Excellent food. Anything made with their corn tortillas is amazing. I think they're homemade -- they taste like it, anyway. The steak or chcken tacos are my favorite. And the refried beans are the best I've ever had. Good breakfasts.

Not open on Sunday and well I typically want tacos on a Sunday so 3 stars...otherwise good food. They give you free carrots which is awesome cuz they are the next best thing to LaLos

Westmont is a suburb which has more than a few taquerias in its sprawling borders. I've been to most of them, and Taco Express seems pretty pedestrian to me. My chief complaint is the price - higher than warranted for the city and quality of food, which was fine, but unexceptional. Drive another few blocks north and west to Taco Grill and Salsa Bar on Ogden, and you'll be better off, in my opinion. Still, the location of this restaurant is fantastic for commuters, being directly across the street from the Westmont BNSF Metra route. This makes it a great convenience for people who want a quick bite before heading into Chicago. This is much better than fast food Mexican, but when you live around here, you have to develop standards due to the multitude of choices. I say keep looking.

A great place that shoukd be franchised and more common than Taco Bell. The food was quick and reasonably priced.

Stopped in, got my burrito, got out. As a Los Angeles native, I've had my fair share of good burritos. This burrito was on par with many of those establishments', as the burrito had a great balance of lettuce v.s. meat. Their red sauce also provides a nice kick, and the tortilla was grilled to a desirable crisp instead of places that just turn it slightly brown. The service was very quick, and there was plenty of space to sit down if you wanted to. I also think it's a good sign when I can't interpret some/most of your menu because it is in Spanish.

Solid, fast Mexican food - good hours, though I wish they were open a little earlier for breakfast since I take the train across the street. Nothing fancy, but decent comfort food that doesn't take long to get.

If ass is what you long for then youve come to the right spot. I visited with a co-worker since it was down the street from the job. I should have just stopped at a gas station. What type of taquieria don't give you chips & salsa when you dine in? The guy who rang up the order tried to make us share 4 tortillas with the ala mexicana dish wtf!!! I really had to check this dude about trying to.freaking get over on us. Never will i even think about stopping here again. The food was a hopeless 5 out of 10, I live in Chicago and this food tasted like dog food compared to all ive had in the city. Don't waste your hard earned cash on this place!!!!

What a huge let down! Between the reviews, location, and storefront, I was expecting a "go-to" taco stand with a once a week reason to stop in Westmont. Way off on that thought. The place was dirty, service was geared to only Spanish speaking clients, and I've scene better value from our IRS. I would not touch this place again with your taste buds. If you find yourself in Westmont, skip this place and move up the street to Bub's or something.

I love tacos and mexican food in general. Decided to give this place a try based on good reviews. I was not impressed. The tacos were OK at best. Might as well have ate at taco bell. The service was horrible. Most taco restaurants give you chips with your meal if you eat in. This place didn't.

  • J C.

Always as expected with good flavor and fresh ingredients. We always do take out as the ambience is not that inviting for eating in. I have been going here for about 5 years and while the food is not fancy it is consistent.

Best Mexican food. Ever. I love Taco Express! I grew up in Westmont and it's definitely a staple of our fine village's cuisine. This place has been here my entire life and it has been serving quality Mexican food since it opened; it's also an amazing alternative to Taco Bell (not that Taco Express even compares but you know what I mean). Easy stop in downtown Westmont for those getting off the train on their way home or a quick 10 minute walk from most people's homes. They have dine in which is great or you can get pretty quick take out. The nachos are absolutely delicious as well as their tacos and salsa. They make everything in the shop and everything is delicious. I cannot imagine that anyone in Westmont does not know Taco Express but, if you don't, go now!

The Taco Express is a Mexican fast food spot right on Burlington and Cass, opposite the train station. It serves pretty decent Mexican dinner plates of fast food calibre. I recommend it, and I patronize it from time to time. The menu is fairly extensive for a short order restaurant. There are maybe a dozen dinner plates in addition to the piece by piece orders of tacos and burritos. There are also breakfast plates, presumably to serve the morning commuter crowd. For lunch and dinner, one or two of the plates goes on special (a lower price). Food quality is not bad, about what one would expect, or maybe a bit better than that. Ambiance is rudimentary. The interior dining area is quite large. There are a very few small tables outside on the patio. Taco Express is built on a small rise, so the patio is a pleasant place to eat. The adjacent small park, which gets more shade, is also nice. Service is very good. Taco Express is family owned. This store is well liked and supported by the local community. In summary, Taco Express is a good taco calibre restaurant. The food is good, service is good, and ambiance is basic, although outdoor seating options are nice. I recommend Taco Express.

Prices appear to have gone up. Quality is still good. I have had a problem with one of the persons who takes the orders. Maybe he is why the prices didn't really add up on my last visit....... The price was close but it seemed high. I'm a math teacher so I'm good at estimating and the charge I paid leemed to be about $0.75 - $1 high. The guy has been arguing with me about how much sauce I ask for for a while so maybe he is charging me extra? I like my sauce so stop arguing with me. Quality and taste is still awesome. prices have gone up though. I will continue to be a 2X weekly customer.

Tacos! This place is right by the train tracks, but there are some "secret" pathways to avoid the crap traffic on Cass. Any Mexican join that serves the little peppers/carrots/onions on the side is ok in my book. The last time I was here I got the fish tacos. They were tasty. Grilled, not too dry and nicely wrapped in some corn tortillas. The only downside is the food can take a little bit of time to come out. If you come with 5 people and all order separately, there is a good chance the first guy will chow down his grub before the 5th guy even gets his plate. But that's not a big deal, it's just how it goes at places like this. As others have mentioned, the decor is nothing special, but there are serviceable tables and chairs. There is some outdoor seating which looks nice, but I've never sat out there. Overall it's a quick sit down place with pretty good food. There are a lot of different combos so you can pick what you like.

I ordered the enchiladas with steak lunch special. It wasn't anything special. I've had better in the city. The sauce they used tasted like it was from a can. It tasted kind of bland. The tortilla chips they had were hard and tasted as if it had been under the light too long. Not impressed.

  • Sarah R.

Definitely not my favorite Mexican food, but it's okay and much closer to my house then our favorite. They offer delivery, but we haven't used that yet.

  • Jean K.

Let me start out by saying...that I absolutely LOVE Mexican food. Living out in the burbs does not give you many options for some great spicy Mex food...so we find ourselves traveling into the city quite often if we want a good taco/burrito dinner. We tried this place because of two reasons...(1.) We were in the area and (2.) Using our fellow Yelpers reviews...we thought it would be a worth while find. Not so. This place is worthy of mention because it would make a great late night out after the bar stop on your way home. Unfortunately for them, they are too expensive - $9.00 for chopped up little bits of steak? Um...I think not. Their guac was pretty good...but nothing to rave about. I would only recommend this place if you're in the area and nothing else is open. It's a decent grease pit - little hole in the wall kinda place - I'll give it that...but there is much much better Mexican food to find almost anywhere else.

Taco Express, oh how I love thee. Chicken tacos on corn tortillas. Salsa verde. Need I say more? Well, if you've never been here I suppose that I probably should say more. Suffice it to say that Taco Express is the BEST carry out/casual dining Mexican restaurant I've ever had. Everything is fresh, fast, and delicious. It's all your standard fare: tacos, burritos, tortas, etc. Dinner plates are commendable in size and the horchata is delicious! They even serve breakfast if you're craving the huevos rancheros. It may not look like much on the inside (the best places never do) and you may leave smelling like the short order cook, but it's well worth a trip. Take the Metra line out to Westmont and you'll fall out of the train and onto the doorstep of this place.

Very good food, I am from S. Calif. although it is not Baja style, I always enjoy my meals when I go there. The tacos are very good and my sister enjoys their chili relleno. Very affordable and fresh.

  • J H L.

Definitely the best taco place in the area. We actually prefer the second location near 65th and Cass, but they have the same menu. Food is very authentic, and we've never had anything bad there. Even the chicken soup is outstanding.

  • kristen s.

I LOVE taco express. it's right next to the train station, making it a great place to grab a taco and head downtown. i used to frequent it when i took the train downtown for work. i'm a sucker for their mexican rice and horchata, and the burritos are so big i usually have to save half of it for later. service is fast, and you can't beat the price. i would prefer to go here rather than a taco bell any day.

    (5)
  • Theresa C.

I grew up going to the news stand and taco time, they're both excellent. I don't even usually like tostadas, but i do from here. The service is fast and friendly. I love this food, it's the best Mexican in Westmont.

    (5)
  • Caitlin A.

If you are looking for cheap, delicious, authentic Mexican food, then this is the place to go. I have been going here for over 15 years and it has never disappointed. The food is consistent and absolutely delicious. Any excuse I can make to get to Westmont always involves stopping here for a chile relleno taco and a chicken toastada. You must stop by if you are in the area... You will not regret it!

  • Sarah T.

This place... is so authentic! Only the one cashier spoke English. Every plate that passed my eyes looked amazing. (And I really don't like Mexican food)

    (4)
  • Ashley W.

Best. Nachos. Ever. That's all! Oh, and their quesadillas are pretty good too! Food is fresh, and a great value. Their guacamole is pretty decent too. It's your typical hole-in-the-wall suburban Mexican place, but everything I've had from there has been tasty!

    (4)
  • james b.

I like my Mexican food simple and fresh. Tacos, burritos, and tostadas. This isn't Rick Bayless stuff, but if you're in the mood for tacos I haven't found a better place in the area. The tortillas are fresh and soft, and the fillings are generous and tasty. Amp it up with salsa if you like. Come here at lunchtime and you'll see a mostly Mexican clientele, which to me authenticates the place. My only complaint is that the prices seem to have crept up lately, altho it's still a good value.

    (5)
  • Izzy K.

I love the food here!! I always get the Chile Relleno burrito junior, I love the hot sauce. I will be eating here again soon!!

Horrible!!! Would not recommend to my dog if I had one. Who doesn't put tomatoes on their tacos. I have definitely had better.

  • Alonso G.

What happened to the food quality here. When we were first introduced, we couldn't get yenough of this place. Now, the flavor we first fell in love with is gone. The one on Fairview is still good though. I would give the one on Fairview 5 stars.

  • Benjie H.

Probably one of my favorite place to get some tacos. They make them pretty good here.

    (4)
  • Carri H.

The guac is damn fine, and I am in love with the chicken soup. Everything else I've tried has been pretty run of the mill.

  • Jack H.

This place is a Westmont Staple! That being said, I really don't know why it's so well liked among the locals. I've only been here a few times, and it isn't THAT good. The location is nice, but if you can, you're better off driving to Los.

    (3)
  • Ellen H.

Great tacos, even better guac. One of my favorites.

    (4)
  • Andrew S.

Awful, I'm charged a different price every time for the same thing, the girls don't know how to use the register, overpriced $10.xx for some bland tamales and a cup of water last time, unless you're stuck waiting for the train drive on, anyplace else. It's also greasy and smelly inside. Total dump, they need a subway or something half way decent in downtown WM.

    (1)
  • Will O.

The worst taco I ever had..I guess people around this area don't know any better. Never will eat here again

    (1)
  • Guy K.

The food was very low quality and it wasn't all that tasty, even given the low prices. I love hole in the wall Mexican restaurants but this place did not deliver.

    (1)
  • Mark K.

Not bad. A Lil slow on service but good. Had the lengua torta. Pretty tastey. I like the fact I can self serve carrots and peppers. Sometimes I just like the carrots. I will be going back.

  • Natasha N.

I used to love this place. Lately, I've been DISAPPOINTED numerous times. My chicken taco still had bones (yep, bones is plural) in it. I could have cracked my tooth. The beef tasted like the fish and my rice was crunchy. Go to the other taco express off of 63rd. That place is so much cleaner and has better tasting food.

    (1)
  • Sunny D.

Good Mexican food, not quite as good as Taco Grill on ogden but definitely a step above places like Los Tapatios and El Burrito Loco. I usually get a few tacos, with the steak taco being my favorite and the chicken not being any better meat quality than what taco bell offers. On the other hand I highly recommend trying their chile relleno tacos. It's very hard to find Chile rellenos at a non sitdown Mexican restaurant and Taco Express has some of the best; they are absolutely huge. Also, try their Mexican corn (Corn on cob, butter, chile pepper, lime juice, mexican crumble cheese) it is so good but probably so unhealthy.

    (3)
  • Brenda E.

Taco Express was recommended to us while we waited for our vehicle repair to be completed. Um........it was not tasty or authentic. I agree with Will O. I guess people in that area don't know any better. I would never vote them #1 in the area, as the banner on the wall suggested.

  • Kavita B.

Taco express is quite popular for its authentic mexican food, that made me to visit this place. The lady who took our order was very helpful and humble. We ordered cheese quesadilla, hard chicken tacos. The service was quick I must say. I didn't liked the tacos,it was not at all authentic or tasty. Cheese quesadilla was gud,I would not recommend this place for authentic Mexican food but it's a nice place to have meals at reasonable price.

  • Christina B.

Sure, I can appreciate the close proximity to the train station and how quickly the food is made and yes, it is rather cheap for the Chicago suburbs area. It does not, however, give the manager the right to treat people like crap. Not only did they "forget" our order and make us wait 35 minutes for our food, but we were offered no apology or explanation. There were two other people in the restaurant and absolutely no reason why we waited as long as we did. My quesadillas were downright awful. The "fajita steak" was old, and had absolutely been sitting for quite sometime as it was impossible to chew and tasted like beef jerky. My husband's "burrito" has four slivers of "fajita steak" in it. It was mainly a tortilla stuffed with lettuce. No tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, rice or beans. It was definitely the worst burrito he's ever had or I've ever tasted. Mediocre. You get "nickel and dimed" at this place. They charge .70$ for sour cream, and do you want tomatoes on your Mexican food? 1$. Don't bother asking for a refill. He'll wait until he is good and ready to give it to you. Crappy, disgusting food and a horrible staff. Will not return.

I haven't ordered anything but the tacos here, and I likely never will after trying their el pastor tacos. Absolutely gold, Jerry! Gold!

Me and my family wanted to try a new place for Mexican food. When we walked in, we were excited about the variety of foods offered on the menu. We have a baby and we were going to put him in their high chair. Me and my wife noticed the high chair was filthy. So we cleaned it with some baby wipes. After this we ordered our food. I ordered the 4 quesida, my wife ordered the chille rellano dinner and my mother in law ordered a torta with ham and cheese. My quesidas were steak meat and the meat was very dry. My wife's chills rellano was soaked in grease. She could only eat the chille and cheese. My mother in laws torta was microwaved and tasted very old. We were all very disappointed and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I am not from around here but stopped by for a quick lunch while passing through. I ordered a Jr. Steak Burrito plate. Overall taste was good but when I say that the Jr. burrito was WELL over half filled with lettuce I am not exaggerating. For paying pennies under $10.00 (without a drink and not including tip) I expected more. The side of rice and beans was also skimpy but authentic. Again the taste and green salsa was good but I left a little hungry and regretting that I hadn't just gone to a Chipotle I passed where I'd have spent 6-7 bucks (with no drink) for more food. No complaints about staff and the place seems to be a local hot spot.

  • Jeremy M.

I came in here with an open mind thinking I would get some good Mexican food. Boy was I surprised. They need to take a lot more pride in their food. They also had misplaced my order slip and two other people that came in behind me got their food and left before they even started mine. I suggest passing this place by if y'all are ever in this area. The girl that took my order originally was nice and very pleasant to place my order with but the guy that took her place was a complete jerk. He treated me like I was an inconvenience. What a shotty place. If I could I would not give this place any stars whatsoever. They are not worth it.

The Taco Express signage sticks out like a gringo at an amateur football (soccer) match, even when you're traveling 40mph on the Metra passed downtown Westmont. The colors and patterns strike your curiosity. Is it like Taco Bell? Is it the best taco joint around town? It being Taco Tuesdays, and passing this place everyday, we had to try it. It's not the cleanest place to have a taco, but it's not the dirtiest either. But cleanliness is not the best indicator of food quality. Walk in and to the right is a wall where a number of different plates are pictures, the options are plentiful. Of course I can only speak to the tacos. I went with a taco dinner (3 tacos) with al pastor, lengua, and fish (pescado?) always with corn tortillas and cilantro y onions. We also got a chicken and beef taco. All were pretty satisfying. The fish was simply grilled, nothing fancy. Lengua was prepared a bit different than other places I've had. The cut chopped not cubed and bigger pieces. Al pastor was right, moist with good seasoning and juices. Chicken was also more like pulled chicken rather than grilled and chopped. A nice surprise. Finally the beef tacos, don't get the beef tacos. The staff was pretty delightful, happy lady taking our order. The cooks joke around the whole time. The one disappointment I will note is no free chips and salsa. Fairly expensive in comparison to, well, free. Order with a smile!

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
