Oh Mr. G's... It's across from Jewel on York and Butterfield in a little strip mall. The outside doesn't look impressive and the inside doesn't either. But once you walk in it reminds of all those small local diners and restaurants full of regulars. That's because it is. The owner is always there greeting people, hugging them and making sure they are taken care of. I usually come here for breakfast. While they have your typical array for breakfast items all of them above average they have a little secret. They are one of the few places in the suburbs to get an Irish Breakfast! It's hard to find Irish Breakfast anywhere outside of the city but here's one and it's better than most of the places in the city! I love clogging my arteries with this fatty protein filled breakfast and so happy that Mr. G's has it. Even if you are not looking for an Irish Breakfast this place is still good, plenty of friendly people and good prices. I'd say it's a must go!

Mr. G is one of the nicest restaurant owners I have encountered. There is nothing better than a restaurant owner, who talks to his customers because he truly wants to ensure that they are satisfied with their service, etc., and Mr. G is always walking through the restaurant making sure everything is okay. The portions are large and the prices are great. It is a very kid friendly restaurant. Mr. G's is a great asset to South Elmhurst.

My fiancee and i love Mr G's! Its a diner, plain and simple. Its not fine dining but if you want diner fare Mr G's is the place for you. Made from scratch food has been fantastic since we started going there a few years ago. The owners are friendly and remember who you are. Best breakfast potatoes! On a side note, I went in once for takeout, which we never do and the owner noticed my fiancee was in the car. He asked why and I told him she was sick and a little under the weather which is why we were getting takeout and soup (awesome homemade soups also). He made a point to come out to the car and say hi and wish her well. (note to other business owners its the little things some times). We don't go anywhere else for breakfast unless we are out of town. Again, its a diner so do NOT expect fine dining but if you want a great home cooked meals with great service go to Mr G's! P.S. look for us as we are usually in a booth near the door and there once or twice a week!

Who would've guessed. My daughter was celebrating her birthday and had a request for pie instead of cake. Little known secret Mr. G's has the best homemade cherry pies. Would have given it five stars but my Gandma Martha's cherry pie is the best. The pies are homemade by the owners wife with quality ingredients...Trader Joe's cherries. I highly recommend giving it a try and they're very reasonably priced.

Great little restaurant in south Elmhurst. Reminds you of the quaint restaurants in little towns. We had breakfast here and got eggs, sausage hash browns with pancakes. Everything was cooked to perfection and NOT greasy. I will defiantly make this my go to for breakfast place from now on and have to try their lunch specials.

Did you ever say to yourself, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing?" Well, I just did. The Mr. G's Pork Tenderloin Sandwich was huge and delicious. It was a recommendation from my brother and now I'm recommending it to you. Also, the vegetable noodle soup was awesome, with lots of vegetables and a great broth. There's another cliché that I found true today, and that is, "you can't judge a book by its cover". Mr. G's is not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. It's a diner. You might easily take a pass just based on the aesthetics alone, but you shouldn't. You don't have to take my word for it. Check out the reviews. All are positive. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Yelp!'

I have been coming here for years and never encountered "attitude" from the servers. Based on my long ago experience in retail, I know that atitude on the part of the customer can beget attitude on the part of a sales clerk or server. Perhaps, unknowingly, Michael put the server off with his own behavior, considering he is the only one complaining. Sometimes the high school girls the owner frequently hires can be a little clueless, but they have to learn somewhere, and I think it's great he gives them a chance. Most of the staff, however, have been in the business for years and know their stuff. BYW - the pizza is very good with a great sauce, not too sweet. The homemade pies are to die for. My only complaint is the bacon; they weight it while frying. I don't like flat bacon, so I order sausage, which is very good.

Very nice more traditional Chicago Style Pizza. While we have a Mr. G's Pizza, well two of them actually in Bryan and College Station, I wanted to see if this was the same, and apparently it's not. I sort of prefer the Mr. G's in College Station, Texas the most.

Based in part upon feedback/responses from fellow Yelpers, and Mr. G's staff, I decided to give the place another shot and am updating my review -- adding a star. I am including my original comments below but will add the following based upon my latest visit: 1) Service was superb. Our waitress, and the owner, went out of their way to make sure that our family had a great meal. 2) The homemade soups and pies are quite good; and reasonably priced. While the food was in my eyes typical diner fare, it was not bad. Certainly better than during my first visit. Given the prices and service I will probably give Mr. G's a try again when I am looking for a quick meal near home. Original Review: Located in a strip-mall with poor parking, but since it is nearby I figured I would try it. I thought it might be a "friendly local diner." Well...there were lots of "regulars" in there from what I could gather, but my service was quite poor. The food was not very good, leaving me with the feeling that it was mostly reheated and deep-fried frozen food, with sauces from jars. Add to it the bland outdated atmosphere, and I don't think I'll be returning. It was not necessarily bad. It was clean and the food was tolerable. But with so many choices in the area one can get much better for the money.

It had been a long time since I was there and saw them on restaurant.com and I thought let's try it again and glad we did. The prices were very good and the owner and staff was very friendly and caring. It is a nice place and clean inside and out. I only have one regret that i did not get there earlier or call to reserve a piece of pie or cake that the owners wife makes daily unlike the majority of restaurants bringing in desserts from another place. i will be back and look forward to trying a piece of a home made dessert. I also enjoyed the soup which is homemade as well. I say give it a try you will like it.

My fiance and I love Mr. G's. We have a great meal everytime we come here. We've been lucky, because every time we come here, we get great service and enjoy a terrific meal. Although the interior is modest, the food is terrific diner food. Decently priced, they have a wide range of food - breakfast, pizza, wraps, sandwiches, burgers, etc. I almost always get the buffalo chicken wrap or the southwestern wrap. I always eat half and save the rest for lunch the next day, and it is still really good the next day. My fiance always gets the breakfasts and he raves about the skillets/corned beef hash. The food comes unbelievably fast. Mr G's is definitely our go-to place. Unfortunately, we'll be moving soon so we won't frequent Mr. G's as often as we do now, but it is definitely a little gem in the neighborhood. What I find charming is how many regulars come here. They are very friendly, and many are elderly. The owner/manager is a truly nice man, and seems dedicated to making sure his customers leave happy. I imagine he was not working when Yelp reviewed Nyxie came in, because I think he would have been appalled Nyxie was treated that way. I feel bad that Nyxie did not have a good experience - I would be pretty upset, too, if I had the same experience as Nyxie.

Mr. Gs Restaurant, sits in a little strip mall located at York Road and Butterfield Road in Elmhurst, Il. It is very easy to miss and not marked very good. The parking is also a problem at that location. A friend and I were at the establishment for a business meeting. The restaurant has both booths, tables and counter seating. We sat at a table. The room temp. in the restaurant was cold. The sevice was also not very good. The waitress was unfriendly, and cold. I guess cold temps equal cold people. I ordered a Cancun Salad. The salad had Cajun chicken, fresh mushrooms, tomatoes, spourts, avocado, cheese and cancun dressing on it. However the salad had no Argula on it. I love Argula, its the best vegetable on there. I put a dash of Tobasco Sauce on the salad , because, I like spicy and hot. I found the salad very good. The bread basket contained fresh rolls, very good but very starchy. My friend had breakfast which he enjoyed. We were having problems with the waitress refilling our coffee. I find that unacceptable for a breakfast place. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is available all day for those who have that desire. Every Friday they have a Fish Fry, all the beer battered perch you can eat. They also seve homemade thin crust pizza which I have never tried. They serve a 12" , 14" 16" 18" , , pizza's with the freshest ingredients. The prices however are a little high for what is provided. The food may have been good, but due to the bad service I rated them two stars. The parking was problem, the room temp was cold, the waitress was cold. I was waiting to see if the food was cold, which it was not. I give it a cold two stars. Will try again in the future to see if things get better.
