So one of my girlfriends asks me the other day... Do you like sushi?? I gave her my usual answer... I like good sushi. I've had plenty of crap that wants to be called sushi that gives the dish a bad wrap... hehehe!! Anyway, I've never had sushi in the St Louis area that "wow"ed me... until Wasabi. This place rocks!! The small storefront has a good number of tables but it's still kinda small. I'm sure it could fill up quickly. Open atmosphere makes it look very room. Waiter was very pleasant and service was quick. I have to say it was a bit chilly in there that evening, so we were more than happy to finish up and get going to our party, otherwise very nice atmosphere. My friend started with Miso soup and said it was very yummy!! Then I had the Wasabi Special. My friend had the spicy chicken and vegetarian selections. All were very yummy!! I've had this and much more at Wasabi in St Louis and have to say the Wasabi Roll was my favorite of all. The flavors were bolder and just popped in your mouth!! The Edwardsville location didn't disappoint for a minute!! Definitely will be going back here when i'm in the mood for sushi. Can't wait to try other rolls and dishes as well. Oh yeah, and don't forget to order a little more than what you expect to eat... these make great breakfast leftovers!!

Has to be one of my favorite places to go for Sushi, especially since it's the second sushi place to come to Edwardsville. Sake is offered, as well as many choices of beer and they also have new rolls of sushi constantly coming out. Servers are always popping around to see how you're doing and offer any suggestions on new items to have. All around a great place!

I live a couple blocks from here, and it is great that I can get a decent healthy meal, at a decent price, so conveniently. Some interesting rolls, weird in their execution (too big), but quality as good as can be expected for So ILL. Probably should of made it only 3 stars, but they don't get all Sushi Nazi on me when I ask for sriracha and I can walk there. * Note - Global brew is upstairs and they really should leverage that. From what I heard, they won't deliver upstairs. Missing out on a natural opportunity. Very myopic and greedy - tripping over pennies and missing the dollars. Too bad too, because we get pizza delivered instead.

I'm surprised by the Yelpers who think this place is overpriced. A dinner for two, stuffing ourselves on sushi, usually comes out to about $40. For good sushi in the Midwest I don't think that's unreasonable. The rolls here are mostly delicious. My friend and I don't go for tuna, which makes us unusual in the sushi world, but there is such a variety of rolls here it doesn't matter. The Wasabi Special, Washington Avenue, Alaska Roll, and the new Yummy Roll are all favorites. Hurricane is tasty but has a bit of a fishy taste from the crawfish. If you like crawfish you should be fine but if you're not a fan, beware! you can definitely taste it. Service is fast, the rolls are the right size (not the supersized ridiculous rolls some places serve, but big enough to please), and the quality is consistently good. Service is fine - they keep our glasses full, but don't hover. Atmosphere is nice in a town rife with dives, chains, and noisy family restaurants. The best recommendation I can give is that I dine here at least twice a month, or else I start craving it!

This used to be my favorite.... my go-to.... Now, I refuse to go there. I wrote a previous review for Wasabi praising their delicious menu. Then they went and reinvented the darn thing. Their seaweed salad no longer resembles a decent side dish, even tasting slightly like chicken. My favorite, the okonomi yaki, they changed so drastically that I didn't recognize it... When I asked them why they had made these changes, they responded that it was to make it more popular. The atmosphere is still great and the staff is still good. Those are the only aspects that salvage Wasabi any rating stars. So if you'd like to experience what happens to a sushi place when they try to "mainstream" Japanese dishes, then this is the place for you. If you're looking for great food with traditional favorites and amazing and interesting specials, go across town to Nori.

I'm going to lunch here today. Just look for the cave man, yah me! So easy a caveman can do it. Look, this is the best sushi in St. Louis. Well, its as good as it gets for the Midwest. Its about quality. You can't make good sushi with crappy, stale ingredients. The chefs at Wasabi in St. Louis city, Clayton, and Edwardsville know what they are doing. The ingredients are fresh. The production of the sushi rice is well packed. The fried ingredients such as tempura are puffy, but not too thin, and for the love of god, thankfully not too deep fried and not overwhelmed with flour. The ambience is peaceful, well air conditioned, and clean. You don't want to eat sushi in a crap hole. I want the sense of holiness and not that the chef wiped his buttocks before making my rolls. The price is ok. Oddly, sushi cost slightly more at Edwardsville than at the Clayton location. Anyhow, when I have real sushi guests from out of town, I take them to a Wasabi location at any one of them for good quality. When I want cheap decent sushi, I go to Sushi AI in Maryland Heights.

My friends and I ate here last night. We had a party of six. We got there about 6:30 and it was busy but they had a table for us. The server was really freindly and helpful with the menu. Food arrived quickly and everything was delicious and fresh. We ordered a wide variety of food and everyone liked eveything. The atmosphere was beautiful and fun. I deducted one star for poor choice of dinning music. I wasn't in a rap mood whilst eating my yummy sushi I guess. Overall great experience! I hope we can get back there soon!

Sushi is really great. Very creative rolls. Great hours. The atmosphere is great and Wasabi is large enough that getting a table is never a problem. I also appreciate the large table options for bigger groups and families - we eat here at least once a week. Definitely go for lunch, the lunch combos are great and so much cheaper than dinner. Liquor options here are also decent.

I used to go here but the prices have sky rocketed. they use to have this 2 roll special with miso soup and salad included. now they removed that and the other special does not include miso soup nor salad. my friend once found a fly in his salad so that is another reason we don't go there. he also once found a hair on his california roll. Yeach!! the portions use to be pretty big, but not anymore. i gave the place 2 stars because the manager was really nice and he once gave us green tea ice cream for st. patrick's day.

This used to be one of our favorite haunts, but we moved from the area and haven't been back for a year. In that year, several things have changed: The music is too, for want of a better term, urban nightclub. Not conducive for conversation or for enjoying a leisurely meal. The service used to be amateur but friendly. Now it's gothy and terse. The prices have gone way up. Rolls that were $10.50 are now $12, old price $7 now $9. But the nigiri-style has literally doubled - the price that used to get you two pieces now gets you one. So $63 later, we were still a little hungry. Everything was plenty tasty, just not much of it for the dollars. The homey touches like actual Kikkoman bottles, Kirin beer glasses and unique little earthenware dishes have been replaced with confusing salad dressing bottles (seriously, the staff was even annoyed by them), standard glassware and sterile white ceramic squares. Kinda like the place went a little bit upscale emo. So I don't know that we'll be back. Maybe we'll win the lotto and then order take-out so we can take our time without the annoying music and hurried service.

I would go back to Wasabi. The food is good. Just don't expect to find yourself immersed in Japanese culture. It is totally Americanized.

recently new to sushi but i really enjoyed the food and waitstaff was great. it can get pricey but hell your there to have a good time and the larger portions can be split between several people. remember that there is a full bar and not to get tricked into specialty drinks on the menu. its a trap.

I've been tossing and turning all night worried about the kind of review I should write for this place. It gets two stars: 1 for the service and another for effort. Unfortunately, Wasabi completely failed in the food category. I understand that it may be more challenging to get fresh fish out here in the Midwest, but the food we had here was a poor excuse for sushi. We stopped in during Happy Hour and sat at the sushi bar. Our waitress was very attentive and, in fact, the service was great. I wish that the rolls we ordered were up to par. We ordered a salmon roll and noticed that it tasted a bit different from the salmon rolls I've always eaten. Then we figured it out: it was smoked salmon. I'm totally open to mixing things up, but that's part of the whole concept of eating sushi: raw fish! Not smoked/salted fish... Next up: the Crazy roll. This one was just bad. I couldn't eat more than 2 pieces. We had also ordered some sushi pieces, including tuna and hamachi. Just looking at it, you could tell it wasn't fresh, therefore it was left untouched on the plate. I was, however, surprised that the Unagi was good as well as the shrimp tempura roll. I'm gonna guess that their cooked food is much better than the raw sushi. Even with Happy Hour prices, the bill came out to $40. Normally, I wouldn't scoff at $40 for sushi, but I didn't feel as if we got our money's worth. I'm biting my tongue saying this, but I would venture to say that the 4 star reviews were given by folks who haven't tasted great sushi. I've been spoiled and totally took for granted the awesome sushi places that we had in SoCal. I only hope that I'll be able to find a sushi place around here that is up to those standards.

I feel that this place is a little overpriced, but it's sushi so I guess it's okay! The sushi here is good, the atmosphere is also a nice one. The decor is really cool. Their lunch menu is half the price of the dinner menu so if you can, go for lunch!

I couldn't ask for more in a small town. Great selection rolls and I can't seem to remember not one specialty but I would return if I'm in the area.

I LOVE this restaurant. My husband and I eat there about once a week. The food is amazing and the service is always top notch. We have ate at several sushi bars and this one is by far our favorite. The Wasabi special roll is outstanding, but I have to say I have never had anything there that I didn't just absolutely love. Highly recommend this restaurant.

My absolute favorite sushi place! The menus are set up very nicely, the kitchen food is also fantastic! When I was there they had some SIUE jazz musicians playing, it was great. The server was great, the food looked and tasted great (as usual). I would definitely recommend!

It is time to wasabi another try read below If you have been disappointed by Wasabi in the past. It is time to give them another try. They went through headquarter changes as an article in sauce/feast magazine in I believe February 2014 and are now on point an true contender for your sushi dollars!!!!!! After over a year, I was invited back to try the wasabi I knew when they first opened up in edwardsville. I was more than overwhelmed. The fish more than fresh, it was simple beautiful. My husband who enjoys sushi, not rolls. He had the sashimi said was superb. My pieces of nigiri fresh and perfect. If you are a true sushi person, not just rolls, although their rolls are fantastic, rice which is one the true signs of a great sushi place. The rice was as rice should be right texture, yes taste, and constancy. Chef Won is obviously very skill and knows what he is doing. He served a fabulous piece of sea bass, that brought tears as I ate it. Beautifully seared, on a wonderful crispy rice cake with a sweet, mild heat, tangy party in your mouth experience. I trust him. I am sure my husband will be trying Omakase very soon. I think having manager Lauren May as the face of wasabi is stroke of genius. She cares about the appearance, performance, reputation of wasabi. If management does not let this young lady write her own ticket in the organization. It would be tremendous lack of foresight. She cares and it undeniably shows. Which is rare in any corporation. Between Lauren's excellent customer service as manager, Chef Won superb skill as chef, finally a great waiting staff. Wasabi is back and so are we as regulars. Thank you, Ms. Lauren May, Chef Won, our waiter Mat.

This used to be my favorite Sushi spot on the East Side but we recently made the trek up to Edwardsville on Saturday only to find they got rid of lunch. We went out on a limb and tried a new sushi place in Granite City that was not only cheaper but also offered higher quality food. This place is decent but not when it's so close to better options.

Tried this place out because I'm a sushi addict...lets just say i was not impressed. First it was overpriced and the philly roll was ehhh. I also had an eel roll which was my first time having and it was pretty good. But it definitly tasted like commercialized sushi. Something about it just didnt have good flavor. Bland i guess? Anyways, it all just seemed too americanized so I dont think i will be making another visit.

The sushi were always pretty good but the staff were always consistently fairly bad. The times I've been to dinner and lunch here, they manage to forget something that had been ordered. They aren't too attentive and a few times, I was left to sit and wait for a while to get a refill on my drink even when they saw it's been empty for quite some time. I agree with the review claiming that the portions have gone down noticeably.

Very good! My sister goes here quite a bit. Nice outdoor seating area. Service was good and fast. Fish was fresh. Side salad basic yummy dressing. Dip for tempura veggies was bland but veggies are good. Will be back!

While many from the area are ride or die for Wasabi Sushi, I've definitely had better sushi out there. The sushi was actually decent, but the service was a huge turn off for me hence the low rating. We came here for a friend's birthday with about 12 people. The dining room itself is pretty tiny so accommodating a group our size was a bit difficult. There is additional outdoor seating as well. If you're not sure what to order, I'd recommend going in a larger group so you can try out different types of rolls and figure out what you really like. Some of the rolls I remember us ordering included: -Playboy roll (Shrimp Tempura & Spicy Tuna Roll, topped with Salmon & Avocado) -Fox roll (Shrimp Tempura & Cucumber, topped with Avocado & Crunch) -Kamikaze roll (Spicy Tuna, Crab, Avocado Roll, Deep Fried, Served with Ponzu) -Geisha roll (Tuna, Yellowtail, Smoked Eel, Cucumber, Wasabi Tobiko) -Wasabi Special (California Roll, Spicy Crunch, Chili Mayo) Like I stated earlier, the rolls were fine, but the major issue I had was with the service. The first mistake was to put all of the maki rolls together in a single boat for all 12 people which made it difficult for people at one end of the table to grab the rolls they ordered. Furthermore, the server failed to tell everyone which rolls they ordered which left us to differentiate between the rolls on our own. He wasn't attentive and didn't do the best job of checking in on us to make sure everything was okay. I get that we were a larger group with only one server, but it was disappointing nonetheless. Maybe assign more than one server next time? I'd be willing to give Wasabi another shot, but definitely with less people. Check in on your yelp app and get a 10% discount!

My hobby is bodybuilding so I always have to maintain a clean diet. Fortunately Wasabi sushi came to the rescue! Sushi is high in protein and Wasasbi's brown rice option allowed me to eat clean carbs. I saw a Wasabi near me in Fairview Heights but this is my first time trying it and I must say that I had a satisfying experience. I started with the seafood salad as an appetizer. The seawood dressing was just right and it didn't taste too vinegary and not too sweet. For the main course I stuck with different Nigiri. I had two each of Sake (Salmon), Ikura (Salmon Roe), and Maguro (Yellowfin Tuna). The sushi tasted surprisingly fresh...didn't expect sushi to taste like this in Edwardsville. Coming from Chicago I was used to fresh sushi but I definitely paid more when I was out there. Considering how busy the place was the service was great as well...my server constantly filled my drinks and checked up on me a few times. The most impressive fact was that a person named John asked if I was enjoying my experience and asked if I wanted to try some complimentary tea. It felt great receiving such attention. I only realized after I spoke with the server that John was the owner! There is no question I will be coming back. The sushi was fresh, the service was excellent, and most importantly I felt like family. Bravo!

I eat at Wasabi with the other attorneys I work with often for lunch. I recommend starting with the Squid salad and then ordering rolls to share. Wasabi has a wide variety of rolls including ones that are decadent, fried, and delicious. I'm sure I'll eat here again for lunch.

Wasabi is a wonderful and quite inexpensive sushi restaurant. Often times when searching for a sushi restaurant, a consumer has to decide between taste and price. That being said, I feel that Wasabi has really found the correct balance in their menu. The atmosphere is wonderful and has a very urban/eclectic feel. On Thursdays they offer a live jazz night which is a nice way that the restaurant helps display local talent. I started out with an appetizer called seaweed salad. The name may deter some potential diners, but the salad is absolutely decadent. It is light and tasty - the perfect appetizer. Then, I ordered a traditional california roll and a vegetarian futomaki roll for my main course. The california roll was delicious as expected, and the futomaki roll was quite scrumptious as well. I also tried a bit of my friends fried rice. The fried rice was literally the best fried rice that I have ever had. When I got back, I will definitely be ordering myself an order of fried rice. Another neat thing that I love about Wasabi is that every weekday from 5pm-6pm they offer a happy hour special where a numerous variety of rolls and appetizers are half price. My friends and I often go in specifically for the happy hour special - you can't beat $3 and $4 rolls! Wasabi is a great, all-around restaurant

Good sushi. It is pricey, but hard to find fresh sushi around here so it's to be expected. The pieces can sometimes be lukewarm though which is not what I was used to in the NW. I like the unique rolls like the Playboy. Will definitely be back!

Wasabi still has good sushi, which my dining partners enjoyed. Unfortunately, for John H., certain other aspects of the experience were less than stellar for me. The symbol designating "gluten free or can be made gluten free" has disappeared from the sushi ordering menu, which meant extra time asking questions and getting answers. Why, in the name of Mizuchi, would a sushi place remove gluten-free notation from its menu? Don't they know all the celiacs and their friends rely on Wasabi as one of the more celiac-friendly dining establishments in this community? Well, without the gluten-free notation, and despite the server's assurances, the resulting order came back five minutes later with the server explanation that virtually everything she THOUGHT could be prepared gluten free, was, in fact, NOT available gluten free. Starting over, my patient and happy dining companions discussed their choices again. Our order was placed, but now about five tables behind prior position. So glad we started with wine, and so glad my house salad arrived after about 30 minutes, because it was 40+ minutes into this visit that my entree appeared. I had ordered spicy shrimp, but spicy chicken was placed in front of me. Now I had a choice: I could explain that this was not what I ordered, and wait another half hour, or I could just settle. I settled. But not happily. Still, I was better off than my dining companions, whose beautiful sushi serving platter was delivered, but without plates or gluten-free soy sauce. Nearly an hour to get these items on the table, but only then did the search begin. I say "search," because when the plates were placed before them, the server explained the GF soy sauce was hiding. Eventually, it was found (tip: ask your server to look in the refrigerator). I looked around, wondering if there's something wrong with me, or something wrong with Wasabi. I saw four busy sushi chefs, which looked about right. I saw one or two others working back in the kitchen. I saw several servers running to and fro, and one hostess, trying help out, but rather timidly. These folks looked like they needed a leader to help them work together effectively and efficiently. But I may just be fantasizing, as I often do, when, at the end of a long week, and waiting too long for food, I enter the world of hunger-induced hallucination.

I've been to a few STL Wasabi's. The T&C location is my favorite sushi joint in town! So naturally, I was a little disappointed with this location. They made a couple typical sushi mistakes: too much rice and too much extra crunch and sauces. The veggie tempura wasn't even cooked. My sweet potato was crunchy. I think it's best to stick to the other locations for local area Wasabi's.

Best Sushi place in town! Fresh and delicious always! Very friendly staff!

Wasabi is an above average sushi place and I do enjoy going there. The prices are a little bit on the high side but at least everything that I have ever had there has always been very fresh which I think is very important in the sushi market so I didn't really mind paying a little more if I know its going to be good and fresh. The service is always been great every time that I have been there and a nice thing about this place is that Global Brew is right upstairs from it so if you want to have a beer after dinner or even take your dinner upstairs and eat it at Global Brew you can.

I wish the people that have left this place 3+ stars had been to a real sushi restaurant, with fresh fish... this place was pretty bad, maybe its the fact that I've been in SoCal for the last 5 years and had the best Sushi in the US, or maybe its the fact that this fish just tasted gross and frozen.. I would never go back here... the service was ok, but the food was bad... I understand this is the only sushi restaurant within edwardsville... but seriously it needs to get fresh fish.. It was highly overpriced as well.. for $3, you get 2-3 pieces of fish out west.. here you only get one... I was ub3r disappointed in this place...

I have been to MANY sushi places in my day, and this place just does not measure up. I wasn't expecting much with it being in Edwardsville but some friends and I decided to give it a try anyway. The atmosphere is OK. The host was very friendly, the server was horrid. She seemed very annoyed that she had to be at work. Upon being seated we were given one menu to share. Ordered drinks to have them forgotten. I started off with miso soup which should be pretty easy. I think someone poured a salt shaker in this batch - unbearably salty (my companions agreed). Seaweed salad was also a bit salty. I decided to order a combination with sashimi, nigiri, and maki in order to try a bit of everything. The maki was very lose, and fell apart as you tried to pick it up with chopsticks. That's another thing- I had to ask for chopsticks... really? If anything you should have to ask for a fork!! The flavor was OK, the sushi rice was very sweet. The sashimi was decent but you had the impression it was not that fresh. With the nigiri, again the rice just fell apart and was way too sweet again, fish not so fresh. For the price I want decent sushi. I am disappointed. The staff needs lessons on effective service, and manners. I wouldn't recommend this. The only redeeming quality is that Global Brew is upstairs.

I have mixed reviews when it comes to Wasabi. I originally was going there because I wanted to try takuyaki after seeing in on Anthony Bourdain, but they said they didn't have it anymore. Therefore, I just went for the ole reliable and had sushi. Their lunch deals are pretty good. Of course, you don't get a large choice of sushi. But for $9.99, you can get a spicy tuna roll and some shrimp tempura. Overall it is a good deal. I go here quite often and usually get the same thing. The reason I get the same thing is because I am not big on their other stuff. Just like some of the others have said, the sushi can fall apart before you get it in your mouth. I don't find this problem with the spicy tuna roll. But when I ordered the Dragon Roll a few weeks ago, it was nearly impossible to eat and not enjoyable whatsoever. For a sushi place, the prices are decent for sushi. They do have a good selection on their menu. Most of their starters are fantastic, but expensive for what you get. As far as their sushi, it is hit or miss. That isn't good when you are primarily a sushi place. Still, it is worth it every now and then to go there.

Rare are the times when I drop a hundred bucks on dinner for the family and we leave the place entirely pissed-off and dissatisfied. Unfortunately, that was exactly the case at this Wasabi location two days ago. Why 2-stars then? 1. I ordered directly from the sushi chef and followed his instructions to tell the waitress that I had already ordered only to have her assume I "meant" to order something different and she delivered that instead of the chef's selections of the best stuff he had that day. 2. We ordered appetizers, soups, salads, sushi, and entrees - all of which arrived at our table at the exact same time. 3. Some of what we ordered never arrived. 4. Three of the five orders were incorrectly prepared. 5. Some of the sushi just wasn't that good. I love sushi. I've eaten sushi all over the world. I've even eaten at other Wasabi locations in the St. Louis area and had far better experiences. This was a 1-star experience with 3-star food...hence the 2-star rating. Sorry, but I'll stick to your Washington St. location in the future.

The inner termoil I faced when deciding to give this place a three or a four was tough. Do I love their sushi? Yes. Do I love the service? Sometimes. The sushi here has a fantastic taste, but their rolls fall apart before you even get the chance to enjoy the flavor. I tend to order the same two rolls everytime I go. The shrimp tempura roll and the spider roll. Both are fantastic, in taste, but the rolls aren't nearly as tight as other sushi bars I have visited. The waiters and waitresses are rude. Simple as that. There are a couple that are on the friendly end of the spectrum, but more often than not they act as if they don't wish to be interacting with you at all. The environment is nice and clean, but the overall quality leaves something to be desired. I do frequent here because of the good taste, but I always leave feeling a bit cheated.
