This place is pretty good, and priced pretty good. I haven't had the hibachi but the sushi is great. It's never been crowded any time I've been in. Service is good too.

They maybe good but we wouldn't know. We called first to ask if we needed reservations for 8 people they said no its ok and to come over. When we got there we were told 30/40 minutes but we are now at an hour and 1/2 and just told it would be another 30 minutes +. No thank you we out out of here and will not be back!

Enjoyed Izakaya for the first time on a Sunday evening around 7:30. The restaurant was not busy at all. It was dark inside, and the decor was really classy. My group chose hibachi, and we were told it was about a 10 minute wait. We waited a few minutes and were seated. The waitress took our drink orders and everything was set. The timing was pretty good. We all got dinners, which came with soup, salad and shrimp appetizers. The soup was really good. I'm not very cultured, so I don't know what it was. The salad came about 5 minutes later and was also very good. It had a ginger dressing. Seems like it has mixed reviews. Then the chef came out! It's always fun to watch the chef do all the tricks and cook your food right in front of you. It made for some excitement for everyone. I ordered a NY Strip, medium well. My friends ordered theirs medium-rare, so mine had to cook a little longer. While it cooked I had the rice, veggies and shrimp to eat. The rice was great. On par with some of the best rice joints around town. My favorite part of the meal was the shrimp. They were seasoned perfectly. The sauce was just amazing. Next time I will get one of the ___ and shrimp combos to get a full order! When my steak was done I was a little underwhelmed. I may have had it cooked too well, or it just wasn't as juicy as I was expecting. All-in-all it was tasty. The entire meal was filling and delicious. I will definitely be going back!

Izakaya was added to my list of favorite sushi restaurants in Indianapolis today. We had an order of spicy tuna, salmon and Ocean roll. I'd highly recommend the Ocean roll - lots of tasty tuna and a sauce with terrific flavor combination. Service was also good. Don't bother oredring the miso soup though - it tasted like something out of a package.

Izakaya has phenomenal sushi and hibachi dishes - my favorite is the fried rice! But it is quite pricey.

Rude host & hostess! Food was good but I felt portion was not large enough. Hard to talk with my group when there. Birthday celebration is pretty lame too.

I have been to a good number of sushi places in indy and this one I think is a secret gem and never busy either! They have this item called an avocado bomb or something like that that is a partially hollowed out avocado w a mixture of crab goodness on the inside that is too delic to describe. Just ask for it. Very reasonable prices too.

3.5- pretty much what you'd expect in a hibachi joint, though they were giving away free samples of Sake during their "grand opening" The wife and I came here last Friday. It had been a while since we rocked some hibachi, and this place is pretty close to us (plus they had a coupon, buy one get one 50% off, and yes I am Filipino) so we decided to check it out. AMBIENCE- the place is pretty new, and it sure looked that way as well. On one half of the restaurant they had hibachi grills, and the other half was for other Japanese fare. They have a pretty big bar as soon as you walk in, and it looked to be pretty well stocked with a variety of sakes and other liqours. The decor is Japanese for sure, with faux bamboo separating the two dining areas. SERVICE- hibachi places usually have things timed out pretty well, and this place was no different. Our server was attentive and friendly. Past our initial order, we didn't really engage him, but he was catering to the needs of the people around us for sure. MENU- standard hibachi fare. I didn't bother to look at the sushi menu, or appetizers as I only had one thing on my mind. They had a number of combos, and the prices were pretty standard (entrees roughly $20-30 depending on what you got). The wife and I decided to go with shrimp and scallops. Sure Indy is landlocked, but you gotta get what sounds good. FOOD- Our chef came out and did all the standard tricks. I will say his "egg tossing" was pretty spot on, but past that, nothing new. Dinner includes soup, salad, and a shrimp appetizer. Food was about average. Our scallops were slightly overcooked, which kinda sucks, and it would've been nice to get more rice (c'mon people, rice is not that expensive, other than that this place met the pre-requisites of a hibachi joint. OVERALL- good not great, although in fairness, hibachi tends to be pretty uniform across the board. I would say the price was about right, and the portions were adequate. Certainly worth checking out, but definitely not a "must do." Chuck Norris Rating- Sumo Splash

I've been here for lunch and dinner before. The sushi so fresh and the hibachi is always a good time to watch. I am never disappointed when I'm here. The food is amazing!!

after eating at the hibachi grill , I went home and feel so thirsty , because the chef put so much butter in fried rice and steak , I just can't eat too much salt and butter like that , over all the food is not great and the service was slow that night , so I give them 1 star .

Popped in here on NYE 2009 for a bite before the festivities started for dinner (sushi dinner although I can't remember what I had). I'm torn between giving a lower rating for the experience but I did enjoy the food so 3-stars it is. Just getting seated took forever,. I'm sure I had no idea what was going on but I think the same could be said for the staff. I know it was a holiday but it was beyond chaotic. There was no list or method of seating, and without a designated waiting area, the entry way soon became filled with bodies standing around awkwardly. As for food, I recommend the tuna tataki and sashimi as the pieces were relatively generous. Even though I'm trying to avoid eating certain fish species and seafood (tuna especially), it's likely I'll make a few more exceptions before my guilt will overwhelm my taste buds.

I love this place. Have been there many times and the food and service is always outstanding. It's set up like a Benihana, but that's where the comparison ends. The sauces and flavors are wonderful! When I commented on how much I liked a certain sauce, they made sure I had some to take home and cook with myself!

I met a friend here for lunch yesterday. We shared their 3 roll lunch special. All the sushi was surprisingly fresh, very tasty, and the rolls were tightly wrapped. My only complaint was that the shrimp tempura roll was still warm. In my experience, tempura-fried food is usually brought down to at least room temp before serving. It just feels wrong to eat warm sushi. But I look forward to going back and trying some of their special rolls. The inside of the restaurant is large, warm and a good mix of regular and hibachi tables.

The first review here looks pretty shady to me. A 5 star review from a user with no other reviews right after the opening of a new restaurant? Yeah, I wouldn't trust that. I just went to Izakaya for the first time tonight. Going into the restaurant, it was very nice. Wood floors, great decor. The restaurant has teppanyaki tables on one side of the restaurant, a bar on the other, and then a dining area with a sushi bar in the back. Overall, looks very nice. However, I was a bit disappointed by the sushi. I was hoping it would be great based on the appearance of the restaurant. Unfortunately, I was not that impressed with the sushi. While it was good, it wasn't great. I felt the salmon in my roll wasn't that fresh and the sushi overall had kind of bland flavors for the rolls I ordered (spicy). It was good, and I would go again if I didn't want to drive far. However, if I have the time I would much rather drive to Sakura. Not to mention, Izakaya is pricier than Sakura.

I too would give it 3.5 stars, so I'm going with 4 to offset the other reviewer who rounded down to 3 ;) We ate at the hibachi grill, and it was good although not exceptional. The chef was nice and did the usual assortment of tricks involving eggs, oil, and fire. The sushi we had for an appetizer was pretty good. The place was modern and spacious, which normally I like but I sort of missed the old, clutter, closed-in, authentic feeling of the other hibachi grills I've been to. It was a touch on the expensive side compared to the one over in Lafayette, with most of the entrees being in the mid to upper $20s.

I've only eaten Sushi for a few years but really dig this place. The lunch specials are a GREAT deal. I think it's my favorite combination of quality and price around here. Even when I'm eating the cheap rolls at Izakaya I still feel like I'm getting good quality stuff. Unless I'm looking to spend a lot of money somewhere else this is my #1 choice for sushi.

I'm not a huge fan of hibachi so I just eat on the regular restaurant side. The salmon is the best and I love their California rolls and other sushi. Yum! The service could be a bit quicker for me.

Izakaya is a great place to get Sushi in Indianapolis (although I thought it was technically in Fishers, IN). The Yummy Yum roll is to die for and the plum wine is delicious. My boyfriend took me there on our first date and I was impressed! I have not had hibachi at Izakaya, but the sushi was awesome!

I've been coming here since they first opened, and this by far is my favorite hibachi in the suburbs. I know Indy has a Benihana, but this is so much more intimate and somehow not tacky. The food is great - if you get the hibachi, you get an insane amount of food for what you pay for. I always end up taking about half home. The sushi is delicious too - if you love sushi, try it! My favorite thing to get is the shrimp dinner... comes with soup and salad, shrimp appetizer, your protein, and vegetables and rice. So. Much. Food. The place is clean and simple, with some more modern decor in the sushi/bar area. The bar is pretty big for a hibachi restaurant, in my opinion. Bartender I had made them strong too. Chefs are personable, and have a sense of humor - don't think I've ever been here where I've thought someone had an attitude. Overall, if you enjoy hibachi, Izakaya should be your place. I'll probably be back when I'm in town in the next few months!

Hibachi style food for my birthday, what could be better?? Joe was our grill master for the evening. While he was not as interactive with us as the other grill masters, he made sure all of us were taking care of and the meets were cooked to our desired temperatures. There were sushi options available even while sitting at the grill. The waitress was very attentive and made sure our glasses were never empty. What a fun way to celebrate a birthday and great for groups.

I took my family here on a Saturday night. The decor and atmosphere are typical for a Japanese hibachi place - darker, detailed, and sophisticated. The bar looks fundamentally better stocked than any Japanese place I've been to recently - an excellent sake and plum wine selection, though light on the beer menu. The steward was delightful - charming without being overbearing, he welcomed us and paid special attention to my younger boys and immediately agreed to an off-menu choice of my oldest. The chef was intricate and careful in his cooking - we thoroughly enjoyed the theater of the meal as much as the taste. I had the NY strip - medium rare. My oldest asked for calamari and shrimp - his ended up being the most special and the chef did a great job cooking these meats without letting them dry out - all while preparing the meal for 6 other guests. I think this is a gem for north Indy.

I had a wonderful first experience here! The sushi is very fresh and one thing I honestly loved about it were the size of the pieces. They weren't too big so I wasn't sitting there chewing on them for forever! LOL! Our server was very warm and welcoming. A friendly server makes all the difference in the world! Their menu is also very extensive, so they have plenty of options for you to find something to your taste. I will definitely return here.

Excellent hibachi!! Our first time here and we were very satisfied with the service, "grill side chef" and food preparation! We were able to get in on a Friday night without a reservation as they have large grille side tables. As expected the grille side chef was very entertaining and had a unique command of his knives and utensils!! The starter salad was fresh had an very tasty not spicy dressing. Good size portions for the filet mignon, shrimp and salmon. Healthy portion of vegetables that were cooked to perfection! This would be a fun place to take a group.

My friend and I shared the filet mignon and a seafood entree. It was perfect as I wanted the steak and the soup. She had the seafood and salad; she also ordered a soup. Their birthday gift was a boat of pineapple and a candle in an orange. How unique!

Visited this past Friday. Overall, a fine experience and would probably return pending visits to other hibachi/sushi restaurants in the area. I had shrimp and chicken hibachi with a spicy tuna roll and red snapper nigiri. The sushi was fine but by no means wonderful. I'd order it again though the nigiri was a bit bland. Would probably try something other than red snapper next time, which was a regular favorite of mine living on the coasts. The hibachi was good, the chicken didn't have a ton of flavor but was well cooked. Everyone at our table was raving and RAVING about how fantastic their food is. My wife was a little disappointed, she only ordered chicken hibachi but noted the cook gave me a significant amount more chicken than her even though I got chicken and shrimp. The meal took a very long time; we arrived at 8pm, were seated around 8:20pm, and didn't leave until 10pm. Further, on arrival there was a ton of noise; specifically, seemed like Izakaya was a popular birthday spot as they kept banging a big drum for minutes at a time, which after being seated we learned was part of their happy birthday song. That was very annoying. By the time we were finishing our table was the only one left in the restaurant so it had sufficiently quieted down.

Always a pleasure coming here the staff is very friendly and they cater to each customers needs. My 2 and 3 year old was not fond of the flames but they were fine on our laps until it was over (will just wait until they are older to go back with them) The bar is awesome I had 2 long islands and I was messed up which is rare for me. I recommend the sushi or and entree with their fried rice! I don't know about any other locations I will only go here we built a bond with 1 staff member in particular.

This is a frequent stop for my family, we have tried the Hibachi, Sushi (Lunch & Dinner), and standard dinner items. The Hibachi is exciting and fun like all Hibachi, if you are looking for the best deal get the vegetarian it is the largest quantity of food out of the options. The sushi lunch is a great value and is very filling. The sushi for dinner is very elegant and tasty the pictures explain it all. The standard platters are not near as good as the Hibachi or the Sushi but they are still good.

Do yourself a favor -- Skip Benihana and opt for Izakaya instead. Best spot for a hibachi meal in Indy (and surrounding areas) that we have found so far. The dining area is clean, there is adequate seating for small and/or large parties, the tables and eating space are both large, the cooks are entertaining (despite the expected schitck they all have to perform), and the food is GOOD. There is no strange smell emitted from the carpets and all of the produce is fresh. Sure, you may have to dodge flying balls of rice (or catch them in your mouth if you are so inclined), but that's just part of the experience. Everyone needs a flaming onion volcano in their lives from time to time, right? Izakaya has been our go to for birthday celebrations in our group of friends for almost 3 years now -- which means we visit here about once every-other month on the average. We all know to anticipate getting out of our seats and dancing to the beat of a large drum while singing multiple birthday songs to the lucky birth-person. Imagine "Funky Cold Medina" played by enthusiastic staff members. Good times. I may or may not have brought out "the butterfly" dance on occasion when feeling extra festive. Just sayin'. Sounds great, but why the docked star? First off -- I wish it could be a half star, but alas, it had to be one whole star. But I digress. I dock them a star after all these years because meals here can take over 2 hours from start to check -- longer for birthdays and large parties -- and because I don't think it is fair to charge me $4.50 for "extra veggies" when my pile doesn't look any bigger than my neighbor's 'regular' portion. End rant. TIPS: --They take reservations and have a large room in the back for extra large parties. --If you get the entertainment coupon books there is a coupon in it for $12 off 2 meals at Izakaya in that bad boy! :) --Go for lunch as they still have large portions and the prices are cheaper.

LOVE Izakaya. (Have only been for sushi, but I hear the hibachi area is nice, too.) With 4-5 sushi places so close to each other, you would think that there wouldn't be a clear winner, but in my opinion, it's clearly Izakaya. They have a great lunch special (2 or 3 rolls with soup or salad), with several different options including simpler rolls. I believe you also get a better filling-to-rice ratio than the other Fishers sushi spots, so it's definitely worth the money when you end up there once a week like me. Can be a little dark inside when you go for lunch, but who cares? Sushi! Standard lunch order: Salad, + 3 Rolls: Minikaya or Spicy California, Crabby Crab, and Spicy Tuna/Avocado.

  • Catherine K.

Had hibachi for lunch with coworkers for our team holiday luncheon. They do let you order off the dinner menu for lunch, which we did, but it's an insane amount of food. Soup AND salad, veggies, fried rice and then whatever protein you choose. I selected the filet mignon (medium rare, as requested) and scallops. I was concerned that everything would be too salty or greasy based on the amount of soy sauce and oil the chef used, but it was all pretty good. One note ... if you are going for hibachi with a group, you all must be there to order at once (which makes sense for this style of cooking). I was a few minutes behind my coworkers and they were anxiously awaiting my arrival!

Really good sushi! I had the tuna, salmon, and crab sashimi, plus a spider roll and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was fantastic but the crab sashimi really stood out. Also had the best edamame I have ever had here! Great service and a nice quiet place for dinner.

I've celebrated several birthdays with coworkers at Izakaya. The atmosphere is pleasant and appealing. There is a sushi bar, table seating and hibachis on the opposite side. If you're entertaining guests or have a special occasion, I'd certainly choose a hibachi setting (you can still order sushi). Our cook made it fun for the birthday girl with his humor throughout our meal. Be sure to mention an occasion and they'll bring a beautiful pineapple boat and sing to you. Coupons are readily available if you do a Google search.

So unassuming in a strip mall, yet such a great find. Our waiter was very cheerful, service was fast, and the sushi had fantastic flavor. The spicy tuna was the spiciest I've tried, and the generous helping of avocado in the avocado rolls tasted amazingly fresh. They offered three special rolls in addition to the menu, so there is plenty of variety. This place is dangerously close to my house...I'm not complaining.

Terrible experience. Walked in and told the hostess hat there were going to be five of us. There were three empty hibachi l tables, and nobody else waiting. She looked at me and asked if everyone is here, I replied no, they're right behind me, but I'd like to sit down and get our drinks ordered and get some sushi on the way. She replied, please go sit down in waiting area and wait for your party to get here. I repeated myself only for her to tel me to at down and wit again. Very rude, there were no people waiting, but god forbid I be allowed to sit at our table. will not be going back.

I decided to check this place out my first evening onsite in Fishers for work. There are several local restaurants in this area, but for sushi, I have to follow the advice of my yelpers, and I'm glad I did. SETTING// While pretty unassuming on the outside, the interior is contemporary and spacious. I visited after six for dinner and was greeted by the host. "sushi or hibachi?" FOOD// I ordered one of the rolls and it was pretty tasty. Everything was fresh and the saki was nice and hot :) Dessert was fried ice cream, and it was enough to share with a second person. I ate it all :) Overall, I'd recommend this spot to anyone looking for sushi in the area.

Love this place. Have been here tons of times for both lunch and dinner and always have a good experience. This is easily my favorite hibachi place in town and the gyoza is excellent. I haven't been to many other places yet, to use for comparison, but think that the sushi here is always great.

I love this sushi place. I try coming here a few times a month. I've never gone for hibachi but the sushi is awesome. The staff is amazing and very helpful. The sushi tastes very fresh and doesn't take too long to come to the table. I have never waited for a table, I have always been seated promptly. I would recommend their Alaskan roll and their miso soup. Best miso soup I've had! I recommend this place to anyone.

Had a nice experience here at this place. Went for a birthday celebration and got so into the atmosphere and good good I forgot a birthday card in it with a gift. I called the manager and told him I was on my way back up there about 2 hours after I left. He said he would look for it. Sure enough when I got there they had the card waiting for me. Was very pleased with their customer service. Will go back.

Well, where to start... Zero stars would be more appropriate, to be honest. I can't review an actual dining experience because I was never served. One evening after work I decided to pop into Izakaya to try the sushi place I had heard about and driven past so many times. I planned to get some sushi to go, so I checked their business hours- okay, they closed in 45 minutes, no problem. Ten minutes later, I'm walking in. I never go to a restaurant any later than half an hour before they close as I have quite a bit of experience in the industry. However, 35 minutes before closing for a takeout order? I felt justified. I arrived and stood at the host stand for well over ten minutes. I had noticed a younger man at a table five feet in front of me past the host stand but thought nothing of it; he had his head down buried in his smart phone with a plate of sushi in front of him. However, after standing there for so long I began leaning around and looking for someone. The younger man noticed and jumped to attention, "Oh... Uh... Do you need something..?" I told him that yes, I was looking to place an order for sushi carry-out. He sputtered that they were closing in twenty minutes. I informed him that I had been standing in front for over ten minutes and he hadn't even noticed me to assist me and that when I arrived the sushi bar had plenty of time to prepare an order and clean up. He just stared at me and said that he didn't know what to say. I left. Absolutely livid. I realize that many sushi and hibachi places are going to have a bit of a language barrier in terms of service. I have no problem with this and I expect it to a degree. However, this utter lack of customer service is due entirely to negligence and apathy. Yeah, shit happens, but not knowing you have a customer is utter business failure. Would I go back and give them another shot? Doubt it.

This place is great!!! My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate our anniversary because we had a discover indy coupon. I didn't realize how large and popular this place is. They have a lot of tables to do the cooking on. The men cooking are funny and fantastic. Very entertaining. You receive very large portions. The service is great. They give you three special sauces to choose from when you received your stir-fry. Also, this is a really popular birthday place because they have large drums they use to celebrate your birthday and sing to you. So fun!

Decent food experience was ruined by terrible service. Waitstaff was not knowledgeable about the menu, attentive or accommodating. The man filling our water actually left midstream when he got a call on his smartphone, while the waitress forgot to put in an order, lied about it being almost ready, and then had to come out and tell is that the ingredients weren't even available to begin the dish. Overall, I'd say the food was 3.5 stars, but for slow, rude service, I'd rather take my business elsewhere.

Very generous portions of nigiri. The rolls were favorable, too. Service was very attentive. My only issue was that the beer was not quite as cold as I would have liked. However, I will return when I'm back in the area.

Great hibachi restaurant with an excellent sushi menu! As an appetizer, we ordered smoked salmon nigiri and the crazy roll with four different kinds of fish. The pieces of nigiri were huge and very fresh. I was very impressed with how generous they were with their fish portions for the price. The crazy roll was great too and served in a nice presentation. We were very impressed with their extensive selections on the hibachi menu. You can get the regular teriyaki chicken or steak in addition to many other cuts of steak, lobster, scallops, shrimp, etc. Their prices are very reasonable, even for their Izakaya special which includes steak, shrimp and lobster. The atmosphere is great and the hibachi chefs are friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant and will go back soon. Here's a tip: they have many coupons available from their website in addition to other Indy savings websites.

Went here with a large group and the experience was great. Service was good and food prep quick considering there were 12 of us and one sushi chef who had a full restaurant besides. They offer a very diverse lunch menu, even on the weekends. For under $15 I was able to have a soup and salad plus my choice of three rolls. This has easily become my go-to sushi stop and I look forward to trying the hibachi entrees as well.

Excellent!! Will definitely be back! The menu is great. Much to select from as far as sushi goes! Service was also outstanding

First time dining here last night and it was just okay. I wasn't missing much. I tried a couple of sushi rolls so I can't comment on the hibachi. The rolls weren't anything special and just average, not bad but not good either. Service was prompt and good. Also, I came at 9 and toward the middle/end of the meal pretty much the entire staff were out on the floor wiping up the tables and cleaning. Felt sort of awkward since I was still eating and felt like one of those annoying diners who the entire staff wishes would just hurry up and leave. Would I come back? Not for sushi, but maybe to give the hibachi a try.

This is some of the best Sushi I've had, anywhere. We've started making a list of those we've tried. I highly recommend the spicy trio roll, the Claire roll, and the Alaskan Roll.

Having just moved back to Indy from Japan and missing our fav foods, we gave Izakaya a try. Everything was quite tasty and our servers were funny and attentive. We tried the tonkatsu, yakisoba, gyoza and a spicy trio roll. Typically I'm not a fan of the sushi rolls, preferring nigiri, but the spicy trio roll and plum-tini will warrant a return visit, both were delicious!

I feel a little bad giving them 2 stars because the service was so nice. Review is based on service at the bar only, not hibachi service. The nigiri was poorly formed, contained an excess of wasabi and at least a couple of the items had what I would call a "not so fresh" taste. The cost on the various sushi wasn't bad, but they were out of uni and toro. The yakitori had nice grill flavour, though I think the tareyaki sauce was overly sweet. Miso soup was average. Reasonable prices on cold sake. I'll go back and try more cooked foods, but the sushi was highly disappointing. I will say when I first saw this I had this small hope of it actually being something I would call an Izakaya, instead it's a Japanese steakhouse... that was a little disappointing, but mostly expected.

Be aware that they put teriyaki sauce or other similar thick mixtures on their hibachi dishes. I loved the sauces that came out in individual dishes but for me- I don't care for the teriyaki sauces and was hoping since I didn't order it teriyaki style...it would not come that way. Otherwise 4 stars.

Absolutely our favorite Japanese cuisine! I love sushi and my wife hates it... this makes it tough for me to ever get her to go somewhere I can get it. Luckily for me, she loves the Filet mignon hibachi meal! Eat here!!!

Sushi here tonight. The ViP roll has a novel preparation which gives it a unique smoky taste. I imagine any one of the 'on fire' rolls will give the same flavor - definitely worth a try. We shared 3 other rolls and all were solid. I'll probably ask to have the spicy rolls to be a little hotter next time. Had the hibachi several times and its always yummy. The show includes the usual flames, knife trickeration and flying rice. I always get the calimari steak: a nice slab of squid prepared teriyaki. Service is quality & friendly/goofy.

Love Izakaya! Such great food! Nice people work there! They are perfect. It's a must try! :)

Fantastic choice for hibachi on the Northside! I can't get enough of their fried rice...way better than Benihana. I'm not a sushi eater, but everyone that orders sushi seems to love it. I will stick to the Filet and Chicken combo. Their teriyaki sauce is sweet and thicker than most...and goes great with the chicken. I've been here dozens of times and I've never had a bad meal.

I can't believe I didn't have a review prior to this. I love the hibachi grill! The sushi has always been fresh & the goyza rocks.

I'm always in the mood for some hibachi. This place was actually pretty decent and I liked it more than other hibachi places I've been to. They were very nice about bringing a baby, and my one-year-old niece loved watching the big fire in front of her. I ordered steak and scallops, and both were cooked well, decently flavored. It was a nice meal overall.

Atmosphere was great. Service was on the slow side. Food is no where worth the price. Sushi rolls that cost 13 dollars or more should at least be some what filling. Also the "snow crab" is just imitation crab meat. A extremely thin lining of rice over seaweed with an extremely small ingredients inside. I won't be back.

I would like to give them a 3.5. My hubby and I met up with friends last weekend and we really enjoyed the overall atmosphere of this restaurant. I loved that we could make a reservation for the hibachi portion of the meal for the time that suited us, not the time that was "scheduled" with the restaurant. We had drinks and sushi to kick off our evening while we waited and I loved the sushi. It was delish! I am looking forward to going back for lunch specials. I also REALLY love $4 house wine on a Friday night! Very affordable! As for the hibachi, this is where they lose a star. It was bland and the shrimp was overcooked and chewy. While the hibachi chef was fun to watch, it doesn't make up for food not being cooked properly. It was under-seasoned and overall a very boring meal. I also just don't love the sharing a table dining experience, or sitting side by side along the long side of a table. It doesn't allow for decent conversation. Overall, I really liked this restaurant and will be back for the sushi but I have no interest in the hibachi.

Wasn't that impressed. It's a bit on the pricey side and the sushi isn't the greatest. Sake was luke warm and requested to have it re-heated. Not a problem, just awkward...

Worst value I've ever experienced. Paid $10 for the Indy 500 sushi roll and the size (8 small pieces) and quality were in line with grocery store sushi. My buddy's meal was equally disappointing. Why the high reviews yelpers?!

Always has excellent sushi!! The servers are always very polite. Great, quite and clean atmosphere also. I'd recommended this place to everyone!

We LOVE Izakaya. We've been here many times, but especially love our tradition of going on Christmas Day. They have EXCELLENT scallops, great chicken, and great filet. My kids always have a great time. It's very clean, nice atmosphere, great workers. I went to other hibachi grills and they just don't hold a candle to Izakaya.

Rudy is a great chef!! Good food, good atmosphere. Nice that our chef for Japanese style cooking was actually Japanese. Our chef was funny and cooked our food perfectly. The fried rice was not quite as good as Benihana's, but it also didn't have the giant glob of butter, so it probably had a million less calories. I had the filet and chicken. The filet was cooked perfectly medium rare, as ordered. It was crisp and browned on the outside, and oh-so-tender inside. The chicken left much to be desired. Tasteless, chewy. I won't get the chicken again. Hubby had the ribeye. It had a great flavor, but it was extremely fatty. Better him than me; I couldn't have eaten it. The onion soup starter was good, more flavorful than other teppenyaki places. The salad had a creamy ginger dressing, which was ok but weird. I would have preferred the more standard citrus ginger most places have. We had a sushi roll to start, and it was very good. I've been another time and just had sushi. I don't remember what I ordered, but I remember it was good. I will go again, but I will stick to the sushi rolls or do teppenyaki style filet.

Really solid teppenyaki restaurant. A big bonus is it's not a chain and feels really authentic (real Japanese chefs!). Reasonably priced as well and not busy at all on a weekday night. Steak was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of "attitude" thrown in by our chef, Rudy. Sushi appetizer was solid as well. I will definitely be returning to Izakaya in the near future, perhaps to try more of the sushi.

I go here all the time (I would say once every one-two weeks) and while the food has been outstanding, the service is always lacking. I usually never get my water refilled, my table is often ignored for a long time, the host to seat tables disappears for nearly 15-20 minutes at a time, and a majority of the servers forget extras (like a side of spicy mayo, appetizer orders to come out before the entree/sushi, or extra lemons for water). I think some of them like to play like they don't understand what you're saying because they are all from Japan, but I don't buy the game. I have had a server nearly fight with me on what I wanted to pick for lunch (even though what I wanted would have been more expensive) and in the end I just went with something else I wasn't too excited about. If you want to eat some of the best sushi on the Northside or experience a fun Hibachi grill, this is the place to go. If you want to be treated with actual customer service, go somewhere else.

This place has pretty decent sushi - I would give it 3.5 stars. I've been there twice now, and I really enjoy the atmosphere: dark lighting and modern decor with an Asian feel. It wasn't busy either time I went on weeknights, probably because it is kind of hidden and out of the way on 96th street not far from I-69. The last time I went, I tried the sunrise roll (which is unique because it is wrapped in cucumber), the caterpillar roll (generally one of my favorites, I would call theirs average), and the lobster roll. My favorite was the lobster roll - yum! The tempura green tea ice cream is tasty as well (how can you go wrong with fried ice cream?), but not outstanding. The main annoying thing is that for birthdays, they make a lot of noise by pounding a gong and loud drum repeatedly. It was exciting for the birthday person, but not so fun for the people trying to have a conversation anywhere in the restaurant. I prefer the silly birthday songs, which can be ignored. However, overall it was quite pleasant and I would go back.

I went here for the first time yesterday. It was outstanding really. I'm a little freaked out at all the 3 star reviews. I could go with this on an absolute scale (5 being the best sushi place anywhere and 3 being Izakaya). But, I'm using a relative scale - meaning what is available in Indy. If there is someplace better within a 150 miles, please PM me. Notes: The Hamachi sashimi - large portion and very fresh. The spider role with spicy tuna was spectacular. Service was good as well and the place was really clean. Tuna sashimi was good, but it was a little cooked - which threw me off a bit - but it was still good. I hope Izakaya makes it, otherwise I'm back to square one on sushi in Indy - And yeah - I've tried a lot in this town.

As a student coming from Taiwan and Southern California, I knew that I would have to lower my standards when eating Japanese food. However, the quality of the fish was poor and while the sushi tasted decent, it lacked aesthetic appeal. I thought that this restaurant was part of the Izakaya chain in Beverley Hills. Even though they're similar in price, the difference in quality is night and day.

I super duper like this place. They have a great variety of sushi at a reasonable price. I got 3 rolls for $12 at lunch time. Can't tell you which one was my favorite - they were all so delicious. One thing that I was not prepared for was the amount of time it took. I have an hour lunch break and went a bit over while waiting for my food. Worth the wait - just be prepared.

Probably one of the best Japanese Steakhouses in the city. I went with the rib eye and was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. The kids love the entertainment and the kid's portions actually make sense from a size and price perspective.

My family had lunch at Izakaya and found the staff to provide excellent service and the chef to be entertaining. We will definitely return.
