Not that impressive. Their seasoned fries tasted like they just had sprinkled oregano on them with a little salt. Had to ask them to switch them out for regular unseasoned fries. The burger was blah, extremely greasy. I think I like the nickname "SplashBurger" as well. Amusing and probably accurate.

Maybe I was expecting more. Maybe I was reading too much into the place. Maybe I'd come back without a Groupon...but I'm really not sure. The place runs about $10-$15 a person for "fast casual" meals depending on what you order. You place your order, and it's brought out to your table. The service was ok. The manager who took my order was stellar! He was pleasant and helpful. The guy who brought my food wasn't super smiley or happy to be there...Plus the only table available was still dirty. I had to wipe it down with a napkin. I had the BBQ Bacon Small Smash: barely there BBQ sauce, an overcooked burger (I like my burgers a little on the rarer end of medium), a slice of bacon cut in half, and some fried onions. I added avocado for a dollar more: 4 puny end slices... I also ordered smash fries which have garlic, rosemary, and olive oil. Again, barely there seasoning. I don't usually like fries, but when they've got good flavor(think Gordon Biersch Garlic Fries of JOY), I'm a fan. Nothing to write home about, and I found myself wishing I had ordered fried pickles. Finally the vanilla shake. It was okay, but I found myself spending half my meal trying to figure out why that flavor was familiar...Oh yeah, it had the taste of a powder shake (like slimfast). Just saying. Maybe I'll give them another chance in the future... But next time, I'll probably go the extra 10 minutes and pay the extra couple of bucks for a Tom & Eddie's burger.

Yum!! The burgers are so fresh and delicious and really satisfy! The highlight though for me is the SmashFries, cooked with rosemary and olive oil, such an unexpected delicious blend of flavors, I haven't seen these fries anywhere else! The prices are decent for the portions you get and the staff is quick and friendly. Love this place!

There's a new burger in town! I was doubtful to try this new establishment on opening day. They were ready! Many different burger options to choose from or customize your own. I saw a man inhaling a pretzel bun burger. Oh well. next time. I had the All American w/ fries. Their Smashfries are cooked w/ olive oil & rosemary. Also had the fried pickles which were pretty good if not a little too overseasoned. They also have Chicken, Dogs, & Salads. Not too many options for my veggie friends. I'll be back soon for a Green River Float!

We had burgers and frys. The burgers were really good, reminded me a litle of 5guys. The frys are good also, similar to steak and shakes, but better. The chili cheese frys are good also.

I drove by this place a bunch of times, researched it online, watched the news stories about it, and I was fired up to finally try it. I had a double big SmashBurger with haystack onions, side of fried pickles, and the fried fresh veggies. The pickles were the best thing I had. The veggies were over cooked and covered in oil, almost inedible. And the burger tasted like they dropped it in salt. I ate a 3rd of it before i threw in the towel. If you're looking to try something new, and aren't a die hard burger eater this is an alright place, but if you really like a quality burger... Head to Five Guys in Naperville. Overall, Not worth the money.... I would however like the fried pickles again.

Large selection of pretty good burgers. The rosemary fries are very good. My husbad was thrilled he could get a beer with his burger

Ok. Seriously Smashburger, did you craft your menu with me in mind? Let me begin by saying, I am a vegetarian. I don't even eat burgers. I still love Smashburger. I got the kids' grilled cheese with fries, a side of fried pickles, a Dr. Pepper on fountain (woo hoo!) and a chocolate malt. All shared with the hubby, so no fat/pregnant lady comments, please. Their malts/shakes are made with Haagen-Dazs. Their fried pickles are served with awesome ranch dressing. Their fries are made with love. Did I mention the Dr. Pepper on fountain? Hubby says his Baja Chicken burger was good, but who cares about the burgers? Get yourself a malt and some fried pickles, leave a happy camper.

I ran into here to grab lunch during my lunch break. I thought the service was decent and the food was tasty. I was happy they have good tasting fries. I had a burger with the pretzel roll and I loved this bun. When I go again I will definitely be repeating the bread selection.

The only Chain Burger worth eating, sorry Five Guys.... Like the Olive Oil Rosemary Fries decent for not being fresh cut. Very juicey flavorful burgers, some nice combinations. They get a plus for having Green River in bottles.

The burgers here are really good. They remind me of a place in Chicago I used to go over 10 years ago called Muskie's. The sides, however, leave much to be desired. The smash fries would be better if the fries themselves weren't so puny and were crispier. Also, the amount of fries you get for $2 is rather sad. I don't think $20 for two burgers and sides was worth it. So while the burgers are indeed very good, I doubt I'd go out of my way to eat here again.

SmashBurger is really good as far as burger chains go. I can't say they are as excellent as many people have raved about but they are good for sure. I had the All American and the Classic burger and I've also had their chicken sandwich. I was a bit let down by their Smashfries. It seemed like it needed more of something. I've had a vanilla and chocolate shake and both were delicious though chocolate was better. I do recommend it if you're in the area but it isn't something I'd drive out of my way for.

After having driven past it more than a few times, we finally stopped here between 6-7PM on a Saturday night. Place was very busy, LOTS of kids, more than we expected, with parents or the "Weekend Dad". It's hard to see how crowded the place is until you're inside, because the booth partitions are so high you can't see how many people are inside by looking in the windows. Pretty noisy. Order taken quickly. Finding a seat was a bit of a struggle, table needed a wipedown. Floor was slippery/greasy feeling. Chocolate shake was good. Burger was unremarkable. Fries were hot and crisp, not greasy, but not anything special. Special grilled cheese; swiss, spinach & mushroom was fine, but I think they grilled the mushrooms separate which made them a bit oily, while the spinach was raw leaves. Not bad, not great, just a sandwich. Chicago style dog was okay, but not a Vienna beef. Maybe peak dinner hour pushes them over capacity, but while they hit some marks well (fast service, attentive staff checking on us, staff really hustling to keep up) they missed some really basic stuff; not bussing the tables fast enough, not keeping up with food on the floors and carpets, not managing the seating well. Seemed like lots of people doing a lot of moving around, and many of them were customers circling the small dining area to find a place to sit. Too many people moving around! I had the misfortune of sitting in a booth near the kitchen, and when the doors would open I could see fallen fries and crumbs on the floor in there. They need one person to manage the floors and the tables when it's busy. Just felt dirty in there, and with all those kids, GERMY. Probably will not be back. Expensive, messy, and not all that.

  • Julie P.

Great prices for a step above a fast food joint. Decent selection of burgers and chicken sandwiches. The restaurant was messy, floors were really dirty. Food was average...nothing to be excited about.

Went to see what it was all about. Take a pass. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, Rosemary & olive oil fries and an iced tea. The first clue it was going to be poor was the tea was not even brewed. Reminded me of the episode of the 3 Stooges when they made chicken soup. Were teabags even involved? The fries came...no different from those in a typical bar.....where was the Rosemary & garlic. But the worst was the sandwich. Notebook paper is thicker than that piece of chicken was!! Save your money....Wendy's, Old Town Pub, even Burger King has better.

I went there during a weekday at about noon and a line was nonexistent. After my order was taken my food came to me super fast. I ordered a spicy baja with a fried egg, sweet potato fries, and a drink. I think spending $12 for fast food was quite expensive and that is one reason why I didn't give five stars. I also did not give a perfect five because I felt that the restaurant was somewhat messy even for the amount of workers standing around and socializing. The floors seemed to be greasy. I thought my burger was unique and delicious. The fries were also different, but very good. I thought the amount of fries they gave you was little compared to the price they charge. The service was good and very friendly.

I have been here twice. The first time I attended a yelp event and tried most everything on the menu. Second time I went with my wife because she heard me talk about the yelp event. The burgers were good and had a nice variety that you could find something you like. The fries were excellent as were the fried pickles. Their milkshakes and malts are really really good. Their salads are big and well done. I got a chicken sandwich when I went with my wife and really enjoyed it. Overall good food at a price that won't break your wallet.

  • Tom S.

Burger is good not great and the prices are high....the BIG deciding factor for me is always the fries, if a place has bad fries I won't come back...SamshBurgers fries SUCK!

  • Ke R.

Nice prices, good variety, interesting burgers and great onion straws. The lines can be long, but it's definitely worth the wait. the service is good ( not great), but the attitude was excellent. There was a small problem with what we ordered, and the staff took care of it without complaint or comment, bringing out the right item in record time with apologies. Prices are slightly lower than the other premium burger places on Randall, so it's a great option when you want a good burger without having to take out a second mortgage. I loved the pretzel roll on my burger, and the onion straws are as addictive as heroin. Only drawback is that it's difficult to get into and out of the restaurant because of the access from Fabyan Parkway - but ti's worth the effort. Yummy, yummy.

With more people opening up gourmet burger joints, this is one of the better ones. I really enjoy their service and a bit of that classic meets modern feel. Simple menu, but they do a very good job of it. Watch out for the milk shake! Very delicious but very large portions. Good value for good food. Will return.

    (4)
  • Me P.

Love their food, they have the best milk shakes. Their fries are too salty so ask for them to go easy on the salt. When it comes to dogs, burgers, and shakes, they are much better than portillos

  • DAN B.

I know its called SmashBurger so you can expect that its going to be greasy, but there is a point where if the whole bun is saturated that you can't really call it food anymore. I am by no means a health nut, but this place is just gross.

Best burger in the area, for a fast food venue.

Fantastic! Went from a poor first impression by the long wait and little room for it. The entrance is very narrow and I felt a little like one of the cows waiting to become the food I would eventually eat. However, once I got my order taken [which was faster than it felt] I was able to watch as they cooked my order and expedited it within ~8 minutes, which is very quick given they were in the 6:30-7 rush. The staff was friendly and when I got home, the food was wonderful! By far the best burger I've had in a while. I got the Spicy Baja [accented with fresh jalapenos, awesome avocado, chipotle mayo and monty jack cheese] and my wife got the classic 1/3 lb smashburger, plus we split the smashfries and fried pickles. Everything was great! The fried pickles were the best I've had since our honeymoon in Memphis. Definitely will go back, great to have a good burger joint in Batavia!!

Like I said in a previous review, I've been to all of the burger places in the area. I would say that Smashburger is my second choice. I think the food choices are original and the sides are excellent. They add Rosemary and olive oil to the smashfries and sweet potato fries, so if you don't like that just ask for them without it. The burger is a bit thin aka smashed, but good. The place is clean and has a nice atmosphere with plenty of booths. Smashburger is a little pricey, but not as bad as Tom and Eddies. We've been here twice and plan to go back again!

The burgers are good enough and my husband enjoyed the rosemary seasoned fries but all in all, nothing to write home about.......no atmosphere at all.

I tried the local SMashburger tonight, and had a mixed experience. The restaurant is clean and bright, with a small outdoor dining area with A beautiful view of the Fabyan Parkway/Randall Rd. Intersection. We ate in. As all the booths were occupied, and the remaining seating was rather subpar, I chose to politely ask one of the three idle employees to please clean up one of the window booths that had been vacated. An employee complied, after telling us that non window booths were available in the interior of the dining area. I told him we liked the window. On to the food. They have a nice selection of burgers with different toppings, as well as varied sides. We tried the windy city burger and the regular smash burger. Both were good, but not amazing. For sides we had the sweet potato fries and the onion stack. Neither were very good. The fries did not have a sweet potato flavor, and were overpowered by the spices. The onion stack was mAinly cold, greasy fried batter, with a little strand of onion inside. As the burgers were good, way better than a fast food place, I give it three stars. The sides are forgettable.

Made my first visit today and Smashburger gets 4 stars. Menu looks very good - lots of options and they offer a "build it yourself" option. Our vist was around 1:30pm on a Wed afternoon and every table was filled which is a good sign that word of mouth is making this restaurant a must place to visit. They offer 1/3 or 1/2 pound burgers. I ordered the classic egg bun with a 1/2 pound burger, pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles and a side order of french fies with sea salt. The burger was very great - only disappoinment was with the bacon. It was terrible...full of fat and very chewy. Bacon is supposed to be crispy.....they need to work on that issue so hopefully it gets corrected as I will tell them to cook it crispy next time. Another nice option was that they offer three different variations of fresh brewed iced tea (green tea, regular black & red tea). Unlike most burger places that push the regualr fountain drinks loaded with sugar....it was a very nice treat to have fresh brewed tea (the red tea with lemon & pomengrate was excellent). Overall will definitely go back as they would have received 5 stars if the bacon had less fat and was crispy.

Very disappointed. I was warned that this place was like an expensive Steak and Shake. That is somewhat true, but Steak and Shake is better! My burger was swimming in a sea of grease. The entire burger was dripping in grease. The bun was soaked and the meat was tasteless. They also don't offer any turkey or veggie burgers.Really not good.

Unique place to spice up a burger with toppings like a fried egg. Other than that I would summarize the negative as crowded, small eating area, noisy, overpriced and service was ok. I have been to better burger joints across the country. I hope it can improve because of its uniqueness to burger toppings but can't give it any additional stars at this time.

  • Andy G.

Continuing on with my burger kick, I highly recommend the burgers at this establishment. They are really juicy, but I don't think they have quite as much flavor as a Five Guy burger. I gave them four stars though because I love the extensive choice of toppings available, and the extensive level of customization available. I recommend the smash sauce. It is reminiscent of mayo, but has a lot of other great stuff in it. For those of you who are watching carbs, grilled veggies are available instead of fries and they are really good. Considering that this is fast food, I think it is pricey. Twelve dollars and change for a burger, side, and coke is expensive. It is well worth it though on occasion.

Great burger! Love the smash sauce..( a seasoned mayo/ mustard combo) Stopped in after a rained out game and were pleasantly surprised. The smash fries have a garlic seasoning that the kids loved although plain fries are available.

We got here before the line got long. Great burgers, unique toppings, the fries with garlic and Rosemary were delicious. I liked that they brought your order to your table. Will be back to try one of their salads, those looked really good. It was hard to decide what to order.

  • Christine M.

SmashBurger was a hit with us! Yummy, juicy burgers. The fried pickles are some of the best we've ever had. Regular french fries (sea salt only) were not so great--McDonald's has them beat. The "help" could be a lot more attentive to the customers (first timers can find the system a little confusing). Fountain drink area was quite messy today. Definitely come with some time on your hands and gloves...line was out the door (bitter cold today). We tried to come at an "off" time...and we still waited about 20-25 minutes in line just to place our order, then 15-20 minutes to get the order in our hands. Considering this establishment is still VERY NEW...would have been nice to see an owner working the crowd. Overall...the burgers are what are important since it's in the name...and they were GREAT!

Out with the family and thought we'd see if Smashburger measures up-unfortunately not. Before I get into why Smashburger failed to impress, I will talk about the good things... they have an extensive menu with some interesting items such as sweet potato fries, garlic-rosemary fries, good burger combinations, etc. The bummer is that they messed up my order. Not such a big deal, just forgot the grilled onions but rather than replace the item, they offered to make some grilled onions and put them in a cup for me. My burger and fries were already cold so I opted to go without. Not great customer service for a business in a very competitive market space. In addition, there were a lot of tables that were a mess despite the fact that the restaurant looked well-staffed. In all the food was 'eh' at best. If you are looking for a great burger in the Saint Charles, Geneva, Batavia area, i'd check out the Geneva Ale House, the Tap House or Five Guys.

We enjoined our visit at this place. I like the way they prepare the chicken (thin cut) for the burgers. My wife also enjoined her beef burger. The presentation of the food is also above average for such type of places This was our first visit and we left pleased

Went back a week ago and ordered takeout. Fries were real greasy. My daughters chicken sandwich actually was soggy and greasy. My burger was good as usual. Yet, milk shakes were not filled and very milky. Tasted like drinking flavored milk and no ice cream was added. 4 stars only because service was still great, my burger was good, yet greasy fries, so greasy that oil covered our entire hand that you needed paper towels as napkins did not do the job. 4 stars also because of all the times I visited and that is many many times, it has always been great.

  • Bryan M.

Visited this place for the first time. The restaurant was nice and clean. Service was also good. The burger is decent, but not any better than Five Guys or Culvers. I spent the extra buck and paid $3 for a large fry. I was shocked at the lack of fries for $3. I will never fall for that one again. The salads are decent, as decent as a salad can get:) For what I paid for a regular no frills burger and large fries, $8, I would much rather spend a few bucks more and get a great meal at Red Robin with unlimited steak fries instead of skinny shoestring fries. So, I will not go out of my way for another Smashburger.

  • Jen R.

I've been to many Smashburgers across this great state of IL and none that I've encountered have been this lacking in service and food prep. It seems as though everyone there moves at a snail's pace and gives off the air of a professional stoner. The amount of food that you get for the price you pay is laughable. I expect these kind of prices at CHIPOTLE, my goodness. At least with Chipotle I know my meal comes with a free laxative.

I went here tonight but I had to wait 15 minutes in line before staff told me the computers were offline. The staff person said it would be back online soon. After waiting another 15 minutes in line I decided to leave after the staff were unhelpful and rude. I have been going to smash burger for awhile now and their service has been on a downward slope. This was the final straw. I will not be going back again.

This was my first SmashBurger experience, and even though it was a little out of my way, it introduced me to delicious pickle fries and a way to create my own burger! That is what I love the most about the SmashBurger experience. While there's not a lot of seating, the restaurant was not full the night that we visited. It was not a long wait to get our food and we were able to have a good visit. While I wouldn't be in this area most of the time, I would come back!

Had lunch here today -- been a while since I've been in and I was working nearby. Got the Chicken Avocado Club and the veggie fries. Avocado was bad -- black spots, gone to mush, bad. Bacon was undercooked. Veggie fries were supposed to be "flash fried" but instead were soggy with fryer oil. All in all, very disappointing... Too many better options around.

I went there tonight with my boyfriend for dinner, we wanted to try the burger place out. We were very disappointed. He ordered the club burger and it was missing half the ingredients (no avocado, no bacon). We split each of our burgers to try one anothers and his had no taste. He got the bigger burger but it just stuck out of the bun so it didn't make it any better. I got the class bacon cheeseburger. It looked and tasted like a Mcdonalds cheeseburger, and was missing half the ingredients as well. The fries are shoe string and not that great. We got 2 burgers, and 2 fries...our meal was $20. We could have gotten much better quality and tasting food for that. It was awful.

I laughed at the name, Smashburger... who ever thought of that??! Being on a trip to IL from CA, I had never before heard of Smashburger but decided to try it. I ordered the spicy baja burger with rosemary fries. The burger was delish! I enjoyed all of the different flavors of the bun, the chipotle sauce and the jalapeno all blended together in one mouthful. The rosemary fries were good too! I would have enjoyed them even more, had they been fatter and not so crispy! The server there was super friendly, the restaurant was clean; Overall, great lunch!!

I heard this place was supposed to a great gourmet burger place where you can just stop and get a great meal but it was far from that. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. You can't really mess that up but they found a way. My burger was dry and bland. My fries were wet with to much spices. The price was also outrageous and I refuse to eat there.

Just had dinner with the wife there and to was really good. Only could give 4 stars cause I wish the burger was bigger. It still had great flavor. Also got the smash fries. Yumm yumm!! Quick and friendly service. And you can't go wrong cause they have Coke!!!!

My husband, two little boys and I tried Smashburger the other night and were a bit worried because of the hit or miss reviews, but we wanted something fast that wasn't your standard fast food. I'm not sure what the one star reviews are all all about, our burgers were all really good and the smash fries were very good. For a little more than you'd pay for a drive-thru burger you get something much, much better. Several reviewers mention that you can get a much better burger for about the same price elsewhere......so where exactly are you getting these amazing, quickly made to order burgers for $6 or less? Smashburger was fast, tasty and a nice change of pace for quick burgers.

Not impressed ! Burgers very so so. I got onion straws , cold and greasy. They gave me new ones and they were super salty . Staff not very friendly . Over priced . Probably won't come back again

Staff is really friendly. Classic burger "big" is really good. The right amount of crust from the flattop grill. Shoe string fries keep the focus on the burger with the right amount of flavor. Enjoyed my lunch.

Grilled chicken sandwich on a chipotle bun is awesome! I like that you get to create your own! Haystack onions are the best ever! Only downfall is that it's a bit pricy since you order everything separately. They don't have any combo meals.

    (4)
  • Elana C.

Didn't impress me much and probably won't be back. I had the mushroom burger with the smash fries. There are too many above average burger places that are far better then this subpar burger establishment. The customer service was great and friendly and the atmosphere was clean and modern. I would like to stress that the burger wasn't bad... Just wasn't good, my personal opinion.

Not sure what is going on here - went at about 1 pm on a Sunday (9/22) and ordered after relatively no wait in line. Inside dining area was nearly full so went outside. After about 20 or more minutes, we saw several parties turning away from the front door. After about 40 minutes, our food arrived. This was not just our table that took long - it was the entire restaurant. Complete chaos. To top it off, one item was missing from our order. Asked server for the manager to stop by our table, but he/she never did. Food is okay for what it is. Much better off to go to Five Guys for a good, fast burger.

Let me preface this by saying I attended their "soft opening" yesterday. They officially open tomorrow (12/6/10) to the public. It was supposed to be just for friends and families of the employees, but somehow I got in. Score. It was perfect timing to go get some burgers, considering that morning I had my cholesterol test. But anyway... I ordered 2 "create your own" burgers to go...since everything was free, I should have gone all out with extras, but I kept it simple: burgers on a pretzel bun (hell yes!), pepperjack cheese on one, sharp cheddar on the other, and lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, pickles, and "smash sauce" on both. I also got an order of their "smash fries" and sweet potato fries...the total would have been about $15, but since it was their trial run it was all free (my poor graduate student self especially enjoyed that aspect). The burgers: absolutely divine. Perfectly done (I'm terrified of underdone ground meat), but not dry. Both of the cheese selections were good choices, and the smash sauce is delicious...they said it's a combo of mayo, mustard, and lemon with some spices. The burgers are huge too...I ate half last night and had the other half for lunch today. It was still good today too. The "smash fries": they take their regular fries and add rosemary, and I wanna say garlic and lemon. Very good. Sweet potato fries: skinny fries, very good. I only started eating sweet potatoes recently, and this was the first time I tried them in fry form...definitely a winner. Prices: the "create your own" is $4.99 for a regular size ($5.99 for a double burger), with whatever regular toppings you want. You can add bacon, avocado, extra cheese, etc., a la carte. The fries were $1.99 with the purchase of a sandwich, or I think $2.99 without. I like that they have a wide variety of cheese choices and toppings...next time I want to try a blue cheese burger and throw on some bacon (I believe bacon is $1.49 extra...should have tried that last night). They also have several options for their special burgers, if you don't feel like creating your own and want something other people have already deemed delicious. They also have a fair selection of salads, and any burger can be made into a chicken sandwich instead. My dad said it was the best burger he's ever had...for me it was right up there with the black angus burger from Rockit Bar in Chicago, but of course that's a lot more expensive and in Chicago. This definitely is the best I've had in the burbs...it definitely tops Sonic, which was my previous "best suburban burger." And they have pretzel buns, which is epic win. I cannot wait to go back. My cardiologist would probably prefer that I didn't, but screw that...I won't be getting cholesterol checked for another 6 months, so until then, more burgers and fries for me!

If I am rating the restaurant, four stars. Its clean. They have that fancy pop machine. but my god. Their fried pickles. I LOVE them. They're so addicting. You can sub them in for a kids meal too, which is nice because I am a grilled cheese kinda girl. Best fried pickles ever.

My wife was all excited when she heard last year that a "Smashburger" was coming to Batavia. I heard never heard of it before and had no idea what it was ! It took us about a year before we finally tried it (thanks to a buy 1 get 1 coupon). I ordered a "Spicy Baja" burger with the regular fries. The fries are "shoestring cut" and hard for me to pick up, but they tasted OK. The burger was average. Think of any other specialty burger chain and it's about the same. If I am going to go out for a burger, the choice will remain Portillios.

I heard the hype. I had to decide for myself. I came, I ate, I was underwhelmed. What was great was the service. Right away when we walked in we were greeted. It was mid afternoon after the lunch rush so there was no line. The cashier explained all the different toppings and sizes. We ordered a baja burger, a smash burger with egg bacon and cheddar, smash fries, fried pickles, a strawberry shake, and a soda. $26 and some change. Pricey, but if it was good it wouldn't have mattered. The baja burger had a small medicine droppers worth of avocado, and very little flavor otherwise. The other burger had no flavor at all. The fried pickles were alright, salty, but it's fried pickles so.... The fries would have been great except for the overpowering rosemary taste. But they were crisp and hot otherwise, so next time I would get those. Oh, but the shake! It was heaven! I also saw that they have a green river float that I would like to try because I love the green river shake at scooby's. So for the quality of what we got, $26 was way too much. Cool decor, a good milkshake and great service just aren't enough to draw us back for a while.

I'd be giving this a 5-star except I think all varieties of the fries are on the weak side. The burgers, as mentioned in most reviews are hot, juicy, and extremely tasty! Whether it be egg, guac, bacon, mushroom or jalepenos, the base of every truly good burger must be in the meat. Toppings can only enhance a good burger but never carry the weight. I went here thinking I'd be disappointed, but happily I'm looking forward to another SmashBurger franchise coming to a neighborhood near me. Well done!

We've had a run of new burger joints hit the suburbs lately from Five Guy's to Meatheads to Tom and Eddie's and now Smashburger. I made sure to visit opening weekend and I was looking forward to it. At 6 pm on Saturday, the place was mobbed. The staff did a very efficient job helping people with their orders and guiding us to the limited number of seats. Credit to them. I picked the big burger with cheddar and a bunch of veggies (plus jalapenos!) on the classic egg bun. I liked the softness of the bun, it wasn't anything special, so maybe I should have gone with the pretzel ala Kuma's. But it comes down to the meat. And I really wasn't thrilled. It was very flat, obviously cooked on a flat top. I just prefer a thicker burger with the juice coming out of it. This burger was just flat and wide and that allowed the other toppings to take over the taste. Decent flavor, but honestly, it was just that, decent. My friend got the haystack fried onions as a side and we weren't too thrilled with those either. Most of them were just soggy. If you're going to serve onion rings, well, crispness is number one! The star was the sweet potato smashfries. Thin sweet potatoes are always good for me, but with the rosemary, garlic, and sea salt, they had that little extra pop that made them memorable. I just wish they gave us more! All in all, I thought it was an ok place, but I think there are better options if you just want a good burger. I will probably return to try one of their chicken sandwiches, and I will be sure to get those sweet potato fries.

I wasn't impressed and ended up getting sick from my burger because it was undercooked.

I liked SmashBurger quite a bit. For my first time, I got a Windy City burger with sweet potato fries, while my wife got a burger with bacon, cheese and ranch on a multigrain bun. (You know, to make it healthy.) I didn't get a chance to eat the heart attack on a plate, but my Windy City burger was excellent - no wimpy fast food burgers here. The meat was seasoned and the idea of turning a Chicago hot dog into a burger was a good one, especially with the high quality of mustard that was on the burger. (This comes from someone who just doesn't like mustard half the time, no less.) The sweet potato fries weren't just plain fries - they had garlic and herbs on it, including thyme and possibly basil. It wasn't too much, but I liked the additions a lot, and ensured that I would come back for more someday. SmashBurger might just be the best gourmet burger place in the western 'burbs right now.

Burgers are good, not very meaty though. Fries are like Steak 'n Shake, but just a little bit better, people working there were really nice and that's always a plus.

Didn't feel well after eating the overly greasy burger and seasoned fries. Looks good on paper but the meal did not sit well...... Never felt that way after eating at 5 Guys or Portillo's! I recommend the burger at one of those before I would go back here.

Of all the burger joints, this is my favorite (think..Meatheads, Smashburger, Tom & Eddie's or 5 Guys). They have pretzel bread, which pretty much had me at hello. They also have rosemary sweet potato fries, which are so good! There has never been a line, though you do have to wait a bit for the food as they cook it fresh, but they do bring it out to you. It's a good mix between fast food and sit down diner for burgers.

My hubby & I go here for lunch once every week or two to get our burger fix. I know he likes it here a lot but we go here mostly because I am a very picky burger person. AMAZING burgers!! I love a good thinner type of burger & this place gets it just right for me!! The Haagan Daaz shakes are very good!! We get chocolate. For a short time, they had a shake called Salty Caramel & it was one of two of the best shakes I have ever had (along with a place called Stripburger in Vegas which offers an amazing Butterscotch shake). There fries are very good! The onion straws are excellent when cooked just right like they are 90% of the time. There Caesar Salad is uniquely made with diced tomatoes- but is always fresh & delicous. Most of the time the staff is very friendly & attentive! We like the atmosphere too. TIP:Save your receipt & fill out the survey online for a free Smash Fries on your next visit

We stopped in here on my birthday June fifth because I was wanting a burger and fries and not fast food fare. We had celebrated my birthday over the weekend but you have to go out on your special day . Right? So I ordered the Windy City burger and Sweet potato fries and a order of fried pickles to share with my wife. The burger was delicious especially on that pretzel roll. The fries were very good and the pickles we amazing. I must say great job Smashburger you made my birthday dinner rememberable. We will definitely return soon to try some of the other choices or maybe do the build your own masterpiece!! We headed home and had the rest of my Bakers Square birthday pies and called it a Great birthday!

I was here for the first time about 2 weeks ago, and liked it well enough to come back with the kids about a week later. On both visits, I had the 1/2# Baja burger. It's a very good burger topped with chipotle mayo, guacomole, and 4 fresh jalapeno slices. The second time around I asked for extra jalapenos, and they brought me a small dish of them Also, on both visits, I had the onion straws. They were ok, but I don't think the oil was hot enough because they came out pretty greasy. They are served with a delicious spicy sauce though My son (late teen) had the chicago style hotdog (adults, not kids) and loved it as well. I was a bit pessimistic about getting a hotdog at a hamburger joint, but it worked for him. They have coke zero at the fountain, which is a plus for me, and 3 iced tea variants in clear spigoted containers. None of these tasted good at all. They do serve a few bottled beers as well... if you're so inclined. Although their burgers are pretty good, I wouldn't call them worth the $7 price tag. 1/2# Baja burger, onion straws, coke = ~$12.50 w/ tax.

I got the baja burger. I found it very greasy and the mayo dressing on it was wretched. The guy sitting next to me said "Dude, is your burger greasy?" So, yeah. Greaseburgers in the house. I didn't get any sides and I won't be back to try the chicken. Go elsewhere for your burger fix.

My cousin likes to call this place "Splash" Burger for good reason. Greasy, greasy, greasy! The seasoned fries were DISGUSTING! I had to ask for some unseasoned because they used way too much of a certain season. I forget which one, but it was terrible. The breaded chicken sandwich wasn't horrible. If I had just ordered that I probably wouldn't have anything to complain about except for the lack of seating. The reason it got a 2 star rating was because of the stomach ache I got from it.

Finally, a take out spot that offers a variety of chicken sandwiches with quality ingredients, Sadly, Smash Burger has some short comings which is why I have to go with 4 stars, . The look of the space is modern, bright, and inviting. Menu is great, divides burger and chicken choices with the option to build your own - score. There are an abundance of choices from toppings - to buns - to sauces and sides. I ordered up the avo club and the BBQ Bacon Burger with smash fries and sweet potato smash fries. The avo club came out w/o avo - no big deal, was fixed promptly. The chicken was thin, but seasoned well. I didn't hear any complaints on the burger. Sweet potato fries were flavorful with ample texture while the sad little smash fries did nothing but disappoint. This is a real issue for me - a burger and sandwich spot with dry, shriveled 'fries' soaking in oil and herbs. Rosemary, garlic and olive oil makes my taste buds water, what arrived on my table made me whimper. I'll hit Smash up again - and I'll keep hoping for a spud upgrade

Went for the first time last night. Ordered some burger with bacon, and bbq sauce. It tasted good at the time but 2 hours later I was violently ill looks like food poisoning. Not sure if it was the grease or something else in it. For such an expensive burger meal, was disappointed, won't be going back again.

smashburger. I've never actually wanted to smash my food before but I left this place utterly disappointed. we'll start with the appetizer; the Fried Pickles. SALTY!!! they are the burger sliced pickles (not spears) and the breading was quite bland. The Smashfries!!!! these were fairly different. they were soggy, and SWEET!! not how fries should be! Gross! The actual burger itself was pretty good! nice and juicy with fresh toppings. even with the burger tasting good, the fries and appetizers didn't impress. I won't be returning here.

I got to attend the Yelp Elite Event here the other week and although it was just as much about meeting some of my fellow Yelpers, this restaurant didn't disappoint as well. The food, well, what can I say, there are a few "custom" burger joints starting to open up but this one definitely is positioned and priced with staying power based on their selections alone. We were fortunate enough to try everything on the menu (except the dogs/sausages which, I bet if I had asked, I would have gotten one). My favorite starters were the onion straws (love that dipping sauce) and the smashfries which come with the rosemary, garlic, olive oil mix on them. It made an impression so much that when I was at the grocery store a few days later, I bought a rosemary/garlic seasoning mix which I will just add olive oil to later to put over my OWN fries when I make them at home or for parties. My favorite burgers were the Sin City (which they were making although not on the menu as it'll be their signature burger in Vegas) and the BBQ which, to my extreme pleasure, is made with Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce which, to me, is hands-down the best sauce in the world. The smashcobb salad was huge and was fantastic and of course I had to try a shake which was very good as well. I did try the Chicken sammies as well and I think the thing I liked the most was that the chicken was pounded out relatively thin (I realize this will be a negative to some) but to me it ensure quicker, more even cooking and makes it a bit more easy to eat. I'm just superglad that I live only about 4 miles from Smashburger, but of course my ever-increasing waistline isn't so glad. Can't wait to go back and bring the family (they have the standard kids menu too!!) OH, almost forgot, they serve BEER too!! which for most Quick-serve restaurants just doesn't happen. For those of us who are old enough to remember, they also have Green River in the bottle (soda). Two thumbs up as well as happy clapping arms above my head. Smart owners who are regionalizing all of their locations to reflect locally made products, very very smart!!

A nice, simple burger place. I gave it 5 stars, because the manager was out walking around, running tables, and everyone was super friendly.

Smashburger!!! Never heard of it, but it was a nice day and they had outdoor seating. So, we decided to try it. I ordered the burger with the red onions and avocado, I do not recall the name, but I'm salivating just thinking about it. I ordered the sweet potato fries. Now let me say this. Surprisingly, I am not a sweet potato fan, yes including sweet potato pie. I have had sweet potato fries before and was not impressed. I actually enjoyed the seasoned sweet potato fries. Side note/conversation: I love french fries. I have discovered that I eat less sweet potato fries than "white" potato fries. After eating a few sweet potato fries, the taste changes and I am no longer interested. Just wondered if others feel the same. My sister and I went to the Taste of Chicago last year and after a few bites of swt pot fries, I did not want anymore. Ok, back to my review. This establishment is a little pricey, but worth it. Your order is cooked to order and the burgers have a home cooked taste. You can select everything including what kind of bun. I have to fnd one closer to home. I didn't try the chicken sandwiches, but someone in my party loved it. Someone open one near me and I will be there once a week. Lol

Smashburger is just okay, which is probably a good thing considering how much I looove burgers. I went here on a Monday afternoon to get lunch and ordered the Spicy Baja Smashburger and a side of fried pickles. In addition to loving burgers, I also love ranch, and the ranch that accompanied the fried pickles was bomb. The fried pickles themselves were also pretty good, it's nice to see a place with innovative sides. My bf regrettably ordered the haystack onions after we learned they have no cheese fries, and the onions honestly didn't look too appealing. I'm not crazy about those thin, limp "onion straws", I can see their place on a burger but as far as a side, give me the plump deep fried tastiness of rings a la Portillos. My burger itself (Spicy Baja) was okay, it had chipotle mayo spread on it, which really didn't taste like much. There were also four jalapenos (fresh) and a small glob of guac on the burger along with the typical LTO. I wasn't thrilled by the flavor but it was pretty good. I'd probably return to try something else here but was by no means blown away. As one other reviewer said, there were crumbs on the few tables that I surveyed, which seems strange because the staff was attentive, clearing our table before we got up to leave and also checking in with us to ensure our experience was going well. I feel like they try here, but the friendliness is sort of contrived and awkward. This has no bearing on my overall review, just an observation. Overall, I think I wanted to like Smashburger more than I actually did. Their burgers are decent but I'd try something else if I am prompted to go here again. It didn't leave me crawling back for more, and for that, my arteries are thankful. I'd rate the quality of their burgers beneath joints like Meatheads and Portillos but I like the innovation behind their menu.

Its OK. Bit over priced because you have to buy everything separate. For the money rather go to Red Robin.

I enjoy their burgers and the garlic-rosemary fries. The burger was cooked well and even across the meat. Just not a fan of the Pepsi. Its a great sitdown and eat place, and they clean up. Enjoyed going with friends the last time there.

Wish I could give 3 1/2. I went to SmashBurger as part of a Yelp event, so I'm not going to comment on service, as it might have been a little skewed in our favor. The food is solid here, although the burger and chicken patties/breasts are thin. There are quite a few unique burgers with easy ways to customize to your own tastes (bbq, southwest-style, onions, etc...). Of particular highlight to me was the Sin City burger, piled high with sauce, onion straws, and an egg. The french fries are my favorite; thinly sliced, crispy, and covered with rosemary and garlic. The sweet potato fries were seasoned in the same way as their regular fries, and I didn't think that it was complementary to the sweet taste of the potato. I wouldn't order them again. The fried pickles had way too much salt in the batter, which is a shame, because I'm a huge fan of some fried pickles! Salads were large, but unremarkable. Easy to find, lots of parking!

The wife and I made it there about a month after they opened. It was still a zoo but quite honestly I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. The burgers are pricey they don't taste as good as portillos, in n' out, 5 guys or most others. The one redeeming factor is they have fried pickles which is rare to find this far North.
