Awesome new breakfast place. Food is absolutely delicious. I had the banana crepes (sooooo good) and the eggs with toast. The crepes were definitely the star as I couldn't stop eating them. I'd definitely come here again!

I am very impressed with Alexander's. Their menu has a huge variety of interesting and tasty sounding dishes. We tried some breakfast dishes (I had a breakfast burrito my better half had a skillet) and we were quite surprised at the quality of the food as well as the presentation of the dishes. We also could not help but notice the myriad of delicious looking and smelling dishes that passed us while we were seated. Update: Went back again not too long ago and had the absolute BEST skirt skillet I've ever had in my life (and I've had a few).

This place was pretty good - we usually go to Annie's pancake house but we wanted to try something different this time. The decor is really cute with bright colored walls and lot of light from the big windows. Our waitress was great and attentive - keeping up with the sunday morning rush in all smiles. I had the banana crepes ($9.95), my fiancee ordered a skillet (about $10), and my friend ordered some sort of omelet (about $10). All were delicious and decent (but not huge) sized portions. My brunch potatoes never came out so I'm not sure how those were but the waitress did explain they were having trouble cooking and she didn't want to serve them non-crispy - so I can't blame them for just taking them off my bill. (they did look delicious on other people's plates when we walked in though - you should try them.) They don't have a lot of just the normal diner foods we were craving but we found some more specialized options that were delicious.. My crepes were very decadent with rum infused syrup, walnuts, mascarpone cheese, and strawberries. I really came in just wanting a simple skillet of meat, cheese, egg, and veggie and I couldn't find one but the crepes hit the spot regardless. I think they were $9.95 for 2 rolled crepes. My only Don't is: Don't order the soda. They don't have a soda machine so you get a 20 oz. plastic bottle but I don't think they sell the soda very often because the sprite tasted as if it had been stored for a long period of time in changing temps and had lost its flavor.

I just love Alexander's restaurant. It is a breath of fresh air compared to other ones in the neighborhood of Skokie. The service is good, the food is great, and sure you pay little more but get good quality food. You get what you pay for. I give it 5 stars all the time. Great homemade high quality real food brunch is amazing. Had the Best roasted root vegetable crepes, creamy polenta, turkey sausages and eggs OMG it rocked wife had poached pears French toast, very yummy. Yes yummy works well here.

Alexander's is by far the best brunch place in the Skokie area! They have great french toast, great omelettes, and great Mexican style breakfast specialties, like the breakfast chiles rellenos. They also have lots of healthier and vegetarian friendly breakfast options. My husband and I have been here quite a few times and have never been disappointed!

So. Good. It seems a little pricey but it's well worth your money. This place has super friendly service and they really treat your food like food should be treated. I got the Tuscany skillet and my boyfriend got pancakes (we shared half and half). The skillet was amazing! I'm a big, BIG steak person and every piece of the skirt steak was cooked to perfection. It was chewy and juicy and full of flavorful. Very nice. The pancakes were also extremely fluffy. I don't use the word fluffy lightly. And like everyone else, I loved the decor! They have bright colors on the walls and a giant mural of fruit. Everything here, especially the food, makes you smile.

Went here for lunch with sis on Columbus Day. I loved my breakfast. It was the recommended special (Chili rellenos, I think). It had fluffy eggs on top of spicy sausage with a tortilla and rice. It was a party in my mouth! I also took a potato bite off of sis's plate. It was tender and spicy too. The waitress was attentive and made sure sis's ice tea was replenished. We also stayed to chat a while and no one rushed up out.

The place is nicely decorated. The food is pretty good. Well, I don't know about all the food, but what I ordered was good (Smoked Salmon Benedict). The service is not so good. The staffs aren't friendly and kind of rude. One of them came out to ask if I needed anything with her phone in her hands. My server wasn't smiling at all. Just bad service.

Their lentil soup made me wanna go home and make some. Delicious, clean, fresh, not salty, which I'm picky about. The Santa Fe wrap was so fresh, clean, amazing. Perfect sweetness of mango with crunch of Romaine lettuce (no wilted head lettuce here, thank you), perfect crisp on the outside of the chicken is noted and a nice touch further showing attention and care. Superb.

I've been here a few times. They don't have the best omlettes, so I tried other items. Their skillets are not that bad. The problem with this place is their portions are not generous. As a matter of fact they charge you for every little add on u want even if it's just cheese. They will not even try to accommodate any requests. Funny their menu doesn't have no substitute for certain items and when you ask "can I substitute" their answer is no. They nickel and dime their customers instead of making them returning customers, they've lost us as customers because they would rather make a quick 1.25 or 2.00 for extra cheese instead of making customer happy and not charging for small things that will not make them.

This is an update on my last review in April. The service was so much better. One of the wait staff checked up on us a couple of times if we needed anything and if we're doing ok. I am glad that the owners took the reviews here seriously. They just need to improve on getting the food to the table quicker but overall, the food was great.

Downtown Skokie seems to revamping its look and it seems as if there are a lot of eateries opening about. We were meeting a good friend for some breakfast/brunch, so to keep it close by, I chose Alexander's to try out. There were plenty of side street parking (free), and finding the restaurant wasn't all that bad (off of Oakton). We were seated quickly, and I chose the booth by the window. We ordered the Breakfast Chile Relleno (roasted poblano peppers stuffed with scrambled eggs, avocado slices, chorizo, Chihuahua cheese, sweet corn, topped with adobo sauce and came with Baja rice, a folded tortilla, and fried plantains), Lemon Meringue French Toast (three grilled brioche French toast layered with lemon curd, strawberry coullis, and lemon meringue), a Brunch skillet (cubed roasted butternut squash, pork belly, poblano peppers, goat cheese, Yukon Gold hash with two eggs, topped with creme fraiche and salsa verde (on the side for me)), and Pumpkin Hotcakes (one of their specials). Even though the Breakfast Chile Relleno was on the 'recommended' list, I wasn't much of a fan as I found it a bit bland. I did enjoy the Lemon Meringue French Toast as it was supposed to come with 2, but since we had a party of 3, the chef actually put a total of 3 slices, which I thought was quite generous! It was cooked perfectly and I loved the nice gloopy topping of the lemon curd and the creme fraiche - it was not too sweet nor was it too dull. I also really enjoyed the skillet as it was nice and crispy, and the mixture of the butternut squash, the crispy pork belly slices, and the goat cheese combo was quite tasty and savory - I don't care for salsa verde, so I had that on the side and did not use it. The Pumpkin Hotcakes were solid, topped with pecan cream cheese, and that was just to be all in the Fall festive-ish mood. Our server was quite nice and pleasant, and she checked up on us regularly. Our water was always refilled, too, so that was awesome. The restaurant itself is cute and quaint, and very bright and cheery with the yellow and orange colors. I thought that this was one of the better breakfast places I've been to a while, so I was pretty happy to have checked this place out before I left town. I love supporting local businesses in my town. I love this place. The atmosphere is smooth with beautiful big band/jazz tunes playing in the background. Bright, cheery decor. The food is amazing and so well prepared. The owner gave my friend and I a cinnamon roll on the house. Hot and fresh. What a great place to have a nice, classy breakfast within walking distance of my house.

Alexander's has very tasty options. My favorite is the bacon asparagus breakfast sandwich. If food was the only factor, I would give it five stars. Unfortunately all three times I've been here the service has been very slow; they never seem to have more than one waitstaff, and they are not friendly. I've seen similar reviews and can't begin to understand why the owner doesn't take the advice of reviewers and add more staff who are knowledgeable and friendly.

My Boyfriend's darling Grandmother lives near here... She is technically the mother of his Stepmother but I worship her and refer to her as "Grandma Bee". She is the coolest. I want to be Bee when I grow up. Bee used to own a bakery/confectionary/catering company before retiring and thus, knows good food. Bee, though retired, still owns multiple industrial deep-freezers packed with far more goodies that Willy Wonka's chocolate factory can compete with. Are you feeling like Cheesecake? BonBons? A loaf of anything? Bee has a several dozen each. Holidays at Bee's are better than Disneyland for me. She has a remarkable ability. I say this so you understand how much the food and the wonderful service at Alexanders mean to Bee- the servers are sweet, efficient and incredibly personable. The owner is charming and will come by to flirt with Bee (She's MINE!). The food was even better. I'm not even sure how that is possible but yes, it is. I had crab cakes bennedict that were incredible. It with deepest social-media apologies, will be my forever regret that I did not take a picture of the magnificent, sculptural crab cake plate prior to devouring it... but understand Bee does not like smartphones at the table, it is impolite. So now you have to come here, order the crab cakes and admire them in real-time and taste! Go and check out this unexpected, teeny tiny corner diner that is an extraordinary experience in disguise for breakfast or brunch... and know that everything on the menu is gorgeous, delicious, satisfying, Bee-approved and therefore extraordinary. It is her favorite. And if you see a girl with dark hair and bangs debating creative cake how-to with a very elegant and tiny woman- that is us, say hello.

Hello all, Though it was 10:00 am on a Sunday and we were seated where the maitre d' put us, in the middle of the center aisle by the front door with all dining room staff passing us like salmon around a rock in a river, we left Alexander's after about twenty minutes having received very little attention, only a glass of water and a menu apiece. Not even an offer of coffee. So, while I can't judge the quality of the food, the offerings seemed either intriguing or pretentious and high priced for a little diner in Skokie, full of poblano peppers, cream cheese and au courant ingredients, Apparently many other Yelpers have enjoyed their meals. We might have, too. I really don't like to flag down servers and managers, though. We all know why we're there and they really ought to behave accordingly. Something odd: there were no cheerful diner sounds here, clinkings and tinklings and crashes. Just abhorrently loud and shrilly screaming children, determined seriousness and suppressed havoc mixed with smooth jazz muzak. Noise, noise, noise, noise, noise. As we stood up, donned our coats and walked out, the fancily dressed manager/owner/maitre d' guy at the register not five feet away really should have said something, right? Maybe asked us why. Not a word, though. He also did not assist his very busy staff in any way, behaviour for which I have difficulty respecting him. The cosmetics are warm, with fresh sunshiny colours and wall art, a pleasant remodel and update of the well worn and much beloved diner that formerly inhabited the location, Pat's Place. This place didn't take our order after 10 min. Laughed at us after we inquired about where our simple eggs and sandwich were. We left after waiting a half hour for our food during a non busy week day lunch hour. Ridiculous service. Avoid.

Overall an OK experience. I would probably rate closer to 2 1/2 stars if possible. I got the Heavenly Multigrain Pancakes and my boyfriend got the Tuscany skillet. Both OK, I don't know that I would ever get either of them again. There was something that tasted old/funny in his skillet, like the onions or tomatoes or something. Service was also OK, not great and not bad. A bit overpriced for what we got. I *hate* to compare them to Pat's Place (the restaurant that previously occupied this location), but it was much cheaper and had excellent service. Normally, you would expect better service at a more expensive place than a lower priced restaurant, but that was not the case in this situation. Would we come back? Maybe to try some of the other items on the menu. Maybe.

What does it take to get food cooked right, and served HOT to your table? Our grown up family of five went to breakfast yesterday and not one of was served HOT food. Now, for me...that is a deal breaker, but in this case the staff had two chances to get it right. First chance was when it originally came to the table with the egg cooked wrong, sorry if you like over easy, being served broken over hard is not acceptable. At that point I asked for the meal to be served hot. The waitress, who truly could not have cared less, looked at all of us, and said the food was just cooked. Four of the five who were just served said their food was not hot. Again she could not have cared less. When she returned with my egg cooked correctly it was over the same now cold food. I gave this place two stars! one because the coffee was good! the other is because my Mom enjoys coming. As for me.....never again.... P.s. About the egg, some line cook sent the egg out cooked wrong on the premise that most people of buffalo herder mentality will never complain, that is another reason NEVER to go to this restaurant...

Went to Alexander's for Sunday brunch. We were able to get a table right away at 9am but it got crowded quickly thereafter. Service was friendly but a bit disorganized. We were brought another tables food accidentally. Seemed to have some mixups with the tickets at the pass. Once we did get our food, I'd say it was above average. I had the chef's omelette. It was pretty good. Wife liked her omelette as well which she picked the ingredients for. Grandparents got the sweet potato and Tuscany skillets and liked their food. Wife's mom got a breakfast burrito which she said was not very seasoned. All the meals come with potatoes which aren't hash browns rather home styler potatoes. I wish they had been more crisp. We would consider coming back for brunch.

My favorite place to eat in Skokie. If you like breakfast, you'll love this place. I've eaten at Alexander's five times, and I have not been disappointed. They have a fall special - pumpkin pancakes! If you have not tried them, I highly recommend. But be careful, they are very addicting! The potatoes are amazing, my over easy eggs are always cooked to perfection, and the pancetta is so good. The staff is great, very friendly and attentive. Enjoy!

One of my fav brunch spots in an unexpected location. Warm and cozy ambiance. And the food is delicious! My husband had their crepe with mascarpone cheese, bananas, rum, etc. I built my own skillet with chorizo, onions, jalapeños, roasted potatoes, fried polenta and feta cheese. It looked and tasted beautiful. Even their breakfast sausage was so fresh.

Sartre said "Life begins on the other side of despair". Let's hope that the staff at Alexander's will find life. I heard great things about the food at Alexander's, and as I walked by I noticed a paucity of patrons, so I walked in for a quick bite. I was seated, and given water. I noticed that my glass was involved in a violent make-out session: it was covered with lipstick and the rim had a chip. The server walked over with all the joviality of a Käthe Kollwitz. I ordered a coffee and the breakfast burrito. Given the number of patrons, the meal took longer than expected, but that was not my concern at that point: it was the service. To that point, the server was inattentive, terse and inhospitable. I received the meal and found the burrito to be good, but the chicken sausage added an unusual flavor due to the fennel. The burrito around the sausage was very good. The Rumba French toast (apples, and whipped cream on French toast) was done well. Not once during my meal was I asked if I needed anything or if everything was good. My water and coffee was replenished by the bus boy, but his expression brought up the mawkish imagery of rain on windows with the undulating tick of a clock in the distance. The bill was brought to my table without a word and my money was snatched from the table in the same manner. I received my change. Even though I had half a burrito left, I wasn't offered a bag - my server just stormed off. I simply left. I would come back to Alexander's but given the morose atmosphere - I'll stay home, watch an Ingmar Bergman film and gently cry myself to sleep.

Finally a good place to go in Skokie. First, I will say that I am an "Original Pancake House" lover for life. Hands down no pancakes are good as theirs. For good eggs such as omelets or skillets this is a good option for Skokie, MG, Niles, and Lincolnwood folks. This is not the greatest breakfast in the Chicago area but I think it is solid out of the ordinary Skokie breakfast food. Anyone who lives in our area knows exactly what places that I am referring to when I say ordinary breakfast. Other reviewers mentioned that this is not Pat's. True it is not. So if you are a longtime Pat's or Annie's Devotee then you will be disappointed in the price and the food because the price is higher but the food is different. My wife and I thought the price was fair but maybe because we have dropped $50 bucks on breakfast at spots in the city we think that $40 for the four of us with coffee was decent. My wife had the eggs benedict and I had the "make your own skillet". The skillet and omelet options allow you to choose a meat, couple veggies and cheese plus it comes with skillet potatoes (which I think are good) and you get a side of toast. We both liked our meals and the kids got pancakes and they liked them a well. To sum it up I think that some folks will like and Alexander's and some won't. That's OK because if we all had the same tastes then we would be waiting in line to eat like at some places in the City. Which by the way, I don't think any place is good enough to wait outside for. If you do try Alexander's and don't like, don't trash them, just chalk it up to "I didn't like that much" and move on to the next spot. I say this because I think lots of people are trashing restaurants all over yelp and I don't think that is necessary. If you don't like a place just say so without going into a tyrant about how they did everything wrong. Especially for our local places that are trying to make it in a restaurant chain or big box store world. It is tough for them. If they are truly bad then they will fail on their own regardless of what reviews say.

I recently moved back to Chicago, after growing up here, then moving to Los Angeles for the past 10 years. I was raised in Skokie, and my parents still live there, so while I live in the city, I frequently am back in the Village. It is great to see how many new restaurants have opened up in the time I was gone. I often think Skokie is overlooked, with the lure of the city being so close, and a thriving Evanston also very nearby. Going out to breakfast has always felt so decadent to me (in a good way!) and I kept hearing about the breakfast offerings at Alexander's on Oakton, I had to see for myself how good it really was. As I opened the door to enter, I was immediately greeted and took that as a good sign. Though I'd heard it was always so crowded, and there wasn't much parking right alongside the restaurants, I expected more of a crowd, but perhaps the threat of yet another 6 inches of snow kept people indoors. As I chose my seat, I was offered coffee right away - a huge plus to me, as I can never be too caffeinated. I have waited tables for many many years throughout my life and making sure that my customers that drank a lot of coffee always had their mugs filled before having to ask was always a bit daunting to me - as if I could never get to them fast enough, but my mug was never empty, and for that I was grateful. The menu was exciting, and I was happy to be meeting friends so that I could see (and taste!) more than just what I was ordering. After much deliberation, I finally went with the Breakfast Burrito which had scrambled eggs, vegetarian chili, chicken sausage, onion, tomato, avocado and cheddar cheese all rolled up into a flour tortilla, topped with sour cream and salsa verde. It was presented beautifully, cut just right so I could see each ingredient. I chose fruit over the breakfast potatoes, and was surprised to see bananas, mangos and apples mixed in amongst the usual strawberries and pineapple. My friends got the Tuscany Skillet, which I might get upon my return, perhaps just for the smoky tasting salsa mixed in with the polenta cake, eggs and bacon, and scrambled eggs with rye toast. The owner himself helped our waitress carry out the dishes and while he didn't introduce himself to us, nor identify as the owner, I liked seeing him jumping in to help his staff. I am consistently impressed with managers/owners in any line of work that are willing to do anything they also ask their staff to do. It's the attention to detail in presentation, the great tasting coffee, the bright colors of the walls and booths, seeing the waitstaff seem to actually enjoy their jobs and the cute little overhead lights shaped like fresh red strawberries that made this a place I'd definitely join in recommending to friends looking for a quick brunch when passing through Skokie.

Solid little dinner in the heart of Skokie. They serve up traditional and inventive breakfasts with some of the freshest ingredients and friendliest service around. Great spot to bring kids. They are ready with the crayons. Breakfast Burrito and skillets are on point. The owner is a merry soul who engages the customers and makes sure they're having a good time.

Excellent. Great food, big portions, quality ingredients. It is not Pat's Place. Why people would even try to make a comparison amazes me. It is in the same location and serves breakfast and lunch but all comparisons should stop there. This place is clean, bright and contemporary in everything from the setting to the menu. Yes, it costs more than Pat's and rightfully so. I have dined in three times and carried out once. The staff is friendly, the customers are all smiling and I have yet to walk in and not know someone eating there. Every time I have been there the person I dine with takes half of the food home the portions are generous! Hopefully the novelty will not wear off and the comparisons to Pat's will stop. This place is really good!

Fantastic food, service and ambiance. I sampled the crab cake Benedict, lemon curd French toast, breakfast relleno, pork sandwich, quiche and bread pudding - ALL GREAT! Came here when my family was in town for my birthday. They told me the manager ran out to get birthday candles which appeared in the middle of a delicious cinnamon roll!! Above and beyond my expectations!

Okay food, horrible service. We were seated and it took 15 minutes to be acknowledged. We had two different waitresses, but had to ask the host and busboys for drinks/to take care of the check because we were ignored. Not worth the drive. We won't be back !!

I've never been to Pat's so I had no preconceived ideas for the place. I liked the bright walls, and the clean decor. The prices were okay for a small place in the middle of Skokie. About the same as a Chicago downtown brunch... The JAM and the BUTTER is YUMMMMMMMY. They make it in house, and it is GOOOD. We got the Cinnamon brioche roll French toast and the skirt steak skillet. We already told the server that there was barely any cinnamon taste in the brioche, and she thanked us for the comment. Chicken sausage, I would def get again. The skillet was good, nothing superbly comment worthy. Coffee is neverending and they were good about refills. Water stayed filled too. I want to try the different pancakes and french toasts next time. The server was quite bubbly, which is good in the morning. It's so convenient and walking distance to me, so I will be back.

I recently visited Alexander's for the first time. It is in the same location as Pat's was. This is definitely not a replacement for Pat's. For me thAt is a good thing. I ordered the French Toast with the berries and cream. OUTSTANDiNG! My sister ordered regular bacon and eggs which she said were very good. Plus their coffee is great. Many of the items are not run of the mill, which makes this little place different from what had been available in Skokie. It is a simple decor and friendly. For those Pat'S Place regulars, I guess you'll have to go to Annie's or Marilyn's in Morton Grove, but if you are looking for something slightly more imaginative, Alexander's is for you. Their lunch menu looks I ticking, I will come back for that. Great addition to downtown Skokie. Four stars not five due to the seating set up.

Ok so this is about my 4th time at Alexanders, and I have loved every single delish dish I have had so far! Not a huge breakfast eater, but my husband is and is slowly converting me. I have been when it is prime time breakfast and it is jam packed, which is good and bad, good cuz I want them to stay and be successful, bad when there isn't much of a waiting area and there is construction outside the door. I've also been here in the middle of the week and the staff are so kind and courteous to a few of the older ladies who needed help getting out the door. I mean the one guy literally took the ladies arm, escorted her out the door, around the corner and into the car that was waiting to pick her up. HUGELY IMPRESSED! I've only had 1 lunch item the pesto chicken and it was super juicy, very flavorful, very filling, took 1/2 home with me! Some of the breakfast things I have had are the Caprese omelette, the Opa omlette, and the bacon and asparagus sandwich. I love the mix of flavors and texture and it all comes out hot. They are always willing to make substitutes, servers and staff are super friendly. I adore this spot and can't wait to try some more things!

We went here last month. My husband, my 9 yr old, and I were pleased. Finally a great breakfast around here. The taters were great, French toast delicious, my omelet and my husbands skillet were savored. The service was scattered but friendly and we weren't that bothered. It was crowded and there is not a good place to stand while you wait but we managed. We went again yesterday. My Italian omelet was delicious but my taters were cold. My husband got the benedict Florentine but was underwhelmed. The hollandaise was a bit thick. We will still go back though. I think they just need a better service system to showcase the food.

This place is great. My family and I have been to Alexander's multiple times and it is always delicious. The menu options are really creative and the food is always fresh and seasoned really well. They have great pancakes, skillets and breakfast potatoes. We have been here mostly for breakfast but also once for lunch and the food was just as good. (Soup was delicious) The service is always very good and the environment is bright and colorful. You can tell the owner really cares about this place because he is always there and always in the kitchen cooking. Check it out! You won't be disappointed unless you are afraid of well seasoned food and creative dishes. Not your usual greasy spoon!

Nice decor, service is terrible. The layout is not ideal and if you sit in the booths by the back you will get the slowest service. Staff struggled to get to the tables by us. We literally watched at least 5 parties come in after us, get seated and served and left before we even got our food. Prices are higher than average.

Went here for the first time with four friends who also had never been. Saw how well it was rated on Yelp, and to try it. We all loved it, can't wait to get back and the other ladies said the same. Small, arrived around 11:30 and had to wait about 10 - 15 min. but so worth it. I enjoyed Key Lime french toast, the key lime curd and fresh cream were perfect, not too tart or too sweet. Highly recommend Alexander's!

We went there on a Sunday morning around 11am. My wife and I didn't want to drive into the city to have a great meal, so we decided to give this place a try based on previous reviews. Upon entering the restaurant, the hostess looked annoyed and played on her phone while we waited. We finally asked her for a seat and she told us about 10 minutes. As we waited, the hostess continued to play on her phone and we couldn't help but notice how LOUD the space was. Literally, it was like people were shouting...not my ideal brunch atmosphere, but we decided to stay. After being seated, the hostess gave us the standard menu and the "specials" menu. First, the specials menu was dirty, wet, and had dried drips of old coffee. I was completely grossed out. The table was dirty and the standard menu was sticky. We then waited for 10 minutes for someone to come to our table. When we finally got our food and drinks it was pretty "blah". I regretted not making the drive to the city. I'm sure the neighborhood wants this place to succeed, but $10-13 egg breakfasts are not worth dealing with bad service, dirty menus, and mediocre food. I can pay that elsewhere and get an amazing dish and experience.

We decided to try this place after years of going to our usual place in the Glen. It looked promising, the Resturant was full and there was a line to be seated which tells me it must be good. No host, the 3 waiters who worked there were too busy to get to us. Then, a long wait for the waitress to take our order. I ordered the Alexander's Benedict eggs,I asked for no meat and for the eggs to be poached hard. First time the eggs were soft, I sent it back. Second time I had meat inside, I sent it back. Third time: the eggs are soft again. When asked to speak to a manager I was told that our very own waitress is the manager for today. Well, after my entire family finished their breakfast, the waitress who was hard to find and no one in charge we gave up and left. What a disappointment! Never coming back, never recommending!

alexanders is a new restaurant in downtown skokie that took the place of the venerable greasy spoon, pats place. i knew things would be different when i saw home fries instead of potato clippings (hash browns). i was excited. the four of us tried the black bean burger with sweet potato fries which were both delicious. the veggie chili was scrumptous, the potato leak soup was awesome and the warm ciabatta bread brought with our food was fresh and excellent. the service was very good, the music and ambiance well thought out, all in all an excellent addition to downtown skokies burgeoning food scene. its worth a trip up there and easy to get to with the new oakton street skokie swift line. i give it four stars because it is pricy, especially compared to whats pats cost. but quality is important and alexanders does it right. i cant see the elderly folks that reside in this suburb flocking to it based on thriftiness but for young folks and those that care about quality, alexanders rocks!

Solid diner with unique selection of breakfast food. My boyfriend and I both ordered the chile relleno dish and it was very good. Great portion size, nice flavor and texture combinations. Nice location with free street parking around. The diner is loud so not an ideal location for intimate conversation but that didn't matter for my particular experience. My biggest critique is that our server was extremely underwhelming. She never welcomed us or stated her name, didn't mention any specials, was slow to get our drinks, slow to take our order, and only addressed me and not my boyfriend when asking (too many times) in passing if everything was ok. She displayed a noticeable bias and lack of professionalism.

First impression when I walked in was a pretty good one, I liked the decor, it had an open airy type of feel, however some of the walls could of been a little more decorated. Then came the menus. I was a little shocked at the prices. Almost 12 bucks for a skillet. However I ordered the 2 eggs any style with potatoes and toast. WOW !!!!!!! I was extremely impressed with the presentation. The potatoes were a bit salty but good. The butter and jelly are home made and it was excellent. Will I return? Maybe!!! If they have a price overhaul. its just a little bit out of my budget. Good place friendly staff. I rate it a 3.5* out of 5 :)

In downtown Skokie, this is small little breakfast diner. Looking at reviews I heard everyone say the Mayan Benedict was amazing. Although that is on sunday brunch menu, they were able to make it for me on a weekday, which was great. Avocados, chorizo, plantains, and rice all topped off with a great sauce!! Unlike any benedict I have ever had. I have also tried the Toluca scramble and that by far is my favorite. Its comes with chorizo, avocados, sour cream and 3 tortillas! Cant forget about the roasted brunch potatoes, they are really good. Wish they had more combos with pancakes though, but this is a solid breakfast spot in this area.

Being a fan of this former establishment as Pat's Place, my husband and I had to check out the newly opened Alexander's. We were very aware that this new downtown Skokie addition had just opened several days prior but that didn't stop us from checking it out on opening weekend. The size and overall layout is the same as Pat's place was. Clearly renovated with yellow walls and a nicely painted mural, overall very welcoming. Some things I noticed... - nice plates, silverware etc., tables and chairs (except our table was not level, and rocked back and forth) - several lights burnt out throughout the restaurant and track lighting without the lighting -VERY LOUD, there appears to be a lot of hard surfaces in here (including hardwood floors) and the echo is pretty brutal - food took a lonnnngg time but acknowledged by staff which was appreciated -pricing seemed appropriate (comparable to Annie's but no Pat's place, 7-10 pp) and quality seemed good -a lot of the diners knew each other -the walkways seemed quite narrow and sitting in the middle aisle, we were constantly getting nudged by "walkerbyers" All in all, It's a fresh new look, not your Pat's place pricing but food was of good quality. I recommend waiting a couple weeks until the cooks can increase their speed of food delivery and waitstaff can stop running around looking like chickens with their head cut off. Recommendation to the staff- communicate to your guests that you pay the waitress instead of up front (which was customary at Pat's place, and assuming your customers are locals and frequented Pat's Place, this would be helpful to know). Have an egg white option listed on your menu and allow for adjustments when requested (for example, certain veggies or cheese listed on the menu can not be added to other dishes). Good luck!

Finally, a restaurant in Skokie that I want to visit again and again! I am a HUGE breakfast connoisseur and have devoured dozens of omelettes at restaurants all over Chicago and the north suburbs. After one visit, Alexander's won a spot in my top three and after four weeks and four breakfasts, it is officially my number one! Now, if you just want basic bacon and eggs you may want to stick with a diner, but if you are looking for a slew of unique taste sensations made from high quality ingredients served by friendly staff who provide excellent customer service, then Alexander's is your place! The plates are worth the prices - you get a large amount of delicious food, great service, a bright and cheery atmosphere, and free parking (try finding that in Chicago). I think the Build Your Own Omelette is $8.95 and includes a generous four ingredients (one meat, two veggies, and one cheese). If eggs aren't your thing then go sweet with cherry and peach crepes or rhubarb french toast, or try something savory with Greek and Mexican-inspired dishes. Many come with a side of herb-roasted yukon gold potatoes and a slice of fruit. When I asked for a tomato substitution, I was given a whole, ripe tomato! In my opinion, specials are for trying new things not getting a good deal, and that's what you'll find at Alexander's: Caribbean omelettes (with shrimp, cilantro, green onion, cream cheese and mango chutney), smoked salmon omelettes, blackberry crunch pancakes... It's the kind of appetizing menu that makes you want to try everything served by the kind of staff that makes you want to return. Jimmy and Perla are the BEST and give me decaf coffee to go every time! I grew up in and work in Skokie, and for the first time, I am proud to recommend a restaurant in my town! By the way, the owner, Ted, also owns the Cafe Mozart in Evanston at Chicago and Davis and named Alexanders after his newborn son.

Agree with other reviewers. Food is good, terrible service. Have been there several times so it is not a one-time occurrence. Last time we went at peak brunch hour, so I could forgive them being kind of slow. But today, we were there early, the place was NOT packed, we were a party of 6 with 3 small kids and it took FOREVER to get our food. Other tables that had come in after us got their food before we did. Something like 25 minutes from placing our orders, the kids are losing it despite our best efforts and have gone through all the snacks that I brought, finally our food shows up, only that they got my order wrong! I had asked for one of the menu items with "no chorizo" and it shows up with ....chorizo. The waitress does not apologize, she said, oh, it sounded like you said "no cheese". does cheese sound like Chorizo?!? So, I sent it back and you'd think that having it be their mistake, they would hoof it to get the new order out, but no- it took maybe another 15 minutes while everyone else at the table was done with their meals. I finally got it to go and ate it at home. Also, they had put 4 coffees on the check despite that we only ordered 3, and when we pointed this out to the waitress she gave us this evil eye and counted how many cups we had on the table to be sure we weren't ripping her off. We'll be looking for another brunch place in the area. I like to support local businesses, but really- get it together.

Great food if you have the time and money. My vegan husband was happy to get the Organic tofu scramble with veggie-sausage and rye bread. I had the French toast - very tasty but 3 thick pieces (served with fresh berries) was too much for me. Nice to get decent coffee at a sit-down place. We will definitely come back to try the lunch items - when we ever get the time. You know you're getting carefully made food from scratch, but it seems to take a while (20 minutes or so for our items). If you're in a hurry and want to spend less for "run of the mill" breakfast - go to Annie's down the street.

Great food ! I have been here three times already, since they opened and I look forward to going back. Everything is SOOO fresh! The fruit, the salad, juices, everything!. The pesto is delicious. The killer grilled cheese is worth the calories. yummy! :-) The mango talapia wrap is a hearty meal in itself and then you get a side with it. I was stuffed. I also tried the chicken walnut pesto, it was absolutely devine. The chicken with the fresh mozzarella and walnut pesto makes it the perfect sandwich. The chef doesn't offer it just yet as a wrap but if you ask they will accomodate, for those trying to cut back on carbs. The staff is great too. Everyone is very friendly. I went with 2 friends on a Wednesday for breakfast. It's a cute little place, bright and cheerful with lots of windows. Plenty of street parking. It was empty at 9:30 but when we left around 11 it was filling up. The waitress was a young girl, very nice and went out of her way to give us great service. I ordered French toast and sausage, the French toast was thick and tasty, cooked perfectly. My friend got the eggs Benedict, the other an omelette. Everyone liked their food. It was about $15 pp before tip, we each had coffee too. We go out to a lot of breakfasts and it was very good, okay, it was a few dollars more than a diner but this was a notch above a diner to me.

I think if you go here weekends during brunch, yeah it's packed and busy and yeah the servers are probably overwhelmed too... Whatevs.. Stuff happens. We've been anxiously awaiting the opening of Alexander's for quite a while, so were excited to visit for the first time this morning. The place looks great -- clean and simple, bright and airy, as a good breakfast/lunch place should be. We were seated immediately; the staff was attentive and friendly. The menu is extensive with a lot of very interesting choices for breakfast. I'm someone who tends to always order the exact same thing every time I go out for breakfast (2 eggs scrambled very well done, rye toast, ham) but this menu was so inviting I went off my usual and tried the Opa omelette with tomatoes, feta, spinah, onion, and kalamata olives, served with their Tzitziki (sorry if I'm misspelling!) sauce. Since I wasn't familiar with the sauce, the waitress offered to bring it on the side, though she was certain I would like it. She was right! The meal came with toast (with creamy whipped butter and jam) and hash browns. Everything was delicious. My fiance (who apparently has a cast iron stomach at 8:30 a.m.) had the chiles rellenos served with fried plantains and spicy rice and black beans. Since he'd never had this before, the waitress explained how to eat the dish using the accompanying flour tortillas, which he really enjoyed. Our coffee was topped off frequently, and we felt comfortable bringing the Sunday NYT and making ourselves at home. (Don't worry, we didn't sit and read the paper after our meal was over or with people anxiously waiting to be seated!) For the quality and quantity of food as well as the fast and friendly service, I thought the prices were more than reasonable. (To Steve M., my fiance said he ate at Sanders yesterday and the prices are exactly the same as at Alexander's.) Combine all this with the fact that the place is just a few blocks from our house, we definitely plan to make this our regular Sunday breakfast spot.

We tried Alexander's for the first time last week. It's such a cheerful addition to downtown Skokie. Bright, lively, colorful, and a friendly staff. The menu offers more interesting fare than you'd get at a standard breakfast/lunch place. The soup is homemade, and the sandwiches come on good-quality baguettes. A couple of people have complained about price, but I thought the prices were very reasonable for what you get. I'll definitely go back.

My fiancé and I went out for a much needed breakfast date at Alexander's today. I got that Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict and he got crepes with strawberries. The Eggs Benedict was fantastic. I have never had anything quite like it before. It was just perfect. His crepes were very good also, strawberry crepes are not on the menu but they were great about making it for him. The orange juice tasted fresh squeezed and had lots of pulp (which I love) The only slight downside was we were not a fan of their "brunch potatoes" I thought they were just ok. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. We will be going back soon!

After trying their breakfast, I came for lunch. Just as good! I had a hard time deciding among the many unique and interesting dishes. Their fresh brewed iced tea was refreshing and delicious, and I decided on the carnitas torta, which was huge! Carnitas meat, eggs, avocado, and i don't even know what kind of sauce was on it, but it was flavorful and had just the right amount of kick for my taste. See the picture I posted. It came with their breakfast potatoes. I dipped a few in Cholula and ketchup, but next time I will substitute for fruit. I looked around and the other lunches had equally interesting looking dishes. First of all the place was small, loud and crowded. Screaming kids, bad waiting staff. Waited to be acknowledged to be seated for five min while staff ran around like chickens without heads. only two of us mind you, then we get seated asked what we'd like to drink, advised hot tea and coffee, only to receive the tea 10 min later, no coffee yet. Had to flag down a waitress 3x before one finally acknowledges us and ask for the missing coffee.. ay at last 20min later the first cup of coffee!, another 15 min before order taken, 1 breakfast comes, not both, 10 min longer for the wifes breakfast to come, looks pretty but very OVER Seasoned. Eggs Benedict looked good, but the sauce was bitter and so was the spinach couldn't eat it tasted sour, potatoes over seasoned couldn't eat it. Never could find the waitress for another cup of coffee but the table across from us had a bus boy continously fill their coffee. Crying kids and jumping against my back, no sound boards to absorb the noise level so you couldn't hear your mate speak. My Wife asked for the pecan pancakes but couldn't find the pecans in the pancakes, when finally flagged a waitress she acted indignant that we'd ask for some and brought us unchopped tablespoon full. Had to wait another 20 min to flag a waitress to come and give us a check. $28.00 later and we still went out after to another restaurant for a real breakfast. the entire ordeal took an hour. It's a shame we were looking so forward to a "New" breakfast place locally, but no such luck here. Not a good place if you want a nice breakfast with Coffee and to be able to hear yourself think. Please Train your Staff before opening the place. They were all lost chickens without heads and Useless. Expensive lesson, not worth the money.

Thank you, Yelp! My friends and I went to play mini-golf on Saturday and needed a place for brunch. Yelp suggested this place. Ambiance: colorful and cheery. It's quite condensed inside, and while we were waiting we were standing super close to tables. But, there's no space for chairs. Not really a big deal, though. We only had to wait 5-10 minutes at 11:30 on a Saturday, so not too bad. Food: Delicious. I had a Belgian waffle ($7) and my friends had the Latin omelette (special of the day, $11) and French omelette ($10). Their omelettes came with two pieces of toast and potatoes, which looked amazing. The waffle was perfectly light, while soft and crispy. Service: Solid. The waiter was nice, as was the host. Even though it was crowded, we weren't rushed at all and everyone was friendly. I highly recommend. I will definitely be back.

This is a nice location with relatively decent breakfast/brunch food. I've been here twice. Service: The hostesses are very capable and professional, and the waitstaff and servers are nice as well. Food: The food tends to be on the very heavy/creamy side, and not particularly flavorful. I've shared the oatmeal, a berry French toast, berry and vanilla cream crepes, and pancakes. All were fine. A suggestion to the menu team would be to offer a few more "light" options or smaller portions (I realize this is against most consumers' tastes, so I understand the hesitation). Location: It's conveniently located near other cute local businesses, and the decor inside is just so happy. Street parking is usually readily available.

Yummy food + cheerful interior = the perfect brunch spot! I've been to Alexander's twice so far. The first time, I ordered the Bacon and Asparagus Sandwich. SO GOOD. I'm constantly on a quest to find the perfect breakfast sandwich and this one comes pretty darn close. Plus it comes on sourdough...need I say more? I will say, if you're not a bleu cheese fan, they really do pile it on there. While I do love my bleu cheese, I'd probably ask them to go easy next time I order this. My second time, I ordered the French Omelette. Very tasty! It was a little heavy on the sun dried tomato pesto so I just wiped it off the top. Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving Alexander's a try! It does get crowded on the weekends (which is the sign of a good brunch spot) so be prepared to wait a little while (I think we waited 15-20 minutes). I know I'll be back.

I stopped in for an unplanned brunch when I got frustrated in traffic in the middle of a Spring snow day. Thanks to my Yelp reviewers, i am glad I made a pit stop. Given the plethora of gourmet breakfast/brunch spots in Chicago, this is a pleasant change from 45 min waits, to unlimited mimosa and fancy Bloody Mary options out there. The inside of the restaurant is cute and inviting yet maintains a diner feel. Food options are plentiful and I tried the smoked salmon hash with sweet potatoes and scrambled eggs. Instead of toast, I upgraded to a side of French toast. Food was delicious and I left satisfied and content. My only reason for knocking off a star was because my side of 1 piece of French toast in lieu of regular toast cost almost $4. PS: although other reviewed have griped about slow service, I didn't feel that way but ten again it was snowing and the restaurant was about a third full.

I was pleasantly surprised by my eating experience here at this restaurant bc of the just "a-ok" reviews on this place. I originally was at Annie's (which is down the street) but they were so packed I decided I would no longer torture my hungry tummy and come to Alexander's which wasn't as busy. The restaurant is a little and small and the seating is a little awkward. There are 2 tables for two smack dab in the middle of the restaurant which I thought was a little uncomfortable. I had read on the service of this place and though I wasn't met with any rude waitresses (ours was quite polite an d nice!), it was pretty slow. I ordered the mayan benedict (which I cant find on the website menu so this may have been a special?) and it is as good as I imagined it to be. The eggs were perfectly poached on to of a bed of black bean patty. It also came with spanish rice and plaintains. The whole dish itself was oozing with flavor. I have never experienced a breakfast dish like that and it was amazing. I would come here again just for that dish. I knocked one star off bc it was also the loudest breakfast experience I have ever had. It was to the point where I couldn't hear my friend and we were sitting right across from each other. I dont know if it was just echo-y in there but I was starting to lose my voice. hehe However, the prices are decent and I will definitely be back! Great breakfast joint! Recommended!

Took 45 minutes to get our food after we ordered. Got hangry. Shared two plates with a friend. Scarfed down the smoked salmon benedict - good and not too salty. Couldn't have more than a couple bites of the mango strawberry pancakes though. There was literally one strawberry on the side and topped with a bunch of blueberries, which was unexpected. And something was off about the while dish. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back here but good to know there's an alternative to Annie's.

Whether breakfast or lunch, Alexander's delivers! No need to go into Chicago for a good, clean, fun, foodcentric experience. They're chopped salad is brilliant. Bacon and leek omelette, pork belly skillet, and cherry pancakes are personal favorites!

I ordered the brunch special chef's omelet. It was great! The mix of veggies and just a little bit of bacon, loved. The food was cooked well and hot when I received it. Coffee is pretty good too - clearly not sitting in the pot for hours. The best was the roasted brunch potatoes - I would come back just for a plate of them!! Service was a bit wishy-washy so only gave 4 stars otherwise excellent choice.

I stopped in with a friend on a whim, and I must say I was truly surprised. The cost was pretty reasonable for the awesome food that was being presented. The flavor combinations were not over looked. I will be back for sure. I recommend Alexander's to any breakfast enthusiast or if you just want good food.

The only reason this rating even received 3 stars is because of the final waitress who took care of us. Otherwise, it would have been 2 stars instead! We came to Alexander's on a Saturday and yes it was busy. I understand you are short staff, however...Oh just read along... Service: I told the waitress ( the waitress that had a dark hair) that we are a party of 5. She still sat us at a table that sits 4 people and gives an attitude stating "well that's all we have". They served water, but didn't ask if I would like any coffee. I told them already that there are 5 of us, and yet they were short of giving us another menu. Needless to say, we still didn't know who our waitress would be. We requested for the 5th chair so everyone can be seated. The waitress who was rude from the beginning told another waitress to grab a chair for us. Sadly this other waitress didn't even want to assist us. (Mind you, she's another waitress with a dark colored hair as well).Finally, another waitress took care of us. She was so much nicer and she apologized for the issue that happened. Food: Okay, the potatoes are seasoned very well. It was actually good. I ordered a make your own chef kind of thing where you can choose your own ingredients. By the way, this was not written on the menu, but it was on the table top special menu. The omelet that I ordered with spinach, mushroom, feta was delicious! Try it out. Hopefully, you have a better service than we did.

The best brunch place around bar none! Great service, relaxing atmosphere, and the food...oh the food! Every time we come back we are impressed with the flavors and variety of their menu. If you're sick of the ho hum bacon and eggs you can get anywhere and want something better do not hesitate to take a trip to Alexander's.

We came back to have breakfast this morning. We had great service and enjoyed our meals. We shared the Vanilla Latte French Toast and Toluca Scramble. The french toast only had two pieces of bread but was delicious. I didn't have a huge appetite so the portion was just right. The scramble comes with some tortillas and had great flavor. Both were under $10/entree. If I order the Vanilla Latte French Toast in the future I'd probably include a side of something. My only dissatisfaction with the place is it has been on the chilly side both times I've visited. It's still on my list of local brunch spots I'll visit in the future.

3 star review justification. One of the reasons we visited Alexander's was due to the many reviews about a crab cake Benedict. Alas, joke on us, the crab cake Benedict was a special they had not too long ago. The menu changes weekly, as do the specials. The location is on a corner and hard to miss. There is ample street parking. The decor inside is somewhat... plain. Almost reminds me of being in an unfinished room. The food in general, was edible. We ordered an omelet and one of their pulled chicken hash. Chicken hash was tender, delicious, and very well seasoned. The omelet, just wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I was upset at the potatoes. They were just chunks of red potatoes, boiled, and tossed with butter. It wasn't crispy. It was not seasoned. Just eh. Price is around the $10 to $15 range. Staff was friendly and presentable.

Been here about 5 times. Every time I say, maybe I'll try it again in a couple months. The food is pretty good and they have a nice menu selection. Unfortunately, they have terrible service. Really terrible. Super slow and disorganized. I'll try it again in 6 months to see if they have finally solved their front of house issues. I sure hope they do.

I went back recently for a brunch meeting on a Friday. Service was dramatically better--the (new) server was very friendly, and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Overall the food was better as well. I still wouldn't consider this a go-to spot, but hopefully things are improving overall. It was a good spot to have a business meeting--bright, clean and well-lit, which makes it unique compared to the rest of the area's more classic (and rather old and run-down) diners.

Probably more of a 3.5 star place but I'm in a good mood so I'm rounding up. Menu is a little different than your typical diner breakfast but it does have standard eggs and omelettes if you don't want to venture out. I had the breakfast burrito which was tasty. I will probably ask for the sour cream on the side next time as it made the eggs a little runny. Hubby loves eggs Benedict and tried the Mayan which he absolutely loved. Fruit was fresh and had pineapples, Apple, blueberry, and strawberry. Thank you Alexander's for doing something besides melon! Things for Alexander's to work on: the potatoes aren't that wonderful, I could do better at home. Service has been a little slow both times I've been there. Wait staff is attentive but food has been somewhat slow for a breakfast place. I also agree with other yelpers that the seating arrangement can be awkward. Overall, a good place for breakfast with a twist. Unless you want pancakes, I would choose Alexander's over Annie's if you are in skokie.

The food is excellent and unique. The menu is creative and have Mexican and Italian fusion. I had the bacon Benedict which is yummy. The roasted potato is very good. Hubby had mango/ sour cherry topped pancake which is yummy. The food came up a little slow but is well worth the wait.

Not a breakfast person but I would definitely make this a go to place whenever I'm in the mood for an omelette. Their roasted potatoes are pretty good and nicely seasoned. Only thing is that the coffee needs to be a notch better as it was not as fresh as it should have been. Love the decor, looks fresh and pretty modern not like those dark and dingy spots in the neighborhood. All in all nice little spot for breakfast would definitely come back again.

Alexander's is just ok in my opinion. We have gone several times and service is never really top notch. The food is ok, I have never been wowed here. I think the lack of a solid breakfast place in skokie lets Alexander's rise to the top due to no competition.

Finally, a decent breakfast/brunch joint in this quaint little suburban town. I also opted for the Salmon Benedict like a lot of the other reviewers and I wasn't let down. The potatoes were cooked well, the salmon was seasoned perfectly, the poached eggs ran, and the hollandaise sauce was executed a lot better than I'd expected from such a randomly placed restaurant. I'm willing to overlook my past encounter with the owner (also owned Cafe Mozart in Chicago it seems) because I had a great experience here. Decor was lively. They had a bright mural on one of the walls. It wasn't too busy when I visited so the servers had very little distraction. My coffee (great by the way) and water were refilled promptly and my server was extremely personable. The owner even came by to say a quick hello. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area. I wouldn't make the drive out here from the city though... there's much better brunch places elsewhere but the 4 stars is solely for the pleasant experience and the good food that I didn't expect to come out of a restaurant in Skokie.

Crazy delicious food! And creative offerings! I had the Tuscany Skillet (skirt steak, gorgonzola cheese, avocado, polenta, salsa). One word: amazing. This was my first time checking this place out - definitely will not be my last!

Wavering between a 2-3 star place. Here's why: - there were numerous egg shells in my husband's omelette (they weren't found in just 1 bite, but at least 2 different bites in different sections of the omelette!) - no option to switch out toast for pancakes without an upcharge - my chef's omelette "special" was too watery (like they didn't cook down the veggies before mixing it into the omelette) - waitress was way too soft spoken - our waters never got refilled While we appreciate the finer touches Alexander's has to offer to breakfast foods (tasty jams, upper scale ingredients), everything else was sub par. Most likely will not revisit.

Here a very quick (but accurate IMO) low down of this place. Food is excellent. I had the Salmon Benedict - it was phenomenal. The service, needs some work. At even the most commonplace breakfast restaurants (i.e., IHOP or Denny's), the servers have the courtesy to tell the customer what's special on the menu and describe the type of meat (or lack thereof) in the dish the customer inquires about (especially if it's their first time). But here, the server is just quick to take your order and move on. There weren't THAT many people at the restaurant (three other tables). When we told them that they got one of our orders wrong (we didn't expect there to be meat in the omelette dish we ordered), we weren't even given the option to switch out without having to push for it a little bit. In short, this place has the makings of a successful (and popular) foodie joint. But it needs to shape up and work on it's personnel.

This restaurant has one of the WORST service ever!!!! (except for the man who gives water and cleans your table. He is AWESOME! ) The servers could care less. They will ignore you even if you try to get their attention. I know they can see me try to call them but they just would totally you. The management should replace all of them or train them. It is sad because the food is GREAT although it is extremely slow. It would be a gem in Downtown Skokie. They need to straighten up!!!! PAGING: ALEXANDER'S OWNERS!!!

Just got turned away for wanting to sit a table for four...because the smaller tables were too small to sit comfortably at. I was told by a female waitstaff that only a party of four could sit at the big table. I wasn't happy with my first contact with this restaurant, so I won't be going back.

Wow Its packed. Is it packed because there is a line out the door? NO. It is packed because the staff is slow and rude and could care less if you are served. 35 minutes sitting in the middle aisle before a waitress showed up. Asked us if we wanted coffee. Then insisted we order then and there. Not a problem since we were waiting. Please note this review has nothing to do with the guy who gives out water and coffee. HE IS FANTASTIC. He got everyone many times and even cleared tables effectively. Coffee comes and it is good. There is plenty of cream. Food comes and it isn't what I ordered. But hey who cares since the waitress ran off. I don't like chicken sausage and would not eat it short of it being end times. Toast comes 10 minutes later. Other patrons came in were seated ate and left before we got our food. I did notice that they all either had French toast or pancakes......hmmmm. The food is good. The eggs were particularly good and the potatoes were tasty and would have been fantastic if they were hot or at least warm or at least room temperature. Couple of plus items. Easy parking. Fair price. VERY clean. I won't give them 1 star. Not without having tried it 4 or 5 times. I think they have the right number of staff.....just I can't figure out why we were an isolated island. I have high hopes they get the service issues right.

So my wife and I were going to a shopping excursion at Old Orchard (Blech) and I decided to find a breakfast joint somewhere near and came across Alexanders. I was excited because the reviews I read said it was great. I am here to tell you it is anything but great. I had a simple breakfast of poached eggs, sausage, potatoes and toast. Poached eggs were overcooked and seemed dry for some reason, sausage was cold and not even browned, potatoes were so so and the toast was cold with 2 pats of really frozen butter. Service was terrible and all of the staff seemed generally unhappy for some reason. I had one waitress walk by our table several times with hot coffee and had to finally ask to get a refill. Management? Bottom line is I wouldn't go back. Not to mention it was overpriced.
