We were traveling to St. Louis before Xmas, and stopped to grab something fast (via drive-thru). My wife and I both got the patty melt, which was GREAT! The rye bread was a bit strong, but otherwise it was one of the best I've had. The fries were very good and were seasoned with what seemed to be a sea salt/black pepper/? blend. Very good! The kids ordered chicken fingers and even those were better than average. My wife still claims that they have the very best Diet Dr. Pepper from a fountain -- they must have the mix just right or something. We were impressed enough that we stopped on the way back home as well about a week later and got ice cream. The kids got sundaes, and I ordered a chocolate shake. Everything was very good quality and I plan to try one of their specialty shakes next time. Some in our party went inside to use the restrooms and commented that the inside of the location was very clean. They have a nicely varied menu (approximate to a Steak-n-Shake kind of place), and I thought the pricing was pretty good in comparison to other such places. Definitely recommend! This will be a regular stop for us now whenever we travel south.

I was driving from Chicago along I-57 towards Evansville and was really craving a burger and fries. I had heard of this rapidly expanding chain and luckily there was an outlet exactly halfway on my route. The interior is reminiscent of a squeaky clean 50s diner--for some reason, I thought of the Back to the Future diner in Hill Valley that Marty visits in the 50s. I had the classic burger and fries, though I respect that they have Vienna dogs and a great selection of milkshakes and ice cream. Instantly, this place is positioning itself into the same niche as Culver's and Steak n Shake--Midwest fast food. The burger itself was dry, not bad but not very memorable either. The fries soak in the grease really well by virtue of their small size, but they easily break when you try to dip it in their "fry sauce" (basically a thousand island variant). I would just eat them plain. One plus is the great value, slightly better than the aforementioned restaurants. So in short, this place won't replace Culver's for my fast food affections (that butterburger is just on a different level imo), but it's on par with Steak n Shake, without resorting to the gimmicks that SnS does.

Needs to be more like a 3.5 actually. Burgers are great, don't care for the fries, personal preference for sure. Good service.

This place is alright but I feel as though its pretty much just another carbon copy of Steak N Shake. The fry sauce is awesome, though, and they do give you a more generous portion of fries than Steak N Shake...but those are really the only unique qualities it has. I do not recall them having as much variety as far a burgers go on the menu, neither. It really just boils down to if you care more about the fries, go to Freddy's, but for burgers you may as well just go across the street to Steak N Shake.

Food is good. We had burgers and fries. No one is cleaning tables or emptying trash. You should never be too busy to keep the place clean.

If you like Steak n' Shake ' s paper thin burgers and their blah cold fries you should just go there, sit down, relax and let the waitress help you. At Freddy 's you'll get the same food at a higher price and there's no wait staff.

Good food and good service. We are a family of 4 and we can all eat for $20. We have spent at least 25-30 at McDonalds. The great choices of ice cream make it hard to just have dinner.

Very good. Very good. Hot dogs rock and the cheeseburgers are delicious. Best french fries I've had in a long time.

As a Chicago native who lived in Utah, what is better than a place that has fry sauce and Vienna Hot Dogs? I had a #7 combo which includes a Vienna Hot Dog, a hamburger and fries with a drink. The hot dog was amazing and can get whatever you want on it. The bun was amazing. The hamburger is fresh and the bun was nice and soft. A single burger is kind of skimpy, so I might get a double next time, but with this combo a single was fine. The only problem with the meal was the dreaded, ultra-thin Steak N' Shake-style shoestring fries. If they had regular fries it would be better. Still, they have free fry sauce! So, for a burger how you like it, a hot dog how you like it, fries and a drink, it only cost $6.99! And, yes, that hot dog is a Vienna as well, not some cheap hot dog! I will definitely visit here again. Good service, good food, clean restaurant. Overall, it was a great experience.

This is an outstanding eatery. I had the Patty Melt with fries. All I can say is that it was as good as I could have hoped for. The concrete wonderful too.

Recommended if you're in the mood for some good comfort food. We were on the road for vacation and happened to be near Mattoon, IL when the hunger pangs kicked in. My wife did a quick search for Yelp recommendations in the area and she picked up on Freddy's so we decided to give it a try (never heard of the place before). The restaurant appeared to be fairly new construction and was quite clean and well organized. You order at the counter from their extensive menu and then you find a place to sit to wait while they prepare your food to order. The food was prepared quickly and tasted great. The burgers tended to be a bit on the greasy side but had excellent flavors. The fries were very good. One of the wait staff came around and befriended our young son and gave him free chocolate custard. I had a taste of it and it was very smooth and creamy with a great rich flavor. We liked the place so much that we sought it out on our return trip home.

Very good burgers and fries. Place was busy but they had staff going around keeping tables clean and helping patrons. A little pricier than most fast food places but quality of food was worth it.

Freddy's is really good and a nice change if pace from the usual fast food places. It is a little more expensive though, but you're getting better quality. The seasoning on their french fries is awesome, I even bought a bottle of it to use at home. If I had a choice I'd choose Culver's, which is very similar, based on the frozen custard and food, but Freddy's is a close second.

This is a great choice for upscale fast food. The the crispy edge cheese burgers are the winner. This location was very clean and the staff was very friendly. The desserts are a great splurge if you can afford the calories.

Get the chocolate brownie delight for dessert. Watch out though the mini version has 1000 calories. Ouch! This small chain is a mix between Culver's and Steak - N - Shake.
