So..ok...before if we wanted to pay for pricey burger/fry fare we would drive to Peoria and hit up 5Guys..... But Smash burger, price aside has something for everyone (and yes you may get confused going in thru the out door etc., but no worries) :) Kiddos had options and the chicken tenders didnt seem to be fried in old oil -- they were not greasy and yummy... The fries....the rosemary on them it really really nice (my pre-teen's picky taste buds loved them)! The burgers?? they are gourmet and yummy, but my favorite things besides the gargantuan-ly thick shakes are the veggies....flash fried, crispy and delicious!!! True they are a wee bit pricey as well but I loved them! Its not pretentious, you needn't dress up and you can sit outside and nosh as if you were outside a little cafe in california...the restaurant sits back a bit from the road so its not too noisy to sit outside and have a conversation --- and the service really is top notch! Clean inside, clean outside -- OK so they don't have a combo..but its worth a little indulging every now and again! :)

Just not that good, I've decided. My (black bean) burger was a mess. (I knowwww, it's called Smashburger.... I think it throws off the flavors of the toppings!) My fries are not memorable. It was super crowded. I just don't find myself wanting to go back.

The burgers are expensive as hell. I like the place though. The fries are good, but you do gotta have at least a 20 dollar bill to eat here.

We stopped at SmashBurger on way home from Chicago to Alton IL. We originally planned on getting steak and came across this place & I am glad we did. We will for sure come here on our short trips to Chi town. This place had the best burger & love the rosemary and olive oil fries, different & yummy. My mouth waters just talking about this place :) Wish they were closer to our hometown!!

I've been to SB 5 times now and waited to review until I've had multiple trips. I did this as I hold Meatheads in very high regard and didn't want to judge too early. There is absolutely room in B/N for both Smash Burger and Meatheads. If you like the thin, match-stick style fries (think Steak N' Shake), Smash Burger is your place. My preference for fries is the thicker, steak fry style. Meatheads gets the edge in my book, but that's not to say Smash Burger's fries aren't good. Just a preference. Service is friendly, and the burgers are fantastic. On occasion, the delivery time from order to table is a bit sluggish, but you can anticipate when that'll happen (empty tables + long line = lots of new tickets in the kitchen). If anything, they should expand their dining room to accommodate rush times. Lots of corporate folks interpret their half hour lunch literally and would avoid SB because of it. Overall SB is very good. I think Meatheads wins by a nose, but that doesn't mean I'll choose one over the other. I enjoy both.

I really liked my first Smashburger last night. The toppings to choose from are excellent. The meat w is good, buns too. Burger seemed messy, but messy is fine by me. The fries? Just ok...I prefer Meatheads cajun fries. All-in-all, a good experience.

Damn good. We split burgers. Got the windy city burger with smash fries. Burger came on a pretzel bun and had haystack onions, cheese and other stuff. Pretzel bun and onions make the burger! Smash fries are tossed with olive oil, rosemary and garlic. They are excellent. Can really taste the olive oil and rosemary! Other meal bbq, bacon and cheddar burger with fried pickles with ranch. Finished off sharing a chocolate malt shake, ya were hogs but was yummy! All was awesome. Service was awesome. Super clean.

This was my first time at Smash. It probably won't be my last either, but I wasn't blown away. I had the Avocado Club Burger with the Smash Fries. The hamburger meat itself has great flavor, although its a little thinner and less filling than I was hoping for. The avocado was still a little hard too, though given the season, I'm not surprised there. They only gave me two slices, which was a little sparing in my opinion. If someone I was with wanted to go there I'd swing in, but I wouldn't make this place a frequent stop.

The last few times that I have been there the hamburgers are soaked with grease! When told manager, said that they need to drain the grease better. Dairy Queen had better burgers!

I'm not a big fan of their burgers, I dont feel all that well after wards, but I will say that the smash chicken is very very very good. the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I find it a little too expensive for a chicken sandwich if you get fries. it was over $10, they are free to charge whatever they want, but my cost/benifit ratio isnt quiet that high. I do however love it when I get a coupon in the email or something, and that makes it very worth going there. well done.

Had the Baja burger with peppers and quacamole with onions strings. It was OK but Five Guys is better. I had never been to Smashburger before and wanted to try it.

Burger is pure grease. Take one bite and a cup of grease flows out of the bun.

Love these burgers! Real beef! Not an overwhelming menu with a bunch of choices. The fries are delicious. I don't know why this place doesn't get voted best burgers in town because they really are! I would recommend it to anyone!

I had the smash grille chicken sandwich avocado club. It was exceptional. I also had fries and one of their special teas. It was expensive considering it was "fast food". Everything is a la carte, about $6.99 for the sandwich, $2 for a drink, and $2 for fries... Each of our checks were about $12 or so even though we all ordered something different.

An OK setting, burgers are pretty good and.flavorable but not the.top notch that has been raved about. But would recommend if haven't had before.

I was not impressed with my visit to Smashburger. I order the class cheeseburger with smash fries. The Smashburger was a burger, nothing special. I asked for mayo, probably should have put it on the side, because it was pouring out of the sandwich. I had to wipe it off the burger to make it edible. The fries were phenomenal. Great flavor but their tiny size was a bit annoying to eat. I felt like I was grasping at crumbs.

This was our second time going to Smashburger. The food came out super quick, and tasted great! I ordered a Smashburger and it was great. My husband got a bacon cheeseburger and he inhaled it! My daughter got an Oreo shake.. Yum!! The fried pickles were great! The breading was amazing! Can't wait for the next time when we get to come back!

Pretty average. We've been here several times and it's just ok. You get to pick from what seems like endless toppings and cheeses and buns, so everybody ought to find something they like. Chicken, beef, and veggie burgers and salads. The French fries come in several varieties as well. The Spicy Franks Red Hot fries are tasty. Overall though, pretty average cleanliness and friendless. Nothing to really wow you though.

First time, loved the onion straws, shake was great, burger was good as well. Only issue is the price.

Quite nice! Customer service was attentive, the burger (Sin City, with bacon, beef, and an egg!) was relentlessly juicy, with crispy patty edges, and the modernist decor is pleasing. My order came out in fast, but not overly hasty time. The price is fairly average for an upscale burger/chicken joint, but I got more than what I paid for. Eat on!

Cliff's: Very flavorful food, quickly prepared, and friendly employees While recently in Bloomington, I couldn't decide what to eat for dinner. I noticed Smash Burger when shopping at a nearby Binny's, and figured it would be a quick bite. There were few people inside, and my order of a BBQ Bacon burger and "Smash fries" was promptly delivered to my table by a polite waitress. The food was immediately reminiscent of Steak 'n' Shake, and reminded me of spending late nights there in high school, in the 90s. The burger was very flavorful. I ordered pepperjack cheese on it, which went well with the slightly sweet BBQ sauce. The burger had little crispy edges all around, which I love. The fries were little slivers, which were tossed in, I believe, olive oil, rosemary, and garlic. Again, they were packed with flavor and not something readily available at a quick service restaurant that I've recently visited. Would definitely stop at a Smashburger location again.

I love the Smash Fries! So good! The fries are shoestring cut, like Steak and Shake, so a fork is really preferable to them. I've had the burgers and the chicken sandwiches. I really like the buffalo chicken sandwich and the avocado burger.

3 Stars is A-OK and this was my first experience at Smashburger this week. Went there for lunch and looked over the menu. A burger, fries and water will run you just under $10. The portions are not that big and I was still hungry after we had left. For a burger and fries it is a bit pricey for what you get. I had the Avacado Club ($5.99) which came with three smaller quarter of a strip sized pieces of bacon and three avocado slices. I was hoping for more. The smash is their go to but I wasn't a fan. It left the edges burnt and charred to the point that they were tasteless. The rosemary fries ($1.99) are the smaller straw type fries and they have a sweet flavor and can be eaten without ketchup. The regular fries were the same price so might as well. Overall a very average experience but I have been to other burger places that are similar (Five Guys/ Meatheads) and had a similar if not better experience for the same or less cost. I'd go here again but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there.

While there was nothing obviously wrong with the food, there was nothing special about it either. A pretty standard (smallish, actually) burger and decent (but also a fairly small portion) fries. For close to $20, I could've gotten twice as much food of similar quality from a fast food place, or gone to Brewe Ha's and spent $10 on better burgers and the other $10 on booze.

I had excellent service as well as a delicious meal! The guy at the front register was super friendly and helpful and my burger was very good! Highly recommend the "smash fries" - they are crispy but with a touch of garlic, rosemary and olive oil. Will be back soon!

Amazing fries; get the Smashsauce to dip in. Burgers are good, but overall the experience is nothing special. Steak n Shake type joint, but maybe just a bit more upscale (if you can call it that) Similar price.

Pretty expensive but soooo good. The burger was juicy, I mean wet and it was really tasty. I'll be back.

Had the Windy City Chicken sandwich this time & previously had a burger. The sandwiches are oversalted and the chicken is only 1/4" - 3/8" thick or so but still $6.99 without fries. However, the Smash Fries were good and all beers (including Goose Island and Schafly's are $2.99 or $9.99 a bucket (4?). Burgers are similar to Steak n Shake but SNS is better at a lower price.

Ain't gon' lie, Smashburger didn't do it for me. In my opinion, Smashburger is just a slightly worse version of Meatheads. I found the burger to be just ok, and the list of toppings and specialty burgers really isn't anything too outstanding. Smashburger literally IS Meatheads, but with a different name and worse burgers. I will say this, their sweet potato fries are killer. Olive oil, garlic, rosemary... oh man they were good. All in all, I don't really have anything bad to say about Smashburger, but if I'm going to spend $12 on a double-cheeseburger monstrosity, fries, and a drink, I'm going to Meatheads because Smashburger just didn't fill that burger-shaped void in my life.

I'm upset their slogan when they take your order isn't "welcome to smashburger, home of the smashburger, can I take your order". I think they're missing the boat there. But, the food is pretty good though.

Smashburger... - is not greasy like Meatheads. - has better quality ingredients than Steak n Shake - has great buns (it's ok, you can giggle at that) Order of events... - GO LEFT! When you walk in the door go left. - Pick up a menu from the wall and study it while you stand in line. If no line, walk super slow reading with your head down... you know as if you were playing with your smartphone. - Order at the counter, they give you a number stand and bring it to your table. Tips to make this more affordable for 2... Total $17.72 - Each order one burger - Split an order of fries - Share a drink since you get free refills! We ordered... - Husband really enjoyed the Windy City burger on a pretzel roll. These kinds of toppings run the risk of being an inedible mess but Smashburger served it right so kudos to the attention to detail. - I tried the Avocado Club and the bacon was flavorful and crisp without being burned! Avocado was fresh and the slices were just the right size to not fall out of the burger. Multigrain bun was a great compliment. - SmashSweetPotato fries (rosemary, garlic and olive oil). Definitely doing that again. Shout out to the worker who offered to refill the drink for us! I think he might have been bored (too many people working for the size of the crowd) but we still appreciated the service nonetheless. While I prefer a thickburger, if I will go back here the next time I'm craving a burger and fries in town.

Great service from Salina, she checked in with us several times, when she found out our order was partially wrong, she got a refund even though we didn't ask! The veggie frites are a nice change from other burger places. The classic smash was very tasty! I would return here again next time I'm in the area. Shakes are great too.

After a half dozen visits, I've decided I just don't like this place - other than the smashfries. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are not that great of quality and always too salty. Salads are doused in too much dressing.

Today was my first visit. You can tell who has never been there before because they go in and out of the wrong doors. It wasn't just me. The line seemed long from a distance but it was mostly people who were studying the menu board and letting others ahead of them. You may want to read the menu online before you get there because the print is really small and you might not be able to read the descriptions until you're right up at the counter. I ordered the Spicy Baja Black Bean Burger with Pepper jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, spicy chipotle mayo and fresh jalapeños on a spicy chipotle bun minus the jalapeños. I didn't see an option for a combo so I ordered sweet potato fries a la carte plus an Oreo shake. $12 total for 1 person. The shake was brought to the table first. They had a little left over in the shake making cup so they brought that out too with a tall spoon! I thought that was a really nice touch. The burger and fries arrived shortly thereafter. It was a very tasty black bean burger that was smashed flat so that it was about 30% bigger than the bun. The sweet potato fries were enough for 2 reasonable people. The manager walked around and made sure everyone was satisfied. There were employees constantly cleaning the whole time. I really appreciated how clean everything was so that a customer coming in mid day would have the same experience as a customer coming in when they open. I hope they keep it up. I also like that they have a serious vegetarian option. I'll definitely return.

I went to Smash burger for the first time on 9/4/2012 so things were just about brand new. The line was out the door but moved very quick. I would also second the other comment about looking up a menu ahead of time or reaching in the door and grabbing a paper menu to read ahead of your turn at the counter. The staff was very neat and courteous. I ordered the windy city smash and fries with a total bill of $8.76 with tax. I was taken back that there were no combos or any other way to soften the blow of an almost $9 burger and fries with no drink. The description of the burger is as follows from the website: "Layers of melted cheddar cheese, haystack onions, lettuce, tomato and Gulden's® spicy mustard on a pretzel bun." The meat on the burger was quite tasty and the haystack onions along with the cheddar dominated the flavor. The pretzel bun was great and was a very fresh. I was not impressed at the portion of the burger on the bun as it was not close to covering the bun. There was more topping then burger on mine. The restaurant was just about spotless as I would have expected with a new restaurant. There were managers wiping tables and keeping things tidy instead of visiting with customers and managing the various workers on the floor. The music was VERY loud and definitely not fitting the majority of the crowd that was there but maybe the attendance will change and the shiny newness wears off. Personally I thought the experienced was overpriced for what was delivered. I was however impressed by the speed of the wait, delivery of the food, and the cleanliness of the facility.
