Stopped in for breakfast after asking a local for a good breakfast recommendation. It was a busy Sunday morning and we managed to get seated right away which always makes me happy, especially if I am in need of coffee. Service was great, prices were reasonable, food was hot and fresh. This place is known for their extensive menu of pancake options! Although I am not a pancake person there were many that sounded delicious. Great variety of skillets and the portion sizes were good. I loved the atmosphere and energy of this place. An eldery gentleman was celebrating his birthday and the waitress got the ENTIRE restaurant to sing to him which was awesome!

The service for sure was all around five stars. However the food was something else. Went in for early lunch/late breakfast, I had a buffalo chicken sandwich with chicken soup as my side upgraded for fries instead of chips for $1.25 more. When I got my soup Iooked as good as it taste. Yum!!! The Sandwich was too dry, not spicy and side of ranch was warm. Came with lettuce tomato and pickle. I would not order this again. Hubby had the farmers omelet with toast and hashbrowns. Very bland. Sausage was cold and omelet was not as big as I was expecting so next time would skip too.kiddo had stack of pancakes came with 2 strips of bacon. They were incredible. So fluffy and just the right size if I do come back to this place I will be here just for the pancakes... Great great pancakes. Did I mention GREAT PANCAKES!!!

Very, Very Good....we found this place because of a motel front desk employee. Good food, clean, friendly people....great for the traveler. But, it's easy to miss as we about drove by it. GR...

2 strikes and we were out of there in on our first try. After being seated, we discovered 3 of our 4 coffee cups were dirty. We then waited for about 10 minutes for anyone to come and even offer water to no avail. We decided to leave and go to the pancake place across the street.

Was in Indianapolis for the weekend, wanted some breakfast and decided to give this place a try. Great food but the service was okay. Very busy so I can't blame them, my order was incorrect but the server immediately apologized and made sure I was not charged anymore than I should have been. Even though it wasn't what I ordered, I was still very impressed with the food. I got a country fried steak breakfast meal with hashbrowns and over easy eggs. The CFS was excellent, one of the best I have had in a long time. If you are in the northern Indianapolis area and are looking for a place to grab a quick breakfast, I recommend giving this place a try.

Be aware, this place is very busy when it's open. There is a reason for that. The food is heavenly. The waiters are sweet, the owners walk around to check on you and know many of the regulars. The crepes are amazing but the pancakes are made from fluffy bits of heaven, happy tears of joy from angels and are like fluffy pillows for your soul. I am almost scared to live across the street from there because the calories may waft over.

Big fan of Hotcakes. If I could give 5 stars just for the pancakes, I would absolutely do so. I've traveled and brunched at a lot of places, near and far, and these pancakes are holding the #1 spot! They are so fluffy and perfect, and offer any combination of ingredients your heart desires. Everything else is typical to a busy Saturday/Sunday breakfast & brunch spot. I've had a lof of things on the menu, and would say they're all "good," the hotcakes are EXCELLENT (I mean, it's in their name, so clearly they have to be delicious!). Definitely try it out, if you haven't already, and be prepared to wait 10 or 15 minutes on a weekend morning/afternoon. Very good service as well.

The service here was actually pretty good. I was the first person here at 7:15, and their doors were still locked. They open at 7. I waited for them to unstack the patio chairs. The patio is on the west, so, you don't have to deal with hot, morning sun. A waitress immediately served me coffee and water. The coffee wasn't great, but they accommodated my request for 2% milk, instead of those little creamer packages. The hostess even brought out water for my cocker spaniel. I shared my sausage and country fried steak with my dog, too. The sausage wasn't great, but the country fried steak was decent. The hash browns were nice. As expected, the waffle and chocolate chip pancakes were good.

Very enjoyable experience - so much better than a chain! Pancakes are fluffy and tall - they were perfectly cooked. Toppings could have been more generous. I'd like the option of real maple syrup and would be happy to pay extra for it. Side orders are enormous! Grits were perfect - I asked for no butter so they were creamy and completely non-greasy. Hash browns were good but they are frozen instead of freshly made. Grilled pork chops were good, over-easy eggs were perfectly cooked. Orange juice seemed fresh-squeezed, but we didn't verify that. Good coffee, promptly refilled. Friendly wait staff - they made us feel very welcome and not at all rushed. We'll be back!

Great place to get a cheap breakfast or lunch. Wife and myself enjoyed a chile cheese omelet which was very tasty and my daughter had a wonderful cheeseburger. The setting is definitely a diner feel and the service was wonderful. Only problem was the bathroom needed some attention.

It is not a place I will return. Floors were very dirty, try using a mop. I thought my silverware was dirty, but upon closer inspection it was just terribly worn. The food was OK for the price, but the location is very congested.

A few months ago, I declared another pancake house in Indy "has the best pancakes. Period." To be fair, I felt I should give another restaurant the shot at the title, in this case the Hotcakes Emporium. My experience there was disappointing. The good news: you get a lot of food which translates to lots of things to sample. I ordered the American cheese omelet which came with my choice of hash browns or grits and toast or pancakes--I selected grits and pancakes and added green peppers to the omelet. My husband ordered the American cheese omelet with mushrooms, grits, and a biscuit. Before I go on to the disappointing review, let me share that the service was excellent. The pancakes were chewy and plain and almost tasted as if they had been prepared earlier in the day and reheated. The omelets were not fluffy, just dull and flavorless. The biscuit was dry. The grits were the best part of the meal, and although they probably came from a package, they were pretty good with the right amount of butter. We will probably go again to try other options on their menu and give them another shot because in the end, we want to support local businesses. If the next experience is anything like the first, though, it will be our last.

I went to Hotcakes Emporium this morning. The food was good. I ordered a Country Fried Steak skillet with Oreo Pancakes. The portions were pretty big, though, so I ended up taking a package home for my pancakes. The server was very nice. A flaw though...You can't replace the eggs on the skillet with Egg Beaters, which is a bummer. Other than that, you should try it out at least once. EDIT: I can ask for hot sauce. I have asked for hot sauce since then.

Came here after a doctor's appointment. The server was friendly, but I'll never come back. Here's why: 1.Cole slaw was somehow sour yet bland 2. Potato soup tasted like chicken ramen 3. Upon arriving, saw that painted on the windows was a life sized kneeling soldier w/ God bless the troops emblazoned over top of it. This is on all sides of the restaurant. 4. Upon opening the menu, noticed that there were several punctuation errors, but most notably that French fries & French toast were called Freedom fries & Freedom toast. Really? Is this 2003? Are we dining in Glenn Beck's pancake house? I almost left when I saw this nonsense, but was really hungry, so stayed...unfortunately. 5. Neighbouring table had a broken, jagged glass lamp right above the diners' heads. 6. Crepes about 3 times too thick, very sweet, rubbery, & greyish in colour 7. Burger tasted like a school burger- aka the perfectly round, part soy frozen patties 8. Swiss cheese was pasteurized-process slices 9. Hashbrowns tasteless, watery, & obviously from a bag 10.Mushrooms were canned 11. Had to remove the seal from the ketchup bottle on my table. 12. The hostess was chewing gum...with her mouth open. Bottom line- You couldn't pay me to eat there. The bill was $35 for 3 people & the portions were large, which explains why there were so many old people eating there. I wish I wouldn't have wasted my time here.

Really now...how can you ef up pancakes? Especially when your name implies that's your specialty? I'd give it a zero but waitress was nice and it's family owned. Hope the crowds keep coming cause I wont.

Solidly average new pancake place at 86th and Ditch on the north side of Indianapolis. Our party had the grilled chicken sandwich (average, slightly dry, nothing special) and the peach crepes with cottage cheese (OK, but the peaches were clearly canned -- not fresh -- and overall there are much better crepes to be had). Admittedly, it was later in the day, so we didn't have the pancakes, which are the signature dish. I'd recommend going for breakfast/brunch and giving their specialty hotcakes a try. Straying from their namesake specialty led us to very much average food. Service friendly.
