We had lunch here today based on a friends recommendation. He is no longer a friend. HA! Just kidding, no seriously. lol Today was Friday August 14th and we did have lunch here. Prices were decent. Pet peeves of mine is I have to be able to identify the meat I am eating or I cannot eat it, thus I usually stick to places like PF Changs or Pei Wei for my Chinese food. But they don't have either in Bloomington. Staff totally not friendly or welcoming. Strike one. They only take cash. Seriously!! Strike two. When we asked for white meat only chicken they looked at us as if we were crazy. We finally got their version of white meat chicken for about $1.50 upcharge. I asked for fried rice, and in Indiana I have to always clarify what they will put in it as in all the other 49 states in the union they come with egg, peas, carrots and onions with the soy. Here you get the onion and a couple chunks of veggies and some pink pork. Again for an upcharge. They only have canned soda. Strike 3. I can put away a 6 pack in a meal so that was inconvenient. This is most definitely not a place that we will return to. The sauce on the General Tso's chicken is the only saving grace and is what gained them a 2nd star. It was pretty good. The other person had the Cashew Chicken and said it was ok but nothing to write home about.

Last minute decision to pick up takeout from here. You have to pay cash or check no credit cards! We had a latge order and sat and watched as they made it. I was happy to see everything made fresh. It was quick and good serving sizes. Was it the best chinese food ive ever had? No, but it was good. The highlights- The vegetable fried rice had lots of fresh veggies and the lemon chicken had a very good sauce.

My priorities when eating out are: good food, heaping portions, at a rock bottom price. Dragon Chinese delivers on all three. My wife and I split a lunch order of Beef Lo Mein. It was tasty and the large portion size meant we almost had leftovers. Price was a very reasonable $5.70. I have also eaten at the Lucky Express in downtown Bloomington for their $5 lunch special and while the location of that establishment is better (near campus instead of next to K-Mart) I prefer the food at Dragon. Bring cash as credit cards are not accepted. One final note: If you place a high value on a smile from the lady working the counter this is not your place.

The food is decent and pretty fast. The cash only thing kinda sucks, but hey maybe it's keeping costs down, who knows. You have to run next door to the K-Mart to get some cash out of the ATM. I really liked the orange beef.

Average Chinese food...average price. If you are GF, some menu items to choose from, but bring your own GF soy sauce.

Definitely a good place to eat, hands down met my expectations! The generals chicken, lo mein and crab rangoons were delicious. I was a little hesitant when the cashier suggested fish with garlic sauce and house special mei fun soup, but I said what the heck and got it anyways. Best suggestion I was given all day. The nice thing about this place was that my kids loved eating the generals & sweet/sour chicken.

Dragon is great if you're looking for some inexpensive greasy Chinese take-out. If you're looking for anything better quality, though, there are far better places to visit. If you go on a higher volume day at a higher volume time (i.e. Friday or Saturday after 7pm or Monday - Friday at lunch) you're more likely to have your food made fresh and, therefore, get a better quality meal. Fair warning, they do not accept plastic so you'll need to have cash or a check drawn on a local bank.

You can tell when I like a place because I don't write a bunch of sarcastic poo in my reviews. Dargon and Dargon Express have been my go-to Chinese restaurants for food since coming to IU-B for college. My recommendations that I think anybody would appreciate (assuming you're not a veggie lovers pizza person) are: fried dumplings (aka pot stickers), sesame chicken (if you like sweet with no spice) or General Tso's chicken (if you like spicier), and chicken & broccoli. Other items that I repeat eat are: Egg Foo Young, chicken chow mein (which is actually fried noodles if you translated it literally in Mandarin), sweet & sour chicken, and crab meat Rangoon. Worst item I've probably had was the sweet & soggy chicken because I waited too long to pick up a carry out order.

I went to Dragon Chinese this evening, and I have no idea if it's good or not. I walked in, walked up to the counter, and the woman behind the counter didn't even acknowledge my existence. She was watching, intently, a woman who was fussing with her toddler. I kept looking at the woman, and I even said "hi" and she never even looked at me. Maybe a bad night, maybe a bad situation, but I just walked out the door. I was ignored, and I tried to be noticed. I'll try again some other time...maybe.

Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Bloomington. The fried duck breast is the best I have ever had, and I live in the San Francisco area (trust me, there is crappy Chinese food out here too). No ambiance...but that's part of the ambiance. Cheap, fresh, hot, HUGE portions. There are some pretty authentic dishes too, like duck and whole fried fish. The Dragon Express on the east side is great too. I guess haters must prefer Mark Pi's or something like that.

With a wealth of Chinese restaurants to choose from in Bloomington, it has to be special to get my return business. Dragon flat out smokes the competition with quality Chinese dish offerings. The staff is friendly and service is very prompt. Generals Chicken and Mixed Chinese Vegetables are my personal favs. One late night I entered the Dragon at closing time, they fired the wok up, prepared me my favorite, and waited while I completed the meal. Check Dragon out, I doubt you'll find a reason not to return time and time again.

This place sucks. Though the food is cheap which is great for college students, the quality of the food is very inconsistent. Many times the food is over cooked because it sits in the back until they serve it to people, but if you go during peak times it can be good.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
