After driving past the large signs advertising Cinco de Mayo specials at Fuego Cantina leading up to the holiday, I had my mind made up that I wanted to try their $1 tacos since I had never been to the restaurant before (I figured if they sucked, I wouldn't have wasted much money... a good way to try out the restaurant!) Since I knew the restaurant would be busier than usual, I tried calling several times to place a to-go order. The phone was disconnected, so I decided to just drive over. When I arrived at the restaurant, it was busy, but a majority of the tables were finished eating and the tables were being cleared. No one greeted me when I walked in- I stood around awkwardly in their tiny entrance area waiting for one of the several employees to acknowledge my presence. No one did, so I walked over to the bar area. I flagged down the owner/manager (not quite sure what his role was, but he seemed to be in charge). I asked if I could place a to-go order, and his response was "oh, we are really busy, I'd have to check if our kitchen can even do a to-go order right now." I said ok, and asked if he could please check, since I had tried calling before I drove over and the phone wasn't working. He said he took the phone off the hook so people couldn't call while they were busy- what terrible customer service! He then slowly made his way back to the kitchen to see if they were busy, but not before walking around chatting it up with customers, making me wait even longer just to see if I could even place an order! I should have walked out at that point and gave my money to a more deserving restaurant, but for some reason I figured that since I had already been waiting around there for so long, I might as well just stay. Mexican food is quick to cook, and most of the tables had already finished their food, so I didnt think it would take very long. By the time I was finally able to place my to-go order, they had run out of beef tacos, and only had chicken tacos left for the $1 special. I overheard a waitress telling a customer that the kitchen "wasn't making fish tacos today" either, which is pretty ridiculous considering it's on their menu. The owner/manager guy said he "thought today was going to be like a regular night," which shows a total lack of common sense, considering it's the only mexican restaurant in at least a 1 mile radius, and it's CINCO DE MAYO for gosh sakes! Order enough food and have enough kitchen staff, don't be cheap and under order/under staff, since it clearly creates disappointed customers and lost future business, probably more of a business loss than having an extra cook and enough food in stock. Once I FINALLY got my food (well over a 20 minute wait after I finally got to place my order), I ran to my car and brought it to my parents house for Cinco de Mayo dinner. My dad was expecting beef tacos, so he was pretty disappointed that all I could get was chicken, but my mom and I thought the tacos were surprisingly decent (I was expecting the worst considering how negative my experience was in the restaurant). The salsa was tasty too, which is the only reason why I am giving the restaurant 2 stars. The cheese dip was alright, kind of bland and it wasn't melted all the way so it was basically a brick of cheese in a cup, but I am a major cheese fan so I still ate most of it (and the rest is in my fridge for a snack tomorrow). It would have been better with some jalapenos diced up for some extra spice! Overall, my experience was more negative than positive, and I do not have plans to return to the restaurant anytime soon. I get that it was Cinco de Mayo, but it shows a lack of business sense to not anticipate the crowds and adjust the staffing and food ordering to accommodate that. I grew up in Brookfield, and I have seen many different restaurants come in and out of that location throughout the years, and I fear that this restaurant will see the same fate as all of the others if they do not improve their customer service. The food may be tasty, but without impressive customer service, they have absolutely nothing.

Well I am updating my review because it deserves 5 fucking stars. Thursday night is epically dangerous. That's right sir or madam, $4 Margaritas which are stiff like me after a workout. Not only that but $5 steak nachos. To hell with a $5 shake, I want them nachos!! Plate is massive. Pete is a gentleman and a stand up fella. He is passionate and will explain everything about the place. I also had the chicken burrito. Not greasy like El Faro, pure protein. Clean, Clean and clean, the entire place is spotless.

A friend and I came here early afternoon on Tuesday. I wanted to like it. We sat at the bar, and the server was mopping up. Found out it flooded from a quick, heavy rain. The one washroom was out of commission, too.... we found out after 2 beers. I asked the difference between a burrito and a burrito suprema. Found out the burrito suprema is 2 small burritos, no rice or beans on the side. The burrito is one larger one, cut in half, also no rice and beans (they are extra). Had the regular burrito, steak. There was hardy any meat on it, some beans in it, some tomato, and lots of lettuce. The 2 folded ends were all tortilla folds. Not much flavor, not much food. The beans and rice were ok. I also had them roast an jalapeño. ..which was the best part of the meal. The chips were heated store bought, the salsa was decent. We were the only ones in the place. The server was a beautiful young lady with a great smile, very pleasant and friendly. We walked a couple of doors down to the Sanctuary, to use the washroom and I wish we had chosen to begin with. Some regulars there recommended the food at Sanctuary over Fuego.. Stayed for a beer or two at Sanctuary and had a better time.

Great place for lunch, family dinners, date nights and parties...Awesome tequila selection to put your Margaritas on point (#1 in my book) I love the Carnitas on Taco Tuesday

We stumbled upon this place after going to the zoo. We knew there was an issue when the waitress asked what we wanted to order and never gave us a menu in the first place. The place was not busy at all with two other couples there. The food was bland, tasteless. As someone mentioned the chips and salsa were store brought, but maybe a year ago as store bought chips are much better. My friend ordered a steak meal and he could not finish it as it was tough and rubbery. They took the item off our bill, offered another meal, but he had enough based on everyone else's food. Cannot believe this place is in business, stay away.

Slowly liking it more. I've had problems in the past with this place but my son likes it there and they have great tacos and friendly staff

Wow- I guess service reallly depends on the staff. Got a cosmo- the color was cloudy drank. They replaced it- tasted worse. The server, Jennifer cam e over 8 times to see how my meal was,. I know this trick- I read imgur. The food was tasteless and the bill $26 for a fajita and cosmo. never again. wish I could retract my first rating.

I love Mexican food. I want to love this place. Really want to love it. It's just not good. We ordered delivery this time. I got a torta. The boyfriend got a steak quesadilla. And we got an appetizer of guacamole. The torta had no flavor. Very little meat. The quesadilla tasted ok but they didn't include sour cream which i thought was weird. The guac was on point. And they did give us some salsa and chips which is a nice touch. There's nothing special about Fuego and that's really disappointing.

Let's start off with saying the tables are dirty. The menus where sticky. Ordered the 8oz ny steak 5min later guy comes out of the kitchen and says we don't carry that. I have carnie. I said fine I would like it medium rare. It was so chewy and rubbery.

There are four things that always standout: great service, good food, poor service and terrible food. This place has the first two, great service and good food! We were there celebrating a friend's birthday. The service was very attentive and catered to our needs. The food was great! Would definitely come back again!

Good local, family owned place. Having grown up about 3 blocks from where the restaurant is, I've seen probably 7 or so businesses come and go in the very location of Fuego Cantina. This place is solid and I hope it sticks around. I got back into the burbs to visit my parents at 3 pm on a Friday, and I was starving. With my parents' fridge full of gluten free food, I decided to walk into town and go into the first place I saw. Luckily I love Mexican food. The menu is typical mexican, with entrees ranging in price from 10 to 20 dollars, most on the lower end of that spectrum. I got the enchilada sumpreme, which comes with four medium sized enchiladas of different kinds: chicken, beef, cheese, beans. I was so hungry I cleared my plate in about 10 minutes. Delish. Overall thoughts: nice staff, family run place, good service, good food, and fast service. If you live in the Brookfield area it is worth checking out.

We just moved to Brookfield so we walked downtown to find a place to eat. We have an 8 month old and so we were looking for kid friendly. This was the place for that! We walked up to the door and a server met us outside and offered us to come in but we opted to sit outside. They happily accommodated us. Service was pretty fast and extremely friendly. Especially to our baby. They removed a chair so the stroller would fit. Servers and bussers would come outside just to see and talk to the baby. It may have been overkill but when you have been treated badly at other establishments just for having offspring, you welcome the positive attention. Chips and salsa were good. Our dishes were ok, everything tasted fresh and they were heavy on the cilantro which I love. A decent sangria. This will be our go-to place from now on.

I thought the food here was very good. Good margaritas. Nice atmosphere. I tried 3 different salsas...regular, verde and hot. All three were excellent with the hot having a citrus flavor. The guacamole was extremely good. The steak taco was ok but the carnitas taco was better. Service was a little slow but there was only one server.

Im giving this place a little lee-way here. They seem kinda short staffed and a new business in the area. They don't really do a good job of answering the phone.lol However, This place served me one of the cleanest tastiest burritos I have ever had! The chef came out personally to ask me about my order. very friendly real nice guy. I am very picky when it comes to mexican food. I will definitely be back!

Been there a few time now - great beer variety, everything I've tried is amazing, great atmosphere - We had the owner (super nice guy) cater a group event for us too, AWESOME!!!

the food was bad and it took forever. the quesadillas had some sort of cheese sauce instead of quesadilla cheese which was not great. this server was slow and made mistakes even though we were the only people in there. the salsa was bland and the chips were store bought. I recommend going to the sanctuary if you're in that area as the food is much better

Good selection of beers. I asked for a spicier sauce they made it - and it was good ! Good local place '

I work in the area and we love getting food from here for lunch. The white queso dip is awesome, especially with chicken or beef in it. The salsa is phenomenal, I've eaten just that and chips for lunch. The quesadillas are yummy, the guac is pretty good, and we also like the appetizer combo, which comes with a bunch of the above yummyness. The beer selection is pretty cool, they have two of my favorites, 5 Lizard and 5 Vulture. I'm so glad this place is super close to work with delicious food and great service. Shannon is one of the nicest waitresses.

Tasty (nothing insane, but solid, tasty Mexican food), and friendly service. They've got great margaritas, and a nice little outdoor patio. A nice addition to the neighborhood!

Unfortunately the food here is incredibly disappointing. Came here with a couple people for take out. Ordered the chicken taco salad. The woman that took our order was really very nice so one star for that. The taco salad wasn't good at all. It was mostly chicken with very little lettuce, too much sour cream, hardly any pico or guac. Our server also gave us a bag of chips and salsa for free which was nice. Star for that. But it was the most disgusting salsa I've ever had. It tasted like a can of tomato sauce, tomato paste and poorly seasoned. It was like it was puréed. Also the way the food was packaged to go wasn't good. The short half block we walked to eat, things were already leaking everywhere. Whoever is back in the kitchen is either lazy or has no idea what authentic Mexican food is. This place will never make it unless there's an overhaul of the menu.

Rice was hard and hurt to bite. Fajitas were reallllyyyy good but no side of sour cream, waitress didn't ask if we wanted another drink. Guacamole was really good. Rice was cold and flavorless as well as the beans

Great new place!! I have been there three times and every time the food is really good. The cheese dip with chorizo is really good! The actual restaurant is very small, so it can be crapped during busy times. Can't wait to go back!

Our this time dining there. .tthis time. .Don't do the sidewalk cafe. Service slower. When the plate came. They served only one plate. How could I eat as my date waited. . They offered to buy the meals.. but even after that, her plate didn't arrive. But I can't eat free food. . I wonder what surprises are in store. . We left despite being offered free food.

It was a pretty painful experience. Food didn't taste like anything. Drinks were made in hot glasses. Ever have a warm margarita before? Way over priced. There are so many Mexican choices in the area. First impressions are everything, and to succeed in an area with as many options as there are, the food and service need to be exceptional. Well, it was exceptionally bad.. Sorry

Smallest torta, smallest burrito, very little steak in both, white American cheese in the burrito and torta, SAY WHAT!!! That's a no no!!! Ugh I had high hopes!!

  • Bill H.

Food was decent. I had Beef Steak ala Mexicana. Beens/rice were very good. Chips and salsa were delicious. Margaritas were sub-par. Not so good. Service was terrible. Our waiter came back to the table several times to confirm what we ordered, and when I asked for the bill, they were puzzled at the register for 10 min or so, with some issues on how to ring things up. Maybe due to new staff? Ambiance is claustrophobic. We were there on a Sat night, but to me the tables just seemed so close together. Not much room for movement. It is a very small facility to begin with.

The food was good and reasonably priced. I had the Fuego Tampiqueno - the steak was tender and delicious! The ambiance and service were excellent. Very family friendly too. I love the new layout of the restaurant - the bar is much larger and more welcoming to sit at. Overall a good experience. I will definitely be back!

Ordered the 2 taco lunch( (chicken) W/ rice+beans special for $5.95. They offer Mexican style onions+cilantro and traditional. but I decided crunchy shells traditional style, lettuce, tomato, cheese. Order is supplied with free chips and salsa. food, nothing to special, salsa was cheap quality not homemade. The taco shells tasted a little stale.

What a disaster! 4 of us went to dinner here last night and there was only 1 other table occupied. It took an hour and a half to finally get our food. I had to ask the waitress each time we needed another drink or water, if we ordered more than 1 thing at a time she would forget and only bring 1 item and lucky if that. I asked for a side of sour cream - 5 times and it never came. Beer was served in a warm glass and the waitress asked if we would like ice for our beer? WHAT??? The real kicker was the food - I am disappointed I did not take a pic! I ordered the pick 2 as the others I was with did. The burrito is a small tortilla shell with a tablespoon of whatever meat you chose and the red sauce on top was marinara... My tiny taco was bigger than the burrito and by tiny I mean the tortilla was for a kids taco meal. All of our food was beyond dry and our plates were a 1000 degrees meaning they were all sitting under heat lamps for an extended period of time. The food did not come out at once so I do not understand why? The cook was in back eating while he was making our food? I do not know what part of the service was the poorest as it was all just a really bad experience!

I was really excited to see a new place open up in our neighborhood for Mexican and had high hopes for it. Unfortunately, I cannot leave a good review. We ordered two simple dishes a combo plate and a quesadilla and waited almost an hour for those! To which the waitress apologized and informed us that their main cook had quit before the busy shift... My husband said the steak was good but his beef was burnt and my quesadilla didn't have the stretchy cheese most Mexican places have but a gooey cheese that resembled something of a white American cheese and was small! I will say the silver lining was the beer (Heffenweizen excellent!). I was hoping to find a diamond in the rough with this place and leave a good review but unfortunately I cannot. Hopefully the next diners experience will be pleasant as we will not be back.

Great Mexican restaurant that is a new addition to my home town. Cheese dip to die for. Great enchiladas, quesadillas and some great drinks to wash it all down with. Don't miss this place.

My wife n I came here because it is within walking distance from the house. Long story short, I'd rather drive to lalos. Why? The chips sucked, no marinated carrots, margaritas are served in a handled beer mug without salt. The cheese appetizer was runny. The entre was mediocre. Ambiance was nice. The owner is personable and very friendly. They just need a more authentic Mexican taste. I would equate going here for Mexican food is like going for Italian food at Pizza Hut.

My wife and I went here on a Saturday night it was relatively empty there was a couple at the bar, and a couple outside. We ordered drinks and an avocado dip. The drink was great because it was over poured, the avocado dip was not. It was as if the onions had gone bad i scooped them out and tried to make the best of it. I ordered the beef steak and my wife the carnitas. took a very long time and when the food got to the table you could tell it had been under a heat lamp or in a convection oven for a while. tortillas took another 5 minutes to come out how do you have no other tables eating and the food takes 30 minutes and another 5 for tortillas seemed as if those were nuked as well very wet and falling apart. The staff was extremely rude they seemed more concerned with checking their phones and flirting with the kitchen than anything else. there is one restroom and i didn't go in on the way there a server was charging her phone in the outlet by the restroom and and ran to check it while i was heading in the door was locked and so i turned around only to get almost knocked over by the girl checking her phone no apologies were offered by her. as we were paying a guy walked in and seemed to be the owner or manager he was loud and the staff seemed to be looking his way for guidance he said hello as we walked out but didn't bother to move so we had to squeeze through. the food was flavorless; the beans were very bland, the rice was just okay, the carnitas were completely dry and the steak was very rubbery. i was going to send the food back but looking in the kitchen i saw very young guys and after working in restaurants over 10 years earlier in my life i knew this would just go downhill if we did that. this seems more like a local hangout for the staff and if they make a few bucks in the process cool. do come if you want a half way decent Margarita. DON'T COME if you want good service or consumable food.

I went there recently and being a local, this is the third different restaurant that's been at this location. Atmosphere and service is good. A full bar is a is a plus. I opened the menu and despite having a good selection of food, I nearly fell over with sticker shock. The salsa had good taste and the food was a bit above average. Bottom line is a burrito, flautas a kids meal, one drink and a soda cost $47 out the door with tip. OUCH! I love mexican food but at that price I don't see myself going there frequently if not ever again. I rated it 3 stars because it is a decent place to eat but the price is a killer.

Reallly good food here! Glad there's a New Mexican restaurant in town that is serving real Mexican food! I ordered a sangria (ok two) and the pick two with a taco and enchilada and everything was absolutely delicious. Only downside is I wish the place was bigger!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
