A fellow friend and myself were driving down Milwaukee in Libertyville trying to find a hole in the wall to try. After being extremely indecisive, we decided to finally stop and ended up here. We gave a look at the menu outside and decided to head in. Boy were we in for a surprise. The prices seemed pretty reasonable, but wait till you see portions. This is especially true it seems with their lunch menu. For $5-$6 you can get a completely FULL styrofoam container stuffed filled with fried rice and whatever entree you decide to order. To top it off, they give you one of the biggest egg roll I have ever laid my eyes upon. Granted, this place is a bit on the greasy side (though according to their website they state they will cook to your preference if you ask), but I in terms of a great value this is it. The ingredients appear to be of above average quality, and you honestly can get about three meals out of one order. Keep in mind this place is legitimately a hole in the wall and is take out only. If you were to eat here, you would need to keep the box anyway because if you were like my friend and I, you will barely put a dent into your food by the time you are full. The picture we posted was AFTER we had finished eating already to give you an idea! So if you are in the area, please give this place a try. Your wallet (and stomach) will not forget it!

Will not be returning. Came back here for the second time. My dried beef chow fun was soooo greasy. Maybe i just lucked our with their singapore noodle on my previous visit. My order was so greasy to the point it gave me heartburn. Free egg roll for orders over $10 prior to tax, you dont have to ask for it, they will automatically give it to you. However you might just be better off without the egg roll, non palatible, the grease seeper through the egg roll bag. Used can mushroom in my chow fun, ew. I was skeptical about how fresh the beef was. A waste of money.

Love this spot and would always take out from here but that has changed ever since my last visit. Rude cashier and wasn't so helpful to clearing things. Be careful their low mein noodles are not what you expect!!! They are not the egg noddles. Wish I could explain what noodles they have instead but again, the cashier was no help. I got the chicken broccoli, good amount and quality of broccoli but the chicken was simply steamed and a pale white color. Use to love this place no idea what happened. Stick to the beef people.

Homemade egg rolls and sweet and sour sauce. They give your money's worth on the portions. I always get take out but you are able to eat there but not exactly the most comfortable. They have good lunch specials and for the area the best Chinese food. My family loves the combination fried rice and orange chicken.

It's not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it satiates a need for a takeout Chinese. Portions are huge -- really, if you're feeding two people, you really only need one entree. You get a free egg roll with any order over $10.00 after 3:00 p.m., which is a nice perk. We've had some fails when ordering via phone due to language barriers, but their online ordering system is robust and fool proof. There's no dine-in option so plan to take it home and eat on the couch.

This review is based on the first and only time I've ordered from here, but this will not be the last time I order from here! A co worker recommended this place and she was right, food was fresh, hot and delicious! I am very spoiled when it comes to Asian food because it lived in the city for so long and dinned in china town as well as some other "real" Chinese places. Here I ordered the beef lomain (so good and came with lots of veggies and crunchy skinny noodles), egg rolls (came with home made sweet and sour sauce, not packaged), chicken with vegetables (I asked for medium spicy and it was perfect. I also asked them to add green pepper. The chicken is cooked in a white garlic sauce. Very good) and we got the Hong Kong friend rice (combination fried rice)... I got the "small" size of each which was so much food that it lasted us into the next day. My total was $25... You can't beat that! The food was sooooo good! It hit the spot! I also didn't feel like it was submerged in MSG... It was also ready 10 minutes after I called to place my order. Only downside is that they don't deliver. I can't wait to order from them again!

Took out from here. They forgot to include fried rice which we ordered. Egg rolls were soggy and greasy. Ordered Cantonese fried shrimp appetizer which was just fried sweet and sour shrimp with no sauce with it. The wonton soup we got was ridiculously salty. The general tsao chicken was flavorless. The worst of all... No fortune cookies were included with our order. This place just didn't cut it for my wife and I.

I would say the best Chinese food for carry out. The quality of food they have is phenomenal. The best place in town! If your looking for a quick bit and want to save some money. This is your place

We've tried all the Chinese places around and this is by far the best. The lunch specials are a tremendous value, and two of them feeds our family of six with plenty of leftovers. They are very accommodating to special requests, the ingredients seem very fresh, and the quality of the white meat chicken is also very good. We love the sesame chicken, the chicken with broccoli (but we request brown sauce), their fried rice, and their egg rolls.

I don't think this place is outstanding. The food is fast, tastes good, and the portions are huge! The lunch specials are very affordable and there is a good selection. I often take a long nap shortly after eating here and I recommend you do the same.

I was driving home from Libertyville and I had a grumbling belly, so I decided to stop by Hong Kong Chop Suey for some quick carry out. I wish I would have kept driving. The food was just not good. The hot and sour soup was okay, but not much flavor to it. The Orange Beef was pretty terrible, I didn't even finish eating it. It was all mushy and fairly tasteless as well. This review is being cut short... just like my appetite that night...

Average Chinese fast food. Lunch specials for about $5.50 plus and comes with a Styrofoam container chocked full of food. Enough food in fact to last you two full meals, so no pigging out on your lunch break, save for the next day. Typical pork fried rice; pork bits are minuscule and overcooked. Rice was a bit too dry for my taste and my entrée selection couldn't have been more typical, sweet and sour chicken. I would suggest a lunch entrée with gravy to help facilitate the arduous process ahead; getting the meal down. Sweet and sour chicken was fresh, seated inside their restaurant you are privy to every sound. Meaning, I could hear the pieces of chicken being fried, chunky white meat in every bite, I could also hear the rice swirling about the wok as it was stir fried dry. HK chop Suey has a number of the typical fav's for example General Tso's, but those are available in large dinner portions starting at about $10. This is a carryout place so all food is packed to go. Inside they have two sturdy tables with four chairs each. Just a few feet from the entrance are a few concrete styled benches with attached tables. So if you can bare the cold this Fall / Winter season, you can sit outside and enjoy your meal there. Extra's carry a charge, as in sauces. Three stars only for the advantage of a lot of food for a low price. Taste... well that's a perception thing. I go to Golden Kitchen for great taste and great price. I can't say I'd be returning anytime soon for more. One and done, unless I go broke.

I heard they are good chinese restaurant. But I think I failed yesterday I ate sweet sour chicken. For $10 It was not taht tasty than I expected. They gave me enough of food but I want more high quality. I want to try different food next time. And really decide I will keep going this place or not.

We ordered 4 different meals for dinner and they all failed us. The Chow Fun was tasteless and no "fun" at all, the Kung Pao Chicken was also tasteless, the Hunan Shrimp tasted fishy and the Sweet and Sour chicken was all sour. Even the Fried Rice was a disappointment. For those of you that have been going there for years, I strongly suggest that you try to broaden your horizons and try some other places. Your taste buds may get a wonderful surprise. I'm more into the Hunan and Szechuan "hot and spicy" dishes but still expect flavor to go with it. If your're ever in the Waukegan area I highly recommend the "Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant "on Washington at Lewis by "Club 18". We're always looking for something better and nothing seems to come close.

It was pretty bad, I tried the Chow Fun and the noodles were way over cooked and the sauce was tasteless. HUGE servings but not worth it. Hunan Palace further down Milwaukee is a much better option, they have wonderful food.

Ordered take out from here and let me just say that I was very disappointed. The food has no flavor and the meat is very low quality... Save your money

I love this place. Good food and lots of it. Great variety. I love the Cantonese-style Chop Suey and the Chicken Garlic lo-mein. And the price is right! If you are around for lunch - that's an even better deal. $5-$6 for a big box of food with great fried rice. Been to others in the area who give you 1/3 less and isn't as tasty.

Me thinks there are better Chinese takeouts around (Golden Kitchen, Hunan Palace). It's definitely cheap, though.

When I moved to Libertyville I began testing out every place I could find and sadly this was one I put off for far to long. It's your typical Chinese take-out but this is definitely the best value in the area. You really get the best bang for your buck. At Henry Yee, in comparison, they only put two wontons in a wonton soup. But here they load up the container with so many ingredients there's barely any broth left! The dishes are definitely better than average and they really pack in the food for take-out.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
