I have passed by this place a million times, and it never crossed my mind to stop here and eat. I am kicking myself in the rear for that line of thinking. This place had really good food. I am still in shock over this. As I never would have guessed it. I mean really, who says hey lets go to the airport for dinner. I was in town for the holidays and my Aunties called and said lets do lunch at the airport. I am really glad they suggested this place. I had the Walleye sandwich and onion rings. The walleye was really good, it needed a touch of salt, but that was an easy fix. The onion rings were kind of odd. They appeared to be homemade, but were a tad strange. They were not really rings, but more like strings. They seemed a tad mushy, I probably wouldn't order those again. The walleye I would for sure order again. I just suggest tasting more often when cooking to make sure you have the proper seasonings while cooking. The pork tenderloin was good too. Those things are huge. 2-3 people could easily split one. The hamburgers weren't too bad either. Plenty of things for everyone to enjoy here.

Who would've guessed? The Airport Steakhouse is actually a popular eatery in Mattoon despite the fact that this is not a commercial airport. Prices are cheap and selections from the menu are plenty but if you have to choose, go for the deep fried mushroom appetizer. This could easily be my next guilty pleasure because I could not stop munching them. Their famous elephant ear pork tenderloin sandwich deserves an honorable mention. It is pork tenderloin patty flattened to a disc the size of a rather large elephant ear and then deep fried, in between two hamburger bun. It sure is nice and crunchy but it could use a little salt. I ordered the shrimp dinner with hash browns but it's nothing great. But definitely try the fried mushrooms!

Beautiful flight over on a clear, record setting warm day in October. So many farmers out bringing in their crops that they looked like boats on a sea of various grains. Our group got a steak, the all-you-can-eat catfish, and one of the tenderloins. We also had two baskets of mushrooms. Everything was just fine been there before and I will go there again.

The pork tenderloins are huge, they cover the plate. Their fried mushrooms are a okay and the waitress is friendly. Very affordable. Decor is all about airplanes.
