Simply the best place to eat breakfast anywhere in Indy! Great service, imaginative recipes and a trained, experienced chef serving up breakfast in a whole new way. I should know, I'm there about every day, and I'm never bored with the options. (Hey, don't judge, I'm a business owner and don't have time to make breakfast!) And as to someone else's comment about outside food and drink....I've never experienced that issue because I would never bring something from another business into someone else's establishment. Tacky, people, tacky! Those are the kind of ridiculous, entitled expectations that make it so hard to own a business today!

Love coming here. I can always count on breakfast being absolutely delicious. The service is very good. The menu has out of the ordinary selections that you can tell the chef is proud to make. Love coming here in the warmer time & sit outside. I'll always recommend Bubs.

Sunday brunch was my first visit to Bub's Cafe though I have been to their sister burger joint many times. There was about a 30 minute wait around 11 am on Sunday. We started with coffee and chai tea (both very good) and the Bub's Holes doughnuts. The doughnuts were served warm. We tried all 4 but the best were the cinnamon and the glazed. For our main mains we got two items that were specials of the day. We got the scotchman which was their version of a scotch egg breakfast style and the breakfast in Burma which was an indian style egg dish. Both were very good and unique. Total bill was right around $30 for two people. We will be back to try more of their awesome special dishes!

Just went here for the first time today. Loved this place and can't believe it's taken me this long to go here. It's a hidden gem in Carmel. Can be a bit hard to find but worth it. The food was very good and the place has a lot of charm. The parking and seating are limited. We were there early and got right in but by the time we left people were stacked up waiting. The doughnut holes are big. One pancake is the size of the plate. The fried potatoes were awesome. A bit salty but that's how I like them. My wife had biscuits and gravy and she really liked them. I'm a fan of Bub's and can't wait to go back again.

Came back here and had the pancakes. They were light, fluffy and delicious. It was a bit pricey at about $8 for a double stack compared to other places but I like supporting local establishments.

I wish this place was bigger, because my only complaint is that everytime I go I have to stand in line to get in. This place is a fantastic brunch spot. Their french toast is amazing. I love all of their quiches, and its funny to see a guy like me mowing down a quiche. Whether you're int he mood for sweet or savory they always have plenty of options for your pallet. Once you're in the service is great. Food comes out quickly and my coffee mug never stayed empty for long.

Great service. Yummy food. Donut holes are huge! We tried three of the four varieties: Cinnamon Sugar, Powdered Sugar, and Glazed. Mulligatawny happened to be the soup of the day, and we all received a sample. It was great, but a bowl was $4.95 so we decided to pass, since we ordered the donut holes. My friends and I all ordered a different breakfast entree. You really can't go wrong!

Three words: Croissant French Toast. I really don't even need to say more but it was the best breakfast I've ever had. The Bub Holes (homemade donuts) were amazing too. Glazed were the best. The blueberry buckle pancakes were also amazing. We were planning our next visit before we even finished our meals. We will be regulars til we leave Indiana. Staff is super friendly too. Go hungry and ready to eat.

If you've never been to Bubs, you have to go!!! You will not be disappointed. The only feedback I could give them is to get a bigger restaurant to support all the Saturday and Sunday morning demand :)

  • Adam H.

One of the best burgers I've had. No need to bring your own drink in as they have excellent choices. There is usually a substantial wait but the wait is worth it. That is the only downside that can be said. Staff is very friendly and professional. After your meal, if you have room, venture a short distance to the ice cream parlor that is attached to the burger establishment. You will not be disappointed in your experience.

Be prepared to wait on a Saturday morning! The chef specialities were unique...tangerine and white chocolate latte and pot roast to name a few on the list. Service was painfully slow which was a real bummer. Their hot chocolate is super good and loved by kids and adults. A mountain of Whipped cream anyone? The pancakes with chocolate chips were probably the best I have tasted. The batter wasn't overly sweet and the chocolate chips were semi-sweet. Solid choice. The pot roast arrived PIPING hot (I actually burned my mouth on it) but truth be told, it was flavorful and tender. The farmer breakfast is a solid choice as well but the potatoes were run-of-the mill, "from freezer to fryer" frozen potatoes with no special seasoning, peppers, onions, nothing. My cappuccino was pretty good.

My friend suggested that we go to bubs cafe, it had been a few years since he had been and the first time for me and man, what a horrible experience. We will never be returning or recommending bubs cafe to anyone. The server was nice but wasn't very attendant to our needs and would only see her every once in a while. Although she did have refills available her infrequency was a little annoying. My friend ordered a grilled cheese and I ordered two blueberry pancakes with bacon. Which wasn't a very tall order and it took the kitchen almost 30 minutes since the time of order to bring the food to us. When the food was brought out it was at a mildly warm temperature and didn't not feel fresh from the kitchen. The head chef while we were waiting on our food was walking around and talking to other customers the entire time we were waiting on our food. My pancakes where okay, nothing to special but my friends grilled cheese was barely cooked at all. After taking two bites of the sand which he asked to speak to the chef and have another one made for him. After waiting for a new grilled cheese to be prepared, the shed brought out the exact same sandwich that was just "nuked" in the microwave. Which if anyone knows it's a board of health violation to take and reheat the same food for a customer, a new product must be made. After being brought out the exact same grilled cheese that was just thrown in the microwave for 5 minutes. We had enough and just wanted the check to leave. $10 for a under cooked then nuked grilled cheese? No thank you, never again.

We are "regulars" at Bub's cafe. We rate it as 5 stars based upon many, many enjoyable visits. Most of our visits are for breakfast / brunch, but we've also enjoyed several lunch meals. Chef Bill is actively involved with all aspects of the cafe, and the service is excellent. My favorite breakfast is the Quiche of the day and fresh coffee. My wife usually gets the yogurt and fruit with house made granola. You can't go wrong here. Not your average diner.

5-star review for a 5-star breakfast restaurant. I have already recommend Bub's Café to as many friends as I can and it is well worth going to for anyone in Carmel. Bub's Cafe is truly one part breakfast joint and two parts gourmet restaurant. They have their standard breakfast menu with normal fare (pancakes, omelets, bacon...) and then a rotating specials menu with the best breakfast selection ever. The specials menu has 10-15 selections of fine dining meals that taste amazing. I got a chorizo hash while I was there and it tasted as good as it sounds. I HIGHLY recommend going to Bub's Cafe. Just be aware that everyone loves it, so anticipate a 30-60 minute wait for weekend brunch.

Fun breakfast choices (including vegetarian and low carb friendly) with flair, friendly service. Great people watching on the Monon trail if you choose outdoor seating. What's not to love? New to me(Apr 2014)! - Fresh fried donut holes, generously sized. Share an order as a 'breakfast appetizer'!

  • Adam B.

Simply amazing. Everything that Chef Bill makes is amazing. To be completely honest, I've never had the lunch because the breakfast is just too stinking good. I recommend checking out the daily specials. Whenever they have the bread pudding French toast, graham cracker encrusted French toast, chorizo hash, or root veggie hash, those are all amazing. The coffee is solid, as is the service. Definitely best breakfast place in Carmel including Petite Chou.

    Spectacular. Everything was great!

Great food but be prepared to pay & wait. Atmosphere is cute, old house painted with bright colors. I agree with a previous review on the hideous red walkway & covered deck, however I love the option of eating outside. Friendly service, (not the fastest, but on Sunday morning, I'm not in a big hurry.)

Love this place! Arrived at 9 am on a Saturday asking for a table of 11. They quickly made it work and were extremely efficient. Our server, Tyler, was knowledgeable, quick and funny. He joked with the kids and paid close attention to detail. The breakfast dish with the lentils was delicious. My husband enjoyed the biscuits and gravy with elk sausage. The outdoor patio is cute and great people watching. Chef came by to say hello and check on us. Overall, a perfect breakfast destination. I'll be back!

Yum! I have been to Bubs several times. It is a cute little cafe in Carmel. The wait time on a weekend is usually around 20 minutes, so it's not a bad idea to call ahead. They have great pancakes- quite large. One pancake doesn't sound like a lot, but it definitely is. The prices are decent- everything is less than 9 dollars. I recommend the egg sandwich! The donut holes are pretty good too.

  • Bethany S.

I was ready to love this place, but I was disappointed. I went with my dad and step-mom, and they both got egg dishes that they really enjoyed. I got the grilled cheese, which had spinach and red peppers along with the cheese. But when I think of a restaurant's gourmet grilled cheese, I think lots of glorious cheese, oozing out everywhere. On this sandwich, there was plenty of bread, a decent amount of spinach and peppers, and about two thin slices of cheese. I'd say it was a pepper sandwich with cheese and spinach. And it made me sad. Bub's Holes are sinfully delicious. It feels like eating a chocolate-flavored heart attack. I recommend them. Also, the potato salad is good, with plenty of mayo, and the service is great. I may go back one more time and give them another chance with a different dish.

My husband and I were on a road trip and found this place using tvfoodmaps.com and couldn't be happier that we did. We arrived around 10:30am on a Sunday, so the fact that there was a 20-25 minute wait didn't surprise me (they do not take reservations). The restaurant is small (very small) and there really isn't anywhere to wait unless you want to sit at one of the picnic tables outside. It was hot and I didn't feel like sweating outside, so we left our cell number with the host and took the dogs (who were waiting in the car) out to potty and waited in the air-conditioned car until they called to say our table was ready. They served a small complimentary "shot" of the soup of the day when we sat down. It was cream of mushroom and delicious. If I hadn't been so fixated on breakfast, I would have ordered that. I ordered a specialty eggs benedict off the daily/seasonal menu, and my husband had the warm berry pie. Both were beyond our expectations. Fresh and loaded with flavor and finesse. We also ordered six of their donut holes and a granola bar to go to take with on our vacation. These are not your average donut holes. They are ENORMOUS and outrageously, outrageously good. We heated them up in the microwave for a few seconds and split one each morning for the next few mornings with our coffee and they were still good a few days later. The homemade granola bar was also very good. I had the sangria with breakfast. It was fine, not fantastic, but the price was great ($4!). Service was a little slow, but not surprising considering it was a very busy day and time. Anytime we come through this area in the future, we will be stopping here to have breakfast. Their lunch menu looked good too, and based on the sample of the soup I had, I'm sure it is just as yummy.

Tried Bub's cafe for the first time this morning and had a fantastic experience. First, the service was wonderful. Jon made sure we were taken care of and was fantastic with our daughter. We also noticed how well he interacted with other children in the restaurant. In regards to the food, every dish we had was fantastic. "Juan's Cheesy Benedict" with Chorizo was the perfect amount of spice and the biscuit it was sitting on was perfectly cooked. The vegetables on the California scramble were done to perfection, giving the scramble a very fresh taste. Bub's bowl was as awesome as it sounds and who can argue with the donut holes. We're recent transplants from Chicago where fantastic breakfast/brunch restaurants are a dime a dozen. We've struggled to find similar places in Indy, but Bub's definitely reminds us of those great Chicago breakfast joints. We'll definitely be back.

Loved the chef coming out and greeting us. The waiter we had was super friendly and helped us decide between some of the specials. I must say that their California Omelette was amazing. Every time we have come here we have been very pleased with the service and food. This has quickly become our favorite Sunday brunch stop and look forward to it each week.

  • Dawn T.

The donut holes are a five. The other food is also very good. I haven't eaten anything I haven't liked. The service has always been friendly, however, I feel like it can be on the slow side. The 3 star versus 4 star comes from how loud it is. Maybe it is because I've always been seated in the little room in the front, but it is really loud in there, even with only one other table occupied. I also feel that while the food is good, it is over priced. (Except the donut holes, those are fairly priced for what you get.)

  • Steve L.

Wonderful service. Pancakes huge but delicious. Avoid the quiche........heavy....... Donuts awesome and all dishes very fresh. Wait time was 20 mins at 11am but well worth it. Would visit again. Listen to servers recommendations for specials.

the only place I will go for breakfast! Fresh and top quality food! I have tried almost everything Chef Bill has on the menu. You cannot go wrong with any platter! The portion sizes are perfect. I try to go in every sunday or Saturday Morning for a brunch with either a friend or my boyfriend!

Been here a few times and always had great service and good food. Went last night and the burger was a little over cooked (asked for medium and came out well done). No big deal, but worth mentioning if you're a stickler for medium.

Great food. They have weekly special - must try. I have tried pretty much everything on their menu and I love everything. The staff is great. Bubs holes are great, if you like donuts. If you come on Sunday, make sure and try their belinis.

This place is a little hidden away from the Main st. crowd of eateries, which I think makes it even better. To me, a place that you have to look a little harder for is generally a bit better as they attract a more die hard and dedicated fan. But I didn't have to look too hard to find this place, my sister took me here. Oh well, I still stand by my theory. It is a great little restaurant that does just breakfast and lunch. The ingredients are fresh and the portions are generous. I've been here twice and both times had great service and the chef circulated through out the room talking with the diners and inquiring if all was well with their meals. I don't see that very often, especially in a breakfast/lunch cafe so it was a real nice touch. Overall it is a great place to go to have a quiet breakfast or lunch and just sit and have some great conversation. The mood is colorful and upbeat there. Have fun if you go!!!

Bub's holes!! (Donut holes). They are a must. Mix them up if you want. Get one glazed, one cinnamon, one something else. You cannot go wrong. While the egg sandwich cannot hold a candle to Cafe Patachou, there is plenty else on the menu that I enjoy. Pancakes are of the very large variety, but are quite good. There always seems to be a very interesting daily special as well. Bub's is one of those places where there is one must have item (Bub's holes) and everything else you order will be very good. It's hard to go wrong.

I've been to this place for breakfast and lunch. It's really different and cool. One of the new farm-to-table type restaurants with a diverse menu. Everything I've tried so far has been outstanding and I'll be back every time I'm in the area for sure.

I love the inside of this place. It's cozy. 5 stars The server was cute and friendly. 5 stars The outside has a hideous red walkway and attachment. 2 stars. It has a great city around it, Carmel. 5 stars. I got the Snow Crab Scramble. It tasted good but it was probably meant to be an appetizer because of how rich it was. Mayo-dill crab salad on top of egg and English muffins with tomato and onion with a Sriacha cream sauce. It would be good if it was 1/3rd the size, but I was sick at the end because of how rich it was. I can't complain about it though, it was really good. It was just too much food for how rich it was. I'll definitely go back though because it was really good. I'll just order something different or split that meal with someone else.

I'm so happy to have found this breakfast place. The staff is warm and outgoing. The atmosphere is cozy & most importantly all the food is good. My husband and I stick with the build your own omelet. Very tasty. The coffee is also very good & I'm pleased to see they offer mimosas! I would definitely recommend!

I can not say enough about how good the donut holes are. The sourdough bread bowl and quiche were big portions and very good. Server was very friendly and attentive. Great experience for us out of staters :)

Best Bacon I've Ever Had!!!! I recently had breakfast at Bub's. Glorious!!!! I had an omlet, potatoes, and bacon. Awesome! The food was great, the service was stellar, and the wait time quoted by the hostess was spot on. Oh, and the bacon. Did I mention the bacon? The best bacon I've ever had! Can't wait to try to Bub Holes next time!

  • Steve P.

Our family is very fond of Bub's Burgers (1.5 blocks north of the cafe) and my wife and I visited the cafe for the first time this week, for lunch, and it is really good. You can tell that most, if not all of the ingredients are very fresh and high quality. I had the meat lovers quiche while my wife had the California scramble special. Both were really tasty. They have a nice, covered deck on the front, which is where we sat. We asked the chef about how crowded it can get on weekends. He advised arriving before 9:30 to beat the breakfast crowds. Give it a try. Indy/Carmel need more places like this!

Bub's Burgers & Ice Cream on the Monon in Carmel has made quite a name for itself with it's "Big Ugly" burger. But slightly less well known is Bub's Cafe, located just down the trail. Bub's Cafe serves breakfast and lunch Monday through Sunday, and as far as I'm concerned there is no other place to be on a Sunday morning. Some go just for the "Bub Holes" alone, which are over-sized, freshly fried doughnut holes covered in your choice of traditional glaze, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar or chocolate sauce. In the mood for some big eating "Big Ugly" style? Order the "Big Stack" 12 pancakes in buttermilk, banana, blueberry, chocolate chip or strawberry. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I strongly recommend trying one of the daily specials. There is always a quiche of the day, along with other offerings. The most recent special to grace my plate was the Scotsman--a hard-boiled egg wrapped in house made elk and pork sausage, topped with marinara and served atop a biscuit over gravy. Yes, you read that correctly. It sounds strange, but it was amazing. What made it so wonderful was that each and every element was perfectly prepared. The egg was boiled perfectly--something I rarely see in restaurants, the sausage was flavorful and not the least bit greasy, and the biscuit and gravy would have made a great dish on its own. Even the marinara was delicious by itself. Altogether, it was a breakfast masterpiece. After seeing the attention to detail and tasting the combination of flavors, I would eat anything this Chef put in front of me.

Stopped in with my mom and girlfriend on a frigid morning in January. The entire downtown Carmel grid was without power, including Bub's. They cook on almost entirely gas though so we decided to stick it out, I'm glad we did. I ordered an amazing elk sausage sandwich and some green tea. Both were plenty warm which really hit the spot given my cold-from-no-heat-cause-the-electricity-was-out state. The restaurant occupies an old house along the Monon Trail, and though the decorations are a bit cutesy for me the location is great. I've also come once during the summer months with mom (we rode in). The patio was a wonderful option and I recall eating some delicious french toast. Hot or Cold, Sweet or Savory, Bub's Cafe is sure to please.

The food is good, but you have to be willing to eat in cramped quarters. This place is a little house in downtown Carmel. Parking is very challenging, so expect to walk. The service is awesome and we didnt have to wait to be seated at 9am on a Saturday morning. If you dont mind sitting on top of the people sitting around you, ( in our case we had a guy leaned up against our table) and you dont mind a lot of people crammed in a very small space, then you will be ok. I personally dont like everyone around me involved in my conversation with my spouse. You definitely cant bring a group here. Theres just no room. The chairs are all cheap wooden chairs that are very uncomfortable so you will find its hard to relax and have breakfast. You eat and get out. So thats not really a plus for me. And the prices are very high. There isnt and way to get out of there for under $36-$46 for 2 people. I also tried just taking my 2 kids and myself and it was $50 for breakfast. Ridiculous. We live in Carmel and have decided we wont go back. For us, its not worth the no parking and high prices or eating with your elbow on someone elses table.

I love Bub's burgers so I imagined Bub's cafe would be just as good...I was wrong. Service was painfully slow and the food was subpar at best. I had to ask if the eggs they used in omelets we real or egg beaters..they told me they were real eggs but honestly I am not buying that they looked and tasted like egg beaters. Definitely won't be making another trip to Bub's Cafe

Excellent food at a reasonable price and a wonderfully cozy, local feeling. Homemade donut holes to order were amazing!

Best burger anywhere! I previously craved In-and-Out burgers in California and felt the had the best available. Bub's is far better. It is a fun place to go with family or friends, but the acoustics are bad making it very loud inside. Side dishes are great. I love the sloppy waffle fries and onion rings. One time I was able to resist the burger and go for the Mahi-Mahi sandwich. It was delicious as an alternative to the burgers, but I have not been able to try anything other than the burgers in subsequent visits. I've probably eaten at Bub's 15 times and never had a bad experience. Kid's are welcome and even given an activity bag to keep them busy when the food is being prepared.

So much so little! Well I'm a huge fan of Bub's Burger's and when I hears that Bub's and opened a cafe there was SO MUCH hope. The 1st time I made it to Bub's Cafe and I found SO LITTLE to make me happy. Don't get me wrong the food wasn't bad it was just not what I had HOPED for. The cafe looks great from the outside, an old house turned into a cafe. The same that was done at Bub's 1st place, it dose work for both. The items seemed to be to Carmelized for my liking! It was what was expected not what I expected from a cafe. But once again the food is good but it could be more, ya know what I mean? Try it for your self, it may be what you are looking for I hope! Remember to eat well and live well! And please no chain's!

Met some friends here today for breakfast. We had pancakes, French toast, roasted root veggies topped with a couple of eggs and brought home some of the awesome granola and homemade donuts for the rest of the family. Friendly atmosphere, excellent service and convenient location.

If I only had one breakfast meal available before I died I would have it here. The stuffed French toast was a slap of flavor to my taste buds that had a wonderful aftertaste. The coffee is Starbucks quality (which, in my opinion is mediocre) however it is a slight side-note in the face of incredible breakfast faire that simply is not matched anywhere I have ever been. The outside patio is large, shaded, and looks out onto the Monon trail that feeds into downtown Carmel. The owner Matt actually refilled our coffee himself (he only admitted he was the owner after I questioned him). Great staff, amazing food, I wish I lived next door.

I had high hopes for Bub's but was very disappointed. I run by it most weekends on the Monon Trail and it always smells delicious. I was told by my dining mates I shouldn't be surprised by the prices because it's in Carmel, but I was. It's way overpriced, and everything is ala' cart. I think a an omelet can at least come with some toast or something included. That being said, the elk sausage is delicious, as are their pancakes. The omelet seemed a bit buttery or greasy (I could see the oil dripping from whatever the lubricant was) which made it tasty, but a lot less healthy. The pancakes were thick and textured and delicious, though overpriced. I'm sure it had some whole wheat in it. But when I spend $15 on an omelet, coffee, and a single pancake, I feel gypped. I'd go to the Original Pancake House every time over this place.

  • Zach O.

All I can say is people are crazy. Yes the prices are high, but the food is awesome. Go to IHOP if you want cheap food. The Cafe is pricey but you get what you pay for. You can get a huge omelet and thick bacon for your moneys worth. I am more than full when I walk away and I am more than fine paying for it. But lets get serious, BUB HOLES. Bub Holes are the shit. If you've never been here then go for these. You wont find them at Pancake House or Dennys, who eats there anyways?? The Cafe closes at 2 so get there early and brace yourself for an awesome breakfast. (and ask for Sherry, she's the coolest waitress in there)

Great place for breakfast !! I had a walking omlet which is an omlet rolled in a wrap.I choose egg whites, elk sausage ,spinach and white cheese. This was wonderful. The wrap was nice and warm and the eggs perfecly cooked.Coffee is very good and the sevice fast and friendly. Only drawback is there can be a wait sometimes.

  • Cory S.

Worth the wait on a weekend morning. This is a good place to get some good breakfast. I ended up getting one of the sourdough breakfast bowls with bacon, hash browns and gravy. It was very good, but there is NO way you'd want to eat the entire bread bowl. I ate a few bites of it with the insides, but you'd have to carry me out if I ate the entire thing. My wife split an omelet and french toast with the other couple we went with and had nothing but good things to say. The portions are enough to fill you up and keep you going for the day. The chocolate milk we ordered was slightly warm, must be stored outside the fridge for easy access. We 'splurged' and got some of the dough nuts we'd heard good things of, but couldn't have been more let down. The dough nuts were absolutely horrible, while they were big in size they had more grease in them than any one person needs in an entire week. We ate half of one and tossed the rest, definitely not worth their weight! Other than that it was good and a we will go back occasionally.

We had a great breakfast at Bub's Cafe today. I highly recommend the Holes and Belgian waffles. Very good mimosas and the spiciest (hot!) Bloody Mary I have ever had.

I'm absolutely amazed that this place had a line out the door! Felt like I needed to write a review to keep you from wasting your hard earned money. Prices are outrageous as the previously reviews have mentioned - $6.25 for an omelette. Want toast? $1.50. Want fried potatoes with that? $1.75. The food is not even good so I just don't get the line out the door. Maybe this is the only decent breakfast spot on Carmel? I'd recommend putting the extra $ toward gas and drive south for a breakfast in Indianapolis. I ordered the breakfast sandwich. Menu said the eggs were fried over well. Told the waitress I'd like them fried hard which I thought was the same thing anyways. She repeated the fried hard part back and then brough out over easy eggs. Urgh. Extra star is for its location on the Monon. So at least you can walk off the grease.

Tough to evaluate a place on a half sandwich and salad, but the salad was lovely and the sandwiches very good. Stumbled across the place while riding up the Monon, and it was the perfect spot to stop for a bite. Lovely sitting on the patio, friendly mostly efficient service, and the kitchen staff regularly visited the tables to check on everyone's meals.

People are always terrific. Nice breakfast with eggs perfectly done sunny side up and nice thick bacon. The coffee is good but not necessarily a stand out. Nice place for a business breakfast

How we've lived in Hamilton County for almost 5 years and never eaten here, I can't fathom why! After driving around Main Street in Carmel, we finally found it tucked away, directly off the Monon. Parking is a bit of a pain, as it seems to be an extremely popular place. We came about 930 on a Saturday morning, the small patio was completely full and there was a line, so I didn't have much hope, but we were seated within 10 minutes, yay! I was excited to see some different breakfast items, such as lemon toast and multi grain pancakes with honey. I settled on the challa french toast bake while hubby had the breakfast bread bowl with ham. Initially I was disappointed by the portion size of french toast, for almost $9 it was maybe 3"x3". However, it was extremely filling, sweet and delicious. Hubby's bowl was packed full of potatoes, gravy, ham and eggs, also very tasty. Service was very nice and everything came out fairly quickly considering how packed the place was. We enjoyed it so much we came back Sunday morning before church. We both had the breakfast bowls and left considerably stuffed! This may just be our new weekend ritual.

I came here for brunch on a Monday and there was a crowd on the patio. Since I was visiting family, I wasn't sure what to expect. We were seated quickly and I placed an order for a cafe Mary. The server did warn me that it wasn't a typical Bloody Mary since they don't carry a liquor license. Instead, it was made with beer. Considering it is a staple on their menu, I figured it must still be good, right? Unfortunately, it was not at all to my taste and I couldn't even drink it. They were very nice about switching it put for me with another drink. The Bellini I tried the second time around was more palatable, but super sweet. It took a while for someone to come around to take our food order, and in between the food arriving I asked to move inside due to the large number of Mosquitos. i ordered the elk sausage gravy and biscuits. They were very good and just a little bit spicy. As someone from out of town, I wouldn't go out of my way to return here, but the servers were really nice and it wasn't a bad meal.

Pros: It's within walking distance of the monon trail, also the rest of downtown Carmel. All of the food tastes delicious. The donut holes are to die for. I've been satisfied with every meal I've gotten there. Cons: They were once out of quiche when I went. Also, since it is a very good restaurant and locally well-known, it is usually very busy. If you go for weekend brunch, there will be a line.

A stones throw off the Monon Trail within the proximity of Main St., Bub's Cafe is the perfect spot to tie up the bikes and pull up to a table of homemade goodness. Breakfast stems from eggs Benedict, quiche, giant pancakes with churned butter, smoky thick bacon, and unbelievable biscuits and gravy (both sausage or elk). And their famous donuts in three ooey gooey flavors. Or choose from their lunch menu including special soups and sandwiches made from freshly baked bread from the local bakery. Thirsty after the long bike ride? Sit back on their patio sipping on a mimosa or cold ale. And, don't forget to join their loyalty program. My one beef is the price of one pancake: $6.50. Seriously? I didn't see a kids size pancake on the menu to suit the little guys appetite. Consider splitting an order if you're feeding young ones. The hot cake is huge. Looking forward to stopping in again for a coffee to catch the sunrise. One of my favorites.

Had a nice, relaxing breakfast this weekend at Bub's. I recommend Bub's if you want traditional breakfast options with a small twist. I got their sourdough toad in a holes topped with onions. Absolutely delicious!

Love love love this place! Fun atmosphere and decor. Smaller location and popular so plan on the possibility of waiting for a table. Great outdoor patio in the summer! Breakfast, brunch or lunch all the best! Cafe grilled cheese + soup or salad is my favorite!

Stopped in on a Sunday morning following a bike ride on the Monon, arrived around 10:30. Wait time was about 10 minutes, no complaints there. Did seem to be a much bigger crowd waiting by the time we left. Place is nice, an old house, a little cramped but not bad. It reminded me of the Runcible Spoon in Bloomington, though my wife said more Village Deli (also Bloomington). We started with the scratch made doughnuts; one each of chocolate, cinnamon, and glazed. They were fantastic, glazed being both of our favorites. Definitely fresh, still boiling hot, delicious. For entrees, I ordered eggs benedict, which was on special and it was as good as any classic style eggs benedict I've had. It was plenty of food too. My wife had biscuits and gravy, which were okay. I thought the gravy lacked flavor; she commented there definitely wasn't enough sausage in the gravy. The biscuits were very good. She was satisfied but would try something else over that entree next time. There were a lot of great sounding items on the menu, so looking forward to a return visit. Prices were reasonable, our meal was about $30 with tip. Sides are a la carte unless you get a sandwich, would would add to the price. On the whole, a great place, will definitely return.

We just had the breakfast in Burma and egg sandwich. Both were delish. The Burma dish had a great southeast Asia flavor and was balanced well with the lentil beans. My wife's egg sandwich was served with thick bacon on a terrific grain toast. The service was prompt and very friendly. I would highly recommend this place!

I moved here about a year ago and Bubs Cafe was on my list of places to try out. I just say I was not disappointed. It's small and quaint but has some really good breakfast items! I ended up getting the bubs breakfast bowl. While my waistline hates me now, I don't regret it ha. It's everything you want at breakfast stuffed into a delicious bread bowl. I am coming back here on a more regular basis for sure. We also ended up getting a pomegranate champagne and it was perfect for a summer time breakfast . Next up on my list is the eggs Benedict for sure! Can't wait to go back!

I'm a huge fan of the Bub's burger establishment, but how are they at brunch!? I'd say pretty solid! I started with a coffee, which was tepid, but still delicious. This was followed up with the June pancake of the month- the Pina Colada. This pancake was awesome. Tons of whipped cream and rum butter-- filled with chunks of pineapple and coconut. Quite tasty, and I'm not even a coconut-lover. I also had the California scrambler- scrambled eggs, red onions, scallions, and white cheddar on top of two toasted English muffin halves. They added a bit of avocado on top. This would be an excellent/"healthy" option, if I hadn't already indulged in the pancake :) The only thing that would have completed this entree was some pico de gallo. The sriracha cream that comes with it does not agree with my lactose intolerance.

The bar for brunch has been raised. My boyfriend and I are brunch connoisseurs. Like, we. love. brunch. When I moved to Indy, the most difficult part was giving up our favorite brunch spot, and we've been on a quest to find a replacement ever since. In walks Bub's Cafe. I was immediately drawn to the bright colors everywhere. Maybe it's because it's 20 degrees outside, or because we woke up to 7 inches of snow, but something about the brightly colored walls and chairs and plates made me forget, if only for a moment, that it was winter in Indiana. Next rave: the size of the coffee cups. This is a real thing, people. I don't want a refill every 5 minutes because your coffee cups are toddler-sized. Bub's has adult-sized coffee cups that are always full, which goes hand-in-hand with the outstanding service. Attentive, but not annoying. Kind, but not all-up-in-your-face. This place is the face of Hoosier (ergh, Boilermaker) Hospitality. Now, the real discussion. Food. AMAZING. Honestly, I'd say it gives another brunch place whose name rhymes with "Smatachou" a run for their money. I had Eggs Benedict, as per usual, and it was great. What I was really impressed by, though, was the bread bowl that my boyfriend got - stuffed with scrambled eggs, sausage, gravy, and potatoes. Basically, everything that is bad for you and so, so good. So yeah, is it Saturday yet? Because I'm counting down the days until I get to go back here and bask in the glory that is a fantastic, fairly-priced, friendly brunch.

We happened upon bubs cafe after going to a concert at the warehouse (right across the street) the night before. Everything from the atmosphere to the service and general upbeat-ness of the place was great! We have an 18 month old- so the time frame of calmness and sitting still is very short- we asked if they could bring her scrambled egg and toast out whenever it was ready- I am not exaggerating here- it was literally less than 5 minutes! It came out before the mimosas! We were totally impressed right off the bat. A full baby is a happy baby Lastly, Get. The. Donuts. And the coffee. Be still my heart they were amazing. Go here, you won't be sad about it!

I finally made it to the Cafe after patronizing the Burger joint for years. If you were expecting the same experience as at Bub's Burgers than you are in for a surprise. Bub's Cafe is much more "foodie" than the burger joint. Expect to see some higher end ingredients here (and pay accordingly). The specialty here are the donuts. They take some time to fry up so order them as soon as you are seated. But they are worth the wait. Hot and sticky and delicious.

We arrived via the Monon trail at about 9am on a Sunday morning and had a 15 minute wait for our table. They had great options for kids. The omelette was gray, the quiche was so so since it was pre-made. The donuts were off the charts. They take 15 minutes to arrive fresh from the fryer. They're basically dough balls dropped in the dryer and then covered in one of a variety of icings. You must try!!

Great service and delicious food!!! This place was packed on a snowy cold Sunday so I was really encouraged while waiting for our table that the food will be good. We started with Donut holes and coffee. We got one of each kind - glazed, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar and chocolate. A word of caution these aren't the size of your regular DD munchkins these are some seriously big donut balls. The outside is crispy and the inside is cakey like an old fashioned donut. I loved it! Our server had brought us samples of the minestrone soup and I asked her if it was vegetarian. She let us know the broth was chicken stock and also helped us with the menu. My husband got the breakfast in Burma (minus the lentils as they have meat). He subbed a side of potatoes instead. My dad got a southwest eggs without beans (also had meat in it) and I got the Portobello "steak". The breakfast in Burma was really yummy it was like eggs Southdown style. The tomato sauce was spiced like an Indian gravy. I loved it! The southwestern eggs came with jalapeño poppers. These are not for the faint hearted - some seriously spicy jalapeños. My dad has a low spice tolerance so I generously helped him out and took them off his plate :-D. The portobello steak came with perfectly poached eggs no bread of any sort but I really didn't miss it. The roasted pepper sauce that it comes with was divine. I felt the portions were perfect you can actually finish your meal and not be too stuffed. You might not be hungry for lunch after a meal here.

For a place with high prices as bub's cafe you would expect both good food and great service. The food has always been good at Bub's. Overpriced for what you get (most sides are ala cart so expect higher dollar spent). The issue is that the food is fairly skimpy and the service more often than not leaves you wanting. They recently treated us like they were mcdonalds employees with rules and no idea of service, experience, and making reasonable accommodations for our group of six on an empty Monday morning. This wasn't the last time we we're let down with poor non-attentive (keep my coffee refilled) service .... Though this time was more of just being gracious and accommodating rather than bub's previous failures But guys - it's the last service failure. This person will be going for a better balance of price-service-quality

Saturday morning walking to Bub's is one of my favorite parts of the Monon. There tends to be a wait after 9 so plan accordingly. It isn't usually a long wait. The doughnuts are heavy so an excellent option is to split them to reduce the guilt. Hot and delicious so worth a splurge. I can't decide which is my favorite so order one of each. The best part of the Bub's menu is the rotating specials. These are always a unique combination and they will tailor for you. They had a delicious crab asparagus dish but we asked to hold the peppers. Not a problem and it was amazing! Sit outdoors if you have the option. The covered patio stays cozy even on colder days and it is a lovely way to spend a morning in the sunshine. Granola samples at the beginning are a nice touch.

I would give zero stars. The service was horrible and we left after a dead dinning room did not even have the decency to greet us or say "we will be right with you " when looking directly at us . This place is a joke

I had high expectations for this place that is so highly coveted. My family and I came on a Saturday morning around 9:30. The wait was around 15 minutes so not too bad. Once seated, our order and drinks were taken and delivered very quickly and courteously. The meal arrived shortly after so kuddos for fast service. Now on to the meal. My wife and I each had the Eggs Benedict. The portion was as expected with some fruit as garnish. The eggs were perfectly poached. The Canadian bacon was, in my opinion, too thickly sliced. It dominated the dish. The hollandaise was borderline broken and the English muffin was greasey. Overall, we were both very disappointed. Our daughter had a single pancake. It too was a very decent portion as it covered the entire 10" plate. Alas even this was a let down. A nice crust was present but the texture was flat and again overly greasy. There was also a flavor of a well seasoned flat iron. Normally this would be fine but when it becomes overly powerful, maybe its time for a scrubbing. If I wanted a burger aftertaste, I would have gone to their other location. Lastly on to the donuts or Bubs Holes. When the waitress asked if we were interested in some, we had a bit of a pause until we realized what she actually said. "Butt holes?", my wife inquired after our waitress left. We had a small laugh about that and the unfortunate name these fried dough balls were given. Not to sound like a broken record but again these were overly greasy, overly sweet, and extremely dense. The only good thing about them was the fact they were fried to order. The truth is, we ate two between us three and tossed the rest. All in all we consider this breakfast a waste of $48 after our meals, two coffees, and tip. There are several better breakfast spots in the area that we will just stick to from now on. The hype for this place is a shame. As my wife stated, they should stick to what they are good at, and that is delicious burgers.

Cute restaurant. I've been 3 times in the last year. It could be so much better than it is. It's not exactly bad, but not good either. Service is friendly, but very slow. It's not a place to take your toddler or your impatient husband:-) Good place for girlfriends or a leisurely meal. The menu sounds good and food is decent, but menu items sound much better than they taste. On the last visit, there was an awful smell of trash- dumpster?- as we walked in, which really gave me pause. Probably won't be back, as Eggshell Bistro is nearby and a much tastier choice.

I used to like this place (note the phrase "used to" since I won't be back). I visit Indy every so often to visit family and friends and Bub's used to be my go-to brunch place. The wait is sometimes long, but the food good and satisfying. Today I was going to go to Bub's with my parents, kids, and husband. I had stopped by a local tea store before I went since I really love tea and wanted to try out the new store while in town. I brought in my tea to Bub's and my family was already seated inside. I proceeded to go in to meet them and the manager stopped me and told me that I can't bring in any outside coffee since they serve coffee. First, it was not coffee - but I never even got around to telling him that. I was just so disappointed since I had literally just bought this tea, and I didn't really feel that I should be turned away for this. If it was a policy, they should have had a sign stating so, and it was a slow Monday morning - not a busy weekend where there were lots of people waiting for the tables. So my family and I left, and I would have spent probably $60 plus there for breakfast. And after that, even if I had left my cup of tea by the hostess stand while I ate, I would NOT have purchased a cup of coffee there since they just upset me. I understand if restaurants have policies, but I honestly didn't know their "no outside drink" rule and they could have just said, "Well, this time it will be okay, just pour it in one of our cups for today, but we normally don't allow it." I was still going to buy breakfast for six people, and wasn't trying to cheat them. So they lost my business and I won't be back. I'm so disappointed because I do think it is such a cute little restaurant with good (and a little expensive food). They could have been a lot more reasonable with me.

I will echo the reviewer who was sadly disappointed to bring his child to Bub's Cafe. On the up side, they made us donut holes of three different flavors, which was nice of them. On the down side, the donuts were so greasy and overly sweet that my son and I each had a single bite, and tossed the rest. Sugar and grease were not what we were looking for to help fuel our Monon bike ride. Obviously, I chose the wrong menu items, but I couldn't find more reasonable choices for little kids - want one giant pancake? This is the place for you! Want a little pancake, a little egg, a little milk and a little fruit for your little one? Sorry, that's not one of your options. Great staff, great location, long wait, not very kid friendly. Maybe that's the point?

Oh my!!! Nice little house in a nice little neighborhood. The people were very friendly and attentive! The turkey melt was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It was...perfect! The taste of the turkey, melted cheese, tomato, and sourdough bread was a perfect blend! The loaded tater salad was perfect also. This was my first time here and I highly recommend it. I'll be back next time I'm in Indy!!!

This past Saturday morning was an absolutely gorgeous one. My fiance and I were sitting around a few hours before I had to go to work and decided to try something new for breakfast. We looked around on Yelp and stumbled upon Bub's Cafe! I guess I should specify, she had been there before but I hadn't! This place really has an unfortunate location, I would've never known it was there if it wasn't for yelp! But apparently a lot of people have found it before me. We pulled up way after the morning rush, maybe 1pm. My fiance told me the last time she was here there was a 30 minute wait for breakfast! It's a cool little place, looks like they took an old house and made it into a restaurant. The colors inside are very warm and inviting, perfect for a beautiul spring day. We chose to sit inside but their covered patio looked nice as well and I think next time I'll try it out. Almost everyone around the Carmel area is familiar with Bub's Burgers, this place has the same owners. We were seated promptly and ordered our coffee while our server told us about their menu. They have a regular breakfast menu filled with all the classics you might cook at home, then they have a chef's special menu that constantly rotates. I deciced to go with something off of the chef's menu, it was a chorizo and egg casserole served on a bed of lettuce with a mango salsa. I also ordered some of their famous Bub's Holes. Homeade, made to order donut holes! They have a few options on these including chocolate, glazed, and more. I went with the glazed. They take a little bit of time for them to make but it is worth the wait, yum! My chorizo breakfast casserole was really good too, I loved the mango salsa with it. They had thrown in some beans and cilantro to compliment the salsa, great pair. I really enjoyed my visit to Bub's, and I'll definitely be going back! Based on my first and only visit so far, you won't be disappointed! I'm going to give them 5 stars because I enjoyed every aspect of my visit, and it's really nice to see a breakfast place with a seperate menu full or creative specials. Sometimes you're in the mood for more than biscuits and gravy and a waffle. Great job guys!

Meh, really 4 stars? I wasn't impressed. After an 8 mile run on the Monon trail, my boyfriend and I decided to hit this place for brunch, after all Yelp had good reviews. I had the pumpkin latte which was delish. We sat right by the heater which was nice. We ordered the pancakes and quiche of the day, and 3 donuts. The food was rather dry and tasteless. The donuts were a 2.5, warm, but dry. Service was great. But overall, I wouldn't return.

Not the greatest experience:( Defn a disappointment. The donut holes were honestly way over cooked. Coffee not great, cups were dirty. Wont be back, which is very unfortunate. Service wasn't great either. Food was ok.. Since i was very much looking forward to this, Either there good chef was off duty or its just taken a nose dive. Bummer. Don't waste your money or time there are many really good breakfast and brunch restaurants. Have no idea how its gotten 4 stars plus the positive reviews, which is why i chose this place. Note to self: Never Again.

Went to Bub's Cafe today. I've been there before, but this time was different. The food was decent, and the wait staff were a little slow. The difference today was that their internet/phone provider went down. We sat for ~20 min while the staff called their ISP, as we were paying by credit card. Apparently there was an outage in the area, and they had no idea when service would be back. So rather than writing off our meals as a loss, we were asked to write our card numbers down on paper and accept the risk associated with that. Needless to say, none of us will be back to either the cafe or the main Bub's location. I understand that running a small business is hard, especially if you can't accept payments, but forcing your customers to risk identity theft over lunch is not an acceptable business practice. A better practice would be to have a Square or PayPal reader on hand for backup purposes.

Always delicious! My favorite is the mahi mahi sandwich and the onion rings. The kids love the shakes and burgers. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The sercice is great and the location is one of the best in Carmel.

This is a tiny lil gem in Carmel that you might miss in a blink of an eye. It's a lil hidden right next to the Monon within a few feet from their flagship Burger place. The cafe looks like a lil house. The interior designer did a wonderful job of making you feel good eating home cooked like breakfasts and lunch. The pancakes are a must try as well as their egg sandwich. The place is packed on weekends for the brunch crowd so make sure you're there early.

One of our absolute favs. Chef Bill is wonderful as is the wait staff, especially Tyler. Always look forward to the pancake of the month as well as the weekly specials menu. If you're in town, it's a must! Be prepared, it can be a wait but well worth it.
