I was just in here a few days ago for a friend's birthday. I must say, it is a very clean-looking restaurant... good upkeep. Definitely NOT a taco stand like some others I've been to. We came in sort of late, so this may not stack up to the average experience, but we got our chips and salsa promptly, and the chips were hot. I couldn't decide what I wanted, so the waiter came back about 5 minutes later with fresh chips and salsa. Sweet. I ordered the $6.99 taco-burrito-enchilada combo. It was sooo good and pretty filling. I probably could have ordered chicken instead of beef but the beef had good flavor, the taco wasn't all lettuce, and the burrito and enchiladas weren't ridiculously big. I felt like it was a good buy for the price, especially not being a fast food place and eating on a super-strict budget. I'm not from Danville, and the only other other place I've eaten at in the city is actually La Potosina (my review seems to have disappeared from Yelp), but I like El Toro about equally. That is meant as a compliment. I think it would be best said as I wouldn't be "missing out" by going to one over the other. Both have large menus and their own specials and specialties. Good job, guys. I'm a fan.

This is an average Mexican restaurant, bordering on American Mexican for a decent price. As restaurants go in this area a pretty good bet for good food at a good price. Here are the details of my review: This review is based on lunch only Location: I guess it is in an OK location. It'd be hard to walk here from many places, but it is on the main drive into town and right near the freeway. Rating: 3 Stars Outside Appearance: Appearance is average. It looks like it used to be something else, but it isn't awful to look at. It's in the middle of a giant parking lot with little landscaping, but doesn't look awful. The restaurant does have a small patio on the side which is nice. Rating: 3 Stars Inside Appearance: Nothing special, but it is clean and well maintained. Not a place for a romantic dinner, but not a greasy spoon either. Rating: 2 Stars Food Quality: Decent, as I said above. Not terribly greasy and portions are a good size. Not too big, not too small. I wish there were more veggies in the food and less cheese and sauce. The flavor was pretty tame, should have a little more kick and be a little more interesting. Really nice chips accompany the meal but the salsa has zero kick. Fortunately there is hot-sauce to go along with it so you can spice it up. Rating: 3 Stars Authenticity: Not very authentic in my mind. Although there was a refreshing lack of orange cheese (I didn't see any anyway) the cheese was jack cheese, which is still as American as apple pie and giant SUVs. Additionally there was a lot of lettuce and the food was quite bland. One of the things I love about authentic Mexican are the flavorful marinades used on the meat. You won't find that here. Plus there were pre-formed hard shell taco shells and I think the soft tacos used 12-14" flour tortillas. So should one skip this place? No, just don't expect it to be authentic. If you want a little more authentic go down the street to La Potosina. Rating: 1 Star Value: Best rating here. It's a good value. ~$10 per person. I'd like to come in the evening to try it out and taste the margaritas. Rating: 4 Stars Total Stars: 16 Categories: 6 Overall Rating: 2.67 rounded up to 3.

I took some clients here for lunch as recommended by some other clients! Our waitress was so friendly. We made our decisions and ordered. We started with the queso and it went over well. The salsa was also good. I ordered the Fajita Quesadilla with chicken and it was a huge portion. They didn't have it in a lunch portion. It was chock full of veggies and chicken. Our drinks were refilled quickly and she asked how we wanted the check, separate or together. She brought it to our table on a little tray, which would leave you to think she was coming back to get it, but we deduced you had to bring it up to the register to pay. I'm pretty loyal when it comes to my choice of Mexican restaurants, even if this is in another state, it did not beat my first true love.

This place is pretty average. The waiter was friendly and the interior was clean. We were promptly greeted and received warm chips and salsa. We ordered an appetizer of guacamole. It tasted fresh enough, as though it were made with real avocados. Unfortunately it was just enough avocados to hold together the massive quantities of cilantro and other ingredients. The menu was big and prices were reasonable. I ordered the taco - burrito - enchilada combo so that I could try a few things. The taco shell was mostly crispy, and was filled about 2/3 with ground beef and 1/3 cheese. The burrito was a flour tortilla filled with ground beef and nothing else. The ground beef mixture used in the taco and burrito was super bland, so bland that I will never order a ground beef item again bland. I specifically requested a cheese enchilada, thus my enchilada was filled with cheese. Both the burrito and enchilada had ranchero sauce on top, nothing special. My son ordered a beef quesadilla and there was barely any cheese inside at all, it was all beef. If it had been served to me I would have sent it back, unfortunately I didn't notice until my son had eaten half of it. My husband said he enjoyed his burrito meal. Overall, this was place was average. I will try someplace else next time I'm in the mood for Mexican. And when I return here I will definitely order different menu items, but I would return.

Surprised - who would expect this when traveling to Danville IL. Chips were hot (though I had to ask for more bowls of the flavorful salsa - double dipping sucks) and service was fast. The Alambre (steak, peppers, bacon, cheese, and onions) served with tortillas was not exactly like we had living in Mexico but one of the better ones we have had in a while in the US. Only real downer were the margaritas which were clearly made from a mix and not from hand. Also, the queso fundido was made with cheese sause not real cheese - though it tasted great with the chorizo and the manager told us what to expect (in spanish) before we ordered. Net, if you are looking for something not from a chain, try this and you won't be disappointed.

Food very good and has a variety of lunch specials. Salsa is very good and staff was constantly filling my drink.

You're not going to head here for the decor, but the food at El Toro is legitimately good. The tortilla chips are always fresh, and they have a very good garlicky salsa--and a smoky hot salsa is available upon request. I particularly enjoy the carnitas and the carne asada tacos. But, honestly, I have yet to order anything on the menu that I didn't enjoy. And, as an added bonus, there are a couple of Mexican beers on tap. The first time I ate lunch here the food came out so fast that I thought there must be a radio connection between the waiter and the kitchen. My dad has pointed out that every staff member in the place seems to be running all the time. Needless to say that the service is prompt, if a little doting. But in spite of that this is an amazingly relaxing dining experience. And a tasty one too!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
