This place is pretty good. I have only had their lunch buffet. It is very authentic. Only one dish on the buffet that people will readily recognize from their local El Rodeo. All the other patrons have huge bowls of seafood, as I can feel is their specialty. Ask for tortillas so that you can make some tacos out of the various dishes on the menu. I would not say it is the best thing I have had, but it is worth a visit here and there since I work like 5 minutes from it. Try it and make up your mind.

A friend and I stopped here for an impromptu lunch. As I approached I was unsure what to expect as the exterior is a little run down but I am happy to say I was pleased with my experience. We were greeted promptly at the door by a smiling staff. Once we sat down and gave our drink orders, the fresh chips, ceviche and spicy green salsa arrived. The ceviche was so delicious it was gone before we ordered. They had lunch sized paella for $9.99 so I tried it. I have to say I was impressed. There was more seafood than rice in my serving and the size was not small. There was one mussel, one real crab leg but the rest of the dish was studded with bay scallops and tons of shrimp. Yes there was also some imitation crab too but there was less of that than real seafood. Also folks, remember we are in land locked Indiana, fresh seafood isn't easily accessible here. My lunch date had the fish tacos which were also delicious and huge. During lunch a gentleman approached our table and commented on how the paella is his dish. Turns out it is his family's place. We learned the story of how the family is from the Pacific Coast of Mexico where fresh seafood is plentiful. It was an enjoyable lunch and I will be back soon!

WOW!! What a place, mariscos estilo Nayarit. Spectacular flavor in every dish. Everything we ordered was excellent. Great presentation in every plate, followed up with greatness for the palette. Some plates were spicy but nothing overwhelming, it was "just right". The micheladas were the perfect combination too! This one topped my previous best mariscos of Indianapolis, & makes the top 3 in my mariscos book for the U.S. There was live music playing table side with 2 alternating bands to select from. Great overall experience.

Excellent food. Most of the menu is seafood of a variety of types and styles of preparation. Chips, salsa and ceviche brought to your table. Mariachi band playing on Sundays. Almost everyone eats seafood here although there are some other dishes on the menu, but those are in the back of the menu. Great food !

Excellent food. Very Fish oriented. The tilapia diable, mmfish tacos and steak tacos were all very good.

Quality of the food wasn't that great, although portion sizes were big the taste of the food is bland, it felt like they used the lowest quality of food, my spicy shrimp platter was ok because it was spicy and did have a kick but the shrimp itself was rubbery and tasteless. The shrimp nachos was ok, but the chips was too oily, I'm not an expert in Mexican food but maybe that's how it is.

Pretty good, like all the shrimp selections. Real shrimp ceviche, my lady enjoyed the fish ceviche and shrimp nachos

First, be forewarned that most servers speak minimal English, so if you need to special order something, be ready to dust off your high school Spanish. If you are ordering off the menu, they will look upon you kindly if you just sheepishly point. I was disappointing with the service this time though. Our server was very inattentive, not checking on us, leaving our water glasses empty, and taking a very long time to bring our check. The food did NOT disappoint. The free chips and salsa are just as hot as I remember, and the crab ceviche is still delicious. I ordered the queso and it is the standard melted white cheese dip. Nothing special, but tasty. The steak tacos are overflowing with meat. There was a lot, A LOT of fat (not just bits of fat but actual chunks of gristle) but even after dissecting out nearly half of meat, there was still plenty left to fill the taco. What was left was very good, but it was so much effort. Next time I will try the chicken.

AMAZING!!! The only place in Indy that specializes in primarily Mexican seafood cuisines. They served ceviche with the complimentary chips & salsa. The chips were tasty along with a large order of queso dip - YUM. I haven't even tried the lunch buffets served Monday through Friday (seafood on Friday) yet either! I saw another patron served a Seafood Molcahete and was surprised at the size and amounts of seafood. I was thoroughly impressed with the service, taste, and cost. I have already planned my next visit. Also, their horchatas are pretty good too (not my first choice but would drink another).

The seafood empanadas are delicious! And the micheladas don't hurt either! So far the best Latino seafood in Indy!

On the weekend, this spot is legit, in the fullest sense of the word. Our latino neighbors find their way to this great place to celebrate, relax, and enjoy los frutas del mar. Things are very busy from 8pm on Friday and before Saturday mass. The food doesn't fly out, since it takes time to prepare it well. I recommend the snapper and the house specialty ceviche. The shrimp nachos are very good and not what you'd expect from the term "nacho", and the half-and-half (langostinos and prawns) is superb. Let's talk about the service. SLOW DOWN. This is a place to relax, eat great food, drinks some Pacificos and margaritas, and just enjoy yourself. Now, understand this isn't a place looking to flip your table and get another rotund butt in your still warm seat. It's not that kind of joint. It's real. To be perfectly honest, if you don't love seafood, think proper Mexican cuisine tastes like Taco Bell, or are uncomfortable being the only non-Latino in a room, then you should avoid this place or come expecting to grow and be delighted by what you learn. Of course, this is just a buffet during the week, so you should set your expectations accordingly. I went to the old location for lunch some time ago, and it was adequate for a buffet. I've had better Mexican food, but it was considerably more expensive and remote: Frida in Beverly Hills. I love this place. Their last location was an old Captain D's, and the new one was a Denny's, I think. It's nice to see vibrant, new life breathed into once decrepit locations. But, really, it's about the experience, and the food speaks for itself.

Authentic Mexican seafood in Indy about blew my mind when I found this joint. I was more excited when I h are they had not only a lunch buffet but a seafood lunch buffet on Fridays. They food was so so but I was quite disappointed when I went to.the seafood buffet. I complained of the mussels being EXTREMELY OVERLY dry, the waiter said he would have them changed but never did. The ceviche on the buffet was just soaking in lime and too citrus like for my taste. I.compalined and received no retribution for my complaints. Boo. Went a second time got the quail entree... Overcooked.ordered the seafood pot that had hardly any octopus and some.imitation crab meat in the mix. Barf. No mention of that on the menu. It wasn't too bad. Just not what I had expected from the reviews. On top of that the Bathroom was foul and triffiling... I'll give it one more go. BUT ONLY ONE. They say third time is a charm.

Not really impressed with the food. There was not a Buffet as people had posted so I got a couple of appetizers and they were rather bland tasting I wouldn't come back here

I came here last night with a friend and I was very pleasantly surprised. This is a seafood specialty Mexican restaurant. I knew that I would be in for a treat because my friend and I were the only non-native Spanish speakers in the whole place and it was pretty busy (usually a good sign if it's popular with locals). We started off with chips and some kind of crab meat pico de gallo, which was really good-I could eat a lot of this especially since it was free. I also made sure to order the shrimp nachos, which were also stellar and surprising due to the large amount of shrimp scattered throughout the nachos. I was also surprised by the quality of the shrimp as it was really good. The shrimp nachos also had guacamole, pico de gallo, and jalapenos. We also ordered the Molcajete San Blas-the house specialty. This was also very good and it came out bubbling hot, jam-packed with seafood (including 3 crab legs, imitation crab, 2 mussels, 4 oysters, 1 crawfish, along with lots of shrimp and octopus) in some kind of hot spicy broth. The portion size of this entree is enough for two. I would order this again if I went, but I wished that it came with rice or something to mix the broth with. All in all this is probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in Indianapolis that I've been to and I would definitely go again-especially for the shrimp nachos!

Lunch time offers a buffet. This is good but sit down and venture out to pick one of the dishes from a table next to you. The huge bowls of seafood soup, steaming with aluminum foil wrapped tortillas will make the buffet look like child's play. Fish tacos, shrimp tacos both excellent. Menu is in Spanish but pictures on back to help with selections. Almost didn't post this because I hate to think it will become mainstream!

This place is really excellent...with the unfortunate demise of Huachinango...now occupied by Caracas Arepas....this is THE place to go for Mexican Seafood. Every Item I have tried has been excellent...with my favorites being the Shrimp cocktail....do NOT think St. Elmos....and the seafood soups. and the ceviche...as your "free" salsa.. While I am not a lunch buffet maven....have been here once for lunch....quite good ! An incredible value !

I went there for lunch today (Friday) with a friend. We had the buffet and were pleased with the variety and the quality. There were a variety of different dishes with two different seafood soups, deep fried fish, nopales with eggs, pan fried shrimp, ceviche, salads, a variety of condiments, salsas and guacamole as well as lots of other things. While I wouldn't call it spectacular, the variety and quality was great for the price (about $10 per person). It was mostly a Hispanic crowd and was full by the time we left around 1pm. The service was friendly and the drinks were refilled in a timely way. The signage is not great but it looks as though it is in a building that used to be a Captain D's or a Long John Silvers. I'll definitely go back!

This seafood speciality Mexician restaurant is filled with both great food and good times. I've been here twice, just to make sure that my first impression wasn't a one time fluke. No fluke. Its the real deal. Starting with cevice as their table salsa (free) to the house special, a bowl of seafood in a broth that makes your taste buds sing. They don't need Anglos to keep the doors open as the local Hispanic community was in full force, from dates, to three generations of families taking their time to savor the flavors of the house specialities. North siders, east siders or southside folks, warm up the car, take your friends and be prepared for a meal you'd only find at this special Indy restaurant. Would give it five stars, but that I hold for truly special dining experiences.

I've got to say again, what a find!! Made-to-order Guacamole, "to die for" Molcajete, and Ceviche combo were all awesome. We have returned often. Love the karaoke nights too!

Great little Mexican place with an attractive lunch buffet and very friendly, welcoming staff. The guacamole and pico de gallo on the buffet were awesome! Much of the rest was somewhat uninspired -- iceberg lettuce resting in water, decent enchiladas that looked like something your mom might make from "Taste of Home" -- but the selection is ample and attractive. I definitely plan to go back for dinner to try the seafood.

I go in to have my motorcycle worked on and they offer me a loaner bike, around the corner rolls a 2009 K1300S, the top of the line BMW motorcyle, "you are going to loan me that"?. Well 3/4 of a tank gas latter I am at El Puerto de San Blas, having wanted to try, thought why not tonight? The first person to sit me at a table doesn't speak English, now I am really excited, I get to practice my really bad Spanish. Before I have even looked at the menu, out to the table comes a small taste of Ceviche and home made chips, and it's really good! So I order Ceviche and out comes a portion to serve a small army, I eat about 1/4 of it and my Horchata and I am off for more riding. Excited to go back and try the Shrimp dinners.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
