Best sandwich spot in Indianapolis, possibly in entire Midwest. I cant think of any places even in Chicago that are as good and reliable. Seriously. Look at my other reviews- I was raised on NY delis, and travel often for work. I always try to find the best non-chain food spots in each city, and Educated Sandwich wins Indy hands-down. You aren't going to find fancy crazy exotic sandwiches here...just the basics executed flawlessly, which is why I love it. My favorite sandwich is the Club. Basic sandwich, but as I said the execution is excellent. Perfect toasted bread, fresh lettuce and tomato, perfectly sliced ham and turkey in the correct thickness and proportions and just the right amount of mayo. Even their Reuben was legit- see attached pic! And on the side- instead of getting a bag of chips, try the potato salad- not too much mayo and delicious. This most recent time I visited I told the owner Darrell how much I loved his sandwiches and learned that he has owned it with his wife since 2006. It baffles me that there is not a line out the door during lunchtime. Next time 11:30 rolls around and you are considering Subway, Au Bon Pan, Quiznos, Jimmy Johns etc....stop being a fool and come here ASAP.

A big line is a mixed blessing. It shows that most likely there is a reason to make waiting worthwhile, then again it's a line and who likes those? Fortunately, the staff at Educated Sandwich understands how to get a line moving and keep it that way. Despite being behind several people, I was in and out within 15 minutes with two sandwiches to go. The Egg Salad was good. Not mind-blowing, but good. And my wife enjoyed her Greek wrap for two meals, so the portion size was generous.

Went for lunch, and was surprised how busy they were, but they are very efficient. I ordered the reuben which was hot and delicious. I also had a cookie which was also really good. I'll be going back, basic food done right at reasonable prices. It's exactly what I look for in my lunch spots.

This unassuming spot is one of downtown Indy's best kept lunch secrets. The food and service is always consistent and good. I usually get the Greek Chicken wrap. Have been meaning to branch out, but why mess with something you know is good? Highly recommend this place!

A little hidden gem of a sandwich shop in downtown Indy. Definitely worth finding! A friend had been raving about their egg salad sandwich for a few months, so I finally gave it a try. I went during the lunch hour on a weekday and they were very busy. The line moved quickly and I was out the door with my carryout order in no time. The staff was very friendly and the establishment was very clean and inviting. The environment was relaxed yet also had a professional feel to it. Definitely okay for a business lunch. I ordered a tomato soup, egg salad sandwich and a broccoli salad side. All were outstanding. They put dill in their egg salad, which adds an amazing flavor to it. In fact, the egg salad and broccoli salad were so good that I took note of all known ingredients and tried to replicate them at home the following weekend! If you work downtown or are visiting downtown, I highly recommend giving Educated Sandwich a try!

Stopped in for a quick lunch while in Indy on business. Very nice service and about the best egg salad sandwich I have ever had. Just like momma used to make! Wish I worked nearby so I could eat here regularly.

Wrap was great. Worth the 30 minute wait to get it? Probably not. Staff were friendly enough, but everything was slow moving and disorganized, and I only had four people infront of me. I was impressed that they did get my order right though. But I won't be back until the day I have more than an hour to kill at lunchtime and want to spend it standing in line the entire time.

I came in at 7am to try to grab breakfast. Their selection is pretty limited but they hit all the main points. The service was really speedy and very nice. I ordered the breakfast BLT. I'm not sure what makes it a "breakfast" BLT as it tasted like a regular BLT. It was however a really great BLT and the price was right. The bread was toasted and was lovely. Also it was still good when I got it to my office about 30 mins after I ordered it. I would def reccomend it to anyone who works on or near the circle.

The club was excellent. Combine that with the grape kool aid... FANTASMATIC!!! The staff was super friendly and super helpful. Beware, they close at 2, so take that into consideration. Luckily we got in just before they closed. I felt bad that it was so close to closing time but they were super friendly and encouraged us to stay and ensured us we were not a problem for them. Two thumbs way up.

Tried the Educated Sandwich for lunch today. I'm glad I did! I had a chicken salad sandwich...it was wonderful! I love chicken salad! My friend for the french dip and she said it was one of the best french dips she's had. Will be visiting again soon! It was only a block away from my building, I'm kind of sad I hadn't tried this place sooner!

The sandwiches are pretty good and unique, didn't wow me. You order it at counter and pick it up. The staff are not very friendly.

Super friendly, serving large and tasty sandwhiches. Some classics, and some unique spins, too.

They definitely nail all of the core sandwiches quite well. Very solid, well run place, I work on the other end of the block, so usually grab to go. Place seems full of hard core regulars.

Wonderful little known cafe across from the Capitol Bld on Capitol Street in the ISTA Bld. Nice selection of breakfast and lunch dishes with a daily special that helps strech your dining dollar. They also have a wide variety of flavored coffees. Each day has a different selection of soup including a vegitarian offering. The Chicken Velvet is the same receipe from the Ayres Tea Room. The staff is friendly and attentive and will soon be calling you by name. So come for the food but eat in for the friends.

Love this place! We went for breakfast while waiting for a GenCon event to start. It's such a nice, simple atmosphere. Love the little bar in the front where you can see the city & people watch! Everyone rushing into work. The sandwiches are delicious, nice & greasy just like a breakfast sandwich should be! Coffee choices are great too. Just a great little place that we will definitely be returning this year for GenConIndy!

This place is definitely hidden - it's across the street from the capitol (and on Capitol St.) in the Indiana Teachers Association building (I guess that's why they're called the "Educated" Sandwich?) but definitely worth it for a great local lunch spot. Every time I go there my sandwiches are made to order, fresh, and have really high quality ingredients. Service is good, though if you want to know what actually comes on the sandwiches you'll have to ask - the menu doesn't give a description. The prices are VERY reasonable, especially for the quality of food - the last time I was there I got a wrap, chips, and a cookie (homemade, you can tell) for $8.15 including tax. I think that's how much fast food is up to these days and this is a much better buy. The inside is very unassuming but no one is there for the ambience or decor, just the food! PS. The coconut macaroon cookies are DELICIOUS.

I had the egg salad, toasted on wheat. It's the best egg salad sandwich I have had in years. Not too much mayo and a little bit of dill. Usually I find this type of sandwich to mucky and lacking in flavor. I will be back. Plus, it was less than $6.00.

This is a hidden gem of a sandwich shop in downtown Indy. A small shop in the ISTA building, it has never been busy when I've visited, so the service is pretty quick. The quality is amazing. I highly recommend the Napa Valley sandwich-SO GOOD. I haven't personally had it, but I hear the Chicken Velvet soup which they typically have on Thursdays is also very good. Price is reasonable, sandwich and a drink for about $8 is a great price for a freshly made, delicious sandwich. I will definitely return to this place again and again for its amazing food, great prices and convenient location.
