Udupi Palace Restaurant Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Udupi serves chicken during their lunch buffet. This was a pleasant surprise because Udupi's are known to be vegetarians. However, I think this is great. Ambiance was good, ample seating, excellent wait staff. The best wait staff I have seen so far. India House, Gaylord and Udupi are the best in Schaumburg. Dont waste ur time and money trying others.

I went here on a whim on the day after 4th of july 2010. We originally were going to go downtown and eat at another place but we missed the train by a few minutes. I guess we our loss was actually a gain, because the food here was excellent. We had Samosas and a the Udupi Chaat to start with, The texture of the dahl vada in the chat was a little strange-- I'm quite sure this is how it comes just that I was unfamiliar with the dish only having Kothari Chaat in the past. You see the dahl vada which is like a fried doughnut thing get kind of soggy from absorbing all the yogurt but its flavors were great. However It is a little overloaded with tamarind chutney, a simple remedy would be to order with the chutney on the side rather then in the dish. Anyway the samosa were delicious. I had the Masala Dosa which was great, the potato and spice mixture inside was delightful. My sidekick's Baingan Bharta took forever to come out, but you cant rush such great work. It was really fresh tasting, the eggplant mixture had excellent flavors and was great over the basmati rice. And mind you I didnt try any of it until the next day when i greedily ate every last bite of her leftovers. The Onion kulcha is this extraordinary fresh baked bread that we were craving the next couple days. The waitstaff was very courteous, helpful and prompt. They filled my water every three minutes without fail and there were absolutely no floaties. (we like to inspect our water before drinking it and note if there are any floaties or other foreign particles swirling around in there) I had a spinach dosa on a subsequent visit which really wasnt what i expected but it was still good . I would say for about 20 dollars per person you can have a great satisfying meal that you will remember.

Dinner with coworkers family style. I wish I knew the names of everything we ate as it was all very good. Apparently, in India spicy is as hot as any mexican food, I've eaten. This was my first experience with Indian food, other than the occasional tandoori bread. The Lamb biryani was excellent, and is the only dish whose name I am certain of. Overall, all the dishes were very good, and flavorful. The service was excellent and the cost was very reasonable.

So hear is the long and short of it.... I have been looking at Udupi Palace for a long time wondering if I should check it out. We have been going to India House (on Schaumburg road) and although it is good it is very pricey and also very formal. This night found us in a hurry but eager to check Udupi out. Upon walking in we let the host know that we had somewhere to be in 45 mins and checked if that would be enough time to enjoy are meal. After assuring us that it was indeed enough time we sat down and looked at the menu. Here comes the short.....The service was OUTSTANDING (if you look at my other posts service is a HUGE thing for me) to the say the least. I would even say it is the best restaurant service I have had in quite a while. The food was quick, hot, and very good. After our first visit I highly recommend this as a strong Indian choice when in the Schaumburg area.

I have been to this place multiple times now, mostly for the lunch buffet. The weekday buffet($7.95) is reasonably priced and you get fresh dosa and uthapams at your table. The north indian part of the buffet is surprisingly good at times, but very oily and heavy. They even have tandoori chicken. The problem with this place is the cleanliness of the dishes and the service. Have had to wait for the naan, vadas and idlis at the buffet. Since one is pressed for time during lunch on a weekday, it can get annoying. The weekend lunch buffet is $12, but the menu is the same as the weekdays, nothing extra. For a la carte, they have $4 plain dosas and $5 masala dosas, which is a good option when you just want to eat light.

Great vadas and Puri. Idlis were soft and fresh.

This was a great place with great food. This was only my second or third time eating Indian food and my first time in this place and I enjoyed everything! I particularly liked my lamb biryani but I also had the samosas, etc. all of which were good as well. I even had a little dessert after and was surprised by the subtle but sweet delectability of this treat.

One of the worst India buffets I have eaten at, I have nothing positive to say about this place. Service is terrible, the cleanliness is horrible (just take a look at the plates on the buffet), and the food really sucks.

I don't even feel like rating this restaurant after the kind of service we received. The MANAGER was totally rude. We entered and he looked at us like a piece of crap. We asked about the thali and he answered rudely and said we would not get the thali, there was only buffet. I had no issues with the thali not being available but had a big problem with the man's attitude.. He would not even allow us to finish our lunch. They were in such a hurry to close. We entered at 2:15 & they close at 3:00. They just did not want any orders. Then why not close at 2:00 itself?? Service is pathetic. The buffet is totally bland. They had once served a samosa that was burning hot from inside. It was just cold on the outside, so I took a bite. I burnt my palette . The entire roof of my mouth was burnt. The skin had come off and it was bleeding . I had to follow a cold, liquid diet for quite some days. Be careful guys..

The restaurant dons a modern décor which is untypical of an Indian restaurant with a couple of fake palm trees, I visited the restaurant for their lunch buffet which not only includes lots of south Indian breakfast dishes like idly, dosas etc. but also regular curries to make up a nice brunch, as typical of any Indian restaurant the lunch buffet always includes hit or miss items. But over all the food was good specially for the price, the only bad thing with this restaurant is that the people who get in around 2:40 like us were warned that they will are only open till 3 PM for lunch and we have only 20 min to eat, just a few min before 3PM they started to remove food from the buffet stations, while I appreciate their sense of time they also need to understand patrons should be given sufficient time to eat if they close by 3PM for lunch they should allow a lenience of around 30 min or else they should open a fast food kind of a place. While I like there food I would think twice before going there specially if I were to be visiting the place little late as the experience can be little annoying.

This place has some great Indian food. The menu is strictly vegetarian. Its very flavorful with lots of great spices. I always go here and have the dosa. The dosa is an amazing combination of bread, sauces, spices. It is a great place to go to get some authentic Indian food.

Delicious! A step up from most other Indian buffets. Idli was great (especially with the coconut chutney - yum yum!) Udupi Palace is a bit more refined than other places I have been to. The service is a little inconsistent though, my first visit the service was pretty non-existent, but my second visit was the exact opposite. Nice big selection, and the dosas they bring to the table is a nice touch - I haven't seen anywhere else bring dosas to each table. I really like the way the restaurant is decorated too - it has a good feel to it. One thing I wish they would improve upon is the cleanliness though, there were a few spills up by the buffet and a big nasty mess under our table but other than that the food was great and that is why I am giving it 4 stars.

  • Hemlock F.

They have a special on dosas... 4$ for plain dosa and 5$ for masala. So grab a dosa next time instead of a Subway footlong... prices of other dishes are also reasonable, especially the South Indian tiffins like idli, vada and utappam. It's usually always crowded, so I am guessing people like it and come back. We will go back for sure.

I'm only giving it one star based on the service we rec'd when talking about catering an event. I have eaten here before, and the food is good, but even then, the service was sub-par. On this instance, we met with a man named Ray. This took place in early February, 2007, and was for an event in July, 2007. Thus, we took an early road to try to see what our options were. Ray is not a very good man to talk with or do business with. It was very intimidating and a high pressured situation. He repeatedly mentioned that in order for this to be a "deal" we had to commit right then and there. We said that we weren't going to decide for atleast a week as we have to shop around and compare our options. He didn't like any of this. He didn't offer us any tastings (but we did eat there on our own dime anyways). He didn't even offer us water. When the water boy came around to pour water, he sent him back and removed the glasses from our table. After we finished telling him what we wanted, and he gave us his "best" price (which was only 20 dollars less than the original price for a several thousand dollar order), he left the table. He never even said "thanks for coming" or shook our hands...Nothing! My family then got our food. However, at the end of the meal, when we were leaving, he still didn't even bother to come by and say "thanks" or "let me know when you have a chance". He simply was soo upset at the instance that we said that we cannot let him know within one day as he demanded. That kind of service is not the standard if you go to other Indian restaurants for catering. I decided, even if other places are the same price as his place, I will NOT choose Udupi for their catering, simply based on how we were treated when we made initial contact. Funny thing, he said he likes to cater events since it advertises his food to many people at once. Too bad this review in itself will reach far more!

It is a pretty good place but there are so many other good Indian places in the area. Udupi would not be my first choice but I would go back. It is southern Indian food so they have many good dishes that other Indian places don't have. They have a decent buffet for $10.95.

Come for the Dosai and stay for some Masala Chai. When it comes to south Indian vegetarian food there is no better in Chicagoland. Go on Saturday or Sunday for brunch if you want to get a taste of a variety of dishes for a good price.

Excellent food and extremely quick and attentive service. I think I ordered and had my food within six minutes! Channa Batura was delicious. My waiter even remembered me even though I haven't been here for several years (I live in another state). Good memory! Makes one feel very welcome.

Several weeks ago, after a grueling day of work, walks, and whining, my bff, husband and I headed out to Udupi for Indian food. When I go out for Indian, I'm usually going to the lunch buffets because they're cheaper than dinner and offer a variety of dishes to choose from, which was especially helpful when I am not as familiar with a cuisine. But we had been to Udupi once before and had gotten a dosa which is a crepe stuffed with a different fillings. I am not sure where else to get this delicious goodness around Schaumburg. We ordered two kinds of dosas as appetizers, one with potatoes and onions, the other was cheese. The cheese dosa was unbelievably good. If there's such a thing as Indian pizza, that would be it. We also ordered individual dishes whose names I'm always going to misspell, so I'm going to be lazy and just give you the description. There was lamb in red cream sauce, potato and vegetables in red cream sauce, and then my dish, which was supposed to be spinach in not-red-cream sauce. I am good with mildly spicy food, which is the description for what the others ordered, but mine was described as spicy. I asked my server if they could make it no spice and he said that he would try and that it might be mild, which was fine. So our food comes out and my dish is spicy. Not mild spicy, super hot spicy. Like twice as spicy as the other dishes, which my BFF and my husband didn't mind, but I just couldn't handle. Part of the way through the meal the server comes back and asks me if it is okay; I tell him I can't handle the spice and he tells me that he's so sorry and would be happy to replace it. He meant it too, but by that time I was full and the others were eating it so I didn't really care. When the bill came, I was surprised to see that he hadn't charged me for my entrée! I thought that was outstanding customer service, especially since I hadn't asked for anything. He honestly just wanted us to have a good experience and did all he could to make sure that it happened. Thanks for making my night, friend. You're the type of person who makes me want to do business with your business.

I'm giving UDUPI a two star, but if they go back to the way it was a couple years ago, I would rate it a five star all the way! AWHILE AGO 1. Food was out of this world. Hot, large portions you can take home and eat later! Who doesn't want to take food home to snack on later. Their onion and garlic naan was huge and cooked to perfection. We would always order the Chicken Tikka Masala. Always outstanding and the flavor was consistent and the waiters were always friendly and attentive. CURRENT 1. Portions are very small. Food tastes as if it were prepared in advance. The onion and garlic naan are small and crunchy like a cracker. The flavor is never consistent and your lucky if your waiter comes and fills your glass and if they do, it's always with 1/2 melted ice cubes. I also noticed the bathrooms are kinda looking and smelling like an outhouse. UDUPI PALACE RESTAURANT We are not giving up on you yet. If you are reading this, please take my post and others posts seriously before you have to close the doors. If you manage this restaurant like you did in the past, you'll be sitting on a little gold mine. Your food is never consistent. Small portions for the money we spend. Water is filled, but with almost melted ice cubes. Customers like cold water, not almost room temperature. The garlic and onion naan should not be burnt and crispy. If you are new management or purchased this restaurant, can you please revert back to the original recipes that were left when you purchased this restaurant. If you are still the original owner, what the heck happened? Please change or there will be a point I will no longer come in. In the event you do change, please notify me through this review and I'll be more than happy to get a group of people to come in and eat. Ohhh, one last thing - your buffet is also a nightmare. The quality has took a nose dive along with the taste. Thanks for listening.

Pathetic food. Never coming here again. Lamb pulav was served instead of lamb biryani. Duh... I am from Hyderabad, I ate biryani's for years I know when I eat one. Veg thali was as bad as railway food back in 80's if you know what I mean. Ordered Aloo parotha for my kids- 2 year olds & specially requested for non spicy. My kids started crying as they put one piece. On double checking they gave exactly opposite to what I asked. It had black peppers and green chillies. Overall bad cook & management

I can't give this place more than 3 starts because the heater was broken in the middle of the winter!! Come on people, it's the middle of winter & you're in the Midwest, this is not acceptable. Even the staff had on huge jackets. Ok, rant over. The food was decent but the servers and manager (maybe owner) was super nice. Started with a fried apps sampler, everything had a great crisp, esp the potato patties. For dinner, I got the rava onion masala dosa. It was different than I had before, but the potato stuffing wasn't great. My cousin got the butter chicken, and it was a bit on the sweet side. I noticed that about a few things. Naan were hot & fluffy. Sambhar was plentiful. Parking was easy since it's a strip mall. And they have a coat hanging area at the enterance.

One of my coworkers brought me and 3 others here last week for lunch. We all had the buffet. I have not eaten too much Indian food before, but I have a little bit of experience with it. They had a pretty good curry chicken going on there, I was happy with that. Also they had curry lamb but it seemed to just be all end peices with the lamb. They had these potato filled crepes that were just sort of plain to me but to tell the truth, I should have topped them with a sauce or something to add to them. The staff was friendly and the food was OK but I loved the curry chicken! I would go back just for the chicken and build me a little salad and I would be happy!

Yum, yum, yum! It had been ages since I've had good Indian food, and I wanted to find some during my most recent visit home to the Chicago burbs. Yelp led me to Udupi, and it was good. The palak paneer was lusciously creamy without being overwhelming...the kind of sauce that you sop up with your naan...or lick clean. Our masala dosa was also nicely spiced, though a bit more filling would have been nice given the gigantic size of the crepe. I also expected some of the chutneys that usually go with dosas. Per my recommendation, my brother went to Udupi a few days later with friends and raved about their bhaigan bharta, the deliciously spiced roasted eggplant dish. What's w/ the 4 stars then? Well, their basamati rice was really HARD, which means undercooked or old...That's not cool. And I think that it's a tad overpriced...Okay, so Honorable Mr. R. Venkataraman, former President of India, ate there (as their website states, in case you were wondering) but for reals...we're in the burbs and these are city prices. Complaints aside, I'll be back.

After a long trip downtown we came here with a group of 10 to get some Indian food. The place is very clean and has really nice decor. Service was slow but we had a large group so we didn't get too worked up about it. The curry and masala was outstanding, a good amount of spice. It was our first time having dosas and those were pretty tasty too. Overall portions and prices were okay and the food was great, not outstanding. There are other great Indian restaurants in the area that are better hence the 3 stars.

Went to celebrate Fathers Day with family. We ordered a variety of appetizers, from the vegetable platter to paneer wraps, idlys and more. Dinner included a variety of sodas and some Punjabi food. Food in general was mediocre and not properly cooked. Sambars were very bland. Service, like most Indian restaurants, was disorganized and slow. Won't be going back till I know things have improved.

  • Shreenidhi B.

I had the lunch buffet here..! The food was bad.. Never again. Only decent option there was the mini dosas. Apart from that everything was below par. Idlis were hard, sambar was more like water, and the deserts were really really bad. I'm a vegetarian so I don't vouch for the non veg options. I strongly recommend people not to try out this place (least of all the buffet)

So i'd been here about 4 years ago and liked their lunch buffet. Went back for my birthday 2 years ago and had mixed feelings. Went here 2 nights ago by chance, as I was in the area and craving sambhar, and made some surprising realizations. This place is actually, contrary to all rules, better for NORTH INDIAN food than South Indian! We had really good chana bhatura here, but the dosa and uthappam were both disappointing! They had decent chutney and sambhar, but the Devon branch scores much higher on the south indian food scale! The idli was actually not bad but the raita was really good too!

  • Apara W.

Taking 2 stars off, had hair in my food today. Ew - it is NEVER ok to have that! When I mentioned that to the manager, he took off $2.45 from the total check and wasnt even apologetic. I will think twice before going there.

I absolutely love this place. For me this is the best Indian restaurant in Schaumburg I have multiple time brought friends and family. I brought my cousin from Colombian in with two of my friends and they LOVED it.. The food is always so flavorful and wonderful, the staff amazing there is not one bad thing I have to say about this restaurant. Thank you to you guys for amazing food and amazing service. Sammy

Very average food. We tried the buffet and it was just too sour even for a south Indian place. Plus point is the attitude, staff manners and restaurant cleanliness.

  • Premkumar S.

We went to this restaurant around 4 pm and ordered Idli and rava dosa. The taste was awful and the Idli was not freshly prepared. When we asked about it they were very cool saying 'it was prepared in the morning'. There is no value for money here. Idli is one of the safe option to order in any South Indian restaurant and it was a pure injustice to the food.

Went with a bunch of friends here. I didn't have any food but those guys got vegetarian sampler and vegetarian thali and I got badam halwa - which was good :). Good service thought !!

The wonderful & always polite Mr. Ram is gone, & without his management, the food & service have declined sharply. The owners are not vegetarian & either is the restaurant ( their other locations, in MD & Chicago, which I have been to, are pure vegetarian ). The employees are treated very poorly, often right in front of the customer, & if you happen to meet the owners, they are very unfriendly. The food was really good years ago, but I can no longer make that statement.

After my favorite Indian restaurant sadly went out of business I've been hauling all over Schaumburg and Hoffman to try and find a replacement. Of the 7 restaurants I've found so far, Udupi hands down has the best food. Food is well prepared, spiciness can be adjusted properly, great quality, and honestly quite exceptional naan. Table service seems about average, which is on par with pretty much every other Indian restaurant in the area. A bit aloof but certainly accommodating if you need something. My only complaint is that the atmosphere is really quite bad. Old style diner look, with fake palm trees and a badly oversized waiting area. That aside though, if you go out to eat just for the food, this one definitely fits the bill there.

  • Vi N.

Well lit and attentive staff. Food is bland. Dosa is ok but idli is no good. Watch out - they charge 20% gratuity on buffet lunch - the only buffet place I have seen that does it. I would have give them a tip anyway because of the staff. The manager said they have been adding gratuity for 9 years - well, we will be back after 9 years then. There are much better Indian restaurants in the area. Give this a miss.

The only place that could be more worse than this one is India House Restaurant, Loves Park, IL. Oh wait, these both are gonna have a tie! Who wants to go out on a Saturday noon with a big appetite and finally end up choosing just between potato and chicken curry, which by the way, taste the same!(Yes, I am referring to the Buffet.) And NO, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

I don't even feel like to give one star, but no choice. Me and my friend entered into this Udipi at 1:15 pm on 6/29 for Buffet. Service was horrible and the manager himself has no sense, after few minutes at 1:30 pm, he came to us and told in 10 minutes buffet is going to close, then they taken away all food. They don't have sense at all, such a shameless bastards. But they gave bill for big amount. They can tell buffet is getting closed to on coming customers not who already get seated and having food. Also they didn't wash glasses and plates well, noticed some bad smell. On Buffet table, they have about 5 to 7 subji's\Gravy's but all of them with lot of greasy and oily dishes, they use very cheap quality butter,Oils and spices, which is very bad for health. Keep aside taste of the gravy, they don't even cook rice well, its half boiled. PLEASE EXCLUDE THIS RESTAURANT FROM YOUR CHOICES !!!!

Bad Weekend Service. The sambhar less than optimal, a little salt would be good. The appetizers and entree came together and then the dosa comes 10mins later. I know things get busy but food quality and service shouldnt be the victim.

  • Isnam M.

If you would like an authentic (or close to authentic) taste, do not come here! The price here is not worth the taste. Not only is the taste not spicy, the price is high and the service is very nonchalant. The last time we went here, there was no one and even then the service was slow. There are plenty of better options for north Indian food for less the price. We ordered rasam, and it seemed like they just bought rasam powder and mixed it with powder. It was bland. The chutney was very watery.

The food is great. The Dosai variety is large and they all are good. There are a number of vegetarian dishes but I am unsure if they use organic ingredients. The service could be better if the staff receives training about American restaurant etiquette. Changing the silverware between courses could help. Picking up the dirty dishes from the appetizers so the table can be prepared for the next course might also help. Asking before removing items that you may still be working on may also help. The dishes should come with naan bread (as an option instead of Rice). It is hard to ask a question because you don't know if the staff understands or not so be prepared for language barrier issues. I am an immigrant myself so I know how hard this can be. It is well worth a visit if you like Indian food. It is also hard finding Southern Indian food in the Chicago area.

  • A C.

Very poor service. The items are listed on the menu; however, when placed order waiter claimed they don't offer that dish. It was for four different dishes that were on the menu. The server was polite, and its not the server's fault. When asked for manager, the manager did not show any courtesy to come and speak to the customer, instead I was told the manager is very busy. The wait for food was very long, almost an hour and still the whole order did not arrive. If I knew I would get that kind of service, I would rather have taken my business elsewhere. I would definitely not go there again unless the management changes. I would not recommend anyone to waste their valuable time and money for this kind of experience; instead, take your business somewhere else who would appreciate and serve you better.

I was hoping to get nice south Indian food on Sunday afternoon but all they had was greasy n oily dishes, even the plain rice had lot of oil in it. What they called jalfrezi was just mixed vegetables made out of a frozen veggie packets. I'm from Mumbai, India and know a thing or two about Indian cuisine, this is not the best..

The main thing worth mentioning about this place is the decor. Above and beyond! (Well, for a suburban Indian restaurant. I went to a place in Vegas that was beautiful to the point of being sultry and romantic). There was something about the warm lighting emanating from the large glass storefront that gave it a classy feel. The food was decent (though--note to self: the veg samosas are too spicy for you!). My main complaint was they served a smaller amount of mango lassi than usual, and it had ice in it! Nothing's more sad than watery mango lassi. I think it was $4+ too. Also, after the waiter took our order he asked if he should also bring us naan, in a manner that made us think it was included in the dinner price. It wasn't.

  • Pradeep R.

A very weird concept where an Udipi -usually such restaurants are purely vegetarian is serving Chicken curry and another item (don't remember which one). The food is just mediocre and does not deserve more than 2 stars. I would not recommend this place at all.

What a pleasure to visit a restaurant where they know how to treat a guest. My son chose Udupi Palace in Schaumburg to dine for his 23rd birthday. I'm somewhat new to Indian Food and learned that Udupi foods are vegetarian. But, Udupi Palace offers some for those of us who are carnivores. But, even with the interesting and mysterious meat offerings, we all chose vegetarian dinners. The portions are very large, and come on large plates, so we chose to eat family style. We tasted some of everyone's dinner. I had what amounted to a large rice and wheat flower pancake with onions, potatoes and green chilis. This was quite hot and not for the faint of heart. My wife had an Indian crepe stuffed with potatoes. It was enormous - close to a foot long. Both kids had curries - Jon had chick pea and Sarah had their vegetarian curry. The food was really good. Having a food allergy, I always special order and this can cause poor service. This was not the case here. The manager, an older gentleman (and I use the word gentleman properly) helped immensely. He pointed out what I could and could not have, and offered to make some of the other dishes in ways I could eat them. It was truly service with a smile and we will most certainly return. Oh, this was my third visit.

I am not giving it more than one star. I had heard a lot about this "good place" , so I thought of trying it out with some friends. I did not see one single reason to like this place. Dosas were good I must say but apart from that nothing works, why keep such an elaborate menu if you can't manage the quality. None of the curries tasted as they should be, I have eaten way better Indian in Schaumburg for an equal price. The steel bowl to be used for sambhar were not even clean. The rice they served wasn't cooked had to ask them to replace. The vada was like made in stale oil or something. I would suggest not try North Indian dishes over here, thats their weakness I guess, they don't know what Tandoori chicken looks like. A lamb curry that was kind of sweet. I am not happy with what I paid for, if you are charging like mainstream restaurants keep the food and service like one.

This place is now my all time favorite outside of India. I am a bit surprised by some other reviewers. Here is an objective follow up review, but before I do the review, I am a North Indian and pretty good cook ourselves and we love South Indian spices and foods. I have also dined Indian food in Europe and in many states within the US and also at most coveted Indian restaurants like Bukhara in New Delhi (ranked #1 in the world for Indian food) I rate a restaurant based on 3 main things: Cleanliness, service and food. Cleanliness: I have always found the restaurant to be clean, washrooms are clean, plates and cutlery all to be clean. They have the cleanest kitchen I have seen, it is very easily viewable. Service: By service I mean more of the feeling of being welcomed, a warm reception. if there is a delay in getting something, that is just fine by us, but we have to feel comfortable and this is the place we feel at our best. The wait staff and the manager are quiet, composed, and the manager is the coolest dude you will ever meet at a restaurant managing the place. Food: I have had weekend buffets and also dined A la Carte many times. What I love about their buffet is that they do not have 250 things in the Buffet, they have daal, spninach, veggy, noodles, rice, naan, and then the non vegetarian stuff. They also have the yummiest Idli ever and almost perfect Vada I have ever had, and I am comparing the Idlis I have eaten in Madras Cafe in New Delhi (a landmark in south Indian foods in its time). And each one of these is very well done, the spinach I had 2 weeks ago (2nd Saturday of November I think), oh goodness, phenomenal and I am a punjabi who grew up around fields of fresh spinach and Mustard and I have a very high bar when it comes to Saag/Spinach dishes. A La Carte is even better quality than the Buffet, the Poori are the very best. I have not had too many dosas here for some reason. And now for the most important thing - The after taste of the Indian food here is awesome, I have never felt bloated or even heavy. This is probably one of the main reason, I keep coming back here, and to give ourselves a change, we go to other places and the only thing we discuss in that other restaurant is how much Udupi is better than what we are eating at that other place.

Great restaurant. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Good was really good, dosa was nice and crispy, naan were hot and fresh and my favorite was the Lamb biryani. Even though the lamb was a bit tough, the dish had great flavor. Will definitely go back!!

My lady friend has a crepe fetish, which led us to try Indian crepes. We started with Iddly for an appetizer and then I ordered the Masala Dosai and she had the Spinach dosai. The appetizers and entrees came with the sambar and coconut chutney. The food was average. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't recommend it. We had a real problem with the service at this restaurant. Several waiters and servers came to our table throughout our meal. They all asked me "how is the food sir" or "do you need anything else, sir," however they ignored my lady friend. Only right before we were done did the waiter even acknowledge presence. We have never been to a restaurant where she was almost completely ignored. The food was average, and the service offensive. Also, they should play some sort of music because the place was eerily quiet for duration of our meal. We could hear conversations taking place in the kitchen. It was a lame experience, and we will not return.

I loved this place! Great prices, great service and amazing Indian food! There were a lot of Indian American locals eating there as well... to me that in itself says the food's good. Udupi is a vegetarian focused restaurant, but has a good selection of beef, chicken, lamb and seafood meals as well. Myself coming from a large family with a wide verity of tastes for food, everyone will be happy coming here. I would be happy to eat here everyday!

I eat at Udipi restaurants all over the country and have never been disappointed. This one was certainly no exception. I had the Royal Maysore Thali so I was able to try a dozen or so of their menu items. It was unusual in that they had meat dishes on the last page of their menu and Udipi is typically vegetarian. The service is excellent. They might consider some Indian music. This is a must visit if you like this cuisine.

Was in the mood for dosa and our normal place was closed so we came here instead. The place was pretty much empty expect for 1 other table. For appetizers we order the medhu vada and lamb kabobs and for dinner we all got dosas, a paper dosa, onion rava masala dosa, palak dosa and a rava masala dosa. The medhu vada was ok...not very flavorful. The lamb kabobs were actually good. The dosas were just bad. The paper dosa was cold and soggy....there was nothing paper about it. The onion rava masala dosa and rava masala dosa were ok. The palak dosa was not what we expected. It was soggy from the palak paste the slathered on the inside and it was really spicy. The sambhar was not good either, extremely watery. I used to enjoy coming to Udapi Palace for dosas. Not sure what happened. Such a shame.

  • Pranay N.

    (1)
  • Hemlock F.

They have a special on dosas... 4$ for plain dosa and 5$ for masala. So grab a dosa next time instead of a Subway footlong... prices of other dishes are also reasonable, especially the South Indian tiffins like idli, vada and utappam. It's usually always crowded, so I am guessing people like it and come back. We will go back for sure.

This place has some great Indian food. The menu is strictly vegetarian. Its very flavorful with lots of great spices. I always go here and have the dosa. The dosa is an amazing combination of bread, sauces, spices. It is a great place to go to get some authentic Indian food.

    (1)

Great food, consistent quality. Never been disappointed. Weekend buffers are great. This is not the place however if you are looking for over the top spicy food.

It wasn't.

A very weird concept where an Udipi -usually such restaurants are purely vegetarian is serving Chicken curry and another item (don't remember which one). The food is just mediocre and does not deserve more than 2 stars. I would not recommend this place at all.

Very average food. We tried the buffet and it was just too sour even for a south Indian place. Plus point is the attitude, staff manners and restaurant cleanliness.

Taking 2 stars off, had hair in my food today. Ew - it is NEVER ok to have that! When I mentioned that to the manager, he took off $2.45 from the total check and wasnt even apologetic. I will think twice before going there.

I've been to Udupi 4 or 5 times in the past and the food is very consistently good. Unfortunately service is a bit slow, but this could have been an isolated problem.
