My dad used to take us here in my formative taco loving pre-teen years. Fast forward 20 years... I am having a major taco craving and I want something different (It seems as though almost every time I go for mexican it is always tacos - Try something new, Beth!) So I popped in on a Saturday. I had a bit of an itch and wanted to get out plus I needed to pick up my stepfather's birthday present. How better to birthday shop than with a belly full of tacos? I ordered 3 soft tacos for less than $6 after tax. I ate two and felt like I was going to burst. The other one got packaged up and brought to boyfriend as a special treat. He loved it. I loved mine. Their tacos are amazing. If you don't believe me, check out the picture!

I have been going to Tony's for 15 years. Good food. Great service. Always get ingredients right. A lot of food for price. Fresh ingredients. I usually get chicken tacos. So simple and good.

Been here a handful of times over the last couple of years. The owner is a great happy guy! Food is always good, not great but good. Clean place, never used bathroom but the dining room is clean. You get a bowl of peppers and carrots free with your meal! It's always consistent food and good experience. As others have said there are other great options in West Joliet area for great Mexican but this one is worth the visit. It's more American Mexican food then authentic stuff if you know what I mean by that.

I honestly don't know how this place managed to get 4 stars... There are way better Mexican restaurants than this... The first and only time I came here my take-out food was given to me in a evidence bag and I didn't leave my bathroom for the rest of the day... That is all.

Been in the area since 1992 and never considered going in. One day while on my break, I finally went in. There was something about the interior that felt very 90's, maybe it was the jukebox. First off, its no surprise that the prices were very cheap. I got a steak burrito ($5.25) and chicken Torta ($5.25) at a great price. The burrito was good, if you mind having the meat minced inside and the torta was my favorite, which is an open-faced sandwich filled with pretty much the same stuff you'd find in a burrito. I kinda didn't know what to make of the service. Tony did actually take my order but, his mannerisms were a little more casual than professional. When I approached the counter to get a take-out menu to look at, he says, "What do you want?" After he rings me up and tells me the total, as I was looking in my wallet to pay, he tells me that he needs singles & I tell him that I'll try to see what I have. As I was counting off how many singles I found in my wallet, he kept blurting out "not enough," when I only had 2 singles. Then I casually apologize to him about it & tells he that I'm not really sorry and gives me my change in a hastily manner. While I stood there waiting for my food & trying to figure out if he was in a bad mood or joking around, I see him talk to some business guy, the same way he spoke to me. So I came to the conclusion that he probably has a sarcastic personality and has a funny way of showing it. I actually wouldn't mind it if I was a regular since it shows character but, I find it a tad unprofessional when its used on new customers. Anyway, those 2 items took less than 5 minutes and a very friendly lady hands me my food, who didn't bear the same overtones as Tony. Believe it or not, this visit hasn't deterred me from being a repeat customer. Just don't take Tony too seriously. Oh, and they only take cash.

This place is fantastic! The tacos are super cheap and delicious. You can get a super filling lunch for under $5. I am in love with the vegetarian tacos. I don't even live in Joliet anymore, but I make sure to stop by Tony's whenever I'm in town.

Four stars? Clean? Edible? Ok, I'll give you edible. Everything was really bland and didn't seem to be high quality. Also both orders were wrong.

Been going here since the day it opened, literally. Food is good, prices are great and you get large portions for your money. I highly recommend it.

Please there are way better mexican fast food joints in this town. The only thing going for it is the price. The place seems like it's stuck in the mid 90s . You walk in through the dining area and order at a back counter area. The burrito is just ok a little greasy. Nothing special. Fountain drink dispenser needs to be replaced as well as some of the chairs and tables. If your looking for a cheap burrito and tacos I recommend burrito loco instead. Carry out / semi sit down restaurant check out Rio on Plainfield rd. Eastside of Joliet casa Blanca or Los comales.

Delicious food. The seating and bathroom were very old and the bench kept flopping up and down. Otherwise I would have given them 5 stars. Next time I will take out. Woman who took my order was very nice and friendly.

I went to Tony's Place the day he opened his doors over a decade ago. I have been out of the area for quite some time and was stoked to see that Tony's was still open. Tony was an awesome guy back then and I was happy to see he has not changed. Very personable and makes you feel at home. That being said... Now the food. It has always been amply supplied and of great quality. I have tried just about everything on the menu and enjoy it all. I highly recommend seeing Tony and enjoying his food.

My husband loves Mexican food and I am usually passive about it but when we tried Tony's I was quiet the whole meal! My husband and 2 year old were just as excited about the food. We tried chicken and steak tacos, chicken enchiladas and steak fajitas. All were super delish! This is a staple on our food places. Some cons are its an older place, the high chairs were not up to par for our likes. Also the refreshment machine is sparse. We will be back though!

Been here twice and have not had anything good. I don't see why everyone likes this place. I love Mexican food but I would not go back here at all.

If your looking for a clean place, friendly service and average MX food, this is the place for you. I had the combo plate with beef taco, chicken enchilada & tamale it was all good/average. my husband had the veggie burrito, he said that it had too many potatos. Carnita taco were the best thing that we ordered. They aren't on the menu, Tony made them special for us. Nice place, but Tony made a point to let us know that they are mainly into catering big events.

We stopped here yesterday on a cross-country drive. It was the second time I've been here after finding it on yelp last year. It was again very good. I had a veggie burrito stuffed with potatoes and rice. My fiancee had chicken enchiladas which she called a "revelation" due to the ingenious use of cinnamon in the red sauce. Yum yum yum!

Gross, had steak tacos full of fat and grisle. Would not go back here. If the meat is full of fat and grisle that is the worst taco you can have because you have to constantly spit that out when you are eating. Placed looked dirty to boot.

First time going to Tony's in the near thirty years I've lived in Joliet. Had to say my vegetarian burrito was awesome! It was massive. The way a burrito should be. I had to take half of it home. The service was very pleasant and they even brought our food out to us when it was done. Also, the food was prepared almost before I filled my soda cup. I was very happy all around with the restaurant and will be making a return visit in the near future.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
