Super great! Kick-back place to get a $5 growler fill on Saturday. Cool patio outside AND very dog friendly. Bartenders are nice and easy going. The locals are nice. This is one of my favorite places in Indy...because it doesn't feel like Indy. I will note its not my favorite beer, but the location and overall environment make it one of my favorite local breweries. No food available...which is typical for a brewery, but would really love a hook-up with even a sandwich or pizza place which would deliver...used to have a pizza place they recommended, but not sure the connection exists anymore.

When I have my beer-loving friends come to Indy, I want to take them on an inexpensive brewery tour. Cue in Fountain Square's Tap Room. Our $5 intimate afternoon tour began with a free beer. We then headed into the Brewing Room for the proper tour, which was given by the Assistant Brewmaster (I hope that was the correct title). Most tours I've been on are given by one of the bartenders, so I was impressed that we got to talk to someone who's "in the trenches" everyday. Having an intimate tour allowed for a lot of questions and in turn a lot of new knowledge about the industry. When the tour wrapped up, we received a Fountain Square Brewing pint glass and hung out for an extra hour drinking a flight. This is something I will definitely do again with out-of-town guests. SIDENOTE: Recently I was looking to buy a growler of a stout or porter in hopes I could get it from one of the newer breweries in downtown Indy that I haven't tried yet. Everyone I looked at had nothing darker than a red! I knew who I could depend on though. THANK YOU, Fountain Square, for saving the day!

Yes. Fountain Square Brewing is a great place with great beer. They are open on Sunday and sell growlers of house brews for five bucks. It's a cool atmosphere inside with some arcade and board games. The staff is always very nice to me and their Amber is delicious. It's a good place and you should check it out.

Awesome place to chill for a beer with friends after work! The beer is fantastic and they have many options for hop heads and those of us who like to keep our faces in tact when we drink a beer. It's a huge space with a few tables and a few couches. The Dunkel is bright, smooth, and complex with just a little bit of hop flavor. The Porter was surprisingly smooth and didn't have a finish like you had just taken a big mouthful of dirt. It's a little hard to find and you have to walk around to the front of the building to get in the door, but it's worth the scavenger hunt. Highly recommended!

Great brewery with a easy to get to location. I think the noise level in the pub area is a bit high. But, the beer is great and the workers are nice. I enjoy that the offer a flight of 6 beers for $5. And they have a self-serve water station. I would like to come here when it is not packed and hang out drinking beer with friends. If that happens I will update the review and let you know how it goes. I like it!

So I went there for packet pickup for the Shamrock run...and of course had to stop and have a drink...my friend and I shared the flight and a pint of something blonde. The something blonde..was not very good...but the darker beers were amazing. This is from someone that hates anything dark...I'm more of a fruity light beer type of gal. The location is kind of tucked away from the street...its nice in the summer though to bring your dog and friends and sit down for a pint as the floors are cement and easily washed. This was really a nice addition to fountain square...

Cheap, great beer, great setup, and a great location....what more could you ask for??? FOOD! If this place served bar food, I would come much more often (maybe they do, though, and I just came too late). The beer is excellent and cheap. I had a flight, and I am normally accustomed to a "dud" i.e., a shitty beer that no one orders that they for some reason serve.....no such dud; each beer on the flight was superb. This is very rare in my book (and I have been to a fair few breweries in my day). The only reason I settled on the red/amber for my growler was because it's my girlfriend's favorite. I would have settled for any. I think my flight was $5 and my growler fill was $5-6....and I went on Friday night! Maybe it was a little more, but still, I expected to pay $15 or more for what I got. Great lounging areas, friendly locals, bike riders, animal lovers, good music (not live, though).....I will be back for more!

I was in town for work and wanted to try some local craft beer. I'm glad we ended up at Fountain Square Brewing. The bartender was super friendly and very helpful in describing the beers. Flights are $5. Yeah you heard me right only $5. This is unheard of. Wanting to sample them all we each ordered one. He even through in an extra beer for us to sample. We stuck around for a couple more beers and then the bartender and a local customer helped us out with some dinner recommendations. On the way out he handed me some a bunch of the brewery stickers. If you are in Indy and like craft beer Fountain Square Brewing a try.

Did you know this place has $5 growler fill on Sundays?? Man I wish I knew that earlier. I stopped by this craft brewery last Sunday and it was packed, not an empty seat in the house. The beer selection here is great and the staff are knowledgable and helpful. With all the micro breweries popping up in Indy it's hard to keep them all straight but I know this is one I will frequent because it's good. Tip: $5 growler fill on Sundays

Good food, good beer and nice staff. They have good deals on growler refills. I wish there were more seats at the bar. Most bars aren't long enough.

I came down here on a First Friday (which are always a great time in Fountain Square!) to have a beer while a friend filled a growler and was immediately impressed! The beers I tried were very tasty and the atmosphere was happening, with a bunch of people just hanging out here there and everywhere and talking while one guy played guitar and sang (thought the sound system did seem to need some refining...) All in all it was a great trip, and upon learning that they have cheap growler fills on Sundays, I'm going to need to come back and check this place out again!

Went to the grand opening, and tried the milk stout. It was very good. If I lived closer, I would refill my growlers regularly ($5 on Sundays!). Didn't have a chance to try their other beers, so I cannot comment on them. I liked it better than Oaken Barrel.

Cool little spot, and a great addition to Fountain Square. I've never been disappointed by a beer, but I can't say I'm in love with any particular one either. It's no matter. I always have a good time bringing people here, enjoy the industrial-esque yet comfortable atmosphere, and really can't argue with $5 Sunday growler fills.

Three stars for beer, four for space, location, price, and events. To be fair, I'm a huge hop head, so a lot of my beer reviews are heavily influenced by how much I like a brewery's IPA. The Soul Ride IPA here is a little flat - regular decent beer flavor with a bitter finish. The porter, which is not my usual MO, is pretty fabulous. All their beers are definitely drinkable, and $5 growler fills on Sunday bump things up a notch. The space is great - a large warehouse in Fountain Square where you can see art, attend First Friday events, and check out local bands. Thumbs up there. Keep an eye out for events here, because they are a good time. I'll be back with high hopes for Hop Your Face soon!

My visit to FSB was a brief one, with a little time to kill before heading over to the Pacers game. However, I was able to enjoy a flight of six 3 oz. samples for only $5.00. The variety of cleverly named brews included the Workingman's Pilsner, Soul Ride IPA, Hop For Teacher Pale Ale, Backyard Porter, Coffee Hour Amber Ale and Count Nibula Chocolate Stout. I really enjoyed all of them, especially the stout. The tasting room is a relaxing, spacious lounge filled with high-top tables and various pieces of artwork adorning the walls. They don't serve food, but they do allow patrons to bring their dogs inside with them, a bonus for quality beer drinking pet lovers. I just wish I would have had a little more time to hang out here. However, I did buy a pint glass before heading out to add to my collection at home.

One would think with the number of breweries that have opened in Indianapolis that it wouldn't be too hard to find a place for a growler refill at 6:30 pm on a random Tuesday evening. You would be incorrect though... much as I was when my path led me to Fountain Square Brewing. I've had their beer out and about before, so when I heard they were one of the few places open, I decided I'd give them a try. Wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it was a nice place. When I arrived, there were people sitting around on the couches and the bar was pretty busy without too many people working. I only had to wait a minute or two and the bartender came over and filled my Sun King bullet up (without giving me a hard time for bringing a container from another brewery) nice and fast. I was on my way in just a few minutes. The atmosphere was fairly laid back. No live music, no BBQ, and no huge crowds. I guess that's more of a First Friday thing.

This is a cool little place with lots of artistic decor and actual art for sale. I went here with a few friends and we had the IPA, nitro stout, dunkel, and pilsner. All of the beers were solid and decently priced at about $5.50 a pint. They seem to allow dogs in here, or at least on the premises, and there is ample outdoor seating. My biggest complaint is that it is LOUD inside, even without a ton of people. I'd be alright with going back. :-)

GREAT place to spend an afternoon. What more can I say about Fountain Square? Each time I've come, I've had friendly, knowledgeable service, wonderfully low-priced beers ($5 for a flight? Even cheaper pints? Specials on growler fills?), free snacks (mmm, bacon pretzels), and an awesome time. Last time I even purchased a pint glass to take home for my own kitchen collection. The year-round beers, such as backyard porter and workingman's pilsner, play a solid backup role to the delicious seasonals, such as saison duvall. You can't go wrong picking anything off their list, to be honest. The only rough part about visiting is dodging the massive pot holes in the parking lot--ba-dum-psssshhhh.

This is a great place to just chill out with friends and enjoy a beer (or twelve). Good beer, good atmosphere, and the bartenders are friendly. I love that you can taste everything before you decide, since what I want that day depends on my mood. They had a coffee porter a while back that was amazing. Warning though-if you're there on a prime brew bus tour night the crowds will keep coming. Usually the buses only stay for a short while, so it won't be forever, just make sure you aren't out of beer when they walk in.

Amazing level of customer service. I picked up a pony keg of workingman's pilsner, and it was great. The staff was extremely helpful answering my questions and getting me set up. In the end, I contacted them through email, phone, and at the brewery. Each time the staff were courteous and responsive.

I'm very new to beer drinking. I'd always been handed a generic beer in a bottle, or a Bud Light in a can, and shook my head when I took a sip. About a year ago, I found out what I'd been missing; I was introduced to locally produced craft beers, and never looked back. Indianapolis has a lot of brewers producing great offerings & I've enjoyed exploring this new world. Yelp has helped me follow fellow imbibers & discover new breweries to try wherever I wander. I've found lots of new favorites, but my go to beer is definitely Workingman's Pilsner. It tastes great, it goes with all kinds of food, & I never grow tired of it. I find it many places, but I really enjoy coming to the Fountain Square Brewery because of the great location. It's a cool neighborhood & the people here are an interesting mix. There's a traditional bar you can sit at or plenty of tables, chairs, or sofas. It's big & roomy and has vibrant, colorful art on the walls. In the summer they pop open the door & there's outdoor seating; sometimes there's even someone making tasty food outside. But best of all? They're right on the Cultural Trail! So after an exhilarating excursion all over town on Indy's awesome bike trails, you can take a break with a flight or a pint.

Stopped in this past weekend for First Friday for the first time. My boyfriend and his family love FS beer and they almost always have Workingman's Pilsner in a growler, so it wasn't my first time having their beer, but it was my first time at the brewery. I really, really liked it! Roomy and comfy interior with lots of seating. Love all the local art too. Good variety of beers, and each one that I've had is delicious. My only qualm about my past visit is that we only ordered three beers but were charged for four. My own fault.. didn't realize this until I already paid. I'm sure it was an honest mistake, and definitely won't stop me from going back! I also like the thought of getting a pizza from Nameless Pizza delivered here and enjoying my favorite fare of pizza and beer. Will definitely go back - can't wait!

I love beer. I love the local breweries. There is something special about this place. Well, several special things. The beer; while I can name several favorites from most local breweries... I have loved about everything produced here. Whenever I fill growlers, its always multiple blends. Speaking of growlers... $5 fills on Sundays for house brews ($9 special) is a great deal. This is my church on Sundays. Its also a great place to go have a beer, chat with the local folk, and actually be able to hear yourself and any guests think and converse without giving it the ol "Hulk Hogan hand to the ear" to attempt to draw in voices over some loud terrible music. PS: when in season, the stout has a special place in my heart.

I can only rate the beer and the to-go service, as I haven't had a chance to properly sit down for an extended visit. Dropped in on a Sunday to get some growlers filled, and found a pretty intimidating line of customers with the same idea in mind. I was surprised at how quickly they were able to take care of us, it's pretty clear that Sunday growler refills are regularly busy and the staff was well prepared to get everyone in and out. We tried Preacher's Daughter and Soul Ride. I didn't know that they were not part of the $5 Sunday refills, because they were seasonal. But, they were still very reasonably priced at $7. Forgive me for not knowing anything technical about beer flavors, but for regular, non-expert beer drinkers, we thoroughly enjoyed them both. Soul Ride was heavier than I'm used to, but delicious all the same. Next time, I hope to be able to sit and have a drink.

So the wifey has been out of town for awhile and I still haven't had a guys night out. Guy friends to the rescue! We start out here around 6ish, decent crowd, no hipster overload (later) get the flight, like the porter the best, settle on a soul ride. Service good, attentive, clientele mellow yellow, decor hip, open clean, the brewery is in plain view for all to see through the giant roll up door. Dog friendly. Overall a solid player in the FSN.

Awesome place to hang out and kick back with some good brews. The couches are comfy, the artwork always changing and always evocative, plus the staff is pretty damn stellar. They hold awesome events like the peep show and the space is great for holding large crowds.

Great beer, good layout. The Sunday growler fill specials are worth the drive for me. Staff was friendly but the service was slow. Only one person on the bat when I was there. She was trying to pour samples, pints and fill growers so there was a wait. Not sure if that is typical of Fountain Square but I will be back again for the great beers and growler specials. Worth the wait :)

solid place to drink a beer. enter into tasting room in the corner. huge variety of seating options with couches & chairs on the north side, high top tables on the east, & more open space to the south. the bar is on the west wall. stone bar that is not wet in spots, that's just how it's finished with a great lit logo in the center. no rail or foot rest. bar face is in lockdown behind bars. stools with a padded seat and back support. concrete floor and very interesting ceiling covered with corrugated metal panels. art cover the walls. well lit but hanging lights. great beer and solid service and prices.

A bit difficult to find, but worth it. I drove to Fountain Square to get a $5 Sunday growler. It took me at least 10 minutes to find the actual brewery because it is near, but not in, the actual square. It is in a building that used to change carburetors so it has a lot of garage doors on the side. Despite it being the color sunshine yellow it can be hard to see. Other than that, I LOVE THIS PLACE! 'Hop for Teacher' is soooo good. It reminds me of Three Floyds' Gumballhead beer with notes of passionfruit, but it is the first taste instead of the finishing taste. Yum. It is my new favorite! It is also cool that one can sit down inside and have a glass of beer. You cannot do that at Sun King...but at Sun King you get free samples so.... PROS: delicious, open on Sunday, fun youthful vibe indoors CONS: difficult to find, sometimes parking is a very minor issue, no sample day (to my knowledge)

We love this brewery! We first tried FSB RIGHT after they opened at a local bar and didn't care for either beer, unfortunately. But, since Fountain Square is our go-to neighborhood, when the tasting room opened, we were some of the earliest customers. Everything deserves a second chance, right? We are so glad we did! Our usuals are the Backyard Porter and the Hop for Teacher IPA, but they have some outstanding seasonal brews, too. Cinnamon Girl and Hop Your Face----worth a follow for their special releases. They also have fun events throughout the year (their anniversary, Easter, etc). Visit for the beer, stay for the environment, drop in on Sundays for $5 growler fills.

There are dozens of choices in Indy now, so brewers really have to be on top of their game. Fountain Square really delivers and more. Probably my favorite local choice, and I love that they have the porter on tap year round. It's tricky for stout and porter lovers to find these options in the warmer months. Their nitro porter is a must try Friendly staff, bike friendly (right off the cultural trail and they have a bike rack directly by the entrance), pet friendly, and great prices. $5 growlers on Sunday are especially good. Highly recommended.

I'm lovin it! Mrs. F had a girls night at Pure Eatery. And I couldn't find any friends in the area to join me so I had myself a little tasting Party at Fountain Square Brewing. The tasting flight was fantastic. The service was great for how busy they were. There seemed to be a large either work party or family party or something that took up all the seating. That was the only downside. More seating please :) So I found myself a comfy little place in the corner on the concrete floor. I didn't mind though I had fun yelping on my phone sipping some great suds. I really liked there porter.

Favorite brewery in Indianapolis for the beer, environment, location, and friendly bartenders. Love every beer they have on tap and always excited to see what their seasonals are!

One of the best places to hang out and grab a beer with friends. The outside patio area is just a few picnic tables but it's cozy and it works. The Tap room has some nice couches to relax and have a beer on. If you're into pinball there is one particularly retro 80's one that grabs your attention as soon as you walk in. Another one of the better things...Dog Friendly! I love that they set out a water dish too, super nice! Especially when Im walking my easily overheated dog around the Square. Now to the main reason I go here...The Beer. Im a huge fan of Amber beers and holy cow...Their Preachers Daughter Amber Draft is hands down the best Amber I've had locally. It's a local ritual to go get my Sunday $5 growler fill. Even if I end up working I try to run over here and get it before they close at 7! If you're a fan of Hoppy Beers their Hop For Teacher is worth a try, I think its pretty awesome and their porter is great too. Im not fond of their pilsner at all, I've given it a few tries and I can't find it enjoyable but everyone I know seems to like it. Their season Hop Your Face draws a huge crowd and it's a local favorite. Just started filling that in growlers recently too. Worth a taste! The staff here deals with a lot and always has a crowd to deal with. They always seem to have a smile on their face and quick to help. I definitely appreciate that! Plus, they know good music, I've heard them pumping some Umphrey's Mcgee a few times which makes me happy!

This is probably my second favourite local brewery. The beer is decent, the atmosphere nice and the service good. I've yet to find a closer brewery that I really liked on the southside, so I tend to hang out here more often. I haven't found any of their beer incredibly remarkable or outstanding, but they are very, very good. I have also not found one of them to be bad, boring or tasteless. It would be even better if there were some reliable, regular food trucks or some sort of local food delivery service, like Flat 12.

This is quickly becoming my favorite brewery. Beer production wise, it's in the top 2 of the city. Awesome branding and art work, plenty of space in the tap room for lounging, having beer themed work meetings, or just sitting in the bar area chatting with the awesome staff. While their Porter is probably the best beer of theirs i have had, i have yet to have any of their other varieties that aren't also quite amazing.

Visited for the first time this weekend and kicking myself for not coming sooner. This is definitely, by FAR, my FAVORITE brewery in town (sorry for the caps but it was just that damn good!). We had the flights and there was not a single beer I didn't love. The location itself is so badass. Between the loungy seats and the artwork and the adorable dogs that people brought in, there was no better place I wanted to be that day. Beer: 6/5 - heck yeah!! I brought home a Pilsner growler and a Porter one. Don't leave the brewery without them! Service: 5/5 - super friendly Location: 6/5 - my new slice of heaven, I'm completely smitten!

I'm never sure what the atmosphere is going to be like when I come here, but one is always a constant, good beer. As I just mentioned, the atmosphere in here varies seemingly every time I visit. Sometimes it's packed and loud, other times it's near empty, and I've even been here when there is live music and BBQ. It's probably easier to predict than I am making it sound, as it's pretty common to have a huge crowd on First Fridays, a busier crowd on normal weekends, and it's common to have the place nearly to yourself during the day on a weekend or on weekday nights. I prefer the latter of those options, as I've always had great bartenders that love talking about their beer and the brewery, along with any other Indy happenings, and it's fun to sit there and chat with them while enjoying a cold pint. On the crowded nights, it can get very loud and difficult to order beers, especially with people filling the growlers and bullets that they sell here, but they work hard to get everyone taken care of. The one time I was here with live music was awesome, as they had the big back garage door open and a 4-piece bluegrass style band playing. I hope they do that more often, and I will keep an eye out this summer for more of that. The space is pretty much a large open area with some comfy seating, a few tables, and a smaller bar with a handful of stools. You can see through windows into both their brewery and their lab, and it's neat to get to see. They do have bike parking, usually behind the building, and there is some car parking in different lots around the vicinity. Getting here by bike is my suggestion, as it is very easy to get to from the cultural trail, with only a very short jog on a road with a dedicated bike path and a hop through a parking lot. They aren't open very late, so this is more of a place to come after work or after an early dinner, rather than a destination on a late night out, but it's certainly worth the trip. If you are one of those people who regularly fills growlers, Sunday is the day to do it here as house growler fills are only $5. This probably isn't 100% accurate, but my guess is that they offer around 5 or 6 standard brews that are around for the entire year, and supplement their menu with seasonal or experimental beers. I've noticed recently that they are getting more and more into some of the experimental beers and put out some great options in styles that are harder to find. You can get flights to sample a lot of their beers if you can't choose just one. Fountain Square Brewing got in here a little early than some of the breweries that are popping up now, and I think that has let them really focus on putting out great beers. It's common to see their offerings around Indy, and there aren't too many major beer stores where you can't purchase their bottles. I don't often see a food truck here, which would be great if they could get that worked out and would be one of my only wants if they were asking. Maybe they do and I just never notice it. It's a little out of the way of the main area in Fountain Square, but there are still food places pretty close if you need to satisfy a craving. The only other thing that I would suggest is doing tours. If they do them now, they don't advertise it. I love going through brewery tours, and it seems like an easy thing to offer your customers without interfering with production. This isn't really beer related, but they do have some really cool merchandise. Keep on keeping on, FSB

The beers at Fountain Square Brewing are solid. I love that you can order a pint or tasters. I feel like almost every time I'm here, I see someone I know - it's that kind of neighborhood joint. They have some great seasonals so make sure you check them out. And $5 Sunday growler fills - yes! Honestly, I find it a little bit annoying that they have posters of stereotypical women like "Preacher's Daughter", "Hot Teacher", etc. With microbreweries, I can typically avoid supporting the kind of crappy sexist marketing that some of the macrobreweries have been putting out for years. It's minor but something that makes me think we need more women brewers!

Neat microbrewery in an up-and-coming part of town. Used to be an automobile service center. This is a huge plus for those of us who ride bicycles as they open one of the service bay doors and allow you to park your bike inside. It is also dog-friendly. The beers are all pretty good, but produced in fairly small quantities (other than the house beers). The seasonals change frequently so be sure to get a tasting flight before filling your growler.

Felt like a Denver brewery co. Loved the set up of the tasting room! Great spot for big or small groups to hang out and enjoy an afternoon. The tasting for $5 is an awesome deal because they do have such a variety - and the presentation is really cool. It got a little loud at times because it the sound is trapped, so we were kind of shouting at each other to talk, but wasn't a total buzz kill. We didn't try any snacks, but they small menu was impressive. I would love to back and spend a more time here, and would love to see outdoor seating in their huge parking lot. Maybe a low deck built on the front?

$5 growler fills on Sundays... need I say more! Their flag ship beers are OK but it is the seasonal that I love to drink. If your going to Fountain Square Brewing for the first time try a flight of everything they have on tap. No food at the Brewery but I think you can order in a pizza from down the street.

  • Lance B.

This is my Sunday location of Choice.... why Sunday? They have a TV with football on it, it's $5 growler fill days, and they always have fresh beer on tap. I often visit here with my neighbors for a few drafts and always end up getting some Nameless Pizza slices also. The Beer is amazing. It's arguably the best beer in all of Indianapolis. I'm a big fan of Hop for Teacher, a wonderfully constructed IPA that they always have on tap. After a beer I get a slice of Nameless Pizza for $2.75 (cash only!) and sometimes even splurge on a Sugar, inc Tiny Cake! If you're looking for a cool place for a meeting with friends, neighbors, or maybe even a first date... this is your location!

Fountain Square Brewing is one of my favorite spots to unwind after work. There is always new local art on display, so there's something new and interesting to look at every time I go. It can be crowded and noisy but somehow that doesn't ruin the experience for me. It just increases the likelihood of running into new friends! The $5 growler fills on Sunday are a great deal.

Called ahead and they are letting me keep my bike inside! Grateful! Very cool semi industrial interior, great beer and I wasn't the only one that brought my bike which was pretty cool. Great place to hang with a group of friends. The only complaint I heard from my friends who didn't know the area was they passed right by and took a couple of tries to track the place down.

It's well past time I updated my review. Call me a homer, but Fountain Square is my favorite brewery in the city. I like all of their house beers, even the pilsner! I especially like the Porter. It's good all the time. If you buy a growler and have any leftover it's great for cooking. I'm also a bid fan of their seasonals. The Hop Your Face is the best. It's really up the with Dogfish Head 90 Minute, which is saying something. They also throw great parties when they have a beer release. The tasting room staff has always been very friendly. You can get smalll tastes of anything, or purchase a pint or flights. They also of course have growler sales, and at a great price. $5 fill for house beers on Sundays. It's mind-blowing. This is a very regular stop for me in the square, and not just because I live right across the street.

Worth the trip to the tap room. I stopped with a group for a Saturday evening drink before dinner elsewhere. It's a party in a giant garage. The band was terrific and the beer good. I had a flight of six of their craft beer for only 5 bucks. All tasty and distinct from the pilsner to the porter to the 'Cinnamon Girl". We stayed longer than planned as it was good fun.

This was probably my favorite brewery and the last stop on our Brew Bus tour. They have plenty of places to sit (at the bar, couches, and tables), they serve food, they are more than happy to give you any sample of beer that you want, and they have a variety to choose from. I liked their lightest beer the best and ended up purchasing one. Their staff was very friendly and helpful too. We ordered a piece of pizza that tasted very good, but was kind of cold. At that point we didn't care. They have fun things to do while you wait for your food or hang out and drink- like play with hula hoops or write on the chalkboards in the bathrooms (that ended up being pretty funny). I love the different paintings and decorations that they have too. It's a very neat place to come hang out and try some local brews, and maybe even grab a bite to eat.

Great beer and fun times! Bartenders are fun and service is quick. We had a group here to celebrate a Birthday during a First Friday Fountain Square night and the music was a great addition to the beers! Cheers! I enjoy the sometimes fun, clever, and witty Beer names that are generated by the Fountain Square Brewing team. They might start giving out a prize for some of these names! Too fun and so creative! Wow! It makes it light and fun to order these beers! I've enjoyed trying the: Working Man's Pilsner, Backyard Porter, Soul Ride IPA, and even the Double Dog!

I'll say up front that I don't drink beer. I took my parents here as a tour of Indy. My dad likes craft beers so I figured a local brew co would be interesting for him. He had a fun time trying a sampler. The paintings on the wall crack me up. The dudes that work here are really knowledgeable and are cool to talk to. The one guy thought I was a freak of nature that I don't drink beer but he was good natured about it. If you want to try something new with a laid back atmosphere, then this place is a good spot!

I can't really write much since I don't really like beer. GASP! It's ok folks. My husband does and he immensely approves of this place. As does my dog since he is allowed here. When I come in the people are always polite, Pongo always has a bowl of water, and it is a great place to hang in our hood! I am loving watch the Brew grow and expand!

My favorite brewery in Indy. It's just around the corner from Fountain Square. Try the pilsner or the Hop for Teacher, those are my favorites. They have flights, pints and growler-fills (and on Sundays). If you ask nice, they will also do 1/2 pints for you. Great staff and very knowledgeable. They take a great deal of pride in their beer. The are also proud of their lab, which is unusual to have in a small brewery. They have pizza that delivers to the brewery. "No Name Pizza" . It's not bad, if it is "fresh". If you see it delivered and are hungry, try some. Otherwise, find out how long it has been in the warmer. They also feature different artists each month and have various special events thru out the year. Give it a try.

This spot is pretty unique. It has an office furniture/hipster bar feel. I liked about half the beers. The pilsner was surprisingly good, I thought it was be more plain and boring but it was very crisp. The milk stout and the amber were my favorites. I don't remember the name but the whiskey one was very interesting. It had so much flavor it seemed like a beer you would normally get in a snifter glass or something but they give you a whole pint so you might want to split it with someone it is pretty intense. They had some games but they were all for more than two people.

Great fresh brewed beer by a great staff! I enjoy coming on Sundays with our pit bulls to grab a couple or growlers of beer. Pet friendly and people friendly, this brewery also boasts some of Indys best brews. See you tomorrow!

Another one of my favorite local breweries. The beers are great. All of them! My favorite year round offering is their porter. They offer some really fantastic seasonal beers as well. The Choc milk stout they brew seasonally is great. Staff has always been great, Friendly, etcetera. I love that they don't take themselves too seriously. Very welcoming taproom.

For a long time this has been my favorite brewery in the downtown area. I fell in love with the preacher's daughter years ago, don't tell anyone. Their seasonals are really where it's at. Being a heavier beer drinker, I am a huge fan of their hop your face. It is a solid Double IPA that has a great hop flavor that doesn't cut your palate. Also, their count nibula chocolate stout is top notch for an easier drinking stout. Also, the 12-21 stout from last year was one of a kind (please bring it back!) I'm very pleased they added the soul ride IPA to their standards line up. It was the big hole in their line up. They ended up making the seasonal a regular which was greatly appreciated. The staff is always very accommodating and makes you feel like they appreciate your business. The atmosphere is also chill, an amazing place to have a conversation. Finally, the open food policy is great. You can score food from a food truck, or you can bring in take out if you like.

Constantly great brews. The FSQ Pilsner is going to be my pool beer of the summer. Especially now that it is in bottles. I've yet to have a seasonal that didn't fit the style. Some haven't been my favorite, but they definitely know what they're doing when it comes to brewing. Pilsner, Big Nuggets, Hop Your Face, Shelby St. Strong, and Hop for Teacher, oh and 2112 are ones that really stick out in my mind, Be careful on $5 dollar Sundays. The line can get a bit long but they're extremely efficient with usually 2 people working the growler station.

Went here for the Grand Opening last night. We took a cab from our place downtown. Be warned, the cab driver had real difficulty finding this place and we all wound up using our Iphones to get us there, as we just moved here from Chicago a few months ago and we aren't familiar with this neck of the woods (yet). It is set back from the main street in a big warehouse. Glad we managed to find our way! The place was completely packed and basically standing room only with two sectional couches off to the side of the tapping room, as well as a few scattered bar stools. Beer was good, the staff were handling the large crowd well. A little off our beaten path but will definately be back.

I'm liking what's going on at Fountain Square Brewing. The Working Man Pilsner is quickly becoming one of my favorite beers. The lighting is kind of dark, and there's bar seating, tables, and a couple of couches. A garage-ish kind of feel to the place. But I dig it. Bought a sampler and a couple of pints and just enjoyed hanging out here. Not nearly as crowed as some of the other breweries in Indy, but as the word gets out about their beer I think that's going to change.

I've loved watching this brewery evolve. I was there on the night they'd torn a bunch of ceiling panels down to try to get the A/C working for the first time. Hell, I was there before they HAD ceiling panels...before they had tables and stools. Back in the day...what...late 2011 or early 2012? In fact, this was my drinking spot of choice for St. Patrick's Day last year! The beer is damn good, the people running the place seem like good guys too. And...wait for it...they are legit nerds. Like, chemistry and physics nerds. Which means there's SCIENCE behind their beers! Next time you're there, quietly say "Bernoulli's Principle" and watch the heads swivel. My favorite Fountain Square brew is Count Nibula Chocolate Stout, a close second is their Porter. I like the big label-art murals on the walls and the couches for lounging on. They also have some pretty fun events, like the Peep Show...in which people build cannons to use to fire marshmallow birds at a target. The last several times I've been here, I've run into the Brew Bus people. The reason there isn't 5 stars is that I've talked to some restaurant owners and long-time bartenders...chatter is that this brewery tends to have trouble keeping inventory in stock, and that's why you don't see their beers served places more often. Evidently they need to hire a math or econ guy too. If you're having trouble finding it, just look for Bud's Supermarket.

A small homey brewery perfect for that cold snowy afternoon. A couple weeks ago, I told my wife, while we looked outside at the heavy snowfall, that on a day like today, what sounded best was heading to a brewery to sip on some local brews while the elements took their toll outside. Lo and behold, a few days later, during another snowfall, I did just that. I knew that Fountain Square had a new chocolate milk stout that I wanted to try, so I called a friend and met him for a couple of drinks. Such a quaint and comfortable place to visit. While we hung out and chatted, quite a few people strolled in to fill growlers or to have a pint. I got hungry while I drank, so I left my glass right there and ran across the street to B's Po Boy and brought in a sandwich to satisfy my hunger. Plus, as a higher alcohol content beer, I wanted to make sure I put some protein in my belly while I sipped. I look forward to my next visit. I look forward to all my visits to the local breweries though. On a side note, I also appreciate that they dont seem to compete with each other much, and rather compliment each other more. And promote each other. See, beer really does bring people together!

I've started making it a point to get to know the local breweries. My taste for beer has started to move away from the hoppy IPAs into ambers, porters, and stouts, so I heard Fountain Square Brewing was a great place to try. Tucked into one of my favorite neighborhoods, this tasting room is inviting, open and easy to move through with great artwork. I've visited several times and there is always a buzz of activity that makes it a fun stop. The Backyard Porter is my favorite and I've made it point to come in for $5 Growler fills on Sundays. Can't wait for it to warm up so we can enjoy the patio!

The best beer in town. I wish it was cheaper, but prices are generally higher for the local breweries. The servers were friendly and beautiful. All of their beer is solid, but my favorite is the Preacher's Daughter amber, although I feel dirty asking for it. ("I'd like a Preacher's Daughter. Wait...where are you going?") Sometimes they have a box of Nameless Pizza Co. at the bar and you can buy pizza by the slice. You can also order a pizza from Nameless and they will deliver it to the brewery. If you're hungry and don't feel like pizza, B's Po Boy, which is excellent, is across the street. The brewery can be difficult to find the first time. It is tucked away behind some new condos and it is next to a grocery store. Occasionally, you see some strange-looking people walking by the grocery store that look strung out. I guess that's the good and bad of Fountain Square.

  • Bobby N.

I keep going back. And have learned to avoid the big pothole as you turn left to cross past the front door. This place is great for many reasons. My favorite is still the Preacher's Daughter Amber. A close runner up is the Hope for the Teacher Pale Ale. - Sunday growler fill for $5. - Decor - I cannot think of a better way to decorate an old car repair shop. It is top notch and creative. - Artwork - outstanding local art work. - Staff - friendly, courteous and attentive - Brewery - top notch beers and a changing tap line up.

It's about time that I reviewed a brewery since I am an avid beer lover, so I will start with one of my favorites in Indy. Fountain Square Brewing has not been around that long but it is already making a name for itself in many ways. The beer: the regulars are the Working Man's Pilsner, the Backyard Porter, the Preacher's Daughter Amber, and Hop for Teacher Pale Ale. All of them are quality beers, but my absolute favorite is the Porter which goes down nice and smooth. Many of their seasonal a are also great and if you are a hop head like me then you do not want to miss the Hop Your Face Imperial IPA! The Tasting Room: has always been a work in progress, but keeps on improving. A very comfortable atmosphere with a good staff who I have never had a problem with. If you have a dog, they are welcome as well which is a bonus. Last is the best part: $5 growler refills on Sunday!! If you haven't been here yet then you are missing out on some of the best craft beer in Indy!

My wife and I have been here a couple of times and enjoy the beers. Got a flight each time and then a pint or two. The beers are very good and the staff is a least average, the reason for only 3 stars is the artwork in the building should make anyone think twice. It objectifies women and the owner should think about this and question if this is the image they want to be standing behind. Thanks.

Awesome brewery! I love how open it is, plus there are all kinds of different seating options (at the bar, in bar stools around high tables, lower seating at a table, and a several lower couches with a coffee table type feel). They offer quite a variety of beers made on site - all are between $4.50 and $5.50 per pint (very reasonable). I love all of their bright colored artwork showcasing their different beers. The owners are very nice and personable, and they even reserved a section of the brewery for us on a Friday night to accommodate my birthday party. Since they do not offer food on site, they allowed us to bring in catered food. You must try this place if you are riding the microbrew bandwagon! Thank you, Teresa and Bill!

My personal favorite of the Indy micro breweries! Workingmans Pilsner is smooth and tasty. Great everyday beer. I've tried their Soul Ride IPA and their seasonal Imperial IPA (the name has slipped my mind). Best in town - in my opinion. Brew pub a little tricky to find at night, but well worth the trip!!!

Of the breweries in Indy, this is my favorite. First, the beers are honest. High quality and interesting. The staff and ownership (Bill rocks) are top notch and super friendly. The space, while in an old car repair shop hidden off the road behind a new construction project, is gorgeous. Nice lighting and decor (love the art work representing some of their beers on the wall) and the bar is unique and lovely. Good lounge seating. They also put on some cool parties that keep getting more finely tuned. These events are a great way to bring the community together and uplift Indiana beer. Well done.

I've been a fan of the Preacher's Daughter Amber but this was my first visit to the tasting room! The room has a great urban chic feel (I was made fun of for making that declaration but I stand by that observation enough to post it here). The tasting room is on one side of the warehouse and there are huge windows so that you can look into the brewing space. We sat on comfy couches around a large wood table and there was also seating at a bar and tall bistro tables. This tasting room has a "sit and stay awhile" vibe that I really liked. My friends and I had a great time sampling the beers in that environment. Very friendly and welcoming. Excellent beer. I will definitely be back!

First tired this place a few weeks ago with my hubby's frisbee league. We were very impressed. The beers had a great flavor and you can tell they are made with love :) The atmosphere here is also nice. They have couches to lounge on and enjoy your pints and pretty cool bar as well. Will definitely be coming back soon for some more local beer!

So, not my favorite place. On the plus side, the staff were all very friendly and helpful at giving taste tests. On the downside, my taste buds and their beer options just didn't jive. I would have liked them to have offered a lower IBU beer other than a dark brew and something wheat. Also, I didn't dig the atmosphere. It was way too quiet. A little bit of music goes a long way in making an environment warmer.

I attended a senior project art show at Fountain Square Brewing Co. called Ladybrew and I had a fantastic time at the brewery. Very spacious, a nice atmosphere, and an interesting location make it very appealing. I had a few pints of beer, including the Big Nugget IPA, which I highly recommend, and the Hop For Teacher, which was as great as its name. The pints range between $4.50 - $5.50. It seems a tiny bit pricey, but maybe it isn't. You can purchase growlers of their beer and I believe they also serve food. They have very comfortable couches for sitting and nice, wooden tables to keep the space together. Fountain Square is an up and coming area and I think that Fountain Square Brewing Co. is going to succeed very well in this changing area. I would linger here way more often if I didn't live on the other side of the city. I'm looking forward to the next time I can grab a beer here!

Stopped by on a busy Friday night. The bartenders were super friendly. The space is industrial dive. A little bit of seating. The prices are great. They have parking! Easy to get to. The problem is that their beers are below average. The four full time beers were all underwhelming. The seasonals might be good. But I probably won't make a trip to see if they happen to have a good seasonal when I don't like their "big 4." The pale was overdone with Cascade hops. The porter was more like an English Brown. The amber was fine, but not memorable. I will try them again, but I was disappointed.

Fountain Square has always been close to my heart growing up. I always wanted it to be my southside Broadripple. Well it is there now minus the douchebags. A new gem in this area is the Fountain Square Brewery. The equipment and brewer were acquired from the defunct Alcatraz Brewery. I have been there twice and the staff and ownership are second to none. All the beer I have had is great. The Count Nibula Chocolate Stout is off the charts. I am glad to see such a great place makes its home in my favorite area in town. It had lots of big hurdles to get off, being the new brewery in town and being the new guy in a flourishing area. But if anyone made it to their grand opening, you can tell they are knocking it out of the park. Congrats guys!

So, I'm a nerd. I studied politics in college, and I've really been waiting to use a potentially inappropriate reference in my Yelp review. Fortunately, FSB gives me a chance to combine the best of both worlds! In 1964, Justice Potter Stewart gave his opinion on Jacobellis v. Ohio, a Supreme Court case which weighed whether or not pornography/obscenities are protected speech. He said that he cannot present an articulate definition on what hardcore pornography is, but he "knows it when he sees it." With that being said (wait for it...) I'm not sure if I can articulately define what it means to be cool, or to be hip, but I know it when I see it. FSB is COOL. Live music, access to some of the movers and shakers in Indianapolis, a food truck parked outside, great atmosphere, quirky interior decorating and GREAT BEER that'll knock you on your ass, FSB is the pub/bar of the future. Or if you live in Chicago/Seattle/any other major City, this is your expectation of a great bar (YES, Indy is a few years behind!) With that being said, I left FSB impressed. I tried probably every beer, and I was even given a lesson on what an "India Pale Ale" is, and why they taste so "different" The Amber was one of the best beers that I've ever had, which isn't saying much coming from a person not too far removed from his days of Natty Light, but still significant! If you're looking to impress some one with your knowledge of beer, live music venues, or anything else for that matter, you'll get a guaranteed +50 points for bringing them to FSB. **NOTE** The only bad thing is they close so early! It was about 12:30 and they had last call. Bummer.

This brewery is awesome on pretty much every level. I had their beer out and around town before making it to the brewery, but I've now been several times and only like it more each time I go. The beer is really excellent, especially the porter, and the people making and pouring it are fantastic (I'm looking at you, Bill and Scott!). The brewery itself it really a cool place to hang out - great art, comfy couches, and tons of room. The seasonals are also excellent, and I agree with Jonathan M that the Count Nibula Chocolate Stout is off the charts. I had an oatmeal stout this past weekend that was also excellent. With the beer being so great so early in the game, I really look forward to what they'll be coming up with in the future.

How could I possibly sum up everything about FSB in one review? The beer is delicious. The staff is super friendly and I enjoy our conversations about beer and the community. Every once and awhile they host different kinds of events, including First Friday, and more recently, a 12/21/12 "end of the world" party and special release of an Imperial Stout that was excellent. Growler fills are affordable, especially on Sundays. There are both couches and regular tables. The artwork is enjoyable, although I'm not sure who chooses it. As stated in other reviews, their Backyard Porter is phenomenal. I was not a big fan of pilsners before, but the Workingman's Pilsner changed my mindset, and is a great beer to start with before moving onto something heavier.

We came here because they were open way later than the other local breweries in the area. The bartenders were very friendly and informative and the beer is great! Would definitely go back again!

As breweries go, one living in Indianapolis has had the luxury of learning to be discerning in the past few years. Among esteemed colleagues such as Sun King Brewing, Flat 12, Triton, and Bier (and others, of course), Fountain Square needed to stand out. More than good location and name and good branding would be needed to satisfy the savage be(er drinking be)ast. Like good beer... Check. - Their beers are traditional. Nothing fancy, but I like when I order an amber and it tastes like an amber. It's not too hoppy not to light, but fully bodied. The blonde is smooth and airy without being weak. The porters are rich and flavorful and heavy if you drink enough of them. Exactly what you would expect each to taste like. Like good ambiance... Check. - The internal construction and art are certainly interesting! I'm a huge fan of the local art on the walls, because it's a great way to showcase other things Hoosiers are doing. The metal on the ceilings is noticeable but leaves a good impression. There's plenty of seating and standing space, and you can bring your bike in! Like good service... Check. - With plenty of servers to handle what's happening at the bar while still being able to wash glasses, change kegs, chat with the patrons, FSB makes sure you don't feel neglected. So, three checks. At least it wasn't three strikes. Definitely worth a stop on the Brew Bus or even just as part of a night in the Square.

I'm a huge fan of good craft beer and frequently visit other brewerys close to downtown (flat 12, Rock Bottom, Sunking). I went over the weekend for the first time to see a friend having a birthday party here and I must say I'm very impressed with the beer selection and taste. I tried their IPA, Amber, and Pilsner. They were all fantastic with great taste that in my opinion beat out the other local brews, minus Sunking's Osiris. The atmosphere was nice also and the service was good. I will definitely be stopping back in here.

I like what's going on here. Instead of the conventional formula most craft brewers follow when they first open, FSB is taking some chances and trying some different beers. I'm primarily a pale drinker but I didn't love their IPA or APA. They were decent, and on par with other breweries in the area, but not great. I did think the Amber and the Coffee Stout were a bit better than similar brews from other local joints. As others have said, $5 growler fills on Sundays is great. That said, I will probably wish they had earlier Sunday hours this fall when football season starts. It would be nice to get some fills on my way to tailgate. If we have 4 o'clock or Sunday night games, the Noon opening won't be a problem. Considering the Colts were 2-14 this season, however, I'm not counting on anything but 1 PM kickoffs. This will likely become a regular stop when we're in the area. Another solid addition to Fountain Square!

Good beers and fun service. Loved their samples. Nitro Porter was really nice.

If you like porters then you really really need to grab your growler and head down here. The brewer loves the porter and I know why. This is the best porter I have had. We were there the day they open and have been back several times. The place gets better and better everytime we go. The owners are very hands on and this place deserves 10 stars.

Best local brewery in Indianapolis. It is by far my favorite of them all in Indianapolis. They have better tasting beers than all the others. The place is hard to find but when you do, its awesome. YOu can buy a bunch of merchandise and growlers once in there. They have 4 beers on Tap and 3 seasonals. It would have gotten 5 stars if they had ANY kind of food. That was the disappointing part. If you like craft brews check this place out, you wont regret it!

Not yet open for business, my husband and I were excited to be invited to the brewery to sample their first batches of Pale Ale and Porter and take a look at the facility. The Pale was very good; very hoppy, but drinkable. The owners and brewmaster are all very friendly and are very energetic about the new brewery, their beer, and the Fountain Square neighborhood. After our small taste of what's to come, we are definitely thirsty for more and can't wait to see this place up and running.

Hands down best local craft beer available... 4 very stellar year round brews, and always a very heady selection of seasonals... Backyard porter and Workingmans pilsner are elite beers no matter where you are... The oat stout seasonal, count nibula milk stout and hope your face have been some of the most recent home run seasonal brews that have been on tap more recently... Will always recommend fountain square brewery first of any of the local craft beer joints in Indy! Keep up the good work!

This place is great. It's essentially a tasting room with a small bar, some chairs and couches, and a big open area with a garage door, as it used to be a warehouse. It would benefit from a handful of cocktail tables in the empty space, and hopefully in the summer they will open the garage door to food trucks. The decor is very simple and easy on the eyes - concrete floor, aluminum siding used as the ceiling, very modern and minimalistic. The beertenders are fantastic - my friend and I each received a sample of all of their beers. That made it easy for getting a pint and filling my growler. I thought all the beer was good, not unbelievable, but tasty nonetheless. I really enjoyed the Winter Warmer with nutmeg. I'll be back to see what they have going on in the future, for sure.

  • Catherine K.

After reaching out to the brewery via Facebook, they contacted me and apologized for the missing growler. They promised to make it right. I wasn't looking for anything free (although I will gladly take a pint, lol); I just wanted them to be aware of the issue. We all hope it was an honest mistake. Regardless, I was really impressed with their professionalism and responsiveness!

Pretty darn delicious beer and the folks behind the scenes are pouring the growlers and want to talk with people and get involved with the Fountain Sq scene. I think things look promising for this new brewery. $5 growler specials on Sunday nights. I hear they delivery too!

I can't get over the fact that I have a brewery in my neighborhood that has $5 Sunday growler fills.. I'm almost in tears.

Exactly what Fountain Square needed! Everyone who works here is great, willing to talk to you, and makes you feel welcomed in their taproom. The new Batch 13 IPA, an unfiltered, first IPA from them, is divine. Huge mango and apricot, with great underlying bitterness. With more seasonals in the works all the time, Fountain Square will only get better! Go on Sundays for $5 growler fills! Go every other day they're open to experience what Fountain Square is all about!

First visit on a First Friday and I was very impressed. Large, comfortable tasting and tap room and several good beers on tap. Quickly becoming one of Indy's top breweries. Really impressed with the overall atmosphere and quality.

I love this brewery and how great all of the brews taste. I also enjoy their reasonable prices and great big parking lot which makes it easy to pick up a growler when down in Fountain Square. The atmosphere is great and you can't beat the $5 Sunday growler fills!

  • Amanda B.

Visited twice while on Indy Brew Tour. Enjoyed the selection both times. Try the Backyard Porter.

Can't go wrong with the Hop for Teacher Pale Ale. Very friendly staff and love the artwork for each beer!

The atmosphere is nice and relaxing, but I just don't like any of their beers. It is nice to be able to get a pizza delivered here though!

A favorite for it's friendly staff, location is nice, and really terrific beer. Loved that you can sit at the bar and really chat up with the staff . Being from San Diego, I understand good beer and enjoyable tasting rooms. This is a hit...

This might be my favorite brewery in Indianapolis. Great beer and fun place to hang out. $5 growlers on Sunday. Nice for football Sundays. They allow puppies inside the bar. What more could you want.

Dionysus has passed the secrets of ambrosia to mortals, and they have given themselves the name Fountain Square Brewing Company. I have tried their pilsner, amber, and porter at various places around Indy, not one among them is any less than great!

  • Matt F.

  • Eric S.

If you like porters then you really really need to grab your growler and head down here. The brewer loves the porter and I know why. This is the best porter I have had. We were there the day they open and have been back several times. The place gets better and better everytime we go. The owners are very hands on and this place deserves 10 stars.

  • Zach Z.

  • Kjirsten K.

  • Mike M.

  • Virginia L.

Pretty darn delicious beer and the folks behind the scenes are pouring the growlers and want to talk with people and get involved with the Fountain Sq scene. I think things look promising for this new brewery. $5 growler specials on Sunday nights. I hear they delivery too!

I have never gotten a beer in a plastic cup at a brew pub.
