It's been many, many years since I chowed on Avers. Until yesterday. I added an extra vacation day to the long weekend, hopped in the car, and headed south. Two of my sisters are currently attending the IU Bloomington campus and, of course, there is Mr. Nephew as well. I foresee many a Bloomington adventure in my future. Which is how I ended up with this gourmet pizza yesterday. It was rainy and blah so we decided to order in. We ran through the usual suspects and settled on Aver's. For one sister, it was her first Aver's experience. Wanting some variety, we opted for two small pizzas. Of course, we ordered a Cream & Crimson. You just have to taste this pizza once in life. The second was the Chicken Masterpiece (aka BBQ chicken). Throw in an order of breadsticks and some soda and I'm catapulted through time to my undergrad years. I wish I could say my experience was a delectable as I remembered. The Cream & Crimson was definitely the highlight of the meal, but not the eyes-rolled-in-the-back-of-your-head experience I thought I'd have. The Chicken Masterpiece...didn't work. At one point, I pulled out a quarter inch chicken bone out of my mouth. I've decided to look at this as proof of the freshness of their ingredients. But I'm probably not going to be ordering chicken anything from Aver's anytime soon. That unfortunate experience aside, I'd say they make a pretty good pizza. Not fabulous and definitely not awful. They are right on the A-Ok target.

Avers made my favorite pizza while living in Bloomington, definitely my top delivery choice. When I visit Bloomington nowadays, I still order a couple carry-out pizzas to take back to Indy and savor for as long as possible. I have Ft. Wayne relatives who have been known to transport Avers via the 3-hr drive from Bloomington to Ft. Wayne, due to their love for this pizza. I adore the gourmet toppings, dense buttery flavorful crust and signature pies, loving both the old school flavor combos and new specialties that Aver's offers. I also frequently ordered and recommend the BBQ chicken wings; I grew to love them as much as the pizza...almost. We ordered delivery a lot....a lot a lot...and the service and delivery time always met expectations. Pizza-wise, my favorite order was a 1/2 Cream & Crimson and 1/2 Cuban Black Bean pizza. The wonderful spicy cilantro pesto on the Cuban black bean helped provide a respite from the fantastic, but overwhelming flavors of the Cream & Crimson (which comes with bacon, gorgonzola, red potato, dill, cheddar...drool). I highly recommend adding jalapeño to your Cuban black bean pizza. Other favorites included the Lambda Gyro Pi, with its tzatziki-base, and the Beckon Desire, which had a lemon pesto sauce, artichokes & more gorgonzola. The only regretful thing about Aver's is having to narrow down your options and make a final decision....someone always gets hurt. It has been difficult to find comparable pizza of Avers' caliber in Indy.

So, I can only REALLY compare Aver's to Aver's, so my decision is, I should have stayed home and ordered in. I tried Aver's Eastside lunch buffet, and I'm a little disappointed. I LOVE Aver's pizza. I order the Cream and Crimson (substitute with ricotta) and it's always hot, fantastic, and worth every penny. They'll even sell me pesto to dip the crust in, which is Out. Standing. But the buffet is neither "more" nor "for less". I'm sure this is Vegetarian Mom Heaven. Five kinds of veggie pizza, tables stacked with children under 10, and acoustic soft rock remixes floating through the air. Plus Tennis on 4 screens. I ventured into new territory: the flatbread cheese sticks, a seafood slice, un-adjusted Cream and Crimson. Big salad. But though the heat lamps were hot enough to leave a tan, the slices on my plate were cold by the time I got to the table. I was SO careful with my salad (cause I love me some salad) but something? I have no idea what. But SOMETHING was tainted with the strong flavor of pimento and that is a sin against the almighty palate. My Coke was huge--big enough not to need a refill while slowly watering itself down for my whole meal. And in the end, 2 people cost as much here for lunch as the pizza that I would have eaten, especially to taste, melty hot, snuggled in bed with no one but my man and my Netflix. And frankly THAT is what I'd rather have. So: Aver's Pizza GOOD, Aver's Pizza Buffet not worth putting pants on for.

Aver's has consistently good pizza, and it's great when I'm wanting something less dense than Mother Bear's. I haven't had any of their specialty pizzas, but their pizza is great even without the fancy toppings.

If you are drunk and hungry AND still have a high standard, get Avers. Seriously, everything from classic cheese pizza to the Lambda Gyro Pie is just... mouthwatering. BEST BREADSTICKS IN TOWN.

I fell in love with the Cream and Crimson pizza at the 1st bite. It was after a BHSN swim meet. Next time we tried the Parthenon. It was good but the cream and crimson pizza had captured my heart

This could be may favorite pizza. I love pizza, so that is saying something. The crust is one of the most unique I have ever encountered. Crunchy and dense, with a slightly sour flavor and great chewiness. Very distinctive flavor. I recommend one of the many gourmet pizzas. Many are nationally-award winning and all are terrific. My favorite is the Cream and Crimson. Roasted potatoes, alfredo sauce with cheese and dill. So yummy. I am craving one now as I write this. The Beckon Desire is another winner. I also recommend just a regular old pepperoni. The north location is the one I'm most familiar with (in the Marsh plaza). They are all about carry-out and not the biggest space, so I suggest ordering ahead. If in Bloomington, you must try this place.

Let me start by saying that if you like 'gourmet pizza' - Aver's is your kind of place. HOWEVER, I would argue that once you get to 'gourmet' it isn't pizza anymore. White sauce? Pesto sauce? Not pizza. Artichokes? Not pizza. Cheeses I haven't heard of before? Not pizza. I'm a purist! Pizza should be red sauce. Tomato, people. Mozzarella cheese! And the basic ingredients (think pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, etc. etc. - MAYBE pineapple, but that's pushing it) - and Aver's does a pretty good job with real pizza. Anything else may taste great to you, but it's not pizza. It's round and may look like a pizza but it isn't. BUT for those who like the 'non-pizza-pizza' Aver's is the best of the best in Bloomington. There are several different varieties - something for everyone. Great breadsticks as well. Aver's delivers, not a dine-in place. Though they're building one of those on the east side of town, complete with buffet.

Not only the best pizza in town, but the best breadsticks too. I don't know what they put in their dough, but it's garlicky and sweet and to die for. The menu is super simple too, so no matter how many beers you have in you, you can get a pizza to your door fast. The specialty pizzas are always killer - they are geniuses when it comes to original topping combos. They have a couple permanent specials, which are good if you're on a budget (and who isn't?) and the employees are always nice.

I found myself in Bloomington for a 3 day do-it-yourself music festival called 'chaos fest' ("CHAOS!!!"). I was drunk when I was leaving chicago, I was 50/50 hungover/drunk in Indianapolis, and painstakingly sober when the bus got to Bloomington. I felt like hell for a while, and was planning to just sleep on the streets for 3 days, but then I made contact with a lovely girl named Sonja who referred me to the area where cheap motels are located, and we ended up hanging out a few times, watching lifetime movies, and doing a bit of drinking at the america's best value inn. Sunday showed up after a while, and I hadn't been eating so much, so I asked sonja what the best pizza place in bloomington was, and she told me about Aver's. I was skeptical at first, but I was hungry, so I walked over to this place. When I got there, these two guys were there, and one of them asked me how they could help me. I stared at the menu for a few minutes, and got a large 'veggie revival'. I then sat on a bench and watched the other guy pile all of the toppings on it before putting it into the oven. While it cooked I looked around and imagined what it would be like to eat all of the pizzas that were in their pizza storage area that's off to the side. I guess they offer ready-to-pickup pizzas or something? I can't tell for sure, but it seems possible. Then they gave me the pizza and I walked back to america's best value inn where I ate the whole pizza in like an hour and felt like a disgusting person for eating all the pizza so quickly. While I was leaving the restaurant I passed the guy who made the pizza. I told him that I would write a yelp review if it was good. He told me that it was the best pizza in bloomington, and I told him "that's what I heard". Later that night I came back to the motel and ordered another one of the same pizza, but could only eat half of it. I was a little drunk and had over-estimated my appetite. I left it for the cleaning ladies at the motel when I left at 4am. The pizza was really good. Slightly buttery crust, great ingredients, great texture. Some of the best pizza I ate in 2013. I'll be sure to go back here if I ever find myself back in Bloomington.

Aver's pizza is one of my favorite B-town pizza places. They have a good selection of vegetarian and meat-loving specialty pizza you can choose from, which is the most difficult task for me. Since this store so small, so I'll recommend calling in for your order or place your order with them and go to Marsh, which is next boor, and come back and pick up your pizza.

Great pizza! Good prices for so much food. I've only had their pepperoni, and it was great. Next time I'll ask it to be well-done. Soooooo many breeeeadstiiiicks! Can't wait to try their specialty pizzas sometime.

This is my favorite pizza place ever ( and has been so for four years ) and that includes 2 years of living outside of Bloomington before moving back ... in the meantime I've lived several places on the West coast, and nothing matched Avers. Unlike some of the other reviews, I've never had anyone be rude to me. Once I forgot to leave a CC number for my order, and they remembered that I usually used a CC, called me back to see if I wanted to that time as well. I imagine they remembered me because I usually order custom pizzas / variants on their specialties ... which they've always gotten right ( though they forget the 'extra sauce' sometimes ... the nerve! ). The order taker once wrote down a change wrong, and I got a call to confirm ... they make the effort. If anyone's actually read this far, I'd recommend the Beckon Desire, Cream&Crimson, regular pepperoni, and breadsticks with cool garlic sauce. I'd agree the breadsticks are a bit plain on their own, but with the sauce they're the best things ever. The price is really very reasonable. I think people in a college town get used to $5 pizzas so think a $7 one is expensive ... compared by quality to anywhere else, Avers is remarkably cheap even including delivery. Go get some delivered!

Aver's Pizza has three locations in Bloomington, Indiana; the Bloomington North and South locations offer carry out and delivery and their Bloomington East store also has a dining room. I ordered the Crazy Aver's Deal from their Bloomington North restaurant, and it included a twelve-inch medium one-topping pizza, breadsticks with one dipping sauce, two drinks, and two chocolate chip cookies all for only $11.99 before tax. I found my pepperoni pizza to be much better than you would expect a pizza that is part of a package that offers so much food at so little cost to be. Plus, it was a decently thick pizza, so it was fairly filling. Also, this deal comes with a good amount of breadsticks that are nice and fluffy. I was certainly pleased with my Aver's Pizza experience but still definitely recommend Mother Bear's Pizza as the best in Bloomington.

Incredibly overrated. Some people love it, and I understand why, but it's never done anything for me and I've been having it on and off for 15 years. Not a huge fan of their sauce or their cheese. Their artisan pizzas are cool from a conceptual level, but that doesn't make them great to eat.

I'm totally in love with the Cuban Black Bean Pizza with chicken!! It's the BEST!! And, I greatly appreciate the fact that they deliver to my side of town (there aren't many restaurants that will go past 37).

To date, this is my all-time favorite pizza place. Pizza, not breadsticks, mind you ;) Though the breadsticks aren't bad. I have not ordered a "regular" pizza here (cheese, pepperoni, etc.), so I cannot attest to the taste of those. I am forever a fan of the Cream & Crimson and the Beckon Desire. Both have Gorgonzola cheese, so if you like Gorgonzola, you should try this place. I'm not sure which I like better, they are both wonderful. They have several sauce choices and some unique ingredients, so if you are looking for something a little different, it is worth a try. I have only ordered from this location, and perhaps always will, as it is on the way into town, so when I stop by Bloomington I can grab a pizza on my way in or on my way home. I believe they also have a take-and-bake option, which can be useful. Always good service. Drinks come in reusable plastic cups, and I always order the loganberry (red juice) just because it surprised me the first time I asked for drink options. I think they carry Coke products. Crazy Aver's Deal is great if you want to split a pizza and breadsticks meal with a friend.

This pizza place has some of the best and most unique pizza I have ever had. I have only ordered the Beckon Desire and Cream and Crimson signature pizza's, but based off these two if I ever crave a pizza I will go here. Both of the those pizza's have won awards in the past. Aver's also has the two other signature pizza choices as well as regular pizzas that you can order. I would say the price is reasonable considering this isn't a national chain like PIzza Hut. The service at Aver's is pretty good. I have only had one problem when I ordered over the phone and when I came to pick up the pizza they had forgotten to make the order. They made up for the mistake though by giving me the pizza at the next larger size. If I ordered an 8 inch pizza it normally takes about 15 minutes for it to be ready.

A good pizza place, relative to the rest of the pizza places in Bloomington at least. The "Crazy Aver's Deal" is a bargain; you get pizza, breaksticks, and two drinks for about ten bucks. . . it makes a full meal for two people. I'd recommend the BBQ chicken pizza as well as my own creation: Alfredo sauce, artichoke hearts, and bacon. YUM.

Don't just order a plain pizza; you'll be annoyed that it is, well, just a plain pizza. Instead, order a specialty pie, and be amazed. Cuban Black Bean and Cream&Crimson are two of the most amazing pizzas I've ever had.

One of the 3 best pizzaria's in Bloomington. A little pricey, but not too much so.

I don't know what the haters out there are thinking but Aver's has the absolute best pizza in Bloomington, hands down! I've only had delivery, so I can't speak for the in-house experience. But I discovered this gem freshman year at IU, when a friend ordered a sausage pizza to the dorms after a long night out on the town for our huge group. When we got the pizza, it wasn't what we ordered, but we were drunk so who cared at that point... We gobbled it up and it was the most delicious thing we all had ever tasted. What was that glorious pizza, you ask? None other than the Cream and Crimson! Since that night, I've ordered many times from Aver's (sober and a little intoxicated sometimes, too) and it is always worth the decision. I've never been let down by this amazing little pizza place. The Cream and Crimson is probably the greatest concoction ever invented and I will most likely eat that pizza as my last meal in Bloomington after I graduate and move away from town. Do yourself a favor and skip that nasty Pizza Express (or Pizza X, for all you new kids), Rockits, or Mad Mushroom and dig into a real pizza from Aver's! It's gourmet pizza without the gourmet price and you always get fresh food without all the grease and regret of normal late-night pizza.

I've posted the following review on Google Maps before and I'm posting it again: I live downtown on Kirkwood and my pizza came at least an hour later, about an hour and 15 minutes after I called in fact, even though I was told it would only be a 45 minutes wait. I called Avers back to address this issue and all I was told by the "manager" was that he or "they, couldn't do anything about it", and that they usually "don't do anything" about late pizzas. My friends and I had been regulars and even though I didn't have bad experiences like this as often, they commented that Avers had been rude towards their similar concerns various times before and have charged one of my friends' credit card even after it has been declined, causing her bank account to go into a negative, all without telling her a thing until she called about her pizza not being delivered. Overall, whether our cases are an anomaly or not, it has been a very disappointing experience, especially since we were not compensated for a pizza that either was delivered late or made late. We have proof that's the sticker on the pizza box and we compared the time. Not planning to support Avers any further. allmenus.com/in/blooming… allmenus.com/in/blooming…

I mean, I always order the same thing - I can't help it - but it's just soooo good! I never don't order a jalapeno and pineapple pizza from Aver's, but I've heard other pizzas (Cream & Crimson, for example) are also wonderful. But back to my Aver's jalapeno/pineapple pizza - it's my favorite pizza of all time. They do it just right. And then I order breadsticks with cheese and ranch sauce. Yum/fattening. Oh, and they've never screwed up my order, and the people working there are always pleasant. I need to broaden my horizons and order some of their many creative pizzas! So do you!

Aver's is a classic, and consistently produces great pizza. A Chicken Masterpiece pie is truly amazing.
