Early Light Cafe

I was searching for some gluten-free treats and this tiny window service café has many to choose from. I tried the chia cookies and the gluten-free donuts. I thought the chia cookies were a bit on the dry side and needed a bit more flavor. The donuts, on the other hand, were the best gluten-free donuts I have ever had! The were moist, cake-like, and flavorful.
The egg sandwiches were good - you get to build your own, which is great because you can add delicious items like spinach, tomato, and chipotle mayo. The gooey butter cake was great. We were surprised to see it on Chicagoland but were no longer surprised when we learned the owner from our favorite big small town - St Louis. The best part was the service. We called because the spot is easy to miss - and asked for the address - couldn't imagine a friendlier phone call, and the service in person was even better. The owner was an absolute delight.
I attended an off-site small corporate event catered by the Early Light Cafe and all of Dawn's creations were quite tasty! She made us Brie & Blackberry Tartlets, Risotto with peas & proscuitto, Chicken Cacciatore (wow! so tender & slow roasted with black ovlives, garlic stuffed green olives, sweet peppers, mushrooms, basil and tomatoes) and for dessert there was a Browned Butter Dark Cherry & Peach Cobbler (amazing!). I haven't personally visited her cafe but based on her catering this event I'd certainly recommend her delicious cooking and baking.

Josef’s Elegante Meats & Deli

716 W State St,Ste A

Reviews:
Great subs and sausages! Tried their hot oven grinder (I requested pastrami and salami). The bread was lightly toasted, perfect soft texture, flavorful, and piles of meat on there. Better than any sub sandwich from a chain restaurant. I would definitely go back for their subs. Bought their giant hot dogs, Italian sausage, and jalapeno & cheese brats to take home and cook. Grilled them up, and they were absolutely perfect with great flavors (a little salty, but normal for sausages). I'm used to going to Wurst Kitchen in Aurora, and these sausages were right on par with Wurst Kitchen's. We had their German potato salad, but I didn't like it much. It was very sweet. I'm used to a stronger vinegar and bacon flavor. I'm guessing most people would like Josef's a lot because of that sweetness, but I won't be ordering it again. Service was friendly, fast, attentive. There was a constant steady stream of customers coming in around lunch time on a Thursday. Most came to get the subs. It seemed like everyone was in and out within 5-10 minutes with their food. Staff greeted everyone right away, took orders, got food out fast. Looked like everyone left happy, didn't hear any complaints.
Anything associated with cuts of Pork are top-notch, especially the Hot Italian Sausage... very tasty with just the right amount of heat. I hosted a BBQ last fall featuring the Beer & Onion Brats...a hands down crowd stopper. The "Ditka Style" Pork Chops grilled with a kiss of fire and served with fresh quality rye bread slathered with butter offer the perfect compliment to the beer of your choice. "Da Coach" would be proud! The salad and pasta offerings are plentiful, however you would expect that from any quality deli. By the way, order these type of things in moderation. Anything associated with the word "Italian" are top notch, as in Beef and Sub Sandwich...very tasty. Drop the thought of ordering a Chicken Salad Sub and ask for a Meatball Grinder. Anything associated with cuts of Steak, start over from the beginning of this review...hold on a minute. Throw in some Peppers & Onions and I'll think about it!
The easiest review I've wrote so far. * gourmet sandwiches * ample serving size * reasonable pricing * toasted a plus * go visit The staff was really friendly too! So friendly it caught me off guard.

Chef James’ Place

321 Stevens St
Geneva, 60134
Reviews:
Chef James catered a family reunion party for about 25 people for me this weekend. In short, the whole experience of planning the menu, having Chef James deliver and then eating his delicious preparations was OUTSTANDING! He made the whole process easy, made sure there was enough variety for everyone's varied tastes and even helped me get stuff set up in my house. Mini-cheesesteak "footballs" were a huge hit, as were the "Shrimp Lejohn" (jumbo shrimp with dijon sauce wrapped in bacon!). There was a ton of food at a reasonable price and the end of the evening left me with very few leftovers... mainly because everything was so incredibly delish! I would have him cater anything again in a heartbeat. As an added bonus, Chef James is a great guy and is as enthusiastic a "foodie" as a guy can be. Rock on Chef James!
They claim the best Steak sandwiches in the state... I AGREE!!!!!!
So he's now open on Stevens St.? Where? Does he have a website? I've never seen such a poor job of marketing and promotion in all my life. But I do LOVE his Cheesesteak!

Cocoa Bean Fine Desserts

11 S 7th St
Geneva, 60134
Reviews:
Cocoa Bean was the cake vendor for our wedding at Cantigny and was part of our overall package. I made an appointment for a required testing. On the day of, we were on our way when I received a voicemail asking where we were. I called back and the guy I talked to didn't really have a solution as to what to do or how the time got messed up. It was probably my fault, but I would have liked some kind of guidance instead of me having to figure out what to do. In the end, we decided I could still come in at the time I thought it was. Geneva is faaaaarr, but the town is kinda cute. The bakery itself is very nice. Lots of pastries if you feel like stopping by for a treat. We sat at a table and then met with the woman in charge of our cake. She brought out some samples of what we could get. We really liked the vanilla bean and the chocolate. So decadent. She also showed us some design samples. Once again, I had no idea what I wanted, so I was up for anything. I saw a pretty design with ribbon around the tiers and flowers on top and thought that would be great. She told me the width of ribbon I would need and said I could mail it over once I had it, and that she would be in contact with our florist for the topper. We ended up choosing two flavors/frosting for our cake, which was an additional charge, but its based on how many people you have, so it was only like $40 extra. I think it was worth it since you never know what people want. Fast forward to the wedding: our cake was beautiful and we got rave reviews on the taste. I was super nervous, since my best friend said she's had some pretty bad wedding cake in her experience, but everyone absolutely loved it. They said it was the best cake they ever had. I have to agree that it was sooo good. I had people taking extras! Even though they were the vendor for Cantigny, if you have the option of picking a vendor, I'd highly recommend Cocoa Bean. You will not be disappointed.
We were at the Geneva Car Show and passed by this place. The presentation was wonderful - mini golden plates decorated with tiny individual cakes. The cakes were topped with hand painted chocolate. I got the chocolate flavor while my daughter got the raspberry-blueberry. The chocolate tasted nice. However I would recommend that you skip the other flavor. The outside was dried and stale. I dont think this is how it is expected to taste like - most likely was an old piece. The girls behind the counter were friendly and helpful, one of them walked around to tell us which flavor was what.
The cakes and coffee are very delicious. The staff is very helpful in describing the content of their deserts. I purchased the minute pastries and chocolates. They are cute and tasteful. I love this place to chill for a coffee brake

Starbucks

Cozy Starbucks, great service always a smile and helpful. Easy parking out front and great third street window views. Good place to meet up with friends. Great outdoor spring and summer seating. With Starbucks you know what to expect menu wise and these baristas whip up fantastic hot beverages!
Herringbone tile and vintage parlor lights make this Starbucks very fitting for the quaint river town of Geneva. I appreciate the amount of seating. It was a little messy when we where there the other morning...but there were also quite a few kids present.
I parked down the street for my Pure Barre class and decided to study here for a few hours prior to my class. There were several single tables (probably about 9) and one group table. 8 of the 9 tables were taken and I managed to snag the last one. The staff are very nice and even delivered free samples of lattes complete with a little whip cream. Delicious! A nice little treat (though in addition to my latte already). They were pretty efficient and quick. A good place to study and kill some time.

Preservation Bread & Wine

Reviews:
This place is delicious! We were visiting Geneva 2 years ago from out of town and were here on a Sunday and unfortunately Preservation was closed. Thankfully, this time, when we popped in for lunch on a Saturday, it was open. We were greeted by the owner, who was so friendly and upbeat and passionate about his food and wine. My husband (who is a vegetarian) and I split the grilled vegetable sandwich with a cup of squash soup, the mushroom tart and the spinach and artichoke bread pudding. All delicious! The only thing that was a little odd was the pine nut tart. Not bad, but just a weird combo of flavors for my liking. The bottle of white wine was excellent. My husband knows his wine and was so excited to see this bottle, which was unique and different and not easy to find. We will definitely come back here the next time we visit Geneva!!
Great, friendly & knowledgable service. Delicious food with perfect wine pairings. Nice outdoor seating. Ideal for lunch or taking a break from shopping. Hidden gem!
My fiancé and I dined here recently, and LOVED it! We consider ourselves foodies, and found everything to be top notch. We had their meat platter, cheese platter, French onion soup, and a couple of their dishes in ceramic bowls (duck cassoulet, OMG! So good!)! Fine dining quality food, but in a cozy, home style, and approachable format. We will be back for sure!

Antonio’s Pizza Factory

500 Lark St
Geneva, 60134
Reviews:
This place has some of the best carry out pizza and salads in Geneva, but do not miss the Italian Beef or Meatball sandwiches! The Italian Beef here easily beats any "chain" place around. It's a serious helping of beef with sweet or hot peppers; the beef is flavorful and tender. The meatballs are clearly home made and would rival any good Italian restaurant in the tri cities. It's easy to miss Antonios because of its location but I highly recommend finding it.
Whenever my family orders pizza (and by this I, of course, mean my parents and my brothers) we order from Antonio's. I like their pizza. Classic thin crust, and they even do a white pizza for my picky younger brother. They're also a truly family-oriented business. They close for a few weeks in December so their employees can spend time with their families. Not a lot of that kind of thing going around anymore.
Great pizza at a cute little place. They are working on their indoor eating. But you can eat at tables that they have outside. I would recommend this place to anybody They also do deliver and pick up

Moveable Feast

321 Franklin St
Geneva, 60134
Reviews:
I love the food at Moveable Feast. They have a large assortment of unique deli food. I always get a salad sampler and have enjoyed most everything, although, not being a fan of cilantro, I wish they would list it with the other ingredients. The baked good are a highlight. Oprah once recommended their brownies on her show, as one of the best she's ever tasted, but didn't give them permission to use her name as an advertisement. The cookies with icing are fabulous! The behind the counter service is iffy. Sometimes it moves along, but I've had to wait more than once when no one else is in line. They seem to lose track of whose been served from time to time. Still well worth it.
I have eaten there frequently over the past five years. The food is always fresh and tasty. I like the Reno, but have been very disappointed with their service the past two or three times I have been there.
Moveable Feast is our go to place for a special meal out. It is expensive but you are getting really high quality food so it makes sense. We have never been disappointed with the food! The brownies are AMAZING and truly you can't go wrong with any of the specialty desserts! We only wish that they were open later for dinner and on Mondays. We always seem to want to go here on a Monday and they're closed. HIGHLY recommend it!!!
