Very authentic food. Food came out fast but the service after that was very slow. The price was great. Would recommend for the food not the service.

Excellent authentic Mexican for a great price. My family and I came in Friday night and were seated immediately. The staff was friendly and food came out hot and fast. We all had burritos and they were excellent. I got the queen burrito with steak and added avocado, grilled peppers and onions. The chicken and ground beef were also great!

When you see a Mexican crowd dining at a Mexican restaurant, you know the place is good! I ordered the bean burrito and was blown away! The tortilla was so flippin' good! The bean and the guacamole I added were finger-licking good. The salsa they gave me on the side was so tasty as well!! I wanted to give the place 3 stars because of the lady's attitude (I'm guessing she is the owner) but I ended up rating the food only. Tip for the owner: Smile lady! You only got one life to live! :D

Came in here with my husband and father-in-law after their baseball season came to an end. We ordered a couple beers, I had a margarita, which I didn't check the price on, and some really great enchiladas and burritos. Everything was fantastic, except the price of the marg. It was $8.50, and tasted like a cheap mix...wouldn't recommend getting one. Otherwise the service, food and prices were great!!

I really dislike their food. It was bland and not authentic. They offered me lettuce and cheese on my tacos.

Oh my gosh this place is fire. Get the pork burrito. The tortillas are toasted and the burritos are sooooo freaking good. Great for picking up food for the family

Absolutely my go-to for casual mexican-american fare. Decent horchata and great pricing. I usually go with the tacos and like to mix it up between chicken or chorizo. As is always of vital importance, their salsas are excellent. Though I wish they gave you a bit more than the 2 thimble-sized containers. I always forget to ask for a few more.

I visited here last night and I will never return. I ordered the steak taco dinner and when it arrived I immediately knew that it was not steak. I tasted it and also from the looks they were more of chorizo tacos. I told the server and she replied that it was steak so I told her I wanted chicken instead. The dinner came out within 5 min and tasted like chemicals. I couldn't even finish 1 taco. The lady also insulted me by bringing me a chorizo taco to prove me wrong. I was there at 9pm and they closed at 10pm and by the time we were done with dinner the server had her coat on when she gave us the check and had her car warming up before we even got outside. Also, while we were eating they were mopping the floors. I find this restaurant to not have good tasting food, the server was insulting and rude and I will not be returning.

I really like this place, homey, family run, great salsa and tacos at a very reasonable price.

This place is great if you don't want what you ordered. I go to this place because it's the best around...and that doesn't mean much. Got the enchiladas and got then wrong. Got a drink and surprisingly that was wrong as well. Good job. High five.

I love Taco & Burrito Express. First off, it is a family run business and the owners are incredibly nice. They have built up a good business and they provide a consistently good meal that is pretty authentic to their Mexican tradition. Though it is Americanized in that they have things like burritos, they provide authentic Mexican cuisine. The best thing about this place is the quality food you get for the price. A drink, a generously sized burrito, rice, and refried beans cost about ten bucks. I don't think I've ever spent much more than that for a meal there, no matter what I get. The food is delicious. The ingredients are fresh, the dishes well crafted, and the finished product very good. If you're looking for a no frills meal at a great price, this is it.

I love this place. The chips and salsa are great. Very low key place to eat lunch with more authentic version of mexican vs. chains. Reasonably priced but not the dive bar mexican you get at a stand alone burrito joint where you regret it the next day. I admit the first time I went here I was skeptical due to the name since it does kind of sound like a take out dive you would find near wrigleyville or something. I was at the post office and decided to try it out. The mole' enchilidas are dead on. It can be hard to find mole' enchiladas and even harder to find them done right. This place nails it. I pretty much order that every time, so don't have any input on the other items. I'm confused about the negative review on service. I go for lunch and it has always been very good.

TOTAL DISSAPOINTMENT...First of all my family & I have been frequent diners & huge fans of Taco Burrito Express since they opened their business in Mundelein many, many years ago. You know you are a "regular" when the owners know your names & what you will be ordering as soon as you walk in or ask "where have you been" when there was a lapse in time from the last visit. That said, it has been about two years since we have been back. On our last visit several in our group ordered carne asada which had always been a delicious tender & perfectly cooked skirt steak. On this particular visit all of us felt the carne asada was tough, fatty & chewy. A total disappoiintment! About halfway through our dinner the owner came over to see how we were, we mentioned this to her, sharing our concern that the meal was not up to their usual high standards or what we were accustomed too. She did not apologize, only told us there was no change to the way they prepared the carne asada. There was no offer to replace the three dinners with something else or made any adjustment to our check when she returned to our table with it. Keep in mind we were six adults enjoying dinners, margaritas & cerveza. The check was going to be hefty. More importantly there was no apology from her!! Atleast two years have passed...today I was tired from working in the garden with my mom & sister all day. We thought it would be nice to have a quick dinner & enjoy a margarita together after our long day. We returned to Taco Burrito Express to be greet by the owners daughter, now a beautiful young woman. Our group ordered a steak burrito dinner, chicken enchiladas, steak fajitas along with three maragritas. We also ordered a burrito dinner packed to go. My steak fajita dinner was horrible. Our server was not avaiilable so I brought it to the attention of the woman at the counter explaining to her how tough my steak was, her response was I think the steak is fine! Again no apology offered. This time I asked her to adjust the check & take the cost of my dinner off the check. I also explained why it had been so long since our last visit. She explained she could not & I asked to speak with the resturant manager or owners. She explained they were not in & nothing could be done. Again, not even an apology! Also, I think $8.25 for a mediocre margarita is way over priced!!!! Neither Casa Bonita or Tacos El Norte charge $8.25 for a more generous drink & not a glass with primarily ice! The four dinners & three drinks was $65.00 WE WON'T BE DOING THAT AGAIN AT TACO & BURRITO EXPRESS!!

Mmm Taco & Burrito Express, I want to give you more stars, I really do but steak tacos are not ground beef tacos. There is a world of difference. Yesterday I ordered 2 steak tacos on a corn tortilla and got 2 ground beef tacos instead. My boyfriend ordered 3 ground beef tacos and I think they must have confused our order because he got 1steak taco and 2 ground beef tacos. It's so quick and cheap here so it's hard to complain, the ground beef tacos weren't exactly unsavory but when a lady has a craving...it best be satisfied. And yes, definitely agree with Julie S. on this one, they don't mess with that "Express" aspect of their name, our meals were served in about 5 minutes time. Good service, tasty food -- hopefully next time I get steak tacos and not ground beef. Oh and, sadly their salsas are not at all spicy and served at room temperature. No bueno.

Stopped by a couple weeks ago, was pleasantly surprised! I had two tacos, chicken and steak. Both were excellent, and even tho they weren't huge, I was full. My mom got the barbacoa burrito, and she loved it! Everything was very fresh, and while casual the place was clean. The lady who waited on us, I'm assuming the owner, was awesome. She's very nice and you can tell she loves her restaurant, it was almost like being invited to someone's house for dinner! Cash only!

I love Mexican food and this is easily one of my favorite spots! It's near work so I frequent this place for lunch. It usually does not get busy until around 1230 or so. The owners/workers are really nice and always helpful in case you need anything (aka refill on my water haha). The chips & salsa are one of my faves. I could probably make a meal out of it if I really wanted to. The salsa is pretty mild. I always get the steak queen burrito (yeah that's right the QUEEN!) as an entre. To me, it's the perfect size to not feel stuffed after and be able to get back to work without being stuck in a food coma for an hour or two, but if you're really hungry, go for that king burrito! In my book, this place is a must. You can get a good sized meal for less than $10. Check check it out...

I'll be honest, we eat here a lot. Like, probably way too often, they probably know us. But being that good, at a great price, its hard to stay away for long. When they say Express, they mean it- this place is fast. For a sit down restaurant, its only about ten minutes from pulling in the parking lot to devouring your authentic mexican food. Decor is hispanic-cute-tacky-- just what you want and expect from TBE. The food is awesome for 'fast' food. I always get steak tacos, but I've ventured out to the steak fajita burrito once and it was great as well. HUGE portions + small price + unlimited chips/salsa = always go home very full and happy. Service is quick and attentive, in a clean, cozy-quaint environment. Drinks can be a huge part of mexican dining, and I agree with the other Yelpers that this is not the place to go for drinks. Yes, they have a few good beers in a cooler, but the margaritas are likely to be generic mix. Not bad, just generic. But for a quick, tasty meal you can always rely on, T&BE is a great option!

A wonderful family-run mexican restaurant. It's a great spot for lunch with quick service and very good value meals. The tacos are superb, as are the chips you can enjoy while they are being prepared. The outside appearance and décor are very simple, but don't let this put you off - it reflects the idea of simply providing good food. Easy to get to from the 45 or 176 with on-site parking.

Passing by I said to my wife this looks like a little hole in the wall place that probably has good food. She checked yelp and the reviews confirmed it, so we turned around and stopped. The servers were courteous and friendly. The Food came out fast, fresh and delicious. My wife and I both ordered the fish taco meals and They were very good. The rice and beans were the best we've ever had. They claim to have The best burrito in town, so look forward to finding out next time.

  • Stacee K.

Best Fish Tacos of all the places around here! Loooove the slaw that goes in them. The ambience is authentic, not the fanciest place around, but the staff is nice and the food is YUM!!!!

  • Mary L.

I've seen the mixed reviews on Yelp so I was unsure if I'd like this place. I thought the food here was very good and it's always good to support local businesses. The restaurant is within walking distance of my house, so I'll be sure to come back. My boyfriend and I had the carne asana tacos on corn tortillas, rice and a chicken gordita. I think next time, I will have my gordita without sour cream, but it was still good.

This place is good for typical Mexican food. I would compare it to El Famous Burrito favorably. We have eaten here many times and it's always good. I can't recommend dining in, we always call ahead and carry out. I like the burritos, tacos and chili rellenos. Mundelein is a town with no shortage of Mexican food and Taco & Burrito Express stands out.

  • Jm K.

Best fish tacos in town. The place looks like a hole in the wall but the food is authentic and delicious. Also very reasonably priced.

This place was okay. I found it on Yelp, and we went here after mini golfing with some friends. The food was good, but I don't know that we would go back. The environment felt a touch run down but still cozy. The service though was excellent, and everyone we talked to was very friendly.

This is my new favorite spot for Mexican food. If you're looking for real Mexican food, it doesn't get much better than Taco & Burrito Express. It's so good I came back two days in a row! I have yet to try a burrito but the tacos are really good. My favorite would probably have to be the tilapia tacos. Try them and you won't be disappointed.

One of the best Fish Tacos !! Awesome Horchata !!! The cashier girl is super cute and friendly !! Lot of guys form my work go there for her. This is one of the best authentic Mexican restaurant in north suburbs.

  • Benjamin S.

Today Taco & Burrito was top notch. Their steak tacos never tasted better and they are always great. I couldn't stop eating the chips and salsa and my boy had no problem knocking out his own 3 steak tacos. As good as it gets!

    (5)
  • Taylor M.

I have only eaten a steak torta from here and it was good, but lacking a bit on the ingredients. Since tortas are so bready, you need a good amount of meat, lettuce and sauces. This one was mostly bread. I gave them three stars though because the service was super friendly and quick!

    (3)
  • Stu A.

Excellent food and excellent prices. This was a true authentic Mexican place. I had the chicken quesadillas with rice and beans and it was $7 and was fantastic. They also bring chips and salsa to you table if you eat in. I'll definitely be coming back

    (5)
  • Sarah H.

The food here is fantastic. I really enjoyed it, and came back once a week to eat here for a while. The rice and beans are vegetarian, and the staff is very conscientious about keeping the meal wholly vegetarian. Everything about eating here is terrific (food-wise). The ambiance lacks a little -- frankly, the place is a bit of a dive. But if you can get past that, you should definitely eat here. Update: I've stopped eating here because the past three times I did, I had extreme diarrhea. Once is a coincidence, twice is chance, but three times? (Maybe they changed their chef or something, who knows?)

with all due respect I cannot believe the positive reviews this place got. I ate there several months ago and it was the most disgusting burrito I've ever had in my whole life.

  • STEFANIE A.

This is a 'safe' restaurant for me. Its literally across the street from my condo building so its very convenient too. Husband out of town? Taco Burrito Express. Had a little to much MLite last night? Taco Burrito Express. Just really need that delicous type of grease flavor only Mexican food can provide? Taco Burrito Express. Also safe because it never fails. Tacos are great, quesadillas are great (order the corn ones!), burritos are fab, etc. My only complaint is sometimes the steak is a little fatty, hard to avoid though so I wouldn't give any negative points for that. Perfect for take out too, they pack the food so tightly it would take quite a while for it to get cold. Margaritas are good, although I have a sneaking suspicion they are of pre-mixed store bought variety.... Prices can't be beat either!

    (5)
  • Patrick C.

Taco and other food they have here are great! I especially like their sopes. Give them a try. I usually order the same thing so it was a pleasant surprise when I ordered outside of my comfort zone. Service is always friendly here as well.

    (4)
  • Quantas G.

This place is a relic form my girlfriend's past. She brought me here to show me her life in the Mundelein/Libertyville area. The prices were great and the ambiance was typical of a dive-y Mexican joint. The food was nothing special or craveable but I did enjoy my time there nonetheless.

    (3)
  • Sue K.

Good food but not good business. The food is very good and fresh, however my husband really doesn't like coming here because the girl always rings up the wrong price (different than the menu) and the owner won't correct it. He's paid 3 different prices for the same thing - why not just change the menu? It's still my favorite taqueria in the area - hearty soups on Sunday.

    (4)
  • K B.

Have been coming here for years and love it every time. Great for takeout, as the food is always ready before you arrive to pick it up. Prices are easy on the wallet and staff is helpful. Decor is fantastically tacky and lovable. Food is always good.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
