Its almost Chipotles....same concept. I had carnitas tacos and can say the pork was not true to tradition. I'd rather they call them "Pork" tacos so to not mislead as true carnitas are fried. I think the meat was microwaved too, maybe not but tasted like it. High applause for the level of freshness and attempts to provide some level of healthy food choices in Elkhart. Will most definitely try again on the next visit for a second shot.

Amazing.. Catered a wedding that I attended, better than Chipotle! Flavors are so intense and salsas have great heat and taste. Only disappointed that they are not in MN.

The potential of Mod-Mex is overwhelming! I am thrilled to recommend the truly excellent food but dismayed by drab and dreary atmosphere. This could be a destination restaurant with a little creative decorating and marketing effort. I suggest that servers should have been more familiar with the menu and a little more enthused to answer questions.

Love love this place! Food is so delicious. Best Mexican restaurant around Michiana. We had guacamole with bacon and was soooo good. Chips very fresh and yummy and main course great. Even my mom loved it and she's not a big fan of Mexican food!

Great Modern Mexican food with good service. My family has been here at least 5 times - we keep going back because it is good! We've tried many things on the menu and have never been disappointed. Their Sangria is pretty awesome too. Skip Hacienda and come here instead. It's much better! PS: I do have a comment on the music though - it's always really sad, depressing, Coldplay/Radiohead type play list. I suggest mixing it up a bit and add a few happy peppy songs... please... I beg you....

Good place to go for healthy Mexican food. I ordered the Pollo al camaron it was good. Although, the chicken was a weird texture. The burritos looked really good. I agree with a previous reviewer, the music is sad...lol

This is, hands down, the best Mexican food I've ever had... anywhere. Very creative menu. To-die-for guac. And the roasted corn on the cob is Mexican crack. Drove 50 miles and can't wait for an excuse to go back.

Wow! Mod Mex is a really good restaurant. We tried it for the first time tonight. They were surprisingly not very busy. As good as this place is, they should be jam-packed. I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants all over this country; this one is my new favorite. I must say, I love their take on Mexican - it's Mexican with a modern twist... hence the name. If you've had Mexican food, you'll like their creations. If you have not, don't be intimidated. This is not like some of the Mexican restaurants you'll find in rougher areas, like out on Western Ave. in South Bend. It is a nice, clean, and friendly place. To the food, we started off with a Guacamole Sampler, with 'fresh as fresh can be' tortilla chips. The sampler comes with your choice of three guacs. We chose crab meat, mango infused, and goat cheese. It was so good and fresh - a true delight for the senses. Now for 3 people, the appetizer was a lot of food. You could easily share this with a larger group of 5 or more people. Then we had some super hot fire shrimp - Camarones a la Diabala. (I ordered it hot, you can also get mild or medium.) It was good and hot! We also, had a chorizo and cheese dish with tortillas. It was actually an appetizer, but my wife ordered it as her meal. Our third dining partner had the pork mole. Wow, it was an excellent mole and full of flavor. Give this place a try for lunch or dinner Elkhart. The food is good and of good value. It is owned by two very enterprising young men who definitely have a creative talent for excellent interpretations of Mexican food. Also, they have super friendly wait staff. This is the new hip and cool place to be. I hope lots of people try this jewel of a place and realize what a neat restaurant this is in Elkahrt. We drove from South Bend and we will definitely be back! P.S. this is not on Toledo out by Memorial High School, rather it is on Teledo, East of Goshen Ave., right across from Sautter's Floral and Greenhouse. Why are you still reading this review? Go out there and try it!

The black bean and guacamole burrito was fantastic! Also, for an appetizer, we had the 3-guacamole sampler with original, pineapple, and crab (I'm not a fan of crab, but the others we dined with said it was good); the pineapple was a different twist on guac that was worth the "risk." Dessert was a hot white cake with pineapple topping. I loved everything I ordered!

Mod Mex is our new favorite Mexican restaurant in Elkhart. The flavors were very intentional and the modern Mexican cuisine is new and refreshing. The ingredients tasted as fresh as they come, and ambiance was nicer than most other Mexican restaurants in Elkhart. Don't judge it from the outside, this place deserves a chance from everyone who enjoys Mexican food! I had the steak burrito with lime & cilantro rice, black beans, and a honey chipotle sauce... So good I went back there for dinner... The same day! Give it a try... The staff is nice and friendly as well and prices are worth the fresh ingredients and for casual nicer dining. Not your average Mexican restaurant!

What can I say, this place is amazing!!! Everything I have had there is out of this world. They have the best guacamole i have ever had. Everything is made to order, so it is all very fresh. They now have beer and wine, and also have the best sangria i have ever had! I just can not say enough about this restaurant. I usually do not write reviews, but felt Mod Mex deserved one!! Like one reviewer said earlier, do not judge the place from the outside. The inside is very nice and they will be working on the outside. Everyone at Mod Mex is so friendly, you need to go and try for yourself!! You will not be disappointed!!

Best guacamole in the county! I love the variety, but mango guac is my favorite with their freshly made chips.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
