El Meson Mexican Restaurant Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Let's see, this place used to be a favorite. Must be new owner/management. Chips are often stale and IF you have more than a basket or two they charge you for the extra (salsa included). {First Mexican place I've been to that does that}. The prices have gone up and the quantity and quality of food keeps decreasing. There are a couple servers that don't seem to fit in because they are actually nice and friendly. There are a few that seem pissed off that they must wait on you, never smile or say thank you. I'm done after several years of going there at least once a week. Do yourself a favor and keep driving.

Slowest service... Took about 10 minutes just to gets drinks ordered for 2 people. Chips are thin and greasy. Cheese dip was good. Guac is not fresh and the ground beef was mush... Waste of calories

Super good! Fast service, great menu, delicious chips and salsa. The best El Meson in the city by far and we've tried them all. Can't beat it for the price.

I usually come here with family or on special occasions. I usually order their chimichangas (the dos order) I love the large servings of beans and rice. Sometimes the dishes aren't as clean as I like. But the food quality is good. Nice decor inside too. Like traditional Mexican restaurants.

It's your standard, run of the mill Ameri-mex. Everything was just decent. The service was fine. Servers were very friendly with my kids. My daughters favorite thing in THE WHOLE WORLD is queso blanco dip. This queso was SO, SO good but quite a bit to spicy for my nine year old. I loved it but she had to battle though. If your on the Westside and craving some junky mex, give it a go!

I have been to other El Meson locations, and this one seems the worst in terms of food quality. Service was good, food came out fast, but it just wasn't tasty. Also, in a nearly deserted restaurant, they seated us right next to a table of ten, so we had to shout over them to be heard during our meal. Skip it.

I have been here twice and the service was friendly and quick both times. Complementary chips and salsa arrived at the table right away. The meal prices and portions are very good! The menu is pretty extensive with 6-7 options under the vegetarian section. The meals were done and at our table in approx. 10 minutes, which I think it pretty quick. I would not say that the food was outstanding but I would say that it was good! I had a combo with a bean burrito, chalupa and tostada- it came with rice and beans.

After reading the negative and low reviews, I almost thought for 5 minutes standing in front of the door and finally stepped in to try out the food. I dropped by there for early dinner on Sunday evening. There were hardly around 10 customers in the restaurant and I was getting more suspicious about what I am getting into. I dined there all alone by myself for a quick dinner and by the way this was my first traditional Mexican restaurant. The waiter was really cool and served me well. He checked if everything was great with me three times throughout. As soon as I got seated, they served me tortilla chips with salsa as a complimentary. The menu has so many items and I finally went ahead with Pollo loco real. It was great. The service was damn quick. I got my order within 5 minutes. The dish was served with delicious Spanish tomato rice, tortillas, lettuce, sour fresh cream, guacamole, mashed baked black beans, grilled chicken pieces, cheese over it. I absolutely loved the dish and it was so satisfyingly full. The place wasn't lively at all because of really less crowd and the ambience was not so great. Looks like some take out place. There were Spanish songs playing. The experience was not so bad. I enjoyed it. But I don't think I will go back to this restaurant again. Ambience - 2/5 Service - 5/5 Food - 4/5

...ALERT...Since this review, El Meson is under new ownership and it appears they are correcting the decor, food, and service. I will take a moment to review this location again in the future. I love Mexican food and I am not sure this qualifies as either Mexican nor food. The plus side is the place has a very festive, colorful, and modern decor. There is usually plenty of wait staff to serve/take orders and the owner is a really nice and pleasant guy. They are heavy handed on the top-shelf margaritas too. The price is right for the majority of the menu items. The down side is there is not enough space to type it all here, so I will recap. The menu selection is too large. By that I mean, I always question any restaurant can produce great quality food with a menu that covers over 75+ dishes. How can they keep all those ingredients fresh to scale their menu options? The food is bland and reminds me of school lunches on Mexican day. The rice/arros is lifeless, bloated, and amateurish. The beans/frijoles are grayish, brown wall spackling at best. The chips taste like they were made quite a bit ahead of time along with the salsa and guacamole. The main dishes lack any creativity, flair, distinction, or the slightest element that suggests they were not taken from a frozen section of the grocery store and microwaved on site. Come on amigos...its' MEXICAN FOOD and it is your hallmark to prepare and serve this food with some respect. Make the tortilla chips, salsa, and guacamole fresh at least. After all, they are low food cost and simple to prepare. Mexican food can be beautiful, flavorful, and memorable. It is supposed to be zesty, spicy, and FRESH. I would not recommend this place even on a budget.

Always friendly service, and the food is always good. A standard Mexican joint that is very popular in the area. This ensures everything is going to be really fresh.

I like the chimichanga & the sopapilla. Normally pretty fast for lunch, but tonight @ 8, I was here for about 10 min before being seated. Took another 20 to get waited on & never did get checked on. All that said, this was the exception. Normally, I get in & out in 30 min or less & they did have a couple of big groups.

This particular establishment had good quality mexican food for the area. It was significantly more authentic than what you will find at the wannabe upscale, mexican-fusion places scattered around the downtown area. You can at least converse with the wait staff here in order to brush up on your Spanish skills. My only qualm with this location is that the food wasn't quite as flavorful as what I have received at several of the other locations within this chain. The queso was on par with what you expect of an authentic mexican restaurant, save the lack of finely diced jalapenos. The tacos were good but he chicken seemed a bit dry. The rice also wasn't as flavorful as what I have come to expect from mexican rice. However, the food was still good and this is the best mexican place I have found on the West side. Because of that, if you reside nearby and are craving mexican, I would recommend coming here. That being said, if you are willing to commute, you will find the location in Southport to be superior to this one.

This is easily my favorite Mexican place on the Westside. The food is always of great quality when I'm there. The burritos are one of my favorite items on their menu; the meat isn't too greasy and there's plenty of it inside. The quesadillas are also very good. The chicken, especially when grilled, is fantastic. The staff is also very friendly and quick to your table. The decor is...a little bright, but that doesn't take away from the delicious food. Overall, I definitely recommend this place.

Stay away! The salsa looks good but has no flavor. None of the meat was flavored and the chicken was dry. The guacamole was packaged. AT A MEXICAN RESTAURANT!!!!

Definitely the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in Indy. I can't find anything wrong with this place: it has an awesome, colorful decor, fast service, and delicious food for a cheap price. Their mexican rice and beans that come with several of their entrees can't be beat. I would also highly recommend their fried ice cream - it's basically heaven on a platter. Really, this restaurant deserves 5 stars, but it just falls a little short of the "Oh my God, this is one of the best meals of my life" reaction that I have with my other five-star-rated restaurants. Still, this place is top-notch and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I use to think this was by far the best Mexican place to enjoy. However, the very last time I was at this place. They charged me for a small bowl of sour cream. When I asked them why they charged me. The server gave,e a rude explantion. So I haven't been back. I didn't get a drink just water. I am trying to cut back on soda. It's sad they did this so I haven't been back. If they would have given me a different answer or take the charge off my bill. I have never heard of a place that would charge for ketchup, mustard or sour cream before. Has anyone experience this?

High school cafeteria slop. The meat and beans in the gigante burrito were mixed together into some kind of paste, and had absolutely no taste. Taco bell has more texture and flavor. Completely coating the burrito in cholula didn't seem to help at all. Also, the gigante burrito wasn't very gigante - it was pretty small. 2 stars for speed, though.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
