The food wasn't very fresh and some of our group thought some dishes tasted funny. No white rice, either!

This has to be one of the most unfriendly, dirty, luck warm food item restaurant I have ever been into. It was 330 pm on a Thursday and there were numerous tables that needed bussed. The bussing tubs and cart were full sitting get right next to the buffet line and clean silverware .. need I go on. I should have pickup on these things when I first stepped in. I will never go back and suggest you stay away from places like this as they don't care about the customer experience so why give them your hard earned money. Go to Panda Express inatead. They will go out of their way to make your experience a good one.

My first encounter with this restaurant came when it was raining hard enough that I didn't want to go out for food, but I wanted something other than pizza. I noticed they delivered via GrubHub, and one of their menu items was black pepper chicken--a favorite dish from Chinese buffets, but almost never available as an a-la-carte item. So I ordered it in for delivery. And then a few days later, I was passing by the restaurant, and decided to stop in and get the same dish for carry-out. In both of those cases, the food was hot and fresh, accompanied by plenty of rice, and was present in such a huge quantity that I was able to get two or three meals out of it. It was great, and next time I have a craving for black pepper chicken I'm definitely going to order out. (I'll call ahead then bike down to pick it up, so I don't have to pay GrubHub's delivery fees or wait for 20 minutes while they cook it.) Good enough. So a few days after that, I decided to head down to eat supper at the buffet, as it's been a while since I'd eaten at a Chinese buffet and it seemed to be the only such place reasonably close that I could find. And...well, it was all right, but that's all I'd call it. I'm used to buffets that have three or four separate tables full of stuff. Best Taste just had the one. And they didn't even have my favorite, black pepper chicken, as it was just a lunch buffet item! Egg rolls were decent. Crab rangoon was pretty good, though only lukewarm when I tried it. (I will give them props for not making the usual style where there's a tiny little dot of crab mix and four huge corners of unpalatable dry pastry; theirs is more like a square of pastry folded over into a triangle with a good helping of the stuff in the middle.) Hot and sour soup was good, though not spectacular. There were a couple of exotic dishes I hadn't seen at other buffets, such as the sauteed squid, and the dishes that were there were decent, but on the whole there just wasn't all that much stuff. There was a salad bar, too, with salad, tapioca pudding, and not much else. The dessert bar consisted of a couple different types of cookies, a cake roll, and jello. (No sushi, either, though given some of the sushi I've seen at other Chinese buffets that's probably just as well.) They didn't even have self-mixed hot mustard, just those standard mustard packets that I tend to consider subpar. I didn't have a bad experience or anything like that. Indeed, the next time the urge for a Chinese buffet is upon me, I'll probably eat there again--there don't seem to be many alternatives here, unlike in Springfield, Missouri where there was a Chinese restaurant on every corner and a buffet on every other corner. If I could give them 3.5 stars, I would--their buffet just rates 3, but I'd give their food-made-to-order 4.

Cheap buffet, cold food, deserts that are mixed in with each other (pudding had some hot sauce in it accidentally). Not the best establishment, but not terrible if you are starving.

Much like my dating life, I tend to learn the hard slow arduous way when it comes to ordering from Best Taste. Sometimes, I get this glimmer of hope while glancing over their menu. I want to trust them...I want to know what we have is real, and possibly more than leaving me with a bitter empty feeling. I could be exaggerating (a little) with ordering delivery. However, no. I am not. The buffet itself isn't bad. Actually, I enjoy their huge egg patty. The chicken wings are delicious, the fried whole fish is yummy, the egg rolls are a little greasy, yet still tempting. The buffet is quite good, it could use a menu change, especially dessert options. After ordering from here dozens of times, and not truly enjoying it, I think the last straw came today. I ordered Hunan Chicken for my break at work. After being told it would be 50minutes, it was almost 2 hours until the meal arrived. It was underwhelming and cold. Compared to the last time I ordered (bland, soupy, tough beef and veggies) this wasn't "too bad". I did call and ask for a credit, and was firmly told no. I shared half with my coworker, and she didn't think it taste best either. I made a silent vow to not order delivery unless I have the wonton soup or chicken wings- those two choices are worth the wait. Best taste is like that bad boy (or girl), you know is no good for you. Some nights they just seem so right, you have to go back only to be burned again. As much as I don't want to say it, leave it alone unless you know what you're getting into. Know what you want, and what is consistent at being good. I have tried everything from the curry chicken to the off the menu best taste shrimp. Still, I stick with chicken, rice, and wonton soup...that may not say much. Go for the buffet. Order take out if you must...Even then, proceed with caution. :( xoxo

"$8.50." Yes, those were the only words that escaped the mouth of the lady at the counter when I walked in. It's not clear to me why she was so quick and insistent. If she had given me a few more seconds to look around at the place, I would have left the place running! Everything on the hot table looked and tasted the same. Beef or chicken with a brown sauce and vegetables like baby corn, celery, zucchini. Anything that doesn't cost much! In the one dish that had snow peas, the pan was fresh so I went to get some, but there were only a total of 6 peas in the entire pan. WTF?!?! Talk about saving on cost of goods! I didn't try the cold salad bar, or the desert bar because both looked old and scary. I ended up leaving, still slightly hungry, because there was nothing that seemed edible at this place. Walk down the street to Panda Express. You'll get better food for less money!

Disgusting. Food was cold and virtually inedible. Dirty restaurant. The only reason it survives is because it's close to IUPUI.

So when we ended up being too "tired" from a Saturday night out to leave the house the next day, this place got the job done. We ordered delivery. I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars, but as seeing all of the critical reviews - I thought maybe this place could use an extra star bump. Now it seems a lot of these reviews are from dine-in experiences, so I have to again note - ours was fully a delivery experience. We ordered online through GrubHub and had our food in about 50 minutes or so. The food was decent. Not high quality stuff - thats for sure. But it got the job done. I ordered the broccoli & tofu dish and my boyfriend had the sesame chicken... And for the price - definitely would recommend. My broccoli & tofu was actually delicious - Tobi seemed to pick through his "chicken" but finished it surely with some remnants on the side. Being in the stage of wanting to eat my hangover away, I also ordered the fried biscuits which turned out to be something similar to donuts - probably the best part of our meal. And oh yeah, the veggie rolls = no bueno (I don't know how to say "no good" in Chinese, so Mexican will have to do.) If you are contemplating ordering veggie rolls - don't. (You're welcome.) Again, the quality was EHHH but it definitely hit the spot and we are full & satisfied. My only two complaints would be that 1) When I called the restaurant to confirm my order - the individual on the other end of the line answered with "hello" and confused the hell out of me (I was wondering if I dialed the right number) - so perhaps they should work on that. And 2) The "fried rice" sucks. Its definitely just bland, yellow colored rice. But for a $5 lunch special, what can you say? If you are hungry, and just looking to get stuffed - order this right meow! Food: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Price: 5/5

Delivery took an hour and a half even though the address was 5 min away, and the food tasted pretty bad. I have absolutely nothing positive to say, except maybe that the almond cookies are passable.

  • Tex B.

poor quality, 2 hour order up wait time, rude service. When I went there - their choices were minimal, but decent. However, all the food tasted old and not good. Everything I got was cold when it was supposed to be hot.

Half a star for the food, another half for the service. I have been eating here occasionally for quite some time yet every time I come here, it gives me the urge to delay my next visit as long as possible. The food isn't all that great. It's your typical localized (Americanized) Chinese food. While it's certainly edible, what let me down was their service. Not that they are being rude or anything, but from my previous experiences, their kitchen stopped working from 8.30 pm though their closing hour is 10 pm. Many times I've been there for dinner, waiting patiently, hoping that they might whip up some refills for their dishes. Yet many times I was disappointed.

Food wasn't the freshest but didn't taste terrible. Limited buffet options and a lot of the meat had been picked out of the pans. Best tasting stuff was the sugar biscuits, fried bananas and the almond cookies. Wouldn't go back unless I was out of other options.

Three stars because I honestly think this place is decent for the price you'll pay. I mean if you want all you can eat for less than $10 then don't expect a 5 star filet mignon! I think it's simple, basically everything tastes the same. I like their fried chicken n sauce, also enjoy their Sesame chicken. I have been here with friends, we basically sit for a couple of hours take several rounds to get our food. They have ice cream n green tea.

Sad excuse for a Chinese buffet. The only (and I'm serious when I say "only") decent food they had was sugar rolls. Everything else was disgusting.

Best Taste now offers delivery. We ordered two entrees and soup last night. The portions were very generous, although I had to zing up the hot and sour soup to my liking. I preferred it to the buffet, probably because it hadn't been sitting out for a while.

Ate there once. My girlfriend is now afraid of Chinese buffets. Disgusting, fly ridden, and cold food. I don't often write negative reviews, but this is one of the worst excuses for a restaurant I've seen. If you enjoy feeling sick after your meals, this one's for you.

This Chinese buffet is in our groups lunch rotation. The buffet is good, nothing exceptional but solid. The nice part is you can get eating right away and still make it back to work on time. The work hard to keep the buffet stocked and their system works great. One of our group favorites!

Ordered via GrubHub.com and it took at least an hour for it to be delivered! Ordered 2 items and 1 of the items was incorrect. I realized this mistake when the delivery guy left. Taste was ok but in terms of accuracy of order and efficiency, this deserves a 0/5 stars.

I have been to this restaurant many times. The food is not outstanding, but decent. I give it a 6.5 out of 10. Last time, I was there, I politely asked for a to go cup for water. I was told it would be 50 cents extra. I didn't think this was a good business practice, especially in regards to a loyal customer. I won't be back.

I've been to worse... but not many places this bad. You walk in and pay at the register. Then you shuffle over and pick through the 10 or 15 items on the lukewarm steam tables. Food is kinda sad and tired. Room and furniture is kinda sad and tired. Nothing about this place is appetizing. Probably not going back.

Terrible. I'm pretty low maintenance but this was not good. I did takeout. The cashew chicken was surprisingly tasteless and the cream cheese wontons had no cheese but instead a meat that actually tasted a bit "off." Bummer-I love a good dive but this wasn't worth even the cheap prices.

My review is for delivery order. Totally an American taste Chinese Food ! Seriously... But I didn't mean that its taste not good. Actually, its tasty (I mean the delivery food, not buffet. ) . Unlike other American style Chinese Food. They don't use too much sugar and oil for stir-fry. Love the Tofu w. Veg home style and Kung Pao Chicken here. They also served rice with every dish. Good for the lazy person who doesn't have time to cook but want enjoy chinese food at home. They use a short time for delivery. NIce attitude to customers.

Neighborhood: IUPUI Rank: Very very very limited buffet at a less than reasonable price. Only 1 buffet bar. I will not be returning.

Review for takeout only, not the buffet. Forgot to bring my lunch to work and needed something super quick. Had a craving for some MSG and my week's worth of sodium so I called BTCR for a take-out order. It was ready in less than 10 minutes, and wasn't just scooped up from the buffet because I had it special ordered. It hit the spot. Standard Chinese place. Greasy and yummy!

There are better Chinese Buffets. It's kind of dirty. Also, I have eaten here twice and my stomach ends up hurting afterward.

My review are for the buffet, take out n delivery. The buffet was great, there are around 28 to 30 different kind of dishes out in the bar, also desserts ice cream and fruits. For the price of 6.95 for lunch and 7.95 for dinner with drinks included was a great price for a fast food or a family gather. The place might not seem very new but food is great, during lunch hrs the place are pack with pple, food are fresh cause they make replacement fast once the items are out. If the food are cold they are willing to heat it up or make new foods out. Great service. Called in for a pick up was really fast, made fresh food in less than 5 mins. Delivery during lunch n dinner hrs takes 45 mins around, is takes pretty long wait but the food still fresh and hot because they don't make the food right when u call, they estimate the time when the delivery guy are back then they make the food so tat it will be fresh. At first I didn't kno why the food still hot n fresh when it takes like 50 mins to get to my place then the cashier told me tat, which is great.

This place has tasty food with typical prices and portion sizes. They are typically very busy at lunch which is a good sign, and they have a great lunch buffet for $6.50

Decor: medium sit in/take out restaurant ok for medium to large groups. Sitting areas were clean. Food: have been ordering out with this place. Have tried General Tsos chicken, chow mei fun (thin noodles), stir fried dumplings, BBQ ribs over rice. I thought the food was average and standard for a chinese take out restaurant. If you wanted a quick fix at a reasonable price, generous portion sizes, then Best Taste should suffice for a chinese restaurant for an american clientele. Service: Average. They are quick in service so know exactly what you want Would recommend If there were no other alternatives. For other more superior options, try Lucky Lou's Seafood restaurant and perhaps Szechuan Garden. They also have dim sum (which I consider a sign of a legitimate try at authenticity).

Tried this restaurant for the first time today (and used grubhub to set up delivery). Delivery was earlier than promised and the sesame chicken was good with a very generous portion. If I had to find a complaint it would be no soy sauce provided but such a minor issue for me and I really didn't miss it once I tried the food.

I don't get all the hate for this place. It's a Chinese buffet, people. It's called "Best Taste." What were you expecting? It's not gonna be PF frickin Chang's. The food is fresh, and they are quick to replenish it, which doesn't always happen at buffets. In terms of Chinese buffets, that deserves 4 stars in and of itself. And they allow you to take it to go if you don't want to eat in. Uhm, awesome? If you go after nine, a take out box is only $5 and if they are out of something on the buffet you want, they will bring out more for you. This place kind of rocks.

  • Beverly C.

My expectations were low when I walked in, but yeah there is nothing special about this place. None of the food is covered. Most of it wasn't even hot. Overall it's just kind of dirty and the food simply wasn't good. The cookies were hard and a fly was around it. I tried a bit of everything and wasn't impressed. I think if you get something that's made to order it would be hot and possibly a good meal. Probably wont ever be back.

Yesterday I had the most undesirable Chinese food I've had in a while, at the buffet in this shack. You see, I have a few food sanctuaries that I usually stick to, including Sichuan, Golden Wok (East St), and Yen Ching (E Washington), but once in a while it's good to taste something in sharp contrast just so I am reminded how good my favorite places are. This place served that purpose. Most of the buffet items were tasteless, but to its credit, there were plenty of veggies (broccoli is in half of the dishes), and one of the pork dishes tasted good. The price point is OK (under $7 for lunch buffet), but I prefer a fresh & tasty take out at Food King (86th) for under $5.

Run of the mill Chinese. I do like the to-go buffet option. Pay by the pound.

    (3)
  • Megan W.

I saw a cockroach walking around the plates by the food. I am never going back there!

    (1)
  • Thu N.

This is just a mediocre typical run of the mill chinese buffett. They are quick to put food out. Lots of mushrooms and broccoli stir fried into everything. It's almost cafeteria style when they get busy mostly around lunch on the weekdays when all the people from the surrounding hospitals, IUPUI, students, and downtown professionals pack the area. Sometimes you will dine with strangers but everyone is in and out pretty quickly. There is limited parking since they share a lot with qdoba, when harry met salad, subway, au bon pain, and a few other pizza restaurants surrounding. You pay before you sit down. Service is quick they refill the buffet pretty fast and the bus boys come and get your dirty plates out of the way as soon as you are done. You serve yourself to the fountain drinks. Dessert ad salad are on a seperate bar but there's plenty of food I usually don't venture that way much. All the food is similar to what you would find anywhere. It's good to go if you can't decide on any 1 thing, like to see what you are eating and like a little of everything. Tipping can't be done on the credit card when you pay I don't think so bring a few dollars in cash if ya wanna leave a tip for the guys clearing your mountains of dishes and silverware. They also sell food by the pound for takeout.

General Ts is solid!!! Delivery only took 12 mins!

Delivered to Riley. Took about 45 mins on a Friday evening. General Tso's Chicken was good. Egg rolls were decent. I like lo mien, but it was not as good as I hoped. Overall decent food.

  • Rachael W.

Yawn.....Boring and borderline eww. Typical buffet that is super busy for lunch with some very large people. It's a lot of fried, sauced, and unrecognizable pieces of things. I try to pick out mostly vegetables and the meat nuggets that look most like chicken. It's a $6.75 I would rather spend elsewhere.

    (2)
  • Kami L.

I think the food here is kinda gross, but if you're happy with really cheap mediocre buffet Chinese, this is probably your bag. Popular with students during lunch time especially.

    (2)
  • Lee L.

Mediocre Taste would be a more sufficient name. Nothing about this place is best. It just relies on it's steady traffic from the college to keep it afloat. Drive up the road a bit, you'll find better.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
