Chapters Coffeehouse and Cafe

10 S. Batavia Ave.
Batavia, 60510
Reviews:
When any establishment on Yelp manages to get 10 5-star reviews in a row, it's worth stopping in just to see what on Earth can make that many people happy. Chapters is a coffee shop located INSIDE the Batavia Public Library. Yes, you read that correctly. BOOKS AND COFFEE AT THE SAME TIME IN ONE PLACE OMG! The Batavia Public Library itself is absolutely gorgeous (I could live in that periodicals room), and you don't have to worry about deciding which of the thousands of books to pick out without the assistance of your good friend caffeine. The selection of beverages here is awesome, and prices are very competitive with Starbucks. In fact, the selection blows Starbucks out of the water entirely. There are really delicious frappucino type things that can be made totally vegan, some of which include OREO COOKIES. (Yes, Oreos are vegan, you're welcome.) There are also sandwiches and cookies and snack type things for sale here. In that case, I can't say that the selection impresses me as there isn't really anything vegan, but I can live with that. Finally, the woman who always seems to be here when I come in, is really polite and friendly. She is always up for a chat and I enjoy talking with her.
It may seem I give out a lot of 5-star reviews, but I guess I like to review the places I like more than not. This is a stop I made on the way to a client in Batavia. The owner (I think) was extremely friendly and we talked a bit before we picked the right coffee. It's a small place in a small town and there's a library attached. This place has charming and quaint all about it. And a good cup of Joe.
So quaint. It makes me so unbelievably happy that there's a coffee shop in the Batavia Public Library. The library itself is amazing, having Chapters in it elevates it. It takes me back to when I would go to Borders, grab a coffee, and spend all day reading. Except they don't yell at me here for loitering. Also - get the brownie! Get several! But not if I'm there because I'm clearing them out.

Reviews:
We live in Batavia and love good breakfast places. Hadn't ever tried Batavia's Diner and the reviews were good so we gave it a try. On the way there I said to my wife I wish there was a good Mexican Breakfast place around the tri-cities. Little did I know that BD perfectly fit that description. I had the Chilaquiles. Comes with a thin steak, eggs and tortillas. Fantastic! So flavorful. The most expensive breakfast item at $8. My wife had the house skillet w/ pancakes (yes, I ate those) at $5. Also outstanding flavor and value. Service was great. Only improvement could be the coffee - which was OK but not special. We were quite full and took 1/3 of our breakfast home and it was $15. Can't wait to go back for another breakfast or try lunch.
A good solid diner. My wife and I stopped by at lunch time on a Sunday and both had club sandwiches. Good service and reasonable price.
The owners remember you and treat you like family. They have the fairest prices for breakfast I've ever seen. Great service great food great price. This place is the definition of 5 stars. A true staple in our town.

The people that work there are sooo nice! The food is awesome and everything is fresh! They put a nice spin on all there dishes. Every time I go its delish! It's also nice it's right off the Fox River. Really nice view.
What a great place to enjoy breakfast or lunch right next to the river! We got to try their famous French toast and omelette. Not only was the food amazing but the prices are very reasonable. Our total tab was only $20 for two people and we got two entrées coffee & soda. Our server was very friendly and very patient with us while we asked her questions about the establishment and food. It is a hard place to find and you could miss it if you drive by it so try this place out and you won't regret it and try to get a seat outside and enjoy the view of the river!
Family owned and simple breakfast that has exceed my expectations more often than not. They'll even create items off menu. You can never beat a place that puts so much care into their customers. The cost is an added bonus. I love their breakfast burritos and salsa.

Tusk Thai Cuisine

102 N River St
Batavia, 60510
Reviews:
I adore this little place. The lunch specials are just the right size and price, and the service is fast and efficient. The Basil Chicken is a repeatable offense. There are plenty of appetizer and dessert choices to round out your meal, but I don't always find this necessary. The main dishes pop with flavor and quality. The building and location are both unassuming, but please don't let this deter you. Here's a book that shouldn't be judged by its cover!
Almost perfect. My S.O. and I have an obsessive need to find the best Thai food, nearest Elgin. Since the passing of our beloved Akina's, our search has taken us from Crystal to Schamburg, Saint Charles, Algonquin and Batavia. Tusk does so many things well. Tusk is a BYOB restaurant. There is no corking fee/glass fee for bringing your own wine/beer. Most of the other tables here also had a bottle (or more) of wine on them. This is a really nice touch, and one of the reasons we chose to try it. Tusk is a very small restaurant, perhaps 20 tables for 2-3 people. So arrive early or expect to wait. Arriving at 6:30 on a Saturday, my party of 3 got the last table for about an hour or so. Next time, I will plan to arrive earlier, or much later. There is construction on the streets nearby, which creates some additional hassles. Also, the surrounding area is quite crowded with restaurants. Expect parking to be an issue. There is a very very small parking garage across the street. However there was only a single space available when we arrived at 6:30. The tight corners and narrow spaces may be intimidating for larger vehicles or hesitant drivers. **TIP: drop your passengers off, then locate a parking spot. This may get you in quite a bit earlier, as parking could be a 10-15 minute hunt. ****** For the main course dinners as follows: Panang Curry with chicken: My wife's favorite curry, and this one was delicious. Nicely balanced sweet/sour/spicy/salty flavors. Pad Thai with tofu: Well made, with noddles having a nice firm consistency, and fresh bean sprouts, and carrots. Larb Kai with ground chicken: Finally, a place that serves this. Ordered extra spicy and I was in heaven. For dessert we requested mango's and sticky rice. Unfortunately, they brought us papaya and sticky rice. Not quite the same thing. It wouldn't have been a big deal to tell us they didn't have ripe mangoes (which I would have greatly appreciated.) Instead we ended the otherwise delicious dinner on an off note. Also the only reason why the got 4 stars not 5. Ce' est la vie. Definitely want to go back and see if they can do better in the dessert area.
We have been eating at Tusk regularly since they opened. Nice people, good service, and excellent food. We are vegetarian and their vege sellections are excellent!

Daddio’s Diner

134 W Wilson St
Batavia, 60510
Reviews:
The BEST diner in the Tri-City area. Great food, good portions, and fast service. It's a small diner, but well worth the short wait. I have never had a bad breakfast here, and now it is our regular Sunday stop after church.
From the time this diner opened as Kathy's Riverwalk Diner and just about every Sunday for the next 11 years as it became Daddios Diner, we have loved every single brunch without exception. We have recently moved to another state and have yet to find the small town ambience of this cozy and super friendly diner with awesome service and hot-off-the-grill delicious meals. The crowd lining up for a table on Sunday mornings speaks to their popularity and the speedy and attentive service is well worth the wait. In fact, we have sometimes been served our meal less than five minutes after ordering. We sure do miss our friends and our breakfasts at Daddios!
Awesome breakfast place. Great pancakes, skillet dishes, etc. Nothing spectacularly different about their offerings, but everything is done extremely well. This place really packs 'em in so go early. They do have some tables outside on the sidewalk, also. Service is very efficient and friendly, also. Great place to take the family on the weekend.

Portillo’s Hot Dogs

Reviews:
Portillo's is the gold standard for what a fast food burger should be. While I guess it's on the pricey end for it's category ($5), it's well worth it. Most restaurant burgers don't compare to a classic, char-boiled cheeseburger. Portillo's tries to take care of its employees as well, so you tend to get better than expected service. That being said, if you go during rush periods, your food can be hit or miss. Sometimes they'll accidentally throw in something else or you'll be the one missing that side of fries. It happens a lot at this location, so just check your food before you leave.
Greasy fast food fix. Best fries and awesome chocolate cake!!! I love portillos consistent food throughout the many locations.
Consistent great quality. This why I'm a regular visitor. I also like the atmosphere. Even though it pretty crowded most of the time, they get our food up fairly quickly. Is it gourmet? No, but definitely a step above fast food.

I had high expectations for this restaurant based on the reviews. We took the family out for a Sunday brunch in the early afternoon. I would really rate this place 2.5 stars, but I will round up as the kids loved it. Atmosphere is ok, kind of a noisy, diner type place. We were seated right by the food prep area, which was a hotbed of activity. Lots of clinking coffee cups. Drinks were subpar. I love coffee, and expected a breakfast place would have excellent coffee. I was wrong. I put flavored creme in to give the coffee flavor, and I like my coffee black. Not a good start. On the other hand, water and coffee was refilled often, and without having to ask. Good job on this front. Food is average, or below average. I had a skillet on hash browns. On a lark, I asked for Louisiana hot sauce when the waitress asked if we wanted any special sauces. I was so happy with my decision. I tried the skillet plain, and was struck by it's bland flavor. It became tolerable with the sauce. Ham, green peppers, onions, cheese, eggs on hash browns should have flavor. I made mine taste spicy, it was better than nothing. Other entrees we had included a chicken cheesesteak sandwich, (poor), waffle fries,(good), steak fries, (gross), avocado/bacon omelette, (ok), and another skillet, (my son ate it, so I guess it was ok). The sides of pancakes were good, with nice whipped butter and syrup. I will not return here unless the kids demand it. The food is not special, and the coffee should be avoided. Our server was very good, however.
Great reviews on the breakfast! But, my report is on the lunch and dinner. It was your average, decent meal. Example, sandwich, side of fries. Yippee. Just like every place else. I've left feeling satisfied, but nothing more.
This is the best Greek style breakfast place in the Fox Valley area. If you were looking for a Walker Brother's, Lou Mitchell's, etc style breakfast this is it for the area. They have great take-out server and do a great job of packaging it all up. It can get busy on the weekends.

We have gone here a few times for lunch during work and every time we go I can't believe how much we get for the money. The lunch specials here are great. I had the Mongolian beef and it is always served hot. The portion size is more then generous and where else can you eat for these prices. The service seems to be pretty good also. They have always gotten our order right and are fast to bring out the food. One of the best spots in the area for lunch!!
Been coming here for close to 20 years to several different locations, mostly take out but have eaten in-house too. Always get good food and good service at decent prices. I can't ever recall a mistake being made with our orders - consistent! Will continue our long-term business.
This is one of the most unfriendly Chinese restaurants I have ever experienced. Good: 1. They will change anything up for you-if you do not want something in your order they can take it out, so that is appealing. 2. For a small strip mall restaurant the interiors are ok...I equate it to a fancier version of Denny's atmosphere. 3. Prices are reasonable. Bad: 1. The cashier/order taker is so unfriendly...she is a petite woman with a round face who is like a robot...same thing everytime...no hello just "what's your phone number" (that is how you pick up your order). She just has a nasty disposition. 2. There is no consistency in flavor I ordered something one time and it was perfect ordered it another time and it is was super salty ordered the same item another time and it tasted burnt. 3. Something that bothers me about sit down restaurants is when front desk people and delivery people are eating and, playing on phones etc...on the floor of the restaurant for everyone to see. Go in the back or don't do it. 4. My last issue I had recently I ordered Veggie Fried Rice and I had a huge pebble/rock whatever you want to call it and cracked/chipped 2 of my back teeth. When I spit it out at home it was large enough for the naked eye to see (when they were preparing it when the rice was still white before the soy and the veggies) and it was dark grey so how someone couldn't have noticed I am not sure. So on top of the Fried Rice I had a nice bill from the dentist. I have also had pieces of bone and other assorted items in my dishes as well in the past but kept all my pearlies in tact... After the cracked teeth incident I will not be going back...this last incident was a little to expensive for me to risk again. I want to eat food not rocks and pebbles and I want to keep my teeth for a few more years. Take your chances...and make sure you have dental insurance.
