. A great addition to downtown!

Let me start off by saying I want to give them a 3 1/2 or four. But I feel that the hotdogs were four-star, but they should come with something. Like throwing a little bit of chips, or a pickle or something. That's not going to cost the company much because a bag of chips there was like two dollars or something. And I didn't want French fries or tots... I know with the cost of a big huge industrial bag of chips would cost, not much so it would only cost a few cents more to add that to everyone's dog. So add some value because five dollars for a hotdog is a little bit expensive, but it wouldn't seem as expensive if you just garnish it with some chips which would cost you virtually nothing. I'm still hungry after one hotdog, but my better judgment tells me not to eat another one of course so I don't so I left hungry lol.

Erratic summer hours, posted only on the door. Thanks. Huge waste of time.

Good job on the Weiss' style ham sandwich. I'd say you nailed it, KDD person, even though you were never around when the "real" Weiss' was open.

This place serves really great hot dogs!!! The only negative thing I have to say is that I hate they are not open for dinner. At least if they are no open for dinner I was not made aware. I love their tator tots and toppings are just so much fun and delicious. I went to King David's first a few years ago when it was in it's much older location on Penn I think it was. I never get back because I don't work downtown but I have a stay-cation coming up and I'm def heading over for lunch. If you work downtown it is worth a try especially if you love hot dogs. It's worth a try even if you don't. They also sell chicken tenders and other things. So the owner just messaged me and they are open on Saturdays over the summer!!!! Check it out if your in the downtown area on a Saturday afternoon too.

Just visited airport store...dog was inedible. Warmed up dog on a soggy bun...a joke.Tots were greasy

I went to King David's for the first time. This Chicago Dog and tots took me back to my childhood growing up in Merrillville, In. I signed up for the loyalty program because I will definitely be back!

Cheap, tasty, and fast! These beef dogs are a hearty improvement over the processed dogs you buy from the grocery store. My favorite is the Chicago Dog, which comes with a heaping pile of relish, onions, and mustard, and pickled toppings. You can make a meal out of just one hot dog, and a cup of tator tots seals the deal. This place is also a fast lunch option. I have never had problems finding a seat, and I always get my food within 5 minutes of walking in the door. The only downside is that KDDs wastes way too much Styrofoam per meal - instead of serving your meal in a Styrofoam box, KDDs should just use reusable baskets with paper liners. It would probably save them money AND be better for the environment.

Went to King David Dogs for lunch this week. I LOVE their hot dogs. The Tater Tots are phenomenal!!!!! There are very few places in Indianapolis where you can get a good Chicago style hot dog....this is definitely one of them.

  • Abbey B.

I absolutely love hot dogs, which puts King David's in a special place in my heart. The hot dogs are incredible! They have that thick snap to them and just enough char from the flat top. I get mine with baked beans, mustard, chopped onion, and shredded cheese on top, but the toppings list seems endless. You definitely can't go wrong with a place that serves tots as a side! (and fries too for you traditionalists) My only complaint would be their hours. I'm sure as a small business that caters to downtown lunch rushes, being open on the weekends doesn't seem too enticing. But maybe just for Sunday Colts games? Think it over King D.

Great solution to my craving for a gourmet hotdog. Chicago Dog, tots & drink came to $8.15, so a little more than I hoped to spend. Tots were PERFECT. Crispy outside, tatery inside, and warm. Hot dog fully loaded. A tad chewier than I anticipated, but still really great & plenty filling - the dogs are huge. I would definitely go back when the craving hits again. I couldn't decide between some of the options, so would like to try others! Also, very clean establishment which is important to me even having an appetite! Friendly & fast.

A great hot dog to be sure. Not a natural casing dog, but a big thick red smoky kosher with a tasty onion sauce. Messy as all get out, but worth it. Good fries too. I had the ny dog, highly recommended.

I was back in Indy for a training and had lunch at Kind David. The hot dogs are huge and delicious. I had a dog with bacon and BBQ sauce. My friend had a chili dog. Both were great. Our other two trainees got corndogs. They said they were really good but, because they are made fresh on site, they take a little while to get once you order them. We got fries as well and they were good, fresh cut and fried. If you are in need of a hot dog, give King David a try OH! And a Yelp check-in gets you free fries!

  • Andrew D.

I love a good hot dog, and King David has the best downtown, and maybe in the whole city. I love a Chicago style dog, but I wouldn't actually recommend it here. The hot dog is just too massive and it makes it really hard to eat with the copious amount of toppings. I just go with the build your own. They have tons of toppings that should please anyone. Just please do me one favor and don't ruin this fantastic hot dog by putting ketchup on it. Ketchup on a hot dog makes baby Jesus cry. This is a really high quality huge hot dog. Dig in and enjoy.

I've been sponging off other's reviews for a while now, so I may as well contribute something to Yelp again. Here goes: KDD was clean. At lunch it was busy but had enough space to easily have a lunch meeting with a coworker. They had hand sanitizer at the line, which more restaurants need. Employees were super friendly. And I like the ground ice. But my Chicago Dog was hard to bite through the casing. As other reviewers mention, if you delight in what places like Claus's German Market have to offer, expect something different here. UPDATE: After posting a two-star review based on the dog, I heard immediately from the owner, Brent, in a courteous, reasonable response completely free of the passive aggression I've gotten from other owners/managers when I've left less-than-positive reviews. Re: my dog's toughness, he let me know KDD's dogs are "skinless dogs are all beef and very lean, (and) there is a lot less moisture (ie. water and fat) in our product which can make them a bit more dense than most other products on the market." Admittedly, I'm partial to pork-based dogs in skin casings. The point for my update and increased star rating isn't necessarily about the product: It's about the owner's response. I wholeheartedly support entrepreneurs who passionately believe in their product and respond quickly and reasonably to criticism and are open to feedback. I'll be back to KDD to eat SOMETHING, even if I don't get a dog again.

Tater tots. You love 'em and they've got 'em. And they're good. You didn't come here to get the latest disposable foodgasm trend. You want a filling dog, a side, and a soda. You'll get plenty of that here. If I'm not going for fancy I expect value and this is it. Your drink comes in a collectible plastic cup with crushed ice. Plenty of seating and usually good people watching. It's a great way to turn around a lousy morning at work. Get yourself some satisfying comfort food and your day is turned around. You may feel a little sleepy around 3pm, however.

After moving to Indianapolis and taking a job at the City-County Building a few months ago, I prompty began to scope out local options for lunch. I had never heard of King David Dogs but had walked by this place a few times before I finally decided to try it out.... I wish I hadn't waited so long! My favorite is the South of the Border Dog, topped with Chili w/ Beans, Cheese, Jalapenos, and Salsa. You pretty much need a fork to eat it, but man does it hit the spot! Especially on a cold day like today. The tater tots are also a must-have... perfectly prepared and a great compliment to any King David Dog. King David Dogs rule!

  • MJ W.

Update from my last review. KDD, you get a star for the new space! It was easy in and easy out. It was standing room only in the old location. I'm very impressed with the new spot. The bad, you lose a star because the sweet potato fries were not good at all. I would have asked for a replacement if I didn't get my order to go. The tater tots I ordered for my wife were top notch, I guess I should have stuck with the tots. Again, the pretzel dog was great!

There are some places that you need to go when visiting a city for a meal. Some of them are high and fancy, a classy meal with white linen, waiters in tuxes and course after course of the greatest food you will ever eat. Then there are hot dog joints. This is a hot dog joint. And yet, it is just as great an experience as the previously mentioned spot. King David Dogs is a staple of Indianapolis and a spot not to be missed no matter what your reason for traveling through the Circle City. It's been around for decades, giving them the perfect amount of time to perfect their recipe. And perfect it they have. Every dog is different and delicious, no matter what you got. I tried both the chili cheese dog and the macaroni dog and each was amazing! Amazing! I also got a side of fries which were the perfect addition. Their menu is extensive and the options seem near limitless. It has a fast-food diner type off feel and it's semi off-putting when you walk in (since it almost feels like every other place out there.) But then you quickly realize that the other joints are just copying this one. With the pictures of King David Dogs throughout the years on the wall (filled with smiling owners eating their own product) you can see how long this place has been here and how much it means to the city of Indy. While we were there, we were also able to try the first round of King David doughnuts, a new item they are adding on the weekends. They were just as amazing as the dog. My god, is there nothing is place can't do? Do not miss this hot dog. Whether you live here or are here for the day, this is a spot to eat. Keep this place alive for decades to come.

The one negative thing you can say about King David Dogs is that they aren't open enough. I'd love to be able to stop by in the evening or on the weekends. Now, when it comes to the important stuff, otherwise known as the food, you are going to quite simply get an excellent hot dog and side of fries when you come on by. King David offers your basic hot dog, along with a variety of gourmet version to choose from. They have every type of hot dog to fit your mood. Also, make sure to get a cookie for desert. They are not to be missed!

My King David Dogs review via Corn Dog Christmas 2011. I have a confession to make. I've never had a corn dog before. I mean, a REAL corn dog. I've had the miniature appetizer frozen corn dogs. But never a bona fide, cornmeal batter dipped, deep fried, full-sized dog. So recently, with a group of good friends, I participated in the Corn Dog Christmas event and took the corn dog plunge. All I can say is that eating a King David corn dog for the first time coupled with an order of the best tots in this galaxy was a life altering experience for me. And, I won't be waiting until Corn Dog Christmas 2012 to eat another one of these dogs.

I have always wanted to try this place and so I purchased a Groupon to do so. We tried the pretzel dog (not really impressed), the Dog-a-roni and Cheese (pretty tasty), the South of the Border dog (the old man's fave) and the State Fair corn dog (my fave). We were a little disheartened that they no longer honored the free fries with a Yelp check in so we did not get fries. They have a new system that seemed pretty complicated and a bit annoying. Also they don't serve breakfast in-store anymore which is kind of a bummer because I work near by and I would have been interested in trying it. I was glad I bought the Groupon but I don't know if we will come back, really. The food was good and the service very friendly all but I am not really someone who eats too many hot dogs on the regular, at least when I am sober. And this place is only open day time during the week, the one time I tend to be sober. I do love a good corn dog, but tend to reserve that experience to places where carnies are involved. If this place was a late night spot, I think I would have a different opinion of it entirely.

  • Samantha H.

Perfect. The actual dog is the best I have ever had. As is the bun. And the tater tots are crispy on the outside. The service is very fast and precise. If you get it to-go all the packagings are very convenient. They even have small plastic containers with lids if you are a ketchup packet hater like me. Neat cups to take home and reuse. And there is always tables available when I have been there if you like to eat there.

Hell has frozen over... ... in a good way. That's right, ladies & gentlemen: a genuine, bona fide, Penn St. King David Dog...on a Saturday! I'm glad the Super Bowl out-of-towners will get to enjoy one of Indy's best... and glad the staff is still sane. Personally, I'm working my way through the menu; today was the "South of the Border" dog. Mmmm...nacho cheese.

Just when you think that the entire world is going nothing but health food crazy and there's nothing to satisfy that 8 year old inside, you find this place. When I just want something simple and delicious, I will travel the 20 minutes from my office on the NW side all the way downtown, battle for parking, just to get my fill of an awesome hot dog and tots. Why get the hot dog without the tots afterall? Also, ever since they moved to their new location, EVEN BETTER! I have had to share a table with someone just to get my fill of this guilty pleasure. If this place were open late, I would be here twice as much. Maybe more. And you know the place is awesome when the last 2 times I've been there the owner is being interviewed about something. And an added perk, for every 10 check-ins on Foursquare you get a free combo. This is like one of those guilty pleasure places people aren't afraid to talk about.

Man, oh man! If you want the best corn dog on the planet- go to King David! The staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean and did I mention the corn dog? We also ordered the fries, which were also delicious. They were fresh made, with the potato skin on them- my favorite style! My fiance and I will definitely be going back. I only wish there was a location closer to me!

I've been meaning to try this place for a long time but they close at 4pm and I don't work downtown. On one of my days off, I decided to head over. I ordered the BBQ dog and at $4.99 thought it was a bit expensive for 1 hot dog. I didn't realize it was 1/4 pound, so it was actually a pretty good price. I chose the all beef dog and it was really good. I could have used a little more onion, but the other toppings were plentiful - I guess you can really only put so much on a hot dog before it just starts falling all over the place. Overall, one of the better hot dog places I've been to and I'd definitely recommend this place.

  • Jim R.

A naptown original! King David's is more than your average hotdog place. The redhots they serve are based on an old family recipe dating back to the 1920's and original to Indianapolis. They are large dogs, big enough for a meal. King David covers all the bases, you got your coney, your Chicago Dog, New York Dog, even the State Fair (Corn) Dog. Choice of fries and tots, and take home souvenir cup to hide in your office. What's not to like? Well, the hours for one. It is unfortunate that their restrictive hours limit their customer base to downtown workers at lunch. I would love to hit the bars or a Pacers or Indians game and pound a King David Dog before or after. Also would be nice to see them offer some other classic hotdog restaurant staples like an Italian Beef or a Polish. Ah well. Besides that though, everything is gravy about this joint. Now that they have moved to their new location a block further North on Penn there are plenty of seats as well! Go get one!

The best dog in the city, possibly the state. The Chicago dog is so good I have friends from IL come over here to have it. The New York onion sauce is good on almost anything. The pretzel dog is different but just as good as everything else on the menu. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

My favorite king, you ask? Why, it's King David, of course. I have been limited to 2 dogs, Chicago or New York. I always look over the menu as if I am going to stray from my 2 favorites. Then the gentleman manning the flat top, with a gleam in his eye, says, "For you young lady?" The pressure's on now. The Mexican dog I have been flirting with for years now? The pretzel dog that has most recently hit my radar? The chili cheese which seems safe yet new and slightly naughty? The words shoot forth, "New York.....please." Damn it! Am I afraid that these cities will be notified if I stray? Will my taste buds rebel and only allow me to taste marshmallow fluff and peach Faygo? What if I'm disappointed? Then I chastise myself, "You big dummy! You should have had the Chicago dog. You know that it's the best." I always order tots, I don't think I can handle many more choices at this point. Souvenir cups to remind you of the anticipation, nervousness, and stress you experienced while pondering the menu. I love this jittery feeling, sweaty palms, and fingernail sensitivity I get when walking in to King David's.

Hot dog in a pretzel bun smothered in cheese. Doesn't get a whole lot better than that.

I spent two years in Chicago, so I feel like I'm a qualified expert on hot dogs. I just wasn't that impressed with King David Dogs. The service was fine, but I just didn't like the dog. I'd be willing to give them another shot, but I'm not rushing out to try it again either.

Stopped into King David Dogs for the First Corn Dog Christmas event. What is Corn Dog Christmas? Well, it's basically a day when we get together with friends, grab some corn dogs and tots, then head to the Tomlinson Tap Room for a beer. And where do you go in Indianapolis for a delicious corn dog? Kind David's of course!! These were definitely the best corn dogs I have ever had! Despite the name (State Fair dog) you can't compare these to the frozen or state fair variety. The higher quality hot dog definitely makes a huge difference. Plump all beef dogs, battered and fried to perfection! The tots were light and crispy and oh-so-good. I won't be waiting until Christmas to stop back in. My biggest complaint...the shop hours. If you can't make it downtown during lunch on a weekday, you are out of luck. Extended hours; 8pm? 7pm maybe, would make it much more accessible.

    (5)
  • Zach Z.

I must say, not that impressed. The dogs are certainly big, but it was a bit overcooked and the ones that were in the warmer were old and wrinkly. I come from Chicago where portillos rules and this is not even close to portillos. As mentioned they make a decent dog, but I wouldnt make a side trip for it.

  • J H.

I love these hot dogs - the dogs themselves are huge and have a great flavor (i.e., taste like real meat)! I highly recommend getting a NY style dog and a coke in one of their fun take with you plastic cups! My husband loves the tater tots and I'm a fan of the cole slaw - SO good! I even love that they do lots of food festivals around town so I don't have to go far for a KDD!

For my first review, I think it's appropriate to review an iconic hot dog eatery in downtown Indianapolis. Hands down, this is the best Chicago dog I've ever had and I've sampled some of the best. I grew up in Chicagoland (yes my dog style is biased) and now the only place I want to go is King Davids when I crave a hot dog. I've been coming here for a few years and routinely get the Chicago Dog and a side of tots. I've recently challenged myself to try everything on the menu so on this particular visit I sampled a the 'Boom Boom' dog (fried egg w/ cheddar cheese) with an addition of giardiniera. As usual, I had a side of tater tots. The Boom Boom dog was good and the tots were perfectly crispy. The dogs are grilled and 1/4 pound so be sure to come hungry. The menu offers a variety of options from a corn dog to a Reuben dog to a pretzel dog. There there is a wide variety of toppings including offerings like bacon, thousand island dressing, and mac & cheese. There truly is something for everyone! For those of you new to King David's, they've moved down the street to a larger space. The new location is spacious, although in the winter months a little on the chilly side. One last tip - be sure to check out the coupons on the website to save a Washington or two.

Part of the fun of being in a new city is finding the local food...we accidentally ran into King David which has the reputation of being the ultimate dog in Indianapolis. First, they grill them and give it to you on a soft (looks like poppy seeds) bun...with any number of toppings to the point that your stomach starts churning. I enjoy a good hot dog now and then, this one was a quarter pound so it was big enough to satisfy your appetite. There's a bit of a bite to the skin, but the dog itself is pretty flavorful so the texture seems irrelevant. My friend had a chili cheese dog - and felt it was the best he ever had, along with the tator tots. When it comes to hot dogs, mustard is good enough for me. The hot dog was filling enough I couldn't eat all the french fries - which is saying a lot...since I don't have a problem with a hamburger with french fries. If I come back to Indianapolis, I would definitely return.

  • Byron J.

Well, this place really comes out of no where to be awesome. The hot dogs are awesome, better than Nathan's. They have a TON of toppings. Who knew there were so many ways to make a freaking hot dog. I am reminded of the line in that one movie, with the dinosaurs, it was call "We're Back" where the one dinosaur says "Do you want a hot dog, or a HOT, Dog!!"... ... ... ... No? No one? Ok, kinda obscure I guess...any way, the point is, they have awesome hot dogs, the people that work there are cool and friendly. I had the Reuben Dog, (As you can imagine, it had Swiss Cheese, Kraut and Thousand Island on it). It was fabulous, who knew?

    (5)
  • Mike D.

THESE - DOGS - ARE - AWESOME! King David's dogs are by far the best in town, and could easily go toe-to-toe with such institutions as "Superdawg" in Chicago, or even Nathan's Famous! For all you Yelpers with smart phones, be sure to "check in" while there for free fries with the purchase of any signature dog and a soda. If you're visiting Indy and can't make it while in town (they're closed on weekends) there is a King David's in the airport near gate B16.

    (5)
  • Cathleen H.

Yum. A quality hot dog, any toppings you choose and tater tots, I'm sold! Plus I love the different colored cups you keep after every visit. Keep up the good work!

  • Dan C.

In a town with so much German heritage, and at least a couple worthwhile smokehouses/meateries (Claus', Smoking Goose), how is there not a better place serving up a better wurst? These over-pickled, and dyed tubesteaks served at King David are an insult to encased meats. I guess folks are impressed with mounded-on toppings, but it still can't hide the fact that the dog itself is subpar (and the texture of a gym class dodge ball - see Josh M. below :-). The Emperor, or in this case, the King, has no clothes!

  • Dav W.

They were definitely busy on Saturday for the parade... of course it helps to have thousands of people with no where to go before and during the parade. I was still able to get through the line twice. Had a bacon dog w/ the spicy mustard (my fav) and then came back for my wife and son. Food was fast, fresh, and just a tad expensive. Also I noticed they are selling their hotdog frozen in 1lb packs... might need to pick one up for grilling this summer....

  • Anders C.

I had the chili dog when I was here and I thought it was okay. Co-workers and friends had made it seemed like this place was going to be absolutely amazing or something, but I came out a bit disappointed.

    (3)
  • Torrey R.

The owner was great and their dogs were even better. No skin which I really liked. The buns were soft and the perfect addition to a well flavored dog. I'm from Chicago so am eager to try their Chicago Dog. Nice job King David!

    (4)
  • Josh M.

I don't understand why everyone has a perpetual hard on for this place. The buns are over seeded and the dogs have the texture of a rubber gym class dodge ball. Maybe it's because they're Chicago dogs. I don't know. For a place that charges 8 bucks for a dog, tots and a drink you'd think they'd have a good bar-b-que sauce. But alas they do not. 2 stars for the tots. 1 Star for pity. Sorry King David, but your dogs are mediocre.

  • R S.

The best hot dogs on the planet. That is all. Seriously, I have never had a better hot dog. Not in New York at Papaya or PDT, not in Chicago at Superdawg, not in Detroit, not even from Jamie in Vegas (you know, the guy who sets up his cart in the Carnaval Court next to Harrah's at 3am with the nuclear colored relish and the cans of Jack Daniels and cola?). This is simply as good as the hot dog gets. Well worth the drive downtown at lunch to get one. Wish they were open on weekends, but you can't have everything. Fortunately King David frequently fires up his hot dog truck which CAN be found at many of the festivals and events around town at night and on the weekends. Pair a dog with a Sun King pint and you have absolute perfection.

  • John S.

Absolutely brilliant red hots! One of my favorites when I lived in Fishers and worked on the northeast side of Indy. It was worth the 30 minute commute _every single time_ I went. Hands down my favorite was the Chicago. If you really want to know how I feel, note that I chose their sign for my avatar pic... If you want to sit, make sure you are there early for lunch. It is going to be busy every day, so just do it. Make this a stop for lunch, even if you have to go out of your way, and be prepared to enjoy it!

    (5)
  • J A.

Loved the tater tots. The hot dog itself had a kind of weird, artificial-looking red skin/coloring around it. I didn't like that too much.

    (3)
  • W V.

I don't know why they dye their hot dogs red. Dogs are good but dye artificial and not healthy. Think naughty dog of Bloomington far superior. Low service quality like all fast food joints.

It actually just moved, its about a block north of here now.

If you are into hotdogs, this is the place to go in Indy. They just have good, solid, all beef dogs with just about any topping you could want. You can get some, old school, cafeteria style, but freshly fried tater-tots or some awesome Zaps potato chips(get the spicy cajun crawtaters), which are kinda hard to find in Indiana.

  • Clinton J.

This place does a great job getting creative with their dogs. I had wondered why they limited themselves to only a lunch crowd but having showed up around 1:30pm on a Wednesday I could see that there business scheme was working as the place was packed. I stood for more than a few minutes inspecting the giant menu on the wall and trying to decide which hot dog to go with. I finally settled on the "Hula Dog" which was advertised on a dry erase board with the other current specials. The hot dogs themselves have a nice bright red casing and lie in a poppy seed bun. The "Hula Dog" had a pineapple, mustard seed relish with grilled onions and I added bacon because, well, it's bacon. The side of coleslaw was great and the keepsake plastic cup is nice to take home. The gentleman working the cash register was able to give sound advice when I was torn between 2 different Zapp's potato chip flavors. This place is fantastic and I can't wait to try again. I just wish they had more extensive hours!!

Great food and great service. What more do you need to know? Bypass the crappy water dogs on the circle and get a real dog at the King.

Man these are some great hot dogs. Huge 1/2 lb dogs on a steamed poppy seed bun. They have a variety of styles, the Chicago, New York, BBQ, pretzel dog and just a standard dog on a bun. They serve tater toes as a side as well. Their fries remind me alot of 5 guys, which is a good thing because their fries are some of the best I have had. I have had their dogs many times at Sun King and festivals, but just made it into their store for the first time today. It fills up at lunch for sure. I got the BBQ dog today which has a piece of bacon on a dog that is smothered with barbecue sauce, diced onions and shredded cheddar cheese. At first I was jealous of my co worker who got the Chicago Dog, but in the end I was very happy with my selection. I added alittle hot sauce on top which really made the dog even better. All in all King Davids is a place that I am proud to call "An Indy Original". If you have a chance you have to give it a shot.

The dogs are legit. Quarter pound beauties served on a Gonnella poppy seed bun. They are big and beefy with the slightest smokey taste to them. The recipe is a family tradition handed down for generations and is custom made for King David. Don't be put off by the deep red color, I believe it is a nod to the old term "red hots". House cut fries and crispy tots are a nice accompaniment. Even the soda fountain has that old school diner style ice. Interior is spotless and there is no shortage of staff to help you. I'll be back soon to try the newly added Italian Beef sandwich or maybe even the dog/beef combo! (if I am feeling adventurous and/or hungover.) Now go get a dog!

I once was not a big fan of hot dog. It is not a type of high quality protein. It is usually too salty to me. But, surprisingly, I had this during last weekend's art festival in IMA, was really really good. The dog was not salty, well charred, super Juicy (real meat juice but not grease), and the bun is also delicious. It would be even better if the sauerkraut could be more flavourful. I guess you can make it up by adding more relish. All in all, this place changed my impression to hot dog. definitely worth visiting every now and then.

Good God these dogs are delish! This was my first visit to the infamous hot dog emporium and the menu is a bit overwhelming...because you want ALL of it! I settled on the Three Cheese Dog with Nacho, Cheddar, and Swiss cheeses with a side of tater tots (obviously). You walk up to the main counter and let the hot dog artists know which choice of dog you want and while they doctor it up, you go to the opposite end to pay. Pretty easy. I must admit, I was just expecting a regular bun length hot dog like you see in the grocery stores. When I opened up the container, my eyes bulged out of my head at the size! These things are huge! One is definitely enough for lunch. I would suggest getting a fork for your meal as your toppings will inevitably fall out. There's plenty of seating and the staff is friendly. The prices aren't bad with dogs ranging from $3.99 to $5.99. They also have premium toppings you can add for a small additional fee. For those that don't prefer hot dogs (why did you come here?), they also have a non-dog menu featuring chicken fingers and chili. A really cool feature is that they have a boxed lunch that you can get for $8 that includes a signature hot dog with poppy seed bun, 1 bag of chips, and a cookie. I will definitely take advantage of this the next time I'm downtown. A+ King David!

Ok, we happened upon this place when I couldn't get past my craving for greasy hot dog deliciousness. The Google hunt led us to King David Dogs. I had my whole meal planned based off their menu online before I even walked in, but my plan was immediately thwarted upon arrival when my friend said ... "You've gotta get the Bad Decision Dog". So I read about this bad decision which was a hot dog with mac n cheese, onions, chili sauce, bacon, ranch and cheddar cheese. Everything I love in one bun, how could I resist? So I made the best bad decision I've ever made. Needless to say I had to eat the thing with a knife and fork, but it was worth every messy bite. I will warn everyone, though, that these are not small hot dogs... they are HUGE. I will be coming back over and over again to try just about everything on their menu, this is one of my favorites in the city for sure.

This place was pretty great if you like your corn dogs with more dog and less corn bread. I personally prefer less of the hot dog and more of the corn bread; so I wasn't particularly blown away. But their fresh cut French fries were awesome and their staff was pretty cool.

So i don't review on Yelp very often but this is important-ish. YELP BROS. King David Dogs is the realest. Today I went in on my lunch break and ordered food for my boss and I. I made it back to the shop and saw they forgot my cheese sauce. No biggie; I worked in the food industry so I know mistakes happen. A customer comes in and smells the delicious food and I sing their praises to her and she decides to go there for lunch. Maybe an hour and a half later the woman who took my order comes running in and hands me the biggest cookie I have ever seen and starts apologizing profusely because she forgot the cheese sauce. I guess my customer from earlier mentioned me when she went to KDD and that's how they knew where I worked. DUDES THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE REALEST. If you're in the mood for greasy delicious food and boss customer service then King David Dogs is the place to go! Highly recommend. You won't regret it, even after you poop.
