We had City Bbq at a Yelp party and really liked it. We hadn't had a chance to go until tonight. Service was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Pulled pork, pulled chicken and turkey breast were all very good. Hush puppies were about thr best I've ever had. Pricing closer to a casual dining restaurant but no table service.

Great chicken, cook to perfection Not the best pull pork but the sauce did the trick I will recommend the place just because the service was awesome

Damn, what have I been doing with my life? I didn't know that such an oasis was so close to me. First off, I didn't actually know that this place was an order-at-the-counter deal. I expected a waiter/waitress experience, but this isn't a problem! I want my bbq and I want it now, y'know? No complaints. I got the pit masters pick, which is some kind of cheesy bbq-y peppery gift from the gods. I tried it with, well, every kind of bbq sauce. I'm getting hungry just writing this. Yikes. Get it with Mac and Cheese. You'll cry of happiness. Also, this place is very affordable. I'm all about that. Maybe not the healthiest option. That's what gyms are for. Get a membership to one and eat here every weekend.

I was lucky enough to participate Yelp Elite's "Glutton Gathering" at City Barbeque last month, which was in-cred-i-ble. Still, I couldn't help but feel a tad skeptical, questioning if the staff had pulled out all of the stops and put their best foot forward in order to have us say nice things about the joint. Could they pull it off on an ordinary day? I came in on a Monday night and was immediately greeted by the jolliest cashier ever, who was happy to welcome me back and provide recommendations on what I should eat. Seeing that I had already tried (and loved) the smoked turkey, I chose that on Texas toast. My intention was to see if the turkey, a protein that dries out easily, would again be just as smoky and succulent as last time. Oh man...not only did I yet again bite into a smoky, succulent, peppery turkey breast that had been carved right in front of me, but also I was able to enjoy the buttery grilled Texas toast that was situated above and below it. There was only one way to top such a prime sandwich: smother it in BBQ sauce. My personal preference is to combine the mustard and the sweet BBQ sauces, which results in a drippy mess, but sometimes, you have to make sacrifices for a fine meal. (Suggestion: sit on the stools facing 10th Street so no one has to see your face and hands covered in BBQ sauce). As if those thick slices of carved smoked turkey and Texas toast weren't enough, I still had two sides to try, the potato salad and the vinegar slaw. What's so amazing about the potato salad (again) is that it has the consistency of a smashed potato dish but with the creamy, sweet additions of egg and mayo. Plus, you have more sweetness and tang coming from the crunchy coleslaw, providing a balance in texture as you take a bite a mushy potato salad followed by a crunch of strings of carrot and cabbage. I made such smart choices in my meal selection that I gave myself a saucy high five. Lucky me, I had a sensational second experience at City Barbeque, keeping my expectations high and my stomach stuffed.

I did not expect to like this place to be honest. I don't normally go for chain restaurants (nor am a I big barbecue fan) and this one just seemed randomly plopped down on 11th street - but I was mistaken. It was great! I will attest to the fact that I did not get the Barbecue, but I got the smoked sausage, mac and cheese, and baked beans and I was pleased. The baked beans were a little too sweet for me but the rest was very tasty. They also have some legit sweet tea (which I halved with the unsweetened for the perfect combo) and I must also admit that upon leaving I had to buy a huge slice of their chocolate cake - it most definitely tastes as good as it looks! So even if you're not a huge lover of Barbecue, give it a try!

BBQ is a deep love of mine so when I discovered this place I was a happy girl. The meats here are good, smokey and tender. I like their ribs the best. And if you can, wait and go on Tuesday - it's $1.15 per rib which is a deal. My one complaint is the sides. I feel they are lack luster. Check them out when you are needing to feed your inner carnivore.

Similar to other city bbq's the brisket was pretty darn good. My friend had the pulled pork and was less than impressed. The sides were average and they had sunking beer available so thats a plus. The place is relatively new and pretty clean. Staff was very friendly.

Very good quality of food. Friendly and welcoming staff. I highly recommend it. I tried different places for BBQ. This one is the best . My favorite 2 sides are potato salad and corn pudding.

We fell in love with this barbeque when we lived in Toledo. We were excited to find a location in Greenwood then downright elated when one came in so close to the IUPUI campus. Large portions of delicious food. We typically split a sampler or a half chicken. The sides are delicious. There are some great staff at this location too. Very friendly and helpful. Don't forget to join the rewards program if you plan to come here frequently.

I had stopped by this new, nearby-IUPUI location to place a small catering order for a BBQ-loving co-worker's birthday, and ended up staying, ordering a little (or not-so-little) something for myself. City BBQ has really transformed the former retail space, and I liked the corrugated metal and wood accents; overall, nicely decorated for a BBQ spot. I also enjoyed the sauce and toppings bar, which offered three (3) of their most popular sauces warmed up...which I think is genius. If you prefer squirting room-temp sauce on your food, there are also smaller squirt bottles at each table. I chose the pulled pork "naked" with a regular drink and sides of mac & cheese and sweet vinegar slaw, totaling a little over $11. The mac & cheese tasted off to me, but was made edible by adding a generous amount of fresh cracked pepper and spicy BBQ sauce; I would not order it again. The vinegar slaw was amazing, especially for those of us who consider mayo-based slaws a personal affront. The pulled pork wasn't the best I have ever tasted, but had the telltale pink smoke ring and was pretty good, especially with copious amounts of the spiciest BBQ sauce option. It was a little too much food, which was my fault. To save money next time, I'd probably order the slaw as an addition to my pulled pork for a $0.50 upcharge. I'd also like to try out the remaining tasty-sounding sides, especially the corn pudding and seasonal Southwest black bean & corn salad. It is great to have another dining option nearby that isn't a pizza or strict sandwich place.

I came here searching for Carolina BBQ. Their Lo Lo Pulled Pork is suppose to be vinegar based BBQ and though it does have a similar taste it is definitely not the Carolina BBQ I was looking for. Beyond the fact that they missed the mark on Carolina BBQ everything else about this place was alright. I had their green beans and mac and cheese both of which were good. The meat itself was cooked perfect, was juicy, and had good flavor. I do plan to go back and try other things on the menu but I have yet to find a place that sells authentic Carolina BBQ.

Wow! Great BBQ. The wood fired oven gives it the awesome slow smoked result and great flavor. I'm coming back.

This is the best tasting and best quality BBQ short of traveling to Memphis for dinner. The pulled pork is cooked right there. Not dry. Not burnt. Not shredded to a mushy glob. The hot and original sauces make a nice mix of drizzled goodness all over my sandwich. The cornbread is legit. It won't disappoint I promise. Nor will the sweet tea. I would strongly recommend the corn pudding, greens, and fries as sides. So delightful. If I was a rich man, I would buy a platter of City BBQ for every meat-eating person in Indy and share this wonderful delight with them. If you haven't yet made the trip downtown for this - do it.

I'm always excited to see a business growing and expanding in Indy. City Barbeque certainly deserves that kind of success - they've earned it with the quality and consistency of their food and people. Their brisket is top notch, green beans are awesome... but nothing nothing nothing tops their sausage. I give it five noms!

Surprisingly, I really liked the 2 sausages I ordered here. I was surprised because I went into this place with no real expectations. I've always been a little skeptical of barbecue joints after I visited Weber's Grill in downtown Indy a few times. Most of the food I've eaten at Weber's Grill has been mediocre at best, but exorbitantly priced. Anyway, City Barbecue's menu and prices were decent. The feel of the restaurant was nice too. I'm not much of a dine outside kind of person(flying bugs, yuck) but it was nice to know that it was an option. You don't have to worry about crazy pedestrians interrupting your dining experience as you dine outside, like some of the downtown restaurants. I'd never eat outdoors downtown. That's just my preference. I could've had my sausages "naked" or on a bun. I did a wtf when the employee gave me the option of "naked." I'm slow. Sauce options were on the side. The sausages were hot, hot, hot and spicy, spicy, but good! The sauces(sweet and spicy) I chose, were good too. The buns were great! The staff was pleasant! I was thoroughly happy with my 1st experience at City Barbecue. I'd easily go back. I skimmed the menu quickly and from what I saw, the pricing didn't seem to break the bank. I got 2 sausages for 7 bucks. I thought that was fair pricing. I didn't dine in, but I probably would have if I weren't in such a hurry. In all honesty, I went into that area for a Jimmy John's sandwich, but I couldn't resist the BBQ smells coming from City BBQ. I'd like to try the pulled pork or chicken on my next visit to City BBQ.

Loved the pulled pork and brisket. Great flavor and great bark on the meats. The oh-so-important sides did not disappoint either. I was impressed by the heartiness and depth of flavor in the beans. Could have been a meal by itself. I'm not usually a potato salad kinda person but I gave theirs a try and ate all of it! I'd order it again. Dessert was a peach cobbler with HOMEMADE whipped cream. I think that was the highlight of the dessert, but the warm tender flaky crumble was so freakin good also!

If there was a 6th Star, City BBQ would have it. Whoa doggy. Get in my bellay. When it comes to City BBQ, this gals in. Every time, hands down, let's go, I'm there. Sign me up for the pulled chicken, spicy bbq sauce, corn casserole, and mac n cheese: I don't even need to venture, because I know what I like and I'm happy as a clam getting it. When you walk in and notice the beauty of being inside what appears to be a wood barn, you'll know you've made the right choice and if that alone doesn't make you want to stay, well then, you don't deserve to be in this little slice of glory anyways. Get yourself a bottle of all the sauces, and give them a whirl because you'll for sure love them all, and be sure to be friendly to the staff, because they are always incredibly friendly to guests!

Where to even start? The sausage? The brisket? The potato salad? The peach cobbler? There are really too many options, but since all of them are phenomenal you really can't go wrong! I was lucky enough to meet the founder, and sample their most popular items (thanks, Yelp!). Never in my life have I ever ordered ribs from a restaurant, and to be honest I didn't think I was missing much. But oh Lord, City Barbeque has shown me the way! I think the sausage and the full-cut brisket are tied number one in my book, with ribs close behind. Their meat is smoked to perfection, and I was one of the lucky few who got to go behind the scenes and see where it's done. You can tell how much heart and soul they put into their food; just hearing the owner talk about his inspiration and ideas for opening a barbecue joint 15 years ago, you can tell how much he cares. Not only do they have amazing food, but they have a great attitude about their product and work environment. Just take their sandwich names for example, one of them is called "cowbell" as in... need more cowbell, anyone? I know I do! I can't wait to head back, preferably on a Wednesday, considering Sun King pints are $3 and come with an etched pint glass!.

There are not many BBQ places in Indianapolis (and especially downtown). This is a good option in a strip mall full of restaurants near the IUPUI campus. All the meat is smoked onsite and is pretty good (some better than others). The chicken and pulled pork was particularly tasty (and moist) during this visit. The ribs and brisket were a little dry. Prices are pretty reasonable and they have a good selection of sides.

Lord knows I love some barbecue! I frequent a lot of barbecue spots when I dont feel like firing up my own... Which is hardly ever. So just think how good City Barbecue must be to drag me away from the warmth of my own grill. I haven't had a meat here that I didn't like... The chiicken is moist, the brisket is adorned with a smoke ring fit for a majestic bride. The sides serve their purpose and play sidekick to the smoky goodness of the beefy, porky and chickeney delights. The price is right and hey, no cliche trash can lids to eat off of. I really do like it here.

5 stars for the show put on tonight by City BBQ! It was so on fire, even the fire department showed up! We had everything from their beef brisket, turkey, sausage, ribs, greenbeans, coleslaw, potato salad, to their peach cobbler. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the baked beans are to die for! The founder and pitmaster Rick gave us an amazing history and description of their values and what is important to be successful. They donate all leftover food to a local charity and NONE their employees make minimum wage. Class act and amazing BBQ! I will definitely be back, especially on Wed nights for $3 Sunking pints with a take home Sunking glass.

I had heard a lot about this place and decided to try it on Fathers Day. Well.....I wasnt really impressed on this visit. I had the beef brisket, sausage, green beans and gumbo. Sausage and gumbo were really good....sausage cooked well done and gumbo with the right amount of spice. But the green beans were undercooked and the brisket had no flavor. Several people at our table ordered the ribs and chicken combo. I tasted the ribs from my friends plate....good and tender. My son ordered pulled chicken which they were out of, so he ordered the brisket and thought it was good. I will definitely give this place another try because my 1st visit was on a holiday and they may have been busy and that's why they ran out of things. After reading some of the reviews, I'm looking forward to trying it again. The sweet tea is the bomb.

Great service ordering...they let us try a few things and were very nice. We got free drinks since it was our first time. We ordered the city sampler which was amazing! Their sweet tea is great- mix it with some lemonade. We ordered fries and baked beans as sides...both very quality. Their sauces are excellent. Someone walked by and was very sweet and offered to help us with anything. Very comfortable, relaxed environment with fantastic bbq. Highly recommended, which says a lot coming from a southerner that's picky about her bbq.

I'm not from Indy, but in town for a double header with a buddy (IU and Butler Basketball) my buddy wanted BBQ, but was hesitant to each BBQ in Indiana. I'd been to several City Barbeque's before in several other states and mentioned he wouldn't be disappointed here. He didn't believe me (he lives in Tennessee where there's endless good BBQ). City Barbeque bucks the trend of average BBQ in Indiana. It's not the greatest you'll ever eat, but in Indy it impresses. And, you'll find consistently good meats here nightly (just don't try the lemonade unless you like sour stuff). At this location, you'll find ample, free parking, which isn't available at most downtown restaurants, great, friendly service and people who make you feel like they want you eating there. In addition, no matter how busy it is you'll have your food possibly as quick as you grab your drink. Now, something to consider; if you've spent a lot of time eating Southern BBQ, expect to pay more here. This place isn't cheap, particularly if you want to add a drink and any sides, but rest assured, what you do pay for is going to be good. Personally, my friend (who admitted this place was way better than expected) and I think the brisket is the best item on the menu, but don't sleep on the pulled pork and pulled turkey (which I order naked). As for the sides, they are all ok. Normally, I grab a piece of the cornbread, which is sweet and a side salad (I know, not a traditional side at a BBQ place) because they use fresh greens, not crappy iceberg lettuce here. Any of the sides you order come with more than fair portions and are better than you'd expect. When anywhere near downtown (or in town to see a Butler, Indy Fuel game) which are within 10 minutes, this is a great place to come solo, with the family or a few buddies. The place is clean, in a safe lot and there's TV's to watch sporting events while you eat.

You can not order anyone bad at city BBQ! The food, staff and Wednesday night $3 sun king pints = a darn good, good time

Hospitality- 5 stars! Favorite items are the brisket (get full cut if possible!), cole slaw and potato salad. Somehow they've made potato salad addicting? A big surprise was the sausage that had a little kick to it... had to get seconds! Their lemonade is really good and tart- perfect for making an Arnold Palmer. Wednesdays are $3 Sun King pints and Thursdays they have a special on ribs.

Went again, planning to try the ribs. The I got the sampler again. I ate almost the whole thing (!!) Then a nice lady came out of the back somewhere and gave me free chocolate cake. Ugh... I totally overate. But I would do it again in a hot second. =]

Located near Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis this restaurant Gives pulled pork a whole new meaning. Good sized portions with plenty of hot sauce varieties, I enjoyed all the options available. The prices seemed a bit high but the clean dining room was worth the extra cost compared to other smoked pork restaurants.

I might sound like a know-it-all-jerk here. But let me preface by explaining, I'm from Lexington North Carolina, as in LEXINGTON STYLE BARBECUE. I'm a Southerner living in the Midwest. BBQ is what we do. It will raise the most passionate conversations you be ever heard. So whenever I hear "BBQ" in the Midwest I scoff. It can only be made on the South and is done the best in Lexington. However, my friends like this place and me being the social butterfly that I am tags along. It's not true Lexington style BBQ. It's the closest attempt that I've seen here in Indy. But it's dry and the vinegar base is off. They do have Cheerwine though, which is like drinking nectar from the gods. The hush puppies are good and they have nice side options. Overall, I'm calling it fake BBQ. ALTHOUGH it's still tasty. Just know, it's better in NC;)

Only had food to go, but man, was it delicious. It's not the best BBQ I've had, but it's also a lot closer than going down to Texas for a meal. I had the sampler to be sure to get a taste of all their meats. It was a TON of food, I should not have eaten as much as I did, but it was very good food so I kept eating. The sampler has pulled pork, brisket, sausage, and smoked turkey. The smoked turkey is the only one that disappoints, it's a bit dry and really bland to be honest. The brisket's ok, I've had better, but it's good. The pulled pork is delicious. Juicy, melt in your mouth delicious. The highlight though, has to be, the sausage; it's superb, full of flavor and you can taste the spices and grilling, it's fantastic. For sides I had the corn pudding and baked beans. Wow, the sides were incredible, some of the best BBQ sides I've ever had. The corn pudding was great and filling in and of itself. The baked beans were heavenly, sooooo full of brisket as well. A lot of places will throw in bits of bacon or brisket, but no, City threw in hunks of delicious brisket and man was it good. Can't imagine any BBQ place in Indy being much better, hence the 5 stars

I moved to Indy about a year ago and have heard really good things from friends about City BBQ so I was really excited to finally try it tonight when my husband and I were in the area. We picked up a family pack (supposed to feed 2 adults and 2 kids) with pulled pork, green beans, cornbread and fries. It was plenty of food - easily could have fed a small family and was more than enough for the two of us. The pros: - Pork was tender and tasty - Plenty of food at a good price The cons: - We tried 3 of their BBQ sauces (skipped the mustard bases one) and they all tasted pretty much the same to me. If I loved the flavor maybe this wouldn't be a big deal but it was heavy on the molasses and not too much else Overall it was plenty of food, tasted pretty decent but nothing really stellar about it. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again.

  • Andrew B.

Staff was very helpful. Samples of whatever I wanted before ordering. The turkey was amazing, brisket and pulled pork also fantastic. Probably the best beans I've had at a BBQ joint. Pricing was about average for good bbq. Overall it was my third favourite bbq place (crocodile bbq in Syracuse still #1!)

  • Katherine L.

The BBQ here was just okay. I found their servings to be somewhat disappointing. I've definitely had better BBQ elsewhere, but I guess I am still on that search in Indianapolis. I had gotten the brisket and the pulled pork, with sides of macaroni and beans. My meat was dry, not very flavorful, and was somewhat tough. My beans were oddly sweet and salty and my macaroni was a bit bland. I can't say if I would really recommend this to anyone, but I guess it's okay if you really need your BBQ fix.

Bad, just absolutely bad... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that their food might actually be editable, but the day I went everything was going wrong for them. Service: Absolutely horrendous. The place is mostly self service. You give them your name and they call it when the food is ready. We placed a small order of three lunch specials and it took over 25 minutes for them to put it on the tray. They weren't especially busy, it was beyond obvious that the kids chopping meat behind the counter were extremely high and moving at the pace of 90 year old grandma. Food: I order the lunch bbq sandwich plate. Feeling a little homesick I ordered hush puppies and macaroni as the sides. The macaroni was inedible, it was cooked properly, the flavor was just gross. I am almost positive that there was not any real cheese in it. I tasted it quite a few times trying to figure it out, after much debate my coworkers and I determined it tasted like what a kraft single would taste like if you melted it down still covered in the plastic wrapper. The hush puppies were actually good. Not greasy at all, their attention to detail was lacking in that I got a stray fry. Maybe it was freebie... maybe it was a sign that their standard for cleanliness and sanitation was lacking. And now for the pièce de résistance, the bbq. Heres all the reasons it was bad, ONE it was on a store bought bun, TWO, it had absolutely NO flavor, THREE, in addition to no flavor it was dryer then cardboard on fire. I'll never return...

I've been to City Barbecue a few times now, and I'd have to say that it's pretty good barbecue. The ribs and brisket are both delicious, with or without their barbecue sauces. Their numerous side options make for a difficult decision. I like the hush puppies, greens, and cornbread. They also have seasonal side items. The fried pickles are also pretty tasty, but they are not a side unfortunately. They also sell larger potion sizes to cater to families and larger groups. They have carry out options available, and you can also order online. As far as beverages go, they have standard sodas, bottled sodas, sweet tea, and Sun King beer all available. They are in a good location not too far from downtown and there is usually plenty of parking and ample seating. The staff is also pleasant and helpful. Overall, this is decent barbecue in a place not known for barbecue and I'll be coming back again and again.

One of my favorite spots! The meat is always juicy, sauce options are plentiful and the corn pudding is my kryptonite (even though I rarely even eat anything with bread). You can order your sandwich "naked" and get a nice serving of meat in a bowl. The also have a selection of unique sodas and feature local beer from Sun King Brewery

  • Nicole S.

Pretty good. I don't have Southern roots so I'm not very particular about BBQ. The corn pudding was excellent. I had the pulled pork which was just OK. However, I do know of some places in the city that do not specialize in BBQ that have better pulled pork. The only thing I really didn't like, and what took away a star, was how much of a chain it felt like. There was the run of the mill sports paraphernalia, TV's in every corner, and cheesy signs everywhere. If I am in the area during lunch time I would be fine with stopping there. I just don't think I will return to City BBQ until I know it is the best the city has to offer.

Pros: quick service, plenty of seating, awesome soda selections, food was great Cons: Very busy during lunch (to be expected for IUPUI campus locations though) I'd heard good things, so I was excited to stop by for a quick lunch during the weekday. Arrived around 11:45 to see a line almost out the door. You order at a counter, give them your name, find a seat and go get your food when they call y our name. At first I was worried there wouldn't be enough seating, but this place is full of tables, and even during the height of lunch hour I saw tables available. The line moved very quickly, and I was sitting down enjoying my drink (tons of diet soda options made me a happy girl) within 4 minutes of walking in the door. Food came out quickly and tasted great. I got the roast turkey dinner (naked- no bun) with a side of green beans and cornbread. My guy got the brisket sandwich and mac and cheese. Everything we ordered was great. I loved the mac and cheese, the turkey was so tender and flavorful and the cornbread was delish. I will say that the sandwiches appeared to be pretty small- almost to the point of being sliders. Keep that in mind if you're really hungry. All in all, this place gets my vote. I will be back next time I need my quick BBQ fix!

We had our first City BBQ experience recently, while pregaming for an Indy Eleven match. It's safe to say we'll be going back at some point soon. I got the city sampler, which was an overwhelming amount of food. Turkey, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, plus sides. Everything was cooked well. The turkey was a little dry, but most smoked turkey is, right? Pork and brisket were excellent. Sausage was tasty. Both the baked beans and the mac and cheese stood out as sides. The sauces were a little weak - the Sweet City actually tastes a little bit like General Tso's sauce (no joke), and the mustard-based sauce was a little too smooth for my tastes. The Brush City was by far the best of the sauces. Very tasty if you like bbq. Is it as good as what you'd get in Memphis or Kansas City or Austin? Of course not. But it's still very good. PS - It's sad that the owners felt like they had to put a sign up on the wall explaining why it's okay that the meat is pink, but that's Indy for you.

Okay, I've got a pet peeve. When a business offers online ordering, I expect my food to actually be ready when I arrive at the designated pick up time. Instead, sadly, when I arrived to pick up my order, it was still sitting on the fax machine, untouched and unnoticed.

I'm simultaneously thrilled and annoyed that there is a City Barbecue so close to the IUPUI campus. Thrilled because I love barbecue and I can actually walk here for lunch, and annoyed because I can't afford to eat here every day. The food has been excellent each time I've eaten here. I've had the ribs, pulled pork, and brisket so far and the hubs has also had the chicken, which he said was delicious. There is a surprising amount of seating available and the line moves quickly. And for those of us who use the IUPUI JagTag? They take is as a form of payment.

BBQ is so personal. There is Texas style. Memphis and KC BBQ everyone says they have the best. All I can say is City BBQ is darn good. Not the best I have had but well above the norm. The prices are fair except deserts seem a bit high. I love there brisket and chicken. So enjoy each style of BBQ and enjoy City BBQ

This place is very good. The food is very nice as well as the customer service. Some of the best BBQ that I have ever had & definitely will come back again. I am from indy so I have heard all about these places from many ppl, so I knew that I had to try it out for myself. I had the pulled pork as a lot of ppl have chosen when they come there. It reminds me a lot of BBQ that I had in Mississippi which was one of the best I have ever had. I have already recommended this place to a couple of friends that are from out of the country.

I did not like City's version of BBQ. Brisket was dry and excessively salty, ribs tasted like they vacuum marinated with liquid smoke. Sauces and baked beans were good. Staff was friendly.

The food here is very good and the guys in my lunch group like this place. I got the quarter chicken and a couple of side salads. The service was good but something here is missing. Maybe it's just me but everything was a little too polished and clean. It just doesn't seem to fit my ideal of a Barbecue joint. I go for more of the small, local places that have been honing their craft for generations.

Starting with customer service.....friendly and helpful...order was correct. I had the pulled chicken and its was great...no bone fragments. Mac and cheese was pretty good and green beans very tasty ( even though its made with meat). The vinegar slaw was a different treat and I liked it. We also had the banana pudding. ..not quite like mom's but tasty. I would definitely return.

Great location. I hadn't been to a City BBQ in over a year, so I wasn't sure what to expect. All I remembered previously that the meat and sauce were good, but the I was unimpressed with the sides. Well this time I tried some new things that I can't get off my mind. Sandwich: brisket Must have sides: coleslaw - full of flavor as it's sweet and tangy, green beans w/ bacon, mac & cheese, bacon and cheese fries Sauce: sweet duh! Drinks: Sweet and/or Lemonade....seriously it's one of the best lemonades.

Great Location! Stopped in for a quick lunch and was impressed with the service and the food. Went with the Brisket, Mac'n'Cheese, and Green Beans with Bacon. The mac was on point and the brisket delivered, however, at the end of my sandwich, I was left wishing for a bit bigger portion of meats. YOU MUST TRY THE CORN PUDDING - it will change your life. The house BBQ sauce was my choice, sweet wasn't too shabby, either. Washed it all down with some sweet iced tea - highly recommended, BTW. Worth noting: the order came out very quickly, which is usually a complaint I have about BBQ joints; not here! I was chowing down in mere minutes. No wonder the line was out the door.... I'll be back when I'm downtown for lunch.

From all appearances, this is a fast food restaurant. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is an excellent BBQ joint. You may have trouble finding a seat because the word is out. Great BBQ at a great price!

So we've only ordered to go meals from here. The pulled pork is great and so are the BBQ sauces. It smells amazing. Nice and smokey. We've picked this up for dinner a couple nights. Plus my guy loves their sweet tea. The sides haven't been that great though. We've tried mac n cheese, green beans, baked beans, and greens. Some were more tolerable than the others but nothing blew our socks off. Still. We'll continue to swing by for the great tasting pork and tea.

City Barbecue came to downtown indy with a lot of hype among my peers, so expectations were high. I was pumped up enough to get the smoked turkey sandwich and spring the extra $2.99 for 2 sides. The friendly associate helping me recommended the baked beans so I ordered that and corn pudding. Both were delicious, but the baked beans were cold. The turkey was tender and flavorful and the corn pudding also worked well as a vehicle for the various bbq sauces so I could sample them all.

Best BBQ outside of TX. The sauce is a little on the sweet side (I like mine more spicy) but great food all around! Brisket is my favorite meat on the menu but try the city tour it is the best of all their food on one plate (feeds two people).

I haven't actually been to this location yet but they provided food for a Yelp event that will quickly make me a repeat customer. I tried their green beans which were fantastic. Pretty sure there was a little bit of bacon in there and seriously, who doesn't love bacon in their beans? They they gave me both brisket and pulled pork to try to determine which I liked better. The owner was so wonderfully chatty about how most people have a preference and took the time to let me figure out which I liked. While I decided that I liked both, I think I like the pulled pork the best. Since I was trying to eat paleo, I didn't use any of the sauces provided but I have to say that the meat really didn't need it. Yes, it was that good! See ya soon!

Full disclaimer: I'm a South Bend native who's never lived outside Indiana... So naturally I feel fully qualified to review a Texas BBQ joint. The restaurant was nice and the staff was super friendly. They also have outdoor seating which was a huge plus. I got the beef brisket sandwich and the meat was tender, delicious, etc. The sauces were also great. My favorite was the sweet city sauce that reminded me of my grandmas BBQ sauce. (She's from Detroit so she's legit with this stuff too.) In closing, the food was a lot like Dick's downtown but with outdoor seating and easier parking.

Ok looked forward to this after the hype. Turns out hmm not so much sweet sauce tasted burnt pulled pork was fair. Ribs lacked any flavor as did most of what we had only upside was mac and cheese. Btw over 2dollars for banana pudding which was about 1/2cub of box mix pudding with a few wafers not Nilla wafers. Can't see making the 30 mile drive again.

We were on the road traveling and were looking for a good bbq place and found this via Yelp. Some quick impressions ... I had a pulled pork sandwich (I believe it was called Lo Lo's pork sandwich) and it was absolutely fantastic. My wife had the St. Louis ribs with a side of gumbo that had the perfect mix of spices. We ate on the patio where even though it was August, it was totally comfortable with a light breeze. If we're ever back in the Indianapolis area, we'll definitely be making a return trip here.

So glad to have a BBQ joint that has sweet BBQ sauce. I enjoyed the lunch sized pulled pork sandwich w/ green beans, hush puppies, and baked beans. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was the baked beans were a little hard. You won't leave disappointed!

Delicious!!! My boyfriend and I were able to sit outside an get that outdoor bar-b-que feeling! We ordered the pulled pork sandwich with gumbo and rice! I must say their gumbo was my favorite !

Was thrilled to have City BBQ in the downtown area. This location lives up to the reputation previously set by the others. They rock! I can't say enough positive adjectives about their meat and sauce flavors. The best there is around. Fries are awesome. Other sides are disappointingly more ordinary but the meat is so good I won't discount them for that. Go to the newest Indy area City BBQ, you just can't be disappointed.

Up until City BBQ IUPUI opened, my Tuesday lunch was City BBQ in Avon. We went to the IUPUI location the day after it opened and it was just as good as Avon. The pulled pork is delicious, but my favorites are the ribs (every Tuesday is rib day), BBQ beans and their vinegar slaw, not to mention the sweet tea. Unfortunately, the dilemna I faced was getting to know the staff at both locations, so I solved the problem by alternating every other Tuesday. I get to enjoy BBQ on Tuesdays in Avon (with leftovers on Wedneday) and the following Tuesday at IUPUI (with leftovers on Wednesday). What more can you ask for...City BBQ ribs and sides two days a week, every week. In addition, the staff at both locations are friendly, eager to help and (somehow) remember your name...no easy feat with the hundreds of customers at each location. I can't wait until December when my son and his family come to visit. He's a BIG BBQ fan and City BBQ will knock his socks off.

Went again, planning to try the ribs. The I got the sampler again. I ate almost the whole thing (!!) Then a nice lady came out of the back somewhere and gave me free chocolate cake. Ugh... I totally overate. But I would do it again in a hot second. =]

Other sides are disappointingly more ordinary but the meat is so good I won't discount them for that. Go to the newest Indy area City BBQ, you just can't be disappointed.

It was my first experience to try BBQ in Indy. And I'd say I was really impresses. Love the food and staff was so friendly
