Well where do we begin? I know! Ordered an octopus salad with cuke and seaweed. It had dried seaweed that normally is reserved for miso soup, wads of it most of which hadn't even had proper time to soak in water and expand. The sauce was a nasty mix of dashi and oil. The whole thing was around $5. Well I didn't think it could get worse but it did, the sushi was like something you would buy in a grocery store, but a little bit worse. Oh and the last thing I had ordered was the gyudon. It for some odd reason had noodles and rice, and some very flavorless tough meat. Overall a very big $27 disappointment. I think I'll go to Steak N'Shake!

So many years ago this was the only sushi/Japanese restaurant in Bloomington. At the time they were serving descent food. Not any more!!! I tried it a couple of times lately and it was terrible both times. Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else.

Having tried another sushi restaurant in Bloomington, near 3rd and Jordan, I was beginning to think that it was just not possible to get decent sushi in this town. Mikado, however, removed my doubts. I am very glad I found this place! The sushi was pretty fresh, and the soba was delicious. The atmosphere left something to be desired, and the wait-service was a bit ho-hum. Otherwise, a good local sushi spot. There's plenty of parking as it is part of the mall, though away from the main buildings. Go to Mikado for decent sushi, but don't expect a high dining experience.

The sushi was NOT good and the service was even worse. How's that for a combo! Too bad Yelp doesn't allow 0 stars because this joint isn't even worth 1 star. Not only was our waitress completely rude, the other employees acted as if they were annoyed we were there. I should have known better when I saw Mikado is located in a strip mall. If you're looking for sushi in Bloomington, go to Domo's.

Mikado has average sushi, but their service is terrible. I waited 3 hours for my delivery. I was lied to on the phone about the status of my order. Everyone who I spoke with seemed flustered and didn't know how to run take out. I will never be ordering from or eating at Mikado again.

I used to love this place. Last year, I went for my birthday and was not impressed. The service was horrible. If you do decide to go, Here's what to order: appetizer: the Mikado Maki (ask them to make it with asparagus), Main: any of the sushi rolls or Tekkadon (make a special request to make it spicy), and the banana tempura for dessert.

By far the best sushi in town. Their otoro, sweet shrimp, Kumamoto oysters are so fresh. And Joey's recommendations on what is freshest on a given night are always very helpful. For instance, the scallops he recommended on Wednesday were so sweet, so fresh! Friendly servers and good service.

Hands down, the best sushi in Bloomington. My aunt and uncle who have been here 30 years agree, and I won't even go anywhere else now. Favorite appetizer: veggie tempura - lightly battered, crisp, yet not heavy. Delicious. The specialty sushi rolls are amazing. The unagi roll is my favorite, unless a chef's special has eel in it, then that is my favorite! It's a little bit more expensive then some other places in town, but in my opinion, well worth the few extra dollars for top quality sushi. Also, try their location in downtown Indianapolis.

poor service and the manager is a jerk. the sushi is way overpriced for an old strip mall joint. there are plenty of other places like sushibar and domo.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Tom M. I ordered a few sushi rolls and the seafood was chewy and smelled. Literally the entire roll tasted as if it had been prepared at Kroger, but I think Kroger's sushi chef may even use fresher ingredients. Definitely overpriced for the quality of sushi delivered.

Really bad. I've given them many attempts and each time the experience is terrible just in another way. From eating in dining room and being completely ignored, to waiting +2 hours for delivery food to arrive and for it to be the wrong order. This place really is horrible

I would order from them all the time. The only thing I liked was their katsudon, because other things that I had tried didn't seem fresh or were fairly disappointing for the price. I had heard that they had bad service, but I never had to deal with them since I mostly just order for delivery. One time I ordered, and after 80 minutes, it had not arrived. I called them, and the person on the other end sounded annoyed and said my order was still there; the delivery person hadn't picked it up. When I asked "do you have any idea how long it'll be?" she was more clearly annoyed, said she didn't know, and literally hung up on me. Now, I'm sure it wasn't her fault, but what kind of business are you running when your employees are rude to your customers? Not only is their average-quality food overpriced, but their service is bad. I paid for the only dish that I thought was decent quality, had to wait indefinitely for it to arrive, and deal with a cranky waitress. That was too much for me. They have lost a customer, and I recommend you steer clear of this one, too.

I don't know what these one-star reviews are talking about, perhaps they had a sole bad experience. No need to disregard Mikado, though! I love this place. Always great/fresh sushi, knowledgeable and kind itamaes and kind wait staff. Sit at the bar and ask the itamae for suggestions!

Best sushi in Bloomington. Unfortunately, it's the most expensive. Usually, I can get out of there for $20 to $25 and be completely full. While this is a lot for a meal I don't find it unreasonable. Typically I stick with the normal rolls (spicy tuna, yellow tail, etc...) as they seem to provide the best value. I may get one of the fancy rolls as they are more expensive, however they don't seem to be worth the extra money. The nigri is a little pricey for two pieces. Also, it looks like they have a wide selection of Japanese food (something other than chicken teriyaki, though I think they have that too). The traditional Japanese food is expensive. Of course with limited options in Bloomington, this may be your only option, unless you do it yourself. Overall, this is my favorite "pricier" Japanese place for a nice dinner. I'd head to Sushi Bar for something quick and cheap.

Love their authentic Japanese handmade food, but the price is a little higher than other Japanese restaurant in town. Love seafood udon, Unaju and lobster curry rice, sometimes I order take-out and average wait time is approximately 15-20 minutes. They have a small number of guests even in dinner time, don't know why the reviews here are bad, the server is kind of friendly.

I tried this place long time ago because a Japanese friend recommended this place, surprisingly, the quality of food wasn't outstanding, and the price is way too high, I ordered udon and sushi, they were expensive than other Japanese restaurants, I end up spend around 24 dollars a meal, not impressive

I was really surprised by this place. Finally got a chance to try recently. I had udon with tempura and some sushi. Sat up at the sushi bar and watched the preparation. The food was surprisingly good.

Mikado, which is Spanish for "My Kado" is hands down not the best Japanese restaurant available in Bloomington. They serve the most undelicious Japanese food I think I've ever had. Not that it's easy to get fresh fish and whatnot in the Midwest, but your different dishes should taste different from each other. The servers are always polite (although service is pretty slow) and the restaurant does serve edible food providing nutrients to my body, so I can't in good conscience give only one star, but I can't highly recommend it either. I'm actually reviewing this based on multiple visits because my administration always insists on eating here when they're in town, so this wasn't a one-off review.

The atmosphere was a little stale when I went, but perhaps it was a slow time during the weekdays. I had some sushi rolls that were a delight. In the end, although I really enjoyed myself, I can enjoy myself at other restaurants as well.

Wonderful food...wait staff is warm and engaging! Kelly and Tya rock! If you love this fare, stop in! They make dining like getting a massage!

Read some positive reviews, but they all seem to be from over a year ago. This place was extremely empty on a Thursday night at 7:30 pm, and now it's easy to see why. Skeleton crew for the most part. It took at least 10 minutes before the server even knew that we were her customers. Wine list is extensive, but also likely over 10 years old based on the vintages printed, and they basically had none of these wines. House wine wasn't too bad. Pretty limited special roll menu, and we had to "re-order" twice because they didn't have any cream cheese, and they didn't have any king crab. Eventually got the Manhattan roll I believe (Rainbow roll at most other sushi places). It was okay, but the fish on top of the California roll was strangely warm. There are better sushi places in Bloomington for sure.

Saw some positive reviews and went to this place, food came in late,we have other things to do so we asked the waitress if she can tell the kitchen to speed up, and we got a "NO", instead of giving this rude answer, she can tell us she will try, obviously she just didn't want to, so I just won't come back.

The first thing I smelled when I got my order (came late) was fish. For anyone who thinks sushi should smell like fish, you are very mistaken. Not only was the sushi unimpressive and stank, but the other apps I ordered were terrible too. I ordered a cucumber/seaweed and seafood salad with 'japanese vinegar' on it. To my surprise not only did it not have any seaweed but apparently japanese vinegar doesn't taste like vinegar. Don't waste your money.

We were going here 20 plus years ago when we had to go through MacDonalds for our small children first. (Now they are huge sushi fans.) It has been consistently the best sushi in Bloomington all these years and compares well to sushi we have enjoyed in London, San Francisco, LA, Toronto, Vancouver and so on (he said namedropping shamelessly). We have never been unhappy with the service that I can recall. The atmosphere is quiet without being "hushed." For various reasons we may eat sushi elsewhere in Bloomington but at Mikado we always enjoy our meal without reservation.

Formal dining style (no tepanyaki grill) sushi. Outstanding variety, very traditional. They have bento boxes, and a wide range of appetizers. It's not inexpensive, but the rolls are perfect, and I'd trust the sashimi to not have a gamey or chewy taste to it-- very fresh. They also have noodle dishes. Good for entertaining or dates. Has a more formal feel than many restaurants in the neighborhood.... a more adult feel.

Try anything whatever you want in mikado! Cost a little bit much...but it worth the price

Best sushi in bloomington. I'm from California and was disappointed by some of the sushi around here. I'm not talking about fancy rolls just real sushi. The fish is good the rice is perfect and the service great. You pay for what you get and the slices of fish could be better. But it's the closest to fresh authentic sushi I've found here.
