I've been there twice for lunch. Food was adequate for the price but the service is poor. While the waitress got our orders correct, she might be the slowest waitress in the history of the service industry. It's way out of the way, and I won't make the trip again.

best Detours Restaurant that their is in the town of Geist. The best waiters and waitresses that serve here when we come to dine. The waitress are so kid friendly. I also love the food that they make.

It's our second time here, first time for lunch, this time for dinner. I liked my turkey burger with avocado, but hubby's ribs were dry, and the kiddo's chicken strips were too hard and crunchy. Chicken wings were meaty and pretty tasty. The server and service was mostly attentive and good (she tried her best to please!)

This update is focused on the Sunday morning breakfast buffet. I went with a large group to the Sunday morning buffet. The our table was set with the one kids highchair that we needed, the server got our drinks and was very friendly about repeatedly returning as people arrived. It is very convenient to have a buffet style with a large group and since every other breakfast place I can think of is packed with long wait time (Cracker Barrel for example) on a Sunday morning. I was very happy to dive right into the food. Not to mention if you are with a large group and you show up to another breakfast place forget about eating for an hour or so, am I right?! The food was pretty decent, grapes and pinnacle, eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage patties, waffles, some kind of rice-based lunch item, biscuits and gravy, yogurt and granola, plus a staffed omelette bar / meat carving station (I might be forgetting something). I thought is was good, basic, but breakfast is basic usually, IMO. Think, decent hotel, but not 'Swiss Hotel' nice. Breakfast buffet was affordable, fast, super decent, I would go to this again! In fact, I think I might make a point to check this out again.

Basic bar and food. Cocktails come out ok, have had good and bad ones. Beer selection on draft is limited to same choices, would be good if they got some rotating taps. Food is ok. Nothing to write home about, but ok. Overall, if you want a bite and are near it, meets the needs, but not a destination dining establishment or bar. Near sailing club.

Haven't been to Detour in a long time and decided to stop by the other night. It will be our last time! My husband's wings were small and cold! My grilled chicken Caesar barely had any chicken in it and it appeared that the chicken wasn't fresh ... It didn't taste fresh either. The lettuce was wilted and warm. Our server never stopped by to ask for refills on our drinks. We left very disappointed and felt we just wasted our money!

Very pleasurable service. The boss hog burger was very flavorful, well prepared, good tasting smoked pork and nice bbq sauce.

A hidden gem. On Sundays they have a brunch buffet that has excellent food. The bartenders are awesome and the wait staff is very friendly. This is just a great place to have a couple of drinks and some light fare. I wish the bar was bigger but this is also a family restaurant so it's understandable. We plan on going back every Sunday

We were there before and they knew it too. They tried to seat us at the same table but we put a stop to that. I don't particularly enjoy déjà-vous...do you? Each booth had a tv and think there's a secret camera gathering data on our eating and seating habits. How else would they know what we wanted before we did? I hope we looked good in our snapshots.

Kids enjoyed the experience! I had the Boss Hog burger, it was very good. I missed the sweet potato fries on the menu but my husband saw it and ordered them. I got to sample his and good gracious! They were amazing! I contemplated giving him a throat punch, so I could have the rest. Lol

If I owned this building, I'd be begging Scotty's to come back to avoid an empty corner in the next year. Service is incredibly slow, all the food we tried tasted straight out of a can or bag. When my tenderloin came, I was asked if I needed anything else. I asked for mustard. I sat there for 5+ minutes, and never saw the guy again. So I ate my cold tenderloin and tried to pay our bill as quick as possible to get out of here (which took over 10 minutes because the server said "I thought you'd pay in cash" so she didn't bother to come back after bringing us the bill). I'm giving 2 stars out of the goodness of my heart, and because I want to see local businesses occupy these spots in Geist. Just not this business.

Boring. Menu looks decent but the reviews really turned me off. This place really needs something to create an atmosphere here.

If you look at the 2015 reviews, you'll notice this place is on the uptick. Wednesday night trivia is packed and the food and drinks work. Living nearby, this is now my favorite local place. My recommendations include wings, nachos, tachos, Philly quesadilla, and still working my way through the menu.

Loved the atmosphere here.. My son ordered the chicken and Tatar tots were very good and I ordered Mile high nachos very interesting.. could share between several people

I have been to Detour probably 5 or 6 times since they opened, food is decent, other than burgers, which I have ordered twice and both times have been well done and then some, when ordered medium. Buffalo chicken wrap and waffle fries are really tasty! Low score is due to service, the last two visits the service has been so bad that it is awkward to even interact with the waitress. Slow service, 20 minutes to get a drink on a slow night, waitress blamed the bartender but we didn't really believe her. We have decided that we will only return to sit at the bar and have a drink and watch basketball, we have always had great service from the bartenders.

New menu tried the planko breaded tenderloin very good also sampled the grilled shrimp tacos. Loaded tater tots were off the chain.

My wife and I decided to check out Detou for dinner this past Friday. Our first time since they converted from Scotty's. I had the Fried Pickles and Flat Bread Veggie Pizza. My wife had the Tomato Soup and Tacos. The soup was too thick, but the Tacos were very good. I liked the pickles (well seasoned) and the pizza was ok. The sauce on the pizza was too sweet. Detour seems like a great place to take a family. There were lots of kids running around. If we go back, we will make sure to be seated in the bar area.

I had their waffle fries and sliders. The fries were really good and exceeded my expectations, the sliders were also quite good. Refills were a bit slow though but the servers were nice and the food came out fast. Ive eaten here in the past and it too was good. They're a good restaurant but sadly not the best area for them purely because they're hidden on a residential road. But overall i was happy :)

I went here about 2 weeks after it opened. It was safe to say that the service was bad and the beer was warm. Warm beer is like drinking hot water!! I figured it was just a new business and they had some stuff to iron out. I went back this past Thursday because it's close to home and I thought I would give it a second try. The servove was ok but the food was just horrible. We ordered the nachos and the chips were somewhat stale and they use canned chicken and some kind of cheese from a jar. I love food and usually don't leave much behind but between the 3 of us we didn't make it through 1/4 of the nachos. I won't be back until its something different!! I'm guessing that will be soon!!!

They are doing something right! My wife and I have been here twice before and both times were not the greatest. However, we decided to try detour again after about a year. We sat at the bar on Saturday night and the service was great. The bartender talked to us about all the changes that have been made and in our opinion they are heading in the right direction. The "mile high" nachos were amazing and true to form they could barely fit on the plate. We then shared the fajitas and were extremely impressed when they arrived on a sizzling platter. Our bartender informed us that kids eat free every Tuesday and Thursday so we will definitely be coming back here for more!

The food was just ok. I had fish and it was dry and overcooked. There are also expense for what you get.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night at 7pm. Its pretty much the same setup and atmosphere of what used to be Scotty's Lakehouse, which is a good thing. We were seated in one of the spacious and private booths with its own flatscreen tv. The menu is a little larger and more diverse than Scotty's Lakehouse was. They have a good selection of starters, entrees, sandwiches, burgers, and macs. There is also a decent selection of draft beer including a few micros. I had the veggie burger with waffle fries. My wife had the turkey burger with sweet potato fries. My wife's fries were a little on the cold side but everything else was delicious. It was a very filling veggie burger with a tasty bun. The waffle fries were perfect. The service was friendly and efficient which earns it 4 stars. We'll be back.

Kids and I thought it was great. They had the Sunday brunch, which had an omelet bar and roast beef carving station. I had the salmon salad. Everything was great and service was excellent.

Good food, great drinks, friendly staff. We want to come back and review brunch! We had mahi fish tacos, chips and queso and bloody marys. Great Sat lunch! Bloody marys were made to order, tacos were flavorful with mango salsa, And chips and queso were fresh with fresh jalapeños. The salsa with them leaves something to be desired, but otherwise, delicious! I recommend checking out this place if you haven't been, and if you are bringing your kids, they have a great arcade area!

My son (age 5) and I came in to try the new breakfast menu. He had the French toast with a side of bacon. I tried a bite of he French toast. It was delicious! I thought the bacon was good before but they have new bacon from Moody's Meats! It is sweet and smokey! I had a spicy chorizo breakfast burrito. It comes in a tomato basil wrap. It was spicy but not too spicy. It comes with house made salsa which added a freshness to each bite. We will definitely be back.

Just came back after a long time and ordered a couple of small plates. (Thrilled they have small plate options) I tried the Cajun Shrimp which comes with a spicy cole slaw. BOTH wonderful and the cole slaw was very fresh and unique. The other was an Asian Beef Kabob with a nice soy dipping side. Also came with the same slaw. Very filling and extremely tasty. Good job and this addition!! I heard the beef tip kabob is seasonal so you will want to try this one soon! I came again on a Wednesday which is very busy and very popular night. Knowing the neighborhood it's crazy between 7-830pm but they have done a good job of improving the movement of service during this hectic hour in the "burbs".

Since this place changed its menu in June, it has been very good. The shrimp tacos are great, and it now has some of the best salads in town: cobb, seafood cobb, and spinach salads are very tasty.

Uneventful. This was my first time since Scotty's Lake House. It wasn't better or at least the same therefore it was worse. Two different local microbrews tasted flat. Server was real good. Food average. Geist prices. Best part of the visit was IU beat Michigan State. Prob won't b back for a while. Feedback to management: Get rid of the corny named menu items. Lead with the hand crafted local brews. Be more sports friendly. Three people for greeters up front and I'm not sure I was ever greeted. If your going to have greeters, then have them greet!

My wife and I have eaten here twice in as many months. We both had burgers and sides. We agreed that the burgers were very good, but not the greatest we have ever had. On both visits we found the service to be a bit lacking. Ok - we found this weird on the last visit - the ketchup tasted vinegary. We could not figure out why, but it was a little hinky. I am sure we will return, especially when our dinner plans conflict with a football game.

  • Libby B.

Definitely average food. I was really excited to try their mac & cheese since they have a whole section of dinner-sized varieties. I got the 3 cheese mac as a side to my tenderloin, and it was dry as all the creaminess had moved to the bottom so I don't know if it sat a while before being brought out or what. The bun to my sandwich was definitely the size you buy at the grocery store. Tenderloins, as a rule, are not going to even come close to that size, but at a restaurant, I'd like a bigger bun than what I can buy. My husband's burger was so small and the meat was pretty dry. His amber beer was somewhat warm so they may have served it in an already-warm glass or just not a very cold tap. Service was somewhat slow, but they were very busy, and I talk a lot so I don't always mind that. The one thing I enjoyed was the Mother Pucker drinks. They use the Pucker flavored vodkas and you get to keep the fun plastic cup! Overall though, very "meh". (As an aside, this used to be Scotty's Lakehouse. Everything down to the napkins is the same inside, but not the food.)

Had our second meal here today and, unfortunately, it will be our last. Had lunch here about a month ago and thought the service was bad, but decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt. Well, there is no doubt now that it will benefit us to never eat here again. Three people in restaurant and we waited for every waitress visit as if there were three hundred. Waitress had no interest in making it a pleasant experience for us, so we had no interest in giving a generous tip. Food was fine, but average food + bad service + many other choices = closing soon. Skip this place.

This was my first time in since Scotty's Lakehouse closed. I can't tell you how disappointed I was and how much I yearned for the old establishment. The setup is exactly the same but service and food were abysmal. The "hostesses" spent the majority of the time in a huddle around the podium gossiping. The fajitas I ordered were over cooked and barely seasoned. I've had better at Taco Bell. There was hardly anyone there on a Thursday night colts game and Now I know why. I just hope a Scotty's Lakehouse returns at some point because this place is close to awful.

We were in the area and stopped for breakfast/brunch. It was very simple, mostly breakfast items but the only lunch item was roast beef. It was tender and delish though. The guy making omlets made them perfect for us. My hubster who doesn't usually like them said they were great. My dislikes were that the cook put green peppers in the hash browns which grossed me out due to my allergies. I wish I would have known but didn't ask because most don't do that. The waitress started out OK but a little over the top fake and wasn't around to refill water or bring A1 or something for our beef. There were no sauces offered for it and horseradish sauce etc would have been nice . The place was family friendly w/lots & lots of kids. No problem for us, but we would have sat in the bar. All and all it was OK, but a little pricey @ 12.50 a piece.

My husband and I went in late and ordered the tempura shrimp, it is way too breaded and greasy and coated with spicy mayo. I think it should be lighter, and the sauce should absolutly be served on the side. They should totally rethink that particular dish. We did have a super great waiter, without question he took it off the bill. I personally think they have more variety than Scotty's menu and I look forward to going back to try other dishes.

Don't get me wrong the food was great, but our waitress was a short rude Asian girl with glasses named Alexis.starting with the food our experience was excellent! My son chose the loaded Mac and he was not dissapointed, my wife got the ahi tuna because she is a sushi fan and she really enjoyed it, and I got bypass sandwich that was big and juicy and had delicious Au ju sauce to dip it in. Now here is where our experience was disappointing, after we were seated our server Alexis did not greet us or ask us what we would like to drink for nearly 20 minutes! When we finally talked to her for the first time she rushed us saying "can you kind of hurry, because I have 2 other large tables to take care of" while I was deciding if I should buy a beer but her remark made me lose my thirst for a beer and I just got water. After we got our drinks it took her another 20 minutes to ask us what we wanted to eat and when she did we asked her what she recommended and she said " I don't know I don't really think the food here looks that good." Thank god we had been here before because if we had not she would have gave us the impression the food is not very special or better than any other restaurant and we would have eaten else where. She also had a rude attitude and made my family feel like we were a burden to her. All in all we will come back to eat again but we will request to not have Alexis as our server. I hate to give this great restaurant a 2 star rating but it was a 4 star on the food and a 0 star on the service so it balanced out at 2 stars.

My first visit here was with my family for lunch. The food and service were fine. I saw that they served a Sunday brunch, and took my family and dad there for their Father's Day Brunch Buffet. There was very little to choose from, and the roast beef was extremely well done. We and several other patrons seemed to be wandering around looking for something edible and waiting for more items and/or fresh batches to come out, which never did. I asked several times for a new roast, and was eventually told that the buffet was over in 30 minutes and they weren't bringing anymore out. That of course did not stop them from letting newly seated customers order the brunch, however. Needless to say, this was the only time that I left a restaurant more hungry than when I walked in...especially a brunch buffet. There were no apologies and no compensating. Although their burgers were fine that I had for lunch on my initial visit, I will never go back to this restaurant. I anticipate that it won't last long either.

I went here for the first time when they have the ribs special , they were dry. not so good. my friend had a groupon we came back again to use it, had a fish tacos order , its ok better than the ribs and nacho.

I went for the Sunday Brunch Buffet, and honestly would have rather stayed home and cooked myself. The service was low standard. We walked in and stood for 10 minutes an no one ever came to the front- so I grabbed the significant other and sat ourselves. Afterwards it was still another 10 minutes before a waitress was even seen to even ask for a drink or silverware (which is weird because there were a couple of other people eating in that area- all with empty glasses, mind you). The buffet is standard with the normal fixings- eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. However the eggs were all dry and watery at the same time (however that is possible!), and the bacon was tough and chewy. I didn't try the sausage patties personally, but the sausage gravy wasn't great and wasn't terrible either. I would say the best part were the strawberries and yogart with granola... and that's saying a lot, because I am definitely not a healthy-side brunch eater! Anyways... some people may be drawn to the 4$ absolut bloody mary offer (as we were)... but save your 4$. Unless, of course, you're down with straight spicy mix and none of the good stuff like olives, pickle.. or, oh yeah.. alcohol.

  • Jill W.

Love the food here, if you eat at the bar, they actually have beer steins with bacon in them for only the bar customers. The rib special on Friday night is always good. Service can be slow on drink refills when busy but that is the same most anywhere.

  • Robin L.

Burgers were great. When comparing to this location previous inhabitant, Scotty's Lakehouse, the food is better and less expensive. I MUCH preferred the side options here, as opposed to the Lakehouse's bizarre fries.

  • Christine M.

This place was seriously awful. First we ordered the dill chips with horseradish. The chips were fine, but were served with ranch, not horseradish. We asked our server to get us horseradish and were informed that 'both look pretty similar', which I guess meant we were just supposed to keep the ranch. We ordered the flatbread appetizer as well, which is essentially 6 chips covered in way too many jalapeños for $10. It was burned completely black on the bottom. We didn't eat it, which also didn't seem to bother our server. Overall we paid way too much money for some seriously sub par food. We're huge fans of Scotty's and pretty disappointed this took its place. We will absolutely not be coming back.

Overall well below average experience. This was our third try at Detour. We were slow to be greeted and seated. The staff seemed more interested in getting back to their conversations than serving their clients. Food was below average - even for bar food. I had a breaded chicken sandwich, and like the fries, it tasted rancid - maybe the grease was old? Same with the nacho chips. Yuck. I'm disappointed because I really wanted them to succeed -- they're in a location that's perfect for us. I really liked the previous Scotty's Lakehouse when they first opened and before they turned into a noisy day care center for kids. I'm afraid tonight was the final strike for that Detour location - it was our third bad visit. Still looking for a casual neighborhood bar that's worth repeat business.

Friendly service was disappointed in the so called famous cheesesteak.

Quick and dirty: sports bar with a slightly upscale menu. Service was good. Do not recommend. We stopped in for a quick lunch on February 15th (I'm a bit behind on my reviews) and had fish tacos and the fish and chips. Fish tacos: Only fair. They use mahi-mahi and blacken it. The portion of fish was rather small and the volume in the taco was made up largely by a huge mound of slaw. Definitely not for those on a low sodium diet. The blackening rendered the fish extremely salty-tasting, and even the mound of slaw did little to ameliorate the taste. Do not recommend. Fish and chips: Only fair. Solid white fish. Breading was soggy and disappointing. The fish finely was able to be eaten only by removing the half-cooked coating. Served with shoestring fries that were good. Do not recommend.

Horrid and forgettable. Blood pressure rose while palate remained unsatisfied. Service varied from inattentive to surly. Manager had promised to honor Groupon on phone and then refused to honor full amount after we'd driven out of way and had spent a lot of time there. Place has dingy, dour vibe, not unlike a morgue, which is weird for a sports bar. Avoid unless a DUI keeps you relegated close to Fishers/ Geist area and then keep expectations low.

  • Craig B.

The food over all is not bad . Though the service is horrid. After many visits the waiters Stand around in groups and ignore tables . The bar tender is not behind bar half the time your drink empty your waiting on a refill . Plus the service is just not a good vibe . Highly non social true disappointment

I thought this place was okay... It wasn't awful, it wasn't amazing, just... F.I.N.E. Food: decent... they have a large variety of macaroni and cheese options. It seems to be their 'specialty'? I had the Hard Hat - grilled cheese with ham & avocado. It was good. The bread choice was a little boring but the inside was solid. My husband had the fish tacos. They were flavorful and in my opinion, pretty tasty! Service: eh -- alright. Our server was very nice, attentive and all around a good server. She was on the spot with refills, friendly with our baby. The hostesses were a little 'look downy'. You know, when you walk in and they kinda notice you but they aren't super interested and they look confused about where to seat you. One was friendly the other was unfriendly. We asked a question about when it changed from Scotty's to Detour and the unfriendly one answered us in an unfriendly way. Blah. Ambience: It's pretty good. There are sports games on the Tv's, the decor is fine for a Grille/Bar. I didn't notice any noise problems, nothing super loud or eerily quiet. So, you see it's just FINE. If I were going to frequent this restaurant, I'd need the host staff to be a bit more warm and a little less "i just work here on the weekends".

  • Mark D.

Great sports bar and burger place. Location is perfect for Geist/Fishers.

    (4)
  • JJ G.

So after my 5th time going it keeps getting worse. I love the location and all the TV's however, the service is always poor. The kitchen takes 25+ minutes for an appetizer and the servers and bartenders are always hanging out talking to one another. I'm not sure if its a slow kitchen or if every server/bartender I get forgets to put my order in. I'll go back for drinks but not for food. This might explain why they promote their carry out so heavily.

  • Susie H.

I have to say, we got a great deal. I had the Weds. special, which was teriyaki salmon for $10. It was well worth the money. We had a groupon, and from checking in with another social media service, got a free serving of the fried avocado (wouldn't order it again, just weird). My husband had the tenderloin and said the meat was excellent, the breading bland. Groups were gathering for trivia, but we left before they started. Service was a bit spotty.
