Saw this place on the food network and was pleasantly surprised to find excellent food and service! Very cute restaurant!

Loved the decor, so many antiques in one place! Based on other peoples reviews, you have to appreciate history more than slasher movies to get it! This was our second time here. Pretty big menu with lots of just ok food. They used lots of canned veggies, mushrooms, soups and fruit and very little seasonings. The portions are truck stop size (it's in one so why not?). They're pretty busy at peak meal times so it can be loud. I think the real draw to this place is in the dessert case, it is massive and has everything! Children eat free, cool decor, good desserts, and big portions of pretty basic food. That's all this place has going for it.

First of all, the decor is hideous and frightening. Twirling umbrellas hang from the ceiling, a scary clown dangles in the corner, it's crowded, the furniture looks like it belongs in a 70s restaurant, the floor is dirty and stained. The cash register area smelled like a dirty diaper. We ordered the chicken fried steak dinner, a veggie burger, and a cup of ham and bean soup. You do not get what you pay for. The prices are way too high. The plates were huge, but the portions were not fitting to the plate. Food is obviously frozen food. The chicken fried steak was acceptable, barely, with bland gravy. It came with a large piece of kale randomly placed on the plate like some 1980s plate decoration. The mashed potatoes it was served with were ok. The carrots tasted like bagged, frozen carrots that were overcooked. It also came with the salad bar, which has a sparse selection. The veggie burger was actually very good. It was served with a slice of tomato. What I did not like was the frozen (it still had ice in it) marinara-tomato-paste substance all over the bottom of the bread. I ended up eating the veggie patty, the tomato, and the top piece of bread. The baked beans tasted ketchup-y. The French fries were excellent. The ham and bean soup tastes like someone opened a can of white beans and dumped some pre-cooked chopped ham into it. That was it. No spice or flavor. Except salty. It took 20 minutes to take our order and we were never offered refills. The staff was nice, just incompetent.

R-place will never be my place again. Not that the food was unacceptable but the atmosphere made me feel that Mark Knopfler's Devil Baby should be playing in the background while Carnivale should be playing on the t.v. Then perhaps the twirling umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, the marionettes climbing the walls, the Disney characters and Easter bunnies might all have seemed, well, a tad less disturbing. Honestly.... Couldn't they tell their central casting waiters that their ties should reach beyond the 3rd button on their shirt front? Happily we do not travel I-80 often, so missing a repeat visit won't be difficult - though it will be a while before the creepy images leave my mind. Much like a the setting for a Stephen King novel, I remain convinced that after we all left the marionettes came to life and started..... I don't mean to trash R-place.... The fried chicken was good - and while I wished for more fresh vegetables in the salad bar, there was nothing to really complain about for a truck stop restaurant. I just found the atmosphere so over the top that it became creepy.

Don't know what all the complaining is about. Yes it's a truck sop restaurant but a darn good one. We have eaten breakfast and supper here for the pass two days and can only say we have no complains. Food fresh and so hot we have to let it cool down. And when it comes to desserts I'm very picky. The bakery is again fresh and very tasty. I give this place 5 stars. Oh and friendly waitstaff.

An American Pickers dream! Nostalgic, antique toys and stuff everywhere to feast your eyes upon. Our booth had under glass an old Dick Tracy game, toy airplane and car and other tiny board games I never knew existed. The food is tasty too! Hubby had a chicken pot pie and I had spaghetti. The portions were huge. I needed a to go box. We had fun and will be back again.

This is NOT a truck stop diner. Its a very nice restaurant and bakery that just happen to be in a TA truck stop. The menu is huge and the items offered would rival any gourmet sandwich shop. Theeeeeen came the service. Waitress was less than friendly or informative, enen bordering on rude. Apparently I wasn't answering the questions quickly enough. Excuuuuse me but I'm a Southerner and yes, we drawl. Whatever the issue was, she must have gotten over it because when she returned she was not as gruff. Perhaps she was having nicotine withdrawals and got her smoke break. Maybe my display of proper table manners was an indication of my not being a lot lizard. Hey, I do have all of my own teeth still, despite being a southerner over 50. You would look a little frazzled too if you just drove 600 miles with tens of thousands of pounds of freight behind your head and people constantly cutting in front of you and landed in a place with windchill of -15 predicted for the night, lady! Either way, her tip just went up, but I digress.... The ribeye had a really good flavor but was a little tough. Overall I would definitely eat here again and bring friends. There were several other items I would like to try.

We had 2 waitresses due to change of shift which went smoothly. One was named Amber. Both very good. Healthy omelet was good & Hawaiian burger was very good with baked beans which were amazing. They have a great salad bar but we were there at 10am & it starts at 11am. But it's a great salad bar. Really enjoy R place. Decor antique. $26.00 for 2 which we got Burger fries pork & beans & healthy omelet fruit & toast. 2 beverages. It's a truck stop. Had shower area but hubby said truckers were washing their hair in the bathroom sink. Good food, good service, truck stop bathroom. Will be back.

This place is awesome. The best family restaurant in the area. Worth the trip If you can get past the idea of walking through a truck stop for a restaurant, then you are in for a treat. The reason for the 5-stars is because this is what a family restaurant should be. It has home cooking and everything that I tried was made from scratch and the desserts are all homemade and delicious. Also kids eat free everyday, can't beat that with a stick.

What a great value for truck stop! We saw the sign on the expressway, and we have to because we couldn't even figure out what the name of the restaurant was! We decided to go primarily because IHOP is old...and we're always in for something new. It turned out great... Food wasn't five star but definitely a step or two above what we thought we were going to get! Decour was amazing and the staff was excellent in the front, greeting our kids with a toy from their basket! Crayons and activity paper at the table, and a reasonable wait before food game. Food was good - wish I would've remembered to take a picture, LOL. Nice portions - plenty to share if you like! Country fried steak was at least average, but sadly not the best :-). Corn beef hash is from a can - just the way Eric likes it. Make sure you put $.50 in the Merrionette box and watch the band play in the hallway... And if no one is looking, there's about 1000 yummy things that check out that would love to be taken home. If Eric was not there, I have certainly had a cream horn-it's been 20 years since my last one...all the closet eater's out there know what I'm talking about :). The final great thing to say about this restaurant is it kids do eat free! All the food we ever wanted cost us about 20 bucks - this was a very good choice.

Had angel hair pasta With chicken and asparagus (it was the best) Olive Garden or Red lobster doesn't even have that !!! The salad bar was awesome !! But the 0007 burger was ok kind of dry:( but the fries were excellent !! Thank you! For sure we will visit more!! I just didn't like that we had to wait like 30-40min:(

  • Michael B.

Do not be scared of the fact that this place is a truck stop. Everything about this place is the exact opposite of what you would think about a truck stop. The actual restaurant is huge... it seems like it just goes on forever! I have been here many times, and even on a Sunday morning I have never had to wait for a table. The decor in the restaurant is very cool. Lots of old timey retro toys and such. And each month they have a different theme, and the wait staff dresses up based on whatever the theme for the month is. The food is always great. Comes out fresh and piping hot. They have amazing pancakes! The bakery is also excellent. They have so much stuff to choose from.

I had a skillet and my man an omelet both were very good. Our waitress was very friendly as was the other staff, they all interacted with the customers and made ya feel like family. Will return would like to try dinner.

Great selection, great specials, nice atmosphere, good portions, good service and excellent food. I wish there was a place like this everywhere I travel. Funny thing is I have been in Morris many times over the past 12 years and I never knew this place was here. Once again I thank Yelp and all the Yelpers that speak the truth. This place is located at a truck stop but it's unlike any truck stop I've ever been to.

I have been going here for years! All of the food here that I have tried (love the omlettes!) is amazing... I love the antique decorations on the walls, the ceiling, and most of all -- in the shadowbox tables. The place has great charm, and the wait staff are very friendly. I actually come out here for my birthday breakfast now for a few years, and will be going there on my next. The place is a truck stop, and you enter through a gas station. I realize that doesn't seem like a classy joint, but ignoring all of the 500-lb truckers, you'll walk past a Quizno's and finally get to the restaurant. One side is a trucker's lounge, and the other is the seating area for guests. I have heard a few years ago that Travel America had bought out the location, but thankfully nothing has changed there -- the food is still amazing as ever and the decor has stayed the same.

I have been eating at R-Place since I was a little girl, and I know that the food and service has really gone downhill. It's the best place in Morris for some late night food, but it is a little pricey for what you get. Stick to simple things like a burger and fries, fried apps, and fried chicken.

  • Carolyn H.

Chose this place because of Yelp reviews. Would never have stopped at a restaurant in a truck stop otherwise. If I could, I"d give it 3.5 stars. Very extensive menu, with a lot of popular items. Very tasty breads and baked goods. Husband had a giant salad - he could only eat half. I had a turkey avocado wrap that was more like a chopped salad in a very soft tortilla - also very tasty, and came WITH fresh fruit. Prompt, friendly service. Quirky atmosphere - lots of antique toys under glass tabletops in the booths. Had no room to taste the desserts, but they looked amazing. I bookmarked this place for a return visit.

Love the antique and collectible decor here. This place was hoppin when we got there. I asked the waitress if this place was always busy and she said yes! Food was good and very fresh! We will definetly be back again. I did think the prices were kind of high for a truck stop though. Fried chicken looked good so I'll get that next time!

Me and my family love eating here they have great food, good service and you get pretty quick, they have a really good salad bar and a bakery that's awesome love the cream puffs. Try the five pound burger challenge, my fiance has tried twice and failed.

Been to this place a few times since the 80's. The food is not bad. Typical truck stop. I would not go out of my way to eat here, our most recent visit was very frustrating! The waitress clearly forgot about us as we waited entirely too long for our food. Then when I asked for it, suddenly it was ready?! We think it was sitting under the heat lamp for a while. She was snotty too. Shawna, I think. The other waitress that stopped at our table was really nice. Also it took forever to just get my coffee. Some of the decor is really cute, with all the old antique toys, but then it completely clashes with the 80's wall paper and then they have state flags hanging from the ceiling. Which is cool, but has nothing to do with the toys or floral wall paper. Who decorated this place? Dessert was good, but there was also an extremely long wait. What was our waitress doing anyway?? They say new owners took over. Could be what was wrong. If I had seen a manager I would have complained. But there was no one coming around asking if everything was ok! Kind of a low class joint.

Nothing spectacular. The food is below average but the service makes up for it. The staff is extremely friendly. This place is somewhere you go for the experience rather than the food.

I was in town visiting family and had the opportunity to come here for breakfast. I got a skillet with potatoes, mushrooms, onions, ham, cheese, topped with two poached eggs. The skillet was tasty, but what kind of ruined it for me was the fact that they used canned mushrooms instead of fresh. Yuck! I had to pick them out. Service was okay - I had to wait a while for my check. It looked like they were one of the only places open on Christmas in Morris, which was a plus. I would definitely try it again.

I would give them 53 stars if I could. I tried and conquered the Ethyl Burger challenge here and it was great food. I even had a slice of cheesecake afterward and it was great too. My buddy ate a tenderloin he enjoyed and his son had the all you can eat pancakes. It's a great restaurant with lots of neat stuff for people it isn't a trucker type place. Lots of desserts cakes pies cookies cheesecake you can buy whole and take home. It's about 2 hours from home but will tell people if they ask from around where I live. Kids eat free everyday it said I don't know the ages on that if you're local to there you probably visit a lot. For a quarter you can watch marionettes in a machine. It's beyond me but it'll entertain folks I swear. They're just a block north of I-80. There was a salad bar which I might've tried if I didn't have a 4 pound burger to eat. Go here someday.

Love love love. Always stop here on my drive from Chicago to the heartland when visiting family. The salad bar is cute and perfect and makes me feel like "home". The bakery is lovely! I'll be back again in a few months, can't wait for my pit stop perfect lunch!

When I heard it was in a truck stop I was a little skeptical, boy was I WRONG! The food, the service and the atmosphere were all amazing. I wanted to try a few different things so I went for the pretzel sticks which come with a cheese sauce to dip it that was very well prepared. I asked for a recommendation from the server and it was the chicken pot pie. It was more than enough for one person. It comes in a porridge pot like bowl and was golden brown on top and steaming hot inside. Wish I would have saved room for dessert!

Updating my last review. We went here two days ago for breakfast. It took 20 min for them to take our drink order, ten min to bring out coffee and water and take our food order, and over 30 min to bring eggs and bacon. It actually wasn't that busy for a Sunday, though I suspect most people were at the Corn Fest parade. Anyways, food was bland. Biscuits and gravy were greasy and soggy. Bacon was good. Eggs were eggs. It wasn't anything special and the wait times were ridiculous.

  • Ross W.

Waited for nothing, literally. As a trucker I came in for a hot meal after a long day. I was seated very promptly, handed a menu, & a minute later was asked my drink order by a waitress. That's all I got. That's it. I was never brought my drink. Nobody ever came to take my order. Other tables were being waited on. I was left abandoned. After about 15 minutes I got up and walked out. I'll take my business and money elsewhere. And I did, right across the street to Chili's. Wish I could give zero stars because that's exactly how much service I received, zero.

It was very nice to have dinner here. Just as we remembered it from yeara ago! We love the bakery and all the local art on display. We will be returning again soon. The wait staff was excellent and everything we ordered was delicious too! Great job on the cleanliness of the entire place!

Love the atmosphere of this place. I use to come here all the late night with friends and the staff was always friendly. Went here today for lunch and it's still the same. Wait staff was nice as they can be. The food was fresh and hot...we started out with boneless bbq wings...I didn't really care for the bbq sauce to much..we also ordered the mac & cheese bites...YUMM!!! Then for lunch I had the cheesy cheese burger...soo good all the cheese was melted as it should be. I would recommend this place to anyone...Don't be scared because it's in a truck stop...it's all good!!

Lots to choose from on the menu and between the two of us everything was fantastic. The decor was very cool and nostalgic. I had cinnamon roll French toast with cream cheese blueberry filling, scrambled eggs, two link sausage, fruit cup, and I was happy.

The place is nice inside and excellent pastries but I ordered hash browns and bacon and the hash browns common store type and warm at best small portion for 2.75 and 4 strips of cold hard bacon for 2.75. Very ripped off never will I order breakfast here again.

Oh R-Place where do I begin? I really have a love/hate relationship with this restaurant. I live in Morris and have been here several times dine in and take out. First off, I really HATE that you have to walk through a gas station to get to the restaurant. It just gives you that "eww-gross" feeling. Not a good feeling right before you are going to eat! The breakfast portions are HUGE! You will not leave hungry! I promise. Had the breakfast buffet and there were many different choices! Very good. Came here for lunch that included the salad bar. Stale croutons and not so appealing choices. Disappointed Had take out twice poor boy sandwiches. Great the first time. Different the 2nd. Wish it was more consistent! Kids eat for cheap which is awesome, as I have 6 kiddos! Happy kids=happy mama! The décor...ugh I LOVE antiques and collect antiques but this is overkill. It just gives a dirty, dark and dusty atmosphere. Not a fan. Just doesn't feel clean right along with the green carpet. They really need to make a separate entrance. Truckers might not care. But families do when you have to pass a not so appealing "section" of naughty items.

Some people think trick stops are gross, but let me tell you, these places have some of the best food! The boy and I were up really late and hungry. Neither one of us felt like cooking so we made the 21 mile drive to Morris to check this place out! Very clean inside, and the bakery display looked amazing! I also kinda liked the whole Mardi Gras theme that this restaurant had. The booths were very cool. The tables were made of glass and filled with all kinds of nostalgia from the 40's through the 60's. The menu is very extensive and will make your head swim. )R-Place has a $21 burger which is 4 pounds and if you Finish it it's free!) I'm addition to the regular menu items there are some that were temporary. All sorts of Louisiana inspired offerings- one being fried alligator which I LOVE! You know I ordered it only to hear a cook yell across the restaurant 10 minutes later that they were out. The boy ordered pork chops with mashed potatoes, and they had no potatoes. Only fries. #Fail. The waiter told me the fried Mac and cheese was good so I went for it. Sounds too fattening an yummy right?? Deep frying makes everything taste good!! Helll you could probably deep fry a turd and it would be the best dookie you ever ate! Haha lol #StopIt I know just kidding! The boy ordered pork chops, fries, and chicken tenders. He eats like a pig, but im the one that's chunky. Don't you hate people like that? Anyhow let's get down to business. The Mac and cheese was very good! After a few bites though it got to be just a tad too rich for me! You know I went into the boys food and tasted his pork chops. They were grilled and very good. The fries were F*cking amazing. Excuse my language but I wanted to slap my mama. Better yet I wanted to go dig up my granny and slap her! :-) I would go back just for fries! We were pretty stuffed, and the boy ordered a hot fudge sundae. That sundae was massive!! He ate some, and I finished it. I know I said I was full, but you know I wasn't leaving that shit there lol! You definitely get your money's worth here! They are open 24 hours! Check em out! Until next time y'all!!

I grew up in Morris and this has always been the go-to place for my friends and me. Most recently, they catered the food for our wedding dinner and it was delicious! We had the Italian beef, mac & cheese, and salad plus they made our wedding cake. It was all perfect, excellent, and fairly priced! They went above and beyond to make us happy!

Very disappointed. Ate there tonight with my wife and our daughter's family. Dined at 6:30 PM and they were out of Alfredo sauce and their special - pork chops. Salad bar was good as usual but not much else.

This place is great! Get past the truck stop stereotype and go in here and order anything and it will be good. They have a good wait staff and after the meal their desert options are pretty amazing. Thumbs up all the way!

R Place is our go-to breakfast place on Sundays. Our kids love the décor - especially the puppets as you walk in. My only "wish" is for a more quality brand of coffee (but I may be a bit of a coffee snob). Overall, the service is great and the food is delicious! Heard great things about the pies/bakery as well.

I would never have stopped in if it weren't for the other reviews. I avoid truck stop food because of too many bad experiences. This was delightful. Clean, fresh salad bar, extensive menu with loads of home made bakery items. They're running a bakery inside a truck stop!! I had a chicken pot pie. Home made crust, rich and thick broth, big chunks of white meat chicken. Hearty and tasty and would have it again. don't let your experience with other truck stops keep you away - this place is awesome.

I was contemplating who would be my lucky one-hundy review when I was shocked to discover I had never reviewed R-Place! I have been coming to this place since I was a wee tot as we used to live down in the area. Now whenever we go to visit friends & family or are traveling along 80W on our way to Starved Rock State Park we must stop here...even if we aren't hungry. Even though they are no longer owned by the Romine family I am still a huge fan. I give R-Place 5 stars for the following reasons: -If you aren't familiar with R-Place it is located in a truck stop. Yup, right off Route 80 at Route 47 in Morris. This is the best truck stop restaurant I have ever visited and I have visited quite a few in my travels. Do not turn up your nose at the location. When you first walk in you will be in the typical truck-stop section...do not turn back in fear! Keep moving to the right side of the building to get to the restaurant. Your bravery will be rewarded. -Having eaten here hundreds of times I can count on one hand the number of times the food was not so great. That's a pretty good percentage as every place and every person has an off day. Even when the food wasn't great it was never bad...it was just okay on those occasions. Hubby and I are huge fans of their fried chicken, the most delicious meal after a day spent hiking at Starved Rock. They also have the huge hubcap pork tenderloin sandwiches which are a standard of the area...yum! Our family has also been tempted to order and share their enormous "Ethyl Burger" - I don't recall how many pounds it is but I've seen it and it is HUGE. I saw a family of 6 sharing it once and I don't think they finished it. The restaurant even has a challenge for a single person ordering and finishing the burger is a certain amount of time. The entrees all come with the salad bar and portions are typically large so expect to waddle back to your car or truck. -Same as the above for the service. The majority of the time you will get an upbeat and friendly server and I can't recall a time where we've ever had anyone be rude. The times I haven't had the most attentive service is when the place is packed, which is understandable. -The Bakery! Oh yes, the bakery counter at the checkout deserves it's own category separate from the rest of the food. Gigantic cream puffs, gorgeous cakes, homemade fudge (I'm not a fudge person but other family members have deemed it delectable), delicious muffins, cupcakes, etc. For such a small bakery counter they sure pack a lot of sweet wonderful goodness in there! -The decor! It's filled with all kinds of old toys...I'm talking antiques! If you are lucky enough to score a booth you are in for a special treat. Each table in the booth is a shadow box filled with all kinds of antique toys to wonder over. From old Buck Rogers comic books to vintage Mickey Mouse dolls and G.I. Joe's you will have plenty to look at and talk about. They also have a FABULOUS puppet show display on the right as you walk into the restaurant. It's very old and occasionally is in need of repair but it's still fun to look at. Sometimes it even works when you put a quarter in...all the members of the puppet band dance and "play" their instruments. It's quite charming. (There's a poor quality video of it on YouTube if you care to check it out...just search for R Place Morris puppet) -The decor, part 2! They also love to decorate for different seasons, holidays, local events, etc. So on top of the antique toys around the restaurant you will usually find some additional decorations - sometimes cheesy, but always fun. It adds to the small town homey-ness of it all. -The restaurant has always been clean and they recently renovated both the restrooms on the restaurant side. The restaurant is also divided in two - to the right in the regular dining room and to the left is the diner-style counter and eating area for truckers on the go. If you find yourself passing through this area I highly recommend stopping by. Even if you aren't hungry come on in and check it out...you'll most likely end up taking something with you from the bakery anyway. We've introduced friends who have come along hiking with us to this place and they are now fans as well. It's well worth the detour!

Always a fun time! Great late night place.....actually, I don't think I've ever gone when the sun's out, haha! Even when the staff is rude, the food is good. When the food is a bit "under the weather," the staff makes up for it. It's a give and take kinda place, an above par truck stop restaurant, and lots too look at in the antique collection.

Five stars for the decor and baked goods! The combination of music and kitsch made the experience an enjoyable road trip break. Try the homemade cinnamon rolls. Still drooling over that frosting. The food, however, left much to he desired. Three stars for the food. The avocado in my omelette was brown and the food as a whole was a little on the bland side.

I had a friend form out of state want to try some crazy food before he left, so naturally the st thing I thought about was the 4lbs Ethyl burger at R-Place. Having been on this merry go round before I waited till I was bout 15 minutes out all called ahead to order the burger (it takes about 40 minutes to cook) and asked them to load the burger up with everything, lettuce, tomato, pickle and onions! We arrived and informed the wait staff of our presence took a booth and where served the most visually obnoxious burger I have ever seen, we cut it up into corners but was it was to big fit in one mouth so we had to cut it up and eat with silverware, after 1/4 of the burger I was done and did not eat again till lunch the next day. if one is to go in and eat the burger in 60 minutes by themselves they get it for free, since we split the burger it was $21.99 still a fair deal and it reasonably feed 4 people. The restaurant was clean quiet and entertaining, our waitress was gullible and teased her a bit all in good fun, I will be back again for another adventure someday, I always have fun every time I come in.

Big portions.... food was good. I had the skillet and it was yummy. So much food though. My parents love this place, so I got to try all of this out. I will return.

Foods great when you can get what you want. Most of the menu you can't get after 10p.m., you can't even get mashed potatoes after 10p.m. Staff is terrible management treats you like your a waste of time when you try to talk to them.

Classiest truck stop you'll ever visit. Great food, great salad bar with fresh in house baked breads. Everything's good and the place is clean. Love stopping here.

This place has some pretty good chicken if thats what you are after. I have had some good sandwiches here, and also some good fries. The service always seems a little slow as far as refilling drinks, or bringing out things they may have forgotten with your order. Oh! And if you like looking at things on the wall, this is your place! All in all, it's pretty good for a truck stop!

Excellent turkey/bacon wrap - - - you can never go wrong when you add bacon to a meal. I could not skip the warm apple pie drizzled in carmel and topped with vanilla ice cream. It was excellent. Apparently the bakery was schooled by a German pastry chef and they learned their lessons well. The bakery had numerous items for sale at the check-out counter - - - the turtle brownie jumped into my car before I got out of the place!

So eating at a truck stop definitely isn't my idea of spending a Friday night. This is partly because truck stop food has a tendency to be nasty. But based on a recommendation of my coworker, this place was a must stop for excellent food. We get here at around 5pm and the place is packed. In fact it was so packed that they needed to open up another room. The decor is very old timey with vintage ads and toys all over the place. I'm going to admit it though: those dolls and puppets are a little unnerving, especially when they're hanging from the ceiling and you're trying to eat. That just trigger a phobia in me. Yikes! On to the eats. The menu is pretty extensive. They even have the "Ethyl" burger challenge which is basically 4 pounds of burger to eat in under an hour. If I had my Man v. Food pants on I might have tackled that. But I played it safe and ordered the pub fried cod with fries. This came with a salad bar trip as well. Now one small observation: you could order the fried cod on special for $12.99 or go with pub fried cod for $11.99. They both came with the same sides and salad bar. The breading looked the same on both as well. So who knows what's that about. The salad bar is pretty good. It's tucked in a corner and the bar (they call it "vintage") itself is small, but the choices they have are delicious. You have your typical lettuce and toppings but the homemade potato and pasta salads are also worth a try. No wonder there is line to get some food. Their breads are also excellent. Everything from banana nut to cornbread is on board. Plus cinnamon butter to boot. That equals heaven. The fried cod was awesome. Nicely cooked and flavorful. It wasn't a victim of being overcooked or too soggy. Like Goldilocks....just right. I decided to have fries with brown gravy on top and I could've had a meal of them alone. The fries were really crunchy, almost like a batter dipped fry with yummy brown gravy. So good and so truck stopish (in a good way). We also had an excellent waitress, Jaimie. She was able to cover six tables (two tables with 8+ people) and still managed to get everyone's dinner, drinks refilled, etc. She needs to teach a class because this is a rare talent. Kudos to her! One thing though, I thought the food would be a little cheaper. The dinners ranged from $11-20 to $8-10 for a sandwich. And the cost of soda was a bit high at $2.69 for a glass (refills though). So two fish dinners and two sodas ran around $30. I considered that a bit high for a truck stop but the proof is in the quality of food. Higher prices equal better food. R Place is definitely a great place to grab a bite whether on the road or just out wandering around.

If you happen to be driving near this area, it's a great little spot. We found an estate sale to visit and we asked where to get a 'good cheap lunch'. Everyone agreed that R place was the place to go. One person described it as a 'classy truckstop'. I think that is fitting. They have a small salad bar, but it included homemade baked fruit bread and the usual salad toppings, but the homemade potato salad really topped it off. I was even impressed with their 'younger' staff when we found out their washrooms were closed. They were very polite and helpful. Unfortunately, you don't always find that with our teen generation.

It pains me to have to leave such a lower the review for this awesome restaurant however I think quality have gone to shit and they need a fire the entire crew the waitresses are rude and indignant the food sucks and I'm be in pleasant and using my verbage as well because I had ice cold chicken my wife and ice cold turkey then when I brought it to the waitresses attention she asked me what I wanted to do hey stupid I want my food right especially for what I was paying this was my birthday lunch that my wife was taking me out for I love their fried chicken and the last two times including this time I've had it it has absolutely been terrible it was busy but that's no excuse your food always came out quick right and pleasant service now you wait forever you get talked to like you're on welfare and when you ask it to be fixed you're wrong there right I got up from my table to talk to a manager took 10 minutes for the manager to come talk to me I said I wanted my order fixed she said she'd take care of it I sat down looking at my disgusting plate of lousy food our waitress came over and asked if we wanted our check I said I was waiting for my chicken in a rude tone she said but you realize that it's going to take 20 to 25 minutes for fresh chicken she took it off the bill meaning the manager well of course you're going to take it off the bill you're going to cook me fresh chicken so she hopped off to go get me fresh chicken after about 10 minutes I just finally gave up we got up walked out but not before I had to spend $20 on two drinks and my wife's turkey dinner which again was cold which again they didn't fix either so we ended up spending another $40 eating at a local eatery near our home I won't ever stop back in there again I might try breakfast one last time but this last dinner left a lousy taste in my mouth I don't know if it's because they sold out to a TA truck stop place and it's no longer family owned but everything was absolutely horrible even the desserts in the case look old and nasty my recommendation try another local eatery suggestively Maria's right down the road the opposite direction their fried chicken is delicious and we had our wedding reception there if I could give it a negative 5-star review I would that's how upset and disgusted I am with this place I hope that more people leave shitty reviews maybe they'll get the hint it's been a family staple in Morris for a lot of families and unfortunately the TA people are obviously taking advantage of that which is extremely sad it now has gone from a nice restaurant to a crappy truck stop food place which is really sad I've taken several of my old girlfriends there including my new wife now and its just sick to see the decline in quality food my suggestion is they fire their entire staff that's been there for years as I've been told it's time to clean house get good quality cooks and servers back in there and get rid of the trash that's now working there

Yelp keeps bugging me to write a review so here goes... This is your typical family restaurant and it's pretty good. Don't let the truck stop part fool you. The food usually arrives pretty fast and the service is fair. For the price, service, and food, they get 4 stars.

R Place is a staple for my family. No matter where we are in the world or how many years pass, we always come back. Before tonight, the last time I was here was 16 years ago when I was 15. Tonight it was the same, but more refined. This is not a standard truck stop type of place. In my opinion, it is very one of kind. The thing that will stick out the most in this place is the atmosphere and the kind of stuff that decorates it. It is a lot of old toys and old memorabilia. Most of the gadget toys still work! Look I can go on and on about this place. I love it and have a lot of very good memories here. I'll just speak about the food. The food is all made from scratch. In fact, there is a bakery on site. My wife is Japanese and not too keen on American style food so much, but she came away very impressed. She made the comment that it was the best restaurant she had ever been to in the US. I asked her why and she said that everything tasted homemade and the atmosphere. I had the fried chicken and I was impressed. The chicken was very fresh and the breading was not over powering. If this were a fried chicken joint, I would be a little disappointed in the breading, but to me it is very comparable to Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles in the LA area. I enjoyed it just fine. You can expect some pretty fresh ingredients here in just about anything you eat and that goes a long way. You don't get the canned taste that you do at some places. Its legit. Obviously, I'm a pretty biased person to ask, but I would of course recommend this place to anyone.

Looks awesome today. Can't wait for my Pearl Harbor burger. Burger, fried egg, ham and cheese between two grill cheese sammiches. Yum. Where the nearest cardiac care unit?

First time going there, everything checked out. I loved the menu and my burger, the whole atmosphere is awesome, our table had a little Pillsbury Dough Boy doll in it, it was awesome. Waitress was really polite and friendly, variety of burgers is great. Same with the fries. They have like 5 different kinds of everything here. If you're ever thinking about trying their Philly cheese steak there, TRY IT. So amazing.

open 24/7. the coffee is delish so are their wraps. This place is great especially at 2 am when the creeps come out. The best truck station restaurant in America. Also the place is full of nostalgic american culture hanging all over the place.

We used to really like R-Place until it was bought out and became part of a chain. They have maintained the menu as it was when it was locally owned but the portion size and attention to detail is gone now. They used to have a cute little gift shop with unique boutique-type merchandise. When they filled the main glass display with cartons of cigarettes, I knew it would never be the same. Now the gift shop is a convenience store, the food is meh and the service is hit or miss at best.

This place is pretty whatever in my book. The food is run of the mill semi-fancy quality. I had the bacon burger and the potato skins. Needless to say they were anything to rave about. The atmosphere in this place is fantastic though. I really wonder where they found so many of those little trinkets.I also want to point out the bakery goods they have there are generally fresh out of the kitchen and the fudge is amazing. So if you aren't staying for a full meal make sure you grab some cup cakes and some fudge for the road. Crazy Fox says 4 of 5

My wife and I visit this restaurant pretty regularly through the winter. We're both pretty particular when it comes to food, and these guys rarely disappoint. Some highlights include the buffalo chicken fingers with blue cheese, the seasonal German platters, and the wonderful assortment of breads and pastries. Also, the service is wonderful! Whether you're passing through or a local out for a meal, I recommend it.

1st of all, kids eat free so that's awesome. I went with my son and besides the wait time to be seated, the food was quite good. I ordered the New York burger and they cooked it perfectly.

WOW, has this place gone down hill since its no longer owned by the Romines. We went in for a late night meal and the place was FILTHY! Food and napkins on the floor that no one could bother to pick up. And when they got out the hand sweeper they started pushing it around kicking up dirt right next to a table where people where eating. The food on the salad bar was tasteless. Some green mint-choc. chip stuff that was so gross. I had the deep fried cod or I should say fried batter and no cod. Not a big fan of those battered fries either but thats what they have. The hash browns looked pretty good though. In the last few years since it was bought by Travel Center it really has become a dive of a truck stop restraunt. For the price which is extremly high I will take my money somewhere else.

Never had a bad meal here. Ask to sit in one of the booths along the windows so you can check out the toys and memorabilia from the past. You'll find yourself saying "I had one of those."

Occasionally I find myself in Morris. (Insert joke here.) This place is in a truck stop, and I am all for truck stop food on a long drive. (You can take a shower and shoot video game deer here too. I love America.) But this restaurant also bakes its own bread and sweet things (brownies, etc.) which are for sale at the counter. The space is filled with antiques, and clearly this collection is a labor of love, like it or not. Most importantly, however, the food is quite tasty (at our table: vegetable beef soup, tuna croissant, godfather sandwich, burger, seasoned fries) and most importantly for a truck stop....good coffee. Gordon Ramsay would lose his...mind...at the 500 or so items on the multiple page menu, and the decor would frighten him as well, if we are judging by his standards. But we're not. I do think, however, that the disturbing marionettes--(is that redundant?) which look as if they've been hung for some unmentionable crimes--will turn up in a future nightmare, but life is full of risks, right?

I have been going to R-Place since I was a kid. The place is open 24 hours a day and brings in quite a range of patrons: truckers (as it is a truck stop on I-80), high school kids in the afternoon until midnight or so, mid twenty-somethings to middle age patrons succumbing to their beer munchies after the bars close, the church crowd on Sunday mornings, and the older generations early in the morning. There is a decent selection of food. Breakfast is served all day long. The Louisiana skillet is one of my favorites. The wraps are decent, my favorite being the chicken BLT wrap. The two app deal is nice- seriously recommend the Mac & cheese wedges! Beer is served throughout the day (cuts off early, however) and there is rarely a wait (mostly on Sunday after church). But the coffee is seriously where it's at! Also contains a gift shop (expensive), a Quizno's Subs, a small arcade, a gas station, and automotive supply shop.

The food and service is fine by me, but the cashier has twice rolled her eyes at me for leaving a 15% tip. I guess its split with them also. Bring lots of money!

Excellent, and at a truck stop no less. I drive a truck for a living and it isn't as it used to be, eat where you see the truckers eat. Nowadays the food at truck stops is not fresh, bad tasting and lets just say 24 hours later you wish you didn't R-Place is decorated with antique toys, and has the bliss of a fine restaurant. There is seating for just us "greasy truck drivers" and seating for the family on the other side. From what I could tell they have quite a few regulars that drop in. Also, the wait staff is kind, well dressed.

I love this place I have literally been going here since I was born. My grandparents had a summer home close by and we would stop on either the way to or from the house. I personally love the grilled cheese and that is what I always get. I also love that it is 24 hours and the waitresses are always nice considering they are working around the clock. The decor is cute and vintage and is a safe and family friendly place to stop if you are looking for something off the highway.

R Place has never been a place to serve any type of quality. Period. Eight of us went after a get together only because one person wined about going and a few others have never been here. This is not my first experience and recently having come here a few times in the last 12 months. It will be my last. The last meal I had was way over cooked and others were not happy with the taste either. A few of us ordered the all you can eat chicken for $10.99. The salad bar has not gotten any better, it's pretty unimpressive, which makes the $ 6.99 price for salad bar only, high. Those of us that ordered the chicken asked for all dark meat. The first batch we received was sent back. We did not receive all dark meat and the meat was overcooked and dry. It would now take another 12 minutes for a new batch. The next batch would have killed us as it was still bleeding. Go for a third round, after 35 minutes of waiting to eat. At this point we were not happy, it was getting late. The waitress was asked for a to go box and to put down more chicken to take with us. Another ordered chili, which I was shocked as I thought she ordered tomato soup of some sort. From the looks of it, it was all liquid. Others ordered the pot pie and while it looked really good, there was hardly any substance to the filling.

R-Place is one of the reasons why I love the midwest, and how hilarious I think farming communities are (Morris still has that feel, unlike Plainfield which is where I grew up). It's in places like this, where you can see some 18 year old kid try and down a 4lb hamburger, which, if you do, I guess it's free ... but man, cliche as it is, it's just fun to watch. Plus R's all you can eat fried chicken? Awesome ... it's fresh, and they actually serve you HUGE portions of chicken.

Another one of my and my boyfriend's favorite places to get late-night coffee. We love to bring a laptop and sit and hang out with our coffee cups till 2 or 3AM some nights. The servers are very friendly and welcoming, and the food is good. We usually go for the chicken quesadilla when the midnight snack attack hits!

This place is a very popular spot in the Morris area and once you have experienced it you will understand why it is so popular. This place is right off the highway at I80 and IL47. When you walk in you are greeted by a huge map of the US filled with push pins. If you are not from the area, you get a push pin from the cashier and you mark where you are from. From looking at the map, this place is know by many people through out the country. First off, I had to give major kudos to our server. I am thinking that this was probably some of the best service I have ever received at a restaurant. She was really super efficient, sincerely friendly and really seemed to me on the same telepathic mental wavelength with us. We didn't have to ask her for a thing, She was one step ahead of us all of the time. I ordered the three cheese chicken bake and Lara had the chicken and ribs combo. My meal was good but nothing that knocked me off my feet. I sampled some of Lara's ribs and chicken and it was excellent. The meat on the rids just fell off the bone, and the chicken was perfectly cooked, the breading was delicious and the meat was tender and juicy. For desert we split a pineapple bread pudding which was AMAZING! I used to live not to far from here and I used to go up here a couple time a month. I wish I was in this area more often just because of this place. The decor is very retro with all kinds of old nostalgic things on display. If you are feeling hungry, this place offers a four yes count 'em four pound burger!

5 stars for this genre of eating. I feel weird having eaten at Everest and giving R-Place 5 stars, but for diner food this is a great place. Plus the bakery is very good, too. We took some rye bread and a pineapple bread that was really just a pineapple upside down cake in loaf form home and they were a hit. We alway get the Big Ethyl, and I'm always surprised at how good it tastes. It's not just a silly, funny eating experience, it truly tastes good. My brother and I took my kids and nephew most recently and the waitress even took our picuture with an R-Place camera and printed two pictures for us without us asking for it or paying for it; that was kind of sweet and good customer service. Needless to say the monstrous burger makes kids laugh. Especially with the popularity of Man Vs. Food, it's kind of fun to take them somplace where they can experience the sight even if they're splitting the burger. Where does that huge bun for the burger come from? Their own bakery. It's easy to overlook a hamburger bun, but this is fresh and custom make for this burger- so good. The fries are batter dipped and really good, too. Everything is really clean and well appointed for a truck stop diner, too. The wood work throughout is really amazing. So if it's diner fair you're in the mood for and you're in the area, I would definitely check this place out.
