I was visiting town for the weekend and met with local friends for Mexican here, they raved about it. We ordered the Molcajete stew (Shrimp, Chicken and beef), it was delicious. The chips and salsa were great and the service was top notch. I ended up eating here 3 times throughout the weekend and every time, everything was excellent. I will definitely be back!!!
You have to make an effort to screw up Mexican food; it's not rocket science. Thankfully, El Vaquero gets this. However, don't expect just the usual fare from this Midwestern Mexican joint. An inventive menu featuring staples alongside offerings like paella, molcajete and a boatload of seafood torments the indecisive soul. I don't generally like to order ocean munchies too far from said ocean, but I was curious about the seemingly voluminous love for all things salt-watery. I ordered the El Vaquero Seafood plate - grilled fish filled with shrimp, served with rice and grilled vegetables. Cheap at $9.99 and quite good. The shrimp and tilapia were tasty; veggies included broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, lettuce and tomato and there were also mushrooms and onions. I almost didn't want to put sauce on it. But sauce I must. Place is small and was packed when I arrived; a good sign. Service was excellent and atmosphere was strip-mall charming. Quite a nice stop in the heartland. You should make it too.
Food was flavorful, the tacos if you ask for hard give you Taco Bell style taco so for me next time I'll stick to soft. I was assuming hard was fried. Nevertheless food was awesome and prices were definitely fair. I don't live in the area, just passing by to go down south and yelp had great reviews for this place so figure it was worth taking a detour to avoid fast food chains and I'm extremely happy I did. Would visit again

Oh my goodness! Amazing biscuits, juicy chicken and amazing biscuits! Extremely friendly staff and a central location in Mattoon are the reasons why I choose to eat here over any other quick stop place in town.
Was not impressed with their chicken or biscuits. Their red beans and rice is just blah. They are overpriced and there is no drive through.
Was in town for lunch, didn't recognize the chain so I tried it. I prefer to eat locally when I'm on the road but made an exception. Great chicken, tender, juicy, flavorful. Had the 2 piece lunch special and expected something small for the price. Got 2 massive pieces of chicken with 2 sides. Very good value. Place was clean, service fast and the food very good.

County Market is the best place to shop in town. They always have great deals in their weekly ad and the employees there are always friendly! I do have one complaint and that is that they do not stock as many frozen vegetarian items as I would like.

I'm in town for a Sullivan High reunion, and have not before been exposed to Villa. Monical's has always been a reliable area pizzeria, but I'm always seeking a local option, and so Villa it was. The pizza components ranged from good to extremely good, and the ones I considered merely good were matters of taste rather than of quality. For instance, the crust was thicker than I prefer, and there was considerably more cheese than I like. As for the latter, in particular, I could have fixed that with a simple "light cheese" request and, as both of these 'faults' may well be big plusses for someone else, these don't count against the quality. But on to the 'extremely good' category: they make their own sauce, and it shows. This is _not_ out-of-the-can stuff; the herbal flavor is noticeably different (in a very interesting and satisfying way) than any sauce I remember. If you're in Mattoon, give Villa a try!
Excellent Pizza and service. Im from out of town and ordered based on locals recommendations. The Villa special (supreme) was excellent. The delivery was fast and the employees I spoke to were friendly. Would definitely order again!
When I lived in Mattoon, this was probably my favorite restaurant. It was right down the road from my house. I especially liked what they had on the buffet, but I don't think I got to the buffet often, mostly when it was on the weekends, I guess. They also served Italian Beef on the buffet in addition to a wide variety of pizzas, pasta and sauces. Service was always attentive, and the pizza itself is one of my favorites, although for the reason why, I can't say. It just seemed really authentic when compared to a lot of the chain pizzas out there, but with even more "oomph".

We were traveling to St. Louis before Xmas, and stopped to grab something fast (via drive-thru). My wife and I both got the patty melt, which was GREAT! The rye bread was a bit strong, but otherwise it was one of the best I've had. The fries were very good and were seasoned with what seemed to be a sea salt/black pepper/? blend. Very good! The kids ordered chicken fingers and even those were better than average. My wife still claims that they have the very best Diet Dr. Pepper from a fountain -- they must have the mix just right or something. We were impressed enough that we stopped on the way back home as well about a week later and got ice cream. The kids got sundaes, and I ordered a chocolate shake. Everything was very good quality and I plan to try one of their specialty shakes next time. Some in our party went inside to use the restrooms and commented that the inside of the location was very clean. They have a nicely varied menu (approximate to a Steak-n-Shake kind of place), and I thought the pricing was pretty good in comparison to other such places. Definitely recommend! This will be a regular stop for us now whenever we travel south.
I was driving from Chicago along I-57 towards Evansville and was really craving a burger and fries. I had heard of this rapidly expanding chain and luckily there was an outlet exactly halfway on my route. The interior is reminiscent of a squeaky clean 50s diner--for some reason, I thought of the Back to the Future diner in Hill Valley that Marty visits in the 50s. I had the classic burger and fries, though I respect that they have Vienna dogs and a great selection of milkshakes and ice cream. Instantly, this place is positioning itself into the same niche as Culver's and Steak n Shake--Midwest fast food. The burger itself was dry, not bad but not very memorable either. The fries soak in the grease really well by virtue of their small size, but they easily break when you try to dip it in their "fry sauce" (basically a thousand island variant). I would just eat them plain. One plus is the great value, slightly better than the aforementioned restaurants. So in short, this place won't replace Culver's for my fast food affections (that butterburger is just on a different level imo), but it's on par with Steak n Shake, without resorting to the gimmicks that SnS does.
Needs to be more like a 3.5 actually. Burgers are great, don't care for the fries, personal preference for sure. Good service.

I went back here for the second time, it's a nice place. I see lots of folks getting the breaded chicken strips or tenders, although I haven't tried them personally. They're stacked up on the plate when they are served. I had the pork medallion both times I was here. It's served over rice, topped with a mango salsa.
Much like an Applebee's, but with a better bar area. Great for families or to meet up with friends. From steaks to sandwiches to big salads and wraps, I've never found a bad item. I love the Buffalo Chicken wrap that uses chicken strips with Buffalo sauce and veggies. Also try the NY steak and blue cheese salad with the house curry dressing. Great stuff!
Greatest fried chicken of all time. Sweet & heat sauce with cole slaw and a cold beer - 5 stars

We went here for lunch. The service was great, food was good, clean and all around nice. I would like to come back for happy hour...I was told it is great. Will have to check it out! Thanks
Being a connoisseur of Mexican restaurants, I make a point to eat at them when I travel. Many have come close, but none have been as good as Don Sol. This place is the pinnacle of Mexican cuisine. The staff is friendly and has an excellent work ethic. My favorite dish is the steak fajita quesadilla.
