People have too many negative preconceived notions of White Castles. They're really great, nostalgic places, with quick, cheap, but quality food. I'm sure there are unclean White Castles, but the one in Mundelein is always clean, service is friendly...it's a must-go when in the area. Menu's pretty straightforward, but I recommend a few cheeseburgers, small fries and some chicken rings. And a drink of choice. Not healthy, but it's feel good food so whatever.

Just the other day I noticed this place for I usually don't get into this area. When I saw this White Castle it was just around lunch time so it was perfect timing and I'm glad I went in. Upon entry I was pleased to see that it was very clean. Then to make things better, the wait staff was very professional and friendly. The food comes out quickly and served in the typical White Castle fashion. You can bet, now that I know this place is here, I'll be checking in more often.

I placed an order for a Crave Case of jalapeño cheeseburgers at 11:33am for an 11:53am pickup time using White Castle's online ordering. I arrived at 11:53am and was told it will be a few minutes. It is now 12:09pm, and I am still waiting. It is ridiculous that I gave them 20 minutes to get the order ready, and it has been almost 40 minutes. Not happy. Edit: I ended up needing to go inside the restaurant to see what the deal was. The guy who I assume was the manager told me to pull into a parking spot after I paid at the drive-thru and that he'd bring the burgers out to me. Once inside, he took notice of me and went and talked to the cooks. After waiting inside for about 5 minutes, he finally handed me my burgers and gave me a complimentary medium soft drink. Gee thanks. There was a good amount of people inside, so I said "I sure hope these burgers are plated in gold after a 40 minute wait" as loud as I could.

Harold and Kumar steered me wrong. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the movie and wanted to try White Castle. Two years after moving from California to Illinois, I finally had a chance to try the famous White Castle slider. I went through the drive-thru and ordered sliders with cheese, fries, a chicken and waffle sandwich, and a sweet tea. As I sat in the parking lot and took that first bite, my first thought was that I wasted my time, money and about 2,000 calories. The burgers are pretty flavorless and I can honestly say I would rather eat a McDonald's burger (which I don't even like). The chicken and waffle sandwich was even less appetizing than the sliders.

However, their fries are yummy. And this is where I would give them 4 stars for their fries alone. WC serves the typical crinkle fries. When I get cravings for them, you will find me in their Drive Thru, ordering a large order of fries. Only half of them make it home bec the other half are devoured by me in the car. So give their fries a try next time you pass by WC.
