I love Thai food, and having just moved from Boston where good Thai food is abundant, I did not have high expectations for Bloomington, IN, but was curious nonetheless. I decided to place a phone order.... That didn't go so well. I was placed on hold, whereby I heard the waitress complaining about customers complaining when she got their orders wrong. Um.... How about you check to make sure you have muted the phone before complaining about your customers?!? Then she hung up on me. Well it's Bloomington I thought, so let's just get in the car and drive there since we're picking up the order anyways. Placed the order and it took AN HOUR for a carry out order!!! "This better be some damn good Thai food", I thought. I ordered the Pad Kee Mow with chicken. I guess I should have specified I'd like the chicken FULLY COOKED. Definitely had a few bites that were not completely cooked. Also, that dish is supposed to come with tomatoes, broccoli, and red and green bell peppers. I had ONE tiny broccoli, NO peppers, and 2 slivers of a tomato. Pretty pathetic My Thai... Sorely disappointed.

My Thai is wonderful!!! The food is absolutely delicious every time. The E 4th Street location is nice but the West Third Street is a bit more attractive inside. I ordered the Green Curry (3 out of 4 spicy) and it was great. The prices are very reasonable and they have a lunch menu (11am - 2pm) which has good prices. My wife really likes the Thai Ice Tea. For appetizers I would recommend Thai Spring Rolls. And if you're in the mood for soup (probably not now since it's nearly 100°F) I'd recommend the Chicken Noodle Soup. The portions are are just right...not too much or too little. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. If you like Thai food you must eat at My Thai.

For Thai we used to go to the other end of 4th St but now we find ourselves going here. The portions are a bit smaller so we don't often have leftovers. But it's tastier. (For reference: we like dinner at Thai Spice in Greenwood still better.) We've enjoyed the pad thai, the stir-fried Vietnamese-style asparagus & shrimp (sometimes on the specials board), the green curry, pad prik king, the chicken satay, and some others I can't remember. All very good. They'll make it really spicy if you want. I want, and they do it well: not just hot, but also flavorful. We haven't loved everything. Once ordered the salmon panang. It's not a bad concept, but would've been better with better salmon. And just last night the rice wasn't very good: the jasmine rice was overdone -- like, too much water and time -- and the sticky rice was rubbery. But those were exceptions. We've been there ten times or so for lunch and dinner and always liked it. The service we got was always at least good, and sometimes very good.

My Thai is probably one of the better tasting Thai restaurants in Bloomington. That said, there are a few things left wanting that prevent me from giving it a higher rating. Service: really depends who's waiting at the restaurant that day. I've had super prompt service and really terrible service before. Take out is always a decent option. Just make sure nothing spills while you're transporting it. Food: the best foods on the menu (IMHO) are the green curry and drunken man fried rice. The green curry is spot on in flavor and spice, creamy and well balanced. You can definitely amp up the spice rating on this one because the coconut milk neutralizes how hot it is. The drunken man is greasy-in-a-good-way and very well seasoned. The other menu items aren't bad - they just aren't stand outs for me. In terms of price, it's about standard for what you will get for Bloomington 4th streeters. That said, if you're craving thai - My Thai is a solid choice.

The food is wonderful! The prices are what I expected. The place is small and they only take reservations for 6 or more. The crunchy pineapple chicken was the best of the six dishes we ordered. The Pad Thai is among the best I've had. The tempura was just ok. Service was ok. She did fill the water glasses and the tea but forgot to bring the soda we ordered. Oh well. It was a very busy night and we had a great meal so can't complain too much. I would love to come back on a nice evening and eat outside. A must if visiting IU and wanting good Thai food. Go here!

By now, we are all familiar with the Americanized Chinese food found in the Whitevilles that dot the American landscape. Thai food, on the other hand, is just starting to become ubiquitous enough to not seem out of a place in a sleepy Midwestern college town. My Thai Cafe is fairly impressive considering where it is, but to what extent should I factor that into the overall score? Arriving, one is greeted by the largely White staff and presented with a menu that lists Japanese appetizers like tempura and edamame along with traditional Thai restaurant options. I ordered the "masaman" curry, which was fundamentally a coconut curry that did not offer much excitement beyond the slight coconut flavor. My dining companions and I all appreciate the rice molded into the shape of a heart. In another life, sure, I would take someone on a date here. Overall the service was quite good, and the locals, including some number of Asian (if not Thai) customers seem to enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Summary: I think I'll stick with "my" Thai in California.

Food was fair. Soup tasted like bouillon cubes with mixed corn, peas and Carrots. Bleh. Curry decent, orange chicken just okay.

I am in love with My Thai's food, and regularly visit their Westside and greenwood locations. The 4th steet location offers the same consistently delicious food and good service, but I dislike the atmosphere at this location. The house is small, cramped and smells terrible (like sewage) in the summer. It is very off-putting. I prefer to drive farther to the west side just to avoid walking in and losing my appetite due to the smell.

When I'm craving pad thai, this is my go-to place in Bloomington. Excellent service plus delicious food at a good price. They also have lunch specials that are slightly smaller portion sizes than their regular menu and orders come with a small vegetarian soup. It's also located on 4th Street, which is parallel to Kirkwood Ave., the main street that leads downtown. 4th Street is known for it's boutique international restaurants, My Thai being one of them. Though the restaurant is small, My Thai has a nice outdoor patio, which is perfect during the summer and fall. Overall, a must try!

This is a pretty regular go-to option for us. The patio is a wonderful option, especially since they have such limited indoor seating. I love the pineapple chicken (served in half a pineapple) and the tom yum soup. The chef tends to be a little spicy, so be cautious when ordering. Slightly Americanized Thai food, this is a great place for someone "new" or "nervous" about ethnic food. We love all the little fun touches on the plating and the staff is always very friendly.

One of my favorite dining place in B-town! love their green curry, pad sew yum, soup and tom yum soup noodle with tofu. Always go to there with lunch special and my favorite drunk man fried rice, and you will also have a free vegetable soup. Try their thai iced tea, recommend for 5-star!

  • Sue Y.

Mixed feelings. Great for lunch when it's not that crowded. Service can be better if they actually pay attention into that. Food has a stable good quality. Awesome options for desert. Can't ask more for a neat restaurant downtown.

I'm a regular dinner in my thai, I love their thai, and lunch hours prices are really cheap around 7 dollars, I love their TOM KHA soup( spicy, sour and a little sweet) I also love their green curry which has cute love shape rice, pad thai and pad see ew.

I'm very surprised that this location doesn't have a higher rating. Every time I go, which is at least once a month, I end up waiting for 15 minutes or so for a table! My Thai has a great selection of food and everything is very presentable. The rice comes in a heart shape, carrots are carved into flowers or birds, it's the little things that count. I always get Pad Kee Mow whenever I go, I have had other things but this is definitely the best. It's flavorful and spicy, and the perfect amount of food. The Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Cashew Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Curries are very good as well. I recommend getting either of the spring roll appetizers and Thai iced tea! The reason I give this place four stars instead of five is because of the service. Since I frequently go to My Thai I have noticed that two of the waiters are very nice and friendly, but the others are rude and don't seem to care to serve the tables at all. Also there have been times where my table sat unnoticed for over half an hour after finishing our meals. Other than that, I will not stop going to My Thai as long as I am living in Bloomington! It's my favorite 4th St. restaurant by far.

We wasted one hour in waiting because the waitress FORGOT to take our order to the kitchen. Hadn't we make an inquiry on our own we would wait and starve forever. And no one said or did anything about their stupid faults (just explained that they are really busy, like I care). And the food is greasy. I'll never go there again.

Based purely on the wait when dining in at My Thai, I would have guessed the overall rating would be higher than it is. Seems like everyone loves the place! I came here twice recently, both during later meal times, in the 8PM hour, once on a Friday and once on a Saturday. Both times I had to wait at least ten minutes. The first time, my group considered leaving, but others waiting told us it was worth the wait. My friend asked what was the best thing on the menu, and we were told the mango curry. She ordered that, and it did not disappoint. I got the Pad see ewe, and it was pretty standard, though I was surprised that though a noodle dish, I also got the delightful heart shaped white rice on the side. I took that home with some of leftover meal and made another dish out of it. Another friend got the wonton soup, which we expected a mild, chicken broth flavor but rather got some flavor I couldn't quite pinpoint (maybe lemongrass?) I didn't prefer it. The second visit was due to the mango coconut curry flavor I couldn't get out of my head. I wanted to order some myself and did. I got level 2 spice, which was nice for me. My boyfriend got level 3, and though he liked the dish, he said it was a bit sweet, and he would get a different curry next time. Both visits, I got the combination appetizer, which is mostly fried things that come in prepares - was a little hard to share with 3 people - but great to fill me up some, so I could take some of my entree home. As I mentioned, there tends to be a wait here, as the dining room is very small. The outside area is great but also was full when I went the first time (second time was too cold). I am definitely going back but maybe trying take out next time rather than waiting.

The food is amazing (my personal favorite is the drunken man fried rice). I always wonder who is throwing down in that tiny little house kitchen. But the dining atmosphere of the 4th street location is what makes me give this restaurant 3 stars instead of 5. The house that My Thai is housed in is way too small, and it always feels very cramped. Also, I have had my share of rude waitresses. These days I prefer to just order carry out and not deal with any of it.

  • Jack B.

This place has really gone down-hill. The spicy chicken used to be one of my favorite dishes in the world. Tonight will finally be my "last time". It is overcooked like the last few times and not even mixed in the sauce. I always get Thai Hot and it is never consistent- tonight it looked as if somebody took a bottle of red pepper flakes and just dumped a big pile on top- once again failing to even mix it up! Here's a hint My Thai- try using real Thai peppers- this is supposed to be Thai food!!!!

One of my favorite restaurants in B-town! Thai iced tea is the best! I highly recommend pineapple fired rice and tom yum noodle soup! They remodeled the outside area this summer.

One of the best, if not the best, ethnic restaurant in Bloomington, IN. 5 stars! Pros - Plating is artistic and fun. - Entrees are full of flavor, authentic. - Leaps and bounds the best Thai restaurant in Bloomington, despite others with a deeper history in the region. - Get the Pad Kee Mow! - Both locations in Bloomington are nice. If you prefer eating outdoors, go to the 4th Street location. If sitting inside, you will enjoy the West side location more. Roomier better for a small group. Cons - None that I can think of! Honestly. Hope this helps!

Food was amazing. The cucumber salad was delicious sweet and spicy. We also ordered the yellow curry and crispy basil chicken ... Both are highly recommended.

Delicious food. Service was slow and we had three different waitresses during our time here. Check out took forever as our party had 4 separate bills. A man, who appeared to be the owner, was completely unorganized and spacey as he tried to figure out how to charge each of our credit cards. If the check-out process were quicker, we'd return. Very friendly service prior to that. Convenient location as we were headed to a Wine & Canvas class afterward.

First Thai experience and planning to go back! Lots on the menu. Clean, friendly, and food was great!

Food is still EXCELLENT but a few things need to be addressed: 1. To-go lunch special packaging: Since they don't deliver, you have to pick-up food. Given a lot of the meals are sauce based, the lunch specials should be packaged in plastic SEALED containers. Serving them to-go in styrofoam containers is stupid. I ended up with no joke ALL my curry sauce in the plastic delivery bag. Nothing was left in the styrofoam container. it's gross and messy. As someone who's family owned an indian restaurant (curries galore) we packaged them in neat little divided plastic containers to prevent or at least minimize leakage or straight up spilling. Most restuarants do that. It's just common sense. I understand with lunch you are monitoring the serving size ... so get the small containers. 2. Also, no brown rice. Should be an option! I come home and make brown rice since they don't serve it. 3. Prices online don't match what you pay. They recently increased the prices (I am willing to pay) but it has already caused confusion for people! 4. Closed Mondays. Unfortunate. I want it every Monday!

This is among the best Thai places in Bloomington, in fact I believe all three of the best are from the same owner and all do a consistently good job. I work close to My Thai Cafe on 4th so I love to lunch here. All the food is terrific but I especially appreciate being able to eat a salad such as green papaya which is interesting and not enough to fill you up for the next week. I really hate feeling sleepy at work after lunch from a heavy meal. It is also fun to take people here who are not familiar with Thai. Setting is pleasant and non threatening in a house so it is easy to engage. Though tables are close the fact that it is in an old house takes the offense out of that. Service is always good for me and time for food to come very reasonable. I recommend it.

Oh My Thai, your food is good, but the people that work there aren't. The last couple times we've dined in, the service has been beyond slow. But last night really takes the cake. We were trying to order carry out, and proceeded to call the restaurant at least 10 times in a half hour period. We finally drove over there and when we went inside to order we asked them if the phone wasn't working. No, they told us that they were full and that take out orders were taking up to an hour and a half so they just STOPPED picking up the phone. We called when we were driving over and they still didn't pick up, however our take out order only took about 10 minutes so that makes less than no sense. We were ordering for a large group, which is why we drove over, but I'm pretty over the incompetence of this place.

  • Liz K.

I'd say the worst Thai in town. Curries are sugary and lack herbs and spices typical of Thai food. We split two dishes with a spice of 4 and could hardly taste it. The place was packed, but I kept thinking...don't these people know about esan Thai?

  • Jeff S.

While waiting for a table in the foyer next to the restrooms, heard the toilet flush and the door flies open. A male kitchen staff member walks out and heads back to the kitchen, clearly he did not wash his hands as the toilet was still flushing when we saw him. We left and chose another restaurant.

Finally! I am so glad Btown is finally stepping up their Thai food game. This is hands down the best Thai food in town, it's no wonder they opened two locations. The atmosphere is great. Cozy and welcoming. I think the owner used to do interior design. The food is great. Best pad Thai and pad see ewe in town. Their lunch specials are good and reasonably priced. I wish the portions were a bit larger, but the quality of the food is good enough to make up for it. Their downtown location is a bit small, but their west side location is much bigger. Probably one of the best spots in 4th street.

  • Celeste M.

This is hands down the best Thai restaurant anywhere. My husband and I are obsessed with Thai food, and we became regulars here a few years ago. We always try new Thai restaurants everywhere we go, but nothing ever compares to this place. Their red curry, pad kra prow, pad kee mow, and drunken man friend rice are all amazing. Best red curry literally anywhere. Their staff is also very friendly and helpful, and they can make your dish however you want (like with no eggs). I will say that the only downside is that they tend to spice things mildly, even if you order it the hottest possible. But that doesn't change that their food is amazing. I love making family and friends go here that say they don't like Thai food, and then hearing them say how wrong they were after they eat here. Love this place.

My first time at My Thai proved to be very friendly, fast, & delicious! It was very busy on this Tuesday evening, so there was a small wait, but no more than ten minutes. The only downfall was that we were seated in the front near the window, so it was extremely cold in this month of December, so we had to keep our jackets on throughout dinner. The service was very friendly from the two who served us and even made an exception to one of their dishes (replacing the type of noodle). It was so good, I even ordered some to take home! I'm excited to go during the warmer months. Loved my bird carrot as garnish!

  • Mel N.

The entrees tasted fine. The Thai teenager we ate with confirmed that the food was fairly authentic. The food was highly over priced. We were five minutes late for the weekend lunch prices (our fault) but $13 for a lunch sized portion was too much. Also, I hate when gratuity is automatically added but you get crappy service.

  • L T.

Like they say, it's all about the lunch specials; seems high for dinner, given what you get, but just right at lunch. Enjoy! I like the curries.

  • Diana G.

Nice. The green curry was really spicy but did taste wonderful. And the spring roll was not bad.

    (4)
  • David M.

Can't judge the food at all because we never got served. We were seated in the very back corner and were passed over by just about every server working. Finally after over 15 minutes, we left.

    (1)
  • Ellen G.

I like the food -- especially the masman curry. But, the place gets really crowded, and the tables are too close together. And, it smells like garbage.

  • Chloe J.

Great food however the service is horrible! The female servers have too much attitude. The service ruins this place.

  • Eli S.

    This is good thai food.

  • David F.

Really enjoy the food which is consistently good. The only issue I have is that I always take it to go and 95% of the time the to go packaging is so flimsy that it spills. Would love to see that change. Thanks

  • Jessica T.

Great Thai food. Fast service. Good balance of flavors, very fresh, gets crowded though!

    (5)
  • Meagan B.

I love My Thai! The flavors are great, the food is fresh and it is pretty authentic. Their fresh basil shrimp rolls are awesome. It is a little expensive for drinks, so drink elsewhere or go there for the lunch specials

    (5)
  • Wendy S.

Try Essen Thai, Delicious Thai or the west side location instead! My husband and I waited over 30 minutes to be waited on and an extra 30 to receive our food. When it finally arrived - his dinner was cold. Service on the west side is so much better.
