I'm changing my review from 5 to 2...... The only reason why it gets 2 instead of a 1 star rating is because of a very friendly worker at Sarku (tall lady with long hair). The other short Hispanic lady (kinda fat looking) is very rude. She doesn't smile, and starts talking about customers in front of them. We're regulars there, and I'm kinda surprised at her attitude towards others. She should be fired.

The portion size is insanity for a Japanese place. That is the only thing about average here. Its good, don't get me wrong. But its uncharacteristically grease-covered and mildly upsetting to even the strongest stomach. Clealy the chicken they use is bottom of the barrel (but for the low, low price what do you expect?). The rice is surprisingly good for mall food. Still, despite its downfalls its still one of the best choices when it comes to mall food.

If you are looking for a quick lunch and a great price you are at the right place. I highly recommend the Chicken Teriyaki. It is tasty and is a whopping 530 calories if you leave out the rice- chicken and vegetables only. Although it may not compare to Ron of Japan or other eateries in the like, for a fast food place it hits the spot. You most definitely won't leave hungry or broke! It is often on special for $4.99 a plate.

Solid 3.5 stars. I have no idea how I ended up here for lunch today but left satisfied. While I didn't go to school at U of I, I did eat Sarku a number of times and remembered the chicken teriyaki being decent. For a little over $8, I got a double order of the chicken teriyaki, fried rice, veggies and a pop. They give you quite a lot for the money. While I don't like to watch them make the food, especially because seeing them scoop raw chicken and plop it onto the grill isn't very appetizing, I found the end result surprisingly good! It's hard to explain but there's just something about this chicken being cooked on the flattop and letting the sauce caramelize in and around it. The reason I rounded up was because the cooks made sure to use different sets of spatulas for the different meats and veggies on the grill. I was a little scared they might not care about cross contamination but thankfully they had a separate set of spatulas for everything. The service is fine if a little slow. I haven't been to Golf Mill in ages before today but if for some reason I'm here again, Sarku is my choice amongst the other options in the food court.

I read the two other reviews. First guy Dan D. you go to sarku for thing the teriyaki chicken you dont go there for anything else. If you want authentic sushi/yaki soba etc goto a full blown japanese restaurant. Who cares if the employees are lazy. I even think when they scoop of the raw chicken from underneath the counter it looks disgusting but the end result is amazing teriyaki chicken. Its flavorful and goes well with the fried rice and the steamed veggies. The double meat is awesome and they skimp on the double meat part either. you will have dinner and then leftovers for another meal. Freaking love sarku. -1 star for unappetizing scoopage of the raw chicken mush from under the grill and plopping on the grill. You might want to turn away if you have a weak stomach when they do this. Also I need more veggies on my plate. Other than that i love this place and will bring all my friends until they are believers. I already got one of them hooked!

Not a great sushi place, but ok if you want cheap, fast-food type sushi. I ordered the "Salmon Lovers Platter". It came with 5 tiny pieces of salmon. You are better off going to Ginza next door.

I have frequented many other Sarku's (AKA Sakkio Japan) before, and I LOVE their Chicken Teriyaki. Great value for the money, especially if you opt for the double meat for only $.99 more. I agree with Dan D., despite my strong love of the teriyaki at Sarku, the service and overal "feel" of the employees is lazy and urorganized, not to mention borderline rude. The food is great, but the staff could use a brush up course in customer service and maybe smile once in awhile. Although, keep in mind this is a fast food restaurant in a shopping center food court, so you really can't expect much, so that is why I give them 4 stars. If you have not tried the food, make a point to do so. The teriyaki plate is large enough for two people to split, and a great alternative to a greasy burger at McDonalds.

I thought I would give this place a try but I regret it. My wife and I ordered our food, and to pass the wait time, we decide to watch the chef make the sushi. Big mistake, while watching him make sushi, we noticed THREE roaches come from the sushi area and walk around the counter, and crawl on the trays. The workers didn't even care after I pointed them out and voided my sale, they just kept on serving people.

I was very excited to see this place open up at the mall. A nice change and healthier alternative to the regular burgers, fries, and tacos normally being served at the mall food court. So, this place has been opened for about 3 months now. Their chicken teriyaki seems to be a specialty here. It is very good and they serve it in great amount. It is their daily special. But this place just rubs me the wrong way. Sarku just seems lazy and unorganized to me. There is a clear sleeve on the menu for their daily special, so it looks like they would have a special for every day, but it looks like they're too lazy to change the sign. Their daily special has been chicken teriyaki since it opened. I first came here during the first week it opened. I wanted some miso soup. They said they didn't have it. I thought to myself, "Okay, they just opened, so they probably don't have everything yet. It's cool." Cut to 3 months later, and STILL NO MISO SOUP!!!!!! How hard is it make it, anyway! No noodles, no chicken, just broth and tofu. Maybe mushrooms and spinach. Take it off the menu if you don't have it. There is only one sushi chef, so if you plan on coming during your lunch hour, be prepared to wait on you sushi for a long time. And speaking of their sushi, it pretty plain. Nothing special about it. So you'll be waiting a long time for 8 pieces of sub-par sushi that won't even fill you up. Sarku, please get your act together, or you will end up like your neighbor, Elephant Bar. Taking forever to build, only to close down. And Elephant Bar was way better than you. Beware!

Teriyaki chicken with double the beef for a couple bucks and BAM you got a cheap and fast meal for two or for one comatosed 5-hour energy drinking business man. Tastes great if you're looking for something quick, simple and affordable.

Based on what my sister said. She said she really likes the california rolls. Though it was very expensive.
