Food and service is appreciated here. The décor is a little stale and service is sometimes bland, but no complaints. Parking was a little tight, but nothing that couldn't be figured out. Red Chopsticks is a cool name. Might be neat if they had a signature dish. I would definitely come back to try that.

I'm seriously impressed with red chopsticks. I am in town from Chicago for family weekend at IU and ate here last night. Red chopsticks was easily and quickly able to accommodate our party of 8 and the food was absolutely delicious. Some of the best sushi I've ever had. Make sure to try the pink lady rolls! The only reason I'm not giving this five stars is because they ran out of some menu items and did not have a high chair available. This is a great and reasonably priced pick for Asian food and especially for sushi!

Same cheap crappy rolls you see in the rest of Bloomington selling at the price of a respectable sushi bar. Red chopsticks isn't as terrible because they do serve some decent pho and other foods. Salmon: 0/5 Tuna: 0/5 Rice: 1/5 Unagi: 1/5 Rolls: 0/5 Miso soup: 1/5 Chicken: 1/5 Pho: 2/5 Presentation: 0/5 Service: 2/5 Diversity: 4/5 Price: $$/$$$$ Satisfaction:Price- 2/5

Food here was acceptable, but the fried rice became more expensive compared with 3 years ago. The service was really bad, they forced me to give tips or you cannot leave. Will never return to this restaurant unless my friends invite me to.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Bloomington and I have been here 10+ times--mainly for lunch. I like Red Chopsticks because they are relatively vegan and vegetarian friendly even though their menu could be better marked. On the sushi menu, the veggie rolls are listed separately and include the following: cucumber roll, asparagus roll, asparagus tempura roll, spicy asparagus roll, vegetable roll, avocado roll, oshinko roll, spicy avocado roll, avocado cucumber roll, inari roll, sweet potato tempura roll, inari avocado roll, spinach oshinko roll, and shiitake mushroom roll. The pricing is between $2.95 - $4.25 and my favorites are the spicy avocado roll and the sweet potato tempura roll made spicy. Another thing that is very cool about Red Chopsticks is that they give you free green tea with your meal. Check 'em out!

I was surprised by the ratings on here, I have never had a problem. I like that they let me customize rolls. They are very quick on to go orders and have always been super friendly to me. I like that you can put in an order online. They do rolls not on the menu too if it is a common type. I eat here pretty regularly and love it. BTW I noticed someone posted that they have free green tea here, that must be an older thing. It is $1 but with free refills. Not sure if thats what she meant but just clarifying.

Average food and service, so comparatively quite pricey. Nothing impressive. Won't go there for a while.

They have very fresh sushi and sashimi. They also have salad with delicious dressing and low price. The pho is also great.

To start with the good, it was the sushi. Tonight's special included one roll with the General Tso chicken. Delicious. However I would not recommend that chicken dish. It lacked flavor and punch. There was only bottled Siracha sauce which I do not care for. Not very authentic. DH had the chicken with garlic which he declared quite good. Both plates included broccoli which was fresh, crisp and quite good.

There seems to be a ubiquitous fusion trend here in B-Town - not sure if they're catering to bringing it all together for an unfamiliar crowd, but since college students are usually pretty familiar with different ethnic foods, I'm surprised there aren't more specialty places with famous "go to dish" everyone orders. That said, Red Chopsticks is the definition of your usual Asian fusion restaurant. You have a hybrid of Vietnamese, Korean, and Thai dishes, but a sushi menu is the first thing thrown right in front of you, so their specialty is obviously sushi. The atmosphere is pretty nice in the booths, but nothing spectacular. I have ESPN running off a flatscreen, which I thought was kind of weird. The sushi itself was average and slightly overpriced. We got the Jade that everyone recommended and it wasn't anything special. Service was pretty darn good though, even if the sushi took a while to come out.

This is now my new favorite Sushi/Japanese place in town. Everything was fresh, it was very good. We ordered to pick up so I can't say much on the staff.

I liked this place ok, especially the Japanese style food. However, the Chinese style food seemed kind of corn starchy and lacked a but of flavor. It seems clean, and I would totally get sushi there again. I just would not each the other fusion items.

This place is great because they have all sorts of Asian cuisine on the menu, not just sushi. One of the few places in town to get pho. Some hot dishes are better than others, but the sushi is creative & tasty. Very clean and slick looking inside. The employees are always nice and helpful.

I have eaten here many times with good service, even when the restaurant was packed. I have always loved the food and I am always excited to eat here when I'm back in Bloomington. I've never had an issue with service until yesterday. I've waited for 15 minutes for a table and still been served more quickly than I was yesterday. To their credit, they had two large tables to wait on, but there were still a few empty tables. I was with a group of four and when we were seated, we were never given menus and had to get up and get them ourselves. About 15 minutes later, when we finally got our drinks and ordered our meals, we expected to receive soup and salad soon after. We waited almost an hour and had to ask at least three different waiters. We watched other tables who came in after we did get theirs before us, specifically a large table of about 10. Nobody ever checked in on us, so after asking a few times one of our entrees arrived...before we ever got the soup and salad. About 15 minutes later when the soup and salad came, we only received one serving, even though we ordered enough entrees to each have an order. Waited another 10 minutes for the other three. When the rest of our sushi arrived, we still had to wait for another 20-25 minutes for our pad thai. We had arrived at 7pm and after finally finished our food around 8:30, we were waiting for our checks...which never came. We seriously considered just getting up and leaving, but after asking multiple people they finally arrived around 8:45 at which point we asked to speak to the manager. When she came over she was very defensive and not apologetic at all. She went on and on about how busy they were, how the waitresses were slow, how they weren't expecting to be so busy on a Sunday night, etc. and promised that there would be better service the next time... She eventually gave us a 10% discount (we expected a free meal), but sent our waitress back to apologize to us and bring us our checks. We never saw the manager again, which was appalling. We waited until after 9pm to get our cards back and finally we were free! Even though it was by far the worst service I have ever had anywhere, we did tip because it was clear that it was a management problem.

Red Chopsticks is brand new and ostensibly asian fusion, but despite its diverse menu including Vietnamese, Korean, and Thai staples, the focus is clearly on Sushi and Japanese food. The decor, china, and ambience are surprisingly refined and upscale despite the modest exterior. Oddly amongst all the posh booths and mood lighting, there's a flatscreen TV with ESPN on the wall. Service in my experience was only one, nice, effective woman, who would have had trouble handling everyone if there had been more than 3 tables full. The salmon skin roll was surprisingly delicious and well-made. It was arranged with care with lovely green sprouts peaking from the ends without a hint of faux pretension. The skin was roasted with a delicious crunch and slight amount of fat to complement the fresh vegetables. I put some soy and wasabi on one piece and immediately regretted it. ; the roll was delicate and well-balanced with no need for any condiments. The bun thit is a perplexing affair. The vermicelli noodles were wet in a way that I'm not used to with bun and the pork was overly marinated. The only vegetable in the bowl was lettuce and it would've benefited from fresh jalapeno, cucumber, fried shallots, and the other little things that make bun great. I admit I enjoyed it, but it certainly didn't live up to its potential even at an economical price (7 dollars). If Red Chopsticks can keep serving things like the salmon skin roll despite their slow business they could easily be the best sushi joint in Bloomington, but their lackluster random menu items from non-Japanese cuisines, slow business and a location forcing them to cater to the less discriminating college crowd may force them to sacrifice quality in the near future. I would encourage a visit of your own to foster this budding restaurant, but stick to the sushi, and hopefully they'll do the same.

Amazing Sushi! I love their delicious special rolls. My favorite ones would be passion, jade, green dragon, and rock. It's really worth to try these special rolls at happy hrs during weekdays from 4 to 6. 30% off rocks!

This place has some amazing sushi! I've tried quite a few of their rolls and each of them has been excellent in flavor, texture, and presentation. My favorites are the Chilli Tai(?), Sweet Potato, and Calamari Roll. Everything is very fresh and you can tell the chefs take pride in their work. Prices are very affordable and student friendly. The Red Chopsticks has a "happy hour" special from 4 - 6 pm where all sushi is 30% off (during weekdays only I believe). I love this...it has enabled me to sample some of the more expensive rolls. The service is fairly quick and friendly. I haven't tried any non-sushi dishes, but this place definitely has the best sushi in town and could hold its own in a larger city.

I like Red Chopsticks a lot! It looks kind of sketch from the outside, but on the inside it's pretty nice and cozy. I've gotten several rolls, and they've all been at least satisfactory. Their specialty rolls are delicious though! I've tried Jade, Crunch Munch IU, Colts, Pink Lady, and maybe a few others. They explode with flavor! Pink Lady stands out as being especially delicious and decadent. The standard rolls are fine as well. Try the Chicago Roll....it was like an Alaska Roll with a punch! I would highly recommend this restaurant for sushi.

The location is the only slight negative here. You should be prepared to walk at least a couple blocks unless it late enough to use the lot south of the restaurant (behind Mother Bears). The inside was pretty standard with a five or six seat sushi bar, five booths, and maybe ten tables. The waitstaff was very nice and my order probably took less than ten minutes to arrive from the time I placed it. They were not very busy for a Saturday night which obviously contributed to the speed. All of the nigiri that I had was very fresh and without a single piece that was in any worse shape than the others. This is the best quality fish that I have had in a Bloomington sushi bar so far.

All of you guys are fucking crazy! This place is awful. I went there with my roommates and none of us had a good experience. One of my roommates who can't eat rice asked if she could substitute the rice from an entree for lo mein and they could not do this for some reason? My other roommate got the Vietnamese pho and it smelt funky. I have had good pho before and this wasn't it. My roommate didn't even eat it. My other roommate ate some of the pho and got sick the next day. I had pineapple fried rice which comes with shrimp and it was awful. The shrimp did not taste fresh, it had a really unpleasant fishy undertone. There veggie tempura was undercooked as well. Not good. GO to ami instead.

Good place for an inexpensive sushi lunch, lots of combo options. Not the best in town, but far from the worst. Good service.
