This is one of only a very few places that will deliver to my area, so I've definitely ordered from them pretty often! The food's pretty darn good, and you get sizeable portions for the cost. I also appreciate that they have a good variety of vegetarian options. Overall, I think First Wok offers good food for a good price, but the one downside is that they are painfully slooooow with the delivery. An hour wait is not at all unusual, and anything under 45 minutes would make me fall over in shock. So, if you're ordering in, order early!

I decided to just go for it, reading about this restaurant's authenticity. I hate American Chinese food for the most part, even when it's done well, so, when I get Chinese, I want good, real Chinese. No goopy sweet and sour, no fictitious military figures, no low-quality fried chicken, just real Chinese. For a such a hole in the wall, this place has a very extensive menu. In addition to the 15 or so items on its lunch menu, they have another 30 or so in the regular menu. They do deliver and you can get dine-in or carry-out. The place is pretty run-down, so it's not the nicest place to eat in, but they do offer green tea (hot water + packets) for free. It's obviously a family-run place, with two or three men in the back yelling at each other in Mandarin, handling flaming woks, and a soft-spoken woman at the front translating the order specifics. They have roast pork, which is a huge plus, and possibly the best egg rolls in the city. The dishes are served with fresh (not frozen) vegetables and you can opt for fried or white rice. The sauces generally offer a little bit of spice. Like most places, they use a few sauces for the large number of dishes, just to speed things up a little. What's really attractive about this place is the price: most of the lunch specials are $5 with tax, and that includes the entree, fried or white rice, and a choice of soup or egg roll. Now that's a good deal. And a lot of that American Chinese garbage is on that lunch menu, if that's what you want. But, if you're like me, and you like the Chinese to be somewhat authentic and relatively healthy, you also have plenty of options for that as well. But, overall, this is some of the better Chinese food I've had in a city with a low Chinese population. If this were in Tucson, for instance, I would have been there once a month, at least. If this were in Chicago, Toronto, LA, Seattle, or any city with a lot of very good Chinese food, then I don't know that it would stand out except for its extremely low price. Not sure about the specific hours, but they're open until at least 9. A lot of people get take out and call ahead. They do a pretty brisk business, so that looks to be a good idea. I'm curious if this is the same owner as the one with the same name on Allisonville. Have to report back on that.

First of all I am a Chinese food snob since I've been to China and second, I am a customer service snob since I've worked at the Ritz Carlton, yep, Ladies & Gentlemen serving Ladies & Gentlemen, they are the leaders in customer service. First Wok excelled in both food and customer service for me. Yummy food, and great service, what more do you need? I just landed into Indy, I was hungry, and they delivered excellence. So how come you are still reading yelp reviews instead of ordering? Ha ha. Enjoy!

As my photos demonstrate, Santa dines here! Shrimp was decent or standard, haven't been back since though.

Very good food and great service. Recommend General Tso's chicken and fried or steamed dumplings.

I order from here anywhere from 2 to 3 times a month for the past year or so. I usually get the shrimp egg rolls which are super delicious. Chicken with Broccoli, I love the sauce. The Fried Rice I always ask for no onions one time i got it with onions and it was just too much for me. The best thing I have ordered is the Roast Pork lomein. My kids love this place as well. I would have given it a 5 stars but in ocasion I have gotten some salty food like the burboun chicken, but when i mixed some white rice it was actually very good. I have never dined in, I always get take out its a bit run down. Don't pass this place up. Another great thing is that you can order on line, have lunch specials, and their portions are great.

I am feeling betrayed as I write this review. I trusted the other Yelp reviews that this was a quality restaurant. I'm sorry to say it is not. Cleanliness: I really should have left immediately. The floors and walls were filthy. The base boards had a buildup of gunk that had to have taken years to accumulate. There was food stains on all of the walls. There was a water cooler that had not been cleaned in a significant period of time. I'm surprised the health department allows them to stay open. Food: We have eaten in some third world countries where the restaurant was dirty but the food was fantastic. So we took the chance and ordered. Our food was below par. The fried rice was greasy and tasteless. The other dishes were overcooked and the ingredients very low quality. We could not finish. Other customers: While we were there we heard other customers make comments about coming to this restaurant for years. Therefore I have to assume the restaurant is meeting a local need. But if you are looking for Chinese American food that meets minimum standards then look elsewhere.

Gave First Wok II a whirl after reading the exceptional yelp reviews, and here are my thoughts: If you are not pretentious about your Chinese food First Wok is a must try. It is not gourmet, it is not gastronomy, it is not high-end dining. What it is, however, is a very sweet, very fast Chinese restaurant that serves large quantifies of deliciously saucified dishes such as bean curd with garlic sauce and vegetable lo mein, as well as incredibly soft and fluffy white rice. I ordered over the phone and my order was hot and ready (and correct) when I arrived. I am a sucker for salty, saucy Chinese food and First Wok did not disappoint. I will be going back. Often. Bonus: there is a coupon on coupons4indy.com right now - $1 off $10, $2 off $20, etc.

Very good fast food Chinese place. Small cleab room with a few tables, pretty typical but what is really good is their customer service. Food is hot and fresh, good lunch menu. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Location: 3/5

I had a kid in the hospital and didn't want hospital food anymore. When I called the lady was very nice and patient with me since I had a lot of questions. She took her time and answered them for me. The delivery driver was also very nice and polite and he came up to our floor so I didn't have to leave for very long. The food was great too! When it arrived it was still hot and tasted good. This place was also cheaper than the place our nurse actually recommended to me so that was a major plus too!

The hotel suggested this place and am I glad they did! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful! When I asked if they would make me a tofu and veggie stir fry using the General Tso's sauce he told that that would be no problem at all. Before i left the restaurant they told me to bring it back if I didn't love it. I'll just say that this is possibly the best chinese dish I've ever had!!! Veggies and Tofu were cooked perfectly then covered with an amazing sauce! I was so impressed that I called the young man who helped me to tell him how great the meal was and to thank him again for his help. I'll be hitting this place every time we roll through Indy!

The food was made fast. We have had chicken and broccoli, chicken fried rice, chicken wings, Chicken egg too young, sweet and sour chicken, general tso chicken, and other chicken menu items. They automatically give you pork egg rolls so if you don't eat pork you must specify that you want vegetable egg rolls they won't ask. Also the people who answer don't speak perfect English so I'm not confident my order will be right until I get there to pick it up. When they deliver my order is usually always wrong.

I really enjoy it! The prices are good, the staff are friendly, and the food is not disappointing. I'll definitely continue eating there.

General Tso's ok. Egg roll blah, no flavor in crab Rangoon. And the most important part of delivery.....silverware and napkins (even requested them) not included in bag. This place has really fallen off in the last two years. AVOID!!

This is our "go to" place for Chinese take out. I have yet to be disappointed and we have tried several different dishes. My personal fav is the General Tso chicken combo platter. Comes with chicken, fried rice and an egg role. It's enough for 2 meals for me! Everything is reasonably priced and the customer service is always good. I wouldn't eat it there, however, it's in a shady part of town and the atmosphere is very uninviting. But don't let that stop you from ordering this delicious food and eating it in the comfort of your own home.

Super friendly service, but the food was so-so. The general tso's chicken and sesame chicken my gf was a bit dry, but quite tasty (I'd give 4 stars). The rice, egg rolls, and friend shrimp was way over cooked. Also, we ate in (just a couple small tables, which was fine), but the place just seemed dirty.

I read the reviews here and thought I'd give our normal Chinese delivery place a break. Sad to say - I'm sorry we did. The food was soggy and bland compared to its local competitors. We won't be ordering from here again.

Ordered delivery from here a few weeks ago. We are new to the area and want to find a "go to" place for basic Chinese grub. This place wasn't horrible, as the fried rice and crab rangoons were pretty tasty. Had the Lo mein and couldn't even eat more than a few forks full. It is a weird texture and not flavorful! Delivery was very slow, and driver forgot our drinks. He brought them to us, but they didn't come back to us until after we were done with dinner and no further compensation was offered. Not a bad place, but will continue our search.

You never know what to expect at 4.5 stars at 9 reviews... But here was my experience. Ordered at 6:10pm this evening. Shrimp Egg roll cause the other reviews said it was tasty. General Tso's because that's my safety dish (it's like a baseline of how good the other food will probably be). And vegetable fried rice. Came out at $16 delivered plus tip. Even though they quoted 45 min for delivery they were here in less than 30. Opened up the stuff from the paper and plastic bags and oh my lord was it looking amazing. This might be the best General Tso's I've has since Washington state - and there is a lot of great Chinese restaurants up there. It absolutely beat anything out that I've had in Oregon, Michigan, and California (for the price in California, there was better but not for $16). General Tso's chicken was cooked perfectly. I swear once it was off the wok they plated it, got in the car and wasted no time getting here. Breading was perfect, I like it lightly breaded myself which it was. The sauce was spicy which I loved. Nothing sucks like bland Chinese food. The vegetable fried rice was good. Baby corn, mushroom, broccoli, water chestnuts, and a tad bit of onion. Very satisfying. And the shrimp egg roll. Let's just say I hope we can do this again. Great job First Wok. When I'm in town for work I know exactly where I'm going and referring people when they want Chinese. Very authentic. Reasonably priced. Quick delivery.

Read the reviews and thought id try it out. I wasn't disappointed. Friendly staff ( seem like they are family) and great food. Tasted greated and more food than i could ever eat for $12. One of the employees even spoke in 3 languages while i was there. English Spanish and Cantonese (i think). I travel for business a lot so it was nice to change things up.

Now that was a great meal! Comfort food in the heartland must be soup, chicken and rice. Add them all up and you have a satisfied brain and full tummy. I love yelpers because they offer real reviews for those that enjoy food, so I dropped by based on the 4.5 rating Ooops...this is a hole in the wall with a nice view of the kitchen. Tables are clean, seats are clean, today's paper on the table and a small line up of take out orders. OK....look at the pictures...choose a number and wait for it...worst case I am out $8 While waiting I could hear a constant chop, chop, chop of the sous chef cutting up vegetables and the happy banter of cantonese among the wok masters Hot and Sour soup (in place of an egg roll). This was a different version than I am used too due to the difference in ingredients. More lettuce, cabbage based but still with tofu and bean sprouts. It did have some heat to it. Fried Rice was a yellow curry rice with smoky BBQ pork chunks and some vegetables. It was served hot and was fried in the wok with a touch of greasiness from the wok oil. General Tsao Chicken was a huge portion with a pile of saucy goop on top. It was a mix of white and dark meat. I am used a dry version with little sauce where this was a thicker batter with a more sticky thick sauce with heat in it from the 3 red peppers. Fresh broccoli florets for colour and nutrients. So what does all this tell me? Its made from scratch and not out of a can or the freezer. The chef makes it the way he was taught by his mother or mentor and that can only mean that you got to enjoy a home cooked chinese meal in someones home. Its amazing how first looks could prevent one from enjoying a culinary treat. Thanks to the awesome indy yelpers for finding a little bit of china town at 71st/Georgetown

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
