Traviata Chocolate & Gelato Café

Big fan of this place - we're here at least once a week in the summer. The gelato outstanding. Flavors change so you can always try something new. This place is worth a visit even if you have to go out of your way.
This is by far my favorite gelato place. Traviata makes their gelato fresh daily and the owner is so sweet. I love that it is a ten minute walk from my house. My mainstays are bacio (a chocolate hazelnut flavored gelato) and coconut, but if I am feeling adventurous I get the five bambino scoops with different flavors. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, but will choose to suffer every now and then because it is so good. On most days he goes for the nice selection of sorbetto and Italian ice which are all dairy free. Most recently she made a chocolate sorbetto, which thrilled my boyfriend. However, we learned that there the little bit of milk in the dark chocolate hurt his tummy, so beware if you are dairy sensitive. They now accept credit cards, which is great, but may be a little pricey compared to Baskin Robbins. The gelato and sorbetto is super delicious, so you get what you pay for.
The 5 mini-scoop sampler is a great way to experience the gelato. It comes with a wafer cookie in the middle. My favorite flavor was the black cherry.

Tanaka Sushi

Reviews:
Spicy pork bulgogi is fantastic - I would travel for it. The ramen is instant ramen noodles in a pretty good broth. My wife was upset that she paid for a dish that had noodles that you could buy for a quarter. I thought it tasted fine, but that's still pretty ridiculous (it was served with the noodles still formed in a block). Not much seating here. We were waiting with our infant for a table to open up and when the first one did, an old couple just walked right in front of us and took it before the people cleared the table. Luckily another table opened up shortly after.
Tanaka Sushi is a great little place for a quick sushi fix. You order at the counter to go or eat in. It's very casual and the sushi quality is quite good. My son comes often and enjoys the bento box. Today we had the tanaka box which is a good deal for $15.99; includes two rolls, sashimi pieces and sushi pieces and miso soup. I highly recommend this sushi place.
The good thing about switching to a job in the burbs is all the "new" places I can try for lunch. I had a hankering for a bento box today and so I found this spot on Yelp and headed over. For only $11, you can get a bento box that includes your choice of beef or chicken teriyaki, miso soup, salad, white rice and a 6 piece California roll - and a soda. I was really impressed by the quality of the chicken - totally fresh and cooked perfectly. I'm not a fan of the normal Japanese salad dressing (too oniony for me), but I ate around the sauce and finished the rest of the meal in no time. The place was busy and most of the tables were full, so I took a spot at the window ledge on a bar stool - very comfortable! I will totally be back and try some of the other items on the lunch menu soon!

Lucky Wok Chinese Restaurant

Reviews:
We had to drop someone off in the area and wanted to bring home Chinese from somewhere different so we looked to Yelp for a recommendation and found it with Lucky Wok. Good choice overall - the place was packed with people early on a Saturday evening (many were Asian/Chinese so that's a great sign the food is authentic). We ordered a big variety of menu items from pot stickers and egg rolls to fried rice and entrees. The stand-outs for us were the egg drop soup, egg rolls and Lucky Wok Cantonese - I really liked that they put the pan fried noodles on top of the other ingredients in the container so they don't get all soggy during transit. We also had sweet n' sour chicken which looked like a double order to me - tons of chicken! The sweet/sour sauce was a bit thick for my taste but delicious anyway. The flavor of the fried rice was excellent but it was a bit dry. Egg rolls were also great but we would have appreciated some sweet/sour and hot mustard sauce for dipping which wasn't included in our bag. We don't live very close but do get the chance to be in the area every now and then and will definitely try Lucky Wok again.
I have ordered delivery online from Lucky Wok numerous times. Not only is the food absolutely delicious but it is crazy hot when it arrives (aka super fresh!!). It typically takes 45 minutes for deliveries on weekends and Fridays (based on my experience). We've started getting the dinner for 2, which could easily be a dinner for 3 or 4 - plenty of leftovers which is fine by me!
I love dumplings and hot and sour soup. The rest of chinese food I can take or leave honestly. So I will focus on what I know- hot and sour soup! We ordered on weekday night for pickup and the order was prompt, and she even gave me more dumpling sauce when I aksed. YEA! the hot and sour soup was really good- different than many of the other places in Lisle as it had red pepper flake in it and was a slightly lighter colored broth. The fire in it was really good as the red pepper gave it a twist! the otehr thing that I thought was intertsing- but didnt order was that they had triple mushroom dishes you could order- i like these straw mushrooms and there is never enough of them in dishes so next time, I think I will try those.

I love this place! Good pizza. Amazing ribs! Great shrimp! Great delivery drivers ! Always fresh hot and delicious! Where is the love for this place. There should be way more reviews and likes!
* Lunchtime Pizza Slice Review If this is voted "The Best Pizza in Lisle", I'll sell you some overpriced "Frog Legs" that taste just like chicken! Or...a glob of sausage and cheese served on a thick slice of day old bread...your choice!
Better than the average fast food pizza joint (Dominos, Papa Johns, etc). Decent pricing and definitely not shy on the toppings. Overall the service is quick and the pizzas taste good!

The Bavarian Lodge

1800 Ogden Ave
Lisle, 60532
Reviews:
This is one of my favorite spots in the area. * They have a great selection of craft beers on draft that are constantly in flux, and a massive list of bottled beers. Alongside the well chosen craft beers you'll find what really counts when it comes to being a German bar, a strong showing of German beers in many varieties. I love being able to try something new from Germany every time I'm here. * The food menu adheres to German traditional pretty well. German food can be a bit singular in its dimensions for me, but let me say that I never pass an opportunity to eat here. It's always delicious. * One of my favorite aspects of the Bavarian Lodge is the atmosphere- cozily dim and warm lighting, lots of dark stained wood, awesome retro German imagery on the walls. Energy level here is usually subdued, peaking at medium high; the mood is always refined. Mostly you'll find an affluent middle age crowd here, with some younger (early 20's) like myself. Staff is very friendly and knowledgable about both menus; I always run a question or two by them about my beer order! * It's slightly expensive, but I would not say overpriced. There aren't many German bars in the burbs; this one happens to be wonderful despite the lack of competition. Side note regarding that: I now live closer to Schnitzel Platz and find it to be decent but inferior to Bavarian lodge. Schnitzel Platz offers maybe a more authentic dinning room layout (think long communal tables, open room) but the prices are higher.
I am of German descent on one side of my family and grew up with homemade schnitzel, German potato salad, and apple wine. I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to this kind of food. I have to say, I came in pretty skeptical. I shouldn't have been, because these guys know what they're doing. First of all, their beer selection is awesome. I had several German beers and they were great. Our appetizer was hot pretzels with Boursin cheese. The salt of the cheese overpowered the flavor, so we asked for, and received, an amazing spicy German mustard. Now we're talkin'. That did it. Great appetizer! Dinner was triple schnitzel (pork, chicken, and a pork/beef combo) over homemade mashed potatoes and a side of some of the best sauerkraut I've had. The different schnitzels were all so good, but the beef/pork was incredibly flavorful. Our party also had beef stroganoff and cabbage rolls with spaetzel. They were also very happy campers. We somehow managed to put away dessert, which was crisp apple strudel (one of my favorite things). Only, it wasn't so crisp. My one complaint about the meal. But, the filling was delicious. The service was impeccable. Our drinks were never empty, our empty plates never sat on the table for more than a minute or two. I wish I could give this 4.5 stars. We will be back!
Super impressed. We have been driving by the Bavarian Lodge for years, and I wish as had stopped in sooner. Great German and Eastern European food. The Thuringer Sausage and Sauerkraut was fabulous. Great service! So excited about their beer list...can't wait to go back again!

This place looks like a Chinese restaurant turned Japanese. When you walk in, there's a koi pond and a waiting area to the right. My friends and I had a good teppanyaki experience here. The chef was entertaining, but I've had better. We were seated upstairs at 1 of the 2 hibachi tables. It was loud with the fan on, which made it a challenge to communicate with our waitress. She got 1 out of 7 orders wrong, which isn't too bad. Hibachi Shrimp $24 - Always get the egg yolk sauce (a.k.a. golden sauce)! It's just truly amazing and heart attack inducing, but worth it. The sauce is so rich and creamy, and would make anything taste good, but especially shrimps. The amount of food here was a little larger compared to other places. This dish came with miso soup, fried rice and vegetables. On Groupon, there's a "Steak and Shrimp Dinner - $45 steak and shrimp dinner for two special" that you can get by asking for the special at the restaurant. However, when we asked our waitress, she said they don't have it anymore. They should really remove it from the Groupon website if that's the case.
Don't get sushi here. I ordered the calamari roll, fire kamikaze roll, and smoked salmon sushi. Calamari roll was okay, there's really no way to get that wrong. The kamikaze roll on the other hand was just whatever. It was like they tried to put as much sauce on it to cover up whatever crappy sushi they had. The smoked salmon. This was the worst. First of all the color was off. It had no marbling and it did not taste fresh what so ever, more like sitting out for the whole day. One hour later. Food poisoning. Service. Hahaha so I came with my dad who is actually a regular here, don't ask me why. When we came in the hostess greeted my dad and us (my mom was there too) so nicely and well. Our waitress on the other hand was just. Apathetic? The manager came a few times to ask how everything was since he knows my dad comes often but if he wasn't a regular we would have had minimal service. My parents got hibachi stuff. And our chef was great and his food was good. Really not much to say.
My family and I love Tairyo! We have been going there for 3+ years now. My dad is a really picky eater but he loves the hibachi and the chefs there. We like to request Fausto! The hibachi chefs are skillful, funny, and interactive. Wing and all of his staff there are great and make you feel so welcome. Get the French garlic butter on your shrimp and lobster! Chicken teriyaki, yum yum! Scallops are very flavorful. Steak and filet are delicious, too!! The horseradish sauce tastes so good with the steak! The sushi there is AMAZING!! Lunch specials are great, too! Love the food and people at Tairyo! Thank you guys so much! : )
