I had been to the Delhi Palace on the northside quite a few times, as well as India Palace and Shalimar, but somehow had never made it to this location before this week despite the fact that it is walking distance from work. I think I have a new reason to at least once in a while forgo my usual lunch at the desk while continuing to work. A coworker and I walked over and when we arrived at about 11:45AM, there were still some tables open. By 12:15, there was a line out the door; we were glad we got a bit of a jump on the lunch crowd! We had the buffet, and, in my opinion, this was definitely the best of the buffets offered by this local chain. The variety was great! The curried goat and all of the vegetarian dishes were wonderful! Everything was extremely fresh and hot. Dishes on the buffet were replenished regularly, and the staff did a great job of keeping up with the crowd. The dining area is much smaller than the other restaurants in this chain. If I had a bigger group, I think I'd probably get in the car and drive to India Palace, but for a quick lunch break this will now be my go to place when I'm craving Indian food!

This was my first experience at an Indian restaurant and we visited for their lunch buffet. The atmosphere was steady, but not loud or overly busy - clean and organized. The buffet had some great entrees and I enjoyed everything I sampled, unfortunately I can't recall the names. Would I return? Yes, just to invite others for the unique experience. However, I'd like to visit during dinner when it's an evening crowd.

An all round positive experience. The food was of fantastic quality though the service could have been a little more welcoming. I have eaten here a few times and I thoroughly enjoy the palak paneer. An overall good experience. Two thumbs up in my book.

Great place and great option for quick lunch. Helpful Hint: if you order for take-out, take note that one of the guys who sometimes answers the phone says yes to everything you say then gets the order wrong (he's a non-native speaker). Just make sure to ask them to repeat it and you should be all set. Otherwise, can't go wrong! Especially with shrimp tikka-masala.

I went to Delhi Palace today with my coworkers. I must say the quality of the food was much better than when I went last time. Hopefully, that was just a bad day. Otherwise, I feel that this place is okay, and definitely a spot to hit up for some cheap indian buffet lunch, and I've upped my rating to 3 stars.

My tandoori mixed grill tasted nice but was overdone. Everyone else in my group seemed to enjoy dinner. Clean. A number of folks grabbed takeout while we were there.

This place is a hidden gem! Finally went here after moving to the downtown area. We went for the lunch buffet on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated by our waiter and was provided with a pitcher of water. And on the right of you is a self serve buffet area. It may look small but the 25 items or maybe less will fill you up! I never had indian food before and loved every single thing here. It must be all the spice and curry. Can't get enough of it. Didn't know half the stuff I ate, but it was all good. My favorite was the chicken tandoori. This place is perfect for vegetarians, they seem to have a good handful of vegetarians dish and it tasted good maybe cause it tasted like meat somehow. It's best to go on a weekend the parking lot isn't packed full like it is on a weekday so you will be sparing yourself of looking for a spot.

Very good food, quiet and relaxing atmosphere. I had the lunch buffet, and for under $10 I will definitely be back. Spicy, well seasoned, authentic Indian food.

Food is good. The service is great. The staffs are friendly and nice. The lunch buffet is my favorite and will come back again.

This is the first place I had Indian food in Indy. The food tastes good, and the owner owns Shilmar in Broad Ripple too. Their buffets are nice, and they have a great variety to choose from. They have a stamp card, you get stamped for each meal, and when you reach ten you get a free meal - this is what I recall, I might be wrong Get the chicken tikka masala. I think they can work better around their spices, its good but not that delicious.

Being from Cincinnati and having your pick of great indian restaurants around the university heights area, I'm always a bit skeptical when I try indian food out of town. I've been told by out of towners that Cincinnati has the best around, and it's pretty damn good. So after a long day of work, gym, and cleaning, I found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. I got in a little before closing 9:30 on Thursday and the place was obviously empty. I expected the man working the register to be a little peeved that someone was coming in as they were closing, but he was quite friendly. I ordered the chicken vindaloo for 11.99 medium spicy to go, and my order was out in 5 minutes and I was on my way home to chow down. The interior of this place seemed very clean and well kept, and I noticed the empty buffet calling my name for another time. I got back to the apartment and noticed how much food you get, I could smell it in the elevator and my mouth already started to water. It was mounded up over the top of the plate and started to fall off onto the table! The first thing I noticed is that the sauce was greenish-brown which is usually indicative of being cooked without draining the yogurt, (which is how I like to make it) and heavily spiced, and very little cream. I also noticed that the chicken had tons of ginger, so much that you could actually crunch it. This didn't bother me as I love ginger. Was quite spicy, and well seasoned. If you like chicken tikka masala with orange sauce you're probably not going to like this dish, but it suited my tastes and the meat was very tender. Next time for a dine in experience!!. 5 on taste, and portions, 3 on price. Will be back!!

Simply some good stuff. Same owners as Shalimar in Broad Ripple and you can tell, quality and flavor is always good. I have only visited Delhi Palace to pick up take out for dinner. I ordered the chicken curry with mushrooms and was impressed with how quickly they got my order together and also how much food I got for the price. I had leftovers for two more meals. Three total. I am hoping to go back soon to experience the lunch buffet. That way I'll be able to sample a variety of what they have to offer.. Definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys Indian food. The best Indian in the downtown Indy area.

Great Indian food! Service is quick and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the chicken tikka masala. They also have an awesome lunch buffet that allows you to try a little of everything!

Plain and simple - it sucks ! Indians would save themselves some disappointments by staying away.

First let me start by saying that my experience here has always been extremely positive. The waitstaff has always been extremely attentive and the cleanliness of the restaurant has always been on point. The food always seems hot and fresh for the lunch buffet and your drink is sure to be refilled promptly. If you enjoy the ambience and flavor of India this is certainly your go to place. For $9 per person this Indian buffet can't be beat.

  • Beth W.

I never knew this place existed. It's a reasonably priced place to get authentic Indian food. If you ever wanted to try good food with curry, then this is the place. I love the lunch buffet here. You can sample all their best dishes for one low price. They have a nice salad bar with fresh fruit, and some desserts too. It's kid friendly and they offer take out too

  • Mahrukh K.

Best dishes: vegetable pakora, veg manchurian, saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, naan, gulab jamun Dishes better at other restaurants: tandoori chicken, samosas, kabobs, chili chicken Their lunch buffet is pricey but fresh and pretty good. Whenever we order food for takeout or dinner it isn't as good as it is in the buffet for some reason.

  • Jade C.

Solid Lunch Buffet $8.99, 7 days a week from 11am-3pm! Not much to say as this is your average (yet amazing as always) Indian Buffet. Great variety of flavorful dishes, clean restaurant, attentive staff - overall impressed.

    (4)
  • Hassan A.

Good decor. Above average service. Their lunch buffet is solid. The chicken tikka masala is a staple of any indian buffet and the one here does not disappoint. The naan is good as well. The rice is good. They even have gulab jaman for desert, which is not very common for these buffets. Can't go wrong with this selection and you will leave in a food coma

  • Franklin D.

Uh oh... what happened? Actually it seems like maybe they changed owners, or at least they have a different cook now. The food does not seem the same anymore. Perhaps it is just my imagination, but the food is not tasting as good as it has in the past.

Excellent buffet with a very nice variety of dishes and really strong flavors. I eat a lot of Indian food and this is amongst the best I've had.

Great food and excellent service. We sat outside on the patio, which was nice. It's well-priced and our waiter was extremely attentive. We happened to stop on our way through Indiana so we weren't sure what to expect. Everything was cooked well and very tasty!

  • Dan J.

Having been a regular since the place opened, the overall quality of food and experience here has decreased the past 2-3 months. During today's visit we were no longer offered complimentary Papadum, the Chicken Tikka Masala my guest and I each ordered was dry (sauce very thick), the chicken was cut up into tiny pieces as if it were leftover from another dish (in the past the chicken was served in much larger, fresher pieces), and we no longer were able to obtain a stamp for our frequent visitor card because we used a coupon (even though we had been receiving stamps for the same meals ordered with the same coupon since Day 1). Sadly we will no longer be regulars here.

Amazing!! Awesomest!! Best Indian food in Indianapolis!! And this is coming from yours truly- an Indian who is born and brought up in Mumbai, India! The buffet is best worth for money! And the best dish is shrimp! Of course try the chicken tikka masala. The best part is location and the amazing service. They are really fast at service. It will be even better of they added home delivery..

What a gem! Every bite was delicious. The service was great, and the price was easy on the pocket. All this in an unassuming strip mall.

So after I leave the IUPUI campus, they finally decide to have more ethnic dining options within walkable distance. We were reunited this Saturday. After a grueling exam, crammed in the lecture hall seats, with half-sized pull out tables hunched over for hours - it was chow time for a celebratory finish. Delhi Palace is in that nook of eateries on Indiana Ave. Being a frequent of Amber on the northside, we decided to give this new lunch buffet a try. I was a little confused upon walking in whether to seat myself or have the waiter seat me since there's no little booth there. Just to let you know ahead of time - a waiter does seat you, just that he's running around tending to things before he notices your puzzled look. They have a good sized buffet table with both vegetarian and meaty staples. They also had this delicious lentil soup with hints of cilantro. Slurpin' yum! Garlic or plain naan is self-serve on the buffet trays, so they're not as great as the ones that come off piping hot as you order at Amber, but still decent. If you're a goat fan, they have this stew that's loaded with chunks of goat vs. other places where meat is sparse and bones are plenty. As for the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer - they were a little on the bland side for me, but if you like less spice infused dishes - then it'd be perfect for you. Would I come back here? Of course, to get my goat stew and naan fix. Or when I feel more veggy for vegetable pakoras and lentil soup. Can't beat a ~$9/pp AYCE buffet!

This review is kind of an addition to the review of Shalimar and India Palace because the owners are the same. Delhi Palace is the answer to my prayer for Indian food near campus! The opening was not advertised very well, but when I found out this place had opened, I was ecstatic. This place has about the same selection as Shalimar and India Palace (more choices than Shalimar, about the same amount as India Palace). This is a great option for those on campus, but the parking for lunch is a NIGHTMARE! This is not the restaurant's fault, but it is a pain to get a spot. I will definitely be braving the traffic to return! YAY, INDIAN FOOD ON CAMPUS!!!!

Let me tell you, this place is nice. Hey, it's Indian, so the decor and layout is a little sterile. But the food is GREAT and the two guys that serve and take orders...the waiters, are TERRIFIC! So personable. So nice. Once guy is the boss I think, the other is from Punjab. They remember your face and orders if you come in more than once or twice. The combination fo GREAT food and GREAT service keeps me coming back time and time again. Actually, I never liked Indian food until tried this place. I took some Indian friends there and they too said the food was authentic and delicious. I also asked them id they were impressed with the service, and they said so-so. I don't know why, but it seems so true, that Indians often really dislike other Indians. I don't get it but I feel that they could have served us on golden plates and my friends still would have been so indifferent. ha, ha. But hey, my review stands tall. I'll keep going back as long as the food stays good and the two guys out front keep being the wonderful hosts that they are. Bravo!!!!

They had many types of naan available. I was so excited to satisfy my Indian food craving. The place only had a couple of tables at dinner time, but hopefully that's only because it was a weekday. Service was alright, food was excellent.

Two words, amazing buffet. I highly recommend a visit if you ae feeling very hungry for flavorful and tasty food between the times of 11am-3pm. For lunch buffet, the price is around 10 bucks for all you can eat. Being Indian, I found the food authentic and delicious. If you're not going for the buffet, it can become pricey and the serving size not as plentiful.

I write this while in a food coma from eating way too much takeaway from Delhi Palace. My husband and I have been sampling the Indian restaurants in the Indy area and I'm pretty sure we've found a winner. Living on the east side there isn't any Indian options available. At all. So this being the easiest to get to/in/out of, I thought we'd give it a shot. I ordered quite a bit- Tandoori chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Biryani, and Onion Bhajees. Holy crap good. Like, I'm now in a food coma and we still have a ton of leftovers good. The tandoori chicken was amazing- even my picky 5 year old liked it (and that says A LOT). The biryani was decent, and if I could hook up an IV drip of the tikka masala I would. It's THAT good. The bhajees didn't stay crispy for the ride back to Irvington, but they were still pretty tasty nonetheless. The restaurant was clean, and I definitely took note of the buffet carts- because I WILL definitely be back, hands down. I think I've found my favorite Indian takeout... sweet!

They have a place up on West 86th plus also own India Palace and Shalimar. Went there for dinner. The place is amazingly clean and attractive. Nice selection on the menu, friendly staff. The place was pretty empty on a Tuesday night, though. Several people came in for carry-out. I usually think the lunch buffets can be kind of average, but for dinner I think this place might be a little overpriced, and although the food was really good, I am not sure it is appreciably better than it might be from Shalimar's buffet. (The buffet set-up at Delhi Palace, though, looks quite large, so they should do great business from IUPUI and IU and Wishard hospitals.)

Delicious! The same owner as Shalimar (Broad Ripple) and India Palace (West Side). The food was fresh and tasty. Very vegetarian friendly too. Great lunch buffet for under $10.

My fiance and I recently had dinner here and were pleasantly surprised. The location was very intimate with dim lighting and soft music. As always, I ordered the chicken tikka masala and a side of naan. It was delicious. Lots of food - good for leftovers! We had a coupon that gave us 1/2 off on one of our entrees, so that helped with the price. We want to go back soon to try the lunch buffet!

  • Ben R.

We first tried Delhi Palace last summer because we had an Entertainment Book coupon and we are now regulars. The food is always excellent and the servers are very polite. I have tried most of the vegetarian options but particularly like the Malai Kofta and the Punjabi Bhaji. The vegetarian and non vegetarian thali are both very good. The prices are very reasonable. They are also open till 9:30 on weekdays.

  • Rich B.

I stopped by to try their lunch buffet. I wasn't surprised that the buffet offered similar faire as India Palace and Shalimar since they are owned by the same people, in fact the buffet was about as large as the huge one at India Palace! The spices were perfect for each dish and everything tasted freshly prepared and authentic. My only slight complaint was that the Gulab Jamun was a little soggy - usually they're more firm but they still tasted as good as other places. But that won't stop me from coming back! Service was prompt and friendly, water glasses were kept full and the check came exactly when needed. Look for coupons in the Val Pak to save a buck on the buffet!

Just finished my meal from this restaurant with my boyfriend. We're in town for Gen Con so we ordered delivery for dinner to our hotel. I had the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan and my boyfriend had the keema mattar, also with the bread. We also ordered the tandoori appetizer which my boyfriend thought was the best part of the meal. First the good: Delivery was surprisingly speedy, which was good because it was a long drive and we were hungry. The garlic naan was also pretty good, and each order (we got two) was very large. They also don't appear to charge for delivery so that's nice. The bad: I think their delivery option is new, because the entire process was a nightmare. In fact, the restaurant would have gotten 3 stars if the guy on the phone wasn't so awful. Now, this is my first time eating here and I have never been to the actual place, so I don't know how their service is, but ordering from their menu online was a hassle. I started the call by saying I wanted to place an order for delivery and started to order my food. When I got to my "Non-vegetarian thali" there was apparently a lot of confusion since he was saying something different back to me, and when I kept saying the item was on their menu they said no, they don't have that and the menu online is wrong. Fine. So I had to order something else, he repeated it back to me, and then told me to pick it up in 20 minutes. I said I wanted delivery and then he asked me where I was and told him. Then he immediately hung up. No total, no time estimate, just hung up. When I got my food and paid I noticed every item cost at least $1 more than what it said online. BUT I'm looking at their online menu now 2 hours later from when I ordered, and not only is the appetizer I ordered gone and menu item descriptions changed, but all the prices have been raised and the non-veg thali is still there with a new, even more detailed description. So they do have it, or changed their minds? Whatever. All of this was made worse by the fact that the food is really mediocre. I'm sure you could find better Indian in downtown Indy, and I wish I had. I will say, if you are in the area and really can't find anything else, I would probably try the buffet. It's only $8 and Indian places only highlight their stars during the buffet, so at least the food would match the price. Because my dinner was $44 and that is way too much for this crappy experience.

Lunch buffet is a bargain and is a must go. They are very handy with their meats and the goat and chicken curries were delish. The Tandoori chicken was baked to perfection. Service is great.

This place is owned by the same crew that own Shalimar in Broadripple. Shalimar is my favorite Indian place ever. This is a close 2nd. You'd think they would be exactly the same, but they aren't...this one is just a little different. I most often order off the menu. I'm a HUGE fan of the Indian Chili. HUGE FAN! Order it spicy though...really spicy. They are shy to kick it up here...afraid of our wimpy american palates no doubt. The buffet is also a great choice. There are always several different dishes to try. I've yet to get really good, fresh naan on the buffet. Ordering it table side seems to be a better option. You can also try some of the different variations that way...jalepeno, cilantro, etc. I really dig the mint sauce...on everything. Carryout is also accurate and efficient. Sooo happy to have an Indian place close by.

My husband and I love Indian food and have tried a couple of places since moving to Syracuse. This is one of our favorite spots for a lunch buffet. The food is fresh. The buffet has tandori and tiki masala. They usually have some vegetarian options as well. Nice clean bathrooms and friendly and fast service. The wait staff here is quick to refill waters which strangely enough is a problem at several other places I have gone to.

  • Luisanna R.

I have come to this place twice. The food was very consistent. Although some might say that the portion sizes seem a little small to me they are just right. I like having slightly smaller portion sizes if I get better quality food. I have tried a few different dishes and each one is so flavorful and nicely balanced. I will probably come here pretty regularly and maybe one day try their lunch buffet.

Big fan of Indian food and so thankful that there is a great place near my school. I go here about once a week and am never disappointed with the lunch buffet. I highly recommend this for a quick and inexpensive lunch! You will leave smelling like Indian food though. It's a small price to pay (and will make you hungry the rest of the day).

Garlic Naan, Chicken Naan-- HELPINGS ARE HUGE! you won't be disappointed. This joint is hopping. I have been several times and on weekdays it's always packed with nearby IUPUI and hospital traffic. It's become quite popular. Their buffet is amazing but don't hesitate to choose from the variety of menu items that are equally deliciously and plentiful in helpings. The wait staff and owners are friendly and won't rush you if you decided to sit awhile.

I ate here two fridays in a row, and on the second friday I ate it twice. This place is really delicious and cheap for what you get.

One of the best, if not the best Indian in Indianapolis. The portions are good, the food is tasty, and although a tad pricey compared to other places, you're getting what you're paying for.
