I finally went here after passing it in a million times and wondering how it was. There is a lot of parking and even a couple tables inside if you want to sit and eat your pastries. When I walked in, I was surprised how big and how many choices I had in front of me. My mission was donuts but so many things caught my eye. I will absolutely be back to try more goodies. Their chocolate long john is amazing! The frosting is decadent and the donut itself is sooooo good! Best of my donut bunch for sure! I will definitely get it again. the others were just okay and I'll tell you why, I'm sure it's just a matter of preference though. Both cake donuts were slightly bigger then other donuts and just didn't have enough frosting on them for me. I got a chocolate on chocolate and the flavor was all spot on but had to cut off some of the cake part as it was just too much compared the amount of frosting. It was the same for my sprinkle cake donut, plus the cake was ever so slightly dry on both. Nothing that stopped me from enjoying them. But for $1.09 each I would hope they would be fantastic! Either way, the long john was fantastic and I will definitely get that again! I didn't see any signs about deals when you get a dozen of the donuts, sad. I looked over everything else in the shop and decided on a cupcake for myself, plus bought one for my friend. The cupcake was just $1.39 which is super cheap in the land of cupcake popup stores! The one I got for my friend was $1.79 which is still very cheap for a red velvet cupcake! Both were absolutely beautifully decorated. The chocolate frosting on my cupcake was sugary, thick, packed with decadence they way I love my cupcake frosting. Tons of frosting on top! Love it! The cake was super moist and the cupcake just tasted delicious! Much better then many places I have tried in the city and the price is just amazing! The cupcakes get like a billion stars from me!!!! I wish I could give Deerfield 5 stars but some of the donuts were eh. Those cupcakes though! Amazing!!! I'll be taking some friends next time I go!

I went in at 9:30am on Thurs. Sept. 18 to buy a variety of seasonal pastries for a family brunch. The fresh assortment was excellent - from iced pumpkin muffins to apple cider donuts. I even bought some fall leaf sugar cookies because they were frosted so beautifully in a blend of fall colors. The customer service was great - 2 friendly employees greeted me and offered help. I had hoped for some tiramisu slices, but they were none available - only a frozen cake, which was too large for our occasion. The only thing that was bothersome to me was that a couple pesty bees were flying in and around the pastries on the open shelves. I've noticed that flies and bees in the bakery have been an ongoing problem. I believe customers would feel better about their food being in enclosed cases, similar to how Jewel stores their bagels and donuts. If there are sliding glass doors, customers can still easily serve themselves. I suggest that the owners consider this type of store improvement - it'd be more appealing and hygienic.

Got a torte from here (yellow cake + strawberry + banana cream). it was amazing, fresh whipped cream, not too sweet, yummy banana cream, and huge strawberries. Nothing to complain. 7'inch for $25! I'll definitely go back again to try more stuffs

We were not greeted when we walked in. We were yelled to from across the bakery and asked if we needed help. Once we made up our mind we waited by the cupcake counter for a while before we were helped after that. NOT ONE EMPLOYEE WAS SMILING. The cashier had an attitude. Pastries were good, a little overpriced. No sense of hospitality whatsoever. It was an awkward visit.

Coffee cakes picked up on a Saturday morning for a Sunday dinner. Next time I'll buy the morning of....it would taste fresher. So many more different items to choose from. Till next time! Friendly attentive service too.

I can't believe I'm not giving them 5 stars but I'll get to that in a moment. DO NOT go in to this place if you are on a diet of any kind unless you want to fall very fast & hard off the wagon. And certainly don't bring someone with a gluten sensitivity in here. That's just cruel. Oh so many treats to wonder over. Gorgeous cut-out cookies perfectly iced. Cakes which look to beautiful to eat. Giant muffins. Coffee cakes to drool over. A Red Velvet Donut MOUNDED with Cream Cheese Frosting. Perfect little bakery cookies & tarts. They even have deals on the day old coffee cakes which have somehow, amazingly, not sold the day before. Perusing their website might be safer. The website is helpful if you need to order custom cookies or cakes. I had a Spaghetti Western themed surprise birthday party for my husband this year and they came through with some great Boot & Cowboy Hat iced cookies. When my husband graduated from college his Mom ordered an AMAZING custom cake with a Spiderman theme, complete with a sugar high-rise Spiderman was swooping down from. They are VERY talented bakers & decorators here. Okay, okay...so why not 5 stars? Well...it's SOME of their cakes and frosting. Perhaps it's because I myself decorate cakes as a hobby so I've had a LOT of chances to sample cakes and different frostings. I find their regular cakes a tad dry and the regular frosting just "blah". BUT I have had some of their more specialty cakes, with various fillings and other frostings and they were VERY GOOD.

Ordered a wedding cake for our son's reception by phone as we live out-of-state - had a wonderful woman who walked through the entire process with me and ensured I had no unanswered questions. The cake was delivered to the restaurant on time on the day of the wedding and was not only beautiful but delicious as well - thanks Deerfields!

Dear Deerfield Bakers, You have me hooked here, with the amazing coffee cakes and cupcakes and the wonderful service. I came back again (for more mini cupcakes) for a bday party and I once again was happy that Jackie was there who is so very friendly and engaging. She makes me feel like I'm part of the Deerfield family!! I think I'm there weekly now. I also want to mention the great service that Carol provided, she is also very friendly and professional and really knows her stuff. Honestly, the cupcakes and cookies are the best and I love your gluten free lemon cookies by the way but the service of your staff and specifically now with my favorite night shift of the Jackie and Carol team, this is what keeps me coming back. I take the train downtown and I could easily buy cupcakes in the city, but I choose to come here to drag boxes of cupcakes or cakes to the city on the very jam packed metra because I will not go anywhere else. Thanks for the great service and the delicious cakes, I love your decorations on the mini cupcakes and I did have to buy the dog treats you have up front (my husky loves them) which means I will be back soon. Folks, please try Deerfield's before you go anywhere else and you will be hooked too! I have another order in for pick up on black Friday for work :) FYI: I have tried the tiramisu cake, chocolate and lemon gluten free cookies and the apricot coffee cake, everything was delicious and I get requests from my co-workers to bring the coffee cake again. Happy Holidays! -Carmela

I'm not much of a bakery fan as I have mostly given up on bread and I'm not sweet on sweets but Deerfield seems to be a decent place to pick up nice cakes for a special occasion or a cupcake to satisfy a craving. I tried a asiago cheese bagel and my wife tried some sort of cream cheese cupcake and we both enjoyed our items. It was nice to walk around in a clean, classy looking shop while checking out the artistic talent on some of the cakes and pastries then being able to toast my bagel and eat it at a table right there. Staff was friendly and we were greeted promptly, an absolutely necessary attitude for family owned businesses. Although I don't frequent bakeries, it is very nice to know that a very nice one is right down the road from me just in case I need something.

The smell of this place is what I want heaven to smell like. I don't know how I resisted, and I actually do regret not buying one of everything in the place, but I was only going in to get a cherry pie for my dad for his birthday. The wall of donuts had me drooling. I probably spent a good 5 minutes oogling the donuts alone, and didnt even buy one. :( I will be back, to try donuts, and their sourdough rye bread (a fav of mine).

Deerfield's has saved me on a couple of occasions. It's definitely the go to spot when you have the need for something unique, or just a cupcake or donut for a snack ;-) On two occasions I've made specials requests and Deerfield's was happy to take them on. One request was for a 4-layer cake with 3 fillings. The second for a half-dozen bacon donuts. When calling in the order the service is very friendly and helpful. The downside is, you should call a few days in advance. I figured 24-36 hours would be enough time to whip up a small cake or 6 donuts, but apparently not. As a diabetic, I don't frequent bakery and pastry shops often. As much as I love a red velvet cupcake or a glazed donut, my pancreas will kick my ass and I'll regret indulging in the sugary goods. However, I have tasted everything I've purchased through Deerfield's, and I've never been disappointed. I'm not sure I will go anywhere else for specialty items, cupcakes or cakes. Deerfield's has always provided exceptional services and customer service. It's just too bad they don't offer anything my dysfunctional pancreas will enjoy.

Been a frequent customer of Deerfield's over the years and have had it all here - pastries, cookies, breads, cupcakes, and cakes including specialty and custom-made. What I love about Deerfield's is that they are convenient and consistent. What I kind of miss is that they used to have that 'neighborhood' bakery feel to them, but now feel more commercial, but I guess that's to be expected with their popularity. I've been to their Deerfield location many times as well and I don't know why, they still have the 'homey' feel there. Anyways, you know you'll always get good quality, fresh, and delicious goods at Deerfield's Schaumburg. Cookies/Cakes can be specially designed and on any given day there is a variety of different (sugar) cookie designs, usually in line with the season, holidays, and special occasions (graduation, Hawks in the playoffs(!)). I've found that baked goods are still fresh days after purchase. I've ordered specialty cakes (birthday, bachelorette, retirement) many times in the past and they have a myriad of designs you can choose from (and conveniently browse through online), or you can ask them to custom design if you already had something in mind. Last year, my coworker thought of a cute design for cupcakes for another coworker's baby shower, and Deerfield's now carries that design as a standard one. Leftover cake stores well in the fridge or freezer to be eaten later (and still moist even a month later!). We stopped in last weekend for a light breakfast. They have a small (2 tables) seating area in the bakery and it was nice to have a seat and enjoy our pastries on the spot. The Deer Joe coffee is really good and they have different syrup available right at the counter so that you can flavor to taste. It can get pricey here, but comparable to other gourmet bakeries. Parking can get tight on busy days, and it's in a busy area on Schaumburg/Roselle roads.

We go to Deerfields in Schaumburg every weekend. Wonderful displays - great bread - Items change for the season. The staff is wonderful. We love it!!!!

It's been a while since I visited Deerfields as I'm no longer working in that area. But now that a family doctor has office hours close by and by the recent positive experiences, I know I'll be back for more delectable treats. When you walk in, the aroma of freshly baked goods hits you in the face and then you're met with shelves of coffee cakes and donuts and pastry cases of cupcakes, cakes and petit fours and more. You can pick and choose self-serve style your coffee cakes/doughnuts/sugar cookies/muffins as the pastry boxes/bags are right there for you to wrap up your goods. I loved the donuts--plain and cinnamon sugar. Fresh and fluffy--not greasy or heavy at all. I also bought some pretty cupcakes from the pastry case home to share--Lemonaide, Red Velvet, Vanilla and Chocolate. I loved the Lemondaide cupcake--burst of bright yellow cake with a nice tart lemony flavor topped with sweet icing. The Red Velvet was also very good--I found the cake part a little dense but still tasty and the cream cheese frosting--while there was a lot of it--was nice and creamy. Friendly and helpful staff. Easy parking and the bakery is super clean and tidy. There's a table and small counter seating if you want to take a break and enjoy your treats and coffee on site. There's also a cooler with cream cheese/soda/flavored waters to complete your yummy snack purchase. I only wish they posted their prices next to the self-serve items. If there was some price signage, I totally missed it.

UM CAN YOU SAY RED VELVET DOUGHNUTS? they are RED and deeeelicous. this is the only place i know of in the area that has red velvet doughnuts, must be eaten with milk. everything else in the bakery looks good and my mom said coworkers always bring in goodies from there i may just go back for red velvety goodness

I am specifically reviewing Deerfield's gluten-free selection since that is the only section I personally have experience with. I was so excited about this place when I first learned of it. Oh well. I was disappointed to find that ALL of the options are kept in the freezer which sort of ruins the whole fresh baked goods feel. I might have gotten past the idea of the freezer, but the prices were really steep, particularly considering the size of portions which were generally skimpy. Last I checked, Whole Foods was selling a number of their items plus even more (and IMO better) options like Udi, Against the Grain, and more. Additionally, my experience with Whole Foods customer service at the Schaumburg location has been better than my experiences at Deerfield's. I hear this place is great for those who can eat wheat/gluten but I don't plan to go back for the GF goods even though I live pretty near to them. I find the prices/portions at Fruitful Yield or Whole Foods to be a better fit for me.

I LOVE THIS BAKERY! It was my Grandma's favorite bakery, and now I know why!! I ordered my husband's 30th birthday cake from them. I used the "contact form" online and I had attached the picture of what I wanted on the cake and asked them to contact me. It says online that it will take two days. Within the HOUR someone had contacted me with not only my order, but pricing for the cake. She was polite, courteous, and funny. Her customer service skills were awesome!! I could have talked on the phone with her all day! The cake was an Angry Birds cake, and it came out beautifully. Not only that, but it tasted AMAZING. Which is kind of the point of the cake, I guess, right?? A+++++ for Deerfields!!

As I was driving down Roselle Road, I got the sudden craving for a cupcake and BEHOLD! Deerfield's sign came into view like a beacon in the night (or the day, whatev)...I instantly veered across the traffic (sorry people, cupcakes supercede courteous driving) and pulled into the lot. I've never been to Deerfield's before, and I was immediately impressed. The place is layed out so you have to walk around and see all the goods they have to offer. It's full of pure, unadulterated, baked goodness. As tempted as I was to buy an entire cake for myself (what? they were beautiful!) I ended up getting the cupcake I came for and some doggie treats as well. Nice touch, Deerfield's. They also have a little coffee center and a small cooler filled with iced teas, sodas, and waters. Back to the cupcake...it was really good. The cake was perfect and the icing was thick and sugary perfection. I wasn't a fan of all the sprinkles, mostly because they kept falling off and ending up squished between my butt and the seat of my car whilst I ate like a pig in the parking lot. (I told you I wanted that cupcake and I wanted it NOW!). The only thing I wish is that there were more to choose from or some fancier varieties with fillings. (They only had white/white and red velvet) Overall, I'd say that this place is a winner. If you are looking for a ton of different cupcakes to choose from, you may want to pass, but if you are looking for fancy baked goods of all varieties, this is your place. It looks like I'll be coming back to get that elusive cake and maybe try a donut or two (or twelve). See you soon, Deerfield's.

The one cake I've had at this place is the Queen Elizabeth which is to DIE for. The cake they say serves 6-10 people will probably serve closer to 10-12 people. It's HUGE. Not only that, it comes with a dab of banana cream, fresh banana, fresh strawberries, and a cake that just compliments everything so well. It doesn't taste too rich or too creamy at any point. My only gripe about it is they have a lot of whipped cream on it. I might ask for less of that next time. They also will write whatever you want onto the cake. The Schaumburg location seems fairly big, maybe a 40 yard by 30 yard room filled with cakes, donuts, and other desserts and breads and sandwiches. I've never been to the one in Deerfield so I don't have a good comparison but after talking with the kind server, she told me the best selling cake is the Queen Elizabeth. I tried to squeeze out of her what might be some other cakes but the Queen Elizabeth was so good I forgot what else she said! I can't wait for another party to serve another Queen Elizabeth!!

My company tends to always order from Deerfield and it's no wonder why. Everything (yes, everything) is delicious! From the paczkis, cupcakes and cakes I can't get enough. My coworker ordered a bday cake for me from here today and it tasted like pound cake. I mean so moist and dense I felt like I was in diabetic heaven. The frosting is sweet and the best. I could spoon it in my mouth by the tub if that was appropriate. Can't wait to go for more goodies!

Best Bakery around! If you have not tried out Deerfields Bakery, you need to make this a top priority in 2013. They have the BEST sweets in town! This is a FIVE generation family owned business and they know how to do it right. From the customer service, to the creative designers, to the freshly baked goods -- no reason to go anywhere else. I hosted a bridal shower this spring and had the bakery make customized cupcakes and a GLUTEN free cake for the bride. I sent in a photo of the mardi gras masks from the invites and they were able to match it perfectly on both the cake and cupcakes. They make things VERY easy for you when doing special orders and are ALWAYS ready on time. Very important when you have a million other things on your plate!! Highly suggest to anyone.

I've been here several times over the years and with my most recent paczki experience, I can definitely support coming here. The paczkis here are definitely some of the best. They are heartily filled and not just with cream but real fruit and they have a wide variety of them. Cut one in half and you'll see how thin the dough is. Get one before they're gone! The regular doughnuts, pastries, and cakes here are very good. There's individually sized wax paper to grab each pastry to put into a container. They also have a small section for yesterday's coffee cake in case you're looking for a sale. They take care of people's needs with a gluten free section as well as a refrigerated section for small desserts and truffles. They have their own house coffees which are good. Just a note that they have no seating, so if you are just getting a pastry and coffee (or pre-made sandwich), you'll have to enjoy it elsewhere. My issues with them are minor. Getting in and out of their parking lot isn't easy. You can't leave onto Roselle Road and going through the back roads doesn't put you on to Schaumburg Road that easily either. The other thing was that their chocolate chip cookies aren't that good. They're $2.99 for 6 and quite tiny.

Deerfield's is probably my favorite bakery around. I love how they always have samples, everyone is very knowledgeable that works there, and everything tastes SO good! I've had everything from their cakes to doughnuts to breads, and everything is amazing! The little lemon daisy fondant cakes are my favorite! I could eat those until I felt sick. Their coffee is also very good, and fair trade! This location has a few tables and seats so you can sit a relax for a while. It's a great place to come for a yummy treat!

I need a bigger word than LOVE to describe how I feel about this place. This is the only place I will eat donuts; they are magical. As a child we got our donuts here and as an adult in my 30's, I continue that tradition with my own kids. It's rare to find a place that serves products that taste the same as they did 30 years ago; still as delicious, same high quality. Our wedding cake was from here and 7 years later, I still dream of it. Raspberry and chocolate pudding were our two layers. It was as beautiful as it was delicious! I got my husband's grooms cake from here as well, decorated with a snowmobile per my specifications. He loved it! I've sent all my donut loving, cake loving friends here and I've yet to hear a complaint! For the love of God, get yourself to Deerfield's Bakery!

I want to update my review to three and half stars, but Yelp won't allow that, so I'm leaving it at three stars. I received an email explaining the series of events that occurred on the day of delivery, and it doesn't seem like it was anyone's fault and they genuinely made an effort, it was just a tricky situation. It was a cumbersome process but appreciated the companies time to email me back, and the cake got great reviews by those who ate it!

I would give this place 5 stars, but since nothing is labeled and you have to ask someone or guess what you are purchasing I will go with 4. I went here for the first time on Paczki day and got 2 strawberry paczkis which were totally awesome my hubby and I loved them. Went in again the following Saturday with my husband, and we got a cherry turnover (awesome), a banana nut muffin (yummy), and some sort of chocolate cake looking thing which was supposed to be turtle but since the caramel cooks into the cake it wasn't very turtley and more just chocolate (ok). This place is such a cool set up and neither my husband or I have been to anything quite like it. We will definitely be back.

Dear Deerfields Bakery, I recently came in to your bakery and placed an order for a birthday cake for May 26th, and right after that I called in about twice to make a few minor changes each time. I must say, your staff was extremely patient and helpful! Didn't expect that at all! Bakers are generally known to get annoyed when somebody wants to make changes in their order. I am so glad I chose Deerfields Bakery! I love you guys, and have been a fan of yours for the last three years! This is the first time I placed an order for a cake though. I hope all the hassle is well worth it! :) This cake is for someone very special in my life, and it's the first time I'm throwing a surprise party for him. I know I'm at the right place to add that extra oomph to the party, and I know you will make me proud! Love, Your avid fan, Palak Order number: 1522075

I just learned of Deerfield Bakery about 3 or 4 months ago. It's right down the street from where we live, and I have driven past it a million times without even knowing it was there. I was online one day looking for a good bakery to get a cake from that was close to my home for my birthday party and learned about Deerfield Bakery. We were up early on a Father's Day Sunday and I asked my boyfriend to check it out and get some treats for his dad we would see later that day along with something for me. He came home with some red velvet cup cakes, some doughnuts and some danishes for his dad who loves them! I enjoyed a red velvet cup cake with cream cheese icing that was light and yummy. We have gone a few more times to try out there other things. We have always been pleased. I decided to order my birthday cake from them in July and went with the red velvet because I became hooked on those cup cakes! The cake was beautiful. It was not really anywhere as good as the cup cakes though. I was a little disappointed in the cake itself. It was really heavy and after looking closer at the pictures of my cake after the party, I noticed it was not even squared off. It was even a little crooked. I was I little disappointed after spending 40-something dollars on a 1/4 sheet birthday cake. We'll be back, there is no question, but we probably will not be special ordering any more red velvet cakes from them any time soon. It's worth a visit and I do recommend it, but don't spend the money on the cakes if all you need is a simple cake.

So, just a little update to my recent visit to Deerfield Bakery. I've finally consumed all the paczki and the King Cake. NOT ALL BY MYSELF MIND YOU! ;) But, a review on the paczkis and the king cake in particular. The King Cake was SO GOOD! OMG! The cake has the consistency and flavor of a cinnamon bun/roll. I wouldn't doubt they use the same dough in their cinnamon buns. Suffice to say, I will make sure to get a King Cake next year too! :) Maybe a cinnamon roll or two when it isn't Fat Tuesday time. ;) The paczkis were good. The fillings were fresh and flavorful, but my only quip about it is that they really overfill the paczkis. I found myself having to squeeze out a good third of the fillings because it was too much filling. Regardless of that....it was very delicious! :9 Still, overfilled paczkis will not deter me from going to their Annual Paczki Day next year! :)

So this place is absolutely adorable and the treats are absolutely delicious but I CANNOT stand the people that work here. I came in to order my bridal shower and wedding cake..and both times..the bakers seemed to completely blow me off. They didnt care to take 5 mins to discuss options and made me feel like they were doing me a favor by talking to me. Dont waste your time on ordering a cake here..there are plenty of other good local bakers.

The donuts and birthday cakes are divine. In general, I would say most of them items are bakery quality and bakery taste. I've had a couple dry items before hence the 4 stars. I would recommend this bakery.

You guys exceeded our expectations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our wedding cake was by far the best one ever!!!!!!! the red velvet part was TO DIE FOR!!!!!! we went there with a picture of how we liked our cake to look like and they make it look even better than the picture. I do not have not even one negative thing to say about this place. (and it's not just based upon the wedding cake) when we picked up the sample we bought some cupcakes and bread. when we placed the order we bought bread and other cookies! just amazing. It took us a long time till we find Deerfield's but once we did we knew the wait was worth it. They deliver, a HUGE PLUS!!!!!! and considering today's market and economy they are by far one of the most reasonable priced bakeries we've came across We know that we will be going back there for any cakes that we will need from now on :) You Guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!

OMG! I have not reviewed this place?!?!?!?! I am so sorry Deerfield's! =[ This is hands down the best place to get a cake in the suburbs that I have found! And TRUST that I have tried most ALL of them! =] I mean, I pretty much love everything from there, the doughnuts, danishes, cookies (YUM), CAKES and my most recent discovery as of yesterday, the Oregon Herb bread. PHENOMENAL! That bread...mmmmm mmmm...it honestly tastes like veggie cream cheese in bread form and when you put some plain cream cheese on top...perfection! Their doughnuts are always super fresh and they even have a red velvet one with cream cheese frosting! It was just okay for me, but a lot of people think it's pretty amazeballs. The danish that Fred tried which was pecan cheese was the most tender and delicious danish I think I have ever tried! So good! And my favorites for the cookies by the pound are the checkered ones and the ones with the sprinkles on top...SO buttery and good with a little milk! =] Now to the cakes...Mmmm...that cake...SO moist and rich, honestly the best bakery cake. Really. My favorite flavors are the devil's food and the yellow, I always get a mix of both in my cakes I order. And we ALWAYS get the buttercream frosting which they can do amazing decorations with as well! But the flavor, is just perfect, and this coming from someone who does not even like frosting that much! If you are looking for a great bakery with some amazing cakes and cake decorations...Deerfield's is DEF your place! Get your fat on with Deery's!

I have tried many many bakeries. Everything from ma&pa sort of bakeries to the standard grocery store bakeries. None have ever come close to Deerfields in Schaumburg! I have used them for on the spot pastries which were always fresh & tasty. And have ordered birthday cakes as well and those were always to die for and super creative! Recently i went in and spoke to bakers in the Schaumburg location to recreate the top tier of my best friend's wedding cake we had at her wedding in Santorini, Greece -- filling and all! AND THEY DID! Here's where it got tricky. From the transport from bakery to car, the ENTIRE top layer slid off the banana lower layer! I was mortified but! i called right away and they reassured me i could bring it right in and they'd help me do whatever they could to make this special present a reality. Needless to say they recreated it on the spot and took care of it! I was so relieved and pleased with their service. I can't WAIT to have an excuse to use Deerfields again!

I am a donut fiend, always looking for my next high, and so one day after discovering the existence of Deerfield's I peeled myself away from County Donuts for a try. This stuff is rich. The red velvet donut with cream cheese frosting was like a personal cake made just for me. The glazed bacon donut takes a ride on the sweet & salty bandwagon and does it well. The gluten-free treats are pretty good too. And then of course I couldn't resist the endless cookies - also great, but donuts are the way to go. And every time I've gone they've had free samples, so I feel like I've eaten every item in the store (and gained every pound I could gain). Plus coffee!

For the suburbs, this is a solid bakery. They sell just about everything that can be made in an oven, including cakes, cookies, cupcakes, tarts, coffee cakes and bagels. You can get then a cup of coffee or some other bottled drink and sit down at one of their little tables with a plastic fork and enjoy your goodies. Most recently I had the banana cake and the red velvet cupcake. The cupcake had delicious, thick cream cheese frosting, but the banana cake was just meh - I couldn't taste the banana at all. Side note: that "special offer" on the top of the page re: the free cup of coffee isn't valid at this location... despite the fact that the owner specifically wrote it on the Yelp page FOR THE SCHAUMBURG LOCATION. Lastly, I wasn't really digging the employees - seemed like a bunch of bored Schaumburg High School girls who were never taught the meaning of customer service. But that's the burbs for ya.

I'm so surprised Deerfield doesn't have a 5-star rating here! The first time I walked in here, I felt like the place was full of magic! So many goodies. Pastries shaped like pretzels, but taste like sweet donuts! Loads of lemon sweets! A breakfast pizza! Pineapple Upside Down Cake! I'm in heaven. Try the day-old offerings too, they are just as good as the brand-new ones. Coffee is delicious. I wish more bakeries were like this!

I order birthday cakes here for my kids every year and they have yet to disappoint! I have tried other bakeries and they just do not compare. Deerfields is moist, delish and will keep you wanting more! I love that I have so many options to choose from cake wise, filling wise and design wise. You will not find a better place! their customer service is fantastic!

Awesome bakery!! Just went there within the month with my mom and daughter and their peach cupcake - yummayyy! The staff seems pretty friendly and I liked the complimentary coffee..very inviting. We picked up the Raspberry Royal for Mothers Day this past year annnd everyone loved it. For Thanksgiving, gonna see how the black forest is..Also, working at a local restaurant in the area, I've seen many cakes ordered from Deerfield Bakery and many are impressive! I loved the hot pink sparkly frosting I saw on one - very pretty! Great place so far!

I pickup cakes and pastries on special occasions from Deerfield bakery. While bakery items are very good, the people who work there are not friendly at all. Today, I wanted to get writing on the cake for on a birthday and few pastry items and they made feel like I was inconveniencing them. It's been basically the same experience each time I go there. I've been there during busy mornings and slow afternoons. Another person also reviewed that old lady there scares her. I feel the same way. She wasn't the person helping me today but she made some not so fiendly comment to me as she walked by. How about at least a little smile for the customers? I go in wanting to enjoy the experience of buying delicious pastries and leave feeling like "So rude. Why did I come here again?"

I bought cupcakes for dessert with my parents. I got the carrot cake and red velvet ones; the red velvet was amazing. I wanted to get a cake but they looked waaay too sugary and full of butter/lard/who knows what. Yes, I know, it's a bakery and I should expect such. But I could go for a simpler cake with much less frosting and fillings. Though I suppose I could be less lazy and order such a cake.

The service at Deerfield Bakery is fantastic. I got an Eclair and it was just so tasty--they have everything in there, from small to large cakes, ice cream cakes, donuts, pastries, drinks... A very inviting atmosphere. I wish we had a bakery like that in the DC Area!

I stopped in here just last week to check it out myself after having some of their baked goods at a function. MMMMM, my favorite is their custard filled donut, it is to die for! They have a great variety and are fairly priced for their goods, I would return. The only reason I gave only 4 stars is the service there was a little "meh". Not very friendly but not rude, not sure how to categorize it.

  • Melissa B.

Meh. Does the job when I need a sweet fix but nothing too special. Donuts are very average. Cookies dry. Apple strudel was pretty tasty heated up. I was grossed out by all the flies flying by the window over the donuts/muffins.

First experience with Deerfield's Bakery was at a recent Yelp! event at the Chevy Chase Golf Club. The chocolate truffles were sheer genius and the best of a well rounded group of local eateries in attendance. No further comment is necessary.

This 3 star review is solely for customer service. Tim, one of the owners, was actually nice enough to write me personally to address my issues with some of the baked goods I purchased a while back. To be fair to the bakery, I will give them a second chance, but this time with Tim's help as he offered to find out what my personal tastes were in order to suggest the items he felt would be more to my liking. If only more people cared about their customers, the way Tim does! Deerfield's I will be back, just be ready for my return.

Yummy!!! I live right by here and only came to this location a month or so ago... since then I am constantly craving their red velvet donut! Nothing makes me happier than browsing a bakery stocked full of sugary goodness to fill my belly with. In fact I'm pretty sure that eventually Deerfield will be solely responsible for pushing me over the edge into full-blown diabetes. I have loved every precious tidbit I've purchase here, including the lemon mousse cup. Yes, I agree, it's ridiculous that anyone would even think to make a dessert with lemon, but it was the only one left in the case and the chocolate cup was perfectly shaped like a tulip so I had to have it - and I was still delighted! The first time I went was closer to the summer and they had these cakes that looked like gigantic hamburgers with FUDGE filling! I am still kicking myself for not getting one, although maybe I'll console myself with a smaller personal treat... or two... or three.

Note to self: always visit bakeries in the morning. I visited this place on below recommendations. I was so craving a taste of the red velvet donut. The place itself is quaint with lovely decorated cakes. But, when I got there, it was mid-evening on Saturday. Most of the shelves were empty. There was one red velvet donut left but it was stale. I did like the petit fours though. Will try again earlier in the day.

I love their Cinnamon Raisin Bread, other items are a little too sweet for me but my husband likes them. We ordered our wedding cake from them and it was good. Today we came in to pick up a few things that we like. I saw a couple of flies! One was on the Custard bread and another was flying around. I flagged the staff to let them know, they were nonchalant about it and said the door was open and there is nothing they can do about it. This disgust me, so it will be my last time there.

Deerfield bakery is known for its very rich and delicious cakes but their donuts are awesome. Their donuts should make Dunkin Donuts want to go back to the recipe books. My favorite donuts are boston creme, coconut and jelly. The apple fritters, danishes and coffee rolls will have you wanting more. I am sick and tired of getting stale donuts from DD. Same price but not same quality. If you want to grab delicious, fresh donuts wait no further and go to Deerfield Bakery in Schaumburg.

Went here yesterday with friends after a long day at the pool and it was DELICIOUS! I have never been here before but I may start coming more often when I'm in the Schaumburg area. Great glazed, chocolate frosted and sugar frosted donuts! I only had 2 but definitely could've eaten more! Very fresh tasting and fluffy. A must go to bakery! YUMMMMMMMY!

I've been going to Deerfield Bakery for years now and am only now writing a review? Either way, they have a great selection of pastries, cookies, cakes and breads. I've had all of those from them before and have no complaints. You can tell their products are made from good quality ingredients and that they take pride in what they do. They also have a small station for coffee/drinks, so you can get your morning pastry & coffee fix if you need it. Ordering cakes from them is a breeze and they have a great selection of cake/filling/toppings to choose from. Let's not forget to mention.... I'm a HUGE fan of their loaf of buttercrust bread. Get it warm, and I could probably eat half a loaf with just pure butter. If you're looking to order a cake, or just get a good supply of bread or pastries, I'd highly recommend any Deerfield Bakery location.

Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways! I've been going to Deerfield's for many years - I grew up on it. So, when I needed a cake made for a special occasion they were of course my first choice. And it was a good choice! Oh, and if you're a fan of butter cream - I mean ultra gritty, super sweet butter cream - like I am get your next cake from Deerfield's. They have one of the best butter cream icings I've ever had. Cake isn't the only thing I've had from Deerfield's - they sugar cookies are yummy as well. The staff is friendly and accommodating. At the end of the day, I can't think of one reason not to recommend Deerfield's Bakery.

I grew up eating cookies and cupcakes from the original Deerfield bakery in Deerfield. I was super excited when I discovered there was a DB in my new neighborhood. I raved and raved about it to my husband until I finally convinced him it's the best bakery ever and made him (yes, it involved coercion) take me there one Saturday. I was SO disappointed! They had a very limited selection, everything looked like it had been sitting out for a week, and one of the employees was spraying Windex on the open plexiglass cookie containers to clean them and getting the chemicals ALL OVER all the cookies! My husband and I both were completely perplexed about that - but I still wanted my d@mn cookie, so I tried to find a few that had spent the least amount of time under the Windex. It was ok, but nothing like the ones I remember from my childhood. It tasted a bit stale, and the icing was dry and crumbly. Ick.

I had to come back and update my review. I went back to Deerfield Bakery and had them bake a cake and have it delivered. Last minute, I called them and asked if they can change the delivery location (from Paletine to Schaumburg) I agreed to pay the extra cost. However, I was surprised and extremely pleased to get a call back saying that they will deliver it to the new location (even though they were near the 1st location) and to top it all off they did not charge me. I am big on customer service and that meant a lot to me. Thank you so much. I also want to add that they actually stay on the phone with you patiently as you try to select the ingredients/toppings for your cake.

Brownies, get the brownies. They have some other good stuff like cakes, cookies, and pastries, but I am there for the brownies. When I was 10 I didn't want a cake I just wanted brownies for my birthday from here and they were amazing. Recommendation: For anyone with a sweet tooth and in the neighborhood.

I've come into Deerfield's on various occassions. We go each year so my daughter can get a cupcake for her bday. We've also bought the day old coffee cakes that were great. I was blown away, however, by the red velvet cake I ordered for a baby shower. To.Die.For If they were cheaper, I'd go more often! : )

The NW suburbs truly lack for good bakeries. I can think of two to three bakeries that I have been in - Deerfields is one of them. They have great donuts, good coffee cakes, good cakes but are pricey. The smaller cakes out oif the case, tend to be better than special order. I don't know why, but it always seems that way.

My sister got a cake here for mother's day and I have to tell you, it was amazing. The cake was moist and the frosting was rich and tasty. Although it says Deerfield Bakery, this one is located in Schaumburg.

I would like to give it four stars but I'm not close to be wowed by Deerfield. It's not that the desserts aren't good -- they have the type of cakes and pastries I've been searching for in the 'burbs. Sadly, one of my staples, the lemon bar, fell short of my expectations. The buttery, flaky crust is its only saving grace. I make a more flavorful bar at home, complete with real lemon, zest and juice. This one tastes quite artificial. The teeny tiramisu sample (95 cents) do not pack a punch in its flavor but the creaminess and the soft chocolate shell are right on. I was drawn to the chocolate chips-laden croissant. It's a mess trying to eat it but finger-licking good. And they do not scrimp on the chocolate filling either. The apple pie consists of the same hardy, flakey crust, and the filling tastes similar to the ones found in Mrs. Smith's frozen pie. I will return to try the other sweets. They had one-day-old fruit-filled streudels for $2 less, what a neat idea. I am quite hesitant to spend $20 over on a 6-inch cake, though, unless I plan to go hog wild and splurge. Maybe one of these days. I'm still owed a birthday cake. *Photo shot

Excellent baked goods - both gluten free and non gluten free (I'm speaking for my husband for the regular non-GF stuff). My husband would wait for a long time for one of the paczkis from Deerfield's! The gluten free selections at Deerfield's are awesome. There are so many options here that I have not tried them all! But the brown rice baguettes are perfect for sandwiches or for having a nice crusty bread with your meal. Going gluten free, this is definitely something I miss. Cookies, breads, etc. are all terrific here and the service is excellent.

Went to Deerfield's for the 1st time on a Saturday morning, I always past by and was craving a donut.. so I figured I'd stop by. The inside is pretty cool. Pick your own donuts, but I don't like how they aren't any little signs telling you which donut was what... I kind of had to guess what I was getting. I really wanted a Bavarian cream donut. Not sure what I got because the cream inside tasted like whip cream not custard, like I wanted. The donut itself was good but the whip cream filling was just too much!

If you have been following my reviews, then you'll know I'm a big sweets person. I love desserts. Anytime I travel, I look for local bakeries to try out. Deerfield has a pretty good track record based on the Yelp reviews. I went to Deerfield around 8am on a weekday. They have a HUGE selection of goodies. Once again, I felt sensory overload. The aromas of freshly baked doughnuts and pastries filled the air. Display cases and shelves of cakes, cupcakes, and cookies lined the edges of the store area. Oh my goodness! What do I buy? I probably spent 10 minutes inspecting the various treats. I ended up buying 4 of the smaller turkey cupcakes (for all of the people in my training class), 3 of the face cookies (one smiley face, one haystack, and one turkey), and a slice of banana cake. I tried a couple bites of the cookies and the banana cake. Delish! Everything is baked fresh. After eyeballing the cupcakes and giving them away, I decided I should go back and get the full-sized turkey cupcakes. I went back in the evening and they still had a good selection of everything. I purchased 3 of the bigger turkey cupcakes: 2 yellow cake and 1 chocolate. I gave one of the yellow cupcakes to a former HS classmate and track teammate who I met up with for dinner later that evening. I have since tried the cupcakes. They are incredibly rich. The cake part is super moist. They have done a great job with their cake recipes. They make the good kind of icing too. Fudgy (is that a word?), rich, and thick. Goes well with the cupcakes. I almost think the chocolate cupcake with the fudge frosting is too much chocolate. I would recommend the yellow cupcake with the fudge frosting. The banana cake with fudge frosting is also quite tasty. I'm sure you can't go wrong with anything from Deerfield. Bon appetit!

Deerfield's has been in Schaumburg, but I never went in until earlier this year, because it's awkward location(tough to get in and out)' but now I am hooked! If you love your donuts and pastries like I do, they are incredible here, albeit, on the pricey side! Those strawberry shortcake pastries are out-of-this-world! I also like their coffee which is nice medium between Starbucks and Dunkin Dognuts. Great!

Deerfields did our wedding cake (for 140 guests) and did a great job. You can do tastings at home, which consists of a large box full of every variety of cake, filling, and frosting they offer. We went with three tiers, each different (marble cake/fudge filling, red velvet cake/cream cheese filling, and yellow pound cake/fudge filling). The cake was delicious. My one complaints is that the cake wasn't really decorated as we requested. We had buttercream as the outside layer and asked them to do a spackled look with beading at the bottom of each tier. Instead we got what I would describe as a rather unattractive wave look on the buttercream and no beading. Although the cake didn't really look like we wanted it to, it really was delicious, which I would say is the most important part. Overall, Deerfields, were reliable and easy to work with. And despite the slight disappointment with the cake's appearance, I would still recommend Deerfields for a wedding cake.

Normally I'm not a huge fan of fruit pies, but my brother and dad love them so for family birthdays we usually get them from Deerfield's. I am in LOVE with the cherry and dutch apple from here. Holy moly. I am almost scared to try anything else from here and fall in love...

came here before my haircut to grab some sweets for my sweet tooth, and was not satified, both the sweet tooth and my expectations for the place!!! picked up 1/4 pound tasting of their cookie, which are equivalent to Russian tea cakes, also known as Italian wedding cookies, mexican wedding cookies, or the ever so popular Greek kourabiethes. Different names, same cookie. Or so i think? Sorry cookie enthusiasts!!! Anywhooooo...I was disappointed that they weren't powerdered enough and the cookie was so dry tasting, it left such a bad taste in your mouth. Not a good thing, especially if they are usually made with tons of butter. In addition, they were priced at $12.99/lb. Way overpriced, as i found that some Greek bakeries carry this for $8.99. I would try their cakes, just so I can try it to review and give them a second chance. But by the looks of things, if their cookie says it all...then i'm not looking forward to the cake.

Sweet Jesus, I love this place. I bought a Bailey's Irish Cream Cake (FYI - Baily's Irish Cream is actually owned by an English company, just like Guinness...) for a birthday and it was one of the best cakes I've ever eaten in my life. The frosting came out with a hint of Irish Cream flavor and it didn't have that sickeningly sweet taste that makes you scrape half of it off. The yellow cake inside even had a moist, hardier flavor, drenched in that Irish Cream flavor. YUM. Everything else in this place rocks. If you don't like something from this place, you probably deserve to get punched in the face.

i have heard great things about deerfields so i decided to use them for a 4th of july cake this year. originally i wanted to get those super fun pull-away cupcake cakes but with some thought and talking it over to one of the girls our best bang for our buck would be getting a regular sheet cake. good call! this bakery is so great i can't believe i have never stopped in before! the prices weren't too high & the service was top notch. i can't wait to come back to try more items.

The coffee cakes here are great! I really like the almond one and the chocolate chip one! I actually went here to order a cake for a bridal shower and I wanted a specific design that was on the bridal shower card. I bought the card with bec when I called they said they would need to see it, well I guess dumb and dumber were working that day and I am like can you make a cake with these two polka dotted hearts on the cake with whip cream and fresh strawberries and they are like no, only buttercream, so then I am like well what can you make with whip cream(I wanted to know what my options could be for a whip cream cake) so they are looking on the computer and they couldn't even find anything to show me! It was very annoying, then I called Dominicks in Schaumburg and they said to come in with the card and they made me a whip cream cake with fresh strawberries that was just what we wanted and it was really good! They had no problem making the cake with the colors and design I wanted.

Yeah, I admit it- this place gets me excited about Birthday parties in the suburbs! I'm a cake eating freak, and Deerfield's makes another trip down the northwest tollway so much easier! Yeah, Mom, nice to see the family too- but please get the cake at Deerfield's!

Deerfield's is legendary for a reason. Their cake is like no one else's. I recommend getting a cake with fudge filling & buttercream frosting. Everyone will rave. You WILL pay top dollar for a cake here. After having it you will know why.

Croissants, croissants, croissants. Now go! They are buttery, flaky, full of flavor, and will melt in your mouth if you can make them last that long. Otherwise I would just recommend devouring and thanking the baking gods that you have access to these wonderfully baked pastries. Mmmmmm

Just stopped in here today and bought 4 donuts, 2 pastries/turnovers and an eclair and they are so good! The jelly inside the jelly filled donut I got is clearly freshly made since there are seeds in it. And the donuts taste like they were made within the hour! So fresh and soft! I definitely will be back to try more things such as their breads! Yum!

Customer service is the worst at Deerfields...Deerfield's you are not the only outfit in town that can whip up a cake! You are now officially on my 'list' of banned businesses...not like you care-because you will continue to treat customers like crap, charge outrageous amounts for some flour, sugar, butter & eggs mixed up and have horrible store policies-but at least I will know that you will never see a dime of my money again. Here's hoping other people realize that this is not a friendly neighborhood bakery! Go away! Don't forget to check other Yelpers reviews that got filtered out at the bottom of the page in the gray section.... They are often filtered there because they are new to Yelp..nonetheless there are more stories of horrible customer service so I know I'm not the only one. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the aggravation- go somewhere else :) Check out the picture gallery. There is a lovely picture of the cake that Deerfield's (a bakery) could NOT do, but yet I was able to get an even better cake AND better customer service from Baskin Robins in Bloomingdale off of Gary rd. 630-582-7515. Take your business there! Dear Jackie, Your canned response is a day late, a dollar short and completely unbelievable. The only 2 people besides employees when I was there Wednesday am ~8:30a were 2 Schaumburg cops. Didn't look like they were pickup up or placing cake orders :)

If you need a nicely decorated cake, this is the place. If you're looking for flavor, freshness, and friendly employees, take a pass. I've given them quite a few tries. The cake I bought was dry and very expensive. Prices are ridiculous. I don't get all the five stars and I'm not buying it.

We were participating in the small business Saturday and decided to buy some items here The Store is very inviting with all its cakes, cookies and delicious looking breads Couldn't decide on just one so we bought lots. Service was great. Our server was very knowledgeable about everything displayed and answered all our questions. Displays were clean and attractive. We ended up buying rum balls that were colorfully coated with sprinkles, santa gingerbread cookies that were delicious, and a great broccoli cheese bread which reminded me of a type of monkeybread (if you know what that is). This bread had large and small chunks of broccoli and had shredded cheese throughout. We didn't wait to microwave it as instructed but ate it cool and it was wonderful. Had we heated it I'm sure it would have been absolutely delicious. Overall, we'll be back!

Seriously disappointed in Deerfields. They used to be my go-to for excellence in cake design. Today I went in to price out a 50th anniversary cake for my parents. Being an amateur cake designer, I know what can and cannot be done and what I want. I asked for a 2 tiered cake with a gold ribbon and shimmery gold accents and a gold fondant bow. They told me they could only do it in this gross mustard gold that looked like baby vomit. I would need to have the bow made, bring in the ribbon, and the topper. The wouldn't supply any of it the way I wanted. Then we talked about cupcakes. They told me they would not decorate the cupcakes, they would only be frosted and that was it. If I had the time, I would make the cake myself. How is it possible that a bakery of this level could not meet my needs. It wasn't that complicated. The girl offered me a silver cake and said "this one is nice". I said, that is for a 25th anniversary. She said, oh what is the color for 50 (this was after the 15 minute conversation we had about the cake I wanted)? And I said..."um..gold". Then I asked for a white fondant covered cake that is dusted in gold luster dust for some sparkle. The said they could only use disco dust (which is not what I wanted) and why would I want fondant anyway nobody likes fondant. I responded that the fondant can be removed and it has buttercream underneath. Pretty much a disappointment from the moment I walked in. I will only go back if I need donuts...oh and I have county donuts just down the road. I guess I don't need to go back. thank god I didn't wait til the last minute. I figured it was a no brainer.

Though I'm sure the cake I ordered was just as good this time, I'm giving this place a 5 star again based on my phone in order. I ordered a cake for my cousin's graduation and having been here before, it was an easy decision. The website wasn't too helpful so I had to make 2 calls in; first to her info, second for the order. The only downside is this place is busy so you wait in line on the phone. Then again that tells you how popular it is. FYI deliver orders come from another location and there is a fee of around $25. My second call was great. The woman who helped me was sooooo helpful. She was patient and helped me figure out what to do and where to go on the site to see the flavors. When I wanted to write a graduation quote but it was too big, she suggested that they could write this on a piece of chocolate and put that on the cake. Once ordered, I got an email confirmation. Cake was ready as promised and perfect!

This is pastry paradise. But I am happy that I have passed this place for two and half years without stopping in until now. I would be the size of the Pilsbury doughboy from all the carbs. I love the set up. You walk in and the doughnuts, muffins, bagels, cookies, pastries and other sweet treats are placed all around the bakery (largely against the wall). It's self serve for 90% f the items in the store. Their are labels listing the item, ingredients and pricing. The trays and boxes are beneath the pastries. Once you have selected your items, you then bring your items to the cashier, pay and leave. As a first timer, I spent way too much time deciding what to get. This place has everything and everything looked so good. I really wanted one of each but went with my better judgment. I bought a cinnamon roll, glaze doughnut and an almond pastry. My plan was to get one thing, but I could not decide. As I write this, I am happy to report I have only consumed two of three. After all, I did not want to go into a diabetic coma on the weekend.... I have stuff to do. But seriously, I love their glaze doughnut. (6 stars) The almond pastry was good (3.5 stars) but I probably would waste my calories on something else next trip. .....Yes, there will be a next trip. And I can't wait!

Two days ago, it was my birthday and I really wanted a cupcake. I didn't have a cake at my party last week and I knew that my family wasn't going to make me a cake or anything and I just wanted some kind of sweet treat! So... cupcake. I knew of a couple places where I could get a yummy cupcake, but none of them were right in the middle of Schaumburg; I kind of wanted to stay in the area after a walk at Spring Valley, so Deerfield's was pretty much my only option. A friend and I walked in around 3pm on a Friday afternoon. Although it wasn't prime time for devouring donuts and bagels and coffee cakes and other baked delicacies, they had a pretty good selection still available. It's amazing what a difference two hours makes (I once came here before closing and barely anything was left)! I made a beeline for the cupcakes and quickly selected a large, frosted pink cupcake with sparkles in the frosting! Glitter? Giant pieces of sugar? I don't know -- but it was lovely and only two dollars! A group of ladies and their (I assume) offspring occupied the three tables inside so we wandered over to a picnic table in the middle of the grass in the front of the store to eat our pretty treats. Appearances can be deceiving. You know those generic cupcakes that you can buy from lame area grocery stores (*cough*Jewel*cough*)? Ever bought a bunch of them for an occasion, had some left, stuck them in the fridge, and had one the next day? That's what this particular cupcake tasted like. Cold. Bland. Very sugary with a small hint of flavor. Not the kind of cupcake that you lust after. I was disappointed. And it was at this point that I remembered buying some cupcakes here a few months ago with my husband and being equally disappointed. Double boo. I know it's hard to judge a place based on two disappointing cupcake experiences when they have so much more to offer, but when cupcakes are pretty much the only baked goods that matter to me, it's hard not to judge. I give them props for having gluten-free items and a huge variety of other baked goods, but I'm not a big fan.

I wish I didn't have to use this bakery, but unfortunately it's too late to make other arrangements. I placed an order with Deerfield's on September 4th for a gluten-free birthday cake needed at a corporate event on September 20th. I received a call today (9/17) that they are unable to fulfill the order with the agreed upon flavor due to an ingredient shortage. I had the courtesy to place my order well in advance, and the best this place can do is give me 2 days notice? How do you run a business and take orders in advance if you aren't capable of accurately gauging the supplies you need? I was told my only options are A) Cancel the order, B) order a different flavor (NOT what the birthday guest wants), or C) order cupcakes instead - cupcakes that are already made and will surely be stale by the time of our event on Saturday. Gee, thanks. What if this had been for a wedding? Would they find it appropriate to tell a bride that they can't do what they already agreed to do weeks ago? I'm pretty sure many grocery stores would have the ingredients we need, but Deerfield's unprofessionalism, laziness, and crap customer service shined through when they said there is nothing they can do except cancel the order or change the flavor. Unacceptable. Sadly, we have no other choice but to get the cake we don't want so we don't have a even more disappointed birthday guest. Hopefully the quality is better than their customer service, but at this point they've already ruined it for us. There are plenty of other bakeries that can accommodate gluten-free needs closer to the city that I would have gone to if I had a car and wasn't flying in from out of town for this corporate conference.... steer clear of Deerfield's. Waste of time.

Oh my chocolate-covered Jesus. I pass by this place so many times on my way to and from work, and I've never taken the opportunity to go inside. Until today. I just had to see what the fuss is about. The minute I walked in the door, I was greeted by a large assortment of donuts, bagels, muffins, danishes, cookies, cakes, and other delightful pastries. I also noticed the not-so-discreet day-old section of coffee cake, but I decided to wait until another time to get those. As much as I wanted the entire bakery to melt in my mouth, I had to settle for six donuts. I got regular glazed, apple spice, jelly bismark, lemon bismark, red velvet, and custard bismark. And the prices were just right; a little more than a dollar each. As much as I didn't want to, I shared my bounty with the S.O. He helped himself to the apple spice donut, and I insisted on taking a bite. I really enjoyed it; it was soft, and the apple-cinnamon flavor was strong. Later in the evening, I decided to try the custard bismark, which is Deerfields' specialty. WHOA. I think this ruined all other donuts for me. The filling was thick and creamy, not thin and pudding-like. It was also plentiful; not too much donut, not too much filling. I was sad to finish it. I'll definitely have to get that one again! Right now I am enjoying a lemon bismark, which has the same consistency as the custard. Even though I enjoy lemon, the taste is not too strong, which works. Nommers. I dig it. A lot. I look forward to trying the cakes, pies, breads, and other goodies soon! Oh, and to the lovely Mr. Jelly Bismark that's still in the box: beware. You're mine tomorrow morning. =^.^=

The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I have not gotten to actually taste the cupcakes I ordered myself. I live in AZ and placed a special order for my friend to pick up as a surprise for my best friend. Here's the catch: I had a very unique request as far as the décor goes. My best friend went through a hysterectomy and instead of sending get well flowers, I wanted to send her a cake (because that's the kind of weird sense of humor we have). The woman taking my order was beyond helpful looking up images (how she was keeping a straight face, I don't know. Maybe she wasn't!) and gave me a good estimate of how many cupcakes it would take to fulfill my request. It was a pretty humorous conversation, but she was extremely pleasant, helpful and professional. I was the one giggling, while she reassured me she's had odd requests before. Top notch customer service and overall very happy with my experience. I can't wait to try the ovary that's waiting for me in the freezer for when I visit next month!

How can a bakery not be able to make cakes because they can't get strawberries? I am able to go to a dozen grocery stores and get strawberries but this bakery can't. Looks like profits are more important than customers. I'll go to Mariano 's and get a cake with fresh strawberries. I even offered to take a cake without the strawberries and they wouldn't make the cake. How do spell lazy, Deerfield bakery is how.

After months have passed since our last visit in the summer...there are still bugs on the window sill,( behind bakery goods) which are now decomposing...being a Monday we noticed the product served was probably from Sunday. Donuts were dry.... Then the worst..... The presence of a long dark hair mixed in the icing within my mouth. eewwwwwwwww ( from one of the donuts I was eating in their establishment). After bringing this to the attention of the workers they did not seemed fazed, nor did they even offer a complimentary donut or a cup of coffee. (mind you the decaffeinated coffee I ordered was not even hot). As we sat there and looked around I noticed how dirty their floor was and crumbs laying on the counter tops. It was not that busy and it appeared some of the workers could be cleaning up instead of standing around talking to one another. Perhaps the board of health needs to pay a visit....won't be going back....

We discovered the large cupcakes for our birthdays. They are adorable and also one feeds our entire "on a diet" clans with one delicious taste. The ordering process is smooth and the product is sooo delicious

I come here often, I work 2 blocks away. This past Easter weekend I went in to get a few pastries for a get together. I got a few coconut donuts, cookies, carrot cake slices, & a cheese & cherry streusel like thing. The donuts were over done, & really dry & burnt at the bottom. I couldn't se this when picking them out due to the frosting on top. The cherry & cheese streusel was almost black on the bottom, again over cooked, & the inside was dry like it was 2 weeks old & certain areas hollow due to it being in the oven too long. It had a huge lengthwise crack on top, which should have been a red flag. I get this a lot, so I know when it's made right. Maybe the baker fell asleep at the wheel that day, but burnt items should NOT be placed out for purchase! I was really pissed because these things were Inedible & I spent almost $30. quality control, Deerfields.

My review is based entirely on their cake slices. So, I have this friend who keeps raving about Deerfield and I am a sucker for bakeries. As much as I wanted to try their danishes and breads, I never over buy unless I am sure. So, I got four slices of Tiramisu for a small personal occassion(husband LOVES tiramisu) and I have gotten it from various places. He didn't go for the second bite and I knew something was wrong, for a palette that strong. I cannot hate food, but it was not good. Wasn't fresh and soft the way it was supposed to be, it felt like it was days old and nowhere close to Tiramisu's flavor. I am not sure if I would ever get cakes from them again, maybe they are good for their breads, but will not recommend.

Many years ago as young teenager I used to visit the original Deefield Bakery when I would visit Northbrook, lucky for me Deerfield is just down the road. Many years have past & I no longer find myself visiting Northbrook so you can imagine my excitement when I saw they now had three locations & one was in Schaumburg! Just a mere 20 minutes away from the Brookfield Zoo is an extension of one of the finest bakeries one could ever ask for, and at competitive prices especially in comparison of down town. I walked in not hungry in the least but all of that changed when the wonderful aroma of cakes and pastries hit my nasal cavity. My mission get some samples of red velvet & get out the door but alas I was weak two red velvet cup cakes, one slice of red velvet cake & what the heck throw in a cream puff, top it all off with a bottle of water a surprisingly low amount $10.00 I was delighted. If Deefield Bakery was within 20 miles of me on a regular basis they would have a regular customer.

Was craving some desert, so stopped in here for the first time. It was bigger than I expected and had a pretty good selection. I got the cranberry muffin and my husband got the almond croissant. The muffin was a decent muffin, a good mixof sweet and sour from the cranberries. The almond croissant, however, was delicious. It was flaky and sweet. The almond paste inside was just the right amount to compliment the almond flavor. Cant wait to go back and try more treats!

I normally don't write reviews on anything but I am particularly upset with the customer service that I received and the pricing of something so small. My son and I stop at Deerfields almost twice a week or more in the mornings because he loves their baked goods. I also like to buy things from their gluten free items for my boyfriend because he doesn't eat the other non-gluten free items. My review is not based on the Schaumburg location in itself, but for customer service phone call. The people at the Schaumburg location are very nice and helpful. My son wanted a cake from Deerfields for his 5th birthday. He decided last night that he wanted a cake on his birthday (tomorrow the 16th) instead of just at his party. I expected the cake to be expensive which for a 1/4 sheet cake with one layer of frosting, almost $19 isn't bad. I called the Schaumburg location earlier this morning and the girl who answered was very helpful and sweet. She told me that they didn't have a cake in store like I wanted because they are decorated but I could order it and have it there tomorrow. She then transferred me to customer service. I was on hold for 25 minutes then finally hung up. I then called back later and only waited 5 minutes. Being that it is such short notice, I didn't really need much of a decoration because my son wants Disney's Fire/Rescue and that would I'm sure cause the need for more time at the bakery. The girl told me that with tax the 1/4 sheet cake would cost $18.45. Perfect that's excellent. I then asked how much extra it would be for them to solely put "Happy Birthday" on the cake. I figured maybe $2 or so being that I wasn't getting flowers or balloons or anything else. It was $7. How disappointing when I could spend the same price on a cake elsewhere and that be included. I do not see how them simply putting "Happy Birthday" or "Happy Birthday, Ethan" could possibly cost the same as if they were putting that phrase plus putting all the other decorations that normally cause the cake to cost more. I understand that decorating takes time, but really $7 for something that is so simple and takes less than a minute or 30 seconds to do. I am still purchasing the cake in which she said will be ready tomorrow by noon at my specified location but SOLELY because that is where my son wanted his cake from. Sadly it will NOT say anything on it and I will still put the Fire/Rescue characters on there myself. Still so disappointed.

Just last week I was discussing the old Bagel Bites commercial song from when we were kids. Ya know... the, 'Pizza in the morning,. Pizza in the evenin', Pizza at suppertime! When pizza's on a bagel, You can eat pizza anytime!' song. It was so good, but not totally true since the commercial came out in 1990 and back then I was only 5 or 6 and had not talents or natural ability to earn money and according to my mom, 'Those things are expensive. They don't grow on trees. No you cannot eat them for every meal.' Plus, I wasn't very good at making them, always turned out burnt to hell and hard enough to take out my baby teeth so even if you did get to enjoy the 'pizza in the morning' aspect, chances are your jaw was still too tired from the bagel b-fast to hit that ish up for seconds and thirds throughout day (that's when you switch to Totino's pizza roll, duh). That's enough about the dining habits of a latch-key kid. The point I'm trying to get to is that thanks to Deerfield's I got to live out my lifetime dream of pizza for every meal, EVEN dessert, thanks to their magical pizza pastry. It's breakfast, it's snack, it's my dinner side and dessert. I've been practically ranting about this thing ever since I saw one when I was pressing my face up against the glass at Jarosch Bakery a few weeks ago. My boyfriend said it sounded (and looked) kind of gross, but agreed to go along with it since he could recall my bringing it up to him no less than a dozen seven times before today. The treat is fairly ridiculous, but awesome as heck. It's like a round coffee cake with all the traditional coffee cake toppings mixed in to look like pizza. It got the blackberry business, the strawberry business, the cheese business, some soft nut business, and somewhere in there there's a lemon tasting jelly something or other which I'd prefer they just sub with more cheese, but it wasn't totally noticeable so not a huge deal for this hater of lemon in dessert treats. They typically run about $7-8 for a pastry pie about 13' in diameter- prob enough for 6 people as a morning office snack or dessert. My boo and I have had 3 big slices each so far and we're only about 1/3 through it. Another score on this pie, we were able to score one from 'Day Old' shelves underneath the fresh ones for $5.50. Holla! This homie don't care about freshness. Plus I'm sure there's a ton of preservatives in the preserves on the pie that it doesn't even matter. It was still soft, moist and delcious- even 24-36 hours later. In addition to the pastry pizza pies (that you NEED to get) they've got bagels, granola, doughnuts, fresh baked bread, rumballs, cupcakes, cakes, custom cookies, pie, homemade cream cheese, coffee cake, danishes, strudels and so very much more. The store is super cute, the staff are helpful and the flow is a good one for a pastry place so you can move and see everything and not feel like you have to fight to grab a number to even look at the goods. It will be pretty slim pickins if you go later in the day, but I don't mind because there's a better chance of scooping up the larger discounted day-old ish. Viva La Pizza Pastry!!!

Decided to come here on an afternoon for some sweets. I have read great things from Yelp but my husband and I were a little underwhelmed.. The bakery is adorable and the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. It isn't the cheapest place to get sweets, but it isn't the most expensive. We left with some goodies and had very high expectations cause everything we tasted in the store was amazing. Our tiramisu cups were delightful, but seemed a little pricey for something so small. Our smiley-face cookies were pretty good and we felt like kiddies again. Our cakes, however, were insanely dry. I was almost furious eating the piece of cake cause I know I can make a moist cake from a box--this was nowhere near worth spending $2 for. I really hope we just got a bad batch (although we both had different cake flavors) and not all of their cakes are like this. I am pretty sure we will be returning to give it another chance... but it won't be anytime soon.

Not impressed. While the cookies, donuts and cupcakes you buy off the shelf are good, overall I think the bakery is overpriced and extremely hard to work with. I had a coupon so I went in to get a cake for a special occasion. I needed it the next afternoon (24 hours). I didn't want anything too elaborate, but wanted specific colors and a flag on it. All the colors had to be "cleared" with the manager in the back office, I could have no more than 2 colors and no picture. I was told many times that this was a "last minute" order and my options were limited. This is a bakery, they should be able to handle a simple design with 24 hours notice! I could have gone to Jewel and ordered a much more elaborate cake with one day notice, it would have cost half as much and tasted as good. Won't be back.
