Was craving Mexican after moving back to Indy. Closest to me was Cancun. So I ordered takeout and I was fairly disappointed. The food was pretty mediocre. The queso was watery, chicken and rice was bland and overcooked. Friend got a quesadilla, but it was a burrito more then a quesadilla. He also stated it was lacking any real flavor. I will try and find a better Mexican place next time I have the urge. This place seems pretty popular so maybe I had one bad experience, but either way what I got was disappointing.

Ehhh.... eaten in at this location once and it was okay. In my opinion you're better off going to the one at 65th and Keystone. The service wasn't as good here and the atmosphere just isn't as good either. I do however like this location for take out. Some nights I convince myself its okay to have chips, queso and salsa for dinner, so this is the place I turn, as their queso is some of the best. I won't totally write this place off, as I think Cancun truly is some of the better Mexican in Indy, but something about this location doesn't quite cut it for me.

To me, this place is a 3 star in some ways and a 4 star in others so since I am feeling generous because it is Friday, I will go with four. I have only been here a couple times and a couple of years apart. I don't remember a lot about the first visit except giant super frosted beers for an awesome price. Perfect. So my mom, husband and I ended up here when our first location struck out by being closed on Sundays. We weren't mad, we remember liking this place. We ended up getting a pitcher of Dos Equis instead of giant beers, but the glasses were still frosted! Yea! We got chips and salsa quickly and I enjoy that they give individual cups of salsa. In my continuing quest to eat all the quesos everywhere (see other reviews), I ordered the large queso, awesome size and very good! We made sure to finish this even though it took us most of the meal to do so. Service was mostly good but we did have to flag our server down for more chips for the queso as she kept walking by us without stopping. What was most disappointing to me was my meal. My husband and mom both enjoyed theirs but I got the steak Jose Frog quesadilla (yes, I wanted to see if it was similar to the one I got at Tequila Sunrise). It was oddly spicy, runny and just didn't taste very good. I was so disappointed! However, I am not writing off Cancun based on this dish, I will just try something else next time! They have a variety of drink specials and I am still wanting another giant beer. And more queso.

Most of the time the service is ok, but twice it's been awful this last visit the food arrived cold and the service was so bad we had to wait forever to get a drink refill or hot sauce. I shouldn't of left a tip at all, however I left ten percent the waitress came back and told me I could keep the tip! I couldn't believe how rude that was, so we promptly got up and left and I won't be back even though I enjoy their margaritas.

The margarita tasted like a mix and not freshly made. Wasn't my favorite, my lunch of ultimate nachos was just okay. I wouldn't necessarily make it a point to come back. It wasn't awful, but I would prefer something with fresher ingredients which I can get from many other Indy establishments. My husband said his wet burrito was delicious, so he was happy w that but not impressed w the margarita.

The Cancun on Keystone Ave really outshines this location, but the 86th Street location isn't bad. Service is hit or miss, as is the food. Nothing is terrible, but ranges from just ok to slightly above average. If you are in this neck of the woods, it is a respectable place for Mexican. However, if you are looking for greatness from the Cancun chain, hit up the one on Keystone.

This is a pretty standard Mexican restaurant as far as Indianapolis goes. It's a local chain, so you know what you're getting. Pretty average enchiladas, tacos, burritos, chimichangas, etc. There's nothing that really stands out on the menu. Salsa is pretty good. Chips come out hot. It's pretty reasonably priced, too. Make sure you check out the daily food and drink specials as the items are 20-40% off.

Food quality has been fairly consistent and decent - service can be very hit-or-miss

The first time we went here, we were stoked. The place was cute, the dinner was awesome. We thought, awesome, we just moved here and we have a go to Mexican place already. NOPE. The next time, we decided to get take out. I asked twice, specifically for flour tortillas and got corn and I swear, it tasted like it had been sitting in a buffet they wanted to clear out before dinner or something. It was ice cold, and bland. I don't mind explaining my order several times when there is a language barrier, honestly, I don't. But when someone repeats it back, I assume they have it. Evidently not. It was not quite Taco Bell quality. Seriously. We actually checked twice to make sure it was the same place that we went to the previous time. I guess if I am going to recommend anything here, just don't get take out. EVER.

The place is pretty cute - would be good for a low key date place. The food was very average Mexican -- nothing stood out. I felt like the rice was undercooked. The chicken was decently flavorful but nothing to rave about. The margaritas could have been stronger but I had to work the next day so this was acceptable.

This restaurant was fantastic. The restaurant was nice and quiet. A friend and I went for an early dinner and we shared the chicken and steak fajitas which were fantastic. Their cheese queso was not up to par though, it was a little runny and was just missing something. Their margaritas were super strong and extremely tasty! What was great was you can buy a gallon of their pre mixed margarita mix to take home. I brought it home for my husband and myself of course, and it was extremely enjoyable! We will definitely be back again!

No go. This is my least favorite Cancun in Indy. The food never tastes the same for some reason. I went once and the queso looked like someone had dumbed a cup of hot spicy peppers in it, and another time I went and there were no peppers at all. I have stale chips on several occasions and the service is hit or miss.

The food tasted like it was frozen and reheated. Service was not good either. Not impressed.

I really wanted to like this Cancun location, but a couple of things killed it for me. To start with, I want to say I like the Cancun on Rangeline Road in Carmel, and would go there again. But this one, not a chance. First visit, shortly after they opened, I went with my family. The waitress argued with my father, telling him Tacos only come in orders of three when he asked for two a la carte. Then, she brought chicken fajitas for my wife, who had ordered steak. When my wife pointed this out, the waitress said "no, you ordered chicken" and started to leave until we made her take the food back and give us what she ordered. Second visit I stopped in for lunch because the Thai place next store was packed. Everything went fine, until, a month or so later I received an additional, phantom credit card charge. I successfully disputed this with my credit card company, who found that my card was not present when it was charged. So basically, the food is irrelevant. No food is good enough to ignore attempted theft and poor service.

Grand Opening! So, everyone heard about the sad news of El Rodeo being burned down, and I was very sad because there were no other mexican restaurants around the area (besides Taco Bell). Just as I was mourning the loss, Cancun opens their doors! They are located in the same shopping plaza as Tulip Noir and Sawasdee Thai Restaurant by 86th Street and Ditch Road. This is my second visit, and it's consistantly good. The decor is quite pretty and makes you feel like you are in a nicer more upscale Mexican restaurant. It's even date appropriate! I ordered a chicken quesadilla the first time, and there were fresh veggies with nicely grilled chicken strips. Very delicious. Today I ordered a speedy gonzalez with soft chicken taco. The chicken was moist, tender, and juicy. The enchilada was also good paired with the mexican rice. The best part is still the chips and salsa. The salsa has a spicy kick to it and makes you grabbing more and more. They actually provide every individual with their own bowl of salsa, so YES YOU CAN DOUBLE DIP! :) Service is pretty good. Everyone was very friendly and accomodating. It's definitely a great new addition to the north side.

Yes! Go! Don't even think twice about this place if you're craving some authentic Mexican cuisine! Very nice inside, very clean, very friendly staff, very large portions (couldn't finish my plate), and very authentic. I thought the price was reasonable for the quality of food. Can't think of the last Mexican restaurant in Indy where I thought something was spicy and actually had flavor to it!

Went to this place for dinner tonight with my friend and was not impressed with our server. He asked us to leave because he was done with his shift. He had already asked us to pay our bills, which we did. I understand doing that if he needs to leave, but then 15 minutes later he asked us to leave so he could clean the table. (He had already taken all our dishes away.) There was no wait, in fact many tables were empty. The restaurant was not closed or close to closing time. I've never been asked to leave a table because a server's shift was over! We had eaten dinner and were just having a nice time talking. No drinking and were not being obnoxious or loud, just chatting. I will not go back now. I don't understand why some other server or even a manager couldn't wipe down our table after we left rather than ask us to leave so this particular server could end his shift. The Carmel location is great so I will keep my business there.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
