I'm always looking for good barbecue when I'm traveling. This week, in Columbus, IN I found the Indiana Smokehouse on Yelp and decided this was a place I needed to try. I came by last night but they were closed! Sign on the door said something like "We like to cook meat but we don't want to cook our customers. AC died." Because of the strength of the previous reviews I decided to come back today... Boy, am I glad I did! Amazing brisket. Amazing pulled pork. My sides... Amazing mac & cheese and amazing coleslaw! If you like bbq, try this place when you're in Columbus. You won't be disappointed.

What an improved atmosphere. The decor is much better than when this place was The Patio. The food is pretty good. Sometimes the meat can be a little soggy (true esp for the brisket), but the pulled pork and chicken are much better dishes. There's plenty of choice for sauce, and most importantly portions are sizable and very affordable. My wife and I split the pulled pork sandwich special and it comes out to $7 something. What a bargain!

Delicious. A great travel stop as we were passing through. Delicious brisket. A little spicy Mac n cheese. Great beans. Super clean everywhere inside too. And friendly folks. Great. We will be back as we travel and recommend.

We tried most of the meats and they were all dry. The sausage and the chicken were both better than the rest. The ribs were dry with a thick, hard crust on them. The corncake was also dry and overbaked. Our baked potato was average and overpriced at $3.50. We wanted to buy smaller portions of the meat to try, but they did not serve smaller portion sizes. The entire dining room filled with smoke once they served the meat from the smoker. They definitely need better ventilation over the smoker. The mac and cheese was the best part of the meal. Not recommended.

I've been a few more times. Today it was cold and rainy outside and just walking into the smokehouse with the aroma was instantly wonderful. I'm going to say the brisket is the star of the show. The brisket is so tender and tasty - among the best brisket I've ever had. The baked beans are more soupy than most, but the flavor is fantastic. I generally avoid smoked chicken or turkey because it just doesn't pick up the smoke flavor like beef and pork. I decided to try their smoked chicken and the serving is half a chicken! Apparently they smoke the chicken and store it cold. Just before serving they put it in the deep fryer. Wow. The chicken was moist and delicious, but the skin was AMAZING. I made the three people with me try the skin and we all agreed we would eat it like potato chips! Thank god they don't sell it by the bag. And this rave from a guy who doesn't normally eat chicken skin at all. I still need to try the sausage and tofu.

Brisket and Mac and cheese are out of this world. A definite recommendation if you're in town

We are in town from Los Angeles visiting family and decided to try the Indiana Smokehouse for lunch. Great choice! Let me say that I have a smoker back in California and do a pretty strong brisket and great ribs, or so I've been told by friends. So my standard for smoked meat is pretty high. I was not disappointed! There were four of us, so we ordered the family meal for four. It was plenty of food, including dessert, at a very reasonable price. The brisket was very well done, and very tender with a nice smoke flavor. I put a little more bark on the outside of mine, but that is a personal preference. The pulled pork was very juicy and tender. We ordered the Mac and cheese (very tasty), the cole slaw and the potato salad, both of which were yummy. We were so full after the meal we decided to take our peach cobbler home for later, so can't comment on it yet. Their homemade BBQ sauces were great, with a nice variety for every taste. We will definitely visit Indiana Smokehouse every time we visit, and our family said they expect it to be a regular stop for them. I highly recommend you check this place out soon, before the lines start forming!

Friendly staff! Cute decor, not practical but cute. Meat dry and over cooked. Tried 2 sauces and didn't like either. House bbq and honey bbq both were too thick tasted like flavored ketchup not like bbq sauce. Cornbread bland and not warm. Potato salad was typical store bought. Will not eat here again. The local competition is much tastier!

Five Star Barbecue! Great for lunch or dinner. I highly recommend the brisket chili and texas style ribs. They have the best homemade sauces - try the house mustard. Friendly staff and perfect location. Indiana smokehouse is my favorite place to eat when I'm back in Columbus visiting family.

Food is delicious and a offers a refreshing new taste to Columbus. Every single time I walk into the place, I'm treated with extreme courtesy. Both of these are things that cannot be found in other local barbecue places.

I've been here a few times and have left happy every time! Meats are smoked to perfection, fresh sides like sugar snap peas and awesome, good craft beer selection, and the service rocks!! I would highly recommend this awesome place as the best BBQ in cbus!

Food was excellent and the lunch special pricing is on-point. I have had both the brisket as well as the pulled pork --- both didn't even need sauce, so so good. Interior is nice and there is a wide selection of sauces/dressings to add to your meal. Bread and cornbread are nothing to write home about ---- maybe they can take a page out of Bubba Blue's BBQ and do the fried corn fritter thing, that would be amazing. Been here twice in one week, definitely plan on returning!

This is now a regular for me and my wife. Let's start with the portion size: generous. Then consider the taste of the food: excellent. Now move to the sides: the brussel sprouts will win over any meat and potato people willing to try them. The baby carrots were delicious. I love the baked beans. Desserts are good enough to serve at a restaurant charging twice as much. Finish with the choices of wine and craft beer and you have a great place for dinner.

This place is great. The food is some of the best I've had in the area. You can tell whoever is cooking learned in Texas. Staff is always friendly and it's decently priced too.

Found this gem online while shopping in town. Close to main roads, and the food was amazing! Good flavor with the pork and beef, and a good selection of sauces. Enough food to share and sample around the table. Comfortable seating. I will be back.

My family and I absolutely love this place! I'd eat here everyday if I could, honestly I should just see if they're hiring. We usually get the pulled pork and the brisket, both are so freaking delicious I could cry thinking about it. The fat on the brisket is HEAVENLY. Stop getting grossed out about eating fat and just do it, it will change you. Our favorite bbq sauces are the blackberry bourbon(?), honey, and house. The dinner rolls are everything you could dream of in a roll - warm, buttery, soft, and they practically melt in your mouth. Even though it's technically counter service the staff does a really nice job of walking around and making sure everyone is enjoying the food. Customer service goes a really long way. I also need to mention that they serve local beer and wine.

Delicious pork, mac & cheese, corn bread and sweet tea! Best bbq I have had. Workers were very friendly too. If you're in the area, it's a must go to!

My husband and I tried this for the first time today at lunch and I have to say that I have never had barbecue that was so good. The smoked brisket and smoked chicken were both so flavorful and juicy. The sides are great, and so is the cornbread. The sauces are also delicious! I especially like the blackberry bourbon sauce with the brisket. SO. GOOD. Needless to say, we will definitely be back. Soon.

  • Chris F.

I enjoyed my brisket sandwich and potato salad. The meat didn't have all that much if any smoke flavor, but it was tender with a good meat flavor. The smoke smell in the air was much stronger than the meat. Still it was a nice lunch.

Best brisket I've ever had at a restaurant. Don't even need BBQ sauce. Good beer on tap. Can't wait to go to sleep so I can dream about that brisket

You certainly don't expect to find smoked salmon on the menu at a BBQ joint in the middle of Indiana, but I trusted the server's recommendation, tried it, and was very happy that I did. Moist, flakey, and with just a light smoke flavor that allowed the taste the fish to come through. It was served with grilled/sautéd brussell sprouts that were nicely charred but not burned...and the portion would have easily fed both my wife and me. The rest of my group had more traditional fare...brisket and pork...and they were all very happy with their choices. And to compliment the great food there was a nice selection of bottled beers or PBR in a tall can. I will definitely go back the next time I am in the Columbus/Edinburgh area.

My wife and I went here tonight after having talked about going for quite a while and we're kicking ourselves for not going sooner. My wife had the pulled pork and i had brisket tacos. Both were awesome. The pulled pork was incredible tender and flavorful, and the sauces that we sampled along with it were all great. We will definitely be going back often.

Excellent brisket! Great beans, potato salad and peach cobbler. Very nice, casual atmosphere, friendly people and very good prices. Skip the mac and cheese. It was like some kind of velveeta experiment gone bad. I'll definitely go back.

My first visit here was shortly after they opened. I was skeptical Because of the fact that I LOVE BBQ, and have never had truly great bbq north of Nashville or east of St. Louis. I hesitate to go to the other BBQ place in town, because it's ok, but not great. Kinda depressing actually when you love bbq. It's like loving high quality burgers, but only having McD's as an option locally. Anyway, My first visit was very good, not excellent but very good. So it took me a while to come back. The next visit, it got better. Still not excellent but i was being super critical. The big thing: they were improving after each visit... Fast forward to today. Not only was it excellent... But maybe some of the best brisket I have ever had. And I've had a lot. The bark... Omg, I'm going to say amazing a lot... But holy h-e-double hockey sticks.... Wow. The now sauces are good, I recommend mixing the house with the spicy. They also ha e a blackberry bourbon BBQ which is so good just by itself ! I overheard the owner talking to someone about pork bellies, how the customer had never had one. I immediately started drooling, and I told the owner ? how much I loved pork belly. He asked me if I had ever had jowl. I hadn't.... So a few minutes later he brought me out some!!!! Holy crap!!!!! So AMAZING!!!!!! Anyway, from a BBQ fan, I hope they continue to improve, never get complacent and stay in business for a long time. Great job!!

Smoked Salmon only on Friday! It's SO delicious! I personally wasn't a fan of the smoked Brussels sprouts as the were a little burnt. However, my hubby shared his baked beans with me & they were yummy. Cornbread is delicious too! The Manager came around to ask how everything was, and every person we could hear respond to him said, "Delicious!"

This place is some good fashioned Indiana BBQ. While the food was excellent the portions for the price are a little smaller than I would normally expect from a BBQ place. The brisket was cooked to perfection and they have plenty of sauces to spice it up to your tasting. I was pleasantly surprised by the broccoli side and their corn bread was great! Definitely worth a try!

It's refreshing to eat at a restaurant where you can tell the employees are treated like family. Everyone on staff seems to really enjoy working for the business and that ends up being a great end product for all of the customers. The lady who works the drive thru frequently seems to genuinely care about the customers passing by and I appreciate that in a world where service is sketchy at most places. The food is delicious and would rival any smokehouse or barbecue joint in the country. Portions are more than fair, flavors are excellent, and the quality of the ingredients in each meal shine. I hope this business keeps up the aggressive marketing to make sure they can get their name out in the community.
