If you're drunk, there's no better place to go than this place. Cheap prices, VERY clean, good waitresses and lots if funny characters eating food on a late night. Good safe place and good food. Perfect.

Came here with that family and it was very nice. My boys had the French Toast and it was delicious. I have the pulled pork with was OK. I would come back with no question asked.

The service was extremely poor. My husband ordered clam chowder and was brought cream of chicken. Chicken looks nothing like a clam and when he told the waitress her response was I don't eat it. The rest of our meal was reminiscent of school cafeteria food from the 70s. Congealed gelatinous gravy instant mashed potatoes that still had dry clumps of flakes a and processed frozen meat patties. We stopped based on the reviews but where we are from this wouldn't have even been on our radar. Maybe lunch and breakfast are good but not dinner.

This place has went on a downward spiral. As you first walk in into the hallway it smells as if someone urinated on the rug then the waitress served me and never not once come back and check on me or refill my coffee cup and to place an exclamation point to it all I sat in there waiting over twenty minutes while the waitresses try to figure out how to reload the credit card machine. I will not be back this is for sure.

Some of the worst service ever, mediocre food at best. Waitress was slow to even take our drink order, then slower to take our food order. She vanished after that and we sat waiting to even get the check. Gave up on the desert that came with the meal.

When I first walked in my first thought was "dirty". The floors were covered in food crumbs and dirt. I decided to give it a chance. The hostess seated us, and our table wasn't even clean! She had to wipe it down with us standing there. Once we sat down my husbands fork had food on it! The waiter gave him a new one. At this point I'm slowly losing my appetite. Then I look up and I see the cook wiping his nose with the back of his hand, while he put out orders. We were about to leave but I didn't feel like lugging the kids to another restaurant. We originally went to Sophias but they were pretty packed. The service was okay, and the food was okay. We ordered pancakes. They were really fluffy. However, I will not be eating at ten particular location. Take your chances if you would like. ETA: I only to stomach eating a bit of my food.

It seams as if it has gone down hill. Fact of the matter is that our standards increased as we got older. Still a great teen/twenteen hang out that I would never forget. Still go there once in a blue moon but thats purely for nostalgia. Great staff not so great food but it does ghe job at two in the morning.

Talk about sloooow service, and a loooong wait for food. The food was delicious at least which is the only reason this place didn't get a 1 or two star rating. I guess if you come in at a slower time it wouldn't be as bad but I don't think I'll be making a return visit.

Update time... Friday morning... 2 or so am... drunk, hungry needing coffee - sound familiar? Well, this time around, things were a lot better! We were seated and served almost instantly, coffee right away and the cup was never ever empty. My "I'm drunky, want foody" staple of Biscuits and Gravy was hot hot and really hit the spot! Place is pretty cheap too, $15 or so bucks for 2 people... not bad. I'll give 'em the redemption star. I'm not super impressed but hey, it was 10x better than the last time. SYOY

my wife and i come here all the time really good food and service and we order to go still good when we get home but the person im guessing the hostess has no people skills but still a good place to eat

  • Eric A.

I had the biscuits and gravy, scrambled egg, and bacon. Everything was good. The strange thing is that my brother got a poached egg and they charged an extra .50 for the poached egg. Kind of strange. The food and service were good though.

On Sunday mornings after church, I try to enjoy a nice breakfast...sometimes its coming home and whipping up something, other times it means going out...yesterday I chose the latter and decided to make the Steer my place for a bite to eat as I know the food is good and not that pricey. I was not disappointed with the Everything Omelette I had....very cheesy and had the right amount of other ingredients in it...and I like the fact you get the choice of toast or pancakes with it (and in some cases French Toast). Yes there is a smoking section in this restaurant but I did not smell it from my area. The wait staff wasn't bad but they could have come more often with the coffee refills. All in all a good experience as it usually is....not too crowded (got seated right away), and good food for a decent price...oh yea and bonus is they are open 24/7.

Excellent. Great omelets and hash browns. Tons of choices on the menu - love the variety. Potato skins were HUGE. Last meal I had there was turkey with dressing and mashed potatoes. Delicious! Stuffing and potatoes were homemade, and the gravy was perfect. Vegetable soup also two thumbs up. If I lived closer I would eat here alot.

The Purple Steer has been a staple for my friends, boyfriend, and I for quite some time when we're hungry late at night. We haven't had very many problems, in fact, no major ones I can think of off the top of my head. At times, the service can be slow but other than that we don't have any complaints. We live nearby so the drive is nothing, and the food continually satisfies. My favorite dish on the menu is the BLT Club sandwich - with some ranch to dip everything! - I believe this place deserves more credit. It may not be perfect or mind blowing, but it's certainly a decent place to catch some breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I recommend it!

Another off hours early morning breakfast place for me ....its okay to average food. The place sees to draw the night shift or after work or after bar crowed a few times I have been there there were some rowdy drunks but nothing to keep anyone from going .......wait staff is friendly but not over working themselves seems like you have to flag them down for anything extra you might want

S O S for the Purple Steer! I was a regular. Two or three times a week or more. It used to be very convienient. It is almost like it has been taken over by new owners who have no idea of the food business. Sunday morning 10 am. A busy day. The moman who is trying to work the cash register is also trying to wait on customers at the counter. It doesn't work. The Purple Steer has the slowest kitchen on Indianapolis Blvd . No Joke here. There are too many other good restaurants with good service on Rt 41 to waste your time here. They have to learn that you just can't dump on regular customers. They will spend their money elsewhere. Hire more help!

The food is good and the price is reasonable. The service is quick but not always the friendliest. Has smoking section which I don't care for but itsn't horrible if you are seated far from the smokers.

Open all night with decent food - sign me up! I have visited many a late night for a grilled cheese and a bowl of lemon rice soup. It definitely hits the spot. It isn't the fanciest place to go, but it's cheap, hearty, and delicious. Sign me up.

One of my faves, a lot of options to choose from. I love the hot wings and the breakfasts are really good. It's open 24 hrs so that's a plus. Jamie is awesome!!

  • Merrill N.

I love their late 80's/early 90's decor and sour cream crepes with orange sauce. If you're lucky, they'll be playing 90's music, and you'll feel like you're in a fantastic time warp.

  • Matt L.

Not sure about the folks who gave great reviews. My wife and I had lousy service and the cherry sauce on my cherry crepes was rancid. Literally made me sick. Will never go there again, advice others to avoid as well.

Great place for a good lunch. The lunch will keep you full all day that you can't even eat dinner! Wait staff is good, not too outgoing, but they work fast and efficient, which is what we like. Never had a mistake in the order and they often check on you and get you what you need.

The Steer is possibly the best twenty -four hour restaurant in the area as far as food is concerned. It's good all day long, and all night long. The majority of the wait staff is not so friendly or efficient, but a couple of them are just fine. It's a nice place to get coffee in the wee hours of the night and early morning, just like "Round the Clock". Their "Stuffed French Toast' is excellent. I was hooked on it for awhile.

  • Jason S.

I love going to this place, especially when I'm low on money or I want to save my money, but still able to eat enough where I'm full. There is one waitress there who is really beautiful and I'll admit that me and my friends often go there just to see her. Every once in a great while the service isn't that great, but once you get past that, you'll see it's a pretty good place to eat at any time of the day or night.
