Been a long time since I've been here, on a game day no less. Well, it was football so the place was not packed. The food was awesome and the waitress was friendly. She discussed some local beers and her favorites. Food was prompt, hot & excellent and the beers cold.

A three star bar that gets one, should be two, added for serving zombie dust. Nice outdoor area, good indoor space, all in all an above average establishment. It's the kind of place I wouldn't bother to review unless something really good or bad happened when I stopped in. Fortunately, in this case it was the former. They may not have it often, but any bar that keeps up with the availability of zombie dust is a winner in my book.

One side is a restaurant, the other side is a bar. The staff was friendly, going over the history of the building and something about a hidden door as you walk in that no one ever notices. Goes upstairs, but only to a room full of junk. Boo.

Went into this establishment excited and hungry. Ordered a double Jameson on the rocks and waited for a menu. In the time it took to get a menu I witnessed my bartender scratch her ass and then proceed to pour a beer. Innocent enough except she used the same index finger to wipe foam from the beer. I am talking from end to end over the top of the glass. Basically stuck her finger in the first drink the poor patron had. That was it for me. My rating is 100% on this so take it for its worth.

I've always loved Crazy Horse. But recently they "revamped" the menu. Which seems to mean...bought square plates, changed the menu to include fancier sounding things, and made the portion size of their famous mushrooms atrociously small. Exceptionally disappointed. Not sure if we will be back any time soon.

I went here at the recommendation of the front desk attendant at my hotel, which was a stone's throw away from the Crazy Horse. The atmosphere was fun, there was a good crowd and loud, energizing music. They have an extensive beer list, which is always a good thing, especially in a college town. However the food was completely tasteless. And I do mean TASTELESS. I don't think there was a bottle of salt or pepper in the place. I ordered the burger with the house bacon. How you can mess up a burger I'll never understand. Would not recommend that you waste your money. Not to mention they have an unfriendly guy working the front door and a "seat yourself" policy where you then have to flag down a waitress to get served. I will say that my waitress was great, once I caught her attention If you're just going out for drinks, stop by. But don't waste any of that money on the food. You'll thank me for it.

Food = $@*! Service = not impressed Drinks = cheapish? Ambiance = slightly trashy; building and decor needs work Overall, would rather go without than return for food or drink.

Decent place with a good burger and fries. We all got some variation of a burger, the chili burger, the mac&cheese and the English. We all liked our burger. We went during off hours so it was not crowded and therefore pleasantly mellow. It had a few attractive beer selections, but I will admit to be sort of spoiled in that regard. :) Feels like a solid, local's hangout.

Adorable decorations and nice service. Wonderful soda bread and adorable drinks. Yet I don't quite enjoy the food there.

The thing about crazy horse is that they completely redid their menu recently, and let me say, the new menu SUCKS. Their old menu was amazing, literally amazing, they had so many dishes that me, my husband and my father all absolutely loved. And what did their new menu do? They completely got rid of literally everything we all loved... My dad loved the juanitas fajitas and Caesar wrap, well those are gone. Husband loved the old English burger, that's gone too. And me, I loved the hummus pitta, veggie wrap and veggie burger. Those are all gone too. Well, they have the veggie burger, but it sucks now. They don't offer any of their old sauces and their new sauces suck. Their "hot sauce" which is a horrible buffalo sauce is...horrible. I loved the sweet Asian chili sauce and this is the only restaurant I've found where I could have it with my burger and fries, and they got rid of it. What I'm most mad about is that their simply amazing hummus pita is gone. It's like they got rid of all of their best most delicious dishes and replaced them with horrible crap, like crab mac and cheese. Just what were they thinking. PLEASE, I beg them, bring back their old menu. My family and I have no reason to ever return because everything we loved is gone. They're definitely losing customers with all of these horrible changes.

Just had the worst experience here. I specifically asked the server if my drink was on special. She assured me it was. When I got the bill, however, it was more expensive than the special price. I approached the manager and told him about what happened and he wouldn't take the extra charge off because "we've already used the extra alcohol and I can't get that back." I know how much that extra alcohol costs them... I think they can afford to make up for their waitress's mistake.

Went here with a large group after the Fountain Square tree lighting, so I wasn't terribly surprised to have a bit of slow service. For what it is, I was very pleased with Crazy Horse. I had two martinis - dark chocolate and strawberry shortcake (which looked like and tasted similar to Strawberry Nesquik), and I was quite pleased. I'd even go as far as to say surprised considering this seemed like a pretty typical bar, not somewhere I'd go for a great martini. I had tastes of the chicken strips as well as the spinach artichoke dip and both were quite good. Nothing special considering the selections but better than average in their categories I would say.

Good, reasonable, flavorful food! Hubby and I do not do alcohol, so we go there for the food---the cajun is nicely sliced, almost a London broil style, with generous sides---black bean salsa and cajun slaw were wonderful---mac n cheese fine, etc. Menu is diverse and quite a nice surprise for a college town bar...comfortable atmosphere...good service.

Why does this place ALWAYS smell like raw sewage?

  • D H.

I have eaten here several times for lunch when in the area. Food is always good and good size portions. You have to get the fries! Yummy!! Friendly service with good staff some times a lil slow but always with a smile. Good beer selection on tap and in bottles.

  • Kjirsten K.

Decent beer selection and really good cheese sticks. I've heard it gets douchey in there, but I've only been during the day and it's pretty chill at that time. I've actually really enjoyed my visits there. Unfortunately, we hoped to peep some of the playoff games, but had a really hard time seeing the TV. For some reason, we always sit at the tall tables along the wall and I'm not sure why because they're very awkward. The table is small, there isn't room for your legs under the table, and there is a ledge along the edge of the table that kind of gets in the way. Plus, the table tops are made of copper, which can give your hands/arm a weird penny smell if you rest on it.

I have been to Crazy horse a few times with friends and always look forward to my next visit. Sometimes we order only drinks (happy hour weekdays 4-7) and sometimes we eat. Most recently I had black bean nachos. They crumbled a black bean burger over the chips and add all the delicious things like jalapenos and cheese. They were awesome. Service is friendly, atmosphere is pleasant both inside and out, and live music fills the venue on weekends. Conveniently located on Kirkwood near all the other shops and eateries. Half price wine on Sundays and Wednesdays.

True, this place is borderline dive bar. So, I base my 4 stars on a sliding scale. That said, I think this is a great place to go for a beer, burger and a good time. I've been there in the middle of the weekday for a lazy lunch and on a busy Saturday night with a loud group of friends. In any situation, I've always had fun, friendly attentive service and good bar food. Their burgers are big and greasy, just how I like em. And their cheese-sticks are a whole meal for 2 people... easily. I always have a good time, and will definitely be back with my friends. They have great, friendly bar-staff. It's a good place to go for a change from the blaring noise of Kilroy's.

Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: Service was slow When I finally got into Bloomington, it was around 10:30. I was traveling the whole day so I didn't get to eat dinner so I was looking for a place to grab a late night meal. Since this place was right near my hotel I decided to check this place out. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with this place at all. The service here was crappy. When I got here they said they were still serving regular entrees, but when my waitress finally came over, she said they were only serving appetizers. WTF? I told her that the hostess told me they were serving regular entrees, but she said she couldn't do anything about it. Anyway, when I finally ordered chicken wing tenders and spinach dip, it literally took 45 minutes. I could've sworn all you have to do is deep fry that crap. Even worse, my coworker ordered a beer on tap. However, when she brought it over, it was in a bottle. When my coworker complained, I literally saw the waitress go to the bar and just pour the bottle into a glass. I told my coworker, but he didn't care so I didn't make a big deal about it. If you're an visitor to Bloomington, don't come here.

Dominate the beer wheel like my wife and I did and you get a T shirt and your names on a plaque on the wall. They only had the shirt in XXL though. When I informed them that my wife wasn't a XXL, the manager said "congratulations". I like the grouper sandwich.

  • Zedar B.

I am a fan of the Crazy Horse, maybe because I drink and do not eat here. (My advice: Stay away from the salads, although the chicken wings look good.) I added this business to Yelp's "Nightlife/bar" category. Viewed as a bar instead of a "restaurant," it deserves at least an average (three star) review. It is a great place to have a pitcher of local brew and visit with friends. There is now a secret room in the back (not sure when this was added). Our waitress brazenly rubbed up against my husband when I was there, but other than that, the service was fine.

One of the more underrated places in town. Great beer and liquor selection, neat old ambiance, and some better-than-average bar food selections. The Thunder Gulch chili cheeseburger is absolutely worth having. Food quality is better than Yogi's, atmosphere is more relaxed than Scotty's.

  • L B.

Best cheese sticks in the world. On the latest visit we tried the appetizer fried mushrooms... Same light and crunchy batter on portobello mushrooms as on the cheese sticks. Delicious! Next time we'll ask for the same great marinara that comes with the cheese sticks rather than the honey mustard that came with 'shrooms. Crazy Horse is one of our favorite downtown Bloomington restaurants. Relaxed, reasonably priced and good food. Did I mention the best cheese sticks in the world?

Special thanks to manager Chuck for letting me reserve the back bar - for free - for a surprise birthday party. Kudos also to our bartender for his quick and dedicated service - no small feat given our group of 15 thirsty people. Appetizers (cheese fries, buffalo wings, chicken fingers) were tasty, there was no cake cutting fee, and the glasses were ice cold (literally). So glad I chose Crazy Horse.

Went again Saturday. Food was OK, not great. The fries had some weird seasoning that must be fairly new, or I just never mentioned it before. Either way it was kind of gross. Although my girlfriend liked it. Service was quick though!!!

S-L-O-W service. Average food. Cool building. Smells like old beer. Pretty streetside outdoor seating. We ordered wings (which I am sure were Tyson-brand Individually Quick Frozen [IQF] wings) with your choice of several bottled sauces poured over them. Which is totally cool - I'm fine with that. It was really the ridiculously slow service. We eventually had to walk in and hunt down our waitress in order to pay. Probably a better bar than a restaurant. All this being said I might go back, though I would try the Irish Lion next door first.

I've now been here a few times with friends after making the trek to Bloomington. Fun place to grab a pint or two and chat about the day's happenings. Decent beer selection. Good fried cheese sticks. The TVs can be tough to see depending on where you are sitting. Rub the copper tables with your finger to get that nice "penny" smell!!!

Do NOT eat the chicken or fish specials here!!! Also, I used to love this place, but the service here now has gone down. Some are great, but I miss the old bartenders. Fun place for a low-key night or just to chill with some people, especially on Sundays.

Martini was okay but service is horrible. take 15 minutes to make just two martini and server refused to work but chilling with her friends.

I have eaten at Crazy Horse a few times and I have always enjoyed their food. Today I decided to have their fish and chips, I was disappointed. First of all the fish were nuggets and the coleslaw was not fresh. Also, the service was really sub par. I hope my next visit is better.

I like to go to the Crazy Horse every once in a while solely for the chicken fajita wrap. It's packed with spices and veggies and really hits the spot when I've had a busy day. The boyfriend likes the burgers. But be forewarned: there's something about the Coke that's just...off. We theorize that they spike it in the kitchen. The service can be slow--not sure if that's because of the kitchen or the college waitresses sitting around the bar gossiping. It's best to go for lunch, before the loud drinking crowd comes in.

  • WFIU P.

They have different drink specials daily, that are usually pretty good (except martinis on Thursday, they are kind of a rip off) and who doesn't enjoy sitting in the sun on their patio. Also, there bar is nice, though small, and has a pretty good atmosphere. I would suggest it as an alternative to some more college based bars. As for their food, I can't say much. They have typical bar food, wings, fries, fish and chips, which is adequate, but not spectacular. For dinner they usually have specials, which are also okay, but in my opinion over-priced for what you get. In my experience crazy hose is great for stopping by on a nice afternoon for drinks on the patio or at the bar, but not lunch or dinner. -Paige

my rating for crazy horse changes with the seasons since this place is much more enjoyable in warmer weather. best during a summer day. large bar and multiple seating areas. food is slightly above average. typically avoid the place in the evening when the students are back.

While living in Bloomington, this was my favorite bar. I liked that it wasn't usually terribly crowded (probably because it isn't in a strip of bars and more on the edge of downtown) and I liked to sit in the booth area with friends. Friday nights there are a bunch of good $4 cocktails, my favorite of which is the Key Lime Martini. It tastes exactly like key lime pie, with graham cracker crumbles on the rim and everything. As far as food, I love the Cream N Crimson (red pepper hummus and pita) and the cheese fries (lots of cheese, plus ranch dip). Other than my apartment, this is my favorite spot to drink, and I miss it now that I've moved to the Indy area.

Crazy Horse "Is what it is": a decent, centralized spot to have a beer on a Bloomington bar crawl. Food is generic sports bar food - Nothing you couldn't put together yourself from the shelves of Kroger.

Terrible food & fuuuull of rednecks. If you're looking for a drunk afternoon & a sloppy hookup, have fun. Summation - keep expectations low for both food & clientele. Better yet, stay home.

I have been to this establishment more than it deserves. I am persuaded to go here since my colleagues love it. They have decent food. Their menu changes seasonally, which is good. But what is with these big plates--they take up too much room and are just awkward in general. They claim their steaks are from the butchers block on the east side--they must get the bottom of the barrel then because the steaks are tough and poorly trimmed. My last steak was poorly cooked. I ordered it rare. It was rare; however, I could tell that the grill was not hot enough because the outside lacked color and there was a lot of grey before it got to the rare center. With that being said, it was gross. There was a lack of outside texture that should complement the inside. I enjoyed the smashed potatoes. Service is usually horrendous. I came in for brunch one weekend and our server, Christine, was obviously not just hung over, but it looked as if she was stampeded by a wildebeest of kok frat boys. I was embarrassed for her. The actual service, however, was decent. She needs to work on her people skills. Not friendly (I've had her a couple times) and the one time I overheard her and another server just completely talk down about the other servers. I hate having her as a server. I do like the newer one, I forget her name. And the dark shorter haired one is nice--always attentive. I've been here often enough to see who is in charge. What kind of manager sits at the bar and drinks during her shift and then yell at her servers that they are "fucking up." Speaking of bar, the bartenders need some serious help. The one big guy is good but he has a shitty attitude. The others don't know how to properly pour stouts. I've stopped coming here for obvious reasons. I only go when I'm dragged by colleagues.

Fun place for an older crowd. They serve pub food, which is great to pair with some drinks. Seating seems sparse and the servers seem overwhelmed at times, but the bartenders are always on top of their game.

((((covering ears)))) For a Monday night this place was WAY TOO LOUD. I felt like I had to shout at everyone just to talk--lame. They didn't have any saison :( For recommended beers the waitress was telling us to get BLUE MOON. What?!!!

The food is average but their beer selection is amazing. You have to stop here because it's a Bloomington classic. I've been coming here for ten years and I love it. One of my my favorite places to hang out. Their staff and service are great. There's always street parking nearby. Pretty lowkey and quiet during off hours, and this place is usually free of undergrads!

My old stomping grounds in Bloomington, IN . Hasn't changed much in the passing years. Same heavy wood decorations and I still love the brass par. They have a good tap beer selection and their famous "Around the World in 80 beers" contest, so plenty to choose from. They also have live music on Sundays still. What gets the place a 3 star from me is the food. It was not good. I had the breaded tenderloin(which was one of my favorites) a Indiana tradition. It was pretty terrible with cold fries. My friend had the spicy chicken bites (or something like that) . They said they couldn't put the sauce on the side for her (why I don't know) and when it came out it was drenched in the sauce and soo terribly spicy you couldn't eat it. If it wasn't one of my old favorites, it would probably get 2 stars. Please get better Crazy Horse

Great place to sit outside with many beer choices and half price bottles of wine on Sunday. Decent food but I go here for the outside seating... especially when mer ting friends. Good for a Sunday night date night.

Out of all of the bars in Bloomington, I've named Crazy Horse my bar of choice. There are reviews here that will talk about slow service, which admittedly is an issue if you are expecting quick service. But here, I like to relax. Thursday nights are the time to be there. $3 martinis, long islands, and cosmos are hard to beat. Their food is standard bar grub, and most of it is pretty darned good. The only thing I'd recommend would be to stay away from the cole slaw, which is just odd tasting and not very good. But I like this place, if anything for its less-than-crazy atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, it can get noisy and there are many TVs that are distracting, but it's definitely duller than the rumble of an airplane engine (what you experience at The Tap). Also, even though the service is slow, all of the servers have been more than cordial. I've been pretty pleased with my experience here and I'm excited to keep returning.

We chose this place because it was within walking distance from the Hilton. This is equivalent to a Chili's. It wasn't busy at all. I ordered the classic burger. Burger: wasn't too thick but wasn't too thin. Maybe could have been a bit thicker. The cheese wasn't too much, could have had more. The bacon was too crispy for my likening. Onion costs $0.50 and it came as a chunk of onion; not sliced or diced. The fries were typical thick cut fries; crispy outside, soft inside. The ranch was awesome though. A beer costs $4.75. They serve the food with a slice of cantaloupe which I found weird so I asked the story about that: apparently it's supposed to be a pallet cleanser. They had a poor guy up on stage performing for like 5 people and I kind of felt bad. Why would they schedule people to play when school is out, is beyond me. I would return if I had a coupon voucher like I did this time (my husbands connect week gave $20 vouchers for dining for the week). Otherwise, if I was craving a burger I could go down stairs in the hotel to Coaches. Nothing special to call home about.

Good value and good food! Loved the side of Mac and cheese and boneless wings! Service was slow, but it was a very crowded Friday night of parents weekend and a home football game at IU! Overall had great time visiting Bloomington!

  • Allie D.

Crazy Horse has a very old school pub kind of vibe, similar to the Alley Bar next door, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is about the ambiance that is so off-putting to me. The crowd tends to be mostly people on pub crawls and the service is usually pretty bad. With that said, it's an okay place if you are just going to pop in for drinks, but it's not a place I would like to spend my Friday night. Don't go if you are expecting decent food. Go next door to the Irish Lion instead.

  • Mindy H.

We we not here on a suggestion of my brother. He apparently likes it more than we did. It was super dark in there, and is was definitely not dark outside yet. The building is old and has a lot of character, but that didn't make up for the food. I had a tenderloin sandwich, which in Indiana, it better be good. I was really disappointed (but at the same time super hungry and still ate it!). If you aren't used to real Indiana tenderloins, you might enjoy it better than I did. My husband had a Cajun pasta dish. He did like that it actually had Cajun spice to it, but otherwise wasn't too impressed. I think if you were going for more of the bar atmosphere with a side of food, then you will enjoy this place a lot more than me.
