Having passed this place a hundred times on the bus or on foot (& having given up once before on a huge wait list), we finally jumped in to see on a midweek evening (around 7pm) to what all the fuss & wait lists were about. Of the three or four available tables, a young lady assigned us the worst possible one - right next to the entrance and all the waiting customers, and she wasn't particularly gracious when we asked for a vacant table by the window. The waiter was energetic and cheerfully & efficiently described the various menu options without too much phony fanfare ("portions are a good size... we can share/have extra plates at no extra charge etc."). Salad arrived first (split between the two of us), and came fairly quickly--the baby kale & arugula salad with roasted golden beets, apple, candied walnuts, grana padano orange vinaigrette. It was presented nicely, and was very tasty. Our 'wood roasted' pizza arrived a bit later, and looked nice, though there was a lot of 'bare' dough, and the mushrooms were a bit sparser than one would hope for a $14.00 pizza. Of the two dishes, I'd say the salad was the better value and a bit more special, whereas the pizza was a lot of crust and not a whole lot going on in the way of topping. We were persuaded to try a dessert - described as a 'creme brulee' but without the 'brulee' - which arrived in a suitably 'petite' quantity on a large white plate with lots of creamy sauce and drizzled decorations--it wasn't bad (especially the sauce), but it frankly wasn't a show-stopper either - it seemed a little 'sad' in texture - the wafer/pastry component was a bit unspecial (like a mille feuille with only one feuille), and the sliced strawberries were a bit slimy. But the 'creme' portion in the middle of this thing was a bit dry and not very 'creamy' at all. Anyway, all in all, if we'd gone in and each ordered our own salad, pizza and dessert, we'd have shelled out around $64 plus tip (glad we didn't accept the invitation for 'cocktails' that greeted us as we sat down). Less youthful diners beware - there's a very high level of ambient noise in this restaurant (I wonder if the design team included an acoustic engineer). While we could barely hear a word we were saying to each other, I suspected that most of the mostly 30-something diners were actually enjoying themselves, and were content to join in the competition to be heard above all the other gleefully chatting diners & their noisy spoiled & unruly children. So if you like that kind of atmosphere (i.e. "lively" in reviewer parlance), or else if you're immune to ambient noise (or you're deaf, or drunk or all of those), and you have a wallet as lively as the noise level, then I guess this might be a good spot to visit. It seems this restaurant has remained busy every evening since it opened, so it'll be good for Evanston, and for the community, but for me, it's rather pretentious and overpriced. Also, it made me feel very much out of place here, and I won't return, but I'm happy that others did appear to like it. I hope that one day, this part of Evanston will benefit from a restaurant that offers good value and simple, fresh, wholesome food for folks looking to eat in peace in an unpretentious and down-to-earth setting.

Absolutely loved this place!! The atmosphere is so hip and classy! Had a lovely glass of wine, which was crisp and fresh. You didn't have to wait for bartenders, they had 2 full time staff members there. ( one of then my favorite) =) The oven brick pizza was great, so tasty and came in a fashionable time!! The service was wonderful, everyone was upbeat and cheerful. An amazing addition to central street! Will definitely be returning, with more friends next time!!!

Huge fan of this place! Super friendly staff and the food is SO good - I've had awesome fish, pizza, burgers and fries here. Everything is fresh and tastes great and the customer service couldn't be any better.

Overbooking when we made a reservation days in advance isn't cute, but I'll give them an extra star for your smoked chicken entree. The food is delicious, I hope they work on their service!

Very good pub food in a location desperate for more food options. Kid friendly at the appropriate times.

Got a personal, very professional response from one of the partners and had to add another star. Will be going back at his request and totally expect to have a great experience. Stuff happens, no doubt, and it's how you respond that counts. I am impressed with the response to the unfortunate noise situation.

If you're looking for a spot for a group dinner/cocktails this won't disappoint. Yet another biz in evanston that makes me think "where was this during my NU days?" Then again this would have been a bit more than our typical nights at the Keg (RIP). We started with some apps and I was quite happy with two slices of pizza. Pretty good, but then again it's tough to mess up pizza. I even admit to eating (and enjoying) 2 slices of dominoes pizza this weekend, although this was certainly better. For my entree I went with the Cobb salad. I was pretty full after the pizza and other apps, but it was just OK anyway. I picked at jt a bit and then decided I was done for the night. Although of course i had to have a few bites of the BDAY desserts, which I now regret since I can't remember what they wrote. I'm not drinking right now, but the cocktail menu looked good. Instead I enjoyed a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade on a rainy Chicago evening. I don't think I would rush back here for a date night, but would be up for the lovely atmosphere again for another big group dinner.

3.4 stars. This place has pretty good food and service but nothing to write home about. A nicer-than-average American bar with standard fare of burgers, salads, pizzas and wings and a normal selection of drafts. Very convenient location if you are at Ryan Field already! Tip: They have outdoor seating during the summer.

I've been here for brunch twice and have tried The Dude, Buttermilk Biscuit, Fresh Berry French Toast, and hash brown (not on menu but you can request it). Everything I've tried here tasted GREAT, and I am especially impressed by The Dude (sausage, fried eggs, maple glazed bacon, and cinnamon roll). One warning is that the portions are HUGE, so it'd be a good idea to share one entree with a side or two. The only complaint I have is the service. The two waitresses I've had haven't been that attentive and were really slow at refilling our drinks. It could be because we were seated outside and they forgot about us a few times. I also think the manager was very rude (not exactly sure if he was the manager, but both times he was hanging around the cash register but not performing the role of a host). When I was eating the Dude, he came by my table and said "You're not going to eat the whole thing, are you??" He said this in a rude tone and he should not be making comments like that considering he works at the restaurant. Would have given this a solid 4, but had to drop it to a 3 due to poor service. Overall: Food: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Service: 2

They have done a nice job building out the space of the restaurant in a simple yet tasteful way. On the food side, really enjoyed the variety on the menu and everything we ordered was delicious. Had the gruyere gratin fondue appetizer which was really delicious. Shared a fried chicken sandwich and mushroom pizza which were both awesome. Only criticism is cocktails are kind of pricey - one my wife had was $11 for a highball glass cocktail. Second one is they took the blue cheese stuff tater tots off the menu!!!! So sad I didn't get to try those... All-in-all though really enjoyed the first experience. Wait staff was very helpful and nice. Would definitely come back for more.

I would have given Ten Mile House 3-4 stars for the food but had to deduct for the poor service, and I am not high maintenance by any means. My sister had to call to make reservations since they didn't accept reservations online. Upon being seated, our server asked us if we'd been there before and after hearing that we hadn't, he said he would like to make sure today was a great experience so as to ensure we would return in the future. Let me tell you, I'm not sure how I feel about that. Everything started out so well that my first impression was great. We had a funny server and everything on the menu sounded scrumptious. He went over the menu with us and gave suggestions when we weren't sure what to order. So our table ordered the poutine and smoked chicken wings, both of which came out in a timely manner. The wings were very good; they had a nice kick, very tender and easily came off the bone, and yet had a nice crisp exterior. The poutine was decent but not nearly as good as the wings. This isn't your traditional poutine which generally consists of fries, cheese curbs, and gravy but rather Ten Mile's take on it. This poutine had sliced potatoes (they called it house-made cottage fries) with gravy, spicy giardiniera, and pickled peppers and we also opted to add smoked pork shoulder on top per our server's suggestion. The poutine tasted like creamy potatoes but nothing really stood out to me. Once we were done with our appetizers, our server returned for our entrée orders. This is when everything went downhill. We put in our orders and I chose to have the vegan corn chowder as well as the slow-cooked pork shoulder with sides of brussel sprouts (instead of the standard fries for a slight upcharge of $2). Our table had a total of 5 people including me. First two people received their orders, then me, and then one more friend. The last person in our group didn't get his food so he waited a bit before asking our server if his entrée was coming. Our server told us they were busy and his food would be coming out shortly. Then I realized I hadn't gotten my corn chowder which didn't make any sense since my sister also ordered it and had already gotten her soup. So we flagged our waiter down again and asked him if it was coming, and this is when he became snarky. He acted like we bit his head off when in reality we just asked if it was on the way because if it wasn't, I would just cancel the order since I had plenty of food. The soup eventually came and by that time I was already almost halfway through my sandwich. To top it off, our glasses of water weren't refilled in a timely manner when they had become empty and when he did eventually refill, he spilled water all over one person's side and managed to skip my sister's glass. I'm not sure if our waiter was just having an off day but I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, otherwise that's poor service on Ten Mile House's end. As for the food, I was pretty happy with everything I got. The vegan corn chowder was spicy but not unbearable due to the salsa in it. It was decent but I probably wouldn't order it again. On the other hand I was more than satisfied with the pork shoulder sandwich and brussel sprouts. The pork shoulder was served on a baguette which had a crisp crust but chewy texture. The pork itself was fairly tender and juicy which is a plus because there's nothing I dislike more than dry food! The roasted brussel sprouts were also cooked to perfection, tender inside but caramelized exterior due to the roasting. I hope to give it another try and have a better experience the second time around but I'm a little skeptical.

Nothing special. We have been here twice but are fairly underwhelmed. The beer selection is so-so - it benefits from a selection of local brews, but nothing spectacular. The poutine we had the first time was only okay - the fries were overwhelmed by all the toppings beyond what poutine should be. On our second visit, we both had the brisket sandwich (as I am gluten free, I had it without the bread). My husband said the best part was the grilled sourdough bread - the brisket itself was very fatty and marinated in something sour. Mustard-based BBQ sauce was pretty good. End result - we might go there with a group if that is where everyone else wants to go...but we won't be spending our date night here again.

"Have you all been here before? No? Well, I'll do everything possible to make sure you come back atleast once more!" - our waiter, who greeted us with this very welcoming opening. Setting the bar high! ... And it didn't take long for that bar to snap into little pieces. Maybe the service wouldn't have felt as horrible had he not said anything in the first place about wanting to make our experience a thumbs up, but I have not encountered service this poor in a long time! Count the strikes: - the overarching theme was how inattentive the waiter was. He would disappear for long stretches of time, and when he did reappear, it was to tend to the tables neighboring us! It was a Tuesday night, busy but not bustling to the brim. I literally had to flag him over with my hand when we wanted to order, and even then, he acknowledged it and then came by a minute later. - lack of water service. Half the table had empty water glasses for a prolonged period of time. When the waiter did come by to give us more hydration, one friend lifted her glass up to assist him, but he turned his back on her! We were so puzzled, we thought for sure that he had run out of water in the pitcher, but nope, he didn't come back. Wth? - pacing of the food was way off. My $11 cocktail arrived after 75% of the entrees were set down. Two of my friends ordered the corn chowder, and one got hers a full 15 minutes before the other. It's not like the soup didn't come from the same vat in the back. Wth again? Not only that, but the gyros entree was sent over a good 10 minutes after 4/5 diners had food in front of us. - despite the warmness of waiter's greeting, he clearly turned pretty cranky in the middle of our service, even mumbling something about staff changes in the kitchen and how things were slowed down. Sign #6 that he could care less about us: he plopped the bill down at the end of the meal, without even offering dessert... whereas he had a lengthy 5 minute discussion about dessert with the table adjacent to us 45 min prior. The only reason this review is 2 stars is because the food I tasted was solid. I thoroughly enjoyed my chili and side of wood roasted veggies (including parsnips and carrots). The poutine was ok and lacked some cheese and fries; to me, everything was masked by the gravy and green onion and other garnishes atop it.

Atmosphere- was a solid 4 Service was a solid 4 Menu variety was a solid 4 Execution was less than expected on the items I ordered Corn chowder soup- was below average, was more like corn salsa.. Salads were outstanding Pizza was below average, crust was not crisp, thin, or tasty was kind of doughy. This place has huge upside and I think it will be a winner. I would definitely come back again but reconsider my menu choices.

Stopped by for Sunday night dinner. It was a lovely night, so we ate outdoors. I had the shrimp tacos with avocado, arugula topped with salsa, and they were EXCELLENT. My friend had the brisket sandwich, which he loved. We both enjoyed our very friendly waiter, Norman, who told us a little bit of the restaurant's back story. Loved the ambiance; will definitely be coming here again!

Hip and classy? I feel like we walked into the Aspen dream scene of Dumb & Dumber: so many empty nesters in alpine sweaters, wire frame glasses and Patagonia down jackets. Yikes. We just hung out and waited for a table. We tried to order some drinks at the bar but it took forever to get served. Mediocre beer selection. Weird that several tables in the warm and inviting main dining area were open and ready, yet we were placed at a terrible and freezing cold corner behind the bar. Our server was also cold and unfriendly and there was an enormous man-sized dog turd out the window on the parkway. Hip and classy for sure. I just kept my chin up and remembered reading the menu online earlier that week. The tater tot was okay. Nothing to rave about. Mushroom pizza was soggy and gross. Corn chowder was pretty tasty and even the small bowl was ample. My favorite was the kale and golden beet salad. Very tasty. Bottom line: would I go back? Nope.

This is an interesting restaurant. When you walk in the smell of smoke houses all over the place and your appetite gets going. The menu has a great selection. there are interesting appetizers, good soups sandwiches, salads, and entrées. The staff is not attentive and they are not good. I My other big surprise was when we asked if we could substitute a vegetable for the fries with the sandwich and we told of course. When The bill came we noticed there was a charge for the substitution. The surprise was no one informed us of this. I asked two servers about a substitution and they said yes. The menu did not include any notice. When we said something we were told that is the way it is. We said no one told us and the server ignored. this remark. If you charge tell people and the substitution of cauliflower was awful. Terrible presentation. The car sleazier cauliflower is over cookies pieces.

Meh...very low energy level staff. Bartender really slow and dull. Sadly, for the wait person, got our drinks just in time to pay him and jilt her out of a drink at the table. We waited at the bar for about 15-20 min. It was filled with kids drinking kiddie cocktails only to be seated at a table that was open when we walked in. Pizza decent...not great. Tater tots filled with cheese pretty darned good...greasy, but good. I think service is as important if not more important than the food. The owner/manager...whatever he was... was uninspiring, dull and seemed confused. He never spoke a word to us even when taking us to our table. Lots of children on a weeknight. Probably good for families.

Wandered in on a snowy tues evening expecting it to be empty but they were hopping. We were seated immediately and for those who complained about bad service- I had thr opposite- an eager waitress who tried to take my drink order right as we were sitting down. Once settled I glanced at the menu. It's a smokehouse and I'm not really fond of meet, but husband was choosing and I happily found a few things on the menu that I had to decide between. Wine was great, and a generous pour, and our food arrived perfectly cooked. I had the salmon salad- excellent- and roasted veggies. I couldn't have been happier, especially since I was expecting to have to eat a soggy boring salad and bread, my usual fare when at a smokehouse. Husband was equally thrilled w his beef. Dessert was delicious and I left very happy and full. So glad this is has come to our neighborhood. Looking forward to many more meals here (and trying the ahi).

We went to TMH for the fist time on a Sunday night. It was packed, which was a good sign. The decor is nice, and the food and service were good as well. I would have given five stars, but my salad arrived at almost the same time as my entree (after waiting for a long while), and the Cuban sandwich was good but not great. But there were a lot of delicious-sounding items on the menu, and we'll be back to try more. Overall, a great addition to the Evanston dining scene.

Wish I lived in Evanston, so I could dine at this sunlit, brightly decorated diner again. I came for a late lunch with family and it was amazing. Reasonable prices, substantial portions, meaty sandwiches, flavorful dishes. I highly recommend the Cuban, brisket, and mushroom pizza, topped off with bread pudding for dessert. This is certainly a gem in Evanston.

Loved Ten Mile House! Ambiance is casual, loud and feels like a great place to be. Very neighborhoody and welcoming. Arrived without a reservation on a Friday evening. Crazy busy, so we went to the bar, which by the way is very fun. They seated us within 15 minutes. EVERYONE was delightful! I so appreciated that the waiter suggested a great glass of wine which was different than what I asked for. I usually don't order salmon at a place I'm not absolutely confident about, but this place had good vibes, so I decided to take a chance and I'm so glad I did. Salmon was perfectly cooked and delicious. (AND, no fishy taste!) Would definitely go back again when I'm back in Evanston. Next time I'll try the pizza cuz it looked awesome.

This is our third time here (first for lunch) and all of the food consistently has been great. You can't go wrong with the chili -- a meal by itself for only 6 bucks. The chicken sliders are very tasty (be aware they are a little spicy, though that may have been the effect of combining them with a Bloody Mary!). Had some of the lemon cake for dessert and it had a perfect cake texture. This is a welcome addition to Evanston!

SO thrilled for a great restaurant to come in east of Green Bay on central! We came in with our 16 mo old twins at 5:30, thinking we'd beat the crowds. We were wrong-but excited to see it packed! Despite their kitchen being slammed all at once, we were impressed with the timeliness. The service was great! And, trust me, we've finished off a LOT of kids' grilled cheeses, and this one was great (although we subbed provolone for American) and the fries were delish. The adults got the trout. Pretty yummy. The broccolini that came with it was fab! Welcome to the hood, ten mile!

Quality of the food is solid, but they're still finding their way with service Burgers and ribs were solid Pizza, although prepared in a wood burning oven was too 'doughy.' Union has a better pie. Interior needs some design love and care. We were there on a busy Sunday during their first week of opening, so I have faith they'll be more consistent with "food and service levels

Been here 3 times and feel that 3 stars is fair. The wait staff has always been friendly and really on top of their game. The menu has a lot of things that called my name. 1st stop involved ordering the burger with a side of chicken. The burger meat was cooked perfectly but their choice of "Texas toast" was just a hard slab of cardboard. Hate to be a jerk but the burger should just come on the brioche. Vegan corn chowder is excellent. 2nd visit involved chicken sliders which was superb. Even though it's ground up chicken the flavors are spot on. Really nice appetizer. I got the chowder again and it was just as good. The chopped chicken salad? Has everything you would want in a great salad but the chicken is subpar which is disappointing again. How can the chicken be that bad? 3rd and maybe final visit; I got the adult grilled cheese with mushrooms and chicken. The mushrooms were great, the chicken had chunks that I couldn't chew throughly! Ew ew ew. I might come back to try the pizzas because I really dig the place although they should get a rug, you know, to really tie the room together.

Stopped in on a rainy Saturday afternoon and couldn't have been more pleased. The place walks the line between an upscale sports bar and a comfortable, competent restaurant serving American pub food. The service was excellent (which is often not the case during slow times) and I was particularly impressed with the gentleman who I presume was the manager or owner. He came to check on us a few times, made silly faces to my son and seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself. That kind of interaction is infectious and ensures that we'll be back.

Love the location. Love the decor. Love the fresh new building, Love the nice people. Even love the menu. BUT THE FOOD TASTES VERY BAD. We have tried now 3 times. We will even keep trying to find the right items to order. This is a classic case of an informed owner, knows all the right things to do to make a place very appealing. Food television is incredible. Everything is right BUT.... The chef does not know good food combinations for flavor. Sorry. 1/2 of our food could not be eaten. This does not happen often. We really want this place to thrive. They simply need a new chef. Michael

My family went to Ten Mile House to celebrate a birthday! We got the chicken sandwich, beef brisket sandwich and fish Poboy! They were all awesome and quite large! In the future I would recommend sharing. Another table had ordered salads. They were quite large too and look fresh! I enjoyed the drinks. I had a Moscow mule which was very good no scrimping on the alcohol. For dessert they brought a lemon cake! No charge and it was light and very tasty! I would recommend this place to everyone! Looking forward to going back!

My boyfriend lives very close to here, so we decided to try it for dinner last Tuesday. When we arrived around 8:00pm, the room was at least half full, if not more. We were seated in a nice section where it was very easy to see the big TVs with the Bulls game (they lost though....) Lots of people were meeting here for either drinks or dinner, and it was clear they are building a clientele. In regards to wait staff, I would give them a 3/5, The server was attentive, but not friendly at all. The bus boy was awkward. They were very prompt about bringing food, clearing dishes, and filling water, no complaints there. In regards to the food, my boyfriend and I ordered a salad and a pizza, which we planned to split. Since they realized we were doing this, they were nice enough to serve it to us on two plates. I really enjoyed the Cobb Salad. The vegetables were ripped, but not over ripe and there was just enough salad dressing. If I was making it myself, I would have cut the chicken in smaller chunks, but overall a great salad, I'd order it again! After the salad, the bus boy cleared our salad plates and our forks and knives. I wasn't quite sure why he took the forks honestly, I guess he doesn't realize that some people like to eat pizza with a fork and knife. The pizza we ordered was a custom pizza that feeds 2-3 people if you also have a salad like we did. We ordered their house BBQ sauce, onion, arugula, and chicken. The pizza came out in fairly good time. it was hot and fresh. It was too hot to pick up and eat, so I really wished they hadn't taken our silverware... Anyway, taste-wise, I guess I wasn't expecting the BBQ sauce to be so sweet. In addition, we paid a dollar for the onion add-on, and the amount of onion on our pizza was almost nonexistent. I joked with my boyfriend later that the onion on that pizza was some of the most expensive onion per/lb I've ever eaten in my life. If I was to go back, I do not think I would order a pizza. Although the crust was good, the pizza was just too sweet for me, however, I will admit I probably should have asked to taste the BBQ sauce before they put it on.

We are so happy to have found our new favourite dining and cocktailing location: Ten Mile House in Evanston. An absolutely wonderful restaurant in all respects, with marvelous menu offerings (Like chili? Try theirs for a nice surprise. Wood fired pizzas baked in an open doored flaming oven within view when seated at the bar, sipping; The Dude, a sort of house mascot who abides there, lends his visage to black staff tee shirts and name to a one-of-a-kind brunch sandwich of two fried eggs, house made sausage patty, maple glazed bacon and gravy on a sugary cinnamon roll; a nice take on Cobb salad), charming, intelligent, well trained and efficient wait staff, talented and personable chef, bartenders and management. Delightful eating areas in their spare, sophisticated dining room, pleasant bar, and outside in comfortable chairs at tables on Central street. We have enjoyed only the best of times here for lunches, dinners or appreciating their interesting and creative Sunday brunch offerings and a couple times with and without friends for mild over-drinking. Well, actually their baby back ribs were incredibly salty. I still ate them with relish and gusto, and simply drank an extra tap LPA. The full portion was too much for one meal, bones too darned meaty, and I just now gnawed and inhaled a leftover half slab here at the computer with their superb house made apple and jicama coleslaw. One disappointment: no espresso machine. I know, wah wah wah. Also: Cheers! to Evanston's best bartenders. We are true and grateful fans. Best as always, Peter O. and S.

The place Gleams in under-stated black, grey and white. The decor, while not flashy, speaks of an underlying quality. The menu certainly backs it up. I enjoyed a very tender and juicy brisket - the yellow and red peppers added just the right snap. Wonderful cheese and seasoned aoli (mayonnaise). My wife added shrimp to her seared ahi tuna salad. Delightful with avocado and apple/jicama slaw. My favorite part when we mentioned The Dude portrayed on the waitstaff's shirts. Our server engaged us pleasantly in a dialogue that perfectly welcomed us and made us feel at home. He was the epitome of Abide!! We're going back - we loved the entire experience. Great deserts too'

I really want to like this place better than I do, but it just keeps leaving me lukewarm. Of course, I keep going back, so it's not bad either! The menu is always okay -- I've never had anything terrible -- but it somehow seems like a dressed-up version of what you could get at a national chain restaurant. The ambiance seems that way too: nice space, but doesn't feel intimate or special. Fun cocktails though: try The 1836 for the most interesting Tequila cocktail you'll ever drink.

Amazing staff, food and atmosphere! My personal favorite dishes include: the poutine with pork shoulder (appetizer) and the TMH pizza with the white BBQ sauce to dip. Absolutely phenomenal and addicting! The cocktails are wonderful as well. I love the Lighthouse and the Evanston Mule

Big fan. The space was really nice, the server was attentive, and the price was reasonable. For starters I had the poutine; wasn't the best I've ever had but it was plentiful. Then we ordered the angry shrimp (4 jumbo shrimp served on polenta) and the brisket sandwich. Both were delicious and came out quickly. I've got no complaints at all. I'll be back!

As soon as you walk in, the scent of smoked bbq invites you in even further. The overall ambience was very inviting. They have a great mural of Evanston highlights that is a great compliment to the place. The host was very polite especially when we asked to sit outside and changed our minds when we felt the brisk breeze. Our waitress was also nice but seemed to be pretty busy since we couldn't find her when we needed her. We came in for brunch and ordered buttermilk biscuits and gravy, crispy grilled cheese with mushrooms, steak and eggs, and a kids cheese pizza. The sauce in the biscuits and gravy was bursting with flavor and came with a lil spicy kick. The grilled cheese had a tasty caramelized crust that I could get enough of. The steak and eggs was short on the steak but tasted pretty decent. Our daughter ate the cheese pizza with no complaints, so no issues there. We also tried their pizza when they were on location at Temperance Brewery. We were able to choose the sauce and meat for $12. We chose a white sauce with mushrooms and spinach as well as a red sauce with sausage. Both pizzas lacked sauce and the crust was a tad on the too thin side, hence lacking flavor. We'll skip on the pizzas, but will be coming back to try other menu options though

This place is awesome!! Came in on Saturday of last week, and we absolutely loved it! For an app we had the smoked brisket and pork shoulder chili, this was great, I could not get enough of this delicious soup! For entrees, we selected the Ten Mile House Meat Sampler, which came with ribs, brisket, pulled pork and country vinegar slaw and house pickles. The entrée overall was great, although I did enjoy the country vinegar slaw, next time I will get a different side. My partner got the Ten Mile House Prime Burger, and he loved it! Very tasty!! He got this with fries. They give you a bunch of sauces as well, and there is one sauce that is just amazing, and works well with the fries! Our waitress, Brittney was great too! Very friendly, very helpful, and offered up many suggestions, she is the one who told us to use the sauce on the fries!! The décor is very cabinesque, they have a wood fire stove that is going as well. Very homey, inviting space! It was a little bit of a trip for us, but we wanted to try something out of the city, and we were so pleased!! We will be back definitely!! Thanks Brittney and TMH!!!

Yum! Came here for a weekday lunch with a friend, and we left stuffed and satisfied. My friend had one of their Smoked Chicken Cobb Salad ($12) and this was large, hearty and delicious. I would definitely recommend this. It was almost hard to finish as there was so much to it. I had their Ten Mile House Club ($12) which was also really good. I would get either of these again. Service was great. Restaurant features locally-inspired artwork. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Conveniently located in Evanston where there is decent street parking. I like. I would come back, and I would recommend.

C'mon, Paula H. You cannot rag on a restaurant b/c you did not like how fellow diners were dressed, and because a rude dog owner left poo on the sidewalk -presumably through no fault of the restaurant. It makes you look petty and negates the parts of your review that may be legitimate. Sorry to rant. I come on yelp to find helpful restaurant reviews, and it's frustrating that someone can knock a restaurant - and another person's livelihood - so arbitrarily.

Awful service and downright mean waitress. For a party of five, 2 kids and 1 adult meal came out, but not the other child and adult. No update on why or when to expect the next two meals. When I finally tracked down the waitress, she explained that "kids food comes out first and since we ordered a pizza for one of the adults that comes out whenever it is ready". My kids are 7, 9 and 11. They don't need their food first and it would have been nice if they asked or told us that at the beginning (or after waiting). They made excuses not apologies. I canceled the next two meals and the waitress came by and literally slammed the check on the table in front of my 3 kids. I have never experienced such a complete lack of courtesy and manners. I won't even write about the 2 different menu items that they were out of "because it is Sunday"...I would rather walk 10 Miles on broken glass then go back to Ten Mile.

What a great addition to evanston!!! The menu is soooo good that I can't wait to go back several more times to eat everything I wanted to order. Hell, I like this place so much that I finally decided to create a yelp account . And I love food and am very opinionated with a big mouth. So far my favorites: stuffed tator tots.. Great wings ( not too spicy with a smoked flavor) .. Grilled cheese sandwich amazing.. Burger with Texas toast is a nice change.. Angry shrimp are great without being too hot... And the pizza is GREAT!!! Wood fire makes it like eating in Italy!!!

Great food and beer selection. We were in Evanston and looking for a place to eat. Ten Mile came up, we liked the reviews and decided to give it a try. It was fantastic. The host welcomed us with a smile, the wait staff was great and the food was tremendous. You can't go wrong here.

My wife & I went to Ten Mile House on a recent Saturday around 6PM. We were able to find street parking just up the street from the restraurant. We enjoyed a beer & cocktail in the bar while we waited about 30 minutes for our table. But it was worth the wait. The food & ambience were very good. My wife had the build your own pizza with fresh ingredients & I had the prime rib burger which was tasty. The dinner was very relaxing and enjoyable. The waiter, server, host & hostess were all professional & competent. A very enjoyable experience.

I had a great experience at Ten Mile House. The service was professional and friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. I appreciated that they have lots of local beers on draft and by the bottle as well as local liquors. We started with the "angry shrimp" which came with creamy, cheesy polenta. We came in a group and decided to share a bunch of items. I recommend anything with meat in it--they are all smoked in-house and are delicious. I also really liked the grilled cheese. They have an interesting take on it because there is crispy cheese on the outside! Rich and tasty and different. The pizzas were good. We got the TMH, which had bbq sauce, white cheddar, pork shoulder, bacon, garlic, and onions. There seem to be lots of vegetarian/vegan options for those of you that swing that way. We ordered so much food, so we didn't have room for dessert, but we'll try it on another visit! Great spot for a date, ladies night out, or a family meal! I'll definitely be back!

Our first time visit we ordered grilled baby romaine salad and it was wonderful. The pizza we added "roasted peppers" and there was a strong vinegar taste that makes us think they were, canned peppers in vinegar, not fresh roasted and made the pizza soggy in the center. The atmosphere is comfortable and the staff attentive. We hope this comment will be helpful. We are looking forward to another visit.

The food was great but the service was a problem. I asked the waitress to describe their signature drink. She said: "I don't like it. I am not a bourbon person. I took a sip once and hated it." Get over yourself! So, given that I didn't ask her IF SHE LIKED IT, I asked again for a description of the flavor. She started reading the ingredients from the menu. Seriously??? Train your staff. They might say: "it tastes spicy with a slight citrus flavor." I just let it go given that she was so inept, but, she copped an attitude after that and her service was awful.

Started off with the smoked chicken wings and had the fish po' boy for my entree. The bread was great and liked the remoulade. Service was excellent and loved the atmosphere. I'll definitely be back.

Had high hopes for this new Evanston restaurant. The pizzas looked good but I went for the Ahi Tuna Salad. Disappointed is an understatement. I'm not one for "super-sized" portions but this salad was Liliputian in size. It was 4 pieces of seared tuna on a few slivers of Asian Cole Slaw. The salad was served on an appetizer sized plate and there were 2 or 3 slivers of avocado along with a tablespoon of cole slaw. I kept looking for more slaw under the tuna but there was none to be found. Not sure if I'll be back - there's enough great places to eat in Evanston that serve reasonably sized portions of delicious food.

For the service alone and the friendliness of the star, they get five stars. They were so accommodating and helpful. The menu has a ton of great choices on it. We ordered a bunch of sides as appetizers. The brussel sprouts were delish. The cauliflower was ok. For the meal, the burgers were a big hit. Its an awesome new addition to the hood. Mustards was getting a little old being the only option east of Green Bay. We we welcome this new restaurant!

Great location and the place has potential. But it is very loud. I've been there three times and the good is so-so.. Gyros was not lamb. Hamburger was average. Ribs were over cooked and just not tender. Probably good for families with kids who don't care. But they should get better quality meats and a little wall covering to bring sound down. Hopefully it gets better

Came here just because of the proximity to NU and was blown away how great the food was. It appears as a bar but the food exceeded all expectations. Would definitely recommend any of the barbecue, loved the brisket and that is saying a lot as I spend a lot of time in Texas. Also would recommend the grilled cheese sandwich. Pizza was good but wasn't as exceptional. Recently open joint and will definitely be back and will recommend to others.

Remarkably delicious. Started with a meaty pizza at the bar, the crust was crispy on the bottom and naan-like in the center! The smokey BBQ chicken wings were a pleasant surprise, i closed with the roasted vegetables and wood fired NY Strip served with melted herb butter over the top. Everything exceeded my expectations... Skipped dessert, but have a feeling they would be much more delicious than the simple descriptions - use more adjectives!

This place has an awesome wait staff and the food is tremendous. In-house smoked meats and the pizza is exactly how I like it - thin and crispy. I had the grilled cheese and added brisket to it - incredible. My wife made her own pizza which turned out excellent. Drinks are reasonably priced as are the meals. I will make this a regular spot.

This was our third visit and the third time was a charm! We shared a delicious kale & arugula salad with roasted golden beets, apple, candied walnuts, and grana padano orange vinaigrette...so good that even my husband was raving (and he is not generally one to rhapsodize about salads). We were glad we split it, as the half portions were like full dinner salads. My husband ordered a wood-fired pepperoni pizza and I had the mushroom pizza (a white pizza). Both were good and exactly what one would expect/hope for. This time we were seated in by the wall in the restaurant section, a comfortable spot. All in all, a nice evening and a good addition to the neighborhood.

Solid place to eat! My husband and I, along with our friends, went to Ten Mile House the week it opened. We expected chaos and not so good service, but instead got the opposite. Our server was friendly, informative, and checked in on us frequently (which was very impressive given the volume of people in the restaurant that night). The food was also pretty good! We got some burgers, ribs, and pizza, and they came out to be delicious. Overall, a great first experience. My husband and I have come back multiple times and always came out with happy full bellies. Glad that such a trendy good restaurant came into the neighborhood!

Trendy place...selection is average, food quality is average, ambiance is above average, service is below average, prices are above average. Overall I'd say it's a below average value, rather spend for my outside food dollar elsewhere.

Great service and food. The crispy grilled cheese sandwich was the best grilled cheese I've ever eaten. The Gruyere cheese coating the outside of the bread is sinful. You also have to get the angry shrimp appetizers. The grilled shrimp is served on top of cheese polenta. I wanted to lick the bowl clean. This is now our go to Evanston restaurant when we're in the area.

Great food and atmosphere, slight smokey aroma from kitchen. Menu is simple, wood fired pizza, chicken, smoked pork. TMH bbq sauce is excellent. Portions are large, prices are great. Quality is excellent. Downside is- parking and waiting times. The bar is busy at around 6p, seating there is also at a premium. Volume is a bit on the high side after 7p. The east side of Green Bay rd needed a decent restaurant. TMH is a bit more upscale than the Central st mainstay Bluestone, but very similar in many ways. Will be back regularly

Great addition to the Evanston restaurant scene. Best Cuban sandwich I've had, and that includes those I've had in Florida. My friend's grilled cheese sandwich looked over the top, with cheese spilling over on to the top of the sandwich. She said it tasted as good as it looked. Great selection of beers (including local Evanston brews), wines, and cocktails. Wait staff was very attentive and courteous. Great atmosphere and decor. Definitely going back!

Up to a 4.5 after my last visit. The temperature issue? Looks to be fixed. Not overly warm in there at all anymore and was comfortable. Service? Much improved. Our waiter was great. I tried the airline chicken and loved it. I also had the chili again because it's so good. This place is shaping up to be a really solid spot - definitely worth trying if you haven't already. Looking forward to going back again.

Awesome atmosphere, we got the poutine and gruyere fondue gratin to start. My friends tried the ny strip, gyro, pulled pork sandwich, and salmon salad. All were fabulous! We got the bread pudding for dessert but I thought it was a little too soft. Other than the floor being slippery, it was a really fun experience.

Received a very quick response to my review from one of the partners, which is appreciated and star-worthy for sure. The pricing issue was addressed indirectly so not sure about that. Hmmm. I stumbled upon this place looking online at places to eat in Evanston. My girlfriend and I were originally going to go to Cheesie's, however they unexpectedly changed hours and were closed. We decided to try this place and were not disappointed. As soon as we walked, the host and what appeared to be the manager appeared friendly and genuine. I had stated this was our first time and were interested in how we found the place and where we were from. The decor inside is very sleek and cozy. Very comfortable seating which is underrated. The food and service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and genuinely friendly as well. She forgot to give us straws and apologized for it immediately. The appetizer we had was the Gruyere fondue. It was not traditional fondue where you dip food in cheese, so initially we were disappointed. Turns out it was a sort of combination of veggies and bacon mixed in with the cheese and all cooked and melted in together. It was delicious. They give you bread to spread it on. We then both had the fried chicken sandwich. It was delicious and exceeded expectation. It was cooked perfectly. Even the sides of fries and pickles (best pickles I've had) were great. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. PS - We came in at about 9 and the kitchen closes at 10. It was fairly dead inside with people just at the bar. Our food came out quickly.

I've been to Ten Mile House twice for lunch on the weekends ad have been very impressed both times. The first time I had the gyro sandwich, my wife had the brisket sandwich, and my son had the kid's chicken tenders. The gyro sandwich was very tasty - the lamb a bit too fatty but otherwise delicious and nicely sized. My wife really liked the brisket sandwich. The chicken tenders were a bit too breaded and fried that it was difficult for my son to eat, so he feasted on the perfectly crispy french fries instead. Service was nice and efficient and friendly. The second time, we had pizzas and salads. The pizzas came out of the oven very nicely with a perfectly crispy golden crust. Service was a bit slow, but I'll chalk that up to it still being a very new restaurant. The space is very nice and open and bright with a big bar and an open kitchen. I definitely look forward to visiting again!

I've had dinner here twice now and I can't say enough about Ten Mile House! Just opened in nw Evanston and the food is wonderful and the service is great, even in the first week. That's a miracle in and of itself! The menu is varied and there is something on it for everyone. I loved the ribs, the angry shrimp starter and the bread pudding, but what I will never get tired of is the pizza. YUM. They have a wood burning oven that cooks it to perfection and they offer such a variety of toppings that I can always find something new to try. The fresh mozzarella, sausage and fresh basil on the San Marzano red sauce is a real winner. The sausage is perfectly seasoned with fennel and the mozzarella melts in your mouth. The crust is done without being burnt and the crust is nice and chewy. The menu also offers a variety of soups, salads, fish and barbequed meats. Welcome to Evanston, we are so glad to have you!

Michael

Hmmm. We'll see. Food, staff, ambience remain outstanding. Owners are involved and I'm impressed with the effort.

Nice decor, very friendly staff and great food. I got the Pork Shoulder Sandwich and my wife got the Veggie Ragu, both were excellent.
