Really good gourmet burgers. I've been four times now, had the barbecue burger and fries (my favorite), milkshakes, po boy, and 2 other burgers. I wasn't disappointed; Definitely a more interesting flavor experience than most burger joints. Also, there was a mix up where my fries didn't come til after I finished my burger, but the server was very apologetic and comp'd them, so no harm done. As someone who strongly dislikes both 5 Guys and Edzo's, probably the best fast burger place in Evanston.

DMK.... you can't do this to me! I love ya, but you messed up my order! And worst of all, it had bacon in it, which I can't eat. I took it to go and didn't even realize until I got home. WAH. I was looking forward to my #8.... Please don't mess it up next time!

Great place to come with some friends and hang out enjoying really interesting burgers and a nice selection of beers. The buns are pretty unique it would seem relative to what usually comes with burgers. Almost a toasted potato bun? Also really appreciated the service at the restaurant. The guy bringing food to the table was really nice and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

DMK is located near the Northwestern campus. It is a very convenient place to go for lunch with friends. The interior is really nice, except I am not sure how I feel about the red lights. Maybe it was because I went for lunch, but the lights are a little distracting. Anyways, I love the wooden table and chairs inside. The server was very nice and came a few times to check up on my friends and I. I ordered a turkey burger and the truffle fries. The food came promptly and looked very delicious. The turkey burger and then ingredients in the burger tasted well together and I really enjoyed it. My favorite thing though were the truffle fries. They were perfectly crispy and the truffle sauce that came on the side had good flavor. I would definitely come again! Great place to eat! Also, student get 10% off their check which is nice!

I live quite close to here so I used to come here pretty often. Lately I would be so disappointed with the order that I would take the time to bike a couple of minutes to Five Guys. I would look at my food, then my bill, then my food again, and it just wouldn't make sense. The food is inconsistent here. The burger is sometimes messily arranged (condiments falling out), and incredibly salty. I usually enjoy a lot of salt on my foods, but the patty is sometimes so salty, you can taste nothing else. Their burgers seem very hastily arranged. I recently got their special and there was just a huge 1 inch clump of dried red pepper flakes that wasn't evenly distributed in the meat/burger. Sometimes their tater tots are fine, and other times their tots are hard, brown, and over-fried. I'm not sure what accounts for these inconsistencies but they occur pretty much every other time I decide to try this place again.

Small, cozy location with cool interior decoration. The burger I got was absolutely amazing - a carb overload for sure but worth every bite. The sweet potato fries were phenomenal and made me feel like I was at least eating something on the healthier side. Our waitress was great and very attentive. Overall great first experience at DMK! I have since been to the DMK in Lakeview which is even better and roomier.

It's nice to find a burger place with table service. This small restaurant offers counter service to go, but if you want to eat in, just have seat. The veggie burger I had was delicious, with a nice crust, and moist, tasty filling, and good toppings. The bun tended to self-destruct, even though it had been nicely grilled, but fortunately I had a knife and fork! The fries were tasty but a bit soggy, although that was mostly masked by the excellent blue cheese and bacon topping. Service, by Tess, was great, friendly and informative. Nice place.

Came here with one of my best friends. The food was pretty tasty. I liked my burger a lot and the quick vibe. It's a fun place to check out and visit and super low key.

I've been to DMK Burger & Fish many times. Every time I go the food and service never fail me. Staff are friendly and greet you when you enter the door. Dining in may be a little tight for some people's taste; however, that doesn't bother me at all. I'm there for one thing . . . to eat a good burger! If eating in tight quarters and/or sharing tables with others bothers you, than I would suggest take out. Customers can place an order for pick-up via online/phone. I've ordered several times and my order is always piping hot and on time. The average I spend here for 1 meal is about $15. For the budget conscious consumer, that may be a little much for a burger, but I think it is definitely worth it. For a classic burger, I would suggest trying the #8 iceberg lettuce, tomato, raw onion, bread & butter pickles, mayo, choice of cheese - $9 with a side of (my favorite) tater tots with parmesan & truffle cream. For those who enjoy of beer with their burger, DMK Burger & Fish have started serving beer.

I've wanted to go to DMK pretty much since it opened, but it's such a trek from my apartment (a whole six minute walk... what a struggle). Finally made it and I am so glad I did! I had the tater tots - my friend totally judged me for ordering the tater tots when there are so many fancy fry options at DMK, but the tater tots were so good! Perfectly crunchy and well seasoned. I then had the Satchmo, which was a little on the small side, but really delicious, with very fresh bread and great breaded shrimp. I finished up with the peanut butter shake - I was really wondering whether I could get it, and I didn't end up finishing it, but it was so, so good. Really fresh and creamy and milky, with a thin layer of peanut butter and just the right amount of real peanut flavor. So delicious! I'll definitely be back.

Delicious veggie burger and truffle fries. Slightly expensive, but I found it to be worth it.

This is a cute little burger shop. We came on a Saturday evening, around 5pm, and were greeted promptly by Annick, our friendly server. She explained everything to us and was very helpful. We decided to go with a black cherry cheerwine soda (3) the #1 Burger (9) and the Satchmo (12). Since we had a Northwestern wildcard, we got tater tots for free with our entrees. This is the current promotion, but our server did tell us that it might change in the future. The tater tots were very good, and their ketchup is special too. I really enjoyed the #1 Burger and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes bacon. The Satchmo I didn't like quite as much. It's basically a shrimp and crawfish sandwich, which I would have really liked, but I didn't know that it came with scallions all over it, which I'm not a fan of. There were too many to pick out so I just enjoyed the burger instead. Side note: the bathroom is really cute since it has chalkboard walls, and they have chalk that you can use to write on it. It's also very clean. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but I don't think it's very good for groups. You will probably end up sitting next to people you don't know, especially if it's busy. We sat at the counter by the window and enjoyed people watching while we ate. They also have handy coat hooks under the counters. Come with a friend or two, and enjoy a delicious burger!

Good service, good atmosphere, but the food quality isn't up to the price. The burgers tend to be very squishy/textureless - the meat is fine, but limp bun and limp fillings with only okay flavor. Sweet potato fries are always overseasoned.

The food was very good. I had the #1 burger and my guest had the cod sandwich. We split an order of fries. No complaints about the burger, quite tasty. My guest said it was the best fish sandwich she'd ever had! The fries were good but a bit too salty & greasy for our taste. The dining room was packed and we had to wait for about 15 minutes. Once in the room, we noticed it was very loud. All the walls and the floor are hard surfaces. Combined with the music being played plus the talk of all the people, it was a little too much. In the future, I think we'll call in our orders and carry out.

Mortified that I paid $9 for a veggie burger priced the same as a grass-fed beef burger. a quarter of the thickness. as thin as a fast food hamburger. The veggie burger was mushy, thin and it fell apart upon a bite. A combo of corn and what tasted like flour. They call it "grain" and it was served on a plate the size of a cup saucer. To say it is over-priced, understatement. And the owners know it. They hand out a comment card that asks whether customers think that DMK is asking too much money for the food delivered. Yes, and they know it. I don't mind paying for small portions that are good, but their veggie burger his highway robbery. And I suspect it's so for their meat burgers. And you may think that's what a person gets when ordering a veggie burger in a hamburger joint. You can always tell how good a place will be by other items on the menu.. The place is small (think squished, sloppy seating) and on this night, it had a good gathering of NW students paying with mom and dad's credit cards. Exactly the clientele the two owners are aiming for. For a great, homemade veggie burger -- thick made with good things like beans, a variety of veggies and no mystery grains -- head to BAT 17 on Benson in Evanston. Costs a bit more but it's a true veggie burger, served on brioche with two homemade sides of your choice. I happened to overhear another DMK customer wail at the small size of his grass-fed beef burger. Nope.

The natural comparison of this place is Edzo's (also in Evanston), so you should know that the deliciousness and variety of the burgers are comparable. Edzo's has a more one-of-a-kind, mom-and-pop feel, where DMK is just enough of a chain (though a local chain) to feel like it. DMK is spiffy and clean, and has a big-screen TV (so whether that's an asset or a liability, you decide). Prices are comparable, but the overall experience is going to be more expensive at DMK, if only because of the table service you'll tip on. DMK's menu also includes salads and a few other items that Edzo's doesn't, which might make it easier to take into account some members of your party. Either way, enjoy!

Pretty average burger joint. Family all had burgers which were just average for the high prices. Fries were also just OK, but sweet potato fries were very good. Shakes were very good...burnt marshmallow shake was fantastic! Pretty pricey place for an average burger. We did the take out and service pretty good, although they did forget our salad.

I don't get it. The place in chicago rocks. This place blows. And it's expensive on top of sucking. It cost me like 40 bucks for a couple of burgers & fries & drinks. Be prepared to open your wallet if you come here. I was so very disappointed.

DMK never fails to please. The service is great and the food is delicious. Sometimes it can get a little busy/crowded in there, but that's just a testament to it being popular/good. I know most people go there for the burgers, but their mac-n-cheese is so good I almost never pass it up. And I love that they're always mixing it up with new specials!

When a new restaurant opens in Evanston, I usually rush over to try it out. Took me a little longer to visit DMK because 1. the location is out of the way, and 2. I heard mixed things about the food. But I'm very glad I decided to check it out. Upon entering, I noticed that the space is a bit cramped, but it's not bad. If anything, it gives it a more intimate setting and the set-up of the tables allows you to choose between bar and table type seatings. The hostess/waitress was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I ordered the #10 (turkey patty, smoked swiss, tomato, arugula, dijonnaise) for $9. Being Northwestern students, we got a free side of tater tots with our WildCards. My friend ordered the crabby patty (old bay mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion) for $11, and we shared a small order of parmesan and truffle cream fries. First thing I noticed was that the burger was pretty flat looking (see photo), but I loved the burger itself! The patty was juicy, the bun was SO soft and pillow, and I really liked the flavors of the arugula and dijonnanise. Also, a lot of times when I eat burgers, I run out of patty before the bun, so the last few bites tend to be meat-less, but they were quite generous with the patty size so crisis was averted. I agree with other reviewers that the consistency of the fries was a bit too soggy - they lacked the nice, crispy exterior that I love and look for. However, the flavors were great and the truffle cream dipping sauce was amazing. Tater tots were good, but nothing special. I took a bite out of my friends Crabby Patty, and I was pleasantly surprised by the patty size and the seafood-y flavors of the burger. I also really liked their ketchup! House made. Stronger tomato flavor and slightly spiced. Service was attentive and polite throughout. Meal for 2 (with tip and tax) ended up being $30 exactly. Not the cheapest place, but I'd say it was worth it. Only complaint was that the menu says the parmesan truffle fries are $3 for a small, but I noticed that we were charged $4. No big deal, but they should fix it ASAP.

Great place for a casual, quick and easy meal. They take burgers and fries to the next level by creating tasty combinations and using high quality ingredients. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Also, they feature local craft beer that's $5 each-- lots of IPAs but the Tallgrass Vanilla Bean Buffalo Sweat is a new favorite.

Was really excited about this place..i have lived right down the street for a long time and had hig expectations. I had the shrimp po boy type sandwich. It tasted fine. But these shrimp were microscopic and there were maybe 5 on the sandwich. A lot of bread. I finished and was still hungry. Really. Hungry. What a let down. A left a suggestion card addressing my concerns. Damn.

Been here twice. They know a good burger; a little on the pricey side but reasonable. Service has been really great so far and they've been making an effort to show they care about the customers. NU students get free tater tots. My friend and I were also treated to a spontaneous caramel corn shake, which was perfect for the hot day. And delicious. I've had the fish burger and the pulled pork topped Cuban burger. Fish was done well, sauce and butter buns in one delicious combo. Tangy pulled pork isn't my favorite, but my friend really loved it. To each their own. It's a little small but cozy and welcoming. Worth a run in for a good burger.

I've been holding off on coming here because of the poor reviews but alas one night, my coworkers ordered some carry out from here and I tasted their truffle parmesan fries. I knew I had to come for myself since they were so good. I strolled in for lunch and dined in. I must say that the tall chairs and high tables are probably meant to be space savers but they were definitely not comfortable seats by any means. Probably better because there isn't a ton of space inside anyways. But the space was clean and bright and I chose a seat that didn't have the red glowing light from the window sign that I've heard a lot of people complain about. I wouldn't enjoy my experience much either if I had that shining incessantly in my face. I had a wonderful waiter who was attentive, personable, and gave me great service! I ordered the #1 burger and blue cheese and bacon fries. As I was waiting for my food, another waitress brought around little samples of chocolate milk shakes that the owner (I think?) wanted us to try. It was delicious - a little saltier than I expected but it worked well. It was very rich and decadent and that little sample size was perfect for me! I think it'd be so cool if they did a 3 milkshake sampler in this size as an option! My burger, much to my surprise, was delicious! I've been looking for good burgers all around this city and this ranks up there for me compared to Kumas and Edzos. Perhaps it was the incredibly soft bun. Or the perfect ratio of meat to bread. Perhaps it was the tasty beef patty. Or the tasty toppings that complemented the burger. Perhaps I was just super hungry? Or all of the above. I was hesitant going in but coming out, I am now excited to try more DMK burgers! As for the fries, they were a little intense with the blue cheese on there but blue cheese is an intense flavor! I thought that the fries were perfectly salted and fried very well! They tasted very fresh and I liked the fries almost as much as I liked the burger...though next time I will go for the truffle parmesan fries.

I have now eaten here twice, both for lunch on a wkday. First I sat in the restaurant and second I ordered to go. Both times the food was excellent. The staff is very friendly and location convenient. I'd recommend anything with the fried egg to make your meal even slightly more sinful.

Wanted to give it a try, but overall fail! To start, the place has a very small area to dine in. I settled for carry out, which was no big deal....except, I wanted my burger well done, which they won't do. The order taker told me they serve them all the same, a little pink in the middle. Count me out! I want my meat well done and I don't think that is too much to ask!

I just left this place about an hour ago and it was EPIC! Jack our server was not only adorable but very knowledgeable and funny. My friend got the #1 and I got a shrimp crawfish sandwich...it was delicious. The tater tots were also great! I wasn't in the mood for fries so they worked out! I pondered on a shake but was just way too full to fit it in! Thanks DMK

Saw an old episode of Drive-in's, Diners, and Dives that featured DMK and was surprised to find out they have one close by in Evanston. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was a good experience. I went with the #4 with bacon, green chilies, jack cheese and a fried egg. It was terrific. There was a nice balance between the toppings and nothing was too over powering. A little heat from the chilies, the richness of the yolk and bacon...and the chibata style bun...everything came together nicely. We also had an order of the Parmesan fries with truffle sauce. (It's the same truffle sauce at MK Restaurant downtown and it's delicious.) The waitress, Abby, could have been the front of the house manager at a full service upscale restaurant. She was attentive to everyone in place and made us feel very welcome. We mentioned that it was our first time here despite living close by...she came over with a small "first timer welcome gift" of some fried pickles. We thought that was more of a move you'd see at a higher end restaurant. As some of the other reviews mentioned, it's not inexpensive with an average of $10 for a burger and 5/6 for a sharing size of "fancy" fries...but I thought it was worth it for the high quality of food and good service. Please note, all of the seating is on backless stools...so it's not the kind of place where you can loiter too long. They won't kick you out, it's just not that comfortable...probably by design. Overall, I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars and I would recommend it to others for a higher end burger. I'll be back!

Small, can seat a max of 20 people, that is if every seat is taken up. ONLY 2 real tables inside the restaurant, the rest are bar style seating that you can sit across from each other. The burgers are overpriced. The cheapest burgers are $9. Yes the burgers are good but really they are that big. My party ordered the eggplant pest vegetarian burger. The buns were very unique, soft and fluffy. The cod fish burger was also pretty good, did not have the special buns. Tarter sauce, cold slaw, cheese fried cod fillet. Tasted like an upscale McDonald's Fish-o-let. Salt and pepper fries, $5 for a large, nothing special. Candy cane milkshake, $5, it gave me upset stomach. The food came out SLOW!! Music kind of loud here, but I guess that's the ambiance. TV playing Monster's story the whole time without sound. Just 1 bathroom, unisex. You can draw inside with chalk. Service was nothing special, waiter was confused and went around asking everyone about one order that she forgot which party had place. I asked for lemon and water, the waiter forgot about my lemon. Asked her again, she then said they ran out of lemon. Really, you don't think you could have told me that the first time around? Spent $30 here between two people excluding taxes and tips. I could have a pretty nice sit down table cloth meal with good service elsewhere.

The thing I was most impressed about was the consistency in taste to the original. The space is tight and high bar stools only. There is no liquor license yet. The menu is still in its infancy and the fish bar aspect is almost unrelated. But the burgers shakes and fries are exactly what you'd expect. Because I love dmk on Sheffield, I love dmk on Noyes now as well. If the fish side improves great, but they would be just as well served removing fish from the title and becoming a full dmk burger bar while waiting on a nearby space to expand the fish side. But man did I walk out of there happy and satisfied

Here's the punchline: for the price, DMK's burgers are better than Edzo's or Five Guys' (FG). Unlike Edzo's or FG, you can't customize your burger willy-nilly at DMK; they don't make substitutions, so you get what you get. Despite that, DMK has come up with good combinations of toppings and sauces that result in flavorful and tasty burgers. I wish I could say the same of their fries; the salt and pepper fries have far too much pepper for me. This Evanston location has a smaller menu than the Lincoln Park location, and I hope they'll adopt the full menu in the coming months. Also, the Evanston location has a limited number of seats, so you're better off getting take out via online orders (Facebook or otherwise). At the time of writing, NU students get free tater tots if they show their WildCard.

I just ordered the # 8 and my boyfriend ordered satchmo. The satchmo is NOT worth the $12. Just a few shrimp and there's not a lot too it. Should be priced comparable to the normal burgers. The Price factor made the dish disappointing. The sweet potato fries were delicious. One of the best sweet potato fries ever tried. My burger was good. The bun very tasty. Not the best burger but definitely on the higher end of burgers.

Everything I've had at DMK has been delicious. Fries are only $1 if you have a Northwestern ID. The specialty burgers are better than their traditional cheeseburger (#8), the crabby patty being one of my favorites. You can order your meal to go, but there is also a full service seated section. On the up side, the service is really fantastic. Once there was a small mistake on our side order and we were promptly given an apology followed by a quick correction and even two tickets for a free beer on our next visit! Plus, they took off the cost of the item. On the down side, it's a tiny space and can be very cramped. This is especially problematic during the lunch rush and I've had to go elsewhere because there were no seats available.

Went there on a Sunday nigh at 9:20 (they close at 10 pm). Standed in line for 5 minutes just to be told "we are only serving fries and shakes". Burger place with no burger = 0 stars

Sunday lunch, so lazy to cook, and too lazy for something too fancy? When I feel like this, I just go to DMK. It is casual, fast, and good for lunch! My favorites are the Crabby Patty, the 6th and the 1st. The Crabby Patty is good if you want something not that heavy. The 6th is the perfect combination of meat, chorizo, and guacamole. The guacamole makes the burger so soft and really good. A good combination!!! Then, the first one is also really good, the BBQ sauce gives a very good flavor! Besides all of this, you will find yourself watching their random kitchen TV shows!

From the outside, DMK Burger & Fish is a tiny little place that seats ~20; you'd probably miss it if you didn't know what you were looking for. But it's a full-service restaurant, complete with menus, cloth napkins, and even hooks on your table's underside to hold your long winter coat when the weather outside gets frightful. They are open for lunch and dinner, and also offer pick-up-take-out food! I imagine that a large portion of their customers just come in to pick up their food, since they make online ordering very convenient. That being said, I bet that their alt-indie music creates a nice vibe on weekends when the place is probably bumpin'. But my friend and I visited on a Tuesday during lunch hour and there were two other parties sitting down to eat. *shrug* To go along with their tiny restaurant, their menu is also incredibly short and simple. Placing a focus on its gourmet burgers and seafood sandwiches, DMK B&F offers weekly specials like lobster burgers and a gingerbread shake, as well as a spiced "house ketchup" to amp up the generic burger joint experience. There was also a section for fries, beer, milkshakes, and cheese-related foods (mac and grilled), and FRIES. Talk about comfort food made gourmet. Our waitress listed the daily specials from memory! And less than ten minutes of ordering, our food arrived! I got #4 ($9), which was a classic beef patty topped with "roasted hatch green chile, fried farm egg, sonoma jack, [and] smoked bacon". You all know about my aversion to spicy foods, and my infamous tendency to always opt for mild salsa, so this chile was pretty spicy, but even those that do appreciate heat would find it mild and tingling. The egg yolk oozed just the way I like it, so that I could use the bun to sop it up afterwards. And best of all, that cornmeal dusting the bun left me looking like a coke addict! My friend Natalie asked the waitress about her favorite seafood sandwich, and she suggested the Crabby Patty, which was equally as delicious. I could really see and taste the crab in that patty, and the burger didn't just stop there with the nautical theme - it went full circle with mayo seasoned with Old Bay! $11. We also split the parmesan and truffle fries, which were relatively expensive considering the portion size we received, but justified by the birthday occasion and overall lavishness. The presentation was spot on. The fries were sprinkled with green herbs and topped with super light shaved parmesan that had started melting from the heat of the fries. It was paired with a truffle cream on the side, which was super buttery and indulgent. This place is a pale shadow of its other burger outlets, primarily on the grounds that its menu only features s few of the dozen burgers they are known for. Fortunately the several french fry treatments and the milkshakes translate over perfectly. I topped off my spicy #4 and cheddar fries with a delicious espresso milkshake. There's the whole fish side of the place that I'll have to get into on my next visit. The space, where Kim's kitchen and then Fraiche were located seems too small to handle the business volume but time will tell. For the first week of business I was really surprised how decent the service and kitchen were.

I wasn't super impressed by this place, but I guess the food was decent. 3.5 stars. We were greeted by a very attentive and courteous woman upon walking in for dine in, and our server was polite as well... except food took a LONG time to come, and it was clear the server had no idea what was going on, trying to check on us and give us our checks twice before realizing we hadn't even gotten our food. And the cramped loud environment was pretty annoying. The food was decent though. Their turkey burger was a little tough, but there was a lot of flavor and I loved the use of arugula (and nutmeg?) with the turkey. The #4 burger is perfect drunk food but can be a little heavy with the bacon and the egg and the patty. I'd go for one of the cleaner sounding burgers next time, though the menu is pretty limited right now. The #1 bbq burger is a much better alternative imo, with some brightness to cut through the fat. The parmesan truffle fries were really yummy but the fries were a little dense and not as crispy as I'd hoped. The satchmo, for $12, is not really worth it imo. It's really plain, the shrimp gets lost with the thick and overly buttery breading and lettuce and pickles, and the flavors just don't pop. Espresso shake - really delicious. But their shakes have the consistency and texture of Andy's custard so... not really a shake or a drink but feels more like it should be dessert... Definitely one of the better options on Noyes (not that there are many), especially with their hours - MIDNIGHT? Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I'd be happy to eat here if I'm craving a burger and in the area, but the quality for this price is going to keep me from going out of my way just to come here.

I have been waiting for DMK Burger to open in Evanston. I am psyched that this place is here. It is close to the Noyes Purple Line station, in the location that Kim's Kitchen and Fraiche used to occupy. These are top-notch, fresh, gourmet burgers. I had the green chile burger. It was topped with an egg. It was simple and absolutely delicious. The burger was perfectly cooked. The fries were not as crunchy as I would have liked. UPDATE: The fries were perfect on subsequent trips. On this last trip, we also tried the Mac & Cheese. The aged cheddar and parmesan crust makes this a sharp and creamy ramekin of deliciousness. Each week they feature 7-8 burgers and 3-4 fish sandwiches. When I was there, they had still not received their liquor license; but beer is coming. I recently bumped this place to 5 stars because of the price. For the money this place is AWESOME!

Small place, unique set up but solid food! I had the burger with chorizo, and avocado, it was amazing! The fries are also equally delicious and a variety to choose from. I don't typically like bread...but the hamburger buns melt in your mouth! Can't wait to go back!

The burgers are aite, more like 3.5 stars than 3. taste more toppings and sauce rather than the patty. Nothing close to kumas! However, the fish burgers are well tasty. The setup of the place is pretty funky and casual...you be watching food channel shows on their TV while having lunch!

Food was very good and worth the price. Service was prompt but not hustled, but servers also seemed pretty disinterested. I was there at the tail end of the lunch hour when I assume most students had left, so the staff was perhaps breathing a sigh of relief as these restaurants near NU tend to get crowded. It is open seating at some large communal tables and a counter. The lone waiter for the small dining area seemed irritated that we sat down, saying "I still need to clean this" as he glared at me over his Warby Parkers. Fries were good but not amazing, so maybe save a few extra dollars. They do have a small and large portion option, though, which is nice. I'll be back, probably for take-out.

Missed a star because I was expecting the full menu of DMK; not a combined DMK/Fish Bar menu. If you want Lakeviews ambiance, it's not even close. It is totally catering to the students. Best of luck to them thou.

5 star waitress Tess. 3 star food. It's good but overpriced. Also , most everything has extra spice, tater tots, fries, even the ketchup is extra zesty. Which is nice at first but after a while might wear on some. I heard a little kid exclaim," these tater tots are hurting my tongue! Atmosphere was noisy and uncomfortable. Music so loud it was hard to have a conversation. Seating was a bunch of metal stools. They really need to get their beer license if they are going to stick with the current scenario.

The idea is good, but the execution wasn't right. I got the #1 which comes with bacon on it. There was about a inch and a half of bacon on it. I would expect at least one slice of bacon on a burger that advertises bacon. Additionally, the bun was a little burned and the meat was a little tough. They need to go with medium/medium well, not well done with grass-fed beef since grass fed is a leaner tougher meat. Then to rub it in..after picking up our food that we ordered to go we had a change of plans (and there were plenty of open seats) and were hoping to sit down for 10 min to eat, but they said we couldn't. I get if it's a nice sit down, but it's a burger place. I've been to the one in Lombard, and that dmk was much better.

Still great burgers. I thought the prices were high, but the wildcard special (free fries) make it an affordable option for students

First off, don't bother with the shakes. I didn't realize until it was too late, but they're all just vanilla with syrup mixed in, resulting in an overly sweet, and artificial tasting shake. I got the #4 (roasted hatch green chile, fried egg, Sonoma Jack, and bacon). It was ok. Not particularly tasty, I ended up putting ketchup on it. You couldn't really taste the bacon nor the cheese. The fries (sea salt and black pepper) though were pretty good... Best part of the meal.

I know this location just opened, but maybe they should have waited a few more months. I felt like I was dining in an emergency shelter set up in a post-apocalyptic future. Crowded barstools set up along a long communal plywood table, lukewarm water in my glass, rolls of paper towels for napkins, and worst of all, an 8-foot tall flickering red neon sign 2" away from my face. The whole place is bathed in flickering red neon light. It was very claustrophobic in there, and before you think I'm really into manifest destiny or something, I spent a year in Tokyo frequenting tiny noodle shops that have more elbow room than DMK Evanston. The menu is a shadow of the other locations', offering a #1, #4, #9 -- they want you to be fully aware that you are missing out on everything else, apparently. I had the #1 burger which was very good, living up to my expectations set by other DMK locations. On food taste alone, would give 5 stars. Another major source of sadness, no liquor license yet. If you want a taste of the dystopian future, where food supplies are scarce and without variety, alcohol is "coming soon", and you gulp down your food before the emergency lighting gives you a seizure-- by all means, dine in at DMK Evanston. Otherwise, grab carryout if you're within walking distance. If you have a car, GET OUT OF TOWN, and evacuate immediately to another DMK location.

Best veggie burger I've had! The atmosphere and food is near perfection. I'm a fan of the seasonal shakes and delicious veggie burger they have (the #12). The only reason why I'm giving a 4 star review is because the service could be faster and the seating could be expanded to fit more people.

  • Vitoria R.

If this review was based on food alone, it would be a solid 5 stars. This was the perfect, delicious comfort food I needed after a long week. I had the Gobbler, a Thanksgiving-themed special and it was so so good. Turkey patty, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and most amazing was a stuffing patty that was rich and highly flavored. I also ordered a chocolate milkshake and the sea salt and black pepper fries--both were great as well. The chocolate milkshake was basically ice cream, and 80% of the fries went to the doggy bag to save room in my tummy for more burger, but they were still awesome. Speaking of, unless you have a big appetite, you can anticipate a full meal to really serve for two meals--at least for me it certainly did! That makes the moderately high price tag more worthwhile. The atmosphere unfortunately left a little bit to be desired. Thankfully, my friend and I showed up at a good time, so we were seated right away, but the dining area is pretty small. There are bar stools along the window facing towards the outside, and then a few communal seating tables in the middle. All in all, it's very cramped, and they play music rather loudly (though their playlist was jammin'). The service was very nice and helpful, though it took about 20 minutes for them to get our check correct. However, they gave us a coupon for a free beer or milkshake for next time, which was really sweet! DMK is a must-try for anyone that loves a good burger with creative toppings--and you can avoid the cramped seating area with carry-out. Can't wait to go back!

Extremely tasty, overpriced BBQ burger. Ordered both tots and sweet potato fries, both WOEFULLY over-seasoned, like, out of control. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said, "you can order less salt next time." Hi, wrong answer! I Insisted that they were inedible, and sent them back. They were too expensive to shrug off. Someone else came out and was very apologetic, and brought us new potatoes, which were still very salty but at least we could eat them. Look, DMK in Evanston. This is, like, the 5th yelp review where you have been told YOUR FOOD IS TOO SALTY. It is, at this point, it is disrespectful to your customers not to fix the problem. Maybe you just need a shaker in the back with smaller holes, or put shakers on your tables so customers can season to taste. Your waitresses are sweet but need more training. Three stars because the food that was edible was very yummy, and the menu is so appealing. I would even give it another shot. I hope they can tweak and make it. It's like so many places in Evanston that have come and gone...a few dollars too much, rough around the edges, and 'bye-'bye. Paper plate food at linen tablecloth prices. Poor value and uneven service are not sustainable, even if a menu is.

I came here with my 4 year old son for lunch last week. The space is tiny, but inviting. We dined-in and got to sample a few things on the menu. My son was being very chatty with the staff, asking about 42 questions a minute. Thankfully, they were all very friendly, patient and great with him. Our server, Annick, was wonderful. She knew the menu really well and explained everything we wanted to know about, including all of my son's random questions. I ordered the basic DMK burger with bacon and cheese. My son ordered the Mac & cheese. We split a tray of tots. All of it was quite tasty. My son loved the tater tots more than the Mac, but I think next time, I'll have them leave the parm crunch off of it for him (which was offered, but I passed). He also enjoyed his chocolate shake quite a bit, insisting we take it with us when we left. Overall, we really liked this place and I see us coming back again for future lunches together.

Rated M for Meh. I've tried this place twice. I really want to like it, (convenient location near the Noyes purple line) but it just isn't very good. First of all, the food: Grass-fed beef, which is nice. Decent size. Tomatoes were a bit soggy. S&P fries, way too much salt both times, I couldn't eat more than a few. House-made ketchup was good. Service, also Meh: I placed an order online and was confirmed that it would be ready at 2:25. I showed up at 2:30 and still had to wait 10 min. I was handed my bag and I noticed there were no napkins. When I asked for a few, she ripped off a 6inch piece of brown paper towel and stuffed it in the bag. Maybe the business is trying to go green and doesn't offer napkins to go? Anyway, they weren't rude or anything, but for a $17 burger, fries, & can of coke, the overall experience is probably not one I'd give a third shot to.

This was the best burger I have had in the Chicago area, but also one of the best burgers I have ever had. I had a #4 which was a burger with an egg and green chiles. It was a bit spicy but nothing overwhelming. The burger patties were seasoned very well and had excellent flavor. The bun on the bottom was a little soft so I opted to eat the last half of the burger with a fork. I went there with my wife for lunch at about noon. I was surprised that the restaurant wasn't crowded. It was a "shared table" arrangement, we got a counter spot. Our server was prompt and friendly. The food came very quickly after we ordered it. The menu is somewhat small but I love that in a restaurant, it made the decision easy. I've noticed some of the comments complain about the price. I'd say though the food is on the pricey side, it's well worth the price. The food all seemed to be of very high quality and the restaurant was very clean. I'd give this my highest marks, glad to get another great restaurant in Evanston.

I absolutely love DMK. I've been four or five times and have never been disappointed. I've tried a different burger each time including the special burgers for when the NU football team and Blackhawks are playing and have really really enjoyed every single one. Also, $1 for fries (as an NU student) and the amazing tater tots and $1 beers is just the greatest deal there is. Also, the shakes are just ridiculous and the service is fantastic - highly recommend DMK Burger & Fish for everyone who loves burgers, fries, and/or beer.

This place is DELISH. The burgers are out of this world, and the fries are delightful. I had the #6 burger with portabella mushrooms, blue brie, scallions, and dijonnaise. It was STELLAR, from bun to bun. The parmesan garlic fries with truffle cream sauce were very, very good (I don't mind a soggy fry). The atmosphere is lacking (hence the 4 stars), but it's a super small space and there's not much they can do about that. I went at 8PM on a Tuesday and waited less than 10 minutes for my carryout order. It's definitely worth going to! The staff is friendly and attentive, and the place is *clean*. Really worth a trip!

Northwestern Students just got DMK Burger & Fish. I got a tasty Crabby Patty & friend got #4 Burger which came with egg which would be perfect late night eats. Evanston location open until midnight Fri. & Sat. PS heard people in line raving about the veggie burger being amazing. Skip the wait order online for pickup, it's Worth It, at dmkburgerfish.com

A greaser, more expensive Five Guys, if you like grease this is your spot. Wait staff is great, too bad DMK won't last long in E-Town. Price, value is not there, Etno in Lincoln Park is head & shoulders better, and less expensive

Staff was great. When we walked in we were greeted by a nice young man behind the counter and Pedro was a great server. Very sweet guy. Very accommodating. The menu is an abbreviated version of what I am assuming are the best sellers at DMK burger and fish (hence the name). The specials will be the same as the original in Lakeview but there was no wait. It's a small location in Evanston but it's a cute set up with counter style seating and communal tables in the middle. The food is, of course excellent. The ONLY reason for my 3.5 ( I can't do half stars) is that they didn't include the portobello burger at this location. That is the BEST PORTOBELLO burger I've had. Please bring it to this location so that the lovely people of Evanston can also partake in this gift from God. Sharing is caring DMK! I crave the Wisconsin cheddar fries and they did not disappoint. Thank you for the extra time in the gym. It was worth even bite!

the food is amazing, but they were very disorganized. they have an open kitchen and there was ALOT of cross contamination. THey were cracking eggs and touching the raw meat and then assembling burgers. NO GLOVES. They were wiping sweat off their brow with those hands too. Dont have an open kitchen if you cant make me not want to eat the food. ew.

Overall, good. As of now, they are carrying a limited menu. I was told they would gradually add items to their menu. Food was great. I had the #1 with parm truffle fries...delish. Paid $15 so, a little pricey for a burger and fries.

Having been to the DMK in Chicago, I was so excited to have one in Evanston. The first time I was there, the food was just under the quality of the location in Chicago. Giving them another chance, I ventured a second visit and it was disastrous. Everything was so salty that it was inedible. We ordered the #10, #8, buffalo chicken burger, fried pickles, and blue cheese fries. We tried to eat as much as we could but halfway through, I think the sodium level in my body was so high that I began to get migraines. We told the server and she said they had a new deep fry cook and he was probably oversalting the food - um, you think? She was nice enough to take the pickles and fries off our bill but having to pay for 3 uneaten burgers is not okay. Needless to say, I will not be going back but instead will fire up the Prius and head to Chicago.

DMK is seriously amazing!!! They have great hours and the food is REALLY good. Really high quality meats, interesting sauces, and great specials that change fairly often! The service is fantastic - I come here a lot and they often give us free shake shots to try various shakes! They're delicious and always a happy surprise!! The fries are amazing - I usually get a wildcard special (now $1 for tots, salt and pepper fries, or sweet potato), but once I got the parmesan truffle and they were very delicious. Also a plus - their ketchup is really tasty - has a little bit of a kick to it and really adds to the meal! I love DMK Burger and Fish and it has a great location for NU students living out in this neighborhood!

I had wanted to try this place and my daughter had been to the other location and said the food was very good. Unfortunately that was not the case at this place. When I ordered I asked how the burger was cooked and was told that the chef decides that and that they are all medium - pink in the center. I was not happy because, to me, there is nothing worse than an overcooked burger especially when you advertise that your meat is primo and grass fed (what a waste of good meat). I ordered the #8 with salt & pepper fries and my daughter ordered the turkey burger with cheese and scallion sauce fries. Originally we had intended to dine there but I have a disability with my legs which makes it impossible for me to get up on high stools which are also very uncomfortable. Okay, we live only 5 minutes away so everything should still be good. The food was terrible. Besides being overcooked everything was soggy and limp. The cheese was almost impossible to find and could not be tasted and the burger was not very flavorful for being such good meat. The other ingredients (tomato, lettuce, onion) were also limp and did not taste fresh. The fries were way - way overcooked, unattractive (small brown crispy pieces mixed in with some longer soggy fries). I ate about 1/2 of my burger and had had enough. My dog reaped the benefit of this. My daughters was equally unappetizing and she ate barely 1/3 of it. This place was not cheap either and our wait (we were told 10 minutes) was much, much longer. Overall, not a good experience and I will certainly not return. Edzo's you are still number 1 in my eyes. I will mention that the staff was very nice and one gave my daughter a coupon for a free drink due to our long wait but this is as far as I can go to say anything positive.

The burger might be the best ever, fresh, tasty, rich blend of flavors in the #1. I would recommend that the sweet potato fries be a little less salted.

Don't get sucked in by hype. There are way better burger places in Chicago. We went there on Monday and eat in. All the burgers were way to salty, the buns got soggy very fast and the food was presented on tiny plates. We will not return, and you should pass it by.

    (1)
  • Paul D.

Meh, overcooked burger and overcooked egg (not runny). $9 for a burger with about an inch and a half of bacon and a patty that is well smaller than the bun. Blue cheese and bacon fries with much more blue cheese dressing than crumbles is silly for $4 for a small order. With so many upscale burger places everywhere you look, this one isn't on par with others in its price range. I'd avoid.

  • Silvia R.

Ordered the Satchmo and Crabby Patty, which tasted great but for the price were really tiny. And I mean REALLY tiny. I wish I'd taken a picture, both my hubby and I were still hungry after finishing. We wondered if maybe we got smaller portions because we ordered to go? Who knows. They gave us free sweet potato fries with the NU Wildcard which was a nice touch. For flavor and quality I'd give them 5 stars, but it's not a good value. We probably won't be back.

DMK.... you can't do this to me! I love ya, but you messed up my order! And worst of all, it had bacon in it, which I can't eat. I took it to go and didn't even realize until I got home. WAH. I was looking forward to my #8.... Please don't mess it up next time!

Nice place.

They tasted very fresh and I liked the fries almost as much as I liked the burger...though next time I will go for the truffle parmesan fries.

i give five stars for service, four stars for their food. dmz in evanston is a good place for hangout with your friends but not for date night. overall, they did good.

Thanks DMK

Good service, good atmosphere, but the food quality isn't up to the price. The burgers tend to be very squishy/textureless - the meat is fine, but limp bun and limp fillings with only okay flavor. Sweet potato fries are always overseasoned.

Don't get sucked in by hype. There are way better burger places in Chicago. We went there on Monday and eat in. All the burgers were way to salty, the buns got soggy very fast and the food was presented on tiny plates. We will not return, and you should pass it by.

  • Alain G.

The burger might be the best ever, fresh, tasty, rich blend of flavors in the #1. I would recommend that the sweet potato fries be a little less salted.

    (4)

  • Vishal K.

    (4)

Nope.

  • Jon B.
