I give this place 1 star for ambiance....the food was meh...we had the baked spinach and artichoke dip-nothing amazing, it was your average dip. Entree was the hangar steak. Meat was tough and the fries were very well DONE..almost burnt to a crisp. Not impressed with the service...and for the prices, I expected the food to be a lot better. Probably wouldn't go back.....

This is my, oops-there-isn't-any-food-in-the-house-so-I'm not-making-dinner-joint. It feels like a cross between Cheers and a Chicago bar with the open face brick and regulars. The offerings of craft beer are minimal, there are often well-crafted specials, and they always find a way to get you a table. I indulged in: I always go for the wedge (I mean, who doesn't love a head of iceberg drenched in bleu?), the fish taco appetizer, and my entree varies. They used to have this incredible sauteed veggie pita with hummus, but the menu rotates so my favorites change with the season. Pros: The desserts are to die for! They had this apple crisp thing with vanilla gelato. ALL HOMEMADE. How many restaurants actually make their dessert? Cons: Sometimes they overcook meats and seafood, just check it and they will happily redo. Tip: Always sit in the bar area, the booths are bad luck. Also, talk to the busboys, they are generally hysterical.

We ordered the following: Muscles- small and dried up with no meat Brussels sprout- too salty and sour flavored Salmon- was ok nothing great Steak- no flavor Mac n cheese- tasted like spoiled milk Caesar salad- like a 10 year old made it. Food was horrible. Too bland or too salty. Sizzler would have been better.

I loved the food and service here. The steak salad was awesome. The patio was really nice too. Husband had a Reuben sandwich and it was awesome too.

Went here last Sunday for a late lunch with friends, and sat outside, which was very nice! Drinks were delicious, and the atmosphere was great. Service/ our server was awful though! We each ordered our meal, she read it back to us incorrectly, and we corrected her, which she proceeded to write down. Our food came out about 35 min later, and the orders were still wrong. We sent 1 plate back, which they did remake, however it took another 20 min for that. Just poor service all around, however good food and drinks.

Most restaurants in downtown Libertyville seem to close their kitchens pretty early. On a recent Sunday night, I had called several places just after 8:30 and 545 North seemed to be the only restaurant that kept its kitchen open. I was pretty excited, as my only other options seemed to be fast food or hitting the grocery store and cooking (which would make for a pretty late dinner). I placed a takeout order for a couple sandwiches with an appetizer of roasted brussels sprouts with bacon, which came to around $40. When I got home, I was so disappointed with the quality of the food. The kitchen staff had failed to trim the stem ends off the brussels sprouts, the bacon was plentiful but soggy, and overall the flavors didn't come together very well. Our sandwiches were OK, but the fries had gotten soggy after steaming in the takeout containers while I drove the half mile home. I've been to 545 North before and had a much better experience dining in the restaurant, so I'll give it a second chance - after I get a chance to speak to the manager. Maybe the food was 'off' because it was a Sunday night.

Good times, great food, atmosphere was great and the service was second to none - I strongly recommend trying all the items my family had. Hanger Steak with asparagus - the better half had the Salmon and my son enjoyed the kids burger. Our waitress made my sons night by introducing him to a local celebrity who I guess frequents their , Frank Thomas ! I will admit it was so awesome for me as well but such a wonderful dining experience! I will return back soon ! Meghan is fantastic if you are lucky enough to have her for a server -

Figured I'd give it one more try (4th time). The food is mediocre at best and the service is pretty bad. It's got a nice feel, great ambiance and so much potential, but something's gotta change to keep this ship from sinking. Perhaps it's just me, cause obviously people like this place. Examples from my bad experiences: 1. THREE items we ordered for the 4 of us were not available anymore (7pm dinner) 2. Each time we ordered salads, there were many brown pieces. 3. Servers we had were kids who seemed to have had little experience. 4. 2 out if the 4 times we dined here our food came out wrong.

Gross. You guys should read the comments from the government food inspection website. Yeah they passed, but have been suspected of possible food borne illnesses and the comment/detail section of what has been found there is disgusting lake.il.gegov.com/lake/i…

Phenomenal fresh fish, I ordered the fresh Grouper with lemon butter kale al fresco dining is the ultimate treat. Wait staff were focused on patron's needs. I love this restaurant, the best that downtown Libertyville has to offer!

I have only done drinks here, but both times I have tried have been a disappointment. Mostly, we chose this place both time because we could get seated right away when everywhere else downtown was packed (that should be a sign). The mixed drinks are ok, but they all taste like they are made from mixes, nothing fresh. Do not order a margarita, it tastes like syrup and sours. I ordered 2 shots of tequila to mix in just to drown out the taste of the mix. The bloody mary tasted like Mrs. Ts mix with no hint of alcohol. The menu said it came with some sort of snack sized garnish, but all we got was celery. The service is also lacking. We got one round of drinks in about 2 hours and they never came back to us. Had to ask for the bill 3x.

The small plates are really good and not small so be careful. The hummus is great as are the scallops. The steaks are good too, but they can be out of rib-eye if they've had a busy time the night before. Desserts are fantastic.

One of those rip-off cheap places that gives you a skimp wine glass less than half full

Food was very good. Everyone's entrees were on point and well presented. Atmosphere was good. Live acoustic music was enjoyable. Good bourbon selection. If I would have stopped at dinner I probably would have given it four stars, despite somewhat slow service (server staff was very attentive, things just took a whle). Dessert, however, was disappointing. Creme brûlée was a little soupy, and the topping was too thick. Others in our party had cheesecake and bread pudding and also commented that they were just okay. I'd go back, but just would not have dessert there.

I have a dietary allergy. I never think twice about going to 545 and never have any fear eating there. I have always received the best service from all employees. Looking at the reviews, I believe most people don't understand that they are not going to greet you, seat you, and get you out the door. You are welcome to stay! You are not in a caddle car and a number coming through the door. Most accommodating when bring our five and eight year old - when they will only eat a grilled cheese. Its a smaller place and I appreciate when we get a night out from the kids that we don't have a waiter/waitress asking every five minutes if we need something else. The food is great; like most restaurants some are unbelievable. From what I have learned from 545, you have to tell them or ask what you are looking for...

Great food, the menu changes often which mean that the chef works compare to other places. We used to go there because for us this one the two best place on main street at libertyville

  • Owen F.

Our party consisted 7 seven people, I had the wedge salad with shrimp, which was one of the better ones I have had. What killed the evening was the service. First, where was the waiter? We had to find our own menu and it took 2 people to hunt down the waiter take our order. The drink order was wrong and very slow service, a complete lack of attention. Finally, when we had enough, I spoke to the owner and he said to me he didn't care and that I could leave, I will never return!

Love this place! When you're here you feel like you're in a restaurant you would find in Chicago. The food was AMAZING, especially the bacon wrapped scallops.

Love this place every time. Food is great, and priced right. Service could use some training, but not bad.

Run..... Bad service guy in t-shirt and shorts I thought it was a dishwasher waiting on us...the BAKED SPINACH DIP appetizer dip was so ridiculous we should not have paid for it... Salads ok ...HERE it gets GOOD I ask for a cup of coffee after dinner and the waiter says oh really there is none made I guess I could go brew a pot!! Are you kidding me? How insulting to even think we paid for 4 meals there.

We had a fantastic dinner and a great time. Personally, we enjoy the bar atmosphere as well as the delicious entrees. I had the grilled skate wing and the others had steaks. The presentation of the fish was perfect. And the steaks were cooked precisely as ordered. The owner brought back their original Chef after seeing many bad reviews of the previous chef. The portions were perfectly sized without being too large. (So many restaurants oversize portions)

Love this place! 1-2 years back, they had a change in their chef, and things lagged a bit. But over the last year or so, they are back to their excellent food, good prices, and great atmosphere! You feel as if you are eating at a "downtown Chicago" restaurant without the drive downtown! Perfect!

  • Edward L M.

Food is always good but service is a bon able!! When you have to chase the bartenders and servers down to get drinks or food something is wrong. Where the hell is leadership to make this right. The bartenders are friendly but really have no customer service skills. Have been here when the owner is here and nothing changes.

I had dinner there with my 79 year old mother. The service behind the bar and on the floor was poor. Slow. Invisible. The food was poor: Dinner salad returned without any inquiry from the server of what was wrong or if I possibly wanted something else. Then the server asked if he can close out because his shift was over. No hand off to another server. He suggested opening a tab at the bar to get drinks/food. In closing out my tab at the bar I pointed out there was a charge for a drink I did not order. While the server reviewed the tab I commented that the service I recieved tonight was poor. The manager was a step away and chimed in. Not curious about why I made the statement or if he could assist he promptly suggested I "Get F____". He also suggested I not return. We are in agreement on this.

So my wife and I came here once and will never come back, even if someone paid me. After spending several hundred bucks with the party that we were with we left. As we were walking to the parking lot two of the employees threw a snow ball at us from their outdoor seating area. The employees didn't think that I notice who the were so I marched right back in. When I described the employee I was told by the shift manager that it's the owner's nephew. He went and got the guy that threw the snowball. That guy then proceeded to laugh and said verbatim " I was just messing around, let me buy you a beer". I proceeded to take the high road and my wife and I left. So in addition to almost being assaulted by a snowball and the terrible service(inattentive staff, soggy and stale tasting food, and bartenders not knowing different types of beers),I'll never go here again. My wife and our friends really enjoy supporting the Libertyville economy, since we live here and this establishment will NEVER get a dime from me. If you want great service, fresh tasting food, and knowledgeable staff, then I highly recommend the Firkin, The Tavern or the Green Room. All of which are within 30 seconds by foot next to this place. 545 is an embarrassment to Main Street. If I could give 545 a negative rating on YELP i most certainly would. My co-workers, family, or other associates will not be supporting this place. Enter at YOUR OWN RISK. P.S., read their Lake County health inspection as well.

Not impressed. Visited on a Sunday afternoon, sat on the patio. When we arrived, the tables under the umbrellas were either occupied or un-bussed. By the time we left - 45 minutes later - all the tables were empty, but still none had been cleared and cleaned. Who wants to look at dirty plates and tables the whole time? Not I. My salad was disappointing. "The 545 House Salad" features asparagus as the lead word n it description, followed by roasted peppers, feta, etc... I dug through the plate of mesclan mix and found six 1" pieces of asparagus. The rest was 99% greens, with a wee bit of the other listed ingredients tossed in. I ordered the Large; I can't help but wonder how little of the asparagus and roasted peppers and feta is in the Small. My lunch companions ate salads, too. They were at best "okay." None of us were served any bread. Beer selection was good. Service okay. Nothing was good enough to make any of us return. This stretch of Libertyville has plenty of better options.

We've usually had pretty good luck at 545 North, but tonight was a poor showing, mainly for the food quality. On the plus side, unlike other recent reviewers, the service tonight was very attentive. With regard to the food, I had the pork tenderloin with grits, cherry sauce and roasted vegetables. The grits were extremely dry and pasty. There was some finely chopped zuchinni that would hardly pass for roasted vegetables. Finally, the cherry sauce had an almond taste, almost as if they ran out of sour cherries and substituted maraschino cherries from the bar. Another person in our party ordered the New York strip steak with mushroom risotto. The steak was quite good, but the risotto was just seasoned white rice with mushrooms mixed in. It certainly wasn't risotto in the classic sense (white rice vs. arborio rice). Dessert was okay and the wine was fine. The menu has a nice variety, but today it didn't deliver. So much so that it will be a long time before we give it another try.

Had a great experience here on Wednesday night, 7-May. Bartender friendly welcome and chat. Wine selection was nice, hummus starter was perfect and salmon entree was excellent. Ambience was great with nice jazzy music overlay. They had an acoustic guitar gig start around 8:30 and they were excellent! I'll be back!

First time visit and I'm assuming they have corrected a lot of the issues people have disliked about this place. The food was excellent, service was great the prices a little steep, but reasonable for the location. While there where some delays, it wasn't for a lack of trying, they were busy on a Wednesday night. I would go again, but try reserving a table if you can't stand to wait. .

This is a very nice place. Great food. Menu is not large, but variety is good. Outstanding beef tenderloin.....wife loves the pork tostadas. Appetizers include spicey tuna tartar. PLEASE bring back the creme brulee ;) Note: My price rating includes drinks (wine). Without alcohol the price is moderate.

What happened to this place? Tasted like they put cheap vodka in their expensive bottles. Food was not even edible.

Just tried this place today for lunch. Nice location in downtown Libertyville with outdoor dining. I'm giving a 1 rating for two reasons: 1. The service was terrible. It was not busy at all & it took 1 hour to get a grilled chicken salad & a grilled chicken sandwich. 2. The grilled chicken on the salad was not thoroughly cooked. The salad was available with or without chicken - so I asked them to remove the extra charge from the bill since it had already taken so long to get the food. They did remove that extra charge - but offered no apology for the issue or the slow service. We will not return.

Unfortunately I too often eat here only because everywhere else has a 45 minute wait. The setup of the restaurant is quirky. Tables are located along the wall of the restaurant and the decor is somewhat bland. The wait staff is very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. With that said the menu is quite pithy. Now for the food... During previous visits I haven't been too impressed with the food, not bad but not great. However, last night I ate there and was pleasantly surprised. I had the bone in pork chop with wild rice, which was the special. I normally avoid the specials, but this time my waiter sold me on it. The pork chop was fantastic! I highly recommend the restaurant add it to their menu. One piece of advise for the Chef though, switch the wild rice for dirty rice! My two other companions had great meals as well. Keep it up 545!!!

  • Jeff G.

For the price, I'd really expect better food. It's ok, but certainly not a $17 to $20 dinner plate place. Decor is kinda upbeat, but the vibe is bla bla Libertyville. For all the great, and new options for the area - they gave me zero reason to actually return.

  • Caitlyn S.

I would have to agree with a lot of reviews. The place is lacking service. The food is mediocre at best. Very nice drink list, with many option. Nice patio in the back that I have enjoyed many times. Besides a good spot to stop for a cocktail, (if you have all day) I would head to one of the many other great spots around.

  • David C.

Went to 545 for lunch and got a burger and fries, also the hummus appetizer and soup. The food was very good, especially the hummus and soup. But it isn't a cheap lunch. A plain burger starts at $10 and most toppings are extra. Cup of soup was around $4, etc... Knowing that, I would still go there if you're looking for a little nicer than the average lunch spot. The outdoor seating was somewhat limited but not crowded on a cool afternoon. There is a fireplace which I would imagine would help create an enjoyable atmosphere on a summer evening. The service was good.

We go to 545 almost weekly! It is fantastic. The waitstaff is friendly, the food is great! There was a period of time where the food was not up to their regular quality, but they are back up and running! We almost always take friends from out of town there to visit. Always a good time. We love this place!

Don't waste your time. Owners have no clue about customer service and their food is way way overpriced.

Cluster. Thought I was going to a restaurant but it was more like a sports bar. Loud obnoxious inconsiderate. Was not great last time we were here but gave it another try. Service was apathetic. There were a couple other tables who equally as disturbed and although tables were available in the back away from the cattle call, never offered. Oh well.

  • Alayne H.

Met up with a group of people here for a birthday celebration. The owner was really nice in accommodating us by rearranging tables so we could all sit together. I loved the atmosphere - small intimate space, warm colors, wood floors and soft lighting. There was live music and the guy was excellent. We sang and danced (although dancing garnered a few stares). 545 offers a nice selection of beers, which is what we were all drinking. Staff was efficient and friendly. Definitely, would come back here again.

  • Coleen A.

We stopped in last night after doing some window shopping and it took us around five minutes to be acknowledged that we were waiting for a table. Our server was nice enough, but our drink order (martini and manhattan) took roughly 15 minutes. I had to send my drink back because - for the record - a dry martini has very little vermouth, not a ton of it! And the apple fritters we split for dessert were slightly burned and quite bitter, probably cooked in bad oil. We don't plan on returning. By the way, the others were right: this is definitely Cougar Central.

  • Jon S.

I was ignored for over 10 minutes. Approached the hostess who was apologetic and a waiter apologized, gave me a drink on the house and never saw him again as I walked out 20 minutes after being ignored for the second and last time. Who the hell runs that place? I was sitting in front of the bar, not like I was in a corner. Smh.

  • Brittany P.

I absolutely love this place! The food is fantastic.. especially their sweet potatos :) I also love their location and decor. I would definitely give this place a try.

  • Tim J.

Only two stars because it is too expensive for what you get here. I really like their appetizers, especially their warmed goat cheese and tuna ceviche. It is nice that they have a little patio in the back that has nice ambiance for a date in the summer, but that plus the locale doesn't make up for the prices. What should be a $60ish dinner pre-tip (2 entrees, a drink or three, an app or dessert) can go north of a hundo really quick. This would be a great place to go for an 'appy hour' when appetizers are 1/2 off, but as is, the only time I am going is when you're buying. Also, the word on the street is that this is where the Libertyville cougars stalk their prey, so if you are collar-poppin' Lothario or an innocent-eyed Benjamin Braddock in the market for dry-aged meat, you could do worse than 545.

    (2)
  • Brian V.

Bad service, bad food, over priced. Nothing else needs to be said. Avoid.

  • Boones K.

I can't really consider any place trendy with a bunch of cougars sitting at the bar getting sloppy on martini's. That should have probably been my first clue to jump ship. We arrived after 8 and the the hostess said it would be about a 30 to 45 min wait. No big deal we'll sit at the bar and have a cocktail. After an hour we inquired about weather or not they were going to have a table for us. They said they were hoping to, but that customers who had paid their bills over an hour ago just weren't leaving. Not my issue if they don't know how to turn tables. They promised to clear one of the tables out and have us seated in 5 minutes, which they did. We started out with the grilled calamari, which was tender but charred and burnt tasting. Couldn't struggle through it even though we were starving. I ordered the braised short rib and my boyfriend got the tenderloin. Both the short-rib and tenderloin were tender, but there was nothing spectacular about the dishes for the price. I have to admit I also have a hang up about paying downtown dinner prices in the suburbs. The food just wasn't enough of a wow factor to deal with the hassles.

  • Chris D.

Enjoyed a lunch there recently. Food was cooked to perfection, they make an amazing burger. They have a small menu but it seems one of those situations where they only make what they are really good at. And that was the case. Also you can get a pretzel bun for $1 extra, which is always a massive win in my book.

I've been here twice this week, and the food was fantastic, and service great. Not sure what the couple of poor reviews were for, but we've had great experiences here, the chef is wonderful.

  • Elyse C.

This place is a little expensive for what it is... 4 drinks and two apps 50 bucks...whoa thats what i pay for dinner most of the time. However the drinks were good. The Hummus app was actually very delicous served with a little greek salad in the middle for dipping. The cheese tomato and bacon slider things...i would pass next time. I thought this place would have happy hour special or something but alas no. I probably wont come back.

    (3)
  • Justin S.

First off, I've only ever come here with vendors so my review disregards pricing. That being said, I think the hummus appetizer is a must. I've tried a few of the salads there (Ahi Tuna, Chicken Ceasar & Chopped Cobb) and thought all were really good. The servings for the salads were rather large if you ask me. But their distribution of tuna & chicken never seem to be even. When I had the tuna and the cobb, there was barely any tuna or chicken, respectively, but with the ceasar, there was too much chicken haha.

Great bar and outdoor area. Nice decor. TV's are there for the casual sports viewer...having a few pops before dinner. Food is relatively higher end for Central Lake County - nice change from the family/American fare you find in Libertyville. Good seafood and specials on weekends. Service is pretty good. Place turns into a late night bar after 10-ish...I think they close at 2AM - pretty late for the 'burbs. Check it out.

The beautiful weather this weekend begged for us to find a place where we could sit out side on "date night" . About 7:00 pm I called 545 to see if they had tables available outside. The hostess told us they had lots of tables getting up now that there would not be a problem. We showed up 30 minutes later, to find the patio packed and people waiting. Come to find out later that evening the hostess was new and she did not quite understand all that was happening. We had seat at the bar and ordered a bottle of wine. One of the classiest moves I have seen in while, the bar tender poured both my wife and I a taste of the bottle we ordered. This was very respectful and did not assume I was the one choosing the wine. We waited 20 min for a our table outside. The waiter was slow to get to us, slow to get our order, the food was very slow coming out. What did come out was just so-so. The tuna tartare was over spiced to the point you could not even taste the tuna. My braised short rib was dry and the sauce was over reduced. The waiter did come back and took $10.00 of our bill. I did have a chance to speak to Dierdre, the manager/owner as I was leaving. When someone asks me how my meal was, I will always tell them about my experience. She explained that last night was much busier than expected, they had new bus and host staff. She was very apologetic and was very genuine in her response. Like in any relationship, whether it is husband and wife or waiter and customer, communication is one of the most important things. When you are busy tell me, when you have new staff tell me, when the kitchen is slow tell me. This allows me to adjust my expectations and be a little more patient and understanding. We will go back because of Deidre, and the bar tender.

I finally had a chance to stop by for a late lunch after shopping. There were 3 other people in the restaurant finishing their meal. I sat down at the bar and waited for a menu and drink. I waited, and waited and waited.... while one waitress stood at the corner of the bar and talked to a friend and while the other waitress waited on ''her'' table and managed to totally ignore me even after coming around to the bar and making eye contact with me. After 20 minutes I left. If they want return customers this isn't the way to get them.

I'd give it 4 stars except that I'd agree with the first review that it's overpriced. The food is actually very good and props for presentation, but I can't get over the prices, even for appetizers. Never crowded the couple times we went (probably off-times), but the place looks pretty packed at night with live entertainment...I might try it then and have a different experience.

Great outdoor patio with fireplace. Nice wine list, food menu is small but nice. Patrick the French server is excellent - however they need more servers or another busser on the patio.

I heard 545 has live music and a few friends had been there in the past, so I thought I would check it out. I read the reviews prior to coming so I know that they were mixed, but I usually like to make my own determination about places. Unfortunately I experienced much of what others had commented on. On a positive note, the place is nicely decorated and the live music was great, but everything else went downhill. The service was unfriendly and inattentive at best. I felt like I must have been invisible, it was getting comical to try to make eye contact with any server. A man who I assume was the owner because he was standing at the bar all night talking with servers and appeared to be supervising or maybe it was more socializing. I finally got a servers attention after what must have been easily 20 minutes. I will say that the bar area was crowded when I got there, but still. The table next to mine had four people eating dinner and even that server ignored me. The prices are not cheap. I don't mind paying good money for good food and service but unfortunately I got neither. My first drink was pretty stiff once I got it. I ordered the mussels and a half portion of Asian chicken salad - which is usually a pretty flavorful, straightforward item. Both were disappointing to say the least. I had to add salt to the mussels, being from New England, I have never had to add salt to seafood, the salad was bland. I was never checked on, and was never told that the servers were leaving for the evening. When I went to the bar to order another drink the bartender was unfriendly and the drink was noticeably weaker than the first .I only stayed because the band was so good, but at one point a very intoxicated patron came in with some others and he was dancing and being obnoxious and loud. He even grabbed the microphone from the band on a few occasions and the owner did nothing. A lot of people left when he started doing somersaults on the floor in front of the band... not kidding. I was surprised no one was hurt. Needless to say I won't be back.

Came here for lunch with a vendor (translation: it was FREE), it was lunchtime and totally dead, which was a little weird since most of the places in this area get packed. We sat outside on their awesome patio which seemed much more Chicago-y than Libertyville-y. In other words - it was pretty hip. The food was good and I didn't pay too much attention to the prices, but the ones I did notice seemed steep. I had the Ahi Tuna Salad ($15.99) and it was good, but small. I was still kinda hungry when I left (and nearly ravenous several hours later), and had I actually been paying with my hard earned money I would have been pissed. But, since I wasn't, it was fine. There were lots of other things on the menu that seemed yummy (pitas and hummus, quesadilla club). I will definitely go back to 545 North... if someone else is paying!

Came here tonight for date night with my wife. I had possibly the best steak I've ever had all year. Service was great, adequate wine menu and ambience was simple but nice. Just a straight up great little bar and grill.

I would like to like this place. Been here several times but tonight convinced me that it would be my last time. Had the ahi tuna salad - full portion. Three small of tuna for $16. Drinks were expensive and for the price, there are other better places in Libertyville to go. The owner or manager was inattentive. The Tavern is better for what you'd pay here. Low value.

After our mildly disappointing dinner at The Tavern, we walked up the block to one of our other favorite places, 545 North. Totally different atmosphere -- much more crisp and contemporary -- than Firkin or the Tavern, but warm and welcoming as well. The outdoor seating looks very inviting, with candlelit tables but we were just seeking an after dinner drink so we sat up near the bar. This was a Monday night, so no entertainment, but it was still pleasant. I had a very enjoyable glass of Wente Sandstone Merlot. It was quite rich tasting and smooth. The highlight was Anita's Espressotini. Vodka, Kalua and espresso, shaken and served ice cold in a martini glass. Anita's not a coffee drinker, so I was surprised when she ordered it, but she loves Kalua and once she got to the second sip (I mistyped Zip at first, which may have been Freudian as you will see) she became a fan. She very much enjoyed it. Except for the after effects. We were home by 10 p.m., I was in bed and asleep by 11. I found out this morning that Anita was wide awake until 1 a.m. Methinks that inexperienced espresso drinkers have severe caffein reactions! So while we highly recommend 545 North, beware the late night caffein in the Espressotini!

Fab.U.Lous! My husband and I dined here on a Saturday night with another couple and had the most terrific time. The environment - warm, inviting, romantic. The food - delectable. The service - top notch. The price - just right! What more could we ask for? 545 North Bar & Grill isn't a very big place, but it doesn't need to be. When we first walked in, I immediately noticed the exposed brick walls, low lighting and warm colors. It made me think of a trendy bistro you would find in Lincoln Park or another hip Chicago neighborhood. But by my experience, it's less expensive for better food! We were seated a few tables in from the door - not quite in the bar area where the TV's had football on, but not right by the bathrooms either where there tends to be more traffic. The noise level was just right. Our server, unfortunately I didn't catch his name, had a French accent and was delightful. He was friendly and attentive, yet patient and unintrusive, just the right mix! We ordered a bottle of wine, the Hob Nob Pinot Noir, which was incredible. I will be looking for it at Binny's! The girls ordered a couple martinis, the pomegranate and the French Connection, both were exquisite. We had the tuna tartar and spinach/artichoke dip as appetizers - the tuna tartar was seasoned perfectly and so tender, it just melted in our mouths! Some of the best tuna I've had. The bread was warm and fresh. For dinner, I had the beef tenderloin with asparagus and my husband had the pork tenderloin with sweet potato fries. The beef was incredible, and just the right portion. My husband really enjoyed his pork, although he's not a big fan of sweet potato. That cannot be held against the restaurant however! In general, we had a terrific experience and I would come back in a heartbeat. The food was done to perfection, the right portion, the right seasoning, and the right price. And the atmosphere just added to our night. Definitely go, and enjoy. And visit Mickey Finn's Brewery when you are done - the Amber Room upstairs has the same type of vibe and warmth for you to continue your night out!

My husband and I love 545. The Yellowfin Tartar is fantastic. The specials are always good and the rueben sandwich is the best reuben I've ever eaten.

I have been to this place many times and never had a bad meal! And, the rolls are fabulous. The owner always makes an effort to get us a table even though we never have a reservation. In fact, the last time we were there, we were able to sit immediately on a Saturday outside in the covered patio which was cozy and warm despite the winter weather. Wine selection is nice, too. The only reason I don't give this restaurant a higher rating is that I had SEVERAL bad experiences with a nasty little French waiter who had a pompous attitude and was downright rude.

Went here on a Saturday night for after dinner drinks. Nice place, looks trendy, similar to what you would see in the city. Live music started at approx 10:45. The guy was pretty good. Martinis were average price. Not as high as in the city but not cheap either. For a relaxing or romantic night out where you just want to listen to music this is an enjoyable place. . Cons: small

The atmosphere is what first drew me to 545 and the service. The food is good, not great. There is an appetizer of beef skewers and each time I have tried them, the meat is full of grizzle. The tuna appetizer - outstanding. The ceasar salad dressing needs to be a bit creamier and less of a dusting of spice and please stop toasting the bread - you can break a tooth. Why did they ever change the menu to stop serving that wonderful lobster pasta dish??? What were they thinking?? On New Year's Eve, the place was dead as a door nail after 9 and if that is supposed to be a bar's big night, I suggest that the owners re-think their long-term strategy the menu, for the entertainment who frankly, did not even play or sing on NYE, and for 545's continued patronage.

Love coming to 545 on a Friday or Saturday night to the bar, but we came on a Wednesday night for a nice quiet dinner. It was anything but. The tables were so close together you could hear conversations. Not only that at 8pm loud music started. We couldn't even hear the waiter or talk without shouting. If this had been our first time we would never go back. Will still come on a weekend for a drink at the bar but never again during the week for dinner.

The food is good, but not worth the price. Thank God we came here on a cold/rainy night bc the place was not crowded like the other reviews I have read. The patio was totally empty and the bar was at half capacity so it was a nice dining experience. The appetizers were good: the humus ($8) and artichoke/spinach dip ($9) went well with the bread they provide before dinner is served. I had the BBQ hangar steak with caramelized onions - excellent but pricey at $26. My wife got the tenderloin salad for $18 - that's right, $18 for a salad. She said it was below par and did not finish it. Around 10pm things stared getting loud as the bar crowd came in and a solo guitarist who could not play or sing well started his show. The bar crowd is fun to watch - old folks trying to be young again by acting stupid to the bad entertainment. Overall, this place is OK. I would go for dinner and leave before the show starts if you want a good dining experience.

We go to 545 almost weekly! It is fantastic. The waitstaff is friendly, the food is great! There was a period of time where the food was not up to their regular quality, but they are back up and running! We almost always take friends from out of town there to visit. Always a good time. We love this place!

Oh well.

    (1)

    (5)
  • Russell D.

    (4)
  • Jeff G.

For the price, I'd really expect better food. It's ok, but certainly not a $17 to $20 dinner plate place. Decor is kinda upbeat, but the vibe is bla bla Libertyville. For all the great, and new options for the area - they gave me zero reason to actually return.

    (1)
  • Caitlyn S.

I would have to agree with a lot of reviews. The place is lacking service. The food is mediocre at best. Very nice drink list, with many option. Nice patio in the back that I have enjoyed many times. Besides a good spot to stop for a cocktail, (if you have all day) I would head to one of the many other great spots around.

    (2)
  • Elliot W.

Perfect!

    (5)
  • Edward L M.

Food is always good but service is a bon able!! When you have to chase the bartenders and servers down to get drinks or food something is wrong. Where the hell is leadership to make this right. The bartenders are friendly but really have no customer service skills. Have been here when the owner is here and nothing changes.

Phenomenal fresh fish, I ordered the fresh Grouper with lemon butter kale al fresco dining is the ultimate treat. Wait staff were focused on patron's needs. I love this restaurant, the best that downtown Libertyville has to offer!

  • Carolyn S.

Smh.

For a relaxing or romantic night out where you just want to listen to music this is an enjoyable place. . Cons: small

Low value.

Enjoyed a lunch there recently. Food was cooked to perfection, they make an amazing burger. They have a small menu but it seems one of those situations where they only make what they are really good at. And that was the case. Also you can get a pretzel bun for $1 extra, which is always a massive win in my book.

This place is a little expensive for what it is... 4 drinks and two apps 50 bucks...whoa thats what i pay for dinner most of the time. However the drinks were good.

Smh.

Perfect!

For the price, I'd really expect better food. It's ok, but certainly not a $17 to $20 dinner plate place. Decor is kinda upbeat, but the vibe is bla bla Libertyville. For all the great, and new options for the area - they gave me zero reason to actually return.

Oh well.
