Wow. I live in Dallas and there isn't an Indonesian restaurant in the entire DFW metroplex. Here I am just south of Indianapolis for a conference, and a legit Indonesian restaurant pops up on yelp in small town Greensburg, IN. I grew up in Indonesia and will do a lot for a taste of authentic Indonesian food, so I was thrilled when my husband agreed to swing by and we got to stop for dinner. It was amazing. We had some Indonesian staples: beef rendang, gado gado with chicken satay, and soto ayam. It was SO good, and our favorite was the soto ayam, which is chicken soup, but unlike any chicken soup you've ever had by American standards. The flavors are complex and, well, you should try it. Maya, the owner (who is Indonesian), came out the chat with us, and she and her daughter were bubbly and delightful. She's pouring her heart into the place and she loves to cook. The restaurant is cozy, decorated with some traditional Indonesian decor, and located right in the heart of Greensburg (they probably have no idea how lucky they are). Because I'm tired of never finding Indonesian food around, let me briefly advocate for the style and tell you should try it. Mayasari some pan-Asian options like sushi and shabu-shabu that Americans might know more about, but even just ordering the Indonesian-style fried rice would be a great idea. Indonesian food is similar to Thai or Chinese, so you won't be too far out of your comfort zone. Indonesian food uses a lot of peanut sauce and some particular spices that make it stand out. Maya told me she makes her own hot sauce (sambal), but most things won't come really spicy unless you specify that that's how you want it.

Great food with very friendly owners, both of which are welcoming and helpful. A gem in the heart of Greensburg.

Umm... All I can say is wow! The food is phenomenal. Probably some of the best food I've ever had in my entire life ;) The staff/owner are so friendly as well. They can also cater to any food allergy/sensitivities if you need. The mango tea was amazing and the lamb so tasty. Everything was perfect!

Nice lil gem between cin cin and Indy. Worth the stop. Family owned and authentic foods. Owners are serving and cooking. Very passionate about their heritage and pride in cooking their dishes. Recommend beef curry. Also I would've paid more. Was priced better then expected. Will visit again when traveling by greensburg. Decor is average. However I had my head buried in the amazing dishes so it didn't effect the experience.

My friend and I visited this restaurant yesterday. Don't let the rather plain appearance of the decor or limited menu choices fool you - the food and the presentation were outstanding! The service was exceptional and the owner visited with us for several minutes. As was well explained by our server, Indonesian curry is not spicy hot, but very flavorful. For the less experimental, there was also a burger and grilled tenderloin choice. We will be back!

My wife & I visited for the first time, and it was fantastic! Beef curry was so tasty, Mango ice tea was amazing. (Contains real mango juice & dices of fruit in it!) Desert was phenomenal too ! Everything is made from scratch, no artificial flavoring, no preservative... Even chicken broth is home made. 1 appetizer, 2 entrees. 1 desert with mango ice tea & rose hot tea (includes real rose bud) cost us only $34 with tax! Enjoyed chatting with owner (& cook), and we felt great hospitality as well. Great taste, cost, & hospitality. We would definitely go back again! (Our Japanese taste buds definitely agreed!) Highly recommended !

Delicious! I'm not familiar with Indonesian cuisine, but everything I've received from Mayasari is absolutely amazing. Mayasari offers a BLT served on a cucumber instead of bread, which is great for a diet friendly meal. Their fruit plate of strawberries, papaya, mango, cucumber, and pineapple is spot on, both in flavor and freshness. Mayasari is the only local establishment offering sushi, which will always get extra stars from me (as long as the sushi is fresh and palatable, which theirs most definitely is). Top any meal off with a fresh mango tea and you're set! I haven't gotten the opportunity to try a lot of what they offer on their menu, but have definitely been satisfied with everything so far.

This place is amazing! I'm so glad Greensburg is getting more diverse restaurants that don't serve only pizza and burgers. I was in town visiting after a wedding, and my family got together here for lunch. I love the soup they served, and the tea. The owner is very nice. Definitely hitting up this place when I'm home again so I can try the sushi!

This place is a diamond in the rough. Great, authentic cuisine. Try the beef curry, but with hot sauce level 2 as a 1 is not spicy at all.

One of the best ethnic restaurants in southeast Indiana! I enjoyed the beef curry (medium) which came with stir-fried vegetables, Indonesian fried rice, and hard-boiled egg served on a banana leaf. True to Indonesian custom, the soup is offered gratis. It is actually quite tasty, made with lemongrass, ginger, shallots, and other vegetables, I also enjoyed the enthusiasm of owner Maya and her daughter. I will definitely return to sample other dishes such as the BLT Cucumber!

I was in Greensburg on business about a month ago. There wasn't much for variety in terms of restaurants, but I was surprised to see an Indonesian restaurant in this town. I have never had Indonesian food before, but I never shy away from trying something new. First off, my co-worker and I shared some crab rangoons and spring rolls and they were AMAZING. Some of the best crab rangoons I have ever had. I am not sure if these are traditional Indonesian food, but I didn't really care. Then, I ordered a rice dish with chicken and sausage (I forget what it was called) that was super delicious. The owner came over and introduced herself, and was very nice. Also, the price is very reasonable. A quality meal like this back in MA would be twice what we paid. I am back here again this week and will definitely be going back!

Say what? There's an authentic Indonesian restaurant tucked away in tiny ole' Greensburg, IN? Consider this the perfect dining experience for my boyfriend who once lived in Indonesia. From the decorations and friendly owner, Maya, to the delicious beef rendang (that beef was ridiculously tender and flavor-packed), we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Mayasari. A few fun notes: -if you're celebrating a birthday - let Maya know in advance - she has the most ridiculously neat birthday candle you've ever seen -there is a side room that can be reserved - it fits two to four diners (fun, private vibe) -the menu is friendly for those who are not on the adventurous spectrum when it comes to food -if you're new to Indonesian eats, opt for the sampler appetizer - very generous servings of fruit, rolls, etc. -after you're done at Mayasari, check out the 140+yr old tree growing out of the Court House across the street ;) It looks like a scene straight out of Harry Potter.

What a surprise! Delicious Indonesian food hiding in Greensburg, IN. I used to live in Indonesia and these flavors brought me right back. Beef rendang, mie goring, lumpia, satay, fresh pineapple and mango - it all hit the spot! The beef rendang was a little americanized and resembled pot roast in texture. To anyone who has not had rendang before this is probably a good thing. The flavors were pretty spot on, with a little sweetness to go with the savory. I will be back.

Very good pork curry. Crisp fresh vegetables and succulent fruit. Spring rolls were freshly made and the staff was very friendly. I will definitely be back with all of my friends. Can't wait to try something new.

Greensburg has long been lacking any sort of upscale dining experience, and Mayasari is a wonderful surprise on this small town's restaurant "scene". The decor is fresh, and visitors are transported to a modern, tropical Asian destination when walking through the front doors. Overall, the food was fresh and delicious. I wish there were more adventurous, authentic Indonesian dishes on the menu, but this is certainly a wonderful start. We will be back!

Yet another 5 star endorsement. I had the chicken satay and spring roll platter and honestly the lightest airiest rolls EVER. She makes her own dipping sauces and they r lighter and very tasty. The satay sauce was EXCELLENT. I have had some over the years that were terrible but I absolutely loved this. Afraid I wolfed this down it was so good! Highly recommend u trying this. We marked our home location on their map. There r many many others from all over the world! Try it!!!

The owners, Rick and Mayasari, are welcoming and sweet and full of stories about Indonesia. The food is delicious. For those who might worry they can't stomach Indonesian food, it wasn't spicy or strange tasting. My picky 9-year-old turned his nose up to the menu but nearly licked his chicken satay plate clean. My dad had the sautéed mushrooms as his side and gobbled them right up. The rice had a lovely sweet sauce on it. We ordered one of each of the desserts and they were all very good. This restaurant is one of only two Indonesian restaurants in the Midwest, and the food is definitely authentic. We highly recommend it to everyone!

Great little restaurant in greensburg. First time eating here and the staff was awesome. Took the time to explain the menu, the owners can out and talked with us and our kids. They explained their experiences and some of the items from Indonesia. The food was good as well, will definitely be going back

OUTSTANDING!! The best Indonesian food I've had states-side EVER! If you live in, or are visiting Indiana, do yourself a HUGE favor--make the drive to Greensburg, a quick 50 minutes from INDY, and try this fabulous restaurant!! Family owned and run, they are so nice and hospitable AND take such exceptional pride in Mayasari's heritage...EVERY ITEM on their menu refects this! While there are outstanding choices and meals more "americanized", PLEASE DON'T MISS the opportunity to try several of the exceptional and authentic Indonesian dishes! You can't miss the Gado-Gado, Rendang, Spring Rolls, Satay, Mie Goreng, Shabu-Shabu and superb small or large Platter Mixed Appetizer. Every item is beautifully presented and DELICIOUS! I always search out every larger city I visit just in case they have an Indonesian restaurant. Believe me, you won't find many, if any, between San Fran and NYC. This is an exceptional GEM in the mid-west...what a treat!! BTW, if you absolutely insist on something more "american", their Tenderloin Sandwich is also unbelievable. Can't wait for my next trip to INDY so I can return!

Do not miss this place. It is worth a trip. I had the lunch beef curry. I started with a lovely broth soup with delicate vegetables in it. The curry was terrific, tender pot roast beef, with rice, and wonderful vegetables. The best part was the homemade hot pepper sauce! Mayasari, the chef, says that 90% of the ingredients are grown for her by local farmers including the banana leaf the food is placed on in the plate. The sweet mango tea was wonderful with copious refills. And the Cucumber Ketimun with bacon on top was beautifully presented as an appetizer and could have worked for two people! I walked out full! Wonderful service by Mayasari's daughter. An Indonesian experience worth traveling too in the heartland.

Great food, well presented, and very reasonably priced. The curry was excellent; great spice. Had a Greensburg sushi roll as well which featured pulled pork (far better than you'd guess). The mango tea was great. Desert was awesome. The owners are extremely nice and personable. They work hard to create a nice experience. I am going back. A surprising place to find in Greensburg.

What a wonderful coincidence that we stopped at this place. We were driving through Greensburg and stopped for a late dinner. The owners realized our accents and were immediately interested in our background. They walked us around the restaurant and showed us their worldmap with pins of all people who were born outside of Greensburg. We placed our pin and then enjoyed one of the most delicious dinners I've had in years. Will make sure to come back next time in the area, for the amazing food and for the experience.

Yelp says that 2 stars = "Meh. I've experienced better." Well, I haven't technically experienced better because - disclaimer - I've never had Indonesian previously! Was there for lunch with a coworker and we both ordered the lunch special which was $8.95 for beef curry. The beef was about 4 ounces (three small pieces) of what appeared, in every respect, to be pot roast. The spice level options are a 1-3 but they didn't spice the beef at all - they just threw some hot pepper spice mix on top and you could eat as much or little of the spices as you wanted. I actually like that particular concept but why ask for a spice level then? Also, there was zero curry flavor. We didn't notice anything curry at all about anything. It was pot roast, rice, veggies (cabbage, carrots, and onion), and some hot pepper mix in a glob on top of one of my pieces of meat. It also came with a starter of a miso-style soup that had the color of water and similar flavor (mild puts it...mildly....). I note: a photo of the soup taken by someone else showed a more yellow broth - ours had zero color. We also ordered a spring roll to try more of their food and the oil was not hot enough so the spring roll retained a large amount of grease which made it unappetizing as well as soggy on the bottom from all the grease it sat in on the plate. Decor is pretty nifty all said and done. But my coworker had two major issues - a dirty tea mug that had interior black marks that we noticed were not permanent and, sigh, a hair (not her own) in her food. The place seems well maintained so I would hope that these things aren't common. Overall: Two major issues and the food was not great. Service was friendly, I just don't see the 5-star restaurant so many others describe but it's hard to strongly put down a family restaurant that is trying to do a good job.

I travel to Greensburg for client meetings every few months and it was really refreshing to see a restaurant option that wasn't a corporate owned chain. The owner and staff are very knowledgable about the food and can help you decipher what's on the menu and the history of the dish as it relates to the region. There is also a large map that you can pin your hometown, so that was a lot of fun. I definitely recommend it for anyone local or visiting.

I went here with five other people for dinner around 6:30. We were unsure at first but when you walked in we could tell it was the place for us to eat. It has great ambiance and it was just phenomenally decorated. You were overwhelmed with comfortable spices that just enveloped you. The waiter/ co-owner was great he gave us recommendations, told us his life story (which my grandparents appreciated) and listened to my grandparents life story (which my grandparents also appreciated). The explanation of the food as it arrived was so cool especially since it was our first time eating Indonesian. The food was phenomenal all six of us got something different and I tried all of it and it was all fantastic. They were accommodating for people of low tolerance for spice by having items on the menu that were spice free especially when you are traveling with an unadventurous 70 year old We then also bought all 3 of he desserts and they were also all good. A great place to try especially if you are new to Indonesian food. The only bad part about it is that hey don't have one of these in my town!

We were heading back home from an aborted trip to Indianapolis from Cincinnati and stopped by here for an "adventure dinner" with my 7 year old son tonight. Had the BLT appetizer, Nasi Goreng, Lamb Steak with asparagus, and Sesame balls for dessert. All excellent dishes! Great service too. We got to meet the owners. Very warm and welcoming-- felt like you were having dinner at a friend's house. If you've come from afar or lived in other countries, ask about placing a pin on their world map. Terimakasi, Maya and Richard! We'll be back...

I love having this variety in my hometown! Try the Mayasari Burger. You won't be disappointed and what ever you do, do NOT pass on the fried egg on the burger..oh, YUM!

We wer in town for business and were tired of the Chili's and typical restaurant choices. I did some research and found out about this GEM! All I can say is WOW! What a wonderful meal and what wonderful people running the place. This is a true gift and should be frequented as much as possible. The Egg Rolls were light and crispy. The Main dishes were cooked to order with the freshest of ingredients. And the Piez La Resistance were the deserts. Just wonderful and I am defintiely coming back the next time I am in Greensburg. Cheers to the family!
